Some great videos uploaded by the Daily Barometer, taken from the live Brian Rathbone Periscope feeds that people may have missed earlier today.

The Jordan Villiman one is incredible. That dude will be a telecaster one day.

  1. I’m not too impressed with Seth Collin’s tone or body language in this interview:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUfxYU2dFyI

I don’t know what to make of it since it was his first interview. But he seems annoyed and dismissive at times, kind of arrogant, but also slouched a lot and gets quiet when answering difficult questions (“are you a natural leader”), and talks a lot about himself instead of the team. Kind of seems like a punk who is trying not to be one. Am I wrong in that interpretation?

I hope this all improves over the next three weeks, because I don’t think the guy sitting there today can lead men.

    • Tough for a freshman to jump right into a leadership role and be expected to know how to handle the media at his first media day. I thought GA wasnt going to allow freshman to have media access, as a policy?

Had seen Collins in a high school interview where I feel he came off better. Maybe having the spotlight suddenly upon him today made him uncomfortable?

      http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qRo28uP_KrU

        • Haven’t watched that whole clip yet but started from the 16:00 mark forward. GA has an answer ready for everything. He doesn’t stop for ummms or uhhhs except for on a rare occasion. I’m just not used to having to digest this much from a simple media interview.

One thing I noticed was he was caught a little off guard by the question about the QB’s physicality level (around 17:00) His hesitation there has me worried. We only have 3 guys and it doesn’t sound like he’s confident in any of them as far as physical conditioning goes. He also doesn’t even mention McMaryion when talking about the QB’s.

    • I just see a young kid, feeling awkward talking about himself to the media. The setting of the interview, sitting and away from the table with his hands at his sides accentuates the body language. One should always stand when talking if that’s an option, behind a podium, or if sitting, being able to lean in so one’s forearms and hands can be composed in front of oneself. As to the content, he said nice things about his head coach and the competition with his peers for the starting job. I agree with you 99% of the time, Angry, but not here.

    • very telling from James: more efficient use of time (go figure; maybe that will pay off at the end of halves) and better conditioning. A critique right out of the AB playbook.

      • have also since seen Quick article posted in previous thread. Again: total vindication of the AB critique: OSU under Riley “stale, sloppy, and soft.” Good comment in tally below the article to this effect: how come no one in the media had the nerve to state the obvious when Riley was still here?
Well, if followed this blog you were clued in.

        • Quick has responded to the “how come now” criticism and to some guy who opined that he was picking on Riley.

(I)have been over at the Ducks the past two years, but while I wasn’t in Corvallis day-to-day, that was my impression of where OSU had trended

          And:

…I don’t know how you go about defending a 5-7 season or losses in 12 of the past 14 conference games. I think all — including Riley– agreed a change here was not a bad idea

      • Remember when I wrote that post about how the Beavs needed to be the Minnesota Twins of college football? In that everything had to be well managed, efficient, etc? That we had to make up for any disadvantages in creative ways and by being hyper efficient, disciplined, etc? It’s surreal….GA is my hero. I never thought we’d get a coach who thinks exactly as I do.

        • Wow, I can’t believe that post was from four years ago:

Build a business model by analyzing teams that excel despite having scare resources, such as the Minnesota Twins, San Diego Chargers, etc. It’s all about absolute efficiency with what you do have.

If our model is to be the Minnesota Twins of college football, as I claim it should be, is this the wisest and most efficient way to go about recruiting?

          This one is 2014:

Spend coaching time on fundamentals rather than mastering a complex playbook. What we see every year are college kids trying to learn Riley’s pro playbook, when 99% of these guys will never turn pro. That is an extremely wasteful use of time. Simply the playbook, and use all that new found additional time to cleanup the fundamentals (e.g. penalties, false starts, precision execution, etc).

    • Hold on a sec… you’re going to claim that someone using an app that is two to four months old is predictive on an individual level?

Can we get back to football please?

      • I have more information than you/than I am posting. I can’t share everything. But yeah, she is reading the site and using it as “inspiration”

        • Your obsession with Angie is getting pathetic. You’re gonna claim she got the idea of using periscope from your blog? Did the OSU staff get that idea from you as well? How about Gina from the Oregonian? Heck, you probably had the idea for the periscope app years ago, right?

          • It’s not as pathetic as blitzers coming over here to troll or to say we get info from them… in the age of twitter. And doubly pathetic is that they willingly fork over money to know what the world knows. It must not be hard-earned money, because I don’t know anyone who would waste money on a redundancy like that.

          • If you hate this blog, why do you spend so much time here? You’re not going to persuade others to stop reading it, so what’s the point?

Turn that energy towards supporting the team.

          • It’s a blitz thing. Remember when Jeff Perry stalked people and pretended to be me while spewing some really really offensive stuff about children hoping others would think he was me?

            It’s just what they do.

          • I might not have been around back then.

Is that JP? He’s a peach….threatened to ban me from blitz for being an angrybeav reader too, but then pussed out.

          • What was funny was that even though he had a bunch of posts deleted and pretended to be some of the regulars, he still wasn’t banned until he pretended to be angry and started spewing the same obscenities.

I suspect he was beavbutter too. Those recent posts were really tame versions of JP’s posts from years ago… and only under the one name. Dood just has one sick mind.

          • Yeah… sounds about on par with his “logic.” I suspect he was beavbutter too. Those posts were like really watered down versions of the ones from years ago… and all under one name (that I know of). Imagine the vulgarity amped up times ten, then throw in ideas that would sicken any parent. He was so bad, Gandhi would have beat his sorry ass into oblivion had he said it in person.

Now I just look at the guy and wonder how he actually managed to survive in this world as long as he has being as stupid and sick in the head as he is.

      • Someone needs to get shoes on these guys that actually fit. Crap cleats that look pretty are not functional for big feet with lots of weight depending on them.

Foot injuries are just buggers. There’s nothing you can do for them except immobilize them. And walking on them with very little pain is somewhat easy. But it’s not immobilizing them.

          • They make crappy shoes. They’re not the only ones who do so. But they are who supply us for now. Teams who switch suppliers report that Nike has more blowouts and minor foot issues than other brands. But that sample is so small as to not yet be conclusive.

      • Beavs need depth more than anything. These injuries could derail the season before it starts.

Losing guys in season is one thing, but before the season is just brutal.

  2. Who was the Angrybeaver talking about making edits the other day? Trying to remember….
Markel Simmons wants an OSU edit.

@KellSimmons5. (Juco safety who would make a good addition to the Beavs if he comes here)

  3. McMaryion looked awful in the 11-on-11’s today. Obviously it was just one practice and McMaryion was working with the backups around him, but Collins and Mitchell were looking way better out there.

  4. Villamin was especially careful in choosing his words because he felt earlier in the year he was taken out of context when it came to comparing Riley and Andersen. He was praising Andersen, and it was presented as a dig against Riley.

“That’s why this is so tough,” Villamin said. “I loved Coach Riley, he was the reason I came here. But this new staff, what they have been doing, it’s just a new feel. It came at the perfect time for us.”

Thought this was good, since people here ran with that quote from before.

  5. Hey yall been paying close attention to Hunter and Storm dem boz all yal gotz. If anybody blowin shiz up it dem. But none dem soundin happy up thurrr like fish outta water ya fo realz1!

Andersen gone be diffrnt dats for sho and it gone take time. But I struggle to find what dat man be doin in Texas,,, like it be off da map fo his crew. Dem coaches aint even comin round no more how you gonna expect competitive temas now,,, They stop recruit Texas an dat dude gone get his azzz fired in a few yrs. yall se,, Dis dat true shit doe.

      • How is it racist? God you are such a sensitive politically correct cunt. Control your white guilt will ya, it is embarrassing.

        • Are you seriously that fucking stupid? Or are you willingly lying to us about being that fucking stupid in the hopes that your cruel feigned ignorance will garner you some kind of allegiance from others who really are that fucking stupid? Because this ain’t eScmuck little man.

Nice misogyny slipped in there btw. I now know you as a fucking stupid or cruel little mother-hater. And if you want to say that you’re just being rebellious or independent, then you are that fucking stupid. Your choice of words and intended audience make you precisely what I just called you.

          • Oh… and if you think you’re successfully trolling, you’re not. You’re putting yourself in your place. You chose to defiantly support mushmouth and used misogyny in the process. Trolls don’t expose themselves that easily. This kind of “trolling” has to come from a dark pit of self-hatred where once existed a soul, albeit a weak one. Simply getting a rise from those who call you out for denying certain definitive truths is just a roiling, festering stupidity, not trolling.

          • psy101? Your analytical talents stop when you bloviate on 19-22 year olds playing games. You attempt to psychoanalyze anyone is, I suspect, a regurgitation of what numerous doctors have been telling you since early childhood. Take their advice and stay on your meds. I do not care for you, but I don’t wish you any more episodes. Why so sensitive, puss?

          • You make no sense my little puddle of hate spew. I’m sorry for you that you don’t understand that you’re the sensitive one here. I’m just resolute and draw a hard line against stupid little shit-oozing, parasitic ideas you imagine belong in the world of right and light. You are waaaaaayyyyyy left of the x axis on this one, your feebleness.

psy101… heh heh… bloviate…ha! You string a bunch of babble together like it’s supposed to mean something. I’ve not mentioned any 19-22 y/o playing any games, unless you think dufus the racist mushmouth is in that range… or you’re there and thinking you’re not getting pummeled right now. I’m certainly not analyzing mushmouth or your little splatters of worm vomit. There’s no need to analyze that which I’ve heard a thousand times before. It doesn’t phase me or sting or anything. I’ve been calloused to weird little babble rants of hatred like yours because they’re unoriginal and numerous. They are also very wrong and do hurt someone somewhere if only that stupid ideas are contagious amongst stupid people and spread unless rote and necessary objections are placed.

That’s right my little mother-hater. Your boring racism needs to be contended even though it’s just a confusing little ball of babble hate supporting a worser one. Just imagine yourself worthy of a boilerplate swat. If you want a bigger smack, you need to bring a smarter hatred than the one above.

          • That’s enough for me Jack. You’re getting episodic, and I don’t want to be responsible for you hurting yourself again. Take you meds missy.

          • Yeah… I figured you would run away. Add cowardice to your stupid racist, woman-hating ass. You are dismissed. Well, you were dismissed long ago. But I am now telling you, in all your putz glory, that you may now go away with the shame you earned.

          • You gotta start before anyone can give up. Bring something original, then maybe we can have some fun. Right now you’re not even on par with a stale O-live troll.

          • *life

Sure I respond. Racists and misogynists get a standard response always. You and everyone needs to know that shit doesn’t fly. You can continue into perpetuity if you wish.

          • Damn my long fingernails(life). I bet you were the HS football manager/towel boy. Right? Secretly watched the guys when they showered? Fess up now. By the way I’m a woman and my wife is Korean, so you’re way off track with your racist baiting.

          • You’re the one who chose to carry that water. That’s your problem, not mine.

Oh… and I’m a Basque infant. And I have friends who are whatever color/race/creed/orientation is suitable for my irrational counter-argument. So I’m not way off track thinking you’re a really weak troll who chose to defend racism and misogyny.

You’re seriously going to troll by carrying that water and then using the “some of my best friends are” line?

            You’re funny.

          • And the Duck shows the whole of his imagination in one fell swoop.

Nicely done my little thudmeister. You have now graduated to JP the Beaver status.

          • Newsflash Jack. There’s a big world out there. Nothing to do with Ducks or Beavers. Life (s.p.) is bigger than Ducks and Beavers. Yea I know, every libs best friend is a black, except they aren’t. I bey your pussy is bigger than mine you little candy ass ball sucker.

          • Poor Duckie. You’re really irritated about defending a racist misogynist and getting called out for it. I feel bad for you little man. Here’s a hint for avoiding similar predicaments in the future. Read these words very very carefully. I know you’re going to need to read them three or four times and use a dictionary and stuff… or whatever dull blah blah blahs a troll of your magnitude might write… but here it goes:

Don’t do it in the first place.

  6. I think GA is bummed about Tim Cook’s injury. I was expecting and it seemed like he was going to get his fair share of carries this year. Did he have 2 years left after transferring and not just one? If he redshirted he could still be quite good next year but if he does have 2 years left I hope Oregon State still gets them. Chris Brown at least is going to get more looks but I think GA is upset about losing Cook. He had a reference about practicing right where injury is less likely in today’s interview.

    • Said it above, but McMaryion did not look good at practice today. Not surprised he’s behind Collins and Mitchell, and I was rooting for him early.

  7. Damn! This from Mike Parker:

Jalen Grimble is also looking mean and lean, from 319 to 279. What an amazing transformation. He, too, is primed for a beast of a year.

    40 lbs?

    • Josh mitchel mentioned the biggest adjustment on offense so far, is no more huddles. Every play is called in from the sideline. Also pace.

I didnt realize we were totally going away from huddling. It’s going to be so strange to watch
