  1. Wondered how the intensity would be playing a game against a clearly inferior Grambling State team but they’re playing flawless offense and playing good defense. Nice to see them come out focused from the opening tip.

  2. All I really want to see the rest of this game is the freshman get a lot of time. Need them to get as much experience as possible before Pac-12 play.

  3. 46-22 at the half. Starting lineup played great, freshman still have a lot of work to do. Jarmal Reid’s defense has been really good this season, his offense needs to catch up though. Non conference season will be good for the freshman, think we’ll see a lot of growth from them. Team will be much better off because of it.

  4. I turned it off. Grambling is HORRIBLE. They better win this game by 40. That’s what good teams do. It’s called not playing down to the level of competition.

  5. Beavers win 85-54. Starks, Nelson and Moreland were really good. When they combine for 57 points, OSU is gonna be tough to beat. Freshmen struggled, but they’ll improve. Beavers dominated from start to finish which is what they were supposed to do.

  6. 3 football players in jail

    From the GT

Rudolf Fifita, 26, a senior defensive end; Mana Rosa, 21, a junior defensive tackle and Dyllon Kalana Mafi, 20, all were arrested and booked into jail on felony charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct, police said. Mafi also was charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol and “misrepresenting age by a minor,” for using someone else’s ID to buy alcohol.

      • I totally agree. I can’t believe they can’t keep their shit together. Riley has to toss their asses. This kind of shit is a distraction that WILL be noted during the Alamo Bowl. Riley cannot be a pussy about this.

          • You think only kids get into bar fights?

I dont see any details on what started it. Might have been a racial slur that couldnt be ignored. Fight outside a bar…..shit, in many towns that would even be jail time.

          • i think only dumbasses get into bar fights. i’m sure that they were provoked, but that’s not an excuse when you have as much to lose as they do. and to me that goes double when you’re closer to thrity than twenty. get some perspective or go get a job.

          • Felony assault huh. Maybe this is a case of them charging the highest offense they can then plea bargain down and make it stick.
I guess Riley has to listen to the player’s story and decide from there.
Mafi, the 20 year old’s offence is the most troubling to me out of the 3 because he, with forethought, used a fake id to get into a bar, AND STILL couldn’t stay out of trouble. That just has stupid written all over it.
If this is their first offence, I say none go to Texas but that’s it. When they had that house party last year I think they all got one game suspensions didn’t they? Although this is a little more severe IMO so maybe Riley comes down harder. Can’t really do much more to Senior Fifita though.
            Embarrassing.

  7. Arizona looks like the best team in the Pac-12 so far. UCLA is young, and UW is really down this year. Hussies lose at home today. Again. That’s 3 home losses in the non conference. If we are gonna break into the upper half of the conference standings it better be this year.

    • UW’s losses are just horrible for the conference as a whole. And what sucks is that they’ll probably pull it together enough to make a little noise in league play. And that will make the rest of the country laugh at the Pac.

Zona made a good run in the second half against Clemson. But Clemson is not an offensive team. And they’re not deep enough to play the defensive game they were playing all game long. Still, Zona did what they were supposed to do.

UCLA is really really bad and getting worse. They only have eight ship players left on their roster. And they may be caught up in some NCAA investigative stuff soon.

  8. I only watched the first six or seven minutes of the second half. I figured it wouldn’t even be a game worth watching.

And I’m typical of many hoops fans around the country who want good games over schedule padding if I’m going to buy tickets. OSU is past these games. They’re not thrillers anymore, which is good and bad. I want better now.

It looks like we’re only going to lose non-con games to teams with a Releford brother playing on them. I guess I’m ok with that, but I want our backcourt to be tested more before league play.

I liked that Berto was handling the ball and Starks was off the elbows. Their play really looked good. And the inside out game was really crisp, getting those two a lot of clean looks. If they’ve finally turned it on, then we could have a pretty fun year.

  9. I watched some of the Utah/BYU and damn if the Utes aren’t improved. Boatload of transfers and a 7 footer from Canada. I don’t know if it’s enough to beat the Beaver, but they are not going to be a sure W at home this year.

  10. I know Gdub posted this on the other thread. But this post is shorter to navigate, and it’s not being used.
    http://blog.newsok.com/osu/2012/12/11/oklahoma-state-football-qb-luke-del-rio-decommits-from-the-cowboys/

I thought he already visited Bama. Maybe it was just an unofficial. His sister goes to school there, and it’s not like his parents can’t afford to unofficial every school in the country.

But… one of those unofficials is going to be an unplanned visit to Corvallis today?

I guess it’s just wait and see.

    • I went to HS with a Houston Oiler LB so I started really watching each Oiler game to see him play. But my friend rarely got playing time except on special teams because Jack was so dominant and never got hurt. Jack was an amazing player and I’ve liked him ever since.

    • Playing CU the next couple of seasons probably doesn’t hurt us as he could be playing in front of his family. I think we have a really good chance here, although there is work to be done. Having the pac12 network also helps, because they could watch him play every week.

    • If he goes to Alabama, does he play? My question is, is Luke the caliber of QB they expect on a team that’s won multiple national championships in the past few years? Seems like he’d have a pretty good shot at getting the starting job here by his soph year, if he redshirts, assuming Mannion is still starting the next 2 years. Maybe Luke is good enough now to take over starting duties as a true frosh, but doubt we’ll see that happen.

  11. I could see Vaz starting as a Senior, and then open competition with Mannion the next season. Also, as witnessed this year, “one play away” from being the “next man up”. Need to have two QB’s who can win in this league.

But let’s close on this guy first.

  12. Luke Del Rio ?@Ldelrio12

Had a great visit to Oregon State, visiting with Coach Langs and Coach Riley @Coach_Riley, have to keep gathering info #GoBeavs #blessed

      • They also explained to me that there is no need to worry about throwing into double coverage and looking off the safety until my junior year as it always takes Riley quarterbacks a couple of years to “develop” (even though it seems like other schools have freshmen and sophomores that seem to do well???) It will be cool to be under low expectations at first while I’m “learning” the position.

        • Please list all said sophomores and their career tracks.

Note: i do understand that being a NCAA coach and guaranteeing a career track in the NFL are exclusionary items. But many people do not take the time to evn pretend there is even a correlation.

          Still… give me some names.

  13. JACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

…where in hell is that good bb analysis over on yer GRANGE EXPRESS site????

What, things goin too well?? Not driven to seclusion and to your lonely essays on osu bb??

    Damn!

    • “Excellent”

Not to be Debby Downer, but who will be the current verbal who bails on us prior to signing day?
It always happens. We should start a prediction thread.

      • Poyer’s honors have to be a major positive for recruiting db’s. If we can hold on to all these guys we may actually have some depth at CB. That would be nice for once.

        • Time to start getting the big boys. A serious lack of OL/DL will lead to thin depth and it obviously showed what a decent Oline can do for a team.

Was it last year or the year before that the spring game couldn’t be held due to the lack of Olinemen?

          • That was this year.

We only lose 1 scholarship offensive lineman this year and 4 next year. Then 2 after that.

We brought in 7 in the last class, so we don’t need another huge class. We lead for Kearsley, which will make 3 in this class. That’s plenty. We’ll be in line for 2-4 more each of the next two years.

Considering our needs at CB and DT, it’d be a bad move to take more than 3 OL in this class.

      • Could be Nelson if he gets a USC offer. That has about a 1% chance of happening though.

Unfortunately, kids have dream offers and while Riley is good at identifying talent, other schools are better at swooping in and stealing guys at the last second.

If we manage to kick Coach Read to the curb, I hope we really target an Alec-Baldwin-in-Glengarry-Glen-Ross style closer for our recruiting efforts. I think it’d make a big difference.

All that said, I think we already lost the huy who was most at risk for decommitting. At least he did it early.

    • I saw him reference Perry as a big reason why he switched to us over Georgia. Ive also seen Moore and Hunt talk about Perry as a big selling point. If we could land even one of those two in addition to Nelson I guess that would answer the question about Perry’s ability to attract recruits.

  14. Want a good laugh. Wisconsin board is going over the pros and cons of hiring our own Mike Riley!
Yup, turned down Bama, USC. and UCLA over the years so I’m sure he will jump at an offer. Looks like the wuppin left a positive impression.
