  1. Please tell me that’s just a photoshop designed to troll people…

Why, oh why, do we have to keep rehiring Mike Riley over and over again?

What compromising pictures does he have of Ed Ray? Because that’s the only explanation left for why no matter how many times he spits on and abuses us, we’ll keep taking him back again.

  2. welp.

if it’s one thing the beavs know how to do well it’s screwing themselves over. is everyone taking retard pills over there? This guy ran Nebraska into the ground. Historic program, every resource at his beck and call. But sure we’ll take him. Losers.

All I can say is I hope it’s fake.

    • To be fair, none of the fans, boosters, players, nor AD bought into Riley’s message/tactics. It wasn’t “Nebraska football” so they all gave up on Riley trying to change the culture at Nebraska from a “Hard nosed” team that “Sticks it to people”. To be honest, Nebraska has lost their identity ever since Osbourne left as HC there/here(since I live in NE now). So I know what the fan base is like and can give you perspective on that out here if you all want me to give this information.

On another note, Riley has lost his edge, but not his football mind. I’ve always always thought Riley was a better assistant than HC. Riley has to conform to JSmith not the other way around. JSmith has a plan, he hasn’t voiced that plan externally with very little details given on what that will look like, but the way he’s recruiting, obviously JSmith is able to get recruits to at least listen to him. I heard Andrew Nemec on the Dusty and Cam in the morning on the 1080 the fan stream, “Expect Jonathan Smith to land 2-3 4* recruits in this class and retain about 13 or so current commits.” So he’s very high on the Jonathan Smith hire; and so am I quite frankly. I’ll give him 3 years of body of work to see if it upticks or if it fluctuates. I’m betting the former. GO BEAVS!!

  3. Not to call it fake, but doesn’t the quality of that name plate just look……cheap?
Like somebody just printed it out on their canon printer?
Don’t our coaches deserve better than that?
Also, are there others so we can see who else has been hired?

  4. The guy who tweeted it at you uses the same profile oic as an old blitzer called OSBeav2011 (or something like that)
He always talked shit about you, so maybe it’s the same guy trolling

  5. Angry, I’ll ask the same question as I did in the last thread. What does success look like for JS, 1 year, 3 year, 5 year? I clearly see the narrative that you’ve set up for JS failing. I’d like to know with your own words what a successful coach at OSU should be measured to.

      • I am all for high standards but expecting a Rose Bowl in year 5 is setting yourself up for disappointment.

As long as they are bowling most years (9 out of 10) and getting to 10 wins once every 5 years or so I will be happy. If they do that a Rose Bowl will likely happen at some point.

        • How does this not scream “Mediocrity”? This sounds like the Riley years to me. Why can’t we achieve a RB bid in 3 years? If we’re “Not that far away” like JSmith says, then it should be reasonable. Between Riley and Erickson, we were in the Fiesta Bowl within 4 years of Riley’s initial hire. We need to have a coach that’s willing to take some risks at Oregon State. You can’t win when you play it safe ALL the time.

          • He did say ten wins. Because of CCGs, we’re not going to be playing any 13 game schedules any more.

I would amend this expectation to be year 4, with potential for a run at the conference title in years 5 and 6, reload for a year or two then make the same runs.

Two cycles will provide enough data points to properly gauge 9’s ceiling… as would (obviously) a failure to create said cycles.

          • Jack, 10 wins once every 5 years. That’s our expectation after GA’s expectation was to get to 6 wins or more in year 3? I wouldn’t be surprised by year 3 or 4 we are playing for the CCG, but we still have no official word on which coaches are going to be hired and whether Hall will or won’t be retained. At this point in the game, expect Hall to not be retained is my gut feeling.

  6. Has any news agency picked up on the hiring? Has Sidd Finch spoken? I haven’t seen anything, but this (possibly) photoshopped picture. I don’t even know who Posted it.

Take a breath, and then a grain of salt…

  7. I don’t think this is real. The angle of the picture makes the nameplate tilt downward slightly to the right, but the text is level. And if you zoom in on it, there’s a bit of “noise” around the letters. Plus, if Riley does come on staff (God forbid), I don’t think he’ll be given the generic title of “Assistant Coach.”

      • Time to put up or shut up? We’ve seen media outlets confirm coaching hires.. Your “source” tells you Riley and Heyward are back. Care to back that up somehow? Disappear if wrong?

      • Like it or not, he’s got a ton of history with the program. He’s probably allowed (near) unrestricted access, seeing that it’s not football season. He is likely very good friends with some staff members. You’ve never had a friend (previous employee) stop by work and shoot the shit?

Don’t get me wrong Angry, I’m not trying to throw assdarts at you. I’m just trying to think of logical reasons why he could possibly be seen at the football center, and not be employee.

        • ^^^^Makes sense to me.
I don’t want Riley back on staff at all, consult with JS maybe.

Much more concerned with the lack of news on Heyward! Seems there should be a leak on that front by now even with ucks bowl preparation.
Also, gotta figure chances for Hall to stay are getting slimmer by the day.

      • He lives in Corvallis, he probably wants a tour of the new VFC since it was just talk when he left. I’d do the same thing if I was coming back to Corvallis and I know I’d be welcomed to walk around the offices and locker rooms and such. He helped get that going, but GA took the credit for the most part. That makes Riley humble in my book.

  8. Just throwing this out there (in an attempt to find positives).

No one questions Riley’s ability to coach QB (or probably any position), he is certainly qualified on paper.

The question seems to be his energy level.

Is it possible that by no longer having the stress of being the guy in charge that Riley could find new levels of energy to put into the job? This does happen in life where someone takes a role that has less stress but a similar workload and excels.

I’d prefer Riley be nothing more than a consultant (more based on the back up QB (coach in this case) is always the most popular guy theory) but on paper you aren’t gonna find a better QB coach.

    • Riley would be a good QB coach for some other school.

Not at OSU in this situation b/c Smith will have rough days early on and maybe even for several years, and there will be a call (by the old guard) to replace him with Riley. Very dangerous situation. The old guard isn’t sophisticated or nuanced — they don’t realize Riley caused this. They like anyone who is “one of them”, etc. It’s bad.

But yeah, Riley would be a good QB coach for many schools.

  9. Pretty sure Smith is on the road recruiting right now. Don’t think Riley’s coming back.

And any national journalist of course doesn’t know that the fans don’t want Riley back.

  10. Dear 6 lb 8 oz baby Jesus

Don’t allow Mike Riley near the program. He’s left OSU twice before, why give him another chance? I understand it’s in a different role but when will OSU stop being a mistress?

I was listening to a podcast called renegade radio and it’s by a guy who’s built a personal training business, they talked about building a culture and throwing out cancers from their gym even if it meant lost revenue or notoriety because the client is a sports star. This is the same thing, Riley will bring his loser culture with him the game has passed him by

    • LOL This post made me laugh a bit:

Thinking ahead a little bit, MR brings a first hand scouting report of tOSU and what playing in the shoe will be like.

Maybe the silver lining in GA’s final season here is, there isn’t any film of an Oregon State offense for Meyer to study from this season. Even if there was it wouldn’t matter since none of us know what the offense will be going into next year. Will it be like UW’s, like CU’s, like an MR offense, a blend of the three or something entirely different? Hahaha take that and suck it Urban.

    • Wow. There’s more delusion over there than by our resident bat shit crazy individual here. Cue the Batshit crazy Jack symbol.

They all think you’re off your rocker Angry.

Denial. Not just a river in Egypt.

  11. Why does riley live in Corvallis? I thought his retirement home was in San Angelo, TX. In fact someone posted a msg awhile back saying riley had multiple homes in San Angelo.

The thing that causes me the most concern is JS will be relying on mr as his confident with respect to decision making.

Imo Dr. Ray is a piss poor administrator. He admits he doesn’t know shit about athletics and it looks to me like he spends a lot of money hiring folks who he thinks (hopes) will take care of business so he can spend his time raising money for things other than athletics and puzzling about what to name buildings.

Speaking of all that money he’s raised…… Has OSU announced what they’re going to do with all of that?

Why doesn’t he get out there and hustle up some funds for improving the athletic facilities?

OSU in general seems to be one big cluster fuck and if I were a resident in OR I’d be asking the folks who are responsible for hires like Dr. Ray how they can allow this shit to go on.

  12. That nameplate is so old school. It’s nothing like the new ones on every other locker. Plus the perspective of the nameplate is different than the text. I can’t believe you’re actually buying into this. You’re insulting our new Head Coach before you have any real evidence that he and his staff will perform like Riley. Good luck getting that press pass now.

  13. In other OSU news – a long time professor in Veterinary Medicine was fired for sexual harrassment. The detail provided by the Oregonian is suspiciously limited:

“Denise Apperson, the student, listed her concerns: “The outright falsehoods, the misinterpretation of fundamental science, the misstatements of fact, the manufactured dramatics, all overlain with an overt creepiness.””

She may very well have a complaint, but it’s sad that someone can make a complaint like this and not provide any concrete examples – I wonder how the misinterpretation of science indicates sexual harrassment. Overt creepiness? Fuck off.

This guy probably refused to refer to animals with gender neutral pronouns.

    • For some reason that story reminded me of the “let’s steal (borrow) a ram” escapade way back when. It seems like the ram had a name but I can’t recall what it was.

      Sheep rustlers caught
      By Jennifer Nitson
      Gazette-Times reporter Mar 16, 2005
      http://www.gazettetimes.com/news/local/sheep-rustlers-caught/article_e0db4a44-c7c0-5007-8560-c3f821b429da.html

“…The ram lives at the research facility on 35th Street near Campus Way and is part of a study on homosexuality in sheep, said Sheep Center manager Tom Nichols.

It probably weighs about 200 pounds, he said, and it likely took both men to get the ram into the bed of the pickup.

“I’m sure it wasn’t an easy job,” Nichols said.

Sheep rustling, it seems, is not uncommon at OSU.

“We have at least one prank a year where we have to go to a dormitory or a sorority house and pick up a ram or a lamb or a ewe,” Nichols said. “It’s one of those springtime pranks.”

Fun and games aside, Siegert, 20, was arrested on an accusation of driving under the influence of intoxicants after failing field sobriety tests. Almost an hour and a half after being pulled over, he registered .14 percent blood-alcohol content on a breath analyzer at the county jail.

A worker from the Sheep Center retrieved the animal, and the deputy chose not to arrest anybody for taking the ram.

Coach Mike Riley is still considering Siegert’s situation and what consequences the player might face, said OSU sports information director Steve Fenk….”

    • … someone can make a complaint like this and not provide any concrete examples….

      -or-

A special committee of the school’s Faculty Senate held a two-day hearing and heard testimony from 18 witnesses. Craig also testified on his own behalf at the hearing….

      Sad, indeed.

  14. If the name tag is really is real, at least will have something to complain about to marketing and ideation:

That sure is a shitty looking name plate
