VanderVeen, Mamma Machado Day 3, Riley, etc. Just go through them all.

Looks like they’re trying to have Bolden replace Cooks. Haven’t heard anything great about Hunter Jarmon (this guy says he’s not elite). Depressing. Bolden is okay, but he lacks body control/has crazy legs. Depressing Larry Scott is beating out Hunt, too. Malcolm Marable in the dime package? No. This guy cannot see the field. Period.

Riley looks tired/old — hard to envision this guy innovating or doing anything great at this point.

Also, Ryan Nall getting looks at RB.

  1. Hunt has been held out the last couple practices with a hamstring, so marable has been filling in. Brennen said yesterday that bolden has been the best receiver in camp. Hunter is in the mix getting a lot of reps at multiple receiver positions. Nall is basically at a different position each day and heard they might give him a look at linebacker.

    • Nall will be good anywhere he plays, but the need is LB. It would be nice if he could play both side. Some goal line RB and then LB.

Bone, you have been to practice? Does Bolden still have crazy legs/no body control? He seemed to have some major coordination and field vision issues last year.

    • Sounds like Hamlett hasn’t received his x-ray results yet and was seen limping around the sidelines at practice today. Nall may need to stay at TE if Hamlett’s injury is going to keep him any significant time.

    • I would also be really shocked if Marable saw the field at corner. He was only on the field because Hunt and Scott were held out practice. I see the nickel package being Nelson/Scott/Hunt and dime package being those three plus another safety, not Marable.

I’ve only been to Mondays and Wednesday practices, I can hopefully make it more. As far as Bolden goes, it is obvious that he is no Brandin Cooks, but I never saw him as a Cooks type of player. To me he is more young James Rodger, D’anthony Thomas type player where he isn’t the polished receiver, but is still dangerous with the ball in his hands.

      • His vision was so poor last year. He had a few big kick returns, but on every other one he ran directly into his guys or the pile of opposing guys. He also had a strange gait/running style, as if he lacked coordination or body control. The only time he looked good was in the open field once he got going. It sounds like you and Mamma Machado are saying he’s improved. I hope so. He has some ability and explosion but it’s worthless without vision and coordination.

  2. Sorry, I had to delete all those youtubes, even though I like some of that stuff. They were clogging up the thread, and there’s actually stuff here I’d like to read.

  4. Great practice today. I only made the last hour but it was some good offense/defense scrimmage. (No live tackling, upper body armor only) The defense looked stout, the offense not so much. To be expected this early. What wasn’t expected nor made anyone real happy was how often the D line blew by the O line and repeatedly “sacked’ our QB’s. ( you know what I mean, they run in and tap the QB and drift off while they complete the play) It was a constant.

Chris Brown ran well today. Somebody mentioned Bolden looking like James, it was true today, they had him running the fly sweep. Up close, you can really see how fast he is. The one successful offensive play run was a fly sweep to Bolden that went for a beautiful 80 yards. I didn’t notice any of the crazy legs stuff either, it looked more like his end of game Civil War run last year.

Lot’s of enthusiasm today from the players, especially the defense. Lots of shouting and cheering after every play. The D dominated. It was a fun day to be in Corvallis.

    • There will be just enough “we look good!” moments during games to keep the fan base appeased (blind) to how bad he is.Or Mannion will throw for 6,000 yards and that will be good enough for 90% of fans. “We have a record setting QB” yada yada. Fans are not bright. If fans were bright Riley couldn’t get away with what he does.
