Recruiting Week

420

Hey guys.

So general recruiting thread here, but feel free to go off topic. I’ll keep this thread up until signing day.

NiceBeaver has done a great job with recruiting info. In appreciation, half of the donations between now and singing day will go to him. I spoke with him about this in private, and he said doing the recruiting stuff is his donation to the site. Interesting perspective and one I appreciate, but still, if anyone was holding off on a donation this is a good time because NB will get something for his work.

We’ve made our hosting goal so big thanks to all who contributed. Oh, and the button below is Paypal. There was some confusion about that in the prior thread. You can also setup a small, monthly recurring donation via the button if you wish. It’s fancy like that. If you don’t want to donate, that’s cool, too.

Now, go Beavs — they’re finishing this recruiting cycle with what seems like a whimper, but I’m hoping for a surprise or two that’s a game changer.

  1. First bitches!

Speaking of a whimper, expect both the hoops teams to end the season this way in a month. On the bright side we get baseball in two weeks but will have to hear about LH being a kid diddler for the next 4 months.

On the bright side PC’s team is pretty fucking loaded. Again. Barring major injuries a Pac-12 title is expected. Anything less than a trip to Omaha is a disappointment. Go Beavs with wood. Or sticks. Whatever you wish to call them.

    • Why do you think the WBB will end the season poorly? They may not win the P12 reg season or tourney but I fully expected them to make the NCAAs and if they get the right draw, can do some damage. Gulich is going to be a load to handle for any team that hasn’t seen her. This weekend vs the Bay area schools is going to tell us a lot.

      • Especially if Katie Mac continues to be a threat from the outside along with Tudor and the rest of the 3 point shooters. Katie’s offensive threat will open things up even more for Gulich in the middle. I’m going to the Stanford game tomorrow night and can’t wait. The women are just flat out fun to watch play and the crowd really gets into it. I think the Beavs can finish 5-3 or 6-2 and that would put them at 21-8 or 22-7 and probably 3rd or 4th n a very deep conference. This team is getting better as the season progresses and role players start to contribute. That said, next season will be the one to watch the Beavs with Destiny at PG, in coming 6’8″ freshman, 6-7 freshman and almost the same squad returning from this year’s team except Gulich. Go Beavs.

  2. I will give props to the coaching staff for landing some pretty decent looking beef for the OL and DL. This is something we’ve all bitched about for the last few years.

    • This is just my guess but I’d imagine for I applied for the coaching job and knew they were not going to announce it for a while I’d be trying to line up my staff just in case I got it. I’d be making preemptive calls so as to get a jump on things and not lose guys to other gigs.

    • I don’t think it’s unusual for a coaching candidate to have a group ready to go as his assistants, prior to actually getting the job. I’ve often read where candidates have these hires sketched out well in advance to help sell their vision in interviews. I really don’t think Smith knew he had the job till shortly before it broke, but he probably knew he was on the short list with a couple weeks to go.

      • Every coach who has head coaching aspirations has a plan of what their vision is. They have a list of coaches they’d want to work with or have discussed working together if one or the other were to get a head coaching job (and you can see this since every coach is connected to Smith’s coaching or playing stops). Smith’s list was probably shorter than some since he hasn’t been to too many schools.

From what Barnes relayed, he was the front runner but did do their due diligence on other candidates as well. Hard to be the first guy to interview, have to wait the longest to hear back. Sounded like Baldwin had a very good interview, since there were strong rumors of him being hired. I kind of think Baldwin was going to be the guy but his agent overplayed his hand and that gave the edge to Smith.

    • Remember when I said my source told me Smith was hired and there was no real search? That was the word with those in the know around Corvallis. Same with Riley. He was on board long before it was mentioned. His wife was going around town telling people…

I think it goes further back than a couple of weeks, too.

      • If true, I apologize to Cory Hall for thinking anything bad about his leadership abilities. Even a HoF coach wouldn’t be able to overcome his own school undermining a team like that.

        • Yeah because I am sure that OSU is the first school to ever know who they are gonna hire weeks before officially announcing it. No chance that doesn’t happen all the time when coaches leave in midseason.

          • It is unfortunate, however, that they left Hall in limbo, up to and including the hiring of JS. The reality is they jammed that guy and that was pretty shitty.

          • I don’t know that I agree. They gave a position coach with very little experience the opportunity to demonstrate what he’d do as head coach. I think that what happened in 2017 will probably have a net positive effect on Hall’s coaching career.

          • No, that I would agree with, allowing him the exposure was good, although they didn’t have many options either. The shitty thing is to imply that he would be retained when the new staff came in and then cut him loose after the coaching carousel has ended.

          • Yeah, they said they’d recommend Hall to the new coach and I am sure they did but at the end of the day a head coach gets to pick his staff.

          • Then why not cut him loose when they came on board? I get it, it’s a business, but seems like a more appropriate thing to do would be to tell the guy, hey, you’re not in our plans, thanks. I tend to treat my employees with respect though.

    • Struck throws a nice ball, and holy shit he is ripped in that Twitter photo. Pretty bad completion % in HS.
Did he play at CC? I’d be curious to see if he improved.

I’ve always been puzzled how the Kellen Moore, Dan Lefebvre, and Falk type always winds up on other teams. OSU never hits on a guy like that. These guys we’re recruiting are in that mold. So, it’s interesting…I like all these guys more than Seth Collins, Garrettson, and Luton, so there’s that.

  3. NB. should we be excited about a player who was a true freshman at Hawaii last year and was in a back-up OT and special teams player? He has to redshirt this year, correct?

      • Very well written article by Eggers. Seriously a very very good piece of journalism. I have a lot of hope that the whole Heimlich family can heal and make positive on their lives

        • JohnClownzano says Eggers just makes stuff up, and this article is fakenews.

Very good article and it makes last spring all the more infuriating for so many to simply pile on in ignorance and emotionalism, including Oregonian, ESPNSEC and their vengeful umps.

It was a media disgrace that should not be forgotten or too soon forgiven by OSU Administration/Athletics and especially OSU Baseball. Casey should personally toss that sanctimonious know it all Canzano out of the staduim next time he comes to OSU for any event.

          • Or at least offer him a night out by his favorite sponsor of his 750 The Game Radio show….the DolphinII Strip Club. Yes, JC, supporter of the anti-exploitation of women movement, draws part of his salary from a business that does just that….exploits women. And, to top it all off, Clownzano had my account permanently deactivated from Oregon Live when I posted in response to several of his articles that very fact. What cahone-less and spineless turd and to think I used to support that POS on Oregon Live…not anymore….I don’t listen to his radio show or read any of his articles.

          • I used to get pissed off at clownzano but Ive tuned him out, he’s just a carnival barker. To me, its infuriating to look up a Beav article and then see Danny Moron’s name on it.

          • There’s no doubt in my mind that Moran didn’t dig anything up on Heimlich. Crazy ass brother’s ex wife probably sent the info to the Oregonian. I wouldn’t be surprised if Moran’s first call was to Casey to give him a heads up that if they didn’t run the story she’d just go to the next outlet with it.

          • Moran did do a request for documents from the court. Myself and two others from this site investigated this last year and requested court records. They were requested on May 19th by Moran. Now, did someone go tell him to dig those up? I think so but can’t prove it.

          • Why are there so many down votes on this Heimlich stuff? Have the balls to state your case if you think he was treated fairly or in other words, got what he deserved.

    • I just read it and responded to it with a nice little tidbit about John Clownzano the consummate hypocrite. Great article with lots of new information that should really make some people rethink their opinion about LH and his innocence. I was a victim of child sex abuse at the age of 5 by my 13-14 year old cousin and she recently passed away that brought back some unpleasant memories.

The fact that some Duck fans like Ganggreen91 (OregonLive) are demanding an explanation about why Casey recruited Luke and allowed him on the team….well, Eggers article should answer that question loud and clear. Catch a cllue Duck fans (GG91 also stated that Luke was 17 during the alleged abuse….when we all know he was 15.)

Anyway, great article and I think it will help put this story to rest except for some Duck fans that just want to troll for the sake of trolling. Luke, go have a great season and finish what you should have been allowed to start during last season’s playoff run. Bring home the title and thumb your nose to those that doubt the validity of your multiple lie detector tests.

    • Wow. I feel a little juvenile regarding my initial response to the situation. I still don’t know exactly what to think of it all.

    • Someone with twitter may want to educate Kendall Rogers. The guy has a reading comprehension problem as demonstrated by his assertion on twitter that LH “readmitted guilt” in his statement last June.

Rogers take on the Eggers story:
Interesting story here by @kerryeggers — but Luke Heimlich has a long long way to go to remotely convince anyone. He must answer questions, publicly. Anything else should be considered fluff.

      • Convince anyone of what? Not to sound callous, but who cares how many times he does or does not admit guilt. It doesn’t matter. He committed the act when he was a minor and completed his court ordered requirements.. Why is this so hard for people to understand????

        • If they’re Duck fans, they lack the capacity for reason and logic. Yes, it’s actually pretty simple to figure out that he wasn’t an adult, there’s different legal standards for minors as opposed to adults and that he fulfilled the terms of his sentencing. There are still those that demand to know the truth why PC signed him to play for the Beavers. Again, that is very simple to understand if you have the capacity for reason and logic…..PC didn’t know about his past because LH wasn’t required to disclose it. In fact, based on the most recent information in the Kerry Eggers article, I’m not convinced that the entire story has been told and, frankly, I don’t care. In my eyes, the kid took accountability for his alleged behavior, served his sentence and has been a productive member of OSU ever since. End of story for those with the capacity to reason and understand logic.

          • But hey… you’re not above spending fifty words to excoriate a woman’s looks based on your own shallow understanding of humanity.

            So there’s that.

  4. Have we reached the point where nobody here gives a shit about men’s basketball? I think has to be the most damn indictment of all By the way, they got down 20-3 to Stanford out of the gate. Tinkle has to go at some point, right?

      • That’s too funny. I’ve been saying the same(not exact words, but similar) to people who have sent me his podcast links in the past.
        I can’t get through a whole show.

The funny think is, if you have heard him over this year, he’s sounding more and more like Canzano. As if he’s studying Canzano’s show to learn how to be a radio guy. Similar voice, same tempo and flow. His idol.
It’s like the awkward radio guy equivalent of when Kobe came into the league and tried to talk like MJ.

        • All of these dudes need testosterone shots or something. Where’s the bass knob, fellas!?

He sounds more like Petros jacked up on crack than Canzano.

      • Did you listen to the part near the end where he discusses the lack of P5 offers most of our recruits have? He also said he doesn’t think these guys look like Pac 12 players on film. I would like to chalk it up to a coaching change but even GA was flipping Utah leans/commits in year 1 at OSU.

        • Trying to think of how many of the GA flips actually ever saw the field?
I guess Togiai, although he was a Utah basketball commit. And Paul Lucas played a little, but is back at ASU.
          Any others?

          • Not all these guys were flips or have seen the field but they had multiple power 5 offers – Wily-Matagi, Jay Irvine, Taylor Thomas, Elu Aydon, Deltron Sands, Simi Moala. Treston Decoud was also a GA signing that first shortened recruiting season.

  5. Nice article on Brandin Cooks:

    http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/268243/brandin-cooks-has-lived-up-to-the-offseason-hype-for-patriots

““What he’s done for our team, in one year, is really incredible. I haven’t seen it very much from anybody to come in and make the kind of contributions he’s made,” Brady said of Cooks, who finished the regular season with 65 receptions for 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns. “He does it in his own style, too. He’s not trying to mimic anybody.”

In Brady’s 16 seasons as a starter, only two Patriots receivers had more production than Cooks has in a first season with the team: Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist Randy Moss and Wes Welker, both in 2007.”

    • Without doing much research, 16 yards per catch sounds like a high average.

He’s commanded a lot of extra attention from DB’s as well, so his net effect on the team goes beyond what’s seen on paper.

      A lot of explosive plays.

I miss Cooks. Slightly notches above Quizz and Quon for all time favorite Beav

      • Those guys are all great Beavs, but Stroughter is probably my all time favorite. Also loved Moore, so that ’06 team was a blast once they got rolling. I think that was Riley’s best team even though ’08 and ’09 were playing for more.

      • What little I saw of a playoff game it looked like his deep routes were effectively helping clear out the underneath routes, and he apparently got a few long PI calls his way. I figured he’d end up with more TDs, but, next year.

Off the top of my head add Hass, Jackson, Doggett, Swancutt, Victor Butler…

  6. I’m guessing we get Jack Colletto today, announcing on Twitter at 4pm our time. His latest 6 follows on Twitter are Oregon State guys and he follows almost nobody from Vandy, even though I believe he visited them after he visited us. So, I think we get him.

I get that a lot of people on here don’t like him, which I don’t totally understand.

Obviously, his delivery needs plenty of work, he jump throws a lot, throws off his back foot too much, generally has a poor delivery. Considering all of that, he’s somewhat accurate, his arm strength is solid and I think with a decent QB coach, he could develop to be pretty good at the Pac-12 level. I don’t think he’s going to be any sort of all conference QB for us, but I think the criticism of him is sort of overblown.

  7. +1000 for Dave in Tumwater on JBS today. Danny Moran should be persona non grata in Beaver Nation with his surface-of-the-story vigilante hit piece and “standard” (bullshit) background checks. And that hypocrite Canzano. Cheers, Dave!

  8. Busy work day so sorry for the lack of updates. Not much to say other than I think the staff has their remaining commitments lined up and they’re going to play defense between now and signing day to keep everybody on board.
By my count, we have 6 spots left, max, but we may not use them all. Here’s how I think the final 6 spots will fill out(just an amature prediction, so don’t put much faith in this)

    1. Colletto (announces 5PM today)
    2. Gray
    3. Tago
    4. Brockermeyer
    5. Hunt or Hall, whoever commits first
    6. 1 of Brockermeyer/Jaden Robinson

All things considered, that wouldn’t be a bad little haul for this final week.

One thing I don’t understand is how Oregon is able to convince potentially 4 4* and above WRs and 2 4* TEs to all join in the same class. That’s a ton of guys signing up who will expect to see the ball coming their way, added to a receiving corp that’s isn’t exactly a bare cupboard. A few of these guys are going to be unhappy riding the pine in their fancy rain coats the next couple of years when they could have been showcased at other schools with less competition for spots.

Must be a nice problem to have.

  9. Scoop compares Scott Frost’s response to two players being sent to the hospital with rhabdo to the way slick willie handled things:

“…Frost’s reaction was completely different than Taggart’s….
Taggart responded by shunning that writer. He later said he thought the players overworked themselves and didn’t hydrate enough.

Frost, meanwhile, started his statement by saying, “Anything that happens in this program is my responsibility” in the very first sentence. Frost’s first step in handling this story was the right one.”

Side issue: Did MR leave an out of shape group at Neb?
    http://footballscoop.com/news/two-nebraska-players-hospitalized-rhabdo-heres-scott-frosts-response/

    EDIT/ADD: Worth Noting-
Frost’s S/C coach Zach Duval, is certified as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association, the highest honor given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession. He has a Bachelors in Exercise Science, while Willies guy studied “recreation”, was uncertified, and was better qualified to organize a badminton tourney.

    • Yes, it sure sounds like he left behind an out of condition team. I would guess they also forget the snap count a lot and are poor tacklers. With that said, I do think he has a good mind for offense and brings some value as an assistant.

  10. WBB ALERT: 6pm on PAC12, Beavs vs Stanford at Gill. The only game on the regular season schedule between the two.

    Usual questions come to mind:
-Can the Beavs keep TO’s under 12? More importantly, will the difference in points off of TO’s be less than 5?
-Will Tudor, McWilliams, Goodman and Kalmer or a combo prove to be enough of a threat beyond the arc to free up Gulich?
-Can Gulich stay out of foul trouble?

    And, the usual expectation:
-Gulich will continue to lead and to RUN THE COURT! Her hustle has been obvious, valuable, and fun to watch! Angry knows how to pick ’em!

  11. Watched the MBB game last night… spent the second half trying to dig out of an huge hole. Too little…too late!!

Looks like Tinkle will be added to the post-Miller casualties of Anderson, Payne, McKay, John, Robinson…next up???

    • Hey PBH, although I still haven’t forgiven you for the disparaging comments about my city a couple weeks ago I do hope you get a chance to go out to the Phoenix Open while you are here. The talent on and off the course are worth viewing up close.

      • I went to the Open on Thursday. It’s a pretty incredible experience. Thursday is a great day to go. A lot less people so you can easily walk up to the ropes around the greens and here conversations between the players. Just missed the streaker on 16 though.

    • It is hard to imagine OSU firing Tinkle before Tres is gone. He has at least 2 more years. This team doesn’t seem that far off if they can add some talented post players and get an actual PG.

    • I don’t know about savior, but if they can get his footwork and delivery down, I think he can be an improvement over what we’ve had the last 3 years. Considering the lack of QB coaching, I don’t see why a few of the guys we already have can’t get better too.

      • He is working on the mechanics but not sure we will completely see the leg kick go away. Sometimes its better to have a great college QB than a prototypical NFL QB. Not trying to compare him to either but would you rather have tim tebow or derek anderson? Sometimes quirky works in college.

          • Ok so what’s your depth chart coming out of spring ball? If it’s not between him and Luton then they are in better shape than I think they are at QB. I’m still optimistic about Willard but I don’t believe Blount, Dukart or Moran will ever be in the mix.

    • It should keep the blog interesting!
Though, to be honest, I have warmed to him a bit once I got over the pumpkin tossing and foot kick.

  12. Colletto does have some of the general traits that made JS so effective w/ the Beavs: Hard working, not scared of challenges, very intelligent. I mean here’s a kid that was willing to take the long road to get to D-1 and was smart enough to get into Vandy.

    • I’m hoping he’s the weird/unorthodox QB I always see on every other team who’s lighting it up and makes me wonder “Why didn’t we recruit this guy?”……there are A LOT of those guys.

  13. Joshua Gray is a pretty big deal. And a neat deal.
ESPN has him as a 4-star, and he has a solid offer sheet with both AZ schools, NE, and WSU.
Not much excitement over him on twitter or here. He’s listed at 6-5 and 233lbs. Very light for a tackle, so I guess he’ll have to RS.

    • I agree, he is a big deal. People need to understand that we have some pretty good options on the OL coming in, all things considered. I like Gray quite a bit.
Also, nice to have a renewed connection to Rancho Cucamonga now.(i want to say Villy was the only guy from there on last years team but would have to look it up)

    • I guess I don’t understand the “stars system”. Do the experts give out stars on potential? Gray can’t play OL at 233 pounds in a P-5 conference, so they are assuming he will be great at 285lbs? Not sure how you give 4 stars with such an unknown. Sort of why I don’t get much into recruiting, so many never even make the field.

    • At the half, not bad in the TO area. OSU=5, Tree=4 but the Beavs have 1 more point than tree off of TO’s. Agree, though, it looked like it was gonna get out of hand at one point.

  14. Aaaand a no-call on cue that gifts the game to Stanford, Gullich hacked with a no-call on the possession fo rthe beavs to tie, even Rueck is getting robbed at home by the Pac12.

They must make sure the Beavs don’t interfere with the Nike/Ducks run to glory.

    • Just leaving Gill. Beavs lost because they couldn’t keep cards off the offensive boards in second half. Officials missed a couple of over the back calls but ultimately the beavs didn’t deserve to win this game…out coached, out hustled and out played….

      • I thought the turnovers were more damning than the offensive rebounds. Some of Stanford’s shots were so shitty it was sort of difficult to get position and anticipate were the ball was going to go. Some of the turnovers were unforced and horrific.

  15. Can anyone explain why this is being propped up as NATIONAL news?
    https://amp.usatoday.com/amp/300023002

Some random dumbass student posting a racist dumbass pic is literally in my news feed above the Nunes memo, a historically bad day for the stock market, and Russian nuclear weapons development. You know, trivial inconsequential things like those. The press is a joke.

    • I don’t see anything on your list of any importance. Maybe the Dow, if you didn’t have the foresight last year to batten down that hatch. But fluffy bullshit sticks to fluffy bullshit.

  16. Too bad we suck so bad.

You guys see Brights little brother has been offered by everyone in the country?

Would have been a neat deal to have another legacy.

  17. For any of the media types who think this is all about their fake outrage, Eggers is simply providing news.

    It’s what journalists do.

This news may be unliked by the fake outrage crowd, but it’s still news that was omitted (or more than likely lazily never uncovered). Eggers isn’t really telling any part of a story I didn’t hear last spring. This was all available as part of the facts on record at the time.

So the fake outrage “media” types who are so god damned lazy that they left facts behind in order to make this all about them and their fake outrage can go fuck themselves.

This is a serious subject with real life consequences for an entire family, not something you can tweet and retweet with fake outrage as if you’re more righteously affected by your own insufficient narrative than the family is by the truth.

    • The tit-for-tat is stupid.

Tell her it’s not about her. And I wouldn’t tell my daughter anything, because my daughter was thankfully never a victim of molestation as a child. I won’t pretend to know the situation, just as she shouldn’t pretend to know it based on her biased view of it.

She can “lalala I can’t hear you” all she wants about this case. But it’s still nothing like anything she ever experienced.

And anyone who wants to force their logic on this by saying he must be guilty or he never would have plead guilty must also use that logic to say that Brenda Tracy was never raped because she chose not to pursue her attackers through the legal system.

That’s how fucked up this is. Victimology is not exclusive.

      • I take that back.

Tracy was a victim of abuse as a child. Correct?

Maybe she should speak through that lens instead of distorting it with the violent crime of capus rape. That’s why I forgot about that part of her story.

        • I don’t know that you need to take anything back until she can show a basic understanding of the facts regarding Heimlich’s case. Because she unfortunately did not receive justice does not mean that justice was not served in this case, no matter how loud she shouts.

      • It sounds like she would have to lock her own son up in the family basement forever since his successful rehabilitation and endorsement from the professionals involved hold less sway then Tracy’s faux outrage.

  18. I sort of expected this because I think certain people in the media arrogantly thought Heimlich would silently slither away after the season ended. Never to return.

A reality has slapped them in the face, the OSU administration was being sincere, Heimlich would be welcomed back if that was his choice. Last season a distraction, this season fresh beginning. Price paid by a FUCKING MINOR, time to move forward.

      • It’s become obvious that many want Heimlich to fail now that they realize he will be a key component of the team. I think it will manifest itself in different ways…..umpires, opposing fans, media, activists, etc. I wonder how truly prepared Heimlich, Casey and the team are for what may be coming?

          • I was speculating more about the external pressures, but it is certainly a unique situation for this years team. I’m hoping for the best and all can move on.

          • As far as umps go, who knows, they can only go so far without being blatant.

Internal discord, has that ever existed with Casey in charge?

This team is loaded and will perform as expected. If there is someone in the locker room causing problems Casey or Bails will get rid of them

  19. If Tracy were honest and genuine about changing culture, she’d be serious about reform for victims and defendants alike. Usually these same people are outraged at prison costs.

I’d love to hear her actually say what a fair sentence would be instead of just being outraged

  20. Read on Benny’s board that Oregon pulled Teagan Quitoriano’s offer. Anyone heard anything about this? Would OSU be interested if true?

    • You’d have to know why they pulled the offer. Was it because of him or did they hose him?

Curious why he didn’t sign in the early period when he had been committed for so long.

    • He was one of their lower ranked offers. And NB pointed out they signed a ton of receivers/TEs so maybe he was told/realized he might not see playing time.

    • I watched him play a Sprague several times in the past two years and I gotta say that I didn’t come away too impressed. That said, Sprague’s offense isn’t really built around TEs so that probably why he didn’t show up in the stats a lot. I’m not sure what to make of him. In basketball, he’s a tweener but he could potentially help OSU in basketball. Personally, I think he’s more of Portland State kind of talent than Pac12. I think he could be a very good player in basketball for PSU….He had OSU as one of his final schools before choosing the Schmucks. I don’t know if the OSU staff views his talent level the way the Schmucks did. I’ve met him at the gym, spoken with him, and he seems to be a real genuine, down to earth kid so that’s a big plus. I wouldn’t mind OSU giving him a shot but I don’t know if he’s got the skill set for Pac12 play.

  21. Gray is a good commit. Has the frame and athleticism to play tackle.

Size is the biggest issue but a redshirt year should take care of that. Think his playing weight would be right around 290ish.

Highlight film didn’t show much pass pro so coaching him up will determine his potential.

  22. Reading on Twitter and sounds like OSU is going to land Tago today. TazMan has made his decision and will announce tonight at 7:30. I hope it’s OSU and not TCU but signs pointing to TCU.

  23. Dux getting crushed by Stanford 74-41 with still lots of time left. At least the beavs put up a fight vs Stanford. Oregon looks like OSU did last year….

    • It’s nice to see Altman faced with some adversity (couldn’t happen to a more sleazy guy), but the Beavs need to get a road win today. I’m tired of Tinkle’s quotes about the team “not being ready”. I think that’s an accountability of the head coach!

  24. OT: WBB
Here is Rueck on why he got “T’d up” in the first four minutes yesterday:
“I’m trying to protect my post player from getting bad calls made against her,” … “I see it week after week.”

The frustration of losing a few which should have been W’s seems to be getting to him. Gonna come out fired up from the start next season.

  25. Shit, the Beavs have not scored in five minutes against fucking Cal. Announcers brought up the point that this team should have more wins than it does. Cal went on a 17-4 run and lead 36-28 at the half. This Beaver team has big problems.

  26. If the Beavs lose this game I don’t really know what the defense is for Tinkle anymore. And I’ve been one of his strongest supporters. This team is just not coming together

    • How do you fire him though? Tres leaves and they’re a 5-27 team again. It seems like every game they play the opponent has a couple of men out there, the Beavs are all boys. No toughness. Berger is the best example of toughness out there and that’s not saying a lot.

      • Not just no toughness, these guys are weak and unathletic. Tres, Drew and Stevie have been on campus for 3 years and physically they still look like freshmen

        • It appears the uptick in play after JM left has worn off. This is a hugely disappointing year, but pretty predictable given the the lack of a decent lead guard. Unless he pulls a miracle grad transfer/ JC out of the hat, it will be a repeat of the same next year. Must we suck……every year?

      • “Tres leaves and they’re a 5-27 team again.”
Yeah, because what we have now is soooo much better. I’ve heard of the good being the enemy of the great, but this is like the putrid being the enemy of the bad.

How do people even bother showing up to Gill for the men’s team lately? Better fans than I.

        • I agree, it’s all pretty much shit if you don’t make the Big Dance, but last season was damn hard to watch. Like I’ve said many times, Wayne Tinkle has shown me nothing except for GP-2 and as everyone knows he was a CR recruit. Also, who the fuck are these recruiting sites who put TT and the Thompsons in the Top 100 as players?

    • 19 consecutive road losses. Longest streak in the nation. I’ve been a supporter of Tinkle but I’m about to abandon that. I’m curious as to what their road record is over the last 4 years because I’d be shocked if there’s more than 10 total wins in there. I fail to understand why they perform so horribly away from Gill.

How do you lose to a team so horrible they hadn’t won any game in over a month? With the talent on this team there is no excuse for it. I’ve been saying for two years they need to go back to playing lock down D and slowing the pace of play as they did in Tinkle’s first year. Keep scores low and stay in games. Defense is all about effort. Or in this case, lack of.

  27. Pretty amazing the tweets about Luke. Some people don’t understand the difference between rape and molestation. Yet according to those saying he raped the little girl, I’m the “effing idiot.”. Truly proves my point that people are too emotional about this to be objective or intelligent.

      • Yes I know that but people that say Luke raped shows they’re either uninformed, or don’t understand the legal definitions but are so emotionally charged they lose their ability to rationally think about the actual crime, sentencing, and Luke’s legal rights to live his life after successfully meeting all his legal obligations.

        • I think it is both uninformed and emotionally charged. Pretty typical SJW.
How’s this for lazy journalism, found in D1’s prediction that the Beavs are likely to make it to Omaha this year:

“Caveat: If the off-field stuff rears its ugly head.
The Beavers had a set of off-field issues come around at the worst time last year when Luke Heimlich and Christian Donahue did not play in Omaha. Clean up the off-field antics fellas.

          I added the BOLD there.

Donahue has moved up(?) to Cubs, and Luke hasn’t had an “off field” issue during his time at OSU…….I just thought it was a poor way of stating things.

      • Are we supposed to give him a shot at QB, or is he going to be one of Tibesars attack dogs?
Reminds me of the kid that just played QB at CU for our new OC. Kid has some good balance.

          • Is he talented enough to play as a true freshmen LB? I liked watching him QB, man among boys. Can I dare say, raw unpolished Roethlisberger is who he reminded me of.

          • Agreed, Trent Bray was his primary recruiter. I think he’s the next great OSU LB. Tago notes several times the UN was the only school recruiting him as a QB

          • Even if he is talented enough to play as a true frosh LB if you think you can make him into a QB you have too. Sounds like that isn’t the plan but it better not be because they think he is a good enough LB to play now.

          • I just watched it again and I agree, I’ve always liked a big bruiser Moevao/Masoli type QB for the college game. Tago looks like he could take both of them apart. I think he needs his shot at QB.

          • And he’s a good five inches taller than either one of them. I’m drawing a blank, but I think one of the Mountain West teams had a guy playing LB and QB at different times this past season.

          • Were any of his offers to play QB?
I found him intriguing. He looked like a LB playing QB, yet every throw was impressive in some way whether it be accuracy, touch, or arm strength.

          • Nice. Wonder if he wants to be a LB instead? Maybe he likes D better and that’s where we offered him.
I’d like to see him at QB to begin. Intriguing.

    • That’s a great comment and one that we’ve been pointing out here also. I don’t get why Tracy wants to make noise regarding Heimlich specifically unless it’s just to keep her name out there. Heimlich’s situation has little to do with hers or the “me too” movement. She makes it sound like Luke is currently raping and pillaging his way through the Mid-Valley as we speak. And I’m still puzzled as to why people cannot understand the legal distinctions between a minor and an adult? Is it that difficult?

      • No body who’s commenting really cares?

The blow hards (Brenda included) are just using it to make noise and keep their name out there/be interesting.

Rival fans and/or teams we play against are just commenting to sling mud and talk down the competition with a holier than thou shtick.

    • I’m disgusted with how our society is no longer about truth and justice but about 15 minutes of fame. Eggers story has shown a lot of light on this concerning Luke. 4 lie detector tests in all, all indicating he did not do it at least as accused. And now he gets linked to something that really happened that in no way should involve his name coming up. Sad.

      • I don’t do Twitter very well, but it looks like Angry is doing just fine in rebutting her. I read something (can’t find it now) where she was equating Heimlich to a having a history as a violent sexual offender. Huh? And also, according to “Tracy justice”……Luke can be a productive member of society, but he can’t play sports. Huh, again? I would venture a guess, that Tracy has not researched this case.

I guess we need to make a law now that juvenile sexual offenders can work at 7-11 after serving their sentence and that’s about it.

        • I don’t think she’s used to people questioning her on Twitter, and interestingly more and more people are doing that. Hopefully my comments help people step up and question her more.

          • She is painfully uninformed regarding this specific case, but my guess is that she’s too arrogant to acknowledge the corner she has painted herself in to.

It’s interesting because I think The Oregonian got her “expert opinion” when this story first hit and she was pretty bland in her comments. I wonder what is driving this activism now?

          • Thats good. Been thinking she isn’t really helping her cause or herself by using a tin ear/mouth. And I’m a person who appreciates what she’s done wrt her own assault.

Md’s and lawyers will shut their mouths when they realize they are outside their areas of expertise. I wish this juvenile case wasn’t a public discussion; think it impairs the healing of the people involved.

      • Bill, none of the polygraphs were in regards to his niece though. The last 3 were specific to his probation and per the story they were prohibited from asking about his niece in the initial polygraph. Sounds like the family and attorney errored by not having questions specific to his niece included.

        From the story:

In May 2012, Luke’s sexual history was obtained via clinical interview and a sexual history polygraph conducted by Rick Minnich, chief examiner of Minnich Polygraph Services of Burien, Washington.

Minnich was prohibited from asking any question directly related to Luke’s niece.

        From the report:

“It was the opinion of Mr. Minnich that Luke was truthful when he answered ‘no’ to the following questions: ‘Not to include (the niece), have you engaged in sexual conduct with any member of your family?’ And, ‘Not to include (the niece), have you engaged in sexual contact with anyone else more than two years younger than you?'”

Polygraph tests often are used to determine the veracity of suspects or witnesses, and to monitor criminal offenders on probation. Luke and his parents would have welcomed the opportunity for a polygraph asking questions directly related to his niece, but their attorney said polygraph results are inadmissible in Washington court, and he advised against asking Luke specific questions.

      • She has a strong platform (especially in Oregon). She needs to be rebutted when she is factually incorrect or makes inflammatory statements. I believe she showed her hand today when she said that Luke should not be allowed to play sports.

        • I don’t think “pointing out her logical flaws or ignorance” changes anyone’s mind – facts, legal determination, and reason fail to deter her. Conversely, I don’t believe she has changed anyone’s opinion – responding to her creates more opportunity to blather on.

          • If she’s ignorantly acting out on her own then I wouldn’t think the debate needs to go on much longer, but if she’s a player in a larger concerted effort to get Heimlich off the team then I think she needs to be countered when and where she can be.

    • Interesting read. I would like to see how the Patriots perform post Brady to get the long view on this. I think his unique abilities might throw a statistical wrench into this a little with QB being the most important position on a NFL team. I know they still went 11-5 in his injured season (somehow missed the playoffs), so maybe the economic efficiency will continue. It seemed to have hit a wall with my Oakland A’s!

  28. Will Oracle Tracy share her list of approved and disapproved activities for adjudicated minors, who have complied with the court system, and are deemed low risk for repeat offense? She shouldn’t hog all that divine wisdom for herself. Since playing sports is off the list what dreams can such people chase?

If she’s feeling extra benevolent maybe she could enlighten us ignorant masses on how many hours of the day such youth should be allowed out from under their rock she wants them to hide under.

      • Maybe it depends on if he’s any good at slow-pitch softball?

Oracle Tracy uses an attractive Twitter pic but has revealed her inner ugliness. The ugliness of a woman who carries her victimhood like a spiked shield to protect herself from criticism and attack those who disagree.

It’s sad that she has suffered horrible tragedies. It’s also sad she has let them completely define her and warp her into a person consumed by vengeance. One who would allow no second chances for minors. One who cannot fathom that the legal system is not only flawed against victims at times, but also against the accused. Without commenting on the Heimlich case in particular, I would not be surprised if she thinks Brian Banks and the Duke Lacrosse team should all be rotting in prison right now.

A tragic tale of a tragic life that has so much potential for good and helping others but has sadly gone over the edge. She is hurting her credibility and that of her cause at this point.

        • I sort of think Tracy feels empowered by the “me too” movement and has been mentally lazy in trying to apply it to Luke’s case. It’s not even close to being equivalent to what she experienced as an adult or what men in power have done to women.

  29. Any news on Nikko Hall? Saw machado not mentioning him for remaining two potential commits. We offere Robinson so does that mean we think Hall is not coming to us? Thanks

    • I noticed over the weekend several more OSU coaches have started following Hunt, as if they’re concentrating all of their efforts towards landing him( would make a nice little storyline too if they could beat out Nebraska and the coach of the year for 2 guys)

I havent seen any effort put in towards landing Hall. I do think he was an OSU commit around the early signing period, but who knows what he’s thinking now. Visited Colorado State over the weekend.

I suppose OSU could still land him with their final spot, but having a roster spot open to potentially land a grad transfer RB this offseason might be a better used of the final scholarship, because they would have that spot open again for a 2019 recruit they’re more focused on landing, after the grad transfer plays 1 year.

      • Thanks me for the update. I haven’t heard them even reference Hall lately either. I would think Hall would like Tago coming and Hunt potentially joining the class. I don’t want to give up on a guy and lose them to Colorado state!! Never k ow the vibes coaches get though on a guy.

    • “Most people knew there were problems with the Nebraska football team before Scott Frost said it. Still, when the new head coach makes comments about how people aren’t all pulling in the same direction, it makes people take notice.”

Given Mail-It-In Mike’s lack of fire, I’m impressed they were pulling in ANY direction.

  30. Looked like Seumalo’s blocking helped a lot on Blount’s TD run. Nice to see Isaac getting some snaps, I know he’s not a starter.

    • Cal called for TWICE as many PF’s as the Beavs! And Rueck didn’t have to take a “T”…..today.

Many here miss having Mandy on the sideline, but it is worth noting that Rueck said the Beavers today followed assistant coach Katie Baker’s game plan to a T. This per the story in the GT.

  31. Tinkle underperforming. Offense has no raw determination and defense too complacent. Time for excuses is over. Eubanks, Thompson Jr, Tinkle Jr and team is little better on the road.

Oregon State sports culture too soft in the Major sports. 1/10 the fire of the Fiesta Bowl Beavs and basketball legacy eroding too damn quickly.

  32. Jaden Robinson verbally committed this morning, so we’re on Andre Hunt watch now.
Also received a message today from someone I’ve met at a recent game who told me his son was invited down for a visit this weekend and got the news that’s he’s being offered a PWO spot. Should also be committing today. They had already beem familiar with OSU through the prior staff and a friend on the team, but had given up hope after the coaching change and committed elsewhere. Said

We are super excited. After meeting the coaches it sure feels like change is happening. Lots of energy and their vision we loved.

      • Did Robinson fill the last available slot? This class actually shaped up pretty decently, better that it looked like a month ago anyway.

        • 2 scholarships left by my count. 1 is hopefully going to be Hunt. The other I could see used to pick up a grad transfer at RB or some other position of need later in the offseason. Good to have a spot left for that flexibility in case a Thomas Tyner becomes available like last year.

      • Awesome to hear, would expect CJS to support a strong PWO program, and glad it’s working out for this young man. LOVE the emphasis on DL and OL. Any word on that other kid, with the Army offer?

        • Nothing new with that kid. Hunt is the priority at WR, so I dont expect to hear anytbing about Brown unless we decide we REALLY need another WR before signing day and Hunt goes elsewhere

  33. “Now, go Beavs — they’re finishing this recruiting cycle with what seems like a whimper” -Angry

Do we still feel like this? Or are the latest commitments enough to make this class salvageable?

    • It could have ended up worse than it did, but it’s still not a fantastic class. Adding Hall or Hunt would help, especially because we don’t know who from the current WR depth chart will still be around in the Spring/Fall.

      My biggest concerns:
      -No impact JC DL’s
-Our QB depth chart still doesn’t look encouraging

      • Coming off a 1-11 year with a coaching change, I’d say that anyone with realistic expectations are generally pretty pleased with how its turned out.

Tago and Gray are impressive gets.

    • Popular metrics (based on stars, avg. quality of player, etc.) says this class will be between 60-80 nationally.

As far as “what” they are recruiting I’m encouraged; it feels as if they readily identified what was needed & made an effort to fill those slots. Perhaps being an opponent in the same division helped with gaining a sense of this more quickly.

I also liked the amount of social media activity I saw post early signing in terms of travel, recruiting, and liaison by this staff.

  34. I don’t think the Luke antagonists can really digest what Eggers wrote. They seem to have a problem reading the high praise a judge, a court-appointed therapist and a probation officer all had for him. Those of you in these professions help me out here. It’s my understanding that the system is geared to come down hard on people accused of child molestation. It’s so understood that the courts are this way, that innocent people plead guilty all the time.

But what they don’t do is then come back and praise the people who claim innocence in the face of a guilty plea. I’ve seen judges get red-faced about people who claim innocence during probation. Some seem to take it as a slap in the face.

Therapists are trained to see these people for who they are. Luke’s, I’m sure, is skilled in seeing the non-apology apology for what it is and how it’s given. I’m guessing s/he has seen it all and would write properly the sentiment the court should convey when dealing with his case.

In other words, the same system that is bound to punish him by its very mandate is taking the time to praise him while he defies his own plea.

You just don’t see this in our judicial system. It’s as close to the system admitting that he was unjustly put between a rock and a hard place as you can get.

Then you have people I would otherwise think were rational coming out and posting stuff like this:
    https://twitter.com/KendallRogers/status/959243675309047808

I’m not sure why Rogers thinks this some “readmitting guilt” on Luke’s part. He can write that first sentence himself. I can write it.

I have taken responsibility for my conduct when i was a teenager.

There. I did it. What, Kendall, did I admit to doing? Did I admit to nothing? Umm… yeah.

But people see this from the bias of their own filters first. I’m a little confused by some of you here. Many who are on the right side of this situation now just don’t know how to be on the right side because of the very language that you’ve developed when being on the wrong side of parallel situations. It’s a strange dichotomy. Even Brenda Tracy stepped in this one when she attacked Christianity, though, I believe that was not her intent.

Bottom line, the judicial system was in a hurry to make Luke’s adjudication go away as quickly as could be done. Those who ignore the system that so readily forgives him cannot use the same system who adjudicated him to make only that point, and vice versa.

    • Well said, Jack. That is what I was getting at back on the 1st when I suggested someone with twitter/facebook might point out KR’s lack of reading comprehension. You said it better.

    • I would feel terrible if I am wrong, but I believe Luke did exactly what Eggers described. It sounds like the easier, lower risk option to just go ahead and plead guilty. The courts cut deals like that all the time. I think I would have fought it, but who knows what the thinking is when it involves family. His parents likely encouraged him to take the plea deal. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I also seem to remember one article that mentioned that the kid involved had no memory of it. It would probably be pretty easy for a vindictive mother to lead a little kid into accusing someone of something like that. A 5 year old has very little sense of the claims they are making.

Regarding KR and others who want Luke to come out and make a statement as to his innocence, he may not be legally allowed to as a condition of the plea agreement. Admitting wrongdoing is a stipulation of a plea deal. If you later deny it, especially publicly, you may find the court system coming after you again. So to get around this, they can provide the reporter with information like the reports Eggers quoted, and let Eggers / the readers draw their own conclusion.

      • I agree with you except to say none of us were standing in his parent’s shoes at the time and if we were maybe we would have listened to the stupid advice of the lawyer too. I would bet the parents have plenty of regret about right now.

        • The Eggers article said as much. “Since the 2012 court proceedings, Luke’s father has had experts of law tell him there were legal options he didn’t know were available at the time. Had he known what he knows now, he likely would have sought a different attorney. Given the risks and the circumstances, if he could have accomplished that without putting his granddaughter through turmoil, he would have changed the decision to have Luke agree to a guilty plea.”

      • I think it’s ridiculously telling that, according to the State of Washington, Luke can be around his niece, but her mother can’t, except for designated periods or with permission from her father.

It’s really hard to buy coincidences like this.

    • Come on Jack, professional opinion and action does not factor in to heartfelt “causes”. One crime fits all. I don’t think any of them took the time to read Egger’s article. They are attacking him for presenting facts.

  35. I really hope Eggers will dig into the Gary Andersen story. He’s the only sports journalist willing to go beyond the surface. Hell, he’s the only local sports journalist who’s actually a journalist.

    • If there were an actual story to be told, it would have been told by now. You should know by now that anything nefarious would be on the grapevine like wildfire if it occurred. But you’re clinging to a soggy campfire that never got started for some hope of… what?

It’s interesting that GA wanted to quit about a month before he did so but was made to stay by Barnes until it was untenable. Other than that, there’s not much there there. There’s only a really bad coaching staff that is no longer here.

    • Heh heh… it reminds me of the old tape of Marcus Allen playing QB in HS. He looks like a giant stomping around a bunch of kids. He does make two nice throws–one at about 2:30 on the run and one at about 4:10. But he looks more like a Derrick Henry at RB or an Anthony Barr at OLB type player.

      • I hope they give him a shot at QB. The size differential between him and defenders obviously wouldn’t be so great in the PAC, but it’d be interesting to see OSU playing a beast of a QB like him with a power running game.

        • I looked at the highlight tape; could people who are favorable to Tago as QB mention what they find encouraging in it?

Did he experience pressure on any of the throws?

Did he have to read through progressions?

Were any of the kinds of passes he made, technically difficult for a QB to do?

          • He’s not a QB. He’s just the best athlete on the field.

He’s scariest as a LB. He looks like a predator with scary closing speed out there. I honestly don’t know what kind of arbitrary ratings system looks at him on tape and rates him out as average. You don’t even need to tag him to know who you’re supposed to be watching.

  36. With regard to recruiting….given the beavers hired a completely new staff after the season ended and coming off one of their worst seasons in something like 20 years, I’m not sure what some fans expected. GA destroyed this program from inside out by running off players, inability to evaluate talent, and outing together an abysmal staff. Smith is finding the right pieces and Spears to be building this program from the trenches out….it all starts with the O and D lines. QB is a huge issue but GA ran off the best one we had. This rebuild will take at least 3-4 years to become competitive again. If he can get it turned around faster, that would be considered by most as a miracle. So, is this class thin on star power?..of course it is but bringing in the right players piece by piece is the best he can do at this point. So far, I thinks he’s done about as good a job as could be expected.

    • It’s football. It’s not rocket surgery.

If this rebuild takes 3-4 years just to be competitive, then 9 isn’t a good coach. There’s plenty of experienced talent starving to be put in the right places to succeed. There are some obvious weaknesses. This was apparent to GA and led to him quitting. If he couldn’t take reasonable talent and be at least competitive, he had no business being a head coach. I will say the same of 9, if that also passes.

      • Well, just looking at last year’s performances, I can’t imagine how anyone thinks this can be turned around in less than 3-4 years. You say this isn’t rocket science. well, no shit. Trying to convince “plenty of that experienced talent” to come to Corvallis on the heels of a 1-11 season and completely new staff isn’t an easy task especially if you’ve never been a head before. My definition of being competitive doesn’t even mean having a winning season. It means being in games that are potentially winnable. Getting recruits into a new system, coaching up the talent, building depth, and getting a quality QB in the system with experience isn’t going to happen overnight. If the Beavs are lucky, they get 3 wins in 2018 and then who knows in 2019. If Smith turns this thing around and has the Beavs competitive in less than 3 years, that will be a miracle.

        • Yes.

We should have been competitive last year. We were really young and had some obvious weaknesses. But we should have been competitive with the talent on hand and the experience they were forced to have in 2016. Now they have another season under their belts and are hungry to put it to good use.

If a new coach can’t take advantage of this situation to win at least four or five games and be in a handful more, then that coach was the wrong hire according to real expectations.

If you want to lower those expectations because you perceive extreme weakness in our new coach (for whatever reason), that’s on you. 9 doesn’t bring a new direction if the direction remains the same. I think this is what killed GA’s spirit early last season. A new facility should have put us on an upswing with a competent coaching staff leading that talent last year. It’s there for the taking, it being the already low expectation of just getting to a bowl game to sate the OSU-downtalkers.

          • You’re forgetting GA was the coach and McGive-a-rip was the OC. The DC was lacking in scheme work as well. We had players who gave up just like GA did.

      • I feel like I am willing to lend a little more currency to the current staff than Jack is that if the team competitive isn’t within a 3-4 year time frame, then Coach Smith definitively isn’t good.

But, Coach Smith himself also has publicly characterized the roster as not being far off. This makes Jack’s assessment above stronger.

        • There’s no debating GA brought in a different type of athlete. The team by and large is longer, leaner, stronger and more athletic then what Riley left behind. I’m not even sure I can say that position coaches failed. If you look at the players individually they ofter times do the right thing.

Our schemes sucked, play calling sucked, the players didn’t play as a unit, and we have no QB.

Good coaching will fix 3 out of 4, and a better scheme to play to the strengths we have will help whoever the QB is.

The team is not far off, accept for the uncertainty at the pumpkin lobbing position.

          • Agreed, I think that’s an accurate assessment.

I am looking forward to how different the players and units look under this staff. I expect to see a big improvement in tackling and in teamwork.

  37. This recruiting class to me, excites me for 2 reasons:

    1) O-line and D-line have been lacking in depth/true players(we have 2 OT, 1 OG, 2 DT, and 1 WDE)

    2) They have signed 1 QB and have 1 committed JC QB who will play 3 years in 4 years, meaning he could start right away, with experience playing college ball, we redshirt him and throw Willard, Moran, or Blount to the wolves at tOSU in September. Depending on how Colletto and other JC’s do, 3 early enrollees as well. The players not be “high stars”, but the method and knowledge of what positions to recruit as a new staff, is the impressive part to me.

  38. That Tago film is interesting. He can throw the ball a mile pretty accurately. Running he doesn’t look fast but a lot of the defenders take bad angles. On defense it looks like he plays a freelancing Rover position. Can he play in a scheme? Certainly fun to watch.

  39. I’d like to see a post-signing day post about Smith vs GA in their first recruiting session seeing as both got a late start and had to scramble to put a class together. Seems to me that Smith has done a better job, but I can’t remember what GAs class looked like and am too lazy to look into it myself

    • Memory serves: GA had less time. Got hired later in December and if you don’t count dead period only had like a month.

He had some more impressive athletes, but several never really made on to campus or transferred after year 1 (Paul Lucas, Taylor Thomas, Christian Faolu, Simi Moala). GA’s downfall: only QB taken was Seth the Great.

We have some player in that class though: DeCoud, Brandel, Jalen Moore, Jay Irvine, Togai (if he remembers how to catch), Elu (if he gets in shape)

That class had better raw athletes, but this may have better football players who will be contributors 2-3 years from now.

      • Not sure if you’re doing it on purpose but it looks like you’re using Rivals ratings for 2015 and Scout/247 for 2018 (which is more generous).

        According to 247/Scout 2015 had 19 3*, 1 2* and 1 unrated JC.
Same site for for 2108 is 20 3*

        Rivals had 2105 at 12 3*, 9 2* and 2 Unrated
        Rivals for 2018 has us at 12 3* and 8 2*

Gotta keep is consistent if you’re trying to make a comparison. DeCoud was one of the 2*. Gotta love that start system.

          • JC guys often get penalized and lose a star when they go that route. Unless they get an offer from Oregon, at which point they get elevated to a 4* “Top JC OLineman in the country”

George Moore last year was a 3* middle of the road OLineman till he got that late offer from Oregon and got bumped up to 4* while Nemec would use the quote above.
Give me a break. If he was the top JC OLineman in country, how did he barely manage to crack their rotation last year?

        • It wasn’t on purpose. I was scrambling this morning, but wanted to get my idea out there in regards to what you posted DWill. “I didn’t lose, I just ran out of time.”

  40. Is Shawn Elliott a PWO or scholarship? He looks like a decent OL on film. Plays low, good feet. His highlights were mostly him pancaking smaller guys, but the technique (to my mostly untrained eye) looked good.

  41. Looks like the OL plan is to recruit lean guys and bulk them up with muscle, rather than flabby guys that need to lose fat and gain muscle. Agree with that NiceBeav?

    • I’m not sure if it was targeted recruiting towards leaner guys or just simply those were the body types of the guys we landed.
Xavier Delgado is an example of a bigger/flabbier guy we had in for a recent visit. He was around 320lbs I believe. We just didn’t land him.

    • Michalczik mentioned in an interview that he doesn’t mind OL with athleticism that need to bulk up a bit. He didn’t say it was his preference, but once these kids get on a D1 nutritional and strength program they gain weight “the right way.”

  42. Regarding recruits and this class: I am glad there aren’t any 5′ 7″ neat deals, though we are back to the undersized OL hopefuls that need 40 lbs and coached up.

Men’s BB is a travesty of no heart or belief. Coaches kids who seem unable to bring out the best in the team, Eubanks still like a big puppy at times, no breaks ever by refs, turnovers and timely fouls change games. Wasted year without a true PG from the start. I think Tinkle gambled and it blew up on him.

OSU baseball isn’t even fun to think about because of the SJW nonsense that will be piled on from every ignorant part of the country. Kendall Rogers is only the beginning no matter how much we hope it is over, it is only beginning, and will probably overwhelm the University by the end of spring, not because of any facts, but pure emotion driven hate and rage. It is sad to not really want to see baseball start because the Beavs and Luke espoecially will be in for a long season of taunts, abuse, and aggravation from fans, teams, umps, and eventually the conference, ESPNSEC, and OSU admin once they buckle under the pressure.

    • The argument about OL is pretty absurd, hate to break it to you but you don’t see many college ready OL in high school. Most need to put on weight. It’s pretty normal

    • If baseball gets blowback it’s not a SJW issue. It’s a reflection of our cultures inability to have a dialogue about sex related issues combined with it’s attitudes toward criminal behavior. Sex offenses combine these two, and sex offenders are supposed to disappear somewhere and live in isolation so we can continue on without really confronting the larger problem. Having someone who was an adjudicated sex offender be successful in a public arena creates a massive collision of two worlds.
