I have had a prevailing thought since the rumored Pac-16. How long before college football moves to a playoff? Now in a playoff scenario, 120 college football teams is not sustainable, otherwise we are simply left with the same 8-16 teams every year. These teams would still enter the playoff via a writer/computer poll that favors the national powers and those with money.
I think that 2016 could be the year of reckoning. Many of the large contracts end in 2016 (I also believe that the BCS contract may end thereabouts). I think that it is highly possible that many of the large programs collude to organize themselves into the "superconferences" of 16ish. Essentially the 6 auto-qualifiers reorganize to exclude the non-aqs (except for the few decent ones) to make super conferences. Once the conferences are set, the TV contracts are negotiated and a playoff is born. College football would essentially cut the fat and the lower programs would fall down a division. I think the teams that are hot at that point in time will be the ones that are preserved. Anyone think that the Beavs would be left out? Can they be in the top 64 in 5 years or will we steadily decline? I think this coming season holds about 4-5 wins for us.

I think there will be a playoff within five years.
The Beavs will remain competitive as they can recruit. The last two classes have been pretty good. Go back to 2007--it was a complete disaster of a class, and we're paying for it now.
