Versus Rice at 7pm.
I know expectations are [rightfully] low, but still, I am excited to see better coaching. That’s about all there is to say at this point unless Jack wants to chime in with a report.

Fwiw I was shocked/disappointed re how little talent there appears to be on the team. It’s hard to display your coaching ability when your players are not Pac-12 caliber. I don’t know what league Western Oregon is in but it looked to me like a lot of the OSU players would be lucky to make the team.
Also the free throw shooting didn’t appear to have improved much if any.
Possibly a way of preparing yourself for what to expect is OSU 47 – WOU 57 where as a couple of nights later UO 104 – WOU 55.
It’s looking like this is going to be really ugly. I’m thinking I might have the bio’s of the 4 kids who’ve just signed handy so that as I’m going through the agony of watching Beav basketball I can whip out their bios and think about the future.
I don’t have much to say about tomorrow except I don’t think they will beat Rice. Hope I’m wrong though. The coaching is much better. Even though they lost, I enjoyed watching Tinkle coach as he was very lively during the game and yelled out to the players to put their hands up on defense. The offense will come if they can get some defensive turnovers as good defense generates good offense. Tinks is a competitor and once next year’s group comes in, you’ll see an even better program.
I might add that Tinkle is very solid on fundamentals and this year’s group doesn’t have those qualities. I do think that if N’Daiye doesn’t get hurt and Duvivier and LMW hadn’t had off-nights, the game’s outcome would have been different.
Horseshoes and hand grenades.
Candy and nuts.
Crimson and clover.
over and over.
Sorry, I forgot about that. I got laid up by the annual stomach and sinus whammo. I should be good for another year.
I’ll get something together by the morning.
Sorry to hear you were laid up. I was concerned after seeing only 160 posts by you within the past 24 hours. Figured something was up.
We kept #BuildingTheDamnDam in your absence though, you egotistical self righteous son of a B! Just wait till next time I see you, it will be just like back in the day when you didn’t know when to shut your damn mouth (not much has changed) and would usually pay the ultimate price with a physical beat down for the ages. I still remember those girly squeals you used to eeek out while taking elbows to the face and chest.
So, sorry to say it You deserve everything coming to you
Too funny TP. You actually know him?
It’s likely since he went to school in this town.
It’s also too funny that a Duck trolls an OSU blog and puts on the self-righteous cloak of invisibility. But it is sad that he harbors so much hatred that a post like this creeps off his fingers. I feel sorry for anyone who feels the need to put out veiled threats of violence toward others. He can at least be honest and just say what he means.
But… he is Duck. I ask too much sometimes. But that’s borne of hope for a better future.
Actually… it’s not funny.
It’s pathetic and hypocritical and ironic and violent and ugly. I now want to meet this TP Duck and introduce him to a therapist. That’s a rather sick post.
TP = Throat punch? Or maybe he’s into buttholes and it’s tongue punch. I dunno. I need another napkin
@TP. So you are Jack’s dad?
Wow!
As ugly as his mind is, I’m not going to accuse him of being a child beater.
Pitino vs Pitino tonight baby!
I’m watching that game. Should be good.
Hopefully. Good exposure either way. Teams flew down to PR on the same plane and there has been a lot of good natured ribbing going on. Jr is really quite funny. If the team can stay healthy, it should be a fun squad to watch.
It’s so hilarious that with 20million payout from the Network we put out this kind of product! #printingmoney
Just put up some comments on Dwight Jaynes’ article (top 3 in list)…
http://www.csnnw.com/beavers/mike-riley-detractors-have-no-clue-how-bad-things-could-get-osu
Wow, what a lazy, cliched article.
Holy crap that Anthony Skinner dude is a bundle of whiny, shifting excuses.
Who the hell pays Jaynes for this crap? Who has ever paid him? I don’t think I’ve ever read anything by that dude that even makes sense, let alone has been written well.
Jaynes could have just paid Eggers $50 bucks and cut and pasted his article. Unfortunately, with the internet, aging hack “journalists” can still find a forum.
I’m tempering my enthusiasm a bit for the new era of coaching. I’m pleased with the assistant coaches in particular especially given CR’s ineffective staff. Tinkle’s NCAA tournament appearances were a result of winning the Big Sky conference. BSC teams plays a very high, if not #1 seed – thus in 2013, Montana lost to Syracuse 81-34, and in 2012 to Wisconsin 73-49. The losses were expected but the margins seem a bit much. The only time Montana made it past the first round was with a Larry Krystkowiak team that played Nevada.
I’m not trying to interpret those past results as they pertain to OSU mbb in a different conference with more talent but I think I’ll quietly observe and not whoop and holler just yet.
I think that’s why Tinkle brought in seasoned coaches, especially two former HCs (Rupp and Thompson) and a highly regarded recruiter with prior Pac-12 experience (Gottlieb). I have to admit I wasn’t excited by Tinkle’s hire at first, but when he brought in those guys as his assistants, especially Gottlieb, I was excited. The Griz fans I’ve spoken with have nothing but good things to say about Tinkle. Besides, outside of Rupp, his assistants at OSU, on paper, have better resumes than his UM assistants.
Yupper – and Gottlieb is the one who said he wasn’t buying into ‘you can’t recruit to Corvallis.’
Well, I guess its officially time to shit can ALL expectations and hopes for this season. Nobody is even writing about the Beavs anymore, and I’ve looked but Mannion is not on any award lists. We all know Riley isn’t winning coach of the year in any capacity either.
Just really disappointing, with all the hopes going into September now seeing only a few more games left, and none are looking easy. The season will be over before we know it, and then we get to watch bball try not to have a completely winless season for a few months.
We all know women’s hoops and gymnastics having success is cool and all, but I’m not going to suddenly become a fan of those sports just because my team sucks in 2 out of the 3 sports I care about. Hell, I can’t even pretend to give a shit about collegiate gymnastics. The girls are really graceful and limber, but they’re also creepy as hell.
My only hope is that Riley and his band of gypsy assistants somehow figure out a way to not be a complete embarrassment next season, and that Tinkles class for next season
A. Stays together
B. Are as good as advertised.
C. Our coaches know what to do to make them better, and
D. Can recruit outside the immediate families of the coaching staff, or
E. Have more kids. Also, only hire coaches that plan to have 1 or more 4* recruits as kids.
And hey, maybe Riley can right this rust bucket jalopy team enough to at least T bone ASU or the Yucks, just as they think they’re going to cross the intersection towards the god damn playoff on ramp.
But more likely, we will blow a head gasket or throw a rod on the way. We may still limp it to the intersection, but at our speed would only be able to register a glancing blow at best.
Do you ever get tired of pretending to be something you’re not, mister keyboard warrior? Or does lying just come naturally?
Meanwhile, fwiw, (O-live doesn’t cover those sports), OSU volleyball has won some Pac-12 games this year and wrestling is solid.
I’m actually surprised by volleyball and men’s soccer (and women’s soccer for the opposite reason). Those teams were so very bad and were trending down to the bottom of the pile until they got there last year.
Good for them.
Hey, Riley is just leading the Ducks to their demise … gonna play possum the next two games, and then lower the boom on UO….. yeeehaaw! They wont know what hit em….
Seriously, in the old days of Riley, one could expect him to pull off upsets late in the season. But not now. I feel sorry for the players.
I think MBB will be fun to follow. I project losing big sometimes, and a lot, early, and getting better later as now we actually have some coaching going on.
That’s kind of my fear/concern….is Beavs football just a season away from complete free fall…a la programs like Kansas or SMU…where there is no way in hell they can even compete? That’s why if I was AD I would want a new coach to find out if it’s the talent or coaching sooner than later.
Men’s team got 6-25 on deck, women’s team 28-8 I think. Actually, I think the women could very possibly win the Pac-12 regular season at 17-1, and they get Stanford and Cal both at home (predicting Stanford to be the only loss). Whatever happens, I’m watching for sure.
Maybe. It would sure be nice for the ladies to knock off Stanford. I can’t recall the last time our ladies team beat Stanford.
A lot of teams can say the same thing.
correct statement. However, to be the king of the hill (or queen), you gotta knock that crown off
I’ll be surprised if the men’s team wins 2 conference games and surpasses 5 or 6 total. The lack of talent there is just brutal. I think Duvivier, Morris-Walker and GP2 can be solid. Robbins could be, but attitude is his biggest issue. Other than that? Not much to work with. But hey, I’ll gladly eat napkins. I mean crow. This year is going to trying. If they can show improvement, I’m on board. WT has already paid dividends with the best recruiting class in school history.
Yes this will be ugly.
There’s different kinds of ugly. Hopefully we see the ‘we played with solid fundamentals but still lost’ ugly and not the ‘head-in-butt zoo-ball’ ugly.
Gene Keady comb over ugly LOL?
Keady is one person who should have actually worn a toupee.
On his mouth.
An article just came out on his legendary do. He spent $500 a week on that thing. The new wife nixed it, so now he’s grey and bald.
I don’t believe that. No man spends $500 a week on his hair.
No sane man… or even woman.
Sorry, it was $600:

I’m looking forward to the future and I think Tinkle is the man, but damn if I can’t get over that Tinkle lost by 20 points to a Robinson coached team! I know, I know, he beat CR once also. I just think he needs to do 20 push ups or something for that transgression!
Part of that was that Montana didn’t have any height. They kept it competitive for awhile, but without Brian Qvale, they didn’t have the same punch as they did the year before. If I’m not mistaken, Montana went still went to the NCAAs that year with a pretty good record.
The talent is horrid. The video of Tinks coaching at the beginning of the season showed players that looked like a so so AAU or solid high school team.. Eff CR.
snowed in over in Bend today–we are 6 point Favorites tonight???
I’ll take -6.
I had to check that myself and the Beavs are -6.5 on the site I use. Rice must be dreadful.
Rice went 7-23 last season. So, you could say they’re dreadful. Should be done brutal basketball but would be nice to see OSU start the season off with a win
good story on Chai Baker and his diagnosis. Likely he never steps foot on the court for OSU again to play. Get well young man. And take care of yourself. Life is more important than a game

Become a coach. Lifetime earnings are more steady.
He is lucky to be alive. A very good friend of mine died during a cross country meet his freshman year in college from the same condition.
Any expertise as to why the previous testing didn’t turn up even a hint of his heart condition?
Watching Hampton-Sydney v. Coast Guard right now.
Not surprisingly, every single Coastie has a very nice haircut.
Go puddle jumpers!

Fuck me!

Wow! this is some truly bad hoops.
Ahhh… the old FOD walk-down.
I do not miss those.
Interesting.
Cowherd picked OSU to beat ASU?
Did they legalize crack in Connecticut?
Anyone on this site knows more about CFB than Cowherd.
Canzano teased this story yesterday, about a woman gang raped by OSU football player in 1998 under Riley’s watch. Pretty terrible how this all just got swept under the rug and everybody went on to live their lives like nothing happened, except her of course. The social media days definitely made it easier for players to get away with crap like this.

That’s all rather disturbing.
I had a class with Carlyle. I only know because the teacher actually did role call at the beginning of every class (it was a 3 credit, 3 hour class once a week.)
He didn’t attend a single one lol
I loved those classes. I also loved the summer session for the one summer I went. Two or three weeks of concentrated study, and you were done. I often wonder if I would have been happier at Colorado College just because of their format. I also had a 300 level class in history, European History since the French Revolution… or something like that. The prof had a set-up where he lectured for five weeks and had two assigned papers and two tests (mid-term and final)… plus some homework. But he allowed for the mid-term to be taken any time after the third week and the final to be taken any time after the fifth. And papers were due along the same timeline. Attendance wasn’t mandatory, but you had to know what the hell you were talking about when you wrote your papers and tested, or he would call you out. I was done with that class in week 6 and loving what I learned.
Since tonight is Rice, I’ll relay one weird story. I took a class there that was dubbed “Bombs and Rockets”–Poli Sci 211. It was taught by some really highly regarded prof, and we had guest lectures by people like James Baker. I was cruising through this class until the final. And remember this was back before Tiananmen Square. The final was solely a blue book essay about what we as students thought about China. I wrote that population stresses and unrest in the younger populations would lead to an immediate show of protest. That unrest would be oppressed, but the stresses of population growth would not diminish. China would need to find new sources for energy and resources in order to keep an already poor status quo a reality. While they may be able to farm out their one primary resource, people, they would need to expand their trade policies to include the banana republics, just as any of the traditional imperial powers did in the past. And they will have to find every crook and cranny in energy to survive the weight of that population.
I went on and on about it well beyond the 2000 word requirement. I nailed every single point I made. And I backed them up with good data… all in a sit-down blue book essay.
I got a C- on that final from that highly regarded poli sci guy who was an in-guy with idiot boy when he was a gubmer and the prez. I hold a grudge over that grade. It actually was a part of why I left that place. I still have that blue book. It reads like a history of China over the last 26 years.
I can’t believe I’m still pissed about a grade from 26 years ago.
The gutless coach, our Mike Riley, also made it easy to get away with such shit. They made a bad choice….lol. But then he said he wants to be the Paterno of the west….
It’s ugly either way. But appreciate that he’s willing to talk about his side. That’s a pretty damning story, and he’s man enough to pony up his truth without excuses. I do admire the man despite what I see in his job performance. I don’t think this diminishes his legacy. But I think anyone and everyone should think twice when “they made a mistake” or “they made some bad choices” are the words uttered from a coach’s mouth.
That’s just a nasty story. If that was a relative of mine, I would be hard-pressed to not find retribution. I was almost sick reading the account as a bystander.
“…his job as an investigator for the U.S. Department of Labor…”
OMG
I know. I did a double-take on that as well. This story doesn’t meld with that.
so if she wanted retribution for these athletes, why put that on Mike Riley when you could have easily just pressed charges?
OT… seen them 7 times and loved every single second of every show. RIP Toy.

“Change is Gonna Come” is one of my favortie MTB songs. Used to crank “Together Forever” at the record store where I worked.
Another reason for me to hate the Ducks.
Drayton Carlberg, projectable 3-star defensive lineman, commits to Oregon Ducks
The Oregonian – OregonLive.com? – 2 hours ago
Three-star Oregon commit Drayton Carlberg chats on the sideline before the Duck’s game …
Can’t wait for the 2015-16 basketball season.
Imo it might be 16-17 before things get straightened out. Imo it will take another good recruiting class before there are enough players to make the team competitive in the Pac-12. Can’t do it with just 4 guys.
It’s gonna be up and down due to Gomis’ injury at first. But there’s more to this team than anyone wants to say.
It’s a sad state of affair with OSU football when I cant even give away m 2 Club level seats to tomorrow’s game. I’ve had them on craigslist saying I’ll take any offer and I’ve had them on both my wife and my Facebook pages. No takers. Even for free! These tickets are $140 + fees EACH at the box office, and the #6 team in the nation is coming to town. Ridiculous….
I’m betting attendance will be announced around 40,000 but they’ll be 35,000 or less actually there. I was luckily able to sell mine (to ASU fans but whatever) because no way was I making the trip from Bend.
Well, if you want a coaching change, you should be elated … ’cause empty seats is the only thing that will bring it about….
The empty seats will be explained away by the late start time ( which is true in my case, couldnt find a sitter who could watch my kid from 5:00-1:30 am.) Otherwise I’d still be going. Really was looking forward to these seats.
And these empty seats wont matter since the seats are already sold and the money is in place
yup
Angry….
You get my email this morning?
No I didn’t. I deleted my gmail, so you need to send things via the contact link on the right.
What is this thing where the beavers try to keep the opposing players from scoring? I don’t think I’ve seen it before… I’m confused!
I am frightened by and know nothing of this concept called “boxing out”……why are the Beavs doing this thing called rebounding???
So many unfamiliar concepts they must teach in Montana
You guys need to practice your Yoda.
And I, I don’t understand why N’diaye is standing under the basket. Shouldn’t he be dribbling around the arc?
He apparently was paying no attention to Eric Moreland last year.
Poor Eric – he was only doing as he was told.
It looks like the kids are buying into it. Fatigue isn’t getting to them as much as I thought it might.
Man, this is so different from a CR team. No useless fouls, few turnovers, good D, good rebounding …. who the hell are these guys?
So none of these guys were rated as highly as Cunningham or Roberto Nelson, none have the raw talent of Eric Moreland, and the coach isn’t a political celebrity, but the result is much much better. This looked like real basketball for the first time in six years.
*20 years
And that’s kinda sad. Jimmy put out hoops teams. They lost. But they were hoops teams.
What the golly happened in between?
Another thought — if this were last year, by now, about a minute left, CR would have substituted until he found a losing combination, and we would be behind and then lose.
Are you kidding? If this were last year we would never have been ahead in the first place!
Nein…. there were games last year where we were well up at the break, and then after we would fade away. The other team would adjust but CR never had an answer.
True… and a nod to the use of German… I guess?
Dr. Strangelove always comes to mind… or The Producers. Good comedy from both.
Robinson was superior at planning a pre-game. But he was so inferior at half-time adjustments. It was so plainly night and day with the dude.
It really lent to the idea he wasn’t a bench coach.
In reality, he just couldn’t adjust his original game plan.
But at least that only happens for a couple years in the sport which is secondary in gathering revenue. Imagine if that happened for the same amount of years during the same period in our primary revenue-gathering sport.
Woo-hoo! Whoa boy!
That dude would never last… because he’s black.
Oh golly gee neat deal… how might that be surprising?
rsteve… that’s not directed at you.
That’s directed at exactly the people who think I’m directing it toward them. Those pricks know who they are.
Hello?
If this were last year, Tinkle wouldn’t be our coach and GP2 wouldn’t be on our team… and most of our players now would still be sitting on the bench.
I refer you to the ifs and buts, candy and nuts, crimson and clover part of this thread.
If you care… I substituted for the “ifs and buts” part because it rhymes. But only those who care will care.
You know, sometimes you are your own worst enemy…
I am my only worst enemy.
And I couldn’t have it any other way.
Great win for Tinkle and the players :)
That was enjoyable to watch. That’s really all I, as a fan, ask for…just good solid play that doesn’t give me an aneurysm. If the play is solid a win is just icing on the cake and a loss more palatable. If Beav football played hard and well and lost games, that would be fine. It’s the way they lose and the obvious lack of preparation etc that makes it infuriating.
And notice how they didn’t give up the lead in the last three minutes? They went to the basket when appropriate, made most of their free throws and caused turnovers instead of committing them.. Only dumb play was Jarmal fouling the 3 point shot, but I bet he doesn’t do it again. Plus Jarmal played a hell of an offensive game.
No bizarre rotations or pulling out a guy after they just hit a shot. Everyone competed on defense. GP-2 in a huge upgrade over Roberto on the defensive side, but they will need to get offense on a consistent basis if they are going to compete.
They were getting to the basket but not quite finishing
That lay-up thing is gonna be a thing for me if it continues.
Even easier than free throws, we have this thing called practice. Lay-ups and the so many different angles and spins (we used to call them English) were once upon a time an art.
But now I’m hearing that shooting 30% from boondock is better than having a mid-range game worth a damn… and that makes lay-ups stupid… if they’re not dunks… or something like that.
Fucking dumbing down the… oh… I’m tired of cussing.
If you can’t make a lay-up, you are not a good hoopster.
That is all.
Won’t last, but Coppin is ahead of the Quacks 11-2. Ducks have shot an airball on a wide open 12 footer and missed a dunk so far.
Don’t bother with them. If you need to see them, set your search engine for Joseph Young and play it on a loop. Just like Joseph, the Ducks will make a lot of shots and a lot of noise, but they’ll end up back where they started… losers.
That was rude.
I didn’t mean to say Ducks always end up as losers.
I meant to say they start that way and have zero chance to escape their destiny.
Two weeks?
Geez, lighen up Jack I was just taking advantage of free P-12 network for a night! I probably won’t see another Duck game until they play the Beavers.
You think I take my own advice?
Last night was a constant hoops plug-in.
The Pitino showdown was a little disappointing.
Thank you, team!! .. and thank you, Wayne Tinkle!!
So nice to see Tinkle and team active and engaged for all 40 minutes. No more arms crossed and head down like with Robinson. Riley has much to learn. The right new football coach could bolster that sport too. GP2 has good instincts on defense and liked his leadership. Last year’s defense full of baby birdin’ is gone. Contesting with true effort makes a real difference.
What? No tartan end zone? No branding thingy about us possibly putting tire tracks on our thighs and shoulders? No dumb handles calling for Riley and/or Bobby D to be canned?
You’re not easy.
What the hell are you talking about?
I’m not talking. I’m typing.
If I must explain:
poopyriley/firebdc/I’madumbass
All the same.
TP Duck and his really ugly and violent mind? That dude is not the same as the fourteen characters played by the above. But he is well spoken, which makes him not some white supremacist type who might know and hate me. And even boner keeps himself distant. So who from the world of Duck might know how to write more than two sentences and also be such an ugly fuck that his mother would also cal him an ugly fuck?
That is the question.
No… it’s not.
Sorry Jack. Try again.
Why?
that was enjoyable for what of it I did get to watch. Played as a team and wasn’t 4 guys standing around while one guy goes one on one.
Who’s this Jarmal Reid guy?
a guy who scored 29 points. Last season. ALL of last season
That was nice. I did not expect him to be the “opposite” part of my expectation. He has always had this game. But seeing it is different. I only hope that he doesn’t only have it for one game.
Jarmal… very nice… except for that one play… you know what I mean.
The previous two seasons Jarmal would miss an easy shot and get pulled out by CR. He was playing nervous. He has a big body, he should be able to get his shot off inside, but note to Craig Robinson, he’s not going to make every single shot.
OTOH, if, on occasion, a couple of good plays came together, instead of allowing the game to flow, CR would call time out. Wonder how many games b4 comparisons end. I would like to forget the Craig Robinson era which lasted at least 3 years too long.
Jack’s analysis of each player was pretty much on spot with what I saw tonight. Very proud of the effort and commitment I saw from the team. The staff is fun to watch too. Keep it up guys and you may pull off more surprises this year!
“We’re going to keep coming out with energy,” Duvivier said. “That’s our identity. That’s what we’re going to keep having to do to win games.”
What? An identity? How can that be? They’ve only played one game and an exhibition. Shouldn’t they be trying to find their identity?
Yeah… it should take at least one-third of the season.
Watching Disney sports ridiculousness. Disney says OSU’s record is awful, but they’ve blown 3 forth quarter leads in their losses and may be over due. Ha.
“Be careful, it’s tough to go to Corvallis…but ASU is too athletic. Unless they just show up flat.” Allegedly, teams, after covering against ND, the following week only covered 2 of 20 times. Trying to generate some viewer incentive I guess.
I’m not sure the Beavs like the cold anymore than ASU….Go. Beavers.
BTW, this gameday show is ridiculous, as are the fans in the background…

Video of incoming QB James Pensyl on why he chose OSU.

“nobody else was offering me…”
J/k
Let’s keep in mind how awful they looked in the exhibition before getting too pumped. I’m just enjoying that I watched an OSU team look and play proper all the way through a game. I haven’t seen that happen since baseball season, so it was refreshing. They’ll probably lose a lot of games, though, as we all know Rice is not very good. But if they play hard and cohesive like this and lose the season will be a success, and then next year they can build on that once some talent arrives.
Went to the game. Looked much more coherent on both ends of the floor.
However it was obvious this team will not win many in conference play. Duvivier struggled at times bringing the ball up the court and he picked up his dribble several times far from the basket. Payton looks like he’ll be the primary ball handler in conference play. Teams will press the beavs without a consistent ball handler. With Gomis out, the beavs will struggle against teams with legit big men. Olaf is just too weak inside.
The rotation was very limited. From what I could see only 7 guys were in the rotation.
Funny moment in game, Robbins was standing near the OSU bench and Tinkle wanted him to move so he gave him a good two hand shove in the back.
I think Gomis is out for about another 3 weeks.
FWIW – According to Eggers Gomis will begin full practice on Monday and hopes to return as soon as next Friday against Oral Roberts.

Calling tonight’s game as I see it. ASU 47, Beavs 17. More excuses by Riley in post game while smacking on Wrigley’s juicy fruit. Half the fans will leave before the end of the 3rd quarter with half of those by halftime. The few fans still there in the 4th will have empty stares that will be broadcast to the nation on ESPN. Another embarassment with a national audience witnessing that Beavers football stinks. Welcome to the bottom of the barrel. Riley wets his panties for the upteenth time. This beatdown getting Canzano to admit Riley is a lost cause is the only positive that may come.
I think it’s alfalfa flavored Chicklets but you may be right. Question: Do the pollys still give Barney an ovation for the post game with that homer Preece? No wonder he feels safe in his job, the idiots applaud even after a beat down. Gotta be the only school in the country that does this weird shit.
We lose by 24+ and that’s only if Graham pulls his starters. Could you imagine what kind of woodshed reaction/coaching that Graham would give to #10 after another false start? Riley just looks down and shivers since he’s only weighs 143lbs. Eff Riley!
The win honestly just gives me hope; I am very aware of the talent on the team and just the fact that out of 18 conference games, the other side will simply be more talented point blank 14 guaranteed times. But scrape together a few wins in conference. Get a couple more of these easier games at home. Play well on a consistent basis, and no one is complaining when at the end of the year your team is 8-23.
I mean, they looked like they were having fun, the offense actually made sense, the defense was pesky but still has to be shored up (a lot of times Rice would swing to an open corner three, but they were attacking correctly as all. Doesn’t take a genius to notice how Tinkle would have his wing help off when a closeout on the ballside was necessary).
The one play last night that caught my attention happened in the 2nd half (this is how I interpreted it which might be totally wrong):
Reid was near the OSU bench, passed the ball out to a guard and just stood there like he would have if CR was still the coach. WT yelled at him and motioned towards the basket. Reid took off towards the basket and the person he’d fed the ball to passed it back to Reid and he scored. That seemed to light a fire in him and the team.
You could hear Tinkle shouting MOVE, it was audible on my computers crappy speakers!. I thought it was interesting also that Tinkle shortened the game for a few possessions by running down the shot clock before crunch time, it worked against Rice, not sure if it will work in the P-12
