Should I even create this? It’s unrelated to the Beavs, and honestly I don’t give a hoot who wins.

We know what’s at stake:

If the Ducks win, it’s good for Pac-12 respectability.

However, if the Ducks win, it gives Duck fans bragging rights. But really, who brags anymore? If any of your friends give you flack or act like they won the NT, just remind them they’re being pathetic and:

Basking in reflected glory (BIRGing) is a self-serving cognition whereby an individual associates themselves with known successful others such that the winner’s success becomes the individual’s own accomplishment

Unless they suited up for the game they did jack shit, and cheering for young men you don’t know is kind of eerie. We root for the uniform, school pride, etc, and if our school wins we should be proud of our school not bash another school. Don’t see the need to bash Ducks or visa versa. Don’t understand those of you who hate the Ducks (hate = jealousy).

Just let the better team win and move on with life. I’m completely indifferent to this game and might not even watch. From everything I’ve read and heard, TCU was the best team in the country this year and got hosed, so these teams are playing for the silver and bronze.

Go……..whoever.

45-27, Oregon

  1. Nope, you’re off base angry. I hate them because they’re our rival, not because I’m jealous of anything they’ve ever done. If we won the national championship for the next hundred years straight in every single sport while they simultaneously lost every game, I would still hate them with the same passion.

And since the enemy of my enemy is my friend, go Bucks, fuck the ducks!

  2. Don’t see the need to bash Ducks or visa versa. Don’t understand those of you who hate the Ducks (hate = jealousy).

That is pretty much how I feel.

I want it to be a good game because I’m a fan of football. As a fan of college football I’ve enjoyed the playoff games and hope to enjoy this championship game.

  3. One thing I want to say, I think the college playoffs have been a step in the right direction. It’s too bad it couldn’t be expanded to include a few more teams(current system contracted through 2025), but I’ve enjoyed bowl season so far, and hopefully tonight will be another quality game.

    • I don’t want to see it get any bigger. Four seems like the right number. Yeah TCU and Baylor got left out, but they both played weaker schedules than Ohio State. If you had eight teams you would put in a couple of teams who quite honestly did not deserve to be there. By keeping it at four teams you preserve the importance of every regular season game and that’s why we still care. March Madness? Anyone besides us at the moment care what’s going on in college basketball? Other than Kentucky?

      • ?

I’m tired of this “importance of every game” bullshit line. If every game were important, SEC teams would play nine conference games instead of a bunch of directional cupcakes. Win your conference, and you are a champion. Then we can talk about you as a contender among champions in a tournament.

  4. Wanna know why tOSU has more than a realistic shot at winning? Urban fucking Meyer.

    Urban Meyer > Helfrich

if tOSU doesn’t turn the ball over a metric shit ton like FSU did, I think they’ll win

  5. I think the real question should be something like this: With the Ducks participating in this game, and Mariota winning the Heisman, should the Civil War rivalry even be considered as a quality rivalry anymore? I ask this because seemingly many people in the OSU fan base, alumni base, administration, and media(ex: Ken Goe) have adapted to and accepted the mindset of thinking that it is impossible to do any better, by constantly playing the “woe is Corvallis” card and selling the program short. It seems like those people have accepted the Beavers’ standing and don’t want OSU to show the initiative to do better, and would rather attack those who are critical of the program(such as demonizing John Canzano). A Ducks win will only ratchet up my frustration towards DeCarolis in driving the program into the ground. It would also make it harder for me to watch Pac-12 football anymore, since DeCarolis doesn’t seem to care.(He gave Riley the contract that was difficult to get out of, in which it provided no incentive to do better.)

  6. jesus christ. Mike Bellotti and Chip Kelly both look like they’ve been on the Linsday Schnell diet. Put the fork down

      • I don’t use twitter much but when LS was banging on about poor old OSU – I did tweet – asking why she was writing about the Beavs since it was no longer her beat and she dissed OSU when it was. She responded that she was only fulfilling her editor’s assignments.

  7. I guess I want the Ducks to lose just because I can’t stand what the P. Knight’s of the world have done to the game. Ohio State probably has huge donors, but I don’t know of them and that they’re so actively trying to buy a championship.

    • Nah, these games always have a lot of comped tickets for sponsors and what not. People just want to go to big events. To buy on Stubhub they were pricey.

        • The atmosphere in Gill was more trepidation until LMW hit that straight on trey with about six minutes left. Then it went electric.

There is no place better than Gill when it is rocking. I will gladly BIRG there with 9000 of my friends… one day. 6500 will have to do for now.

        • Probably but I’m holding on to hope!

I’m more irked over the rooting party, WTF is that… The dude who thought it up (ASOSU pres?!) looks like a hipster who should go to U of O or live in Portland. Civility does not mean using university resources to root for your rival. Stupidity.

  8. If the duks can’t win this year, they will never win:
    1. SEC is down this year.
    2. duks have Heisman quarterback.
    3. tOSU is slow.

Not advocating for duks, just sayin’

  9. Anyone catch the Buckeye reaction on that 3rd down dropped pass…literally player on sideline was laughing out loud at the duckie.

  10. I went to that party you were all complaining about…and there was barely anyone there. Just 4 Duck fans, and everyone else there wasn’t really watching the game. Just thought you would all like to know.

  11. In a bar in Tampa with Nebraska fans. Just got done thanking them for taking Riley and got in an 20 minute argument about how Riley was the answer. I feel bad for them.

    • How about the kid (Braxton Miller) who was their starter the last couple of years. He has graduated and has a year of eligibility remaining.

Miller won the Big Ten Player of the Year award in 2012 and ’13.

Would he fit in GA’s system?

  12. I think the feeling is different for those who live out of state. They don’t have to see all the ducks fans on a daily basis. I don’t care for Ohio State but definitely don’t want to hear about the “natty” all year and every year following.

  13. Urban Meyer was instrumental in the development of the Oregon Offense system. If one person, and only one person in the world, knows the keys to how to defend against Oregon, it is Urban Meyer. Big advantage for Ohio State. Duck haters are in some ways like ISIS followers, so hung up on perceived insults to the prophet, so full of envy and lust for success, that they cannot see that supporting the Ducks is In their best interest.

  14. I could be wrong but I think Mb’s got it wrong. Based on stories like this it sounds like it’s just the opposite of what Mb says:

Sharing secrets: How do Ohio State, Oregon trade tips?

When Ohio State’s Urban Meyer took a year off from coaching, he made a trip to Oregon to see how Chip Kelly was running the Ducks.

Both Meyer and Kelly had an affinity for spread offenses, but Xs and Os were not necessarily Meyer’s most important takeaway. Oregon had become a program in synch from top to bottom, from ball boys to the quarterbacks.

Some of the former Oregon coach’s methods were nothing like what Meyer would have ever considered, but everyone on campus seemed to be buying in.

”You know, you go in (to Oregon’s practices), they are playing `Lion King’ music,” Meyer said. ”They have like a DJ at practice, bizarre stuff now. I remember even I was like, `What is this?”’

Now playing music in practice is part of the Buckeyes’ routine. Leading into the Michigan game, LL Cool J’s ”It’s Time for War” was blaring all week.

”We shared a lot of ideas,” Meyer said about Kelly.

After Ohio State beat Alabama to earn a spot opposite Oregon in the first College Football Playoff national championship game on Monday night, Meyer spoke so glowingly about how well the two programs know each other some might have thought the coaches were exchanging Christmas cards.

    Not quite.

  15. more Duck arrogance. One of their students wins ESPN’s lame poster contest by writing “Urban Meyer met his wife on Farmersonly.org.” Kinda stuff is right up Lindsay’s alley. There will be a lot of commentary about this nationally, I predict

    • better sign would have been “dipshit that won the sign contest got his degree from Devry”

      Urban Meyer’s sign?

      “Scoreboard bitch!”

  16. The quackers’ luck this game is unbelievable

everything bounces right freaking to them whether they had anything to do with it or not

  17. Christ if tOSU hadn’t turned the ball over 3 times already they’d be up at least 3 scores. Only thing that has stopped them is themselves

    • While that may be similar to basking in reflective glory, the fact is Duck fans would be insufferable if UO wins tonight.

I see SO many whitetrash Duck fans who didn’t go to school there act so cocky and annoying, I prefer the Buckeye victory.

      • “Duck fans would be insufferable if UO wins tonight.I see SO many whitetrash Duck fans who didn’t go to school there act so cocky and annoying, I prefer the Buckeye victory..”

Exactly. It hit me mid game. See, I don’t hate the Duck football team and actually like Mariotta. Then it hit me …those fans….

  18. Does this mean the Pac-12 doesn’t have the talent to compete with the Big 10?

If that’s the case then that doesn’t make me happy.

    • There’s probably few significant differences in size and speed between these two teams. OSU, despite their turnovers giving UO more opportunities, is playing better defense. UO missed some opportunities early too.

I think the advantage is in coaching more so than player talent. To keep the D playing well, despite all of the extra possessions is “huge!’, so many teams get demoralized against the Ducks and lose focus, quit playing…

  19. This is reminding me of a pro team playing a college team. The Pac-12 fans who piss and moan about getting no respect need to think about what they’re seeing. And until they can put that kind of talent on the field they need to stfu.

    • If getting more respect for the Pac means the quackers need to win a natty, I’m happy being Rodney Dangerfield and getting no respect.

    • The worst pro team out there would blow both these teams off the field. I would be absolutely shocked if either team could score a single point in that hypothetical.

  20. One of my favorite quotes from this broadcast…”The teams that have given (the ducks) trouble are power running teams, Stanford, Arizona” and there sits Riley who tried to out pass the ducks. This is the guy that is so well respected by his peers? These guys should be laughing in his face, ask why he refused to run.

    • He had to emphasize the passing game because he wasn’t able to recruit enough OL so OSU would have a viable running game. Hell, he couldn’t recruit enough linemen so he could have a spring game for the last X number of years.

    • There was also the odd moment when the Pitt coach was explaining the importance of keeping the defense simple for the players so they can just play fast.

      • Exactly, saw that too. “Keep it simple so the kids can play fast”…or the riley/banks approach… have a complicated playbook so the kids can always be doubting themselves.

  21. If anyone has an “undisputed champs” duck shirt photo from Africa. Lets see it. Im going to Africa in july. If i see any i will post.

  22. Following the CW blowout, I didn’t suspect the offseason would be this good; Andersen hired, Tinkle has MBB playing well, Ducks tank in the NC….

Most of all, thank you Nebraska, thank you.

OSU football gets interesting in 2015. Hopefully Andersen can recover in recruiting, spring and fall camps will be very interesting. Hoping SilverStream can get to some practices.

  23. I also called it. Texted a buddy midway thru the 4th quarter saying it would be poetic justice if Mariota the savior’s final pass of his duck career was intercepted. Boom! You’re welcome

  24. I watched the espn2 feed, the “coaches room” because I’m into the details of the game. Riley was there but didn’t contribute a whole lot but didn’t say anything real dumb. The other guys were younger so they talked more.

But If you can, watch a replay of it. They were calling out formations and plays before they happened and talked about the tells that OSU was giving. OSU ran a counter play several times for a lot of yards, including a TD run. the coaches pointed out that the left guard was giving away the play every time. Only at the end did the oregon defense adjust.

My take after watching with 4 coaches input, the fault really is entirely on the ducks d coordinator. Failure to adjust to the same play over and over killed them. OSU didn’t do a lot of complicated stuff.

    • Riley must be a subscriber to that Mark Twain quote about better to leave your mouth shut and have others think you’re a fool than open it and remove all doubt

    • You nailed it here. Their defensive scheme is a gap cancellation with the goal of being quick attack and penetration. They fill quickly to holes. Often the weak side linebacker is designed to fill the last hole to the action of the play. When the RB cutsback away from the action there is no one but a safety to stop it. I think that if you run trap and counter (Ohio State did) against them, they will be forced to adjust by stopping their up field penetration (their biggest d advantage) which then allows the power and iso to work so well. This style is a new development from Pellum over Allioti but a belief that Pellum has held for a long time.

    • Watch the replay. Mariota had a tell as he approached the line. If it wasn’t a pass to where he looked, it was a run. It was pretty easy to spot early on.

  25. Ah…what a great day, a great month (OSUMBB, OSUWBB, GA)…this is the mother f’n year of the beaver, write it down, bitches.

  26. Personally, though I have no hard feelings that the Ducks lost, I think Urban Meyer is a dickwad for the last touchdown! No fucking class at all ahead by 15 with 0:28 left.

    Fucking bush leaguer!!

    • If they don’t like it, stop it. Everyone knew it was coming, all the Buckeyes did at the end was run the ball. If they can’t stop it, well…. tough duckies.

    • True greatness like Meyer doesn’t both with petty things like class. No, Urban is the type of guy that wants to absolutely make sure the opposing team’s will is broken by game’s end.

He’s got 3 national championships for a reason, and it isn’t because he plays nice.

Too bad he had to go to a garbage school like Ohio St. though…

      • THIS.

Forget “class” on this one, it’s not like he pooped on Mariota.

Allioti on Pac 12 net now saying “Oregon did not play Oregon’s game” etc etc. Uhhhh and Ohio State DID with 4 turnovers?

        • They are given the ball within almost a first down of the endzone, and you want them to….take a knee?? Its not like they were throwing hail marys to score…. They did do the next best thing — running up the gut repeatedly…

The coach who prevented the holy ducks from a NC cant possibly be a dickwad….. rather, he gotta be some kind of fucking saint! All Beav fans, hail, URBAN MEYER!

          • No, just be a sportsman. Too much to ask it seems.

The game was won, all that TD did was show that he is a bad winner! Rub noses in the dirt.

It was fucked up…..unless, of course, Andersen does it some day in the future.

          • Duck weren’t too worried about sportsmanship when they ran up the score on FSU, keeping starters in late in the game when up 30, going for a 2 pt conversion in the 4th, playing on 4th down rather tham settling for a field goal in the 4th. They didn’t deserve mercy on that final drive and I’m glad they didnt get it

          • You are living in a tree. Sports like college football are NOT about sportsmanship. There are plenty of reasons to keep playing in a game as important as the NC. And plenty of reasons to show as much dominance of the opposing team as possible. Get off the high horse.

    • oh please. as many times as the ducks have run up the score on some of their opponents. Fuck em. Glad someone gave them a taste of their own medicine

      • They weren’t lined up to take a knee, not in shotgun formation. Leave the yucks out of this, it could be any team….

Urban Meyer, IMHO, is a classless, bush league, dickwad.

        • Yeah, too bad yer duckies lost. But pretty tasteless to rag on the opposing coach. He cant help it if your team and coach are way inferior….

    • Like the FD have never run up the score? Opie would’ve taken a knee… WTH am I saying!? He would’ve never been in a Natl Championship to begin with. Thank you Urban for rubbing their noses in it.

    • Definitely the big blocks, not those tiny flat ones you can never pry apart once they’re stuck together

Duck player on P12 network saying he wishes they could’ve ended the season the right way. You did, sir. It’s all a matter of perspective ;-)

  27. Canzano writing Mariota should return, and Ducks would get back to NC. I tend to doubt it…

I honestly don’t mind if he returns, but I don’t think they get back even if he does return; regular season gauntlet, playoffs…

  28. so based on the final scores of the cf playoff can we state that the ducks were the 3rd best team there. I still think Alabama beats them

    • Great nickname. Rolls Royces are expensive and overrated. Goes with the duck diamond unis. Still, Freeman was more like a Rolled Royce tonight.
