      • This article is just more of the same from the Portland media. One minute their slamming the fan base for being malaise or non-passionate willing to put up with the status quo. The next minute after the fan base says something they get squashed for being uneducated on the particulars and wanting too much from the program. All this article is meant for, is Canzano trying to get on Robinson’s good side.

You put pressure on the administration by giving money and attending games? That seems like the opposite to me.

Why doesn’t he just write a piece with some facts in it, and not an editorial piece with a motive?

      • This is true.

But a lot of angst has been spent about Coach Rob that was just bullshit from the beginning.

He has made the program a better one in his time. And he has done so like no other coach before him. The one knock is that he can’t do the x’s and o’s. That’s a major knock. But it doesn’t outweigh the good he’s done for OSU and the hoops program.

I wish I could say that he’s the man I support from here on out. But being Moses doesn’t get you to the promised land. I think he’s an administrator trying to be a coach. It just doesn’t work. But it doesn’t mean he should be drummed out.

Believe it or not, there is a right way and a wrong way to win and lose. While winning and losing are separate from the right and wrong, the ways exist. But the baseline for success is set in a certain way. And money makes that way possible.

So don’t ever discount the job Coach Rob has done. What he’s done is to rebuild a program that has been neglected since the 80’s. People lost faith in the program and focused on their own well-being instead. And when the group starts whining about winning and losing without contributing, they become a joke. Coach Rob has taken the joke away from our program. But he can’t make us more without that one stud recruit. And by those measures he has failed.

For his whole tenure, so many have just made the argument for him leaving a joke in itself. Those people know who they are. And those people are stupid beyond belief for the reasons they themselves chose to type into words before they pressed enter. Their 20/20 review of his win-loss record does not make them less stupid. Picking on the guy who took it upon himself to fix that which was shat upon for years before he took over is just a loser’s boredom.

But there does come a time when recovery stops and healing begins. And people are so loathe to credit that part of their lives if they’re just stupid beings.

I’ll go deep here. Remember when the tape of Mike Parker eating a napkin came out. I said he would one day thank the kids who made the tape. Most enablers wanted to lynch the kids and forget that they were the victims of Parker’s actions. Most enablers wanted to put Parker in their pity bucket and feel self-righteous about beating up on the victims and enabling Mike.

Let’s ask Mike now how he feels about those kids. First of all, I think he was grateful for their video. I think he was suffering before it, and he only found help after. But I think that’s because he was only hanging out with the same self-righteous crappers who wanted to continue enabling him afterward. Those kids saved his life. The self-righteous morons who wanted the kids’ heads on a platter were enablers.

And let’s face it. That napkin eating video was just plain funny.

Some of the best comedy ever was borne of the suffering of some of the most brilliant minds to walk the earth. Why should eating a napkin be any different?

I just don’t get some you all sometimes. You all whine about the right things. You all whine about the wrong things. You all whine about this and that.

But you all are not concise and consistent.

        Be that dammit!

  1. I disagree that the program is worse off or even the same than when he took it. Robinson has proved talent will come to Corvallis. The talent is here, the issue is coaching and expectations, both of which Robinson is to blame.

If you can recall, he was very much a reach hire. He had only had 2 years as a head coach in a small conference and did not make the NCAAs in either year. But he talked a big game and got everyone excited bringing in highly rated players. Then it bit him in the butt bad when he got out coached. It seems like he hasn’t grown as a coach.

I will say I think this year’s team vs any team of the last 14 years, the 2014 team would beat all of them.

If a new coach came in, they’d be coming into a decent situation. The cupboard won’t be bare like John left it. I also think that if Robinson left, they would not have to make a reach hire.

  2. Anyone else see the end of nc state/Syracuse??
Syracuse down 3 had about 8 chances, I think there were 3 air balls and a missed put back dunk? Looked like the keystone cops!

  3. 4-0 Beavers in the top of the 6th now. 2 runs have scored on throwing errors by the starting pitcher and another scored on a Keyes RBI single. Runners on the corners and still nobody out

  4. Good to see Hendrix running well as he steals second and scores the second Beav run on a throwing error on Keyes grounder to 2b.

  5. Camera work on the vid is pretty sad.
Keyes closed out the b4 making a nice play in the hole. Jim Wilson mentioned awhile back that deciding which grounders to the hole to take and which to leave to the second baseman was one of the more difficult things to learn as a first baseman. Looked like Keyes made the right decision on that one.

  6. Max Eng. comes on with 1 out, 1 on. It was time for Moore to sit, coming off sore arm and not overpowering at all; 95 pitches was plenty.

  7. t9, 1 out and Keyes given IBB to load the bases for Clark. Great chance for Clark to salvage a 0 for 4 day. Only gets sac fly to make it 8-0 good guys.

  8. Fry enters the b9 with two less pitches thrown than Moore had as he went into the b7 yesterday.

EDIT: Fry closes out a 3 hitter on just 89 pitches. Beavs sweep!

  9. Great start to the conference season, only saw bits and pieces. Starters dominated. Sounded like Schultz was solid as well. Seemed like we scored when we had too. Conforto and Keyes leading the way. How do the frosh look?

    • Ice has been a pleasant surprise behind the plate and today he picked up 3 hits. Jay Reese seemed impressed by what he saw from Logan in BP.

Hendrix missing several games with a hammy is cause for some concern, but he seems to be moving OK now. One for seven with a BB in the two games he played in Utah. Needs to get back to form at the plate right away. Fielding perfect, even made a catch which Max Gordon would have put on a highlight reel look routine.

    • And if somehow we could tie it into solar energy CR could lobby for a government backed loan that we could default on and it wouldn’t cost OSU a dime!

        • Obviously you don’t realize the geo-political ramifications of having the President’s BIL as head basketball coach. Besides it makes as much sense as BDC giving CR a contract extension.

          • You need to identify sarcasm before you post it, or I’ll just think you’re one of the brain dead who have always thought such things.

The humor about the geo-poli stuff is noted. But picking on bi-partisan solar subsidies is like blaming a gray hair for your stage four lung cancer.

          • Bush didn’t cut any checks to Solyndra. I’m sure he cut checks to other companies that buttered his bread, but they rejected Solyndra.

Half black guy didn’t write the policy but he sure as hell used it to shell taxpayer $$ out to folks that made the right contributions. Just like the scumbags that came before him and the scumbags before them.

Stop being coy. Just because you have a boner for the half black guy that’s in there now doesn’t mean he isn’t a piece of shit just like the rest of them.

          • Bush sure tried to get Solyndra their money though. And he tried to do it without any conditions, meaning we taxpayers wouldn’t even be getting the 20% back if he did manage to ram it through. I’m not letting Obama off for the way the DOE acted under his first couple months by getting it done without his admin controlling the process. And his admin certainly wasn’t forthcoming about how Bush’s remaining DOE cronies bamboozled him to get it passed. And if you think the Walton Family is an example of someone who made the right contributions, you’re beyond high.
            http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/aug/28/solyndra-investors-could-reap-tax-windfall/

I don’t care if you taint Obama for his incompetence in this one. But don’t forget this is Bush’s baby, and he was willing to just gift the money without conditions–something even the federal government wasn’t willing to do at the time. Both sides are culpable in this. And both sides remain culpable in loans more egregious than this–namely those to nuclear power suppliers. I wonder whose Congressional districts they are in. Don’t you?

My concern isn’t really with saving face with one side or the other. They’re both hypocrites playing with a political football when it serves their purpose. What I’m concerned with is the way energy interests have taken it upon themselves to first monopolize the football then punt it into the stands with a fake story. If you think Faux News drove this story into the ground, dug a hole then threw it in and lit it on fire because it was a bigger story than anything else out there, then I suppose you also think Mr. Truth is the second largest holder of Newscorp stock. What you seem to think is a big story is a spot on a gnat’s ass compared to the blue whale of energy industry giveaways. But you seem all up in arms about it, and even go so far as to try to improperly assign full blame to someone.

            Come on man!

          • Just because it’s bi-partisan doesn’t make it right. The whole problem with those in DC is that all they end up doing is buttering their own bread. I thought the way to stop it was to shut off the money flow to DC but it turns out the Fed has their back and they just print money to make up what they can’t collect from the taxpayers. It isn’t going to end well.

          • I think you’ve mixed a lot of different complex arguments into a couple sentences here. That doesn’t really work.

As it pertains to the concept of publicly backed loans for private expenditures, it’s quite a valid idea when regulated properly by an unbiased civil service. But good luck finding an unbiased and incorruptible civil service where energy, health, ag, finance and especially defense spending are concerned.

But do remember that bias is directly proportional to the amount of subsidy available for each sector. Oil, gas and coal make nuclear look infantile. Nuclear makes solar, wind and hydro look tiny.

And wtf is up with Wyoming all the time?
            http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/powder-river-basin-coal-leasing-prompts-ig-gao-reviews/2012/06/24/gJQA7xSR0V_story.html

Yes… Teapot Dome is in the Powder River Basin.

  10. Yea… what a relief!! The CBI…aka “the little dance.” The dream season continues!! Go Beavs!! Beat Ray-Ban…Radcliffe…Radisson…. who are they playing again? JB

  11. OT -Insomnia, plus strong rain and gusting winds that prevent sleep, have allowed me an opportunity to discover that at the Oregon Sports Awards:

Brandin Cooks was the Amateur Male Athlete of the Year; and
Ryan Nall the Prep Football Player of the Year.

Further bulletins as events, and lack of sleep, warrant….

(many of you probably already knew this. I did not.)

    • I believe it is a money loser, but an investment in BDC’s eyes for the “exposure” and additional player development time…

    • Are you asking does the OSU basketball program make money in a given year? The answer is yes. About $2.5 million per year.

The CBI is a net loser though.

      • Why would a “cash strapped” dept. agree to something they know they will lose money on?
Virtually no exposure and we have already seen how this staff develops players.

        • because like most of the moronic beaver faithful that are this close to pushing daisies, they just don’t get it. I loved the “get more exposure” quote I saw in the paper today. The game on Wednesday isn’t even going to be on TV. How’s that for fucking exposure!

    • We need to have attendance numbers of 1900 to 2300 (depending on the price point at which the tickets are purchased) in order to see black for home games. It would be an immediate loss if we had to travel.

      • Given the fact that most view this as a meaningless tourney and this year’s attendance proves the fan bases apathy why doesn’t BDC try and do something to make the game interesting like $10 seats and free popcorn? Hell if he salted the popcorn enough he could make it up in bottled water and soda sales. I might even pay $10 just to see if the P12 refs are really as bad as they look on TV.

        • They look worse on TV because we have replays and the ability to rewind plays on DVRs now. So there’s one pro for seeing it in person.

You forgot to add a lost and found.

    • how in the fuck do the 2nd place teams from the Pac-12 get a 7 and 9 seed? Stanford even had to settle for a 2 seed. Pac got no respect

    • Radford has an RPI of something like 243. I looked at who they beat and laughed. Not surprising. But we did lose to choppin state and depaul so anything is possible.

      • Funny thing… if we had beaten Coppin State we’d probably be in the NIT. That one game was the single biggest drag on our RPI all season long, scoring almost a zero out of a possible hundred for the one game value. Depaul was also bad, but not so much. The second worse loss was the home loss against UW. That was the only other game which had such low value that we might have leapt into NIT viability with the expected win.

Well… my expectations of 12 to 14 overall wins and four or five conference wins were exceeded this past season. That’s not really anything to get excited about, but at least they did a little more than they have in the past. This has been Coach Rob’s best season to date.

Sad to say, but it’s true. And it’s sad to say that because it could have been a whole lot better, but I thought it was going to be worse in the beginning.

        • Yep, if it wasn’t for that damn coppin state game, we would easily be in the NIT or the big dance this year. Because 17-14 is way better, way more worthy than 16-15. Roberto Nelson is so awesome I can’t believe he has never played in a meaningful game. Too bad because he has no shot at playing for anyone beyond this season. He will be a Corvallis insurance agent within 8 months. Collier is going to be living in a van off of hwy 99w. Angus will become a semi-professional wrestler, and Moreland will go on to achieve absolutely nothing in life. Way to go, BDC!!!!

        • Yeah, I’m not sure I get all of the CBI anger this year unless the overall mediocrity of the program has reached a tipping point. I was more annoyed with last year, I thought they were a lot better than 4 P-12 wins even with Brandt hurt.

I just think at some point by keeping CR on you’re condoning a culture of mediocrity on the court regardless of other good things he’s done for the program.

You talk about one or two wins. If they could have won any of those close league games and finished 10-8, CR is home free. I would like to see the Beavs go the Dennis Erickson football route and try to get a Bruce Pearl or some other semi-washed up big name to see if he can land one or two big recruits and just break the malaise for one season and get to the dance. Something, anything to create some energy.

          • The way the RPI (and BPI) works is by taking each game as a point scoring opportunity up to 100. The value of winning some of the league games we lost had less differentiation than that of winning either the Coppin State or UW games at home. Those losses scored so poorly that the Depaul loss scored 150% the points of the two of them combined.

We finished with an RPI between 93 and 103 depending on what rating you look at. RPI ratings can’t bother to update or actually delve into the methodologies they say they report. So the more technically correct and up to date the rating, the better we scored. And by technically correct, I mean the correct application of the correct algorithms purported by the RPI to represent their stated methodology. It’s well known the system is flawed, and the technical aspect has been pointed out by many. But I don’t think the people who run the system really care beyond the top 50. I think the NCAA rating had us at 100. And all RPIs had us a full 30 spots higher than our 2011-12 season at least, making it CR’s best yet. But it’s all moot now anyway. Scoring the amount we would have by either adding a UW or Coppin State win would have pushed us into the 70’s, around Utah at 19-11. So our SOS wasn’t all that terrible. We just lost two games where either of them being wins would have made the record look that much better. It starts to get crowded at that point. Winning both would have pushed us close to the 60’s or maybe into them. So it would be an additional 10 spot advance instead of the 20 spots for just one of them.

At this point, I’m actually warming up to the idea of someone like Bruce Pearl despite his being a hypocrite and a liar in the past. Maybe doing penance has straightened him out. I’d still go for someone like Pat Kelsey, Michael White, Scott Nagy or Eric Musselman first.

        • Not any OSU fan with half a brain for college hoops. Bone absolutely destroyed the PSU program in the name of winning games. And he was only a year away from not doing that anymore.

          • Bennett and others had none. If Bone was approached, I’m not sure why he would turn it down then go to Wazzu.

Then again, I’m not sure why we would be so desperate as to approach him in the first place. We were on the verge of major sanctions for our APG, and Bone had just done the same to PSU (and 20/20 hindsight shows us he did so to Wazzu as well). We might be talking about not even having a hoops team if we had hired Bone.

I don’t see Leon Rice getting the Wazzu job either. He may think of himself as better than that job right now and wait for better. Or his performance this year with the whole team returning might turn Moos off enough that he looks somewhere else.

I’d also look at an assistant (Mussellman), a successful established coach (Tinkle or Rahe), a successful youngster (Miller, Archie) and even a Moos retread (Kent).

          • I think Mike Montgomery laughed out loud when a reporter mentioned the OSU opening to him. A highlight of CR’s tenure was watching the looks on Monty and Jay John’s faces as the “Princeton” with Schaft playing like a man possessed dismantled Cal in the ’08 season, but that success was short-lived in subsequent years.

          • Bone got PSU to the tournament twice. Only problem was he had too many guys leave the program early through transfer or quitting the team to take jobs overseas before graduating. The hit the program took for these academic casualties is what got them banned from post season play down the road. The rules favor big schools like Kentucky much more than smaller schools like PSU.

            http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2010/06/canzano_portland_state_faces_n.html

Oregon State bans themselves from NCAA post season play by hiring shitty coaches. Honestly, I’d rather make the tournament from time to time and get hit with academic sanctions every few years instead of playing in the CBI year after year.

          • As cynical as it seems, I concur. I never could have imagined this, but in three or four more years the Beavs are at the 27 year mark for no NCAA’s thus equaling the football team futility record for no bowl games.

  12. RE: CBI Tournament” We need to have attendance in the range of 1900 – 2300 to see black.” Jack…3-17.

Congratulations Jack! It’s truly amazing that within hours of the tournament announcement you could calculate all the factors and come up with such an accurate forecast.

I need to pay my taxes on April 15th. As a favor would you please quickly pull a number out your butt that I should mail the IRS. Thanks JB

  13. RE: CBI Tournament” We need to have attendance in the range of 1900 – 2300 to see black.” Jack…3-17.

I prefer African American. Black is very offensive and hurtful.

    • Sitting at a bar once wit a friend of mine who is a black man, and he took offense to being called A-A. We were sitting across from a couple other friends. One was from Kenya. The other was from Ethiopia. They were both naturalized. He pointed to the two of them and said, “Those two over there are African Americans.”

He said it loud enough that everyone at the bar heard it. One of the men (the one from Kenya) looked up with surprise on his face. He raised his finger as if he were going to admonish the statement and say something. Then he paused, looked over at us and just nodded in agreement.

I guess he had never thought about it before… because he is a white man.

      • Armed with my newly expanded horizon, I brought this up with another friend who was from Egypt a couple days later.

I asked, “Would you be offended if I called you an African American?”

“Yes,” he said defiantly, “I would.”

Thinking I was clever, I pushed on. “Is that because you think the term refers only to blacks?”

“No,” he laughed. “It is because I’m a British subject.”

        DOH!

      • Old joke Jack circa 1985. There are lots of Kenyans, South Africans, Ethiopians, Zimbabweans (white) in USA called African Americans for the last 2-3 generations. Big deal. I knew a Chinese guy from Costa Rica that led a Salsa band in college here. He was/is a Chino Tico. I know lots of Chilenos of Middle Eastern heritage. They are all called Turcos. I also know that if you stand on the sidelines of a high school or college football game anywhere in the USA, you will hear the N word multiple times each game.

        • I didn’t know it was a joke. But then when you say it was originated I was still living in North Dakota where if you’re black you must be a great athlete and if you’re Hispanic you leave once the harvest ends.

          • Not saying that it did not happen to you. But I have heard that story, always includes a bar, at least 10 times since the 80’s. Must have been a big bar. How come the Injuns aren’t cut the same slack?

          • Because we were in Houston?

I get the cynicism. That’s something I can clearly read on any format.

You do know that you just outed yourself… do you not?

Not that it matters. You participate nil in the forums. And if you would even bother to read them you would be overwhelmed by the lack of your knowledge.

            But oh well….

          • I assure you it did happen in that way. I was a builder. The Kenyan was a Merrill Lynch advisor (a fucking rich fuck… but a good guy). The Ethiopian was a professor at a very well respected university. My friend who took exception originally is still an FBI agent… and still a good friend… I hope. And the Egyptian… sorry… Brit is a prof at the College of Leeds.

And we were hanging out in a dive.

            I love that last part.

      • Jack,

I think you intended to say, “with a friend”. You wrote, “wit a friend”. This makes no sense and I assume this may have been a spelling error. Please do not do that again. The readers of this website expect cerebral gods like us never to make spelling mistakes and to correct any that we come across.

        LP

  14. Is anyone else itching for Friday and some baseball?

I know ASU is down this year. But after the linked forum to their fans talking about how we were just a bunch of small slap-happy hitters with overrated pitching… and the fact that they can always be the bugaboo they always have been… I want complete and total domination this weekend.

Wetzler looks like he’s ready to be the Friday bulldog. Moore is proficient despite “elbow” issues. And Fry looks like he belongs in another league.

It seems like we can just wave our bats at the ball (or not) and drive runs in. Is it too early to be going on this kind of run? Or is it going to propel us to an easy league championship?

  15. I’d just like to point out that today is the 11th anniversary of the day George W. Bush decided to send many of my friends to their death in an unjustified (and, frankly, trumped up with ridiculous lies any stupid could see) war in Iraq.

To all who lost someone because of this vain war, I hope you can forgive idiot boy better than I can. I think it will take several generations for me to do so.

    • One of my sons is currently in Afghanistan, please go fuck yourself and keep your political shit up your ass.

      Many thanks.

      • You know what?

I don’t know you from Adam’s brother. And I don’t know that you deserve a good talk.

But you’re going to get one.

I have lost friends and family in the name of this country for more than 180 years. We have serviced… YES… SERVICED!!!!… this country generation upon generation. We have lost more blood than you can carry… in trips… to wherever… whatever that might mean.

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU STUPID MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU CAN TELL ME HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THE STUPID FUCKING WARS PROFITEERS LIKE BUSH COMMIT WHEN YOU FUCKING LOSE PEOPLE TO THE FUCKING CRIMES THEY COMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ON TOP OF THAT, YOU CAN FUCKING SERVE YOUR COUNTRY FOR THE SAME FUCKING GODDAMN PITTANCE THAT I WAS PAID FOR DOING THE SAME. AND YOU MIGHT AS WELL SHOOT EVERYONE WHO HAD A FAMILY IN THE MILITARY BECAUSE JUST ABOUT EVERY GODDAMN ONE OF THEM WAS ON FOOD STAMPS.

So they must be the dregs of whatever deity-inspired shit you think exists.

Get your shit together julius. If I had a deity, I would pray or whatever for your son to come home safely… even if his condition has nothing to do with the crimes committed by George W. Bush.

As it is, I have no deity. I just hope your kid is safe now and stays safe. I don’t think he should be in harm’s way, and I will continue to say so forever. If you think he should be so, that is your prerogative.

        • For any of you who thinks I make ups the food stamps thing about mililtary families…

          … go join up.

Then get back to me on the BigAg transfer payment your elected official will never remove despite your direct commands that he (It’s almost always a he) do so.

        • Wow, you really feel strongly about this subject. You must be ready to light the torches and burn down the white house over Barry half-white and Hillary standing around watching/going to sleep while our guys were being tortured and murdered in Benghazi.

Do you consider law enforcement to be “our guys” too? If so you must be incensed over Holder placing illegally purchased weapons in drug cartel hands and them being used to murder US law enforcement personnel.

          I know, I know…it’s Bush’s fault and I’m a racist.

      • I’m still fucking pissed about this.

I thought, julius, that you were at least a proponent of peace. I can’t imagine any of my children going into harm’s way for the folly of some politician. If they go for good, that’s another matter.

But the one major failure of the Obama admin was that they chose not to prosecute the Bush admin for war crimes.

Like they say… if the ref doesn’t call it….

        • Oh… and when I was in I never questioned the where or why. I just followed the COC.

I speak to kids in the military now, and they have so little respect for the COC it makes me fucking sick.

Without the COC, a soldier is just a shit sandwich waiting for a bullet.

          At least that’s what I’ve been told… somewhere… sometime.

          • If I would have had the balls at the time… and the stupidity… I would have maybe mentioned that a bullet was not the only way a soldier might die… in some future non-COC world.

            I didn’t do that.

        • FWIW, as a former Marine I fully agree with you that we should bring our kids home and stay the fuck out of other’s business. These wars are a transparent as hell money making scheme for corporations and their politician pets. We never should have lost a single life over there, and now all that have died will be in vain, as soon as we leave it will all go back to what it was if not worse.

  16. Biggest reason I didn’t want Oregon State playing in the CBI is I knew this effort would happen. The players have no interest in this game or tournament and neither do the fans.

  17. It’s now 38-24, Radford is 16-19 from the floor. There’s some weird shit going on. Cooke was basically playing rat ball and took five shots in a row on five possessions and it looks like CR sent him to the locker room during a timeout???

    • He just wants to get his stats and got yanked out of the game for doing so. The transition defense by the guards tonight has been pathetic to put it nicely

  18. Radford has 50 points with 4 minutes left in the half. This kind of reminds of the 99-48 debacle against Seattle University a few years back and it was without Seattle’s best player. Where does Robinson find these head cases or is Robinson the head case? I have really got to extract myself from Beaver basketball.

  19. Unfortunately, I watched the 1st half against Radford on the OSU stream channel on pac-12.com.

    SCREW YOU BOB DECARELESS!!!!!

    • The stream is better than nothing, but it’s annoying as hell. They show a stupid Beaver basket three or four times on highlight and then miss the live action. Maybe it’s some kind of requirement. Stop showing highlights when your getting your ass beat by Radford by double digits!

  20. Not sure how well known this is but the Tarver brothers (and many others on those teams) hated playing for CR. Wonder if that still the case with some of the players. Could explain many of the poor performances,

  21. Hooooly crap I just checked the score after forgetting until now we even played tonight, AND WE’RE LOSING?! If we lose this game Craig Robinson needs to just bow out gracefully and resign. We all know De Carolis will never fire him, but you’ve got to think Robinson would be humiliated even walking around Corvallis afterwards.

  22. The same shit gets tiring. Roberto could cut it to a one possession game and he misses a free throw. Moreland somehow misses a point blank layup. Cooke goes after the ball on a potential breakaway and somehow kicks or knees the ball to the only Radford defender in the way.

Oh, Roberto just missed another free throw. This shit must happen to other teams, right?

  23. Beavs are falling apart…got it down to 3 and now after a comedy of errors performed by the upperclassmen are down by 8 with three and a half minutes left.

  24. The attendence is said to be some 1300, so we not only gonna lose face, but money as well….

But I am sure its worth it, given the experience the guys get, playing mighty Ratferd…..oops, I mean Radford…. We are a shoo-in for the Pac 12 title next year….

  25. These guys can’t even foul right away, they somehow let Radford kill 7 second before fouling. I hope Gary Payton Jr. is a tough, smart player, they need it badly.

  26. After tonight, Oregon State will still have just 2 winning seasons since 1990. Quite an accomplishment to say Northwestern has had more success as a basketball program in last 2 decades than you

  27. What the f…? They have almost 8 seconds to try to get a decent look at a three to tie and Roberto throws up some ole matador shit from 30 feet away? I guess that just about sums it up.

  28. Beavs lose to Ratfuck 96-92. Lmfao. This abortion of a season is finally over. Praying robaminson leaves on his own or is fired. Good fucking riddance to anus and the matador. Two of the worst defenders to grace Ralph miller court

  29. The thing that really sucks is that we all know Robinson will be back next season. We just aren’t that lucky of a fan base to have him leave on his own.

    • Maybe his Bro in law will create a cabinet level Dept. of Basketball and appoint him to head it. He does seem to possess the necessary level of incompetence to head a federal agency.

      • As much as I dislike the current admin… I have great faith in our government. I just don’t understand the lack of faith in something which is us.

And there’s no getting around it in our country. Our government is we the people.

Rag on it all you want. I hear you ragging on yourself.

        • Think about this.

I’m counting on you doing so.

This is our country. We make the rules.

What and/or who disagrees with that sentiment?

          • We don’t make up shit. Corporate owned politicians write laws and policies that make money for corporations and protect them from liability should they get caught.

I bet you didn’t defend the government like this when Bush was in office did you?

          • Sure I did.

I spoke to the same “mistakes” I speak to now. Obama isn’t just as guilty as the war profiteers, financial give-aways and the lackeys who were in office at the time. But he certainly continues to enable them. And for that he continues to be guilty… and a lackey himself.

The words he spoke during his first campaign didn’t coincide with actions like selecting Larry Summers as his economic counselor. As a result, I knew I couldn’t trust his words, and he has never received my vote.

Continued corporate gifting like the ones mentioned above and the insurance gift in the form of healthcare make my original assessment of his proposed leadership pretty much awesome 20/20 hindsight.

It rather sucks that he has only been the lesser of two evils in his time. Especially in this newer world, the US needs more choices than one right of center Democratic Party and a mish-mash of further right Republicans who can’t control a whack-a-doodle extremist plurality within their own party.

          • And even after the party who hates government did its best to destroy it (while expanding it more than in any time in our history) and the current admin continues many of those same practices, I still have faith that our government will survive and succeed in the future. If I didn’t, I would move to another country like all the Republicans did after Obama was elected.

Oh… wait… they lied about that too?

I do have one question for you. I see election campaigns as a job interview. Obviously the words used mean something. But actions, as I’ve said, mean more to me.

At what point do you look at a candidate who tells you he despises the job and organization he wants to be elected to and stop thinking that s/he will do that job and organization justice?

For better or worse, our government is us. When someone tells me s/he despises me and my country, I tend to listen. Imagine that person is sitting in front of you interviewing to work for you in your personal business. Are you going to accept them telling you they hate your business, and they think everyone in it needs them to fix it with ideas that have historically been bad for your business… if that person even gets the chance to tell you those ideas?

  30. Too many times in Craig’s 6 years has OSU come out and given piss poor effort. It’s his job to get the team to play hard. Coppin State, Depaul, 2nd game against UW, Akron and tonight stand out as games where the team gave garbage effort. Seattle U in his 2nd season and numerous nonconference games. It can’t happen and reflects very poorly on the head coach. Inexcusable.

  31. On the plus side, for me, Cal Poly won, central coast represent!

    Oh, and, no more CBI.

Oh, and now we can forget this year in basketball and move on to a team and coach that ‘get it.’ Go Beavs, Go Casey, Go baseball.

  32. I think the players showed how little respect they themselves have for the coach……this will surely help speed his exit, whenever that happens. The school chunks out 35k$ for the lowly CBI and the team doesnt show up.

And the 1300 attendence……werent there 1000 free tickets to students? LOL

    • Sadly, those “1000 free tickets” are just a lie. They’re paid for by student fees.

But hey! If it was Nikegon it would be just a bunch of empty seats counted.

    • It may have changed but when I was a student the CBI had specific rules about entry into a game. Students weren’t allowed to enter if tipoff had occurred. Say your final didn’t end until after tipoff, you couldn’t attend. This specific event happened to me.

  33. Just speculation…did OSU throw the game so that they would not be responsible for hosting (and paying for) anymore games? The attendance was too low to make a profit, so it’s possible. There were way too many questionable actions in this game. I’ve never seen anything like it.

      • Did he say that again? That would be inappropriate for more than one game.

Let’s get after him for this. His win/loss and progress should be damned. We should attack the man with weird logic about shit we have no clue about what we’re talking about if we did know what we were talking about or maybe thought we knew what we were talking about… or some weird shit like tea-baggers think the world should work.

Go fuck yourselves now tea-baggers. At least that’s something productive.

Then again… the deity of the stupid tells stupid to procreate at an indecent rate.

Thankfully we have nobody here who thinks this way.

That should about cover it. Cowards won’t respond. Good luck to the rest.

          • That’s not a troll. That’s a fact.

Wait… I guess that is a troll. It’s so engrained in some of the ways I go about the interwebs that I forget to pull back sometimes.

I meant to not pull back there. Cowards will not respond. That does not mean some who do respond are not also cowards. That doesn’t mean that those who do respond and agree with me are not the same.

            Trolling is fun.

  34. Hey Speculation….”I’ve never seen anything like it”……you’ve never seen them play shitty defense before????? I think you need to watch a few more games!

  35. Hey mckalk, unfortunately 20+ years. Former season ticket holder. Saw Gary Payton play during my undergrad. This game tonight was just different.

    • Different like when they lost to Seattle by 50 points or Texas A&M directional by 25 or Texas Southern or Coppin State or wait Utah Valley State? Name you shitty lower level mid-major.

Although if I was a conspiracy theorist, to prove your speculation…..I would be suspicious of the Collier late scratch.

    • That’s great, but has Altman told the kid that he has four graduated senior transfers from around the country lined up to join the Quacks next season?

    • Meh….

Does this mean Young is leaving?

It better not mean A.J. Lapray is out. I love that kid… ummm… I mean he’s just a dumb duck.

Actually, I have always liked Lapray, and I think he will be a great college player. I can’t wait to find out how a school who is so adept at graduating players reacts next.

      Your turn Linus….

  36. I just scrolled up to see if anyone said whether or not we won or lost.

    Nary a word was said.

Sadly, the lack of continuous humor toward CBI hoops means to me that we lost.

    Whatever.

    • Whiskey soaked says, about 32 messages above, “WE LOST TO RATFUCK, 96-92……”

a travesty of undisciplined, badly coached, play.

      • Found it:
“Beavs lose to Ratfuck 96-92. Lmfao. This abortion of a season is finally over. Praying robaminson leaves on his own or is fired. Good fucking riddance to anus and the matador. Two of the worst defenders to grace Ralph miller court”

I disagree on that last part.

  37. Lets give Angry some credit……he says in the start of this thread that CR wont have a busy March, and the dood was right…..

Now CR has time to go watch Rueck coach the lady Beavs…..might learn something, lol.

    • Some of his Bro in Laws Chicago cronies will probably fix the poll so 75% will say he should be retained. “If you like your lousy coach, you can keep your lousy coach.”

      • It seems like one of the options on that poll should read “Yes-But his buyout is too expensive” rather than “No-his buyout is too expensive”. If you count those votes as a “YES”, then 80% of the people who have voted want him out

        • They better get on the stick……right now its 65% wanting firing. Add the 15 who agree but think its too expensive to fire him, and you have 80% thinking he shouldnt continue as coach.

  38. Oh… wow!
    https://twitter.com/ConnOregonian/status/446508318526148608

I don’t care if you do or don’t support Coach Rob. This is a majorly unprofessional way to act as a coach. If he doesn’t come out today and apologize for being unprofessional in the heat of the moment, this alone should get him fired.

As I sit here watching real coaches lead real teams in a tourney that matters… and I see a commercial for the University of Vapology?… wtf?… I have to think none of them will respond in such an unprofessional way no matter what happens to them and their teams today, tomorrow and in the future.

I was coming to terms with Coach Rob being here for at least one more year despite good reason to move on. But this kind of ting makes the immediacy of the situation more real. I think it’s bad enough that becoming an AD anywhere might be out the window as well. It’s just bunk.

    • What do you think of the thought (expressed by some readers of O-live) that CR is hoping to get fired so as to collect the buyout before moving on to an administrative slot at Princeton or elsewhere?

      • Honestly, with attitude like the finish on his presser I don’t care.

But it’s hard to imagine any university would think that sort of behavior is appropriate for their future admin.

  39. What an epic performance. By rough count Jack has put up over 40 posts in the last 23 hours. Does anyone else felel that both quantity and content some artificial substances might be involved? Sounds like the local “speed freak.” Will probably be sleeping for the nest 24 hours. JB

    • I felel like I had about four beers last night. But beer isn’t artificial.

      Is it?

This is my vacation time of the year Linus. This year’s tourney lines up with the kids’ spring break next week as well. If the weather agrees, this is going to be a fun week and a half. Right now it’s a bit chilly out here on the patio. But there’s a Duck fan here with me watching the games. He says hello, btw. He has a bloody mary, and I think it’s looking good right about now.

If you want to come over, I have the kegerator and tv set up on the patio. And we’ll be playing washers soon too. The smoker was lit last night, and the ribs, chops and chicken should be good to go for lunch. Oh… and I also have potato salad in the hotbox and salad fixins in the fridge if you’re so inclined.

  40. Cincy gets a technical for a player not being listed and trying to come in the game.

    Nice one coach.

Then the refs absolutely blow an obvious goaltend to benefit Cincy.

This does not look like a game that’s going to be called or played well.

  41. Check out this story about a guy who conned his way onto the court at the ACC title game and ended up in the huddle as well as the post game celebation for UVA.

    http://deadspin.com/uva-fan-bluffs-his-way-through-the-perfect-acc-title-ga-1547386713

Reminds of a friend of mine a few years ago who was tailgating with us hefore an OSU football gamr. He didnt have a ticket to the game. so naturally, he decided to jump in with the team as they headed into Reser and he ended up watching the first half from the sidelines. No press credentials. No team gear on. Just a guy in jeans and a coat standing there the entire half and nobody questioned him. And add to that, he’s a duck fan.

  42. Lot’s of Robinson stuff on twitter after last nights game. (looks like he’ll be up watching the women’s hoopys tourny like angry suggested)

    Connor Letourneau ?@ConnOregonian 43m

De Carolis is expected to meet with Robinson after he gets back from women’s hoops in Seattle. Not sure on a time quite yet.

    Connor Letourneau ?@ConnOregonian 23m

De Carolis will not speak about Robinson with media until after he has met with Robinson.

    Connor Letourneau ?@ConnOregonian 16m

Beavers would owe Robinson about $4 million if they bought out his contract now.

    Connor Letourneau ?@ConnOregonian 13m

The way the contract is written, OSU would owe him the total remainder of his contract. That’s where the $4 million comes from.

    http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2014/03/canzano_craig_robinsons_firing.html

    • Thanks for the link, WFO.
I notice Peko is still on the way and Joel Skotte still planning to participate (Fall Camp). Thought Skotte was gonna call it quits due to concussion symptoms.

Forgot the name of the fight club kid (from Texas?) who didn’t qualify and went to JC. Great story, and he seemed to have found a future home at OSU. Don’t think he is mentioned, could be mistaken.

    • Interesting that Jaswha James is a starting DE, good speed end, but not sure about his run defense. Did Gonzales leave the team?

Hopefully this young OL can run block.

I like that they are finally considering JJ at MLB… i’m a Mageo fan but he’s still going to be pretty raw.

      • James actually looked very good in the rotation late last year. He had a surprisingly good bull rush that took a lot of tackles by surprise as well. He was collapsing the pocket very well.

When it comes to run D… what can anyone say about it except that everyone was pretty lousy last year?

  43. Anyone out there follow wrestling?

Scott Sakaguchi is the only OSU wrestler left in the championship bracket, pinning the #3 seed yesterday to get there. The 149 class is now wide open.

I think he’s about to go on ESPNU in a couple minutes to try to make it to the semis.

  44. Yes. Gophs are always in the mix for the national title. They beat all the other contenders in dual meets this year, but the format favors PSU.

    • I don’t get tourney scoring like this. I know it’s weighted for the later rounds. But shouldn’t this just be like T&F and wait until the final standings? Then we just count up points according to how well each school did in the end?

This isn’t a dual or a quad… or even an invitational. So they shouldn’t try to score it as such.

      • The match between Storley(MN) vs Kokesh(Neb) was awesome. Storley wins in four OT’s in literally the last second after fighting off several near scores by Kokesh.

  45. Looks like the CGI scripts over at PO took a final shit. With no critical posts to delete, what’s Lucky going to do all day?

  46. Re: Eggers article.

Is it time for Robinson to move on? Maybe. I’m not on the fire him bandwagon yet. As I said before, he wouldn’t be leaving the program in shambles if he left. Previous coaches have run the program into the ground before a change had to be made. Despite not making the postseason, the players have not quit on him. When players quit, that’s a sure sign that a coach needs to go. Very few players have transferred out under his tenure. Only Murphy and Starks come to mind as significant transfers. And their absence has not hurt the team.

So I don’t think BDC will fire him. More due to the cost of firing him is too much for the athletic dept. Many fans want him to go because Robinson made them care about bball again and didn’t come through.

    • That’s a fair analysis. But I still think behavior needs to be considered. It was one lapse, and it can be forgiven. But it was a quick glimpse through a window that hasn’t been opened yet.

Murphy wasn’t technically a transfer. He graduated in three years with almost a 4.00. While he did continue his hoops career, he most decidedly moved on to further his education and a career beyond sport.
