After factoring in a few days worth of comments and emails, AB is back up. You guys really love the site…feel bad taking it away.

All I can say is no promises in terms of content…going to make threads when I feel like, which might not be often. They probably won't be very in-depth, either, since I am not following sports as much. So, if you guys are fine with this type of thread on a Monday, and a game thread on a Saturday, then we're good. If you expect more, I can't provide that right now. I don't want to be blamed if the site goes down hill–I tried to end it in our prime! You lunatics won't let me.

Anyway, apologies for all the drama. It's hard shutting down outsider art, apparently. Anyway, enough about me or the site. Talk about the Beavs here.

  1. You won’t be blamed if the site goes downhill! Considering your situation I think you have handled all of this very well and do appreciate this decision.

As others have said, this format allows us to see what other (mostly) serious fans are thinking and gives us all insights which we’d otherwise miss. Recruiting info, practice reports, etc all will continue to make this site valuable as long as everyone stays involved.

Your thoughts, angry, have always been informative and thought provoking, I hope you feel like being involved as your other challenges allow.

    And……..How ’bout that Darwin Barney!!

    • Barney is an amazing defensive player, but good lord his OBP was .299 this year. He better hope the “D” stays consistent because he’s a liability with the bat.

  2. i think people need a place to vent and be completely honest about beaver sports. glad the site is back even if angry isn’t necessarily going to create a lot of content. i know i would be content with discussion posts and the forum. so no pressure dude :)

  3. After spending the weekend at Arizona State on an official visit, Tatum Taylor isn’t sure he is going to find a better place to compete in two sports.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound athlete (Seattle/O’Dea) was able to get a sense for what his future would be like if he decided to play football and run track for the Sun Devils.

“It seems like it would be a great place,” he said. “I love the weather down there. They have a really good program set up, so you can succeed both on the field and off the field.”

I know we had coaches up there a few weeks ago. I think he has a visit scheduled

Taylor’s trip was his first official visit. He plans to take a few more.

“I still want to take my other officials, but that was a pretty good visit for me,” he said.

Freshman sprinter Trae Armstrong, an Arizona native, was Taylor’s host during the senior’s time in Tempe, Ariz. He had the opportunity to tour the university’s athletic facilities and get to know a pair of teams he could see himself competing for next year. He also caught Arizona State’s 45-43 loss to UCLA.

“It was a fun experience,” Taylor said. “They showed me around the city and it was a great game I got to see. It went down to the final seconds.”

Now that he is back in Seattle, Taylor is preparing for a strong finish to his senior season. The Irish open the postseason at 4 p.m. Saturday against Lakewood (Wash.) Lakes.

“We just wrapped up the end of the quarter and the football season is going really good — it’s going by fast,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting it. We’re already in the playoffs.”

  4. Good to have the site back up. Lets get back to some basics here! Hey angry? Why is Oregon so good while we seem to be mired in mediocrity? RIley is about to get run in the CW again!!

    • Shit man, give Angry a break. No need to discuss those eternal truths at this point. Let’s just see if Mediocrity Man can fumble through the next four games and somehow make the Civil War a relevant sports even again.

      • Good to see things picking up where they left off.

Glad the site’s back up. I was bummed thinking how I’d miss all the good Beav talk in here.

  5. Angry, do you know how close I was to making you an offer for the bolt? Did you get any serious offers?

But seriously, I do not know another blog/website/source to see any critical opinions that aren’t blown out of the water for being “negative” and against the “grain”. . .

It is OK to be critical. It is ok to question. t is ok to vent. Most beavers fans need to vent, even if they don;t want to admit it. Most just fall into a deep binge.

  6. So glad you are back up!! I was pissed I had to register for the forums as well. I wanted to create a new post named “how lame” Glad I don’t have to, I was thinking you should create an android and iPhone app. I would pay .99 for it!! I hate oregonlive and the GT. This is the best place to get news on the Beavs and has the best commentary and most posters are serious and spot on.

  7. Yea….thanks for reconsidering! I was at a loss all day yesterday, nothing to do. This site is often, no is, better than actually attending an event. Now let’s get back to the business of figuring out a way to blow the ASU game.

Jack must have been devastated. How would he spend an extra 3-4 hours per day? JB

O…..S…U. wave arms like a spaz, or until bored/embarrassed.

  8. I’m surprised that the first basketball action starts on Sunday and I haven’t seen an article about the team on any of the outlets. Anybody have any basketball news? Is this team going to be able to build on last year? My gut tells me that this team may be able to go even farther without Jared. He was a great player, but I felt that the team sometimes waited for him to do something every game and may be a better “team” without him even though he was such a great player.

  9. Damn, I’m glad AngryBeavs is back. I kept going back to the site yesterday, numbly, thinking to myself, “Now what am I going to read?” Checked the site again this morning and Bingo! We’re back!

I watched “It” last night and decided I much prefer the clowns on this site to that freaky scary ass Pennywise.

  10. portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/122301-collective-approach-pays-off%20in-health-for-beaver-football

Kind of ironic to read a piece in the Trib about lack of injuries when we have Poyer, Wheaton, and Woods all at less than 100% this week. Lots of back slapping in the article; but it is true that injuries were worse last time around.

      • True.
Instead of Wheaton I probably should have mentioned Mannion. Of course, Mannion’s quick healing may be a testament to the training staff; also, we haven’t heard anymore about Isaac having hip problems.

As for Wheaton, I sure hope no one on the team forgets that cheap shot when the Beavs face the Huskies next year.

        • My opinion for what it’s worth: I don’t think it was a cheap shot as much as a bang-bang play. Yes it definitely was a personal foul that the ref screwed the pooch on, but I don’t think the kid was head hunting. I think he was just trying to hit Markus hard enough that he wouldn’t hang onto the ball, which is what you’re supposed do as a DB. It’s not the same as the Meizel (sp?) hit on Quizz out of bounds, or the Venerable (sp?) hit on Quon in Boise which were dirty plays.

          • When I saw the position of the DB’s arms, as well as the head whip I was convinced he was head-hunting.
True, the out of bounds hit on Quizz will live in infamy and really highlighted Riley’s disconnect that season.

  11. ” I follow the Beaver’s from here in the Philippines. I think it was a mistake that Mannion played. He is still recovering from his injury and on the way to recovery. It is hard to play when you are worried about your injury, his being to careful and worried about re-injuring himself. You can’t blame him and give him so many time to play on the field but let him get used to it and don’t keep him in longer until he is ready. Vaz is playing so well. Let’s just stick tot hat. Maybe Mannion will be the starter again but not until he sis ready.”

  12. OT… did anyone else catch Spurrier’s comments about Alabama possibly being able to beat an NFL team?

How does he not get laughed off the planet for such a stupid idea?

      • They’re crazier than I thought if that’s true. I doubt anyone who knows about or loves football would even pretend to seriously think this. And they’re supposed to love their football in SEC country.

Bama against any NFL team on any given Sunday would be a bloodbath. I would put the over/under for Bama first downs at about 1.5… and I would take the under.

        • I would take the over only because I think there would be multiple PF penalties against the nfl team on defense, resulting in 1st downs for the sec team.
Decapitations however… 1.5 is about right.

          • Yeah according to SEC fans every redshirt freshman on every team is an NFL pro bowler. Vandy would go 12-0 in the PAC12 every year.

Although I did read a post by a duck fan a while ago and he referred to U of O as an “NFL pipeline”. That was pretty amusing.

  13. Glad you’re back on, Angry…been reading and randomly posting since near the beginning of AB.

Also…the forums aren’t too bad. Can’t believe they’re not used more!

  14. Thank You Angry for keeping the site. This is the best format out there in my opinion. I can make up any name I want. I can choose not to register. I really prefer this over all other sites on Beavs/ sports in general.

  15. Brandon Sprague on the radio today saying he really doesn’t think Poyer is gonna be ready to play in time for the ASU game. Sprained PCL sounds like the problem. Said he was limping pretty noticeably at practice today and hasn’t counted himself out yet, but he doesn’t pass the eyeball test as of today’s practice.

  16. With the exception of today, which was in the Truax Center, practices have been outside, with the offense and defense rotating inside to Truax and back out, back and forth.

Did Cliff mention that Jordan Poyer was out today, and had his right knee wrapped in ice while he watched practice in shorts and a T shirt? When he did walk, he was limping.

Storm is back, but wearing one of those quarterback type knee braces. It has to be limiting his mobility. Took the wife’s car today instead of my bike because of the rain. Got a parking ticket from the Pinto Pigs, even though I parked in the far recesses of the Reser lot, all alone…damnit.

    • Here’s another one:
?@GregBiggins Encino (Calif.) Crespi DB Brandon Arnold has moved up his official visit to #OregonState to this weekend due to a bye

Its a good crew or recruits, let’s hope the atmosphere is a game changer.

    • Thanks Angry. I realized I had an Angrybeavs addiction. Was just heading to the Angrymethadone clinic when i saw the site was back up. All good.

  17. I too really appreciate you keeping this active, Angry. It’s the only site to get unfiltered scoop. Thank you. Huge game this wknd. If we can beat asu and stanford I am confident we will finish top 14 and get a rose bowl nod. Should we make Pasadena I like our chances. It’d be huge for recruiting as well.

    • I agree that in that senario, we would deserve the reject rose bowl. But is this really what we are striving for?we just accept a loss to the uof o? Mediocrity at its best. Concentrate on this weekend. One week at a time. And don’t let anyone assume a civil war loss.

        • A great season no doubt. But not the season of my hopes and aspirations. A fan base should never hope for a loss to the rival at best. And yes, us getting the Rosebowl because the ducks didn’t take it, is not the Rosebowl of my dreams.

      • I understand the whole wanting to beat your rival thing, but the Ducks being our rival really has zero to do with the relative strength of the programs and our chances of beating them in any given year. The Ducks are without question one of the best teams in the Country, have been for the last few years, and will likely continue to be. Losing to them is really no different than losing to any other team in the top 5. This doesn’t signal mediocrity. The fact that they are our rival makes it sting more, but beyond that, is meaningless in terms of what emphasis we should place on the loss. It just sucks for the beavs that our rival happens to be really fucking good all the time.

  18. BDC: high praise for the Gill Village and the basketball practice facility – is on schedule. The Student Academic Performance Center has been a success. The new Gameday based on reviews has been a success.
There will be a rebrand scheduled for the Spring including new uniforms. “It will be a classic look that has been modernized.”
BASF also will be going through a name change and new promotion.

Riley: Woods and Wheaton look good. Poyer is looking better and better, but will have to look at him tomorrow. (will he be much better in 5 days if he doesn’t play). If he can play he will.

  19. Nothing to do with the Beavs, but the CFB junkies (like me) might find this interesting. This weekend
the CFB shows will talk about battle for the Little Brown Jug, the original trophy game. There is a great story behind it. Hope you enjoy.

  20. I’m out of the country and have missed the angrybeavs drama. Imagine my horror when I logged on and angrybeavs was down and my joy when the next time we’re all back! Thanks Angry.

    • Another PCL injury…I actually hope they Keep Poyer out of Saturday’s game against ASU. Yeah, it’d suck watching Martin get burned over and over…it would be worse if Poyer seriously injured that knee, was lost for the season, and compromised his potential NFL career.

This game is hard to read; both teams should be motivated after close losses. Both teams are compromised by injuries. OSU’s offense has not been productive at home. Its hard to predict how well Vaz will respond to ASU’s pressure, particularly if Sutton’s in the game…Woods doesn’t sound like he’s going to be a full strength, said strength seeming barely adequate to date…OSU seems to play to the level of its competition…Reser should be packed nearly full with students and drunk Dads…

“I guess that’s why they play the games…”

    • Easier now, harder in the future, right? Tedford’s stupidity in having Allen out there on special teams down 22 with a minute to play has got to seal his coaching fate, so Cal could end up with a better head coach as a result of all of this.

  21. If Poyer is out for the game, who is the punt returner? Last game is was going to be Wheat, but I doubt they would have him do that coming back from a concussion. Since we are living on the edge
every game, a special teams f-up could be bad. Poyer has been great with decisions and does not fumble. This is not a neat deal. Please god, don’t put Agnew back there.

  22. This Saturday I’ll be attending my first Beaver game at Reser Stadium in 4 years – my last game was the 2008 Civil War. I’ll be hoping for a slightly better outcome…although 38 points should be enough to win provided the opposition doesn’t hang 65. I’ve never been more stunned watching that dreaded game.

I also would have won about $1,200 on a long shot bet pre-season that the Beavers would go to the RB that year. Wish I had made a $10 bet on that outcome this year…still a long shot, but man would it have paid!

  23. Hey, I am a duck fan, but I always check this site out. Actually more than addicted to quack lol. If you want to add functionality to this site, let me know. I love wordpress, and design exclusively with this platform.
One way for everyone to get their favorite pictures, logos etc linked to their icon next to their name is to go to here..https://en.gravatar.com/ Then you can assign a picture or logo to your email, so when you post you can show off your flair, unlike the randomly generated gravatars that the plug in dishes out.

  24. Well, no. Just want you guys to move into the 21st century. LOL. And no, I actually have not changed that pic for over two years.
I was mad you guys lost too. So no duck hate here.

  25. thanks angry! i have a bad feeling that the best thing to happen to the beavers this week will be darwin barney’s gold glove, and nobody i’m friends with wants to talk to me about it. angrybeavs needs to stay though.

  26. Hey Jack, I just noticed for the first time that Olaf is actually in Corvallis this season. For some reason I thought he was coming over next year. Anyway, do you know if he’s expected to redshirt this year or is he going to play? Any idea if he’s even ready to play at all on this level? He looks to have good size but be a little slimmer than his older brother.
Looking forward to the season starting this weekend. I didn’t realize how close we were.

btw-i posted this on orange express but figured this site has more traffic right now and it might get missed at that site until the season officially gets rolling.

    • Hoopsters rarely redshirt just for the sake of redshirting. The best way to develop is to get time.

Olaf looks better than Roe at many things. His outside shot doesn’t need to touch his shoelaces before he releases it, so that’s good. He’s really a different type of player than Roe was. And yes, it might take him some time to get used to the American game.

  27. Last year’s starting offensive tackle for CCSF is now starting for a much improved Mississippi. This year’s starting tackles (they rotate 3 guys) for CCSF are all better. The guards are absolute nasty pile drivers. This year’s starting linebacker/end for CCSF was the #1 highschool linebacker in US a couple of years back. He bounced from Cal to Florida to jc Texas to CCSF. He may be a flake but is reported to be a good kid (also really big and very fast). He needs to stay relatively close to family now (Corvallis?). Are you listening Beaver scouts?

    • I have a feeling that Riley doesn’t want to mess with CCSF football players – many of them have, shall we say, interesting histories and I doubt he is willing to emerge from his contentedness to engage with players who might roll their eyes at neat family hype As an aside – I once posted some time ago that I took several courses at CCSF and found the instructors/teachers/professors to be top of the line. I find it upsetting to read of big donations to Stanford and Berkeley when I never seem to see any news of gifts to CCSF, and the students from there are at least as deserving.

      • These are just guys I have seen. There are many more at other Norcal jcs. Beavers seem content with second or third tier guys. The guy that went to Mississippi is from Rio Americano high in Sac, a very well to do neighborhood. His background is as good or better than any Beaver. The current left guard is also from Rio and he has the most massive body trunk that I may have ever seen. The American River middle linebacker that the Beavers are recruiting is fast. But the CCSF guards and running back pounded him pretty good to the tune of 220 yds, mostly up the middle. With all due respect, the current Beaver lb from Laney was an above average player on a very bad team. But he was perhaps the 4-6th best backer in the league, even if you figure in size and speed. Yes there are some bad character guys in JC. But it’s not like the PAC 12 is full of angels. Look how hard the Beavers went after Hasiak if you think character matters. They seem to be totally stuck on Mt SAC. By the way, there is a kicker at Butte who is as good as anyone in the PAC12 now. He could have qualified from high school but went to a small school and was overlooked. Big leg, accurate leg.

    • Biggest game of the year tommorrow. A win, and the team rights the ship and goes into Stanford game with some confidence. A loss and the rails could start coming off and could be a long November. Riley has a good record in the month of November. I could see the offense struggle against a good defense. This could be a defensive game that comes down to special teams. Low scoring. The crowd could be the difference in the outcome, will Riley be aggressive enough to get the crowd into the game early. I could see a cold wet weather conditions as an advamtage for the beavs. The defense may need to win this game for us. If I was putting money on it I would take asu. But I will be screaming for it not to happen.

      • As is so often the case this game is likely to come down to play in the trenches. For the D to perform without a healthy Poyer the front seven must bring pressure and at the same time control the run. I’ll be focusing on the play of Wynn and Crichton, will they rattle the QB and inspire the rest of the D, especially in the early going.

O line has faced some rough competition already but needs to open holes, not just pass protect. Beavs need to get going if they are to come near Riley’s goal of …..what was it?…1500yds? I believe Coach Cav intends to be on the sideline Saturday, hope this doesn’t leave Langs alone in the booth to relay “intelligence”.

And, kman, you’ve got it right……the biggest game of the year is always THE VERY NEXT ONE. I think this team has played that way this year except for last week.
Latest forecast is for a few showers and little wind.

Sticking my neck out here, I think these guys are pissed at how they played last week and will feed off the crowd. Beavs roll so long as coaching decisions don’t handcuff them. C’mon, Riley, don’t abandon the run so soon.

      • My guess is that their will be a lot of points scored. ASU has the ability to light it up and I see their offense as way more of a threat than their defense even with Sutton back. Vaz will need to be on his game- a Utah-esque performance isn’t going to get it done. Our defense loses a lot without Poyer (Martin is a liability). My feeling is that is will be much closer game than we would like.

I had read that statistics do prove that cold weather and rain have an effect on teams from warm sunny climates. The opposite is true too.

  28. Joe Avezzano once again appeals for caution on the part of those who expect an easy win tomorrow. There have been no decisive victories except one which featured some unBeaverlike lucky crap at the end. Don’t expect lucky crap.

Beavs have many challenges…QB mess and injuries. They come out flat, the blood’s in the water and it’s see ya later. ASU is not defined by the UO game…hear Joe now and believe him later, though Joe hopes he is wrong.

    • Interestingly, in seven weeks here in 2012 the Beavers have won the same amount of games you did during your entire head coaching career in Corvallis thus I understand you being gun shy in prediciting wins for the Beavers. I’m hoping you will be able to let your hair down a little with Nicholls State and maybe go out on a limb and put a W in the Beavs column?

      • Joe Avezzano does not boldly predict a win against any opponent. The home game against Long Beach State in 1980 serves as ample evidence of the wisdom of Joe’s views on this topic.

        • 1980? We’re really going back to before my days as a beaver supporter. Love the battling ex coaches on this site!
Can’t Google right now, did we really lose to long beach state here in corvallis?

          • I can’t say it enough….Joe is always right, and the world would be a vastly better place if more folks would heed Joe’s sage utterances.

          • I’m not sure accepting the head coaching job at Oregon State was a “right” decision for you, but I’ll give you a pass because of your astute prognosticating.

  29. Joe you got all wrong. First of all the beavs should have hired my son, Steve, but whatever.

What we should do is air it out, a full on air express and no running. Throw it 50 maybe 55 times.

And if we take too many sacks then go with the quick kick on 3rd.

    • And the current team is different from Kragthorpe’s Air Express how? Oh, yeah they run the fly sweep now and then. My name is Mike Riley and I’m going to throw 50 times against the worst rush defense in the P-12 even though the game is close and my starting QB is recovering from a knee injury!

    • Ralphie was an Allen prodigy… you know… like Dean Smith and Adolph Rupp were.

You’re probably thinking of Valenti? Is Hager thinking of you?

Or are you just a lonely Colorado fan?

    • Ralph is civil to Joe, but it’s obvious that Ralph is still all high-horse about the cheerleader stuff. What’s a guy to do?….a big time head football coach with a flowing mane and Adonis-like features is bound to see a barge load of trim thrown at him.

Naturally Joe’s hair is thinning now.

    • Ralph is dropping F-Bombs from grumpy-ass coaches heaven regarding the great defense played by Robinson’s last edition of “Orange Express”. Of course, he is doing this with a More Extra-Long in his right hand and a Dewar’s on the rocks in his left.

  30. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Dave Kragthorpe and Joe Avezzano that participate on this site are, in fact, inauthentic. Don’t be fooled by impostors. I am and will continue to be the original and only ex-coach on this site. JB

  31. I’ve not got a good feeling about this game. Poyer maybe out, or probably should be. ASU getting Sutton back, Vaz + Woods against a pressure D that likes TFLs….fast-tempo offense to defend.

I’m left thinking that we have to hope ASU plays worse rather than OSU will come out on fire.

    I hope I’m wrong.

    • You’re right about Poyer though. He is our best open field tackler, and we’ll need him against an offense like this. Hope he’s feeling well.

    • I hope you are wrong too. But lack of depth is really coming into play, as we all expected.

From all indications there isn’t much “probably” with regard to Poyer. IMO he should be out, but he is such a gamer and will be missed as an open field tackler, not a good situation.

Vaz does have more mobility than Mannion. Will we see a designed QB run….not likely, but the real question is will Riley lean too much on Storm. I’d like to see Agnew and even Ward get some carries since Storm is banged up. Also Tyler Anderson. Really don’t want to hear Riley again say he should have called more running plays after this one.

Still think a lot depends on the defensive unit, especially the front 4 or 7.

  32. I’m glad we have Vaz against this D. I wouldn’t classify him as a mobile quaterback, but he’s better than I’m-running-in-sand Mannion.

  33. OSU must have a balanced attack vs. Arizona St. You can tell when Langs is getting to call more of the plays when the run-pass percentages get out of whack. Riley has been consistently right around 49-51 and about 50-50 run-pass. Against Washington OSU was 35-65. No way was Riley calling that many passes. The Fiesta Bowl Beavers were 61% run. The stats are so obvious but Langs keeps falling back into his game losing tendancy to get pass happy. With OSU still in good position to try to earn a Rose Bowl invite, Riley must take full control back and make sure tonight we see a balanced attack. I think 46K screaming fans and Riley having an intern kick Langs in the nuts any time our percentage dips below 45% rush will get Oregon State a needed victory tonight and back in the Top 10 of the AP and BCS.

    Oregon St. vs Arizona St.

  34. I’m worried about this one too. Last week wasn’t the trap game, this one is. And the unseasonably warm and dry weather isn’t going to give us the night game edge I was hoping for.

    • I’m still worried, but the weather may help us. It’s slated to be raining all game and 58* degrees. Almost 20* degrees colder than in Tempe at night.

  35. LOL A battle of the Ghosts from coaching’s past, AND details on setting up an avatar….

Yes, folks, we are ready for ASU.

Well, my best wishes to Vaz. I hope Riley does the play calling, ….we dont drop passes, play solid D, get some run game going….etc, etc.

Come on, team, a win gets us back on the tracks.

    GO BEAVS!

  36. In SF for the game. Tons of Ducks strutting around in their ridiculous gear. There are so many combinations it’s difficult to sort out; yellow, green, sliver, black…just make up your mind already!

I’ve got a bad feeling about this one….something doesn’t feel right. Not going to predict a score. JB
