    • No.
They have a few good players, but a terrible record (7-14). Historically they’re decent.

We can expect Gabe Clark to go nuts vs these guys.

        • Yes, nice job by D in T.
Even got Parker to basically agree that “something” had gone wrong in the last few years of the Riley era.
Parker’s sidekick (who is at least partially responsible for the technical foul ups today) says it feels like piling on. Parker doesn’t entirely buy it, says he led Dorian Smith a bit. In response to a question about how the D will return to earlier status, Smith initially said of the new staff, “it’s better” caught himself a bit to stay PC.

          • After being told to pretend Emperor Biley had clothes for the last few years and seeing all signs of vindication since he left, I say a piling-on victory lap is justified.

        • If they didn’t value what DIT says, they wouldn’t take his call. I think they are perceptive enough to understand that things were going downhill.

  1. This series concerns me. As said before, the Beavs must sweep virtually all series vs lower tier teams to have a successful season; this series falls into that category. I expect the Beavs to win 2 of the 3 games, I won’t feel too good about that and would really like to see 3…especiallly at home.

Some things which indicate they are “not any good”:The Mustangs have about a .955 fielding average (does that return to the mean this weekend?), an ERA of 4.35, have given up 4 BB’s/game, and are batting .250. It took 3 errors on the part of SC for the Mustangs to prevail by a single run at home (BTW: SC came back to smack ’em 13-0 and 9-2).

Things which concern me: Baseball takes funny bounces sometimes so a break or two can prevent a sweep, the youth of this team will have its focus tested as they may think ahead to UCLA. Apparently, the Mustangs have some injured guys returning for this series, three games could be enough for them to get their feet under them.

With Casey’s coaching that focus thing may not be such a factor……..I’ve talked myself into feeling a (very) little better.

    • Sweeping all series against lower level teams isn’t a must for a successful season. To get a national seed they would but I don’t see them doing it against every team. Every team will slip up eventually against mediocre to bad opponents. They’ll sweep Cal Poly though. They have 1 really good starter and 2 really good relievers, the rest aren’t too impressive. Beavers have edge in starting pitching and offense. The Beavers will take care of business this weekend

  2. Moore not as sharp as he’s been. Leaving a lot of 2 strike pitches over the plate. Hendrix chases down a long fly ball to left center to strand two mustangs.

  3. With less than two strikes the cal poly 3bman plays up and Morrison makes him pay, grounding the ball past him for a two out base hit. Harrison grounds out on the first pitch and the cal poly pitcher is cruising.

  4. Don’t get going to Reser here. Oregon State’s offense hasn’t been good for a couple weeks. Feels like this game is over

  5. Cal poly approach at the plate much better but it seems just one of those days. They’re not really hitting the ball hard but getting base hits with two strikes. Reser with a K and gives way to Bauer

  6. So what do you do when punched in the mouth? Clark pops out. Howard fans. Cary shallow fly out to left. Time to flush and move on.

    • Team hasn’t been playing well and finally had a game where the pitching couldn’t carry them. Hopefully it’s wake up call and they start producing at the plate like they were earlier this year

  7. Fox makes an appearance and doesn’t pitch too bad. Bloop single and a 4 pitch walk. Gets the DP ball but Donahue couldn’t get the ball out of his glove but Fox ends the inning with a K

    • Well what i wrote was:
“In theory they should sweep, but baseball is a bizarre game. We’ll see.”

Never predicted a sweep or even a series win. Also pointed out they had some good players (I think 3 were drafted). But I live in the area, and they are not viewed as having a strong team.

I’ve watched enough baseball to know record means nothing in this sport. Anyone betting on baseball, for example, would go broke. It’s only over a very long season can you deduce anything. It’s the nature of the game.

    • I forgot the one rule I always follow this time of year. Never doubt an Izzo team. I got lazy and forgot this rule. I’ve won mucho gelt remembering this rule in the past.

      Oh well. Live another day.

      • It’s uncanny. Meechicken State can middle thru an entire season, wind up in the middle of the pack, but come tournament time, they’re nails and usually make a deep run……………….

2014–15 Michigan State 27–11 12–6 NCAA (Elite Eight and still in it)

That’s 18 straight years in the tournament and only 3 times have they been knocked out in the first round and not since 2006.

        • Izzo is great. Unique in that he is a very successful coach that is both respected and liked by the opposing fan bases in the B1G. He is gracious in victory and defeat and his ex players genuinely love the guy. His team this year did not play up to their normal standards, with dumb mistakes and somewhat weak rebounding. Goph’s actually beat them, late in the season, in East Lansing for the first time since ’97. Izzo is interesting to watch in person. When he pulls a player for doing something stupid, he always addresses the player and corrects the error before setting him down with a pat on the butt. No screaming and yelling. He is winning with very good, but not super elite players that generally stick around and get better year to year. Trice, Dawson, and Valentine have been through the wars and are excellent players. Hard to not like a Tom Izzo team.

          • Izzo seems very genuine when interviewed. I root against Kentucky, Duke, Arizona and Norh Carolina, but usually for Sparty. Glad there is one elite coach out there who still feels like a normal Joe.

  8. The one hitter in the mlb; pat Casey pitching techniques; California prospects who like Oregon State Beavers; Oregon State Beavers footprint national rankings; Oregon state awards; Current women’s better than 1982 men’s basketball.

    • Are you google-planting?

Oregon State Beavers will not stop you from mentioning recruiting, best college towns, top research universities and ridicule of climate change deniers.

Ted Cruz is just guano loco. How is this guy even a thing?

        • As stupid as I think Texas is in reality, I would never accuse them of Ted Cruz stupidity. I just want to put that out there. One monumentally stupid ignoramus for the ages does not a state make.

And I make this consolation knowing that idiot boy and Rick Perry claim this lowland as their home. That’s a really, really low bar that apparently was seen as a challenge for low-ness.

          • I wish I loved money. If I did, I would be a Texas Republican. One of my best friends from college is a GOP “strategist” in Texas, and he has to be the most cynical person I know. He’s rich as fuck and unhappy because his only friends are liberals like me… who accept him because we knew him from way back when. He wouldn’t be caught dead with the people he doesn’t want voting.

And if you think that last line was of my own imagination, think again.

    • Beavs need to get the last two games. It feels like the baseball media is looking for a reason to keep them out of the top 25. The two bad losses to New Mexico hung around for awhile, be nice if the same thing does not happen with Cal Poly.

      • The Mustangs send a sophomore lefty today who is 1-4 with a 4.88 ERA. After usc lost their first game to Poly they outscored the mustangs 22-2 over the next two games.

  9. Beavers are playing some brutal baseball. Rasmussen is keeping them in the game but the offense just looks atrocious. 1-0 after 5

  10. Donahue’s fine baserunning on a swinging K gets him from 1st to 3rd. Noticed that, unlike Riley, Casey is much more focused on what to do next in the game than on celebrating.
b7, one down, Donahue on 3rd. New pitcher for Mustangs.
    GO BEAVS!

  11. There goes the ranking.

Still waiting for Clark to go nuts.

    At least it’s non-con.

I’m reminded of what my old boss used to say, “tomorrow will be better Steve”

  12. Wisky takes out Arizona for the 2nd straight year. Pac is done in the tourney. Also Elle Tinkle and Gonzaga are beating the shit out of Tennessee

  13. Andrew Nemec trolling Beaver fans. Malcom Askew is almost a 100% lock to go to Alabama. Nemec knows this and is fucking with us. Anybody with a twitter accoun should give him shit (I’m blocked)

Andrew Nemec (@AndrewNemec) tweeted at 6:43 PM on Sat, Mar 28, 2015:
2017 athlete Malcolm Askew (@MacAskew4) added an Oregon State offer and was hoping to add a few Beavers followers on Twitter….

  14. Funny as shit watching Whoreton waddle his fat ass out to the mound. Guy looks like a fucking walrus. Fighting Oprahs lead 3-1 in the 5th but ‘Cats have the bases loaded and nobody out

  15. Tonight I spoke to a punter trying to make the NFL. The subject of Johnny Hecker and OSU came up. When a Husky grad began to praise the Riley era, the kid, the punter, immediately stated that within the football insider community, coach Riley is not considered one of the brightest bulbs.

  16. Further infringement on our constitutional rights … SB 941. Rallies are April 1 at the State Capital and other places around the state.

If you haven’t already you should check this out and see what is happening. Big Brother is watching…

    • it’s a ridiculously stupid band aid that will not prohibit people who can not legally obtain firearms from getting one. But it’s “for the children.”

      • there are still people that don’t understand that criminals don’t follow laws?

Every gun I’ve purchased (legally) I’ve had to pass a background check

        • And that negatively affects you (are yer sister) how exactly? Oh god, you might occasionally have to fill out a form and wait a day or two.

I’ll concede, most guns employed in a gun-crime were obtained illegally; one random website I just Googled up says 93%. Wikipedia says there were 8,855 gun homicides in 2012, that means 620 people were murdered with legally purchased guns in that year. Some portion of those 620 people would have been saved by background checks. How many people have to be saved in order to make a slight inconvenience to yourself OK?

And of course, none of this mentions the 19,392 gun suicides (also 2012), the majority of which I assume were committed with legally purchased guns. Better mental-illness background checks on those people may have prevented many of their deaths as well.

          • I’ll concede, most guns employed in a gun-crime were obtained illegally; one random website I just Googled up says 93%. Dude! you just proved my point and you don’t even know it. If those 620 legal gun purchases were exactly what you stated, legal, then those 620 sales were subject to and passed a back ground check!

Thanks for proving the point that SB941 is a band aid that would do nothing except further harass law abiding firearm owners. And if you actually read SB 941 You’ve probably also never heard of the brady bill either. Individuals that own or attempt to purchase a firearm legally cannot obtain or own one if they’ve been convicted of ANY felony or misdemeanor assault. How about they actually try enforcing the laws that are already in place

          • your anger is misplaced. Since you stated that 93% percent of all guns used in a crime were obtained illegally, why do you focus in the 7% that were not?

          • It’s pretty simple really. Don’t be a criminal or have a rap sheet. Staying out of trouble is actually pretty easy when you follow don’t break the law. Consuming napkins is not a crime

        • I don’t think that gun control laws are put in place for the sole purpose of stopping criminals from getting their hands on a firearm. I think everyone knows that is not the reality.

What gun control laws are good for is to hold people accountable and further punish someone who was doing other illegal things. When a cop arrests someone and they find that this person has a gun that they obtained illigally, we have an extra charge that we can to their rap sheet.

If someone obtains a gun illegally, and then someone else uses that gun in a crime, we can prosecute the “owner” because he is irresponsible.

I hope CJ enjoys his constiutional right to protest his view that his constutional rights are somehow being violated.

          • true story. Woman I dated a few years back, her ex was busted for having a stolen handgun and he was a felon. Guess how many days he spent in jail for that FEDERAL crime? less than 60. In a county jail. He should have been locked up in the state pokey for years. It’s laughable these lawmakers spout all of this garbage but DA’s balk at sending some of these pieces of shit away for a long time. Whatever happened to the punishment fitting the crime? Toughen the laws we already have on felons being in possession of firearms or actually enforce them (especially stolen ones) then get back to me.

    • I like their story. They got some nice press when they beat Michigan, but Michigan did turn out to be very average this year. I think they had a huge losing streak when they were first transitioning to D-1.

    • OT- but I think it’s time for Vern Lundquist to hang up the mic, in addition to the continuous little mistakes over the tourney, I’m pretty sure he announced to the national audience that the Duke/Gonzaga game was “over on TBS” when it’s on CBS right after the game he was covering.

    • Make a Costco run. Woman sets DVR to record MSU game. Woman does not set it with extended time so it runs out right as L’ville starts the last possession of the game. Man misses end of game and OT and has murderous thoughts towards woman.

    • You can take the decision and the ranking from the ucks, but you’ll never get those awful looking uni’s!!
      Then again, who’d want ’em?

  17. Raise your hand if you predicted 3 weeks into conference play that Utah would have more Pac-12 wins (3) than the ducks (2)

Upper half of the conference is very good this year

  18. Beavers vs Gophers for 2015 JC PF Chris Boucher. If he wants immediate PT he will come to Minnesota. The cupboard is bare in the front court.

What are the rumors about Gomis coming back?

    • Sounds like someone is leaving if they are looking to sign someone in the late period. Or Stangel is going to lose his scholarship to free up a spot.

      • Stangel will already be off scholarship next year anyway.

My scholarship count for next year:

        Freshmen –

        Tres Tinkle
        Stephen Thompson Jr
        Derrick Bruce
        Drew Eubanks
        Gligorije Rakocevic

        Sophomores –

none (Chai Baker medically retired, doesn’t count against limit of 13.)

        Juniors –

        Malcolm Duvivier
        Cheik N’Diaye

        Seniors

        Daniel Gomis
        Langston Mirris-Walker
        Gary Payton II
        Jarmal Reid
        Victor Robbins
        Olaf Schaftenaar

So, that’s 13. If we are really after Christopher Boucher, then either Gomis or N’Diaye are leaving, or Tres Tinkle is going to be a walk on. I’d bet Gomis is leaving. It’d be nice to spread out these scholarships a little better. I bet we take 2 JUCO kids or a transfer or two in 2016.

        • Since it’s a big guy they’re pursuing then Gomis is probably gone which would hurt the defense. Damion Lee one of the best scoring guards in the country is gonna transfer from Drexel, if I was Tinkle I would be recruiting him as well as Boucher. Team needs scoring and guys like that are real game-changers. If they landed him then they can say goodbye to Robbins and move on.

          • Shhhh…..don’t given Altman any ideas or Damion Lee will be a Duck before you know it and the Beavs are right back where they started.

        • I wonder if any of the soon to be seniors would redshirt next year. Would be nice to even out some of the classes. The most graduation per year is ideally 3 or 4.

I would redshirt Robbins and LMW. That would make 4 SRs next year and 4 Srs the following year. They will be fighting hard to get minutes next year but wouldn’t the following year, unless Tinkle signs another top class.

          • Boy, I wouldn’t think so. Frankly, I’d rather get most of those kids out of the system as quick as we can anyway. I think we can split the class up with a couple JUCO kids or a transfer or two in the 2016 class.
