  1. Handles travel, budget, and other office/logistical stuff. I’ll be more worried if he hires Riley/Banker etc. This dude is just an admin, it sounds like.

  2. Maybe he can’t, and wants somebody experienced. Don’t think we will see Riley 3.0. Chill out, dude. Hate to see you on a political blog…

  3. This is probable a very smart hire. Someone who knows how Oregon State functions as a whole in terms of admin work, and probable has very little to do with Riley. But even if he did, its’ not really that big of a deal.

    • Imo, you mention someone “who knows how Oregon State function”, I see it as someone who hoarded the loser mentality of OSU. I believe that Smith should find his own path, we can assume that if you go to Riley you’ll probably get his stubborn advice.

Hey Mike, who’s a good OC?

      Mike – Danny Langsdorf

We need to move past the old staffs good or bad, there’s a good reason that no one else has poached Riley’s staff

      • “hoarded the loser mentality of OSU”

What does that even mean? I guess maybe he is okay with losing out on some flight times and is not quite as competitive on his call backs to reserve facilities because he was here when Riley was here? Really?!

I agree with Smith finding his old path. But you can’t just throw the baby out with the bath water. I think that’s exactly why Smith was a good hire, someone who knows Oregon State, wants to stay here, and wants to win. I think some of those similar people are going to be found on the old staffs, but by no means all of them, and also agree that not every position has to be Oregon State Alumni.

        • What I meant to say or am trying to express is that I believe at the end of his tenure, Riley created and fostered a defeatist loser culture and I personally believe the people surrounding him in both coaches and supporting roles probably contributed to that culture.

I am making assumptions as I’m not in the know and I do agree that maybe I’m reaching too much as this is only an admin position but I believe Riley, and those associated with Riley already gave OSU a big fuck you and don’t deserve another chance

          • Correct, and they don’t, but it’s “no big deal” because he’s just in an office, etc.
I guess people never heard the phrase “the sum of the parts”…that’s all parts, not parts you arbitrarily select as being the important ones.

          • This hire was the fastest way for Smith to get out on the road to recruit and TBH, I didn’t like the way Nyborg handled the internal staff. Smith is starting over with GA’s(grad assistants not Gary Andersen, although you could argue they are one and the same.) the entire inner staff needs to be hand picked by Smith as much as possible, but doesn’t the AD have to approve a firing and hiring of an afministrator? Generally the HC picks his own assistants, not necessarily aspects of the Athleto. Department. Right? I feel I’m in the wrong profession, sales; maybe I should go back to college and get a degree in BA Finance?

        • Essentially they will do things ‘the Riley way’ which is what they learned from Riley.

Does Riley influence admin roles? Probably not but I think that the people that have worked with him for awhile are used to doing things his way which may rub off on J Smith.

One of the things J Smith preached was building the right culture, I think those who are opposed to this and other Riley staff hires believe the culture will be permeated when you retread Riley’s folks.

  4. So funny, he’s actually a DE guy… Hired by OSU in 2001 by Barnhart – AB, get your facts straight and quit making shit up!

    • That doesn’t make him a DE guy. He was with DE for a few years, and with Riley for 1.5 decades, including a move to NE. Definitely a firmly entrenched Riley guy.

      • If someone is good at their job, and their boss gets fired after they worked in that office for 13-15 years and you had an opportunity to keep the job you’ve been doing the past 16 years? I’d say he can manage a budget and other financial roles within a football program.

  5. Angry.. Love you my dude. But you are Freaking way the FUCK out on this Riley thing bruh.

He’s not going to be OC or DC or have any power position with the team. QB coach likely is the highest rank he’d have. By that measure he would (as crazy as it sounds) be an asset. JS needs a vet on staff or at his ear to bridge the seasoning gap with other coaches around the Pac. Riley for all his flaws fits that bill. The things that limited Riles impact as a head coach ( low intensity, being too nice, not being a dominant personality etc.) actually make him good for THIS temporary role.

  6. Here’s another angle. JS has been to a few places and maybe experienced some problems in the area and he thinks to himself, “we never had a logistics problem when I was player and GA at OSU.” So he finds that guy and hires him because he believes he can give him the job and never have to worry about it again. If a guy is good at his job, especially a logistical one, who the hell cares who hired him first? If the guy is a buddy, brother, nephew, uncle, etc. then fine, rail against him. But, this seems like the kind of job you absolutely need experience in both how OSU wants it done and how the business wants thing done. I got no problem with this.

    • That’s possible. Not sure it’s probable.

All I know is that a guy who worked under Riley for 15 years and moved to NE with him is now back. The rest is speculation.

      • We can all point to a myriad of problems with the Riley regime. But, if you can show me an instance where the team had the wrong jerseys, had to spend the night at the bus station or were tripled up at the Motel 6 then I would agree with you. Indications from people that worked with him are that he’s very good at what he does. All you got is that he is infected with some sort of communicable disease. Bias works both ways.

      • And the speculation includes how he will or will not perform. And I suspect you know a lot more than your “all I know is” would indicate.

  7. Sorry if i missed it but i asked in the last thread is he a Smith hire or a Barnes hire? Just not sure who is responsible for hiring that position.

  8. AB has finally crossed over to complete foolishness – really starting to sound like a yuck fan now, trying to initiate internal strife in the Beaver fanbase with a completely harmless hire… sounds like a yuck plant to me kudos for pulling of the charade for so long!

I’m done – AB now has no redeeming value whatsoever…

  9. I’ll be a bit more sensible with this post, perhaps. The bottom line Angry, is you have no idea what you are taking about. None, Zilch, zero, not a clue. You have no idea who DVD is or what he meant to the program when he was around. DVD when I was there was an assistant, and he did EVERYTHING plus some. Best in the business. To say DVD is an asset to this program would be the understatement of the decade…. now if Bob Clifford comes back……. You can’t seem to get out of your own way right now, brah.

Simmer down a bit. Quit freaking out. You’re embarrassing yourself right now and you are single handledly negatively recruiting against the school you say you are a fan of. So do all of us a favor, and just breathe, slow deep breaths angry. It’s going to be alright.

  10. This is silly. The guy can be his own person, following job security.

And let’s remember that Riley needs to continue searching for a job. He can’t sit idly as a low-paid assistant while rocking away on his porch. That in itself should be too big a distraction to consider his hiring, let alone rehire.

      • Someone working at his level would have been professional and given proper notice. Therefore, he would be eligible for rehire.

If he chose to just leave his desk one day and never return, people within the AD would hold that against him. The claim that he is the competent at the precise job he has would also be suspect at best.

When I worked in the corporate world, one of my favorite questions to ask or answer in interviews was, “When would you be able to start?”

You can glean a ton of info about a person’s/business’ character by the answer/need.

  11. Sorry, not done yet…

It really appears AB sole purpose is to sabotage the Beaver athletic programs (no matter who is coach) and he’s done a really good job of doing it…

  12. this post likely would have made more sense in the previous thread juxtaposed amidst all those comments typified as being somehow nostalgic for the Riley era. Angry asked, appropriately, “why the nostalgia?”

Today we think of nostalgia as a kind of fondness for happier times and the “good old days,” but when the word was coined in 1688 by Swiss scholar Johannes Hofer its application was explicitly medical in nature, describing an acute and debilitating condition, or disease, closely aligned to melancholy and depression. The word’s Greek etymological roots essentially stand for the pain of being away from home. In practical terms, people under the influence of nostalgia were distracted, uninterested in their work, querulous in demeanor.

What does all this have to do with OSU football? I think both sides to this discourse are under the influence of nostalgic influences. The Riley apologists are “nostaligic” for having the hope that better times may be just around the corner, satisfied if not thankful for the fact that OSU is no longer the worst team in major college football. Those critical of this world view, whom I will call the Erickson apologists, had a glimpse of the promised land of major relevance, want a good football team and not just a “non-bad” team. Back to Hofer: “home” for Riley boosters is a different place than the “home” defined by Erickson-like success. (or for those old enough to remember, Tommy Prothro),

  13. Angry is right,

Riley is the purple gnat that once he infects (bites) anyone in the program, it is only a matter of time until the entire Beaver staff turns purple. Angry is warning us all now what will happen and it will spread within the program like this. GNAT! GNAT! GNAT!

    https://youtube/92vI4qz6EXU

  14. Yes, Angry is being aggressive about this, but I think of his posture as a form of inoculation or immunization against a catastrophic reversion to seeing the Riley approach to things as proper, as personified, literally, by people close to Riley.. I really wish some of you folks had listened to Big Red Overreaction after Nebraska games the past three years to get an unvarnished interpretation of the guy’s abilities, as they stand at present time. Note: Huskers feverishly wanted Riley to be the answer, but they weren’t nostalgic for not being the worst program in the country by winning 3 or 5 games a year, or finding deliverance at an annualized win/loss product of 7-5. Is that track record better than GA’s absolutely. But remember, the trend with late-Riley was ineluctably downward and in the opinion of at least two experts who are in the position to know (Jim Wilson and Steve Preece), Andersen left the Smith’s cupboard with more to work with than Riley left him.

    • That’s all correct.

Best to be aggressive than passive about NO RILEY or his hacks.
If you read above, the people saying DVD is a good hire are apathetic about Riley being QB/OC coach and/or friends who worked with DVD.

I have nothing against DVD, but go book flights for some other school. I assume GA’s guy got canned, and instead of bringing in fresh faces we went right back to the old clan. That is small town, regressive thinking. Living in the past, in general, is extremely unhealthy.

  15. AB, you do realize JS is more of a Riley guy than DVd is right?

Not sure what this warpath is all about but it sure seems like you are trying divide the fans here…

    • Really? You don’t know what the warpath is about? We spent 8 years fighting here to get rid of Riley, and now he’s lurking in the offing, waiting to once again have his awful, apathetic influence all over the program.

We can’t escape all Riley influence since Smith is the HC, but we have to limit/quarantine the zombie football brains. Smith and Heyward are two Riley guys I’d take because I view them more as DE guys. Not sure Heyward is ready to be a DC, and that’s what it will take to get him. I’d like to see Smith going outside of former Beavers. He seems to have no connections other than Beavers.

      • Didn’t we already know this about JS? Isn’t this one of main reasons most people were not high on hiring JS early in the process? Now we have him, so I don’t think we can do much about his zero HC experience and limited coaching contacts. He’s going to have to rely on more experienced coaches to help him out.

    • “…sure seems like you are trying divide the fans here…”
The fans are already divided; the chainsaw, the down in front group, the change/don’t change Gill are just a few examples. Angry merely provides a forum for uncensored input from both sides.

The really big division, it seems to me, revolves around expectations for Beaver Athletics. If your bar is low enough to accept the results and demeanor of today’s Mike Riley, then you’ll end up in the camp of those who think it no big deal to hire those with years of close exposure to him.

If you were disturbed by his last several years here (and noticed his failure at Neb) then you are likely to find the risk, however small, of his attitude infecting JS’s culture to be unacceptable. The imagined rewards just aren’t worth it.

Hard to blame angry for folks having different standards for athletic success.

  16. I’m not concerned that it is Riley’s guy. But it does seem kind of weak that you can’t pull somebody from the last 15 years outside of the Riley system.

I don’t think it matters, I’ve spent a lot of time around athletic departments, and the operations guys are all dirt bags (maybe I shouldn’t generalize I’ve only known 2)

  17. I don’t care if this is just an office hire, i want a fucking winner at every position. I don’t know enough to judge this guy, but the last thing I want broadcast on my resume is being associated with a losing program for a vast majority of my tenure.

  18. Tim Euhas is happy DVDizzle is back in the hizzle so at least we’ve got that going for us.

Understand the venting and frustration as the prospects of Grandpa and the goons coming back to town are concerning, but I don’t know enough about DVD to be that up in arms.

And Since when did we start giving that much creedence to paywall rumors? This happens to be a great time to try snag subscriptions. Coaching search second only to national signing day. I got offer emails for the first time in a couple years the other day, so they’re really trying to capatialize on the uncertainty.

I still have a really hard time believing Dr. Ray would let Riles anywhere close to the program after all the Brenda Tracy stuff. He was so upset and spewed out so much rhetoric there’s no way he’d sign off on a MR hire???

    • And Since when did we start giving that much creedence to paywall rumors?

This confuses me as well. The dumb has really increased since paywall rumors seeped into the general thought process here.

        • Yeah… but look at who’s doing the discussing.

Why do we have to spend days upon weeks wallowing in their shit? Let them wallow in it, and pass on the wasted effort. Once they’ve distilled it, maybe laugh at their wasted effort. But just leave what passes for reason over there for what it is.

          • I feel they try to prep/acclimate people into accepting Riley on this staff, so I feel the need to quell it.

Why they do this, I don’t know, but I think it’s because Riley = easy access for them, so they like him and want him around. Angie admitted as much on her podcast. Media disliked GA because the pay sites lost their sources and access. Anyway, I want to rile (pun intended) people up to counter that force. Someone has to do it before it’s too late and people begin to think Riley is a good idea (they’re already regurgitating that media rhetoric and saying things like “welp, not too bad an idea if he’s just an advisor”!).

    • here’s what a lot of you DVD defenders are missing. This is a trial balloon to see how a hiring of Riley or some other Lincoln ex-pats will go over. That’s why Angry, OOB, and others are kicking up a fuss about this. It’s a test case and a lot of you are failing.

  19. Remember when GA was hired and Angry lauded the hire, remarking that Andersen reminded him of himself if he was a football coach? I do because it was one of the few predictions he got right. Angry is dumber than Andersen in a bar full of ovulating cheerleaders. Don’t take him seriously, he has literally no clue what he’s talking about.

    • Hah. Everyone liked Andersen. Pull up the post a week later when I wrote the only way I could see him failing is not getting a QB…

You must feel so warm and cozy with Riley back in town.

        • You said nothing at the time, yet show up now to criticize my liking a guy who looked like a HR hire to everyone who follows college sports. Classic A@A trolling. Put your predictions in writing, then we’ll talk about who knows what.

          • You predict almost nothing. All of your “predictions” have qualifiers to say how you weren’t wrong. Jake Thompson is terrible. He pitches well. Wait til conference slate. He pitches well. Wait til post-season, finally has a bad game. SEE I TOLD YOU!!

      • I didn’t like Andersen that much from the beginning. I hated his coach speak and rhetoric. I remember it was an unpopular comment. I’ll dig it up when I’m at a computer tomorrow.

        • No need, I believe you — I remember a few people were skeptical.
Most loved the GA hire. Already admitted I was way wrong about GA, so this guy is just trolling because he’s bored in his mom’s Eugene bunker.

        • Yes, nothing like a catchy narrative to cut off the new coach before he starts. This is what you do. The loser mentality starts right here. Because JS picks a back office guy with Riley ties, he is garbage. Now if he fails you can point back to this thread and say I told you so. I didn’t realize why you wouldn’t let go of the Luton vs McMarion. Now I get it, you needed that to show your superior football mind. 3M would not have made a significant difference in this train wreck season.

There is a fine line between constructive dissent and a losing negativity that leads to victim mentality. I think this is an example of the latter. JS hasn’t even hired an OC or DC but on here the sky is falling.

          • It’s his blog, he wrote the description under the title. It’s Angry’s contrarian point of view that keeps the debates flowing. If everyone agreed that everything in OSU Athletics was perfect and rosy, then this place would get really boring.

          • Agree with most of this. I just don’t think the narrative is catchy. The hair on fire pejoratives are unnecessary. If we were hiring Canzano in any capacity, yeah, let the worst fly freely. But few lower themselves to that level for a buck.

Riley doesn’t deserve any hatred. He deserves pity… all the way to the bank. He also deserves to never be considered for any job at OSU ever again. It has nothing to do with who he is or what people think of him… or even his abilities, perceived or otherwise. It has to do with what he has done and that there are very simple consequences for very simple actions. Others associated with him are not “tainted” unless they show the same traits themselves over time.

          • For instance, I wouldn’t hire Mark Banker based on his own resume, not because he was a part of Riley’s OSU. He’s his own person, and he deserves that consideration.

An all-things-being-equal situation is the only place past associations should be considered. Some will be pro, some will be con.

The argument for the apologists is that associations make someone equal or better when they are clearly not so. And I get that angry want to make the backlash equally ridiculous in order to shock the senses. But scaring people into believing only binary positions exist is what demagogues do.

We’re just subject to follow the leader in this country. So you should probably re-check your values if you think angry’s narrative is wrong, let alone unhinged or something like that. You miss by a wide margin if you’re not true to those values in every aspect of life.

  20. “Pot meet kettle”. Let’s stop using this idiom, getting old — come up with something original, or not used in a while. Thanks,
    My Brain.

  21. “If you read above, the people saying DVD is a good hire are apathetic about Riley being QB/OC coach and/or friends who worked with DVD. ”

Funnily enough, I’m 100% against Riley being a coach at any position, yet I’m also okay (albeit a bit uneasy) with this hire. If Smith truly believes he’s the best guy for the job, then I’m for it, but if we’re just getting the band back together, I don’t see the point of hiring a Riley guy just because he’s a Riley guy.

No insider sources here, but I do wonder if Smith is being pressured by boosters who are pro-Riley to fill positions with Riley-ites, and his compromise is to put former Riley guys in the least damaging positions.

Either way, I’m 100% against Riley coming back in any capacity outside of buying tickets for a game at Reser. Can we just close the door on the Riley era and move on instead of coming back to him again and again like an abused girlfriend?

Curious angry, what would be enough degrees of separation from Riley for you? Would a guy that spent two years with Riley, but five years with another (more successful) coach after that be okay with you? Are former Riley players okay with you?

  22. Speaking as someone who once had close contact to the program. DVD is a stand-up guy and gets shit done. This was a good hire. I am 100% in agreement that moving on from Riley is appropriate. This guy is solid and professional (and not representative of the Riley crew).

Angry, you are usually in range but this was a swing and a miss. When I heard he was leaving to Nebraska I was disappointed. He cares about the athletes, keeps them in line, and makes sure that they respect the campus and it’s people. Obviously sometimes the athletes mess up but he is there behind the scenes trying to make things right. He cares about the institution and the overall growth of the athlete as a person. We should be proud he is back.

      • Solid resumes with varying programs get preferential treatment because it’s assumed the person has already learned to adapt. You also broaden your contacts, giving you an in at more places in the future.

        And sometimes people get wanderlust.

  23. JS coached Lindgren at Idaho. This looks like Smith building up his own coaching tree, not cutting branches off Riley’s.

    Here’s one take on Lindgren:

If anything, Lindgren is versatile. He played quarterback in Tom Cable’s West Coast offense at Idaho, coached a multiple pro set at NAU and learned the “pistol” offense under Mac Intyre at San Jose State.

    One premise is the same.

“We always want to strive to have a high completion percentage and get high-percentage passes to our playmakers in space,” he said. “We did that with consistent passes where the read is always the same for the quarterback, and you can use those across a lot of different formations and make it look a little more complicated for the defense than it actually is.”

    • Lindgren’s OC track record by YPG (he was co-OC every year at Colorado)

2012 SJSU- 30th (they were 80th the year before he took the job)
      2013 Colorado- 89
      2014- 40
      2015- 67
      2016- 47
      2017- 47

He has, on two occasions, turned a below average unit into an above average unit. Hasn’t had full control has the sole OC yet.

Had the highest GPA of any Idaho athlete his senior year and a degree in marketing so he should understand recruiting stuff and he’s not just a dumb jock.

          • I prefer yards per game as an indicator of offensive capability. Points are much more determined by field position, which is dependent on the defense’s performance.

Colorado’s basically been middle of the pack with him at co-OC. Not a home run hire, but he has a solid track record and JS is an OC himself, so he’ll have a lot of input.

    • ““We always want to strive to have a high completion percentage and get high-percentage passes to our playmakers in space,” he said. “We did that with consistent passes where the read is always the same for the quarterback, and you can use those across a lot of different formations and make it look a little more complicated for the defense than it actually is.”

Nice, a coach who wants to make it simple for his guys, difficult for the opponent. Almost sounds strategic. That would be refreshing.

  24. OT – Taggert met with FSU officials in Az Monday, they are reportedly at the negotiating table:

    http://www.tallahassee.com/story/sports/college/fsu/football/2017/12/02/florida-state-coaching-search-update-central/916875001/

Stay or go, I recognize it doesn’t matter much because OSU needs to take care of its own staff and program health and performance and beat the Ducks no matter who is coaching Oregon.

But the UO program instability is enjoyable. I also wouldn’t mind seeing a Taggert-free UO team lose to BASU in Vegas with about 1/4 to 1/3 of his recruits following him to Florida.

    • Interested to find out if Leavitt goes with him. Some duk fan was telling me that Leavitt would stay to be HC, which I would like to avoid.

      • Nikegon was derelict enough to hire him in the first place. I wouldn’t put it past them to do so again.

But he would just… ahem… choke.

  25. Nebraska AD/former Oregon AD Bill Moos to @tomshatelOWH on Oregon job: “As good as that program is, as soon as it fell flat, their fans left them.”

  26. Another OT. I was curious what Jimbo Fisher got at FSU, because I think Taggert and his agent will seek more than that, but clearly less than Fisher’s apparently record-setting 10- year, fully guaranteed $75M contract.

Fisher’s FSU contract was worth $46M, in 2017 he was guaranteed $5.5M, and there was this perk.

    https://projects.newsday.com/college-football-coaches-salaries-contracts/jimbo-fisher/

“Jimbo Fisher has hit the jackpot. He has left Florida State University to become the next football coach at Texas A&M, and signed the richest contract in college football history, a 10-year deal worth a reported $75 million, fully guaranteed

It is not clear yet what Fisher’s salary would be for the 2018 season. But a $7.5 million salary (his contract’s average annual value) would not only have ranked third in college football this season, it would also rank among the largest salaries for a coach in all of sports.”

    http://www.businessinsider.com/jimbo-fisher-salary-florida-state-texas-am-rank-2017-12

aTm desperate for a championship, really upped the stupid on this one.

    • The people paying the bills are finally getting the tax breaks they’ve been buying for a long time. This is how they spend their money… this and yachts and jets.

      • Don’t cry.

See if you can get an invite to East Egg so you can party on their lazy river encircling a monolithic waterfall structure and a full-service grotto bar with a pizza hearth.

        Good times!

    • Thanks for that link; a couple interesting provisions I’d like Barnes to think about:

      1) “Misc athletic-based incentives: one-year extension for a 9-win season (only allowed twice within contract)…”

      2) “Buyout if coach leaves for another coaching job: coach owes school remaining salary obligations school owes his assistant coaches”

  27. I like these early hires as it suggests that Coach Niner is hiring guys he’s comfortable with – setting his own course, not simply getting OSU alumni or “Riley guys” back in the fold.

And, with a non-Riley/non-OSU guy as the new OC, even if Riley did come back into the fold as a QB coach or something, he’d have less influence because he’ll report to Lindgren, not Niner, and Lindgren won’t put up with any gum chewing nice guy crap. Either develop QB’s into great players, or get the F out.

    • Good grief!

Did you guys not watch his intro presser? He said words. Those words have meaning.

Why does nobody listen to the words people say, anymore?

        • He did. And it was apparent when the words he said (which were pretty consistent) started to diverge from the product on the field. I kept harping about it, but it fell on deaf ears. You all were trying to make something important out of one mediocre QB getting a starting role over another mediocre QB and pointing to some mediocre football conference as proof that something hinky must be creating a battered wife and a bunch of dead soldiers under GA’s desk.

That was equally productive, but it was much less insightful.

      • “Those words have meaning. Why does nobody listen to the words people say, anymore?”

I think there are at least two dynamics at play when it comes to words and meaning:

        1) people often don’t take them at face value anymore, as we see over and over here. Somebody says one thing, another person interprets them to mean something different or assign motive to them they have no real basis assigning to what was said/written;

        2) Increasingly, NCAA coaching appears to have less integrity and commitment, with coaches bolting in the second year of multi-year contracts for bigger paydays and/or saying one thing and doing another (e.g. Andersen). This creates a lack of trust that is likely transferred to others of the profession.

In this case, I think Smith’s words should be taken at face value until HE proves otherwise.

Listening seems to become increasingly rare.

        • NCAA coaching never had any integrity or commitment. That’s why it was laughable when coaches started to complain about grad transfers.

    • If Jonathan can figure out a way to get Tyner a 6th year, get Carta-Samuels on the team, and get Craig Evans eligible, we’re gonna have a nice turnaround next year

      • True dat. I’d add AP and a decent center to the list required for a really nice turnaround.
I’m not counting on Evans at all though.

        • While true about Evans; I still think convincing him to stay even for just those 6 games is worth pursuing if I were Smith.

I’d add that convincing Nall to stick around is also important.

          • Does he have to be eligible to serve his suspension?

Can’t last season count, with the additional 6 games as “credit” for any future problems?

Man these NCAA rules are TOUGH….

    • The unknown is always better than the current QBs.

Qbs for next year as of now,
      Luton
      Moran
      Blount
      Willard

Smith and lindgren need to land at least 2 QBs, maybe three in this cycle.

Here’s how it might look next year,
      Carter Samuels
      Luton
      Willard
      Petras
Freshman QB – lindgren has a decent QB committed to Colorado or the other QB committed to uw.

Moran goes back to safety. Blount transfers or is the scout team guy. Since he’s a walk on, don’t care if he stays.

It would be nice to land a grad transfer. It’s a bridge to while the freshmen QBs redshirt. Keeps Luton off the field too.

    • Apparently a 4* pro style passer out of HS, FWIW. I think in spot duty he had some decent numbers.

That 247 sports article has some highlight video.

  28. Not much is being said about special teams. Do we know about anything going on there? In general, I thought our coverage was adequate but the specialists were on the left side of the curve.

    • “I hired the right [expletive] guys! Doing it for the kids!”

“I [expletive] fit OSU, OSU fits me! These coaches [expletive] fit OSU!”

      “Going to keep grinding!”

    • Words, from JS on hiring a staff:
From the Eggers article cited above

“It is painful if you make some wrong decisions,” said Smith, who was in California on Monday. “I’d rather be late than wrong. They have to be the right fit for this place, and they have to be elite football coaches, guys I can trust.”

  29. OT – Media talking about “favorable first impressions” of Taggart who is perceived as the front runner at FSU:

“Taggart has tap-danced around questions about his future with the Ducks. The process has frustrated Oregon supporters, according to Oregon news outlets, much like the process did with FSU fans concerning Fisher’s future.

The 41-year-old Taggart is 7-5 in his first season in Oregon after four seasons at USF, where he replaced Skip Holtz. While Taggart has deflected questions about his future, it is widely believed he would like to return to his home state.

    ….

“He seemed very personable and very easy to get along with,” Burnham said. “And he’s proven he can win.”
