We signed this combo guard. Not sure what to think of his one highlight... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LkpzitZs8M

Played on the national U-18 team, so must be somewhat decent.

FIBA U18's 2010 weren't really a good place to watch individual talent. Imagine the games being a high school basketball equivalent of the Hula Bowl or the Senior Bowl.
I sent out a couple feelers to some international scouts I know. I'll get some news soon I hope.

I don't like the last name, too close to a 6'7" turnover machine that currently plays for our Beavers!

Guy must have an interesting story at least. "Charles Barton" is not a very Swedish sounding name!

His father is an American-Swede who is well known in the Euroleague as a coach. I'm waiting to hear back from him and the coach at Sanda. The kid is sounding like a steal at this point. I found the tape linked above and put together what I could from second hand reports. But that all sounds like it's going to change in the next couple days. http://orangeexpress.wordpress.com/comm ... n-jr-2011/

Averaged 17 minutes 7.7 pts shot 57% from the line, that will fit in. To average almost 8 points in just 17 minutes is good, but to shoot only 28% means that he is hoisting up a lot of shots in a small amount of time to get those points. Beavers only have one player shooting over 30% from three land, so maybe that is encouraging. The Beavers have had three point shooting Euro's in the past and they get hot for a game or two, but never seemed to have a lasting impact for whatever reasons ( I think they struggle defensively) 28% FG. (I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry)

I've corresponded with his father, and it sounds like he was being chased by a bunch of high majors since last summer. It's looking like Coach Rob was hard after Barton for reasons not apparent to us fans because US fans have so little info about the European game. And what info can be gleaned from the outlets available is inconsistent, wrong or both.
I like his game as a PG quite a bit. It's sounding more and more like Barton is a recruiting coup for the Beavs.
I have his coach's email. What questions would we like to have answered?

Specifically what schools were recruiting him? How is his son's work ethic? Does he buy into the "team" idea?

Will his very presence on the floor suck the life out of the entire team, like the Seniors he is replacing.

Will he be able to play man to man defense at the P-10 level?

He reminds me of Roberto Nelson. Probably a little faster than Roberto but the same skill set. Really good outside shooter, pretty good creator for other players. Will be interesting to see how Craig gets him involved with the offense next year. Of the guards for next year, if they don't get Guerrero or Carter, Barton and Nelson are the only ones with a real point guard skill set. Wouldn't be surprised to see Barton come in to the game to help set up Starks, Cunningham and Nelson for clean looks.
What I like about Barton, is he can space the floor and can score without having to have plays ran for him. He can create his own shot and plays under control. That has been sorely needed.
The kid clearly has talent, it will be nice to see how he develops over the course of his career.
