Key to this game, IMO, is staving off any early Washington momentum. Think how the Beavs hung in the 2009 Civil War–by getting an early turnover for a TD. Same way they won the 2006 USC game. Getting early momentum. That's how inferior teams hang around and sometimes even win games. We know Washington will give their best, so early momentum could be an issue. If the Beavs withstand that I see the blowout.

I think Mannion may have his best game yet. Reason being, when you sit on the sideline that long you get a different perspective, and the game slows down. You observe someone else execute the offense, you note what they do wrong, and what you can improve. Plus you get hungry to get back out there. For all these reasons, I think Mannion will be a beast tonight.

Chat is now open, if people want to go there for the early Pac-12 games. Don't bombard this thread with comments about the Ducks. It makes it hard to navigate the thread.

  1. Gotta get to Price early and get him rattled. Guy has very little confidence right now and would hate to see him get it back today.

    • I would. Rumors are that he’s been poor this season because his line sucks and he’s getting hit so much that hes got the jitters in the pocket. If that’s true I don’t think Sark is going to draw up any plays to get him hit even more. Plus hes all they got so I doubt Sark would risk it.

  2. We had a spy in early games to guard against a running QB, have we abandoned that game plan? It just seems we are run against better than in recent games than at UCLA. It would be a spectacle if the defense and offense both brings their “A” games.

  3. Had an idea of how to take advantage of the new helmet rule to slow a team using a no huddle offense. we ve already seen defenses trying to take the helmet off offensive opponents in order to make them sit out the next play. but what about having your own defensive player who you’d like to sub out “lose” his own helmet? by rule, that player will be forced to sub out, while simultaneously delaying the next snap. it would kill the hurry up approach, and there currently arent any rules against taking your own helmet off. would be similar tactic to faking an injury which cal almost used to great success against Oregon 2 years ago.

      • No timeout needed. That player is forced to sub out which is enough time for the defense to get set and catch their breath. it would slow the time between snaps

        • I like this. Just happen to have your helmet fall off on the other side of the field and make your way to your sideline with a nice slow jog to allow subs to get in and a quick 10-15 second breather. No timeout or fake injury needed, just some manipulation of a bad rule.

          • It’s the defenses job to sub in time for the next snap. The referees don’t wait to spot the ball until substitutions are made, and the offense is under no obligation to wait to snap the ball. It would look sophomorish and reek of defeatism. Just beat the MF’ers.

          • You would love the game casters replaying our guys taking off their helmets to slow down the other team and making fun of the team, a la Cal Bears? We would look like a bunch of idiots.

  4. All games still early but Arizona is up on USC, Georgia is up on Florida, and Texas Tech is up on Kansas State. USC looks really shitty so far.

  5. does anybody know how to update your adobe flash player? i’m trying to watch games through firstrowsports on my gf’s laptop until she gets home from the duck game and they all say i need the updated flash player, but it had been working all afternoon.

  6. USC vs UA – Holy crap, why are these guys not taking a knee… there is only 15 seconds left to the half! Oh, Riley isn’t there, I forgot. LOL.

I swear if he does that tonight….

    • The backups were in for most f it. Plus I don’t blame them for running up the score it’s what I would want the Beavs to do if we kept moving backwards in the standings despite winning by 40+every week.

    • If Chip really wanted to make a statement and be a classless douche that game would’ve been 120-0. They destroy teams in a way I have rarely seen before. With they way things are shaking out, it appears we might be the best team they face all season. We just need to keep on winning and the Civil War will be a classic.

    • It’s not the Ducks’ job to keep themselves out of the end zone. No way you can tell your 2 and 3 deep to “take it easy” when they get in there.

    • I used to think Colt McCoy was a perfect sounding quaterback name…but it doesn’t even come close to Landry Jones. Dude had no choice but to be a footballer.

    • No shit. We arent exactly blowing opponents out. We need to concentrate on just winning each game.

USC losing….there goes the SOS for UO.

One announcer comment in the UA – USC game…..right near the end. 578 total yards for both teams says one, the other says….”a defensive struggle”…..lol.

  7. Hypothetically speaking of course, what if the Beavers win out? I remember the 08 Trojans were scary good and we beat them. I have heard players say they can play with anyone. If at the end of the season if the Ducks are highly rated and we beat them, would our strength of schedule jump us into 2nd place? I don’t see a really hard schedule ahead for K State. Hypothetical aside if we don’t win tonight it’s a mute point. Bo Beavs

  8. Any links to watch the game guys? I have comcast and cant get it in Minneapolis. Normal sports bars in area all have direct TV. Please help a double rodent!

  9. Such a HUGE WASTE of a timeout there. Sark is garbage.

Burning a TO to get a first down in the first minute of the game? So so SO bad.

  10. We’ll end up torching this secondary. LIke the pass protection up front. Good tackling by UW on the under routes. Need another 3 and out here!

  11. Run defense looked like absolute garbage there; DLine got penetration a few times but couldn’t make the play, and as always, our LBs were NOWHERE to be found. Haven’t even heard their names called yet.

That Poyer penalty was big too; moved them into FG range when we could have gotten the stop. Janky call, since the WR also facemasked, but still, bad sequence, and we’re lucky they only go the 3.

Offense needs to step up, and perhaps give Storm/Agnew the ball once or twice here? Gotta keep up appearances, after all…

    • This is my problem, we’ve let some pretty big runs happen in the last two games. Teams have figured out how to run on us, and Banker isn’t responding or teaching his LBs, they are making the same mistakes over and over again.

  12. So far I’ve had the game coming in reeeeeeeally choppy on my stream. Anybody having issues with the viraljet or firstrow? or is it just my terrible internet?

    • It was quite the squib Mannion threw; it was on-target, but so wabbly. Still have to catch it, but it also wasn’t some beautiful spiral.

  13. That defender was breaking so hard before the ball even left Mannion’s hand…we throw so many of those swing passes, it would be nice to see the pump and go.

  14. Run to the weak side where UW had TWO extra defenders. Sick work.

Ever notice how Mannion basically never audibles? I know most college QBs don’t, but he doesnt AT ALL.

  15. Mannion is the chosen one. He has always played with composure. He never throws a bunch of picks. He is god’s gift to the position of Quarterback. His throws are rockets. He has great awareness.

    Much, much better than Vaz.

  16. And Mannion FLOATED THAT FUCKING PASS.

Dude is throwing like absolute horseshit right now. Wabbly, soft, no power, staring down receivers. Jesus christ, Stanford 2 for UW right here.

    • Floated and got Wheaton absolutely murdered as a result.

I’d have Mannion on a short fucking leash right now, but he’s the Golden Boy so he can play like shit all game and still play. But he is killing us right now. Killing the team and individual players.

    • These douchebag announcers trying to rationalize that hit are also disgusting. Fucking disgraceful.

HEY THEY FINALLY CALLED A LB’s NAME!!! Way to join the game, guys.

  17. This is fucking pathetic.

I would LOVE it if our guys on Defense would hit these fuckers back. They just took down one of your your guys with a cheap hit. Now you’re going to turn around and let their offense pummel your ass.

    Awesome.

  18. Well, this should have been a blow out. Now it’s desperation time just to win. Gotta see if Vaz can provide a spark.

Looks like Langsdork is calling plays again, too.
Also, Kostol suddenly can’t punt. Great.

  19. This may be the beginning of the end. I have no idea how most of you (coach Joe’s ghost being an exception) predicted a blowout – perhaps it will be, but not for the Beavs. They will be lucky to win at all.

  20. WTF was that defense? No DLinemen over the tackle or TE? And then they run it right there.

    Sick fucking work Banker.

About to re-start the “Fire all the fucking coordinators” petition.

  21. “Well boys, we sure did try. By Golly Gum, I thought it was great that you didn’t respond at all when their guys tried to kill one of our top players. I love football. I need some new gum.”

  22. When one does not have a running game, one can’t hope to run play action”

Says any fan, coach, player of the game of football.

  23. Looks like we have no offensive gameplan and Mannion has just been throwin dead ducks up for grabs. As usual momentum is swinging away from us.

  24. Wow, another horrible sequence. Throw to TE, throw to TE, checkdown to RB, punt.

FUCK YOU MANNION, RIDE THE PINE!

Also, fuck you Riley for keeping him out there.

  25. Announcers just DISSECTED that horrible play action call. 50 seconds left at the 35, we aren’t actually going to run? Really?

    OH YOU SO TRICKY LANGSDOUCHE!!!

    • ?@kerryeggers We’ve likely seen all we’re going to see of Markus Wheaton. He’s still in uniform but sitting on bench with member of OSU medical staff.

  26. Wow why does it have to be this hard? Beavs love playing with their backs against the wall. Look for a new attitude in the 2nd half!

  27. I have never seen such PASSIVE, COWARDLY, UNCREATIVE, UNAGGRESSIVE play in my life.

…oh wait…I knew it would all come back to this eventually.

  28. So, first half:

Defense played pretty well considering how often they had to be on the field. Other than the second drive where Sankey picked up about 40 yards on the ground, they’ve held the running and passing game.

The offense has been completely miserable. Dropped passes, wabbly passes, Mannion gets his #1 receiver knocked out of the game, bad pass protection, and absolutely terrible play calling. Offense is just killing us.

    Looking at the bright-side now:
    1. The defense can keep us in the game a bit longer; UW isn’t explosive, and Price is prone to turnovers.
    2. Mannion looked to get better as the game went on, and had some sharp throws late.
    3. Probably won’t see 2 more picks from him, and because we get the ball back, we should have plenty of scoring opportunities.
    4. Despite playing another absolutely terrible first-half, we’re only down 10. That’s how beatable this UW team is.

  29. You guys are too emotional. Seriously, they’re down 10. Washington has gotten every bounce, and almost every call. Good guys get the ball first to start the half. Wait and see where it goes. Not all doom and gloom yet.

  30. Okay, that was Turrible

Can we still win this game? only down 10. Have to develop a different scheme on offense, they look like they know exactly what we are running (KHJ effect?). On defense I think we have settled down, but we need a better pass rush, Price just taking a huge drop and sitting back there and even then he doesn’t always throw to a receiver.

Can we pull this off? Is it a magical season?

  31. Vaz might do just as good as Mannion in the 2nd half. Boom isn’t used to the details anywhere near enough yet. Have to work hard to get first downs when you have the chance to sprint for the first. I sure hope they putb Wheaton back in. He looks good enough to play after getting a healthy breather. We will need him. You have to have dual threats to have the offense as open as it needs to be. I never got talk of a blowout. huskies always play OSU very tough. On the road against them it was more of a coin flip. Riley typically comes up just short against UW in Seattle. Hope they play much better next half. Only shot we have to turn this around and scrape out a win.

    • Reggie Dunn went Simi Kuli on the Beaver program. I don’t think he qualified and then went to JC. He has helped the Utes now and then, but never has become a dependable receiver.

      • I know. Dependable receiver or not though, we could really use a good return guy. That’s a glaring loss we haven’t filled since James went down in 2010.

  32. What happened to the fly sweep? Bringing the receiver in motion gives us so many options even if we don’t hand it to the receiver. WTF is up with the play calling? Cooks is the main playmaker on our team and there is no emphasis on getting him the ball.
