  1. I think they’ll perform better than many expect without LINTon at QB. Maybe even pull an upset.

Or it’s that big fat bag of crack I just smoked talking. Could be that.

  2. Looks like students are showing up in good numbers (see free tuition) bit the rest of the stands are pretty empty. Even Husky fans didn’t want to make the trip down.
    Go Beavs!
    Cause we’re TNT….

    • GA gets blown out at home again. A few nice runs by Nall and Tre Johnson but McPassin throws 53% of the time again. Broken record repeats yet again. Fans abandon the smelly stink of GA and crew by the late 3rd quarter. Only 12K in stands by end of game.

What do you mean by free tuition? Are they offering that at OSU now? Thanks.

  3. I can’t wait for the Oregon and Fresno games to start. Much more interesting plot lines in those games. This one is over fast. Only humor/interest from this game will be making fun of GA’s incompetence on Twitter haha.

  4. Our defense couldn’t tackle a high school freshmen running back. Completely embarrassing how bad we are at the most fundamental part of defense.

  5. This is only the 2nd game I’ve been able to sit down and watch (Minnesota). A few things I noticed on UW’s first drive……..

Saw more flailing than tackling. Are guys on D out of position that badly due to making wrong reads? Are the DB’s taught to not start moving until the receiver they are covering is parallel with them? The pass to Pounds that beat Crawford down the sideline, Crawford didn’t even move his feet until Pounds was almost by him. Is he supposed to jam him at the LOS and just completely whiffed????

UW looks way faster on O and D.

  6. I have seen enough. Andersen has got to go!!! Get Beau Baldwin this offseason, while he still might consider us, before we are down to 10-15K showing up for home games.

  7. The D looks like GA’s first season, what the hell happened? And as I say that, they have a good series, but I had visions of Bright and Manase dominating this year.

  8. No reason for the opponent to play any farther than 15 yards beyond the LOS until they figure out how to stretch the field vertically. Run the ball all you want but it’s going to be mostly tough sledding uphill.

  9. I wonder why we abandoned the Pistol we ran last year. Nall was able to hit the hole with more momentum rather than standing around forever in the backfield from the Shotgun. Seems like it bought us an extra two yards of failing forward on most plays.

  10. I just noticed the Fresno game is going to be on a backwater over-the-air channel called “Stadium” here in the PDX area at 7pm. I’m thinking by then watching McM might be a little more interesting then this.

    • They were never the problem. Despite the snarky comments to the contrary.
Any D will cave when the O puts them in bad position over and over and over and over…

They’re a bad D but not an awful D like the stats and scores make it seem. With a good O this D would be ranked in the 60-70s probably.

For whatever reason people don’t understand all 3 phases of football are intimately linked.

      • Sorry but that is a false narrative. The offense is bad, no question. Worse than the defense. And yes that does put extra pressure on the D. But that absolutely does not excuse the putrid defense we’ve seen so far this season.

I would buy that argument if our defense came out of the gates solid, worsened as the game rolled on, and collapsed by the 4th quarter (think Oregon in 2017 CW). But no, we’ve been largely bad start to finish. The D is plenty bad in their own right.

Last week we saw major improvement, but were horrible on 3rd down and gave up many backbreaking big plays. This week our first drive was awful but they’ve been great since then. If we collapse in the 4th due to no ToP, I’ll blame the O.

        • We were in every game at the half until the O failed to move the ball, D wore out at the half, and were always defending a short field. And you’re leaving out ST, like Bradford muffing punts and fair catching at the 5 yard line. Sorry, dude.

They’re mediocre for sure but the O is the main problem, specifically the QB and play calling.

  11. That’s a fucking touchback, a couple refs on this crew are backing the huskies hard. Near side line judge tried to fuck us with the bailout PI on wilson

  12. On the first Huskies drive, our D looked like they hadn’t realized the game had started. Afterward, they’ve been really good.

Also, these announcers are terrible. I expected better for coverage of likely the best team in the conference.

    • It was like they decided the substitution wouldn’t have given them a 1st down, so they went with the phantom holding call that was nowhere hear the play

  13. Villy is so bad. Put in anyone over him.

He was good for one season with Mannion, and it’s been all downhill since. Something is wrong with his mind.

  14. Throwing on 3rd and 2.

At this point, I’m convinced if McGiven had the ball on 1st and inches, he would throw three times in a row.

  15. Unfortunately, I think our “stay the course” approach to halftime adjustments will prove catastrophic. Overall though a good half of football. Major props to the D.

  16. What might be the biggest difference in defensive improvement: safety play.

Brandon Arnold was an absolute liability in coverage early on. Morris was an immediate upgrade and he’s getting better every week. Hudson seems to be coming into his own as well- seems a lot better than Moore.

  17. The common theme I see watching OSU is that every analyst criticizes OSU play-calling and strategy.

At Colorado State, I believe Rick Neuheisel was criticizing the lack of run attempts. During this game, they’re criticizing the inability or lack of downfield play calls to at least try to keep the defense honest. If every single fucking announcer or analyst can see this, why can’t GA?

Mcgiven sucks balls. Thanks for nothing.

  18. We could have Tom Brady back there and we would still have zero chance. Lack of creative play calling, playmakers at receiver, and a dumpster fire for an O line and this is what you get

  19. Not that it matters, but that Dunn holding call looked like it was a Pac12 ref bailout call, just in case UW needed it. Was there any hint of holding by Dunn?

  20. If you don’t think refs are told by the conference to further the interests of the conference (i.e. keep top teams on top) then the shoe companies are completely clean with college basketball.

  21. Halftime adjustment: GA blabbing about trusting the process yada yada, McGiven in a corner hoping he doesn’t get fired at the half, Clune saying “do whatever you’re doing it’s working”…meanwhile, D players huddle up and say “I’m tired, fuck this offense, they’ll never score so time to rest.”

Rinse, repeat. That’s why I still believe this is all on the O, despite the 60-0 likely final.

Turned the game off. Time to check out Oregon and Fresno.

  22. Ultimately it comes down to the offense, but just too many critical 3rd and long or 4th downs given up, which has killed the otherwise good defensive play.

  23. Washington announcers having a good chuckle at OSU’s expense. I can’t believe McGiven won’t be fired after this. Defeat is one thing, sheer ineptitude another.

  24. The worst part about all this is that the defense played their freaking hearts out tonight before they ran out of energy. We were absolutely in this game even down 14-0 thanks to their efforts, and McGiven just takes a big steaming dump all over their work.

  25. Marcus 12-13 for 107 yards and a TD. Fresno up 10-0.

Time to start the “Nevada sucks” chants.

Let me ask you this: does Luton or DG put up those points or stats vs NV? Nope.

  26. This is not good. Hope this is the low point and we figure some shit out soon and beat a few teams. It seems like we match up so well against these other teams but we haven’t exactly killed it recruiting the past few years now so what can we honestly expect? The kids are trying to play hard and our coaches are among the best there is. Give it more time and realize this could be a fluke down year too.

    • Ignoring the drama surrounding his departure, do you really think our record is any different with McMaryion at QB? We’d still have Anderpants and McGivint. He’s like your first love that got away, angry. Built up to perfection in your mind, faults forgotten.

      • The offensive “braintrust” chose a guy who is clearly not a strong PAC 12 QB and designed the offense around him rather than trying to incrementally improve on what we already had. They came up with their offensive system, then tried to force their players into it, rather than working around the talent that was there (e.g. lack of two RB sets until a month into the season).

Angry is just using MM as an example of the staff’s ineptitude and beating it to death.

      • We’d be 2-2 heading into this game (we’d beat CSU with McM that secondary was awful…they gave up Luton’s only long TD on the year!), would have been in it with MN longer and then anything goes, and would have been in the WA game. Team moral would have been better from Game 1, which also would have bode well.

At least McGiven will be fired soon. It’s the only positive from the McM botchery. We’re left with a head coach who knows nothing about QBs, though.

        • Doubt it highly.

If MM was the starter from the beginning, we would have been led by a milquetoast coward who probably would have run away during the first game.

      • Jack has no idea how to analyze QBs. I tried to say it as nicely as possible to him in order to avoid 100 crazy responses. But calling McM noodle arm just proves he knows shit. Maybe he should change his name to jack shit. Hah.

He’ll come up with some hamster wheel rationalization for the 45 yard pass, like there was a tornado and the wind took it.

  27. Beavs score, so there goes the shutout and McGiven’s pink slip. He’s guaranteed another three games as OC – offense is turning the corner.

  28. Washington announcers getting a big kick out of the “2 fireworks” that went off. Giggled about how few people are there, and not much chance to use fireworks at Oregon State. “Use ’em or lose ’em. ”
    Tee hee.

    • That was pretty pathetic.

And it sounds more like a weed whacker live than it does on TV. Can’t we get Randy with a log instead?

      Wait….

Score prediction from last thread…guess i was too generous For both teams. I couldn’t find it, but I know I also said that if McGivin would force DG to run the same offense they had Luton run instead of the option game we played last year, we will lose and lose big. If we ran the offense we ran last year, we would have given ourselves a better chance of being more competitive or even winning.

This ‘game plan’ or whatever the hell it is, is clearly not working when you punt or turn the ball over(same thing in the defenses eyes) every offensive possession. It has to wear on the defense mentally knowing that if you make a stop, it just means you get a 30 second-3 minute break before you have to go back out on the field. No wonder the defense looks bad in the second half; they just stop trying hard because they don’t see the point in getting gassed every game.

I bet the coaches will say, ‘it was better, but we were also playing the top 10 defense in the country. So we just need to limit the mistakes on offense and get better OL play.’ *rolls eyes* bullshit. Defense is ahead of the offense; by about 2 years.

  30. So the anti McMaryion arguments so far:

    1. He only did well vs Arizona and Oregon. They leave out Utah and Washington State, and also make the false assumption that anyone could have thrown for 5TDs vs Arizona and won a CW.

    2. Noodle arm. False if you watch games instead of drawing conclusions from his little nerd head.

    3. He can’t run. Even though he was a top 10 dual threat QB coming out of HS and ran for 80 yards on the Ducks once the coaches let him run. But none of that matters. It’s just the Ducks and every HS team he played were awful.

    Now he goes to Fresno.

    1. Dominates in limited reps vs Incarnate World. “That college sucks”. Yes, true.

    2. Dominates vs Alabama in limited reps. “Oh that was just garbage time it doesn’t matter”

    3. Dominates vs Washington in limited reps vs 1st and 2nd string. Myth that he “did it all vs 3rd string hacks”. Even if true, which it isn’t, Washington’s 3rd string is better than Fresno’s first string.

    4. Dominates Nevada. “Oh, that’s just Nevada they stink.”

Always an excuse. A truthful answer looks like this:

“GA ran the best QB off the team. Yeah, he didn’t have the strongest arm, but he was the best QB on the roster. Dude finished his degree in a few years, high IQ, mastered Fresno’s playbook in weeks. OSU players rallied around him. GA handing Luton the job divided the team. So while Marcus might not be an NFL all world QB, he was good for this system and has proven himself at every opportunity, unlike the starting QB on our roster.” …oh, “And we just hate him because Angry was right.”

That’s reality. Gary ruined the season. McGiven helped him. Suck it with your excuses and rationalizations.

    • Steve Gress with the GA press conference comment:

Andersen said he didn’t know why Hodgins didn’t play. He should know why he wasn’t out there. Passes the buck to assistants. Not good look

    • 1. He did moderately well against Utah. Nobody has asked for a list of the the most moderately well games played by QBs in the last three years, to my knowledge. His Wazzu game was possibly the worst QB game for OSU in the last several years. Stop bringing it up. It’s actually a little painful to recall… fucking River Cracraft.
      2. Noodle arm. You must scheme around that if you’re the OC. He cannot throw a deep out. He can’t hit a shallow hitch on a blitz read. Get over it.
      3. Who said he can’t run? He refused to run. He was getting screamed at by mother fucking Kevin McGiven to run the goddamn ball when he so fucking obviously missed the reads. This is not even up for debate. Anyone within 40 rows of the sideline knows this. Don’t know what HS has to do with anything. He rarely ran in HS. Or do those stats not matter now?

      1. 2. 3. All true except your insistence that UW wasn’t getting their scrubs some letterman jackets.

      4. Understatement.

Ga didn’t do shit other than tell some weak-minded would be leader that he isn’t the starter. GA didn’t run away when times got hard. You’re supporting someone who fucked OSU when he was in a position to help us. I give no quarter to that kind of cowardice.

You can go fuck yourself for trying.

  31. Missed the game but came home to see the score. Saw the score at the half? Anyone with a legit quick recap?

I am kind of glad I missed this debacle. Part of me was hoping that the basketball scandal meant all of college sports would collapse this week so I wouldn’t have to watch our dreadful teams anymore (baseball excluded).

    • We were good on D for a half like in every other game, the offense didn’t move the ball (like in every other game), the D eventually wore out, and we got blown out like in every other game.

    • Buy an air popper and a bucket of kernels for the hoops scandal. It’s going to be a slow drip for a long time. I’ve heard the FBI is locked on at least 40 schools, maybe 50+. I’ve heard some hoops analysts who are in the know that, if they wanted, the FBI could find as many as 100 schools running cash.

Tuesday was an awesome day for college hoops. But it was just one of many coming awesome days.

  32. Honestly the defense was solid. Seems weird to say that with a 42-7 game, but the offense was so so bad.

I really feel mcgiven is on his last leg. He is an awful awful oc. Granted this game(uw defense is good), but we had no rhythm or direction. We just seem to be such a, throwing darts in the dark, offense.

I feel woods or the first oc? Can finish this year, and we need to hire a serious, very good qb coach/oc. Just hold your breathe and prey that petras is the savior!!

Go Beavs as always, but damn

    • Honestly the defense was solid. Seems weird to say that with a 42-7 game, but the offense was so so bad.

What’s weird is it’s been exactly that way in every game yet nobody saw it.

At least this game cemented that the O is the real problem. Very obvious from snap 1 of the season if you know football.

      • What do u mean nobody saw it? It doesn’t take a genius to realize that not many points and yards from an offense means it’s a problem. Get off your high horse.

        • Too bad the comments are locked, and if you go read them, almost everyone blamed the D until today. I had to painstakingly explain to them how the 3 units are interlocked and the O/ST were the main problems.

      • No, they are both still a problem.

Both can be bad and both are bad.

Just because UW only scored 7 points in the first half doesn’t mean the defense was actually all that great. UW still got plenty of yards in the first half. Hardly impressive defense. DBs also got away with at least 2 obvious PI’s in the first that finally got called in the 2nd half. What saved the defense in the 1st half was that UW had poor field position on nearly every drive so they could give up some 1st downs and still get a stop. UW ran 40 plays in the 1st half, 44 in the 2nd half. Field position just stopped saving the defense in the 2nd half.

    • I’m not so sure McGiven is “on his last leg”; GA seems pretty stubborn and attached to the idea of “getting the old band back together”. Hope I’m wrong.

  33. Andersen seems to be getting fed up with the offensive ineptitude in the post game interview but then says it’s on me. Jesus get a real coordinator or resign already

  34. McMaryion another 40 yard TD.

    20-23, 260, 2TD.

Is he the best “Mc-3rd string”, noodle-armed, boring game manager ever? Poor A@A.

Yeah I think we’d be a totally different team with him at the helm from game 1.

      • Translation:

“Let the coaches off the hook for their awful, season changing decision…yet, I’m still going to go on to complain how our team stinks…I’ll just find other things to blame.”

No. I will not let GA off the hook for his awful decision. If you do, you deserve the pain of the losing and are part of the problem. Winning programs get key decisions right. Getting them wrong should never be forgiven. It’s why you are OSU.

        • Nice the old put words in your oppositions mouth lol. Im not letting anyone off the hook. U r super sensitive to the mcm situation and its weird. U claim to know football but if u beleive the record would be different u r as stubborn as ga.

    • How’d he do in the second half?

We would not be a different team with him from the start. McGiven would have fallen in love with his game against Zony and made all the same calls.

      He’s McGiven.

  35. Why didn’t we fire/demote McLovin during the bye? That would have been the obvious time. New QB and two weeks to prepare. I know that the playbook wouldn’t have changed that much but it was the perfect chance to hit the reset.

  36. I believe that since the Beavs change logo to the Nutria we have been on a steep downward spiral.

I was really excited by the first half play, and can’t quite come to grips with the abrupt turnaround in the second half. The fire was flaming hot!

I blame everything on the Nutria!

  37. I blame the head coach for the assessment of qb. Mcmaryion should have been given the keys bar none.

But let’s fire our qb coach and move on.

  38. Cal with a huge INT.

    TD, Cal.

Shows how important the right QB is. Herbert out, hack comes in, game completely changes and suddenly Oregon D looks terrible. Shocker.

  39. The problem is the visor.
    I’ve told you this before.
The team hates looking at the ugly butch haircut pop out of a goofy visor. Other coaches who wear visors have hair (and even those coaches should not wear visors). Do cowboys wear visors? Do marines wear visors? Do kick boxers wear visors? Women golfers wear visors. Yes, women golfers wear visors. That’s the problem.
    Nuf said.

    • The problem is the mentality. Look at the bozo above saying to forget about the coaches fucking up the entire season with their decisions.

Look at that video OSU put out teaching fans how to cheer with AC/DC music straight out of the 70s.

Look at the chainsaw straight out of ’83 that we run on 3rd downs when down 40.

It’s not rocket science to figure out why the school has a loser mentality. Starts at the top and trickles to the fans. Everything OSU does is lame and embarrassing.

  40. I don’t know how much of it is Jonathan Smith but I was pretty impressed with the UW play calling throughout this game. Haven’t been on the “Smith for coach” bandwagon but I do like the idea of getting a young guy that can better relate to kids and if Smith would want the gig who could be better at selling OSU to recruits than a guy that was part of OSU’s best team in recent history?

While hiring him seems like a homer call it could actually make sense.

Either way, if Andersen survives this season (and he probably will) it proves OSU has no real desire to compete in football.

  41. People argued against McM from day 1 while Angry, if I’m remembering this accurately, argued for him literally the entire time. I don’t even think Angry thinks he’s a prodigy, all he said was that he should be the guy over everybody else. But everyone here pushed back “oh no Seth is sooooo much better,” “oh no Luton is a big giant arm he’s better” and now it comes to “well McM is gone time to forget about it.”

Everyone is super eager to forget about McM because it reminds them that they were wrong and GA was wrong. I think part of it is that everyone was drinking the GA koolaid and just agreeing blindly with the Seth and Luton decisions. It’s time to stop buying into all these decisions blindly and start seeing who the real talents are and recognize how bad GA’s decisions have been with the QB issue.

    • Can we just generally agree on the following:

      * McM better than most of us thought initially
      * GA and crew don’t know what the hell they are doing with QBs and handled LDR and McM situation like crap
      * McM is marginally better than the QBs we have now but at least he won some games (albeit against horrible defenses.)
      * Angry has a beaver boner for McM

      Cool?

      • *McM was downplayed by GA and Co which allowed everyone to jump on the anti McM bandwagon
        *AGREED
        *Mostly agree
*Nah that makes it seem like an irrational liking. Angry can’t let it go because it’s the principal reason this team sucks, and he doesn’t want to let GA get away with letting it happen.

        • All right, how about I go with “big boy boner” instead? :)

Not sure the McM situation is the main reason the team sucks. That’s not giving enough credit to McGivint’s ineptitude and Offense of the Week philosophy.

      • All I can agree with at this point is we’re in deep trouble. We have no QB ready in the pipeline, and even if we did, our head coach wouldn’t know what to do with him.

I do like Petras, but I’m not sure he’s good enough to play as a freshman. He might have to. He’ll be the best on the roster next year if GA doesn’t screw that up somehow.

        • Prediction: as soon as he starts showing some kind of competence GA will fly off to find a high stakes player to put all his chips into and then run him off the team.

GA is basically the coach equivalent of the girl who always goes for the mysterious bad boy.

        • I do agree we are in big trouble… partly because of the qb but also because of the line…. our line sucked and every qb we sent to slaughter last year sucked…. until Sean Harlow came back…then we could run a little bit… the qb looked better and we all had hope. Then Gus transferred we started a bunch of new guys…. started some pass happy crap offense and even when we try to run without a great move by the back we are stuffed……yes 3m would maybe be a little better but bottom line…we have been able to get a few speed guys on both sides of the ball sin GA came but our bigs are lacking…until we figure that out 3m and all the rest are screwed…. and yeah the recruiting can be attributed to GA and McCrappy….

          • At least there are some good OL in the system. Not worried about the OL.

            No good QBs.

Gary thought Moran was a good QB. I watched that one HS game on ESPN and could tell he wasn’t. No other P5 school offered him at QB. Same as Luton. Same as Williard, I believe? Seth had 1 offer.

These all should have been very obvious based on the film, but even if Gary is poor at analyzing QB film, look at the offer sheet…if nobody offers or they offer the guy at a different position it’s a pretty good sign you’re reaching.

          • We’ll find about about Willard. Luton actually isn’t that bad. Sorry… wasn’t.

I have zero hope as long as McGiven is the OC. The play calling was 1000% better today. But it was ineffective because we were just outmatched… and Villy couldn’t catch a slant.

            Wtf, Villy?

It’s weird. Villy catches bad throws from Luton. But he can’t hold on to anything from DG or MM?

      • *nope… he is what he is. I’ve written much in support of him. It has come to pass. He’s a decent back-up on the P5 level. He’ll be better next year.
*disagree wholly… LDR should be a walk-on on the D1 level, not just P5. MM just didn’t win the starting spot and ran away. I imagine he threw some hissy where he threatened to leave if the coaches didn’t change their minds, and they told him, “Oh yeah? Well you’re not second string anymore.”
*agree because he would remove a lot of the playbook from our OC.
*agree… best QB has zero bearing on where we are now, and ignoring the obvious leadership quality of running away when things don’t go your way is just dumb.

          • No I need to quit drinking… I was thinking about Will Hopkins that transferred… but the premise is the same… our line didn’t do crap for the qb or backs last year until Harlow came back (and we hit the weak part of our scheduale) this year it is the same….even when we try to run we don’t get much push. I know angry and some say we have some good young guys getting bulked up but until I see it I have a hard time believing we will see much success no matter who the qb or back or wr is…. but bottom line if GA wants to be hands off on offense…. he needs to make a change to his staff and now….

          • UW is just that much better than we are. Don’t pretend that even a great O-line can work it aganst that front six. I was rather impressed by ours and our commitment to the run. They had safeties creeping into the box. That’s the first time I’ve seen UW do that this year.

And we were rarely behind the chains on 3rd down. That was nice to see. I wish we would have built that foundation in game 1.

I don’t know why Villy can’t catch any passes from anyone not named Mannion or Luton. Our conversion on 3rd would have been much better if he didn’t drop passes… or get pegged in the head by them.

    • I don’t think anybody said what you “quoted”, or had the mentality your portraying. The QB position is the one that people have been most concerned about since he was hired, given his track record at UW. I remember cautious optimism that the coaches actually had a clue what they were doing. Many people hoped Luton would be utilized effectively in a run-first offense.

3M would probably be doing terrible at OSU too, because guess what, he’d have McGiven as a coach. The OC is the major issue. The DC is one, too. And HC is looking questionable.

      • Oh… it got a little hazy last year because DG had moxie, and MM had about as much moxie as he has pterodactyls. It was tough watching the two QBs who tried get stomped by the tough part of the schedule just to have MM step in and… well… suck until he literally faced a D that had three practice quad members starting.

But he was my QB, and I would support him, dammit!

Then he ran away when he got a tinge of adversity.

        Buh-bye.

Don’t let the door hit your pussy on the way out, you disloyal little fuck.

Stop talking about him. Stop worrying about him. Bringing him up reminds me that he is weak and runs away when things don’t magically go his way.

        Boo fucking hoo.

The only thing that sates my disdain for fraidy-cats like that is that they end up in Malebolge like he did.

        Good fucking riddance.

  42. Forgive me if this was posted already but remember before Ga ran off Marcus there was also Del Rio.

    http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/florida-gators/os-gators-media-day-mike-bianchi-0804-20160803-column.html

The memory of Andersen telling him that “you’ll never play” at Oregon State still burns in Del Rio’s mind like it was yesterday.

“It was Tuesday about 6:50 in the morning when they told me, and I still had to go to practice because it was during spring drills,” Del Rio recalls. “It hurt; it hurt a lot. I asked them, ‘So do you want me to transfer?’ That’s when they said, ‘Look, we’re not telling you to do anything; we’re just telling you that you’ll never play here.'”

  43. This Cal vs Oregon game is about as hard to watch as an Oregon State vs Oregon State game would be. Both teams look terrible, especially with Herbert and Freeman out

  44. In more important news, the baseball team scrimmaged today. Mixed squads and the guys were wearing different numbers so it was hard to follow any of the new guys.

Overall the team looked solid. Ended 4-4 after 8 innings. Gambrell and tweedt started. Eisert, verberg and a new lefty pitched as well.

Two guys hit homeruns. Not sure who they were though. This is good since they are the guys providing depth.

The main guys looked very good. Kwan was 3 for 4 with his only out being a hard line drive to rf. Larnach hit the ball real hard each time up. Grenier too. Madrigal didn’t have his best day at the plate but made some MLB level plays on defense. Adleys had a nice double to rf.

Barring major injuries, beavs are set up for a deep postseason run again. Tremendous depth.

The only concern I saw was with the backup catchers. A little slow on pop times and arms could be better.

    • Actually, I take it back. That was possibly the most depressing press conference I’ve ever seen after a football game. I think I’m going to go tie a belt around my neck and well…..you know….

      • It seems crazy he deflects every last question about the offense saying he doesn’t know… where is Hodgins… don’t know… did you change plan for DG….. maybe a little (more or less don’t know) he did seem to acknowledge Tyner a little and did acknowledge our line didn’t do crap but then turns around and says the offensive struggles are on him as head coach. Well GA if you are going to take responsibility take it…. know what your offense is doing…. know where your players are as far as during the game…or for god sakes get rid of McCrappy and hire an offensive mind that doesn’t make you look like an idiot every Saturday night when you have to answer those questions…

    • I probably won’t watch the presser (no point), but I saw a quote that GA had “no idea why Isaiah Hodgins didn’t play” and referred the media to McGiven and Phillips (who were both conveniently unavailable). How is that possible? Isn’t that the second or third time now he has said that this season regarding player’s status? Is this common from a HC? I’v never heard of it before. A lot weird fucking things have happened under GA, he seems disengaged or the lunatics (meaning assistant coaches) are running the asylum and he is not in total control. This is going to be a brutal year and a half until there is no choice but to fire him.

  45. Seeing rumors that Herbert is done for season with Broken collar bone.
Duck fans also speculating Freeman is done, after they burn their freshman running back Felix’s redshirt.

    • Who the hell pluses that?

It is what it is, but don’t celebrate injury. I thought we had a bunch of low-level Duck minds lurking and commenting. But plusing that makes me think we just have a couple dicks who pose with seven different handles.

  46. All is not lost, we did get a new commit tonigjt, I’ve been told.
Not sure who yet, but I would keep my eye on Victor Terry (or Levengood, or Thomas) Wouldnt be surprised if we end up with all 3 eventually.

  47. Done with Oregon State until there is an entire new leadership structure. Beavs are beyond an embarrassment. A national laughingstock for years now. Consensus worst P5 program and numbers for offense that make us one of the worst fre of all 121 teams in the FBS.

Once GA is gone, Barnes is gone, Ed Ray is gone, Mike Parker is gone and we reinvent as a creative program run by someone age 38-40, I will return. That will allow a new coach his entire early 40s to bring consistent winning to Corvallis. Play by play by someone born after 1980 for new inspured energy over the radio waves. Until then I am DONE.

  48. GA couldn’t even answer a question about having a different offensive approach with DG at QB. “When I’m trying to do what I do, I can’t handle every little thing.”

      • I did not realize he got hurt. My point was that he has a 64% completion rate this year. Better/comparable to our qb’s. Did we let another good one go? The point has been made previously I realize.

Comparisons of qb’s on different teams with different offensive lines are hard to make. What would MMM look like playing with Alabama talent? What would Lutton look like?

I did see a few missed throws yesterday but also saw Villy drop about three. We have to be able to complete more than just shovel passes and short passes to the running backs. The offense just looks bad. There were a few run plays that looked well blocked and conceived but we could not run Nall up the middle.

This team is a mess. Angry has it pegged. Inability to evaluate and recruit good QB’s. Inability to coach and improve players. Inability to recruit or develop lineman. Poor evaluation of assistant coaches. Coach-speak but inability to deliver. Can’t decide on an offensive system or adapt to the players abilities.

        • No. We did not let a good one go. He’s a walk-on talent who completes, “… shovel passes and short passes to the running backs.”

I have zero clue what Nall has to do with LDR not being able to complete a three yard pass.

We just played one of the best teams in the country with a system we should have installed in game one, not this game. The outcome should have been expected. If we run that system against CSU, Minnie and Wazzu, we have a chance to win all three, no matter who our QB is. If we run the same system that lost us all those games, we lose this one 77-20.

I’ll take 42-7 and a new beginning over that likely alternative.

        • Yeah LDR was not good, but it was shitty how GA handled it. To say “You’re never going to play here” is rude but fine so long as you help the guy transfer. The fact he told him that, then told him he wasn’t telling him to transfer is just awful. That’s the story. Not that LDR was good or GA was bad for saying he wouldn’t play. I agree with GA that LDR should not have played. Just wasn’t good. Help him find a new school. Especially if you claim to “care about kids” in every interview.

          • I didn’t read that line the same way. How do we know they didn’t help him transfer? I read that as giving him the option to stay if he wanted, but informing him that he had no future contributing to the team. Blunt/direct, which is definitely GA, but reasonable.

I guess the question is whether they helped him transfer/move on to a new school. Does anyone know that?

          • Pac coaches are bound by ships. Once given, you can’t tell anyone you’re going to take it away.

Sorry to burst that bullshit narrative.

          • Whatever you need to justify it, man.

I can’t imagine any prideful athlete staying in that situation. McM put in the work to complete his degree so he had the option to leave and go start elsewhere. Since GA hosed him, he took advantage of that hard work and desire to start. It’s great. And you spin it as loser. Really sad.

          • Have you considered that McM felt he did what he could to win the starting job and he left out of frustration and the opportunity to play elsewhere? Tedford knows a thing or two about quarterbacking. I would be pleased to be wanted in that situation. I have no idea if he would have helped the Beavs this year, but he is obviously an asset to Fresno St. I would hold off the insults, unless you have inside information that confirms your take. I wouldn’t call it adversity, this isn’t high school football or a Chip Hilton novel, I would call it a smart career choice.

          • He certainly did have that option. He should have taken advantage of it before camp started so as to not waste anyone’s time, including his own. Instead he created this myth about hi being a leader who was worthy of leading a team.

Then he ran away once he got a little bit of bad news.

            Chickenshits do that.

If he had an ounce of nobility in his spineless body, he would have stayed and would likely be the starter for us now. But no. He ran away.

He should be dead to any OSU fan for the chickenshit way he handled all this.

          • Have you considered that McM felt he did what he could to win the starting job and he left out of frustration and the opportunity to play elsewhere?

That’s all I’m considering. Honorable people don’t up and quit because of a little adversity. If he knew he was going to leave, he should have done so as soon as he graduated. Instead, he wastes a bunch of time and creates a bunch of unnecessary drama because he’s a widdle fwustwated.

            *sniffle*

          • I will give him credit for at least running away before the camp rosters were set. That would have been double shitty. But then… he couldn’t have taken away a ship from a walk-on at Fresno if he hadn’t hurried.

          • Yeah MM, look at your walk-ons and wonder which one feels like you stole the ship they earned.

Praise your weak god who tells you that being a chickenshit is the right thing to do.

          • We agree on a lot of stuff, you’re off base on this one, Jack. Chance to start at another D-1 school or get mind fucked by GA and his court of idiots. Simple choice.

          • Very simple choice. Anyone who wouldn’t make that switch is a fool, honestly.
Jack is the one who sounds like a jilted lover.

I wish he was still here. I liked him. I backed him.

            He shat on me.

            He can go to hell.

            Belay my last.

Sounds like a HS love poem.
My stance isn’t even about McM except to show how inept GA is with QBs and hopefully get people to see that, admit it, talk about it, and ultimately get the media to wake up and call GA out. I really don’t care about McM other than he was a great teammate and the best choice for the job. This nonsense about caring about walk-ons at Fresno, honor, nobility, etc is all posturing.

          • We agree on a lot of stuff, you’re off base on this one, Jack. Chance to start at another D-1 school or get mind fucked by GA and his court of idiots. Simple choice.

I don’t disagree with the idea, per se. But someone with integrity would have known all that you guys are wildly imagining and left as soon as he had the chance. Instead, he pretended to be a leader and a teammate when in reality he was just a chickenshit poser.

  49. went to the game. Shocked at the vast stretches of the stadium either (1) occupied by Husky faithful or (2) empty. That’s got to be hard to ignore from the suites. I left with a minute to go in the third quarter, which, I guess, is some reflection of progress because I left at halftime of the last two Husky games in Corvallis.

Defense has definitely improved. Portland State moved at will against them but one of the top teams in the country took a while to get it going.

What can be said about the offense. The DG I thought we’d see (by keeping a few on the option) didn’t show up, Huskies had only to pile on our RB’s because sure as hell our passing game isn’t going to keep them honest.

It’s frustrating to run a read option with Luton, who doesn’t “read” because he’s inclined to pass and then not terribly well, and then DG, who doesn’t read, probably because he’s been told not to for fear of getting injured and forcing use of our third string QB.

    • I stayed for the whole game. I paid for it. I might as well get my money’s worth.

It was odd… the play calling. We finally had a reason to run play-action, but we didn’t. Most of our 3rd down attempts were manageable down and distance and sucking the D into the box, but we ran very little misdirection.

  50. I wish 3M was still here. I liked him last year, and I would have been happy starting him after Luton was mediocre for the first couple games. Certainly would love to have him right about now.

That being said, I don’t think this season would look substantially different with 3M at the helm from game 1. Maybe we’re more competitive, but I don’t think we pick up any extra wins. 3M may be better than Luton, but he’s not good enough to overcome the disaster which is our offensive identity / schematics / game planning / playcalling. In other words, he’s not good enough to overcome McGiven. And I don’t say that as a knock on him. I don’t think Kellen Moore would be good enough to overcome McGiven. Our offensive staff absolutely doesn’t have a clue.

As an aside, I’m glad 3M is doing well at Fresno. But I don’t think we will learn anything from that success that would reflect what this year could have been for us. I suppose we can kill the “noodle arm” moniker if he keeps making some good throws. But even aside from the low level of competition, 3M has a competent offensive staff with proven success and OSU’s QBs do not. That’s the difference.

    • I hope what the media can learn is GA botches QBs, and they start asking questions. That’s the best I can hope for from the McM situation.

If GA owned up to what he did and learned from it, it’s his one get out of jail free pass, but until he does he’s in AB prison. Can’t have a head coach who doesn’t use a merit system and messes up the most important position on the field.

Yes, the coaches are really bad. Never liked any of them. I actually like Baldwin the best, and he was demoted for no reason other than GA gifted him Seth. That’s like getting coal for Christmas.

With Baldwin at OC and McM at QB I think we have at least 2 wins right now. So many things would be different in a positive way that the synergy would create at least one extra win. Of course I can’t prove that and nobody will prove any conjecture. It’s a belief on watching a lot of football, playing sports most of my life, studying biology/synergy, and psychology.

      • I agree with that. Would like to see Baldwin take over as interim OC. There’s no way he’s worse than what we have, and maybe he turns out pretty decent.

      • With Baldwin at OC and my grandmother at QB, we could have four wins right now.

I don’t think you understand how bad McGiven really is. Even if MM wasn’t a chickenshit pussy who ran away, he would end up first starting then getting broken because McGiven is that bad.

      • Did it ever dawn on you the maybe GA treated MMM the same way he treated LDR?

‘Say Marcus, Just want to let you know you’ll never play another down for the Beavers. Have a nice practice.’

I would want to go where I had a chance to play.. Wanting to play has nothing to do with being a chickenshit, coward.

        • Is that what was said verbatim?

I highly doubt it. That’s A@A type dumb. No coach is going to tell anyone they will never play for their team if they are still on their roster. Maybe LDR was told the truth, that he’s walk-on quality, and he’ll be running the practice squad. The jist of that comes through to him as, “You’ll never ever play football for this team… EVER!!!!”

MM probably got told he was barely beat out by Luton, and let’s see if he can be worked into the scheme. Then him being a chickenshit loser probably mouthed off, after which he was told, “Fine, you’re now third string.” Then he quit and ran away.

That’s as likely a scenario as GA saying those exact words.
