  1. Angry Muppet 45, #HallOut 20

I’m sad there won’t be any Riley Huskerfreude next year. How will we take our minds off the crappy beaver football?

  2. Khalil Tate runs wild, ‘Cats hang at least 60 on the Beavs tonight. This one will be decided before halftime. Beavs will get a couple of garbage time scores. 63-20

    • Yeeesh, did you get some inside information that Banker stopped by as a “consultant” this past week to advise the Beavers on how to handle a mobile QB?

    • Hey Whiskey….do me a favor next time you post to OregonLive, let Fanno66 know that John Canzano had me banned from Oregon Live because I exposed his radio program’s sponsored support by the DolphinII Strip Club. JC also blocked me on Twitter too. Apparently, JC can’t handle the criticism even when it’s justified and based on fact. Thanks.

  3. Darrell Targets in goes crazy and has the game of his life, playing close to home in nearly his final game. Beavs follow his lead and play their best offensive game of the season. Arizona still rolls the Beavs.
    Arizona 56, Oregon State 24

  4. 45-20 Arizona. #HallOut

Over by 5 minutes into the 3rd. Tate runs wild and also throws for more yards than Garretson.
Leach sends Barnes a copy of Swing Your Sword for inspiration on his coaching hire.

  5. I’m taking this as a surprise OSU win, making Hall the front runner of our awful alleged HC options. Why not?

    OSU 38 Arizona 31

  6. Found it.

TD Arizona right as I tuned in! This is going to be unwatchable.

Maybe if Moran plays at QB or something like that it’s watchable. What are the odds? I’d put them at sub 1%. So why the fuck am I watching this shit?

    • Tate is obviously very talented, but you can tell he was visibly upset when Rich Rod called a passing play(which he ended up keeping anyway and scrambling for 25 yards)
Seems to know he’s the 1 man show down there at arizona. Wonder if the rest of the team likes that?

      • There is risk to this approach by AZ though. Not that I wish injuries on anyone, but if Tate gets injured they’re a pretty forgettable, beatable team.

  7. Tate keeps the ball on most plays. Gets a couple of 1st downs.
Makes a mid range pass and 2 more runs later, Arizona gets the first rd. Pretty easy to score on the Beavs.

    • They’re hiding from Arizona’s defense like they’re playing Alabama or some shit. Fucking run it right at them. Hall looked like he was yelling at the coaches.

  8. Danni snaps a terrible ball. Careers in can often be seen reaching across to his right just to corral the snap. The play is already broken before it gets started.

    • He was in during that ankle-level snap, probably was a running play for him.

Love the multiple arm-tackles on that TD run. Nice work guys.

  9. Tate at around 100 yards rushing in 1st quarter. Announcers saging this has been way too easy for UA. Asking out loud if this is a game Tate runs for 400 to put himself back among the leaders in the Heisman race. Lol Beavers. Barnes has his work cut out for him.

    • This is somewhat of a “showcase” game for him…light it up against a bad team in a decent west coast time slot. If not for Tate, I bet this game wouldn’t be on where it is/

    • The former coach, a former center, fields a P5 team without a viable center. Is there one the depth chart for next year? Is it being recruited this year?

  10. So has Barnes given up on Norvell? Would be a reasonable option also. If Tennessee got Gruden and Arky got Miles then there could be a shot for OSU to nab him if they actually tried to.

  11. That was just pathetic. Anyone blame Anderson for bolting? I mean this is like 90% his fault, but at least he escaped with a shred of his sanity. It is insane how we can’t scheme/execute to beat a fucking running QB that can barely throw. Dude is just running our guys over.

  12. Just crazy… caught a break with pick to stay in game, can’t make any mistakes, that 3rd down was insane call…. run twice should be plan…. punting is absurd… could easily not be dead yet if we converted that

  13. Hall better receive offers from other schools. To be that enthusiastic and passionate with such shit players who give shit effort is incredible. Shit players, shit facilities, shit athletic department… yet here he is giving 100% every game.

Guy will never win a football game at OSU but he is a big winner in my book. Get out of Corvallis Mr. Hall

  14. What the fuck am I watching?

Arizona vs some high school team from Oregon?

Hall sure does look defeated. Players are only “tackling” if someone happens to run into them. I’d call it more like standing in space and falling if someone runs into you.

  15. Hopefully this wakes up all those people who wanted Hall to be the coach.

We were lucky that we get to see so many games from our interim coach. It allows people to realize it’d be a disaster to keep him.

  16. These announcers trying to come up with half time adjustments. Haha.
“Blow up the locker room, use stem cells to create clones of the early 2000 Baltimore Ravens”

          • Agreed.

I think with the team just giving up today they go for Frost 100%. I think they pay through the nose for it while also paying Panini’s and Riley’s buyouts.

I don’t see any other options for them, which is half their problem. Miles would be a great fit there. But I think they’re so stuck on the fresh-faced Frost that they can’t see his value. Arky will be the same way. They may get him just because they don’t get Norvell.

    • It’s not that he won’t come. It’s that he won’t even be asked.

And neither will any other decent prospects.

We have a need t pick low hanging fruit around here, so long as it’s cheap.

    • Alot of the jobs he has some chance for would be in SEC West again where he has same Alabama problem and higher pressure to produce more wins. Arky is a tough place to win just like OSU can ne but at Oregon State he could get a full 5 years without high pressure. Arky would only pay a liitle more if they even want a 64 year old coach. Most of the SEC programs are reluctant to go that old.

3.3 million a year in the Pac-12 for a retirement 16.5 million and some incentives isn’t a bad gig. Oregon is very beatable right now so he has chance to garner some positive attention. Beat WSU too and teams like Cal and OSU would be capable of climbing in the North into a much more interesting team. Barnes would have to be all in but for 5 years it should make OSU a respected team again and put an end to the joke the program has become.

  17. The centerline temperature of a uranium dioxide pellet in a pressurized water reactor is about 1400 degrees Celsius during normal operations.

Oh and Tate just boat-raced our secondary.

  18. I turned it off, can they just forfeit the remaining games? The staff doesn’t care, the kids don’t care. Honestly, in all my years watching the Beavs (since petibone was coach) this is the worst team of them all. It’s gonna take a miracle to get this thing turned around…

    • Again, we literally played against half of their scout team, mostly their D. This is what we looked like against them last year, except the sides were flipped.

        • That doesn’t mean half their D starters (literally) weren’t on the scout team to start the year.

There’s a reason Rich Rod wasn’t fired after last season. It’s that even their most rabid fans said, “Yeah, we got nuthin’ healthy and playing. Can’t blame the coach for that.”

  19. I like how the commentators are saying that the Beavers need to recruit California and the Northwest. Well no shit, but they forget to realize that most of the quality recruits from Seattle and Portland go to Univ of Washington.

  20. I think the only guy who might be happy about tonight’s game is Barnes. Pressure is off about having to hire Hall and now he’s a free agent again. He’s got two weeks to get it done. I wonder how many players on D signed that Hallin petition?

  21. So we are losing by 28 at half then are only down 21 with 3 minutes left. If we would have run this offense the whole game we are in it. Until gerretson throws that dumb pick.

      • Honestly I was not impressed with either team nor McMarysuck. Threw 2 picks in the 2nd half and let a shitty Hawaii team back in the game. Not that it matters. McMaryquitter is no longer here and in a few more weeks the turds get flushed and we start over.

Nick Rolovich must have been schooled at the Gum Chewer 2 minute drill for dummies academy.

        • Rolo has been a disappointment. He’s a great football mind… and one helluva nice guy.

I think he got the head job a year or two early. He will do better on his next go around.

You weren’t supposed to be impressed by Fresno v. Hawai’i. It’s Fresno v. Hawai’i. The better of the two are further away from beating UW than we are.

  22. Yeah villlamin, and Arnold will be the biggest addition by subtractions ever. They both had a lot of potential; but have become softer and softer.

I wonder how much of the old Riley era still holds this team down honestly. That plus ga ridiculous use of qb. I really do think a good detailed coach could come in and make us a bowl team year one.

      • O line should be good, depending on what kind of O the next coach wants to run. If we’re a spread O with all the bells and whistles, it really doesn’t matter. We’ll win enough to be second through fourth in our division and go bowling in Vegas… in a good year. Our D will suck. But our O will score some points while we lose.

        Yay!

I can tell you one thing. No coach who commits to the pass will ever have trenchers on the D side worth anything. There’s just something about the aura of a coach when he goes all soft. Riley went that way when Chryst left, and even more so when Gilstrap died. GA got a little juice with his words early. But the team’s actions spoke to the weak-assed O we were running in practice.

That’s the way football works nowadays. You want to run this newfangled O with all the bells and whistles?

Your D is going to suck against power.

But you’re in luck. For some odd reason, most moron coaches want to dismiss power for this newfangled O.

        • For once I will agree with you. No more spread. It’s not something OSU can compete with recruiting wise in the Pac. I want Stanford lite. Ground and pound that motherfucker. With the way the college football world is these days I think it’s the only way OSU can compete in the spread happy Pac-12. Do something different most other programs aren’t. Either that or drop down to the Mountain West and well, that idea got shit all over a few months ago.

I remain unconvinced that this administration is committed to winning. Either that or they are just clueless on how to build a winning program.

          Prove me wrong Ed Ray

          • It’s just who we are. We’re not USC or Stanford. We’re more like the Raiders, winning big when the personnel are just a little closer to the talent accumulated at places like USC. And you’re going to feel it for weeks after you play us.

We haven’t been that way since this blog began. Hell, it’s why this blog began.

angry says he’ll shut it down when we win a Rose Bowl (or just go to one?). I’m guessing he’s seeing a profit now since he’s gone all illogical with this QB crap and capitulating for Baldwin as a head coach. Profit does strange things to the logic train.

      • Let’s remember some obscure guy who might have caught a pass one day, because that’s important.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is a “builder” who doesn’t pay his trades… in fact, he sues them to not pay them.

It’s all in the public record, and anyone who thinks this pretend man is anything resembling you is a person with such a low self-esteem that I pity you… and so does anyone… because you’re a moron.

Tax cuts don’t apply to teachers after they spend more than $250 on their students. But the rich get their cut.

That Donald fuck, he’s not just another fuck.

        Suckers!

          • Who said I’m not getting tax breaks?

            Galore.

But teachers who spend more than $250 to supplement the materials they don’t get for their classrooms, because Americans are selfish shits who don’t understand that a well educated populace benefits them in so many ways beyond their pocketbooks, no longer get to claim that spending.

That’s how much the GOP and especially Dumbshit Don, the pretend man who literally sued hard-working Americans so he doesn’t have to pay them for the hard work they did for him and also pad off other hard-working Americans because he created a sham of a university that just stole money from them, cares about hard-working Americans.

But hey… if you own stocks (not IRAs or 401Ks… because those people own zero stocks and will lose their shirts) you’re golden.

          • I should clarify.

While I can claim all income as incorporated, I will not get as big a break as international corporations will get. I also have zero assets offshore so I can avoid paying taxes like everyone else does. So I won’t be getting those breaks either. However, I will get a lot of that money in the form of dividends and revaluations due to buy-backs. That’s where all the offshore money will go once it’s repatriated, and I’m positioned nicely to receive a lot of it for myself.

I won’t gain much from doing away with the inheritance tax. My parents’ estate is worth more than $5.5m, but split among their children and grandchildren will make it less than $5.5m per gift. I never understood the dislike for this tax. It’s not like I earned their wealth. It’s simply a windfall to me. The oft-cited family farm/small business scenario is pretty much bunk. But whatever.
            https://www.cbpp.org/research/federal-tax/ten-facts-you-should-know-about-the-federal-estate-tax

Getting rid of the AMT would help, as would claiming pass-through status (as mentioned above). But I have to look a little closer at the language on this. It looks like I can only claim the lower rate on 30% of that income.

It would be a typical GOP move to shit on small businesses like this.

I don’t hold any mortgages over $500k. I don’t have any future college expenses or owe anything in terms of debt from when the kids went to school. So I don’t lose those credits and exemptions. I will have to consult my CPA about how capping SALT deductions will affect my business.

The loss of that plus not having a mortgage on my primary residence means charitable itemizations are worthless.

Crap… you may be right. Upper middle class will have to pay more. The only way to pay less is to become a global corporation. I may just have to retire and let my employees go. I imagine a lot of small businesses will have to do the same.

          • I’ve done no research on the inheritance tax because my mom and my uncle pretty much blew all of my grandparents investment money but at first glance it seems like bullshit to me because that money was already earned and taxed by my grandfather. He could have taken it out in the back yard and burned it but he chose to give it to his kids instead. Either way, it’s his to do what he wished and the government already got their slice. Why am I wrong?

          • If you get less than $5.5m (or $11m as a married couple), you don’t pay any taxes on that windfall. Even people who are gifted more than that have a ton of loopholes to avoid paying much of the tax anyway.

But when someone dies, they sort of don’t get to do anything with anything anymore, not as they please, not as they don’t please. They’re sort of dead. Gifting it to heirs while alive is doing with it as one pleases. Hording it until death then parceling it to people who did nothing to earn it isn’t doing as one pleases.

Besides, why do you care? This is a tax that 80% of the 1%ers don’t even pay. Boo hoo! The kid with affluenza only gets $60m instead of the $100m left to him. That’s not enough to surgically remove the silver spoon from his ass.

      • He doesn’t really think that.

He’s just being a turd because he knows that illogical track bugs people like me. It’s a troll with a guaranteed response for him.

If he cared about the subject, he wouldn’t have painted him in such a bad light just to create the narrative he created.

      • Fresno is better off with McM and that’s a fact! Look he’s proving to be a solid MW QB and I always thought he was a great kid. I firmly believe he’s a better QB than DG, but that would not have necessarily made Beavers any better. And he was run off by GA, he didn’t fucking quit. It sounds like the team is happy for him. They seem to understand that he escaped the bat shit crazy one. More power to him.

        • Everything except that he was run off is true.

He’s an adult who made a life decision that was best for him. He made that decision by and for himself. More power to him.

But if you insist his hand was forced, you take all that empowerment you ascribe to him away.

That creates a narrative in which he is no longer an adult capable of making life decisions based on anything but emotion and entitlement. You make him out to be something counter to what you would have him be.

          • Use whatever term you want, if you don’t like “run off”. The way GA handled it (surprise, surprise) gave McM no good options at OSU. And no Jack, being a third string QB was not an acceptable option, no matter how you want to spin his “selfishness”. Look this debate is getting ponderous, read the article, I choose to believe McM is being truthful. Great kid, great decision. Given his OSU teammates still love him, I don’t think your narrative is accurate. We’ve both said the same thing stated different ways 15 times to each other. Stalemate.

          • He chose to leave. Nobody ran him off. He made a decision for and by himself. I’m sorry you can’t see him for an adult who knows how to make decisions.

If you want to create the narrative that he’s an entitled brat just to forward the idea that he was run off, that’s on you. Then you don’t get to complain when I take your narrative and run it to its conclusion.

          • … read the article, I choose to believe McM is being truthful.

He didn’t say he was run off. He said he made a tough decision. He intimated it was because of entitlement. But so what? Once he made the decision to leave, he’s not a part of the team anymore. He said the decision he made for himself was supported by GA and teammates. That’s because it was his decision, not some dastardly passive aggressive gotcha that was known to have the result it had.

There’s no need to create whole fallacies about his non-existence on the team being anything but his decision alone, or ones that he’s somehow better than he is and would have altered the course of our season by his marginal talent difference. Creating whole cloth fallacies like that leave your narratives open to other fallacies, because if one makes sense they all make sense.

          • McM tried to stay, GA dicked him over a 3rd time so he left, then GA went insane and
            quit. The end.

I thought it was a fourth or fifth time. Are we now dialing that back? So now it’s only a “fool me thrice” narrative?

  23. I was gonna say the same thing. No doubt he is good, but this coaching staff. I mean the qb guru mcgiven? Does his track record not speak for itself. Heisman Heisman Heisman especially as the beavs qb coach/oc.

I honestly don’t like messing with real people’s livelihoods, but seriously. Our qb has been a disaster in so so many ways since ga and mcgiven have been in charge…. I should have changed my profession and found an in as a qb coach and I honestly could do so much better.

Whatever, it is what it is, I just hope we don’t go with smith. Lea miles would be a great fit

    • I should have changed my profession and found an in as a qb coach and I honestly could do so much better.

Salaries for coaches back in the day were in line with other school employees. If they were different then, I would also have become some meathead hack earning a quarter-million (or more) per year for doing essentially nothing.

This will be a part of the downfall of college football and hoops. I think the bubble is a little harder to peg since the labor is undervalued.

  24. And if you follow politics, you now know that Donald Trump is a Chinese apologist at best.

That’s the best you can say about the fart of a man people pretend is a solid being.

      • I love that he literally gives anyone the confidence that they too can be POTUS one day. I mean, if a schlub of a pretend man like that moron groper can become POTUS, so can any one of my dogs.

        • If someone so abjectly entitled, so borne of daddy’s money and racism, can become POTUS, so can my turds.

You have to love that someone so devoid of morals has that position, because now half the prison populace can feel good about itself.

You have to love that someone so stupid has that position, because now we know that education really isn’t that important.

You have to love that someone with such poor taste has that position, because now we know that class has nothing to do with our lots in life.

You have to love that someone from the Hollywood elites finally broke into the office of POTUS… well… a second person from the Hollywood elites.

          • Shut up, Jack! You’re turning from a shitball to a complete idiot.

BTW – I don’t need to prove it, you do that with 75% of your posts. All we need to do is read them…unfortunately.

          • Awww….

Is snowflake upset because their POTUS is a scum-sucking fraud who laundered money for international human traffickers, gun runners and drug kings? Does snowflake not like that Dumbshit Don’s newly found religulous lexicon is just a con? Does snowflake think American investors stopped doing business with Dumbshit Don because he’s just a chiseler and a fraud?

            Poor snowflake.

          • Sure.

You name what you want proven, and I’ll provide it. The money laundering won’t be solvable on my level, obviously. But I can provide proof of several coincidental financial dealings with a number of foreign entities (not just Russian mafia and oligarchs) who are currently being exposed in their own countries as frauds, money launderers, self-dealers and just plain old corrupt actors. If you believe numerous coincidences don’t tell any story of nefarious dealings, then the best you can call him is a dumbshit. I call him that because I’ve read many depositions in lawsuits he brought to apparently waste the court’s time. Here’s one yu can peruse.
            https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/2430267/trumps-lawsuit-on-net-worth.pdf

What a fucking dumbshit liar. Other depositions are way worse. It would be hilarious if I didn’t get so angry when I figured out losers like this pretend man clog up the court system because they think life is all about perception. Other lawsuits brought against him also clog up the courts. But those are because he’s a chiseler.
            https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-01-05/trump-s-dc-hotel-tagged-with-5-million-in-unpaid-worker-liens

What a loser. What do we call people who don’t pay their bills? Is loser good enough for now? He’s done this on every project since forever. So it’s no surprise to find this with minimal research.

Or maybe you need proof of Daddy Fred the racist and the little bone spur of an offspring who doesn’t fall far from the racist tree.
            http://apps.frontline.org/clinton-trump-keys-to-their-characters/pdf/trump-fha-complaint.pdf

There’s so much out there on this guy that anyone who claims they don’t know what a giant turd he is has to have just climbed out from under a rock. So just ask for proof of any one thing, and I’ll go do the hard work of using the google machine to find all sorts of fun facts. I’ll just leave this story of Old Bone Spur the idolater for anyone to read. It’s not definitive proof of anything more than Dumbsht Don’s noticeable use of a religulous lexicon.
            https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2017/01/27/christians-dont-be-fooled-trump-has-deep-religious-convictions/

  25. The worst part of the game was repeatedly having to hear how tough it is to recruit to Corvallis, how tough the job is, how we can only expect Taggart’s recruiting leftovers in the state of Oregon, blah, blah, blah.

    • If Barnes was really worth all the money we are paying him, he’d be giving those announcers personal phone calls and giving an earful, as well as espn and any other tree he could shake up.

      • Then perhaps we should be giving Barnes an earful. NFL background is on and I overheard one of the announcers commenting on retread coaches in the NFL – get fired, go to another team, yadda, yadda, but the Rams took a chance on a 31-year old coach who, so far, is doing well. Although last night’s game was overall terrible, there was more adjustment at halftime than I can recall with either Riley or Andersen.

        • NFL is quite a bit different than college because you’re dealing with professionals on all levels.

That being said, hiring McVay wasn’t a huge leap in faith. His age doesn’t belie his experience and success up to now. He is an example of how making coaching a serious career choice out of college can benefit someone.

I’m just amazed he can win with such an obviously bad QB.

  26. jax!!!!! Serious question, why do you only talk shit about McM? I never hear you call the other QB’s “pussies” or “quitters” for leaving. What about our whole coaching staff, they quit other places to come here. Is Tyner a pussy too, what about Hudson and T. Johnson?? They all quit too, according to you, why would we let quitters on the team? 1-9 jaxass but I guess you like losing and being a closet duck fan.

    • I’m not the one talking shit about MM. You are doing so by insisting he quit because he’s an entitled brat.

I don’t care what he does once he quit. He chose to do so for his own reasons. His own reasons obviously conflicted with the idea that he was a teammate who was committed to his team once he showed up for fall camp.

      I can let it go.

      You can’t.

      I don’t bring him up.

      You do.

Your narrative requires that he’s an entitled brat who quit on his team, but you pretend he’s some great player he isn’t because he’s playing in some watered down shit conference with much lesser talent.

Again, I don’t care about him so long as you don’t bring him up. But if you insist on trolling the blog with the imaginary greatness of someone who quit on his team, I’m obliged to call out that garbage.

I think that’s why the garbage is spewed in the first place. I think you think it’s funny to make a joke out of MM by constantly pretending his quitting is something to praise. He’s your joke, not mine. I don’t bring him up, reminding everyone that he quit on our team after pretending to be committed to them, but claiming that he’s some kind of great because his entitlement led him and him alone to make that decision.

      You do that.

Stop doing it, and your narrative of MM as a joke goes away.

        • No, I don’t.

In fact, you’re the one who continues to bring it up. You can imagine all you want how your narrative is something that makes MM someone to admire. It doesn’t. You make him the fool for your own selfish reasons.

That’s no lie, you spurious little mind.

  27. Well, the team was finally exposed for what it is.

There’s a reason why teams go 1-9; if they have a bad game against a decent team, this typically is the result.

I admire & support Coach Hall’s passion — he is completely dedicated to the game — and I realize that he was placed in a very difficult situation in the middle of the season.

Unfortunately, we will need a hard reset of some kind.

  28. Blog update: added an “ignore” feature for testing. Little x next to the users name. The idea is you can see they posted even if they’re on your ignore list, but the text won’t show. Let me know if you dig.

  29. Yet again I want to thank bobbyD for the hires he made while getting paid big bucks by OSU. I guess that means I should also be thanking dr. ray for letting that dick head be AD for so long.

    Thanks a lot you ass-holes!

  30. Hey Angry, any chance we can get a filter on the ignore button. Jack’s basketball comments are great but the rest of his posts wouldn’t be out of place with the product we put on the football field. Worst time of year to filter jack, just when he is going to become relevant.

  31. So there’s apparently a choice that needs to be made at center.

Either it’s basketball head that is too small to play the position and gets blown off the ball every snap, but he delivers the snap on target…

…or it’s Yanni that can’t snap his way out of a wet paper bag and pretty well fucks the timing of every play, and is still only marginally better at blocking.

I will give DG props for doing a great job corralling some really shitty snaps.

    • DG spent most of the game fielding snaps that were less than two feet off the ground, deserves props indeed! Would going under center be the best move now?

The RB often lost a couple steps waiting for DG to come up with the ball and make the handoff, steps that would have put him into the gap early.

Not to be forgotten is Yanni being flagged for being ineligible downfield on a long pass completion.

Gary Andersen played the position, seems like he could have developed a better option at center. Of course, it seems like he could have done a lot of things.

      • GA was a scrub walk on so he spent his coaching time making snap decisions and being a dick to quarterbacks.

And I agree with Jack, either under center or pistol formation from here on out.

Pistol with a direct snap to Nall would be a nice wrinkle. Arizona basically runs a wildcat offense, Tate throws a football about like any other kid that grew up playing catch in the street.

  32. How do get rid of Banker and get WORSE on defense? That is elite coaching.

Looks like the stake though heart of the Mike Riley experiment in the heartland was the beatdown yesterday.
Most heard comments yesterday from Husker fans:
    What’s with Oregon State flag?
The worst coached Neb team in the modern era.
He is such a nice guy. We really hoped he would do better.
Danny L is a lousy OC. Wants to throw every down.
Cav. Is the worst fucking OL coach we have ever had. A disgrace to our history. My favorite!

I made sure tell them about my Beaver background and politely thanked them for hiring Riley.

FWIW, most of the folks I talked to want Scott Frost, but don’t think he will take the job if offered.
He was really savaged when he left the state to play for Stanford, and then again his first year because he was not Tommy Frazier and had the audacity to lose a game as the starting QB.
The overwhelming prediction was Les Miles.

  33. Sounds like the media and most on this board have come around to my stance on Hall. He’s not going to be the coach next year and probably not on the staff at all.

But I still think they have a shot in the next two games.

For the ASU game, the team has played better at home under Hall. There were no significant injuries or suspensions in the arizona game. The weather should help the Beavs. Lots of cold and rain will keep the ball on the ground.

For the civil war, it’ll depend on Herbert. Ducks are pretty one dimensional if he’s not playing. It’ll be a similar game to Stanford.

    • Media has seized upon Hall’s remarks postgame, pushing the “discord among defensive coaches” theme. Hall will learn to choose his words more carefully; right now he is too straightforward at times. A sign of the combination of inexperience and enthusiasm I believe.

The next two games are winnable. I’ll buy your weather/home field points vs ASU and, as for the CW, some are placing too much importance on Herbert’s availability. He never has been a top notch QB and, if he returns, seems to me he will have a rusty body and demons in his head.

      • Does it really matter what Hall says at this point? At least his passion shows he cares. Also, he is the HC. What’s his responsibility/accountablity for things like the defense “not lining up right”. Could he not have noticed that in practice and asked Clune what the fuck he was doing? Why was it a surprise that it happened during the game. In the end, Tate did what he has done against almost every team. This result was not unexpected. I mean if Hall really believes that Clune was the reason, then fire his ass now and take over as DC, it’s just two games and they are all going to be gone anyway.

        • It may matter in this respect: the media stirring the pot on bickering among/between coaches can be a distraction and one more thing for Hall and the boys to deal with.

    • For the first time I can recall in a very very long time, we came out of the locker room at halftime having made some kind of adjustments that worked.

When was the last time that happened?

I once ran Riley’s stats regarding winning/tied/losing at the half. His record of winning games after losing at the half is really poor.

      • I posted this at 10: 12 a.m., today. “Although last night’s game was overall terrible, there was more adjustment at halftime than I can recall with either Riley or Andersen.”

        • I missed your post, but you’re correct. It was noticeable. And then it was noticeable how I couldn’t think of another game in decades where we had positive halftime adjustments.

I think there was a game against UCLA in 2007 or 2008 that went well after the half, but we still lost.

  34. All practices should be geared towards beating the Ducks at this point.

It was interesting rewatching the first half. Hall was irate about the passing play on 3rd and 1 at midfield. Garretson multiple times was frustrated about the play being relayed to him. Nall’s body language was horrible, shaking his head after each run/tackle. I wonder if Nall transfers out for a showcase year to a winning program as a grad transfer. What would he look like at Stanford or Wisconsin where they decided to run downhill with purpose?

    • I noticed that too but I was still suprised they didn’t go for it on 4th down. There is no reason for Hall to coach cautiously at this point. Then in the 2nd half he went for it on a 4th and 5 once the game was already decided.

I hope we don’t have to watch Nall playing elsewhere next year, but I share the same fear. He deserves better but I would love to see him go out as a legend at OSU.

      • Why wouldn’t he play for some terrific program as a grad student and go higher in the NFL draft? He has gotten so screwed at OSU; defense, offense, put on weight, take off weight, 3 head coaches, uncountable bad coordinator coaches. He probably can’t wait to wake up from the nightmare.

    • Pretty sure after that play they panned to Hall furious on the sideline yelling “What the fuck was that!!!!” and he wasn’t talking to any players. I commented on it when it happened, because it’s exactly what I and I’m sure most of you said at the same time. Garbage play calling.

  35. I was impressed by the end of a play in which the Arizona RB busted a big play on the reverse and even though our team was down by 21 or 28 at that point, two defenders ran the length of the field and managed to tackle him before he scored. I was impressed that they hadn’t given up FWIW.

  36. Men’s team up again tonight. Let’s see if they can continue the play from Friday.

There are some things they can get better at. Defense rotations need to be better. Bench guys need to play cleaner. More movement without the ball.

  37. A few weeks back there were rumors of heavy drinking by one or more of the coaches. Does anybody know if Clune was one of the names mentioned?

Just curious because of the sideline tension and shitty game planning we saw this weekend, especially on the Defensive side.

I remember back to an interview Brandon Sprague did with Clune back around the end of summer. One of the questions Sprague likes to ask guests is “what’s your favorite drink right now?”
Usually guests have no problem answering, but Clune avoided the question. Then, Sprague said in a subsequent show that Steve Fenk called him after the interview and asked him to lay off the alcohol questions when talking to coaches. At the time, I was thinking maybe Fenk just thought it was in appropriate to ask college coaches about alcohol in general, but I’m starting to think that Clune was a special case possibly. Might help explain why he also has looked so disheveled at times this year.

Or maybe he’s just a bad DC

  38. I was given a tip that Oregon State will announce their new head coach Monday morning, after the Civil War game(Nov 27th)

They also plan to announce they’re replacing the Oregon State fight song at the same time. Not sure if the two are related, but I was given an advanced copy of the new fight song. It’s catchy

  39. RADIO ALERT:
Mike Parker will be replaced by Ron Callan for the broadcast of the ASU football game this week. Only a temporary situation, due to minor surgery for Parker.

  40. Some of the official visitors we had slated to visit this weekend have been asked to move their visit date out to December now.
Originally Nikki Hall and Isaac Hodgins were supposed to be visiting, among others.
Sounds like there are still several JUCO guys coming this weekend however.

  41. Non Pac-12 website stream for the men’s hoops game tonight. Close the X’s, any popups, don’t install anything and let the stream load. This is one of the sites that always works for me. Whiskey will be in the house Saturday night vs Long Beach St if you want to say hello or punch me in the face.

    Go Beavs

  42. Man, a girl I knew in HS just got diagnosed with stage 4/terminal breast cancer. It is surreal to watch it play out on FB — Happy posts one day living a normal life, and then that the next day. Good reminder how little all this sports shit means. It’s surreal. Second girl from my HS to have his, and both were way too young. It’s going to be very rough when this starts happening to people closer.

Anyway, no condolences necessary it’s not about me…it’s just fucked up. Can one of the admins put up a new thread?

I’m not going to be following sports for a few days while processing this.

    • That’s a tough pill to swallow. About a year after my wife passed away from breast cancer the same thing happened to a gal I went to HS with. She was gone less than 11 months after her diagnosis. Life is cruel sometimes. It also helps one gain perspective on what is truly important.

      • It’s awful, man, sorry you had to go through it twice already and with someone so close.

Makes me hope GA is alright, too, even though he was a shitty coach. Hope it wasn’t a health problem (I was always concerned he’d get skin cancer with so much sun). There’s nothing worse than health issues.

I’ll be back by the weekend. If a mod wants to put up any thread go for it. I’m just not in the mood to write anything about sports, yet we need a new thread up.

    • Angry, a lady I used to work with….her mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which is generally a death warrant. She refused chemo and radiation and instead started taking vitamin B17 and two years later she is cancer free. You can’t buy b17 in the USA but buy it from UK or Canada. I think it’s about $40 for one month supply with no side effects….derivative of the apricot seed. It worked on pancreatic cancer so it’s worth a look….
