Just When You Thought OSU Marketing Could Only Get Better…

It gets much, much worse.

I mean, the "beaver" thing has always been a running joke, but to turn into into a marketing campaign? I guess it's one way to get attention. Do you guys think they even realized? Also, they used a woman who looks like a beaver (the animal). Just…weird. Twitter is blowing up over this…a lot of people laughing at OSU rather than with them.

If anyone wants to defect to the Ducks at this point, I'll completely understand.

  1. What the heck, we have so many talented Beavers. They totally missed their opportunity to put Sara Jean Underwood “on it”.

      • My guess is that the originator intended to pun the Portlandia skit, “Put a bird on it”. Then the dual meaning would attract a hip(ster) crowd familiar with the meaning as well as drive attention toward the educational context of having an educated Beaver alum used to correct an industrial problem.

        It’s still horribly, horribly wrong.

Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having seen this.
        I award you no points.
And may God have mercy on your soul.

  2. Unbelievable. Is this a real ad or did someone just photoshop this thing? From the heading, to the lady that looks like a beaver, to “powered by orange?” This can’t be real.

  3. Anybody who’s seen Portlandia knows what they’re trying to do. There’s a sketch/bit on that show where Portland artists show you how easy it is to improve pretty much anything you own. Just “put a bird on it.”.

Have an ugly mailbox? Just put a bird on it. Anyway, I’m assuming the message here is, “You’ve got an economic problem? Just put a Beaver on it”

It’s funny I guess, but it was already a joke the first time around, so why insert yourself into the joke? I’m not sure.

I feel like we’re in high-school again though for poking fun at a lady who looks a little Beaver-ish. Is that really necessary?

  4. This is just hysterical. That side by side Craig is wonderful.
Guys, you can’t control this kind of stuff so just laugh at it. It only bothers you if you let it. Sure it’s silly but so what?
Do we lose recruits because OSU comes across weird like this sometimes? Who freaking knows.
This is a chuckle and move on thing for me. Maybe send whoever is responsible the angry muscrat side-by-side photo and tell them to think ahead next time.

  5. Weiden Kennedy wouldn’t touch Beaver marketing. They hire straight from the U of O School of Journalism. And OSU can’t afford them. Weiden Kennedy handled all of Nike at one point, forgod’s sake!! They have far better things to do. If this is how OSU grads get jobs, if this is the kind of sloppy crap marketing that is acceptable, I’d hate to see what passes in a classroom. The Ducks sports marketing was more clever than this in the 90s when they were terrible. I am embarrassed for the Beavers…I would cringe every time I saw this slapped up on a wall in Portland. Good thing you have he shame I your football program to distract you…from the rest of the world who isn’t laughing with you, we are all sincerely sorry you paid money for this.
