15.Aug.2012 Oregon Rumor “has legs”…

I know we're all (supposedly) sick of speculation, but a reliable guy on Rivals is saying the Register Guard has the story printed and ready to go. Sanctions will be what was reported yesterday on twitter. Ruling by week's end.

Also, more message board speculation: http://www.allbuffs.com/showthread.php/77900-Oregon-getting-hit-hard-with-NCAA-sanctions

Chip Kelly looks nervous: http://www.csnnw.com/pages/landing3?UO-Responds-to-Sanction-Rumors=1&blockID=756959&feedID=5274

I know, we'll wait to hear it from the horse's mouth. But speculating is fun in that Christmas Eve sort of way…

It amazes me how many duck fans I know that are still in complete denial. “They didn’t do anything wrong”. Then they go on and on about how USC deserved what they got. La-la land is nice this time of year.

When the rumor broke out on Twitter yesterday it was a shitstorm of duck fans (who I don’t even follow) blowing up my twitter feed (through retweets) questioning the journalistic integrity of everyone who gets paid by a media outlet.

Man, I am really looking forward to this news coming out and I hope the penalty is just as severe as the “rumors”. Twitter will be a great place to observe duck fans losing their shit. Plus you can rub it in.

It would be great but I’ll believe the rumors when it happens. No point getting your hopes up.

You all know what this means?

It means these rumors are false. But it also means some other school has done something oustandingly bad, and the news is about to break.

The guy who posted on Beaverblitz is hardly reliable. And if even he does have correct information, what kind of media outlet would hold onto a story like this? It doesn’t make sense for them to not report it if they have the information.

Sorry.. this is a re-post. I accidentally buried it in a reply in mid-stream yesterday…

Major props to BDC for the highly creative, and I’m sure effective, “Pick Three” radio advertising campaign. Be sure to budget extra time for the drive to Reser, as I’m sure this is certain to pack it to the rafters!

Seriously, the ad sounds like about 20 minutes worth of athletic department thought and $50 worth of production.

What’s next Benny Beaver twirling a sign at a busy intersection? What an embarrassing amateurish farce. JB

The Duck fan denial seems so widespread amongst them. I like to think that if it was reversed, we Beav fans would be like “that was an f’up, these sanctions are probably going to suck”.

Yeah, its just a rumor but it fits with what I expected, with Kelley being personally involved. But we will see.

I guess one good thing is that the world runs on rumor so it might hurt UO recruiting a little, even if eventually there are no sanctions.

And one bad thing will be the elevation of our milk-toast head coach, in comparison to the evil cheating at UO.

And of course the immediate good thing is the Duck fans gtetting their panties in a twist. The suicide hot line gets overloaded …. LOL!! We should pay some sports “insider” to start an even worse rumor “UO to get death penalty!..”

I read a quote from Coach Riley yesterday where he said the initial thought from the trainers is that it wouldn’t be “a long term deal. We’re hopeful it’s two weeks.”

Unfortunately, this deal is going to be long term.

I noticed in one of the recent videos the OL were not wearing knee braces.

In the past so many were wearing them I thought it was mandatory for the OL whether they needed them or not.

Were they in full gear going full blast against the defense? If so that’s a big problem.

If it was just shells then they probably wouldn’t wear them. The knee braces are there primarily to prevent knee injuries when bodies pile up. Oline men are very susceptible to getting their legs rolled up on. The braces protect against that type of injury.

The video I saw was them doing conditioning, which they wouldn’t need to wear them for that.

Everyone has lots of injuries in fall camp, it’s just the way it goes. You’ve got 100 guys, many with pre-existing physical weaknesses, playing a physical game. Go read about any other team in fall camp.

Disappointing as some of them are (namely Weinreich…) it could be much worse. No problem with any of our proven playmakers, and very little with any starters.

Your right, just feeling sorry for myself. Cal doesn’t have enough DL to run full drills can only do 7 on 7′s have to use LB’s on the line, usc been hit hard with key players too. UW lost a key player too. So its not just us.

Another reason you got recruit better, and not rely on flyers JC guys who can’t make it into school or leave (Cowdin and Hasaik)watsed schollies.

Correct. This is why I say we need, at a minimum, four OL recruits in every class. It’s better to be sitting on 14-16 players who could contribute and picking a top ten while having four or so redshirt then it is to pick a top ten from ten and have three or so redshirt… and rely on walk-ons.

SADLY I take pleasure at seeing our big brother to the south get slapped with NCAA penalties for their recruiting fouls .Why do i feel sad to take pleasure in the situation? it is because their athletic program is so much better than ours and they have beaten as up so badly over the last several years that this is the only way i can see that be can taken down a notch. We are incapable of beating them on the field . I wish i could say that i regret their sanctions but i would be lying if i did .

Big brother? Are you talking about our younger sister school in Eugene who can only really beat us in football and volleyball… and doesn’t hold a candle to us academically?

Are you talking about Duck High?

      That’s hi… larious.

Chip Smelly on the Pac12 Network, when asked whats changed since he’s got there? “That’s simple, players! Players win. I don’t care what anybody says. The teams on top have real good players.”

That is why you have to recruit better. Ask any coach that is near the top, and they will tell you its their recruits.

It’s mostly players, but UCLA has great athletes yet can’t win. Coach matters a lot. Give Riley Oregon’s roster and he wins 8 or 9 games. He doesn’t go undefeated and to a NT game, though. He’d basically be Bellotti.

I agree with you concerning players and coaches being important. Anyone who thinks good athletes can do good in football without a good head coach and staff are just ignorant. I totally disagree with you on giving MR ucks roster and he wins 8 or 9 games. The main reason that the ucks are doing so well is they have a coach, staff, athletic director and fans who actively promote wining and goals higher than a wining season or a toilet bowl.

The ucks football program is totally “pro-active”. New ideas, lots of new plays and plenty of them. They are prepared to play each game, are physically able to play 4 quarters (good conditioning program), great game plans and strive with all they have to win…….you can see the energy on the sidelines when a coach shows emotion and energy in supporting his team. Mike Riley spends the whole game chewing is stupid gum and putting on chap stick.

Bottom line is great teams, players and their coaches are the ones who have and work for high standards. They say it and mean it. And the teams fans reap the benefit of wining.

Baloney. Riley is who his players are. If his players are top of the line stars who like to win, so is he. If they’re a motley crew of hopeful youngsters and crusty walk-ons, so is he.

But he is unable to have his teams ready to begin a season regardless. He will win the conference with the conference’s best talent on his team… or even close to the best. But he’ll continue to lose in September until he starts scheduling wussy lie-down games like Nikegon does.

You are correct when you refer to Duck fans. Though you consistently spell “whining” without an “h” we get what you’re saying.
