  1. So strange that we’ve heard so many rumors about who the DC will be, but not a single rumor about OC, other than Ludwig, which doesn’t seem likely. Saw that Brennan and Andersen had a call with that 2016 QB, Moore last night, and Moore was excited for what they had to say. Gotta think they have shared their OC information with him. Also, Canzano interviewed Moora who said Andersen told him not to expect an offense like Wisconsin of last year. Gotta think that means no Ludwig?

Just got off the phone with Coach Andersen and Coach Brennan down at OSU….excited for what they got planned #GoBeavs

    • While I agree that I doubt it’s Ludwig, who knows what his offense really is like. Wisconsin didn’t allow for anything but Wisconsin offense. At Oregon, he was running Bellotti’s offense. I wonder what his style really is?

If it is Ludwig, I’ll be interested to see what he can do in an offense of his choosing, not attempting to force an existing style into what he wants to do.

    • I’m hoping for Bob Cole. He’s done an awesome job in recent years, would fit the vision and system I think Andersen is talking about moving toward, has west coast and specifically Oregon and Northwest ties and has crossed paths with Andersen when he was working at USU in the early 2000’s.

      • Cole would definitely move the needle for me.

Why am I getting this feeling that June Jones is in consideration??? As much as I don’t want that to happen, I could totally see it happening and I would at least find it entertaining.

  2. Over the weekend the Beavers offered Washington State commit Jonah Moi, a Rivals three-star linebacker from Riverside City College, who explained via Twitter that interest was mutual.

Glad to see Anderson pouching from WSU. Riley would have said ah gosh, he is already committed and it wouldn’t be right. Anderson seems more the type that unless there is a ring on the finger it is fair game attitude. I like it.

    • I don’t like see our recruits, especially those that project to be the best of the class, poached any more than the next guy; but then, on the other hand, it is instructive that our talent is getting poached by WSU and not (take your pick): Oregon, Stanford, Cal, UW, SC etc. etc. etc. In a way, the poach-ees destination of choice, like Riley’s Nebraska assistants of choice (or not), tells a story in itself.

  3. Hell no to June Jones. McGiven or Dave Baldwin might be ok. I was a tad too harsh on Baldwin yesterday. He has coached at some nice places like Baylor and Michigan St before CSU. Think I would prefer Beau Baldwin but that seems less likely than Andersen pairing back up with his first OC at USU or maybe getting Orlando and McGiven out of USU for DC and OC.

OSU’s main goal should be Sitake and I think Andersen has similar thoughts. If ww get him then Baldwin at OC might be an ok fit. I would be happy with Sitake or Orlando and McGiven too. Hope we get this finished this week.

Where is Bob Cole currently working?. Hadn’t heard much about him before.

    • Tough travel, but incredible opportunity for the program. Win and they are knocking on the door of the top 5. Also, I don’t think they will play another ranked team until they face Cal/Stanford at home in the last regular season series. It’s set up for a special season.

      • And, that Cal game takes place on 2/28 surrounded by a baseball double header with Grambling State. Last season it was a buck to see the ladies after a baseball game, wonder if that type promotion is no longer seen as necessary, two bucks?? Teddy Bear and a can of corn??

  4. After what I’ve read in the last 24 hours…do I understand correctly~~ If I pay AngryBeavs $9.95, the names of all new hires will be listed in this thread?

Not tracking how this new subscription service works….

  5. Whether you like or don’t like Dave Baldwin he is available now with Bobo taking over CSU. Wish I didn’t erase my Utah-CSU recording so I could analyze his offense more. Wasn’t a good game for CSU. I watched more of Utah State. Twice in the first half a QB broke off a 50 yard run (It was their 4th and 5th string QBs too). From what I have seen I would lean McGiven if picking from those two. I don’t see how Orlando or McGiven could pass on significant pay raises and they are used to working together at USU. If we don’t get Sitake (man I hope we do) then I think that current USU pair is an attractive option that would work well with Andersen.

  6. My gut tells me it is going to be Dave Baldwin as new Oregon State OC. Not my first choice but GA knows how it will be to work with him and probably feels bad he is out of a job.

Under this scenario it may be a little less likely we take Orlando from USU so keep your fingers crossed that GA put the full court press on securing Sitake. I like the Sitake/Baldwin combo. Our defense will be damn good and the offense will have its flourishes and be capable of uptempo. Definitely will be at the Orange vs Black Spring Game and will bring some friends if Sitake is on board.

  7. This is pretty much exactly what I think is happening/has happened too. I think Sitake was feeling a little unloved by Utah’s late offer of an extension. I’m good with Baldwin, Sitake is a great get, even if he’s only here a year or two.

    • I mean Andersen was saying in the Eggers article that it should be done “a week from now” which was on the 18th. So we should know by the end of this week, I guess.

  8. The feature by Mike Tokito on O-live contains some interesting quotes from Mike Parker about Andersen. (1) news of the hire “brought a surge of new life and excitement” to Corvallis. (2) About Andersen personally Parker is “impressed with his energy level.” Okay, so here’s the thing. This blog is replete with commentary going back at least three years, if not longer, that Riley was tired, worn-out, lethargic, and the play of his team reflected that. Parker, intuitively, knew this to be the case too, as the above quotes demonstrate, yet he denied his instincts and fooled himself into thinking Riley was the answer not realizing he was the problem.

      • He’s going to wear a red polo shirt when he announces?

Honestly, I don’t see the 4.4 speed on his tape. I don’t know where he clocked that one. If it is true, then I’m willing to look at all those Utah HS defenders out there running those 4.3’s on his tape.

        • Yeah, he’s probably not the second coming of Marcus Mariota. It is still exciting. Andersen obviously offered him and made a pretty big effort to get him to follow to OSU so that seems promising.

          • Well, he takes good angles and makes timely reads and gets the ball to the right spot for his receivers. His pocket mechanics are a bit off, but he’s good on the run. I would love him if I knew who the OC was going to be.

  9. Probably not a great thing that he’s doing this on a Wisconsin radio station…..unless maybe the station is just carrying it live but the announcement is happening in Utah? Anybody have any more info?

#Wisconsin commit, UT QB Austin Kafentzis (@mrkafentzis ) will be announcing his commitment status with @SparkyRadio at 5:35

  10. Not as high on dude as some here..

He seemed geeked about going o Wisky in the couple of interviews I saw.. Seemed to be more about the school than the coaches

  11. Statement from Kafentzis’ father:

“The reason for Austin going on a Wisconsin radio show to announce his decision is because he is a stand-up guy that has been extremely loyal to Wisconsin and in return the fans have been great towards him. He never liked this part of recruiting and wants to get the decision over with quickly and felt that the Wisconsin fans should be the first to hear his decision. After talking with both coaches over the last week, he has come to the decision that is best for him and his future.”

Sitake and Tuiaki to Oregon State? That’s a big deal. Those 2 are complete studs.

      • Kauha’aha’a can coach OLB’s or ILB’s… or both.

And what is a really neat deal is that the two best backer prospects out of Utah are still uncommitted but were offered by Wiscy and Utah. I’m not saying either will end up here with such a short window for recruiting, but their primary recruiters at those two schools are/were Kauha’aha’a and Tuiaki.

          • They’re rather easy. I lived in Hawai’i, so it’s even easier. But a decent rule of thumb is that the vowels are ah, ay, ee, oh and yoo. And each of them is pronounced. Say it slowly a couple time first, then you understand how the name Kai ends up being pronounced Kigh by friends but Kah-ee by family. It’s a subtle difference when spoken at a normal rate.

It’s also easier to learn this stuff in Hawai’i because they speak at a much more relaxed pace as well. What confuses me is when we get into other Poly cultures and how they end up with consonant sounds that aren’t even in a name or word or variable vowel sounds… like Mageo.

  15. Edit: now confirmed with lots of independent Utah news sources… Awesome!!

Not that this isn't already out there but just recieved personal confirmation on Sitake and tuiaki…..both are gone— Tony Jones (@Tjonessltrib) December 23, 2014
