Just some quick thoughts on the new QB. I watched his entire hudl film here, and what stands out is his poise. You can tell he’s very comfortable running that offense, and the game moves slowly for him. That’s great. But what I don’t see are any passes longer than 15-20 yards. He’s accurate within 10 yards. A lot of screen passes. It looks like he needs good talent around him who can catch a 2 yard pass and turn it into 20, rather than making the 20 yard throw himself.
Until I see film that shows otherwise, those are my thoughts on him. I think the 3 star rating is fair. He looks accurate, poised, and a fast runner. My only criticism is that I don’t see him throwing the harder, deeper passes.
Pretty good for limited reps. Really hard to get a good read on him since he was playing behind ASU 2015 commit Bryce Perkins all year. His few deep balls looked effortless at least, and if he was playing mop up duty he probably get many chances to throw home run balls.
I agree, he looks comfortable running the team and the system is similar to how he’d be used at OSU. He looks to have wheels. His teammates call him white lightning. Also, i like his quick release.
Sounds like he’s well liked by his teammates and is a solid citizen too. Hopefully he can help recruit some of his teammates to corvallis.
All true. It’ll be good to see more film in meaningful time. His poise stands out…I don’t see this guy getting rattled by much.
Would be sweet to get a package deal with his 4 and 5 star teammates.
The parallels with Marcus Mariota are pretty funny. Both “MM,” both only starters their senior year, both under the radar type guys… :P

Human interest story on Moran and some rare health issues he’s been dealing with his whole life. Seems the move his family made to Arizona really helped things for him. Makes you wonder if a move to the willamette valley could re-aggrevate some of his issues?
Either way, he’s a warrior because of it.
Also, his mom’s pretty hot.

Not to burst anyone’s bubble or be debbie downer, but there’s still 8 months until signing day. If this kid has a monster senior season this fall, expect the offers to roll in. And at that point? He could go anywhere. And get paid to do so. A verbal doesn’t mean shit right now.
Maybe, but to some people your word still means something. What I’m reading indicates Moran is a young man of high character, and it’s just possible that he’s one of those who believes that once he’s shakes a man’s hand he’ll ride for the brand hell or high water.
Still, this is a system where the kids have zero power except for that word. Until they’re in fall camp, the school can say yes or no to the kid coming for any reason. You and I would probably lambaste the coaches for doing anything like that for the same reasons a verbal commitment is something importsant to us as well. Hell, half the time commitments are broken is because the coaches tell the kids they should maybe look at other options anyway. So we don’t always get the full story.
But if he is told to go out and spread the vision and gather kids with whom he wants to play, then we can probably bet the coaches see more than just a player. They see a leader. If he puts in the time being a leader before he even signs, we can probably feel comfortable that both he and the coaches are solid with each other and are committing to each other with every step.
If that does happen, then I guess we can have faith in GA and staff’s abilities to identify talent early on
Or maybe he has the hots for his mom LOL.
I consider hotness a talent
You are a wise man.
Look, there’s plenty of reasons this kid was ranked where he is and was considered a better prospect as a safety by virtually every major program that recruited him.
Maybe Andersen doesn’t plan on asking much more from his qb than screens & quick hitches. He sees a smart and relatively mobile player and plans to build in the rest of the skills.
Seems low risk – low reward, like most of the new recruits and verbal commits at this point.
off topic, but Tinkle will be doing a twitter takeover today with OSU Beaverdam
OSU BeaverDam ?@OSU_BeaverDam 1m1 minute ago
Today at 2:30, @waynetinkle will be doing our next Dead Week Twitter Takeover! #GoBeavs
I figured our deep ball days were over when Riley left and GA came in.
And I figured the same about our continually adding to the cache of unused timeouts.
Riley was trying to save them up so he could trade them in for free AOL minutes
I had to Alta Vista “coach who used fewest timeouts”.
Nice, how did those compare to the Lycos results?
Not sure. Still downloading.
Wonder if this will be the only QB they bring in, wasn’t there a South Carolina kid talking up OSU also?
This style of offense would suggest multiple QB signings.
Yeah, but they’ll have 5 next year. 4 of which would be underclassman….Even with the offense that is a lot.
Avery McCall is the guy from SC you’re thinking of. He has more experience and has put up better numbers, but my guess is they felt less confident in being able to pull a kid from across the country vs getting a kid from the west coast to stay closer to home. This seems like a case of “bird in the hand”
McCall had recently said OSU was a leader, but he sounded like he was hoping for an offer from some programs closer to him, and that North Carolina, N.C. State, East Carolina, Appalachian State and Florida State were programs he was currently interested in too.
Beavs had also made recent offers to a few other 2016 QB’s.
Brennen Wooten-(TCU Commit)
Khalil Tate-(Arizona commit who’s looking around)
Josh Jackson – Out of Michigan
Darius Bradwell
Jalen Hurts
Hey Angry and Beaverkman, I’m going to be leaving tomorrow for the coast this weekend and anticipate having little or no internet connection. I most likely won’t be able to make twitter updates until Sunday, so feel free to tweet any news you see.
Coaches are visiting the Hawaiian recruits at the Max Exposure camp this weekend, so there could be some updates around that. Eletise is supposed to release his “top 10” list at the end of the camp.
Another new commit. JUCO Michael Johnson out of Mt. SAC. Will have 3 years to play 2. Arrives on campus Jan 2016.
https://twitter.com/BeavRecruiting/status/606566925791993856
Why would he be 3 for 2? More likely 4 to play 4.
He committed to Louisville for the class of 2013, but ended up at a JUCO (forget the name of the school now) Tried to transfer to Louisville in 2014, but one of his classes wouldn’t let him transfer (similar to Cook, who we also got from Louisville recently) Will be at Mt.SAC for 2015 season before coming to OSU.
He was HS class of 2014 and it’s ASA College you’re trying to think of, but he didn’t play there either. And since ASA was a start-up program, they weren’t official yet so I don’t think his clock would have even started yet even if they did have an official team.
If he DOES end up playing at Mt. Sac, I guess he’d be 4 to play 3.
Just found it, he is 4 to play 3.

Cool, thanks Whatever. Good find.
Tough to dig up info on this guy. Probably doesn’t help that Michael Johnson isn’t a very unique name. I’ll take an extra year.
I even retweeted that tweet about him being a 4×3 back in May. My bad. Tough to keep all of the recruiting info straight sometimes.
Ha, hard to keep track of for sure. There are approximately 5 million Michael Johnson’s and they all play football.
I was confused too because he committed to Louisville so early a lot of places listed him as class of 2013.
Some low quality video I believe is of the correct Michael Johnson, from 2013. Tough to find film on this guy. Listed as a safety. dude hits hard. Had a pretty impressive offer list in 2014. 2 years of community college worries me a little. A little Peko-esque possibly?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVjqrpgUu1M
Check out the roster, he didn’t play football at Mt. Sac.
See above. He’s playing for Mt. SAC in 2015, then transferring to OSU at the start of 2016.

I’m just guessing, but I think we’ll be getting a commitment from kicker Blake Levin shortly as well. We shall see
Look closely for Michael Eletise’s t-shirt…..

Does it have a picture of an imaginary girlfriend?
Meant to vote up not down

Malik Gilmore called to thank me for my donation. That was odd. I was almost like “dude, want to do an interview for AB??” but bit my tongue.
I got the same call! Did they have the players call under the Riley regime? I just donated for the first time after the Andersen hire, and it wasn’t a ton, which is what made it interesting that they still gave me a call.
Without much threat in the seams and down the sidelines, the Beavers will have to rely on truckloads of misdirection and short dump offs.
It all comes down to production from the running back position in this system, will be interesting to see if Woods/Brown/anyone has the ability to step up consistently over an entire season.
Literally the first throw in the video is 35 yards.
Literally the second throw is 30+ yards.
Just saying.
I like your style
I rewatched. Yes, they are in the 30-35 yard range.
It’s good to be talking about football again. Love basketball, love baseball, but really, it’s the best time of the year when I can start jigging herring, think about Chinook heading up the Yaquina, and talk football on AB. I love the fall in Oregon and feel blessed to live here.
Ok, so the 2 Buck Chuck is talking. I know it’s not even summer yet, you ABer’s know what I was trying to say…help me out here Jack, you fish.
Just waiting for the announcement for coastal streams. Should be next week. The regs for coast and Columbia were pretty good. Counts should be better than last year.
I’m partial to the Siuslaw, but that’s because I can hit it with a rock from my house…
Well… sucks to be you.
How so?
Jack doesn’t care for Vets. He believes what John Kerry said.
Good for him.
Tongue in cheek… facetious… don’t listen to the sack of whiny shit above… he believes he knows something about something.
You can, and it is worthwhile, to fish the Yaquina? I used to work on a gauging station on it, I hated that river. So lazy. Guess I saw a few fish in it.
Along the mid-coast, loved the Drift Creek that empties into Alsea Bay. The Siletz would be the best if it weren’t for all the logging. Too bad that watershed isn’t part of the Siuslaw N.F.
Drift Creek is some great hiking too. It’s funny someone named Jim touts the Alsea. I’ve learned quite a bit about the fall chinook on that river from someone named Jim.
The best fishing on the Yaquina is up by Toledo and Elk City. Let in on the ramp near the Toledo airport, and you usually have the river to yourself. The cutthroat season opened a two weeks ago, so you’ll see people up near Big Elk Creek. But nobody thinks to move up there for the fall run.
I catch my fish at Riverbend and the Oyster House early, later, in October, I put in at the airport and even later, Canyon Quarry. I love the Yaquina, it’s big, therefore I can do my thing, as opposed to the combat fishing on the Siletz, and even worse, the mouth of the Alsea. Never fail to fill my tag.
How can you hate the Yaquina? I suppose any place you have to work at would get old, but I surely enjoy the peace of it once you pass Sawyers. The Alsea has bigger Nooks, but it’s just not as fun for me, waters to shallow, rivers to narrow, to many people crammed into to little river.
I mean the actual river, not the bay.
Fuck you, Jim. Logging never affected The Siletz.
Your butthurtedness affects your reasoning. Of course logging has affected the Siletz watershed. What world do you live in? It was a choice made long ago for the benefit of the economy. I don’t know why that bugs you.
Did you grow up in Valsetz or something?
Can you throw the deep ball?
And what’s your eligibility status…
What’s the report on the former 4 star we got? Were we expecting that?
Are you asking for a scouting report? Not my cup o tea. He’s a safety who hits hard and who was recruited by some pretty big programs before academics forced him to go JUCO. I wouldnt say he was expected any more than other recent commits (Moran was much more expected after his visit). Beavs offered Johnson back on May 21st, so he wasnt a complete surprise, but still a nice surprise.

Fills so good
I see what Micheal did there.
3* hoops recruit Jordan Ford visiting this weekend. Holds offers from Cal, USC, Gonzaga and a bunch more. Rivals has him #134 overall in the 2016 class.

Slick video
That’s it everybody, I’m out! I wanted to stop bye and set this record strait one time before I go.
I’m either looking at transferring to Duke or Kentucky, but may be decision too look at uther opshions as well. Like over seas as well. Maybe take a year to lift weights and play against guys like LeBron as well.
I’m calling a few agents to get their side of the story and one of them will set me up for training calendar where it will tell me what to every day exactly and no more ifs ands or butts this time.
I’m on that NBA grind now and not couch Stinky Tinky or any of you all can do nuttin bout it so PEACE OUT.
You all can watch me in a few years dunking on erryone in tha league!! For reall
We look forward to watching your long and train wreck of a career in the NBDL
Hope the door doesn’t hurt hitting you on the way out!
Must be significant addiction issues. Too bad. I hope he can get it sorted out.
Good riddance. Can’t trust him to not fuck over his teammates again.
I agree with you there, I was being sympathetic to his internal struggle about whatever’s going on. But maybe before he goes, the guys could give him one last kick in the nads. Would’ve been NIT with him.
So many trolls in the offseason
Moore credited much of his success this season to adding a change-up that he learned from Texas A&M coach Rob Childress while playing last summer on the USA Baseball Collegiate National team.
“I’d been trying to throw it since high school and nothing was working,” Moore said. “With coach Childress, something clicked right away. I threw it in a game the next day. I worked on it all fall with coach Yeskie and threw it in any start this year more than I have in my whole careeer. It’s a fun weapon to have. I can use it against lefties or righties and it got me out of some jams.”
Not a very glowing report of pitching coach Nate Yeskie in my opinion. There’s some other interesting quotes in there. If I were a betting man, I’d say he’s likely going pro

If he decides to return, go pro, become a florist, or whatever, I wish him well : )
Hating the ducks isn’t just easy and fun; it’s a moral and ethical duty:

Let’s be honest, UO is basically turning into a sports group and Nike test lab with a college loosely affiliated.
