  1. hey, Angry: a few more gems for Husker overreaction on The Zone: team is inconsistent as hell. the team psyche is “soft as a bag of cookies.” Toughness is hard to come by and this team feels there’s no price to be paid for non-performance. team has personality of the head coach. sometimes players need to see anger from a coach, not expressions of disappointment.

  2. More Husker Overreaction: “Riley: Bill Callahan 2.0” A new coach can make a difference at a “legacy program” in a slump, citing Harbaugh at Michigan, Saban at Alabama, Meyer at Ohio State. Call for Trev Albers as new AD. Riley: “an old man who doesn’t have the rah-rah.” Host Calls for Eichorst to tell Riley to make more changes. Riley has run out of “life lines.” Eichorst quote: “this is not acceptable.” “Today’s performance was not good enough” “coaches have to do better.”

    • Seems like despite the extension that Riley’s seat is quite hot. Next two games are vs. Rutgers and Illinois who are terrible so I bet he’ll win these next two and get some of the people to settle down.

  3. It looks like a blow out on paper……

What I’m looking for is a shred of a pass rush, Morris to spark the D and Collins to spark the O.

AND a team that doesn’t fall apart after halftime……lets show some dam fight today Beavs!!

  4. can’t explain why it feels like a win but guessing the beavs pull out a close one…or maybe the win comes in the form of a firing after getting ~20min TOP this game.

    • Probably because they’re in every game at the half so you think if they just put together a full game they can win. That’s how I’ve felt. Yet until they do it it’s hard to pick them at this point. Anyone can win any game in NCAA football so we’ll find out in a few minutes.

  5. Huskers still ripping on Riley, staff’s, and players’ lack of passion and fire. One refers to a shot of Riley during the game:

“You want your guys to play tough, and you’re putting chapstick on your lips?!”

    #TPB :)

  6. Riley pulled another early season vanilla soft ice cream performance against Northern Illinois and right on the heels of a contract extensions. I think he’s now 15-12 in his 3rd year at Nebraska…

    • Anderson too if after the first 3 weeks of this dipshit can’t figure out that this team should run the ball 45 -50 times a game he should be fired. And clearly Anderson has not told him anything about running the ball more if the first drive sees us chuck up 2 then scheme a wack ass QB run

      Mcpassin stinks.

  7. Yeah, bring Garrettson in, because they D doesn’t know he’s going to run.

Two passes and a tipped off QB run. Great play calling to start.

  8. Game Over. See GA and staff have FAILED to tell the players not to run out of the endzone still. Cost us 5 yards but almost cost us 10 as AP was lucky to break first tackle. This is just more of the same issues not getting cleaned up. If they won’t take care of the easiest ones to fix why should anyone think McGivInt, Clune or GA will adjust what they are doing? Will just be more of the same broken record today. Expect over 53% passing today as usual. Keep on losing with the same formula. Staff can’t even come close to executing their gameplan per the stated objective of 60/40 run pass. Pretty sad and the excuses are beyond tired if they are unwilling to do anything besides the same failed tactics.

  9. McMaryion would be nice. Yeah he isn’t great, and we wouldn’t be great, but we’d be 2-1 and have a respectable QB back there.

Luton in getting into mandatory sit territory. Once again his awful Quarterbacking has setup the D to defend a short field.

  10. Getting STG back is actually a problem. He is going to be thrown to a few extra times just to get him involved. This is how the offensive minds think. He needs to be involved as does Villy and the shiny toy Hodgins. So the whole offense is now designed to keep the WRs happy but not designed to play to the strength of the team, running.

I expect GA to make comments about how great Falk has been since high school and he is just too good to expect to stop him. Defense hads the built in excuse and offense has its excuse for needing to keep everybody involved, getting Luton in a rythym blah blah, If we had more plays Nall would get the ball more. Meaning 1 out of every 10 plays.

  11. Well there’s the first of many TD’s today. pourous secondary on a short field, not a good mix. This is an embarrassing product for year three of a rebuild. Horrendous.

    • Receiver had 3 steps on our guy.

Against fall you’ve also got to capitalize on the INTs when you have one in your hands! It was a tough catch to make but if you’re going to have a chance you got to come up with a couple of those.

  12. GA is out-thinking himself, instead of being an aggressive running team. Why in the world don’t they keep running inside with Nall? It is like they only think it can work a few times per game and they used up the good runs already, better try something else.

    Why punt at the 30?

  13. Don’t like not going for a field goal at 30 yard line. We gained 20 yards by punting but had atleast a 50% chance for 3 points. WSU taking over at 30 isn’t that bad. Seems like a waste of some nice effort by Nall.

  14. I get that you got a safety last time you punted, but I still don’t get why you don’t try to kick a field goal there. What does that say about your confidence in your kicker?

    • To be fair, the D has had to defend short fields all year, so maybe he was thinking they excelled in defending the long field. Beavs haven’t played field position all year. Still, stupid. Kick it.

  15. Team looks better overall, right? I mean that’s what I see.

Morris is helping out, I think. Moore was a liability. Makes you wonder why the staff didn’t have the right players on the field. Hm.

Morris missing that easy INT is like a 70 yard difference in field position. Beavs have been on the losing end of field position all year. Between that and the O handing the opponents points it skewed D numbers.

Biggest concern is still the offense. Have to have a QB who moves the chains and converts 3rd downs/passing downs. Those are the hard ones to make and we simply don’t move the chains on those downs. At least it seems that way. Don’t have the numbers in front of me.

    • Yeah I see the same. Looking better for sure. First down passes still killing the offensive flow. Nall averaging 6.9 per carry.
At least they are trying to get it in the RB’s hands more frequently via screens.

  16. And on cue, Luton again fails to move the chains on a 3rd down pass.
Anyone have his 3rd down passing numbers? It seems he never converts them.

  17. They’ve gotta commit to the run. The passing efficiency isn’t there when you start with the pass. Start with the run to open up the pass.

  18. Nall gets 13 and 10 on back to back runs to start the prior possession so they surprise Wazzu by throwing a long incompletion to start at the 10? How dense can they be? When Wazzu has a thin quick d-line, run right at them not around them or try to pass against them.

  19. D got Swiss Cheesy on that drive. That Falk pass looked so easy to defend, too. It was in the air forever and the defender was right there. How do you not swat that? It’s like it went through our guy.

  20. Hallelujah! They took a knee in the endzone. Playee had to stop AP though so the returner is not neing coached right to not run anything out.

  21. Is it just me or does our pre snap motion only serve to help telegraph to the defense exactly what the play will be? And the motion always looks to be at half speed.

    • Luton: “Hey, I’ll stomp my foot like Clever Hans, that will signal to you Ryan to shuffle off to the right and prepare to block for our running back who is going to go to the same side as well. The defense will never see this one coming. Ready….set…..hike!”

  22. Refs are getting nervous about Beavs gaining some momentum.

If the Beavs would just commit to running Nall and Pierce they might have a real shot at winning, but it won’t happen.

  23. Feel like these refs are working against us. They took forever to decide to review and gave wsu an extra long timeout. Pierce out of bounds should have been a “call stands” type of play.

We don’t need the refs to crush us in addition to our coaches.

  24. These refs working against us again. That PI was BS. Hand fights all game and that ball wasn’t catchable. That said the roughing call was right.

    • Isn’t that the whole purpose of the review? To prove if a catch actially occurred of it’s questionable?
Refs amd GA both blew that. Seemed easily like a review worthy play in live action, yet everybody just says “ho hum….play on”

  25. How come we can’t get pressure at all? I don’t mean just this game but other games too. It’s embarrassing.

In other news, cougs almost covered by halftime.

    • Pretty much every judgment call by the refs has gone against us. Gotta protect the ranked team, I guess. Sure we’d still be losing if called equally, but it doesn’t change the fact that the refs are crap.

    • It’s like when hole’s receivers would hold every single play, it’s happening in four spots of the field on every down so they just let it go?

    • Yeah even my non-football watching wife noticed. She’s goes….”The team is holding and pushing just as much….but you guys get penalty”. Yeah no shit. And Leach bullied the refs review on the that dropped ball. Fucking horse shit!!!

  26. Two TDs by WSU in final 1:30 of the half. That’s on GA or ‘on him’ as he would say and is an utter failure. GA needs to go if a coordinator isn’t gone within 3 weeks.

  27. So a WSU substitution penalty essentially gives them a 2nd chance to squib it and hope to get a special teams turnover score with no time left?
Only benefits the Cougs to replay that, right?

  28. Who is the deep threat on offense? That seems to hinder the o because the d doesn’t have to respect it. The best drive was the one where they ran and got ap in the open field.

  29. Luton’s sideline fades are uselessly inaccurate. Don’t recall any post routes. Receivers are getting open to no avail if the QB can’t get them the ball.

  30. Did anyone mention that Pierce downed that kickoff in the end zone with ZERO seconds on the clock. I guess if you are a defeated team, you think he’s going to fumble and Wazzu will scoop and score?

    • my thinking exactly. It will take weeks for OSU to recover from this disaster. They might be able to pull things together by the time ASU comes to town. 2-10

  31. when even Jim Wilson is talking about “how close” the Beavs are you have to wonder if it’s true or he’s just being polite to Mike Parker

    • That’s the only reason i’ll watch the 2nd half. To see if we go full McGivemln/Luton pass happy, or if we try running it more with DG to minimize further damage.
So funny that we were within 14-9 with a few minutes to go and I had a glimmer of hope that we could take that score to half time, but we managed to completely destroy any momentum we had.

  32. I say Lockette for Interim HC. Give him the keys to a junk Cadillac and let him start making wheelies. I am sure he would at least run more and hold the OC accountable.

Then go get Beau in the offseason unless Telly wins 3 Pac-12 games including the Civil War.

  33. At the game… downing that ball after electing to have them rekick is a summary of our coaching. All Beavs at our end let out a simultaneous wtf?
Well at least you can go buy beer right outside the stadium at half-time.

  34. What’s truly depressing about this situation is that WSU, as Angry once said, is OSU’s doppleganger. The test of OSU’s competitiveness is how they stack up vs. WSU virtually any single year. Long way to go, it would seem.

  35. The only pass Luton can complete is the 10 yard pass, and he throws it 100mph and always on the wrong shoulder so the WR is twisted and can’t get any YAC. He’s alright at that throw, can’t make any others…these bozos analyzing talent picked him.

We need to get out of the Ohio State game. Can’t win 1 game this year vs PSU and then go on the road and get killed by Ohio State to start next season. We also have no QB (I like Petras, but he’s probably 2 years off). This is the worst of times.

  36. I very seldom comment even though I have followed AB for a long time. I have to say Angry called this from the start of the season, GA has a new toy and he wants to play with it. Luton is not a Pac12 QB and it has cost us all year. Combine this with poor coaching and you have this shit show. WSU is not as good as past years and we have had opportunities to be in this game but Luton missing targets and terrible decisions by coaching and here we are looking like a bottom feeding football team. I really think there is enough talent on this team to be a contender in most games but not with this leadership.

  37. Nice block. I feel there are some positives on D in this game. Sack, block, should have had at least 2 INTs (“get on the jugs machine”, the announcer chides), etc. Yeah, points and yards suck, but given the O is putting them in terrible position it’s expected. I’m most concerned about the future due to QB play not the D. We have no QB in the pipeline. OSU should be able to go out and recruit the best JC QB in America. They can and will start here next year. Should be able to get a 5-star HS QB and sell him on playing time/changing this program. But no, GA instead wants to pretend he’s so good at spotting QBs he found a guy no other P5 program offered, as he runs a legit P5 QB out of town.

    We are SO fucked.

  38. Oregon/Wyoming is only 14-10. Doubt Wyoming can hang and they’ll probably lost by 40, but I always thought that coach was a good fit for that program. They play disciplined and good football, even when getting killed, which can keep them in a lot of games.

  39. Haha. Nall is so good. People were questioning if he’d make an NFL roster. Hilarious. Given that level of analysis they’d be a good fit on GA’s staff.

  40. I wonder what the record is for one QB’s TD’s vs. a single opponent. Falk has got to be approaching that if he doesn’t own it already

  41. Ducks pulling away and get the refs on board with an awful call. Should get reversed. Looks like they might have knocked the WY QB out of the game.

  42. The OSU football twitter is so embarrassing. haha. They just mention the good stuff. They’re talking about the Nall TD when WSU has scored like 200x since then.

  43. McGiven needs to be either demoted or fired after this game. Also, we’re going to need Luton to get injured, because it’s clear at this point that the coaching staff will always play him over anyone else as long as he’s healthy.

  44. I like GA. I’d be all on board with keeping him 5 years if he had the slightest fucking clue about QBs and would look outside of Utah State for coaches. Those are both his demise.

  45. so, this is a point in the game where you concede defeat, and try to get out of town without embarrassing yourself. you do that by trying to make the running game work. This staff, thinking the game can still be made respectable, will go pass, pass, pass, and since that is what WSU is expecting, it will fail

  46. OSU needs to seriously consider the Mountain West. Maybe they can sign an agreement to move there for a few years then come back to the PAC. Haha.

Holy shit. We have to go TO OHIO STATE to start next year. We should be playing Idaho St that week.

  47. Our football team literally has no history of being good. Present day we have no identity whatsoever. You could say that since Erickson bailed on us. Need to have some sort of plan here.

    • by pure coincidence I became a fan in 1999. I was aware of the long history of futility but never thought there would be a reversion to the 1970’s and ’80s, but friends, we’re there.

  48. Luton who staff is locked into despite if he turns it over 10 times a game, fumbles and WSU scores another easy TD by picking it up and running for 40+ yards.

This is the kind of play, after numerois examples of why Luton should have been pulled already, of why either McGiven or GA should be fired after this game.

    BEYOND INEXCUSABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. Luton is not capable of playing at this level. Andersen, Mcgiven and Clune are not capable of coaching at this level. Hence we are an embarresment. I feel bad for the players. I really feel we are better than this shit show!

    • Yep, fans would have been screaming for weeks to put in McM who should be on our team. GA could give a shit how many turnovers Luton has. What an effin joke.

Start Garretson and give yourself a decent game manager. Luton is honestly the worst game manager I have seen in 40 years of watching football.

GA said he wasn’t interested in a game manager which is assinine. Not interested in keeping GA employed if he thinks this is how you lead or win at football.

The QB MUST BE A GAME MANAGER YOU IDIOT!!!

      • Haven’t watched 40 years, but in the ~15 years I have watched Luton is the worst QB I have seen. One thing Riley was really good at was spotting QBs (other than missing on Moore).

  50. I’ve been thinking of going back to school for a law degree. Now realize I need to pick USC, Washington, or Oregon and just end this OSU thing. It’s the only way, because OSU can’t get out of their own way, so I’ll have to get out of theirs.

    • I respect Luton trying his best but he should have been pulled a quarter ago or earlier today. Any otger staff would have sent in the backup before this happened. GA being a stubborn ass when the guy has had such a long day was flat out not the right decision.

Prayers for Luton. Shouldn’t require scaring all of Beaver Natiok about a potential life changing injury for GA to just have common sense.

  51. Why was that even a debate about targeting with the announcers? Moore got called last week on a guy going down and tried to check up. This fucker left his feet.

I am sick of watching Luton as much everyone else but he may have broken his neck…

  52. Bullshit refs. That WSU player hit his head. It’s right there on video. Unbelievable. Refs should be suspended for the numerous horrible biased calls this game.

  53. If I was Gary Anderson I would trash this conference and these refs. I would say my guys played their guys out and then the refs rigged the game. They then took away a targeting call at the league office. I would create an absolute shit storm. I would lobby for Thompson to lose his season.

  54. Sad. A lot of people here been calling for Lutons head, and the coaching staff delivered it. He was just a kid who wanted to play QB in D1.

    • It’s part of the job, man. QB always gets criticism. In this case it was deserved, and much of that was on GA for picking him without any reason.

        • Yep. It’s painful to think how the season might be if GA started McM, had Garrettson as the backup, and let Luton learn. Or even Garettson as the starter. I mentioned a few weeks ago I thought he should be the starter over Luton and some jerk laughed. Clearly he’s better at QBing, which entails a lot more than throwing hard or far.

          • Why would he start MM when we have Garretson?

MM has corrected some of his major issues, but he still has issues that make him a back-up at best.

          • Luton could have learned if he had remained at Idaho. The Petrinos know quarterbacks, which is perhaps why he didn’t put Luton in place when he (Luton) was a freshman. And, as I recall, when asked for a statement during (or soon after?) Luton’s signing, Paul Petrino basically said nothing.

      • Willard is like Luton 2.0. Big, tall, huge arm, and no brains or accuracy. At least that’s what I saw on film.
Blount is a walk-on. The odds of him being good are slim. OSU should go with Garrettson no matter what the rest of the way, and hope Petras can play as a freshman. Petras is the first GA QB who looks promising.

        • Agree on petras. I think luton could be good next year however. Personally i think he has showed steady improvement. Petras as a redshirt sophomore or frosh could make a huge difference.

  55. I’m not surprised that this happened the way the OL has been playing. I won’t be surprised if DG gets hurt too before the season is over.

The 3rd and 4th string guys better be getting ready.

  56. Call me crazy, but I think if we started McM (where he here) or Garrettson we’d be 2-2 right now. Possibly 3-1.

I don’t think people understand that an efficient O that can move the chains and maintain field position changes entire outcomes of games. Yeah the D looks awful, but they’d look a lot better if these things happened at the QB position. I don’t blame Luton himself. I blame GA and McGiven for awful analysis.

    • I thought Luton had moments against csu. I liked watching him work through progressions. He got hesitant and regressed after that. Should know to move on from there. Honestly, Garrettson was decent for us last year before he was beat up over the first few games. I love an offense that is efficient and plays field position and TOP. Garrettson could do that for us. A lot more to look forward to than there has been.

      • That CSU secondary was reportedly awful (people used stats from last year to back this up). To my eye, that secondary looked totally beatable with a viable QB. People need to get this through their head: the offense was responsible for 27 of the points vs CSU. And that’s just direct points off turnovers, etc. Never mind field position. And people want to blame the D dealing with that at elevation? I don’t buy it. Good QB play and we’re in that game. I think the players knew that and it’s why they quit. GA handing Luton the job was a huge error/problem. We actually have a chance to improve now, because I think the players respect Garrettson.

    • Hard to argue against this. I know that you and others had predicted McM would transfer. At the time, I thought that was a drastic perspective. When he moved on it changed the entire dynamic of this team and it appears that it will be a massive struggle to recover from.
I would like to know if GA was the prime mover in the selection of Luton as the starter or if that was McGiven.

    • How about delusional instead. Dude, you accuse others of having a hard on for players ON the team you don’t care for but here you are continuing to slob all over MCM’s knob and he’s at Fresno St now?

Like a jilted ex lover. Let it go and move on.

      • Ignore coaches not picking the best QB? Yeah you get what you deserve if that’s your attitude.

“Let the massive error slide because he’s not here” is some of the dumbest logic I’ve heard. Completely failing to see he isn’t here because of the error. Good job, Whiskey. Might want to take a longer break and get your head straight.

    • Let’s add fuck the pac12 offices. The central office reviewed that play and somehow decided it wasn’t targeting. If that isn’t evidence that the conference is against us then I don’t know ow what is.

  57. Good news. Luton moved all extremities at the hospital.

He still needs to watch from the sideline for atleast the next 4 weeks.

Playing him would be reckless as he needs to heal 100% and not risk a serious reinjury.

GA even thinks of playing him before mid October then Barnes should FIRE GA on the spot.

      • Not sure about Clune. GA was following him around in practice all week…several busted plays this week. TBH I thought the D looked very good in between the busted plays. 3 sacks, should have had at least 2 INT where it not for nerves/inexperience. I mean that’s progress. I’d fire McGiven first. He never deserved the position, and my guess is he’s in GA’s ear giving input on QBs. That type of (poor) analysis needs to go ASAP. Lots of “ums” in interviews, too. Not sure he’s a smart guy.

        • –he’s in GA’s ear giving input on QBs–

This is what I think. I also think he’s the primary driver of all things related to scheme. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out he’s the Rasputin who had Baldwin exiled to inside receivers.

It’s conspiracy central. But it’s the only thing that makes sense right now.

  58. I haven’t watched a non-Beav game in 5 years, but I might check out Washington to see if McM plays. That starter looks awful. Curious if Tedford continues to mess up, too.

  59. Glad I couldn’t watch. Anyone know where to get a press conference feed so I can get my weekly masochism in?

Were there any glimmers of hope in this one, or was it basically just more of the same garbage?

  60. San Diego State beating ASU and now Stanford. Not a big fan of Rocky Long for head coach, by may want to look at some of the assistants — doing more with less.
