I’m doing a Q&A with the Stanford blogger like we do each year. Submit any questions for him.
Also, I saw Riley did a press conference this morning. Missed it (anyone have the video?), but from reading the Husker forum he is saying all the same things he said at OSU.
“Riley says conditions, travel, etc., aren’t excuses for slow start.”
So they’re not an excuse, but he’s mentioning them…classic. Slow start…classic.
Hi Angry…. Nothing football related yet. We spent last night in your beautiful community. Went the Knopfler concert in the Santa Barbara Bowl. Great performance in a perfect venue.
Back to football….carry on. JB
How can you miss with Knopfler? One of the most underrated live performers from the 70s/80s that still plays. I would put Colin Hay up there as well. Sounds like good times for you. I am jealous.
Collin Hay very good….saw him at the Aladdin — wife and I stii talk about him, good stuff!
I know… right?
Damn great show! Majorly (is that a word?) surprised.
Nice.
How did you like SB? It’s been so warm, but the nights have been great. What else did you do there?
I was reading some comments on Huskermax after the game talking about how Banker needs to go and many agreed then someone chimed in about how he’s been with Mike for decades and isn’t going anywhere.
Other comments saying they need to prepare to be mediocre. I think reality is really starting to settle in. Others are saying some BS about Mike not having his recruits yet, like they really expect him to bring big time guys. L O L
They’ll get it soon. That’s why I think we don’t need to troll them. Bikey being there is troll enough.
Be fair. Saying they’re not excuses is a first for the guy. So maybe it doesn’t seem sincere for us.
But it is what should be said. And it should be followed immediately by, “That being said, this is on me.”
We’ve watched two games where Riley teams came back from deficits and didn’t give up. So what if we never saw that at OSU? So what if the end result was the same as it has always been?
I think Riley is now something like 4-43 when losing at halftime. We had a thread about two years ago where I presented the numbers. That would be a slog to try to find it. But I think the number 4 keeps coming up. If Riley is losing at halftime, his team will lose.
I normally wouldn’t, and didn’t, care about what Riley did or didn’t do at NU. That’s their problem now. But he and Banker started talking shit about their former players. I’m with bendbeaver on this. Now I want to see them lose everything and go retire in San Antonio as the exposed frauds they are… with NU money… and pulling in nice PERS checks like Bellotti.
I’m more than a little pissed at the nicest guy in football for shitting on his own supposed accomplishments. He couldn’t leave it alone. So I won’t let him leave it alone.
Hi Dee. I hope your checkbook is a comfortable reminder of why you went to the actual corn valley.
Correct, him bashing OSU is the main reason I am following him closely. BUT, it is funny, too.
It’s hilarious he says they’re not excuses but then mentions them. That was paraphrased, so I need to see the quote.
If it’s, “I don’t want to use these as excuses, but conditions and travel…” then it’s just hilarious and it’s typical Riley sowing seeds. The guy is a genius at subtle seed drops that germinate the mediocre mindset. I mean we have NE fans saying they’d be happy to get 7 wins now. Amazing!
Even if the quote is him being more genuine and trying to take accountability (I wonder if he’s watching Gary Andersen), we know he’s being a phony. So that, too, is funny.
Overall Riley is up there with Louis CK, Bill Burr, et al for me. I don’t view him as a coach anymore but a comedian. That’s as a profession. As a human I view him as a manipulative teat sucking dork, phony, thief, and accessory [after the fact] to rape.
I don’t know that I’d be that mean. He is pulling in a guaranteed salary that outweighs most any comedian. So he obviously picked the better career track, albeit easier given actual talent.
I think you’re right. I think he’s watching GA’s pressers and thinks, “That guy is right.” You do need to post actual quotes to prove your bent. Just saying it, even if correct, doesn’t cut it. It’s fine for a coach to list all of everything bad. But then the coach has to say, “And that’s on me. I didn’t teach them to do the right thing. I didn’t teach them to turn left when they turned right. I didn’t tell them to push this way instead of that way. I failed to teach them, and that’s on me.”
Don’t most us think Ed or BDC asked Riley to make changes and Riley got on his bike and pedaled home? It’s coming out in passive/aggressive drips and drabs now that he’s off to his usual slow start in Lincoln.
Only Bo Pelini being Bo opened up the opportunity for the eternal nice guy to get the NU job. Otherwise a mediocore planning and in game manager with a mediocore staff would not even get consideration. Being nice sometimes pays off in unusual ways.
pretty much
I don’t have a clue how Riley got hired away. I’ve read the story about the hotel room in Frisco while he was down there on OSU business. I’ve read about how he’s some pro-set savant with balance I apparently missed. I’m just lost as to why NU would hire Mike Riley.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad they did so.
But why?
I mean… why?
And I’m just as mystified when GA comes to town and confirms all we’ve said about the heart of the valley. And he keeps saying it. Stuff like, “I can walk to [so-and-so] house down the street. We all live within five minutes of work. we’re tight. Everyone who is here wants to be here.”
I’m getting sniffles here. Someone stop me… um.. our coach.
How did I never get misty when Riley was here? Was it because he never said so? That’s too obvious for the sour grapes I must be displaying.Finding nothing concerning Riley saying something positive about his supposed hometown should not be a negative thing. Certainly, he’s not gushed about Lincoln and its… well… its stuff?
Sorry Lincoln. You don’t have a haberdasher’s chance at a roll of the dice… whatever that means.
That right there made about as much sense as anything you want to say about Corvallis. Except you can be blown out of the water with a couple other facts. AND… you guys are still awesome, but have a football coach we haven’t wanted for a while.
Can Nebraska take over his pension payments? That’s kind of a drag every time I hear Mike Bellotti speak. I can only imagine what the Nikegon assistant coaches who have been there forever are getting in PERS once they retire. Imagination is a bad Rod Stewart song?
With you mentioning “corn valley”……not sure if it’s irony, but at least interesting in a Rileyesque sort of way that a dude named “Corn” intercepted the pass that doomed the Cornhuskers. Aw shucks!
Use to be “Luck O’ The Beavs”……..”Luck O’ the Corns” now?
Corn Elder was a NU recruit also. They are corn valley.
That’s like an ice cream man named Cone!
I feel like I am in the dark. What exactly did they say. Thanks!
“they” said that we suck and will always suck forever because we don’t have an airport, and, in some articles, a mall.
That’s all I got. But then, that’s all they got too.
It’s much more nuanced over years and involves a debasement from an actual alumnus.
Oh… did I say that out loud?
Bigger hero to OSU football: Dennis Erickson or Shawn Eichorst?
DE.
Bigger loser… Bobby Decarolis or Shawn Eichorst?
Going with Eichorst since DeCarolis redeemed himself to whatever degree. Eichorst is in the middle of learning things the hard way
I think BDC owes Eichhorst a big ol BJ for taking his epic fuck up of a contract and basically tearing it up and giving OSU 500K
Yeah… there’s that.
Pa nub wu whiskey… even if whisky has no e.
Q: What happened in the Northwestern game? Will there be a letdown after beating USC?
Q: What is the outside perception of Oregon State and Gary Andersen?
NW may be better than anyone thinks. They look sloppy, but they can make it work. Their D is underrated. They looked at first like they were going to be blown out by Duke, then they just made them look silly. The B1G should be put on notice after that game.
We suck, and we have a QB who struggles to hit more than two receivers. Opposing QBs share the ball at a ratio similar to our own QB. Easy win for the highbrows.
Interesting baseball note: http://www.osubeavers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30800&ATCLID=210360894
Isn’t that just the official page?
Btw… we haven’t talked about it, but the OSU athletics page is quite impressive this year. And that’s after being very very good for several years. Someone is doing good work there. And that’s a better marketing tool than hype could ever be.
I’m feeling like the next two years are Casey’s last push. He has players in place. He just needs that one closer. We could win back-to-back again with a closer. I know it’s a coin flip on any given day… and dependent on hangnails and such. But this team will be very good for the next two years… possibly further depending on MLB signees/not.
Did I say we need a closer?
We had one in 2006-07. He was somewhat humbug meh stuff.
Kidding! He was why we won. Bring Friday and Saturday all you want. Every team who wins has a closer. UCLA beat MSU easily after we lost to them… because we didn’t have a closer.
Duh?
Someone please come tell me how much more intelligent Casey is about this stuff. Because I would not say one word if I thought someone more intelligent than me said something. Well… baseball would not be a factorial… nor would any sport… except maybe handball… the individual sport, not the team sport (which I love).
Should be celebrated, to many times we take things for granted. Market the crap out of this and get all the D1 premium players we can.
Monday presser live link:
http://pac-12.com/live/oregon-state-university-2
Wait for the sound link. PTN does not have a cooperative infrastructure in place… because it’s collectivism or something.
I always appreciate the exchanges with the Stanford blogger.
Wilner reports that SC ran only 6 times in the second half, so a discussion of the Stanford D’s abilities to: 1) stop the run (inside & outside) and 2) to deal with an unpredictable offensive approach would seem worthwhile. Will fast pace be effective against the Stanford D?
Also, what schedule will the team follow to deal with the quick turn-around?
If you can work it in, I’m curious as to the mood of the D with respect to coaching and results so far.
Ran only 6 times? Is Riley still their OC?
Pace/tempo never helped the hole vs Stanford.
Maybe it’s time to practice jumbo sets all week and rotate any 275#+ backup players in at full back. Let the fat boys fight it out, and hope Storm pops out for a decent gain vs the secondary.
Sark sucks
shhhh
No rotation needed beyond the Avocado Kid and Nall? Maybe give Peko a shot?
Would be fascinating if they did experiment with the extreme on offense. All biggins (8or9) and two or three speeders? Slam, slam, slam, slam, slam, whoopsie
Who is Stanterds back up qb? Beavs will force Hogan out of the game
I almost responsed….it doesn’t matter…..with Banker as DC, the inexperienced QB will run for 100 yards and pass for 300, but then I realized my nightmare was over!
Stanterd lost to Utah last year. Maybe Sitake has there number?
*their* oops
*theyi’re
I make that mistake sometimes to.
Ha! Well played.
*plaid
*tartan
That deserves a brand.
A powerful one.
Check mate.
How is the health of Hogan?
When I saw him play he didn’t look effective, throwing some inaccurate passes.
That’s Hogan.
FWIW, Wilner says he expects Hogan to play. Says the boot was a precaution and notes that Hogan was NOT on crutches for post game interview. Again, FWIW
oof
kevin hampton:
OSU defensive lineman Kalani Vakameilalo in a boot today..would be a big loss for Beavers going into Stanford #gtsports #gobeavs
Wrap up with the Stanford questions by the evening.
I want to get these over to him today since it’s a short week.
Interesting… GA cites Sitake as key for this game. Duh. But he also puts in a good word for Brennan as pertains to the D side?
Tipping of the hand? Or just smart?
There’s something there. We’re not trying to get a receiver. Brennan is in on a kid, and GA is pushing him. That, and Brennan has been beat up by proxy because none of our QBs have bothered to look past their first read.
They’re frosh. I get it. But we have a receiving corps that rivals USC’s corps (six deep). I got nothing for their top two. They good.
We better 1-6. Done! Do it!
Clarkson is who we think he is.
Good to know.
Ftr… Clarkson was going to be another Iupati. There is no doubt about that… barring injury.
I’m surprised nobody speaks on this. Clarkson played very well as a very young player. I worry about Fred not playing. But I am happy with interior line depth.
And yes…
I love our D.
Where has this D been all my life? I thought I loved the 2006 D. I thought I loved the 1996 D. I thought I loved the presidents.
I love this D. There are many coverage issues that need to be addressed. But they are in place and making plays for once. When the ball goes this way or that, the O player is hounded by one of ours always? Where is that a rule?
Make mistakes. Be better because you know what those mistakes are. Pass that down to future players. This is just good stuff.
Just don’t look at a turnover as an opportunity to let the opposition into the end zone because then you can get some rest.
Bow up boys.
Q. How does the Stanford fan base perceive PAC12-North this year? Which teams are getting better relative to the conference? Are there any PAC-12 North teams that pose a bigger or lesser threat to Stanford this year?
You guys will like this. Tailgating neighbor who grew up in Neb. and is a big Husker fan walks up to me before the game Sat. and the first thing out of his mouth is, “fucking Banker!” He was at the BYU game, LOL. He proceeded to bitch about the D for about five minutes. He told me that he was afraid we would be having these talks often and I agreed that we would. He already has buyers remorse.
Wrong. I don’t like it.
I LOVE IT
I was trying to be Minnesota nice.
I’m not caring about NU fan. Riley and his buds can go to hell for how they shat on their former players.
If we escape this game within 20 and no key players injured, I’ll call it a victory
Do you have a line at -20? I might buy that.
Sorry. Ever since the Federated Slots of the Grand Ronde took my money, I am no longer a betting man
I don’t gamble because it’s a stupid thing to to. But I can take a sure thing here and there.
I look at some of these lines, and I think bookies are fucking stupid.
Then I remember they make money.
ouch… OUCH… for the stupid people… those people who think the house won’t win… this one time.
Why am I even making this comment? I should be winning the lottery or something. WTF man?
How was I Mark Banker again? Fail.
I only gave them 60 dollars or so, but that was enough. I know it’s entertainment and all, but I’m not very entertained by losing money. At least I made up half of that in those free fountain drinks.
Shit. Meant to vote up. I’m with you Scotty. Last time I gambled I lost $20 at a card table and quit. That was almost 15 years ago. I was pissed. I hate giving away money for stupid reasons.
Anyone who needs to gamble… you can give me $20 and just assume you lost it upon receipt. I promise me, scotty and whiskey will spend it wisely.
If it helps, you can pick a number between 1 and 100.
It’s easy to stop when you think about what the money translates to. For me, $60 is a good video game or two. For you, $20 is maybe a few whiskey shots or a case of napkins. I also hated choking on all that cancer fog permeating the casino atmosphere.
I think he’s agreeing with you… as am I.
Gambling is something depressing enough to have a whole novel written about it by Dostoevsky.
And then we just run the numbers… the same numbers the house says makes you a cheat if you run them against the house. That town was built on fraud, and they can’t abide anyone who calls them on it.
But I like the roller-coasters.
How did I get on a rant about gambling? That’s stupid shit for stupid people.
You got on the rant of gambling because you once again forgot that bookies are not football geniuses. They simply have to set a line that pulls equal bets on either side and take the 10% to the bank every single time. If you want to be a degenerate gambler, look into betting on derivatives- better odds/still gambling.
But why?
Why would I do that?
That doesn’t even make sense.
If I wanted to play penny stocks, I should be arrested like most of those fuckers should have done to them. But at least I know when looking at a penny stock (being nice here) that I’m buying or selling greatness. Yes… I know there can never be manipulation of said stock this way or that way… or if that even matters per the valuation of the stock.
There is no substitute for shaking hands.
Your napkin sucks
My napkin looks tasty.
Q: What do they think of their new DC? Has their D regressed since the last guy left for Vandy?
Q: Are you allowed to bring outside food into Stanford Stadium? My service animal, a Shetland Pony,
has severe hay allergies and can only eat malted barley. I presume Big Hay has most of the animal concessions. What are Mr Ed’s options for eating? He cannot go more than 1/2 hour between meals.
Concerned in Corvallis.
What makes this funnier is that miniature horses are acceptable as service animals. I’m not sure their dumps would be miniature.
I don’t follow this. I’m actually afraid to “google” this. Would I end up with Feds breaking down my door if I did that?
Can I get a hug?
BOO!
It would take a fan of a sub-standard, somewhat hockey school to pick on fans who can’t eat the crap the Midwest churns out in vast numbers BECAUSE THEY ARE SO FUCKING SUBSIDIZED IT’S NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!
Anywhoo….
Dontay Bassett’s one-liner visit recap:
“….great I liked the staff and team and stuff….”
There you have it, he’s going to Florida…imho
It was probably a given. I like Kone that much more. I would love Bassett as a compliment. But it’s hard to justify two 4s when we already have 4/5s who will compliment Kone so well. We need another facilitator and probably a SF with length… and Jaquori would be nice.
Oh… and as dead as the position has been in the NBA… a true 5 would be good too.
If we get Fraser, Jaquori and Kone… this is a home run for us with many pleasant full crowds at Gill. A 3 and a 5 would make that potential class simply awesome.
They’re coming. They’re coming. You know they’re coming.
No word from Fraser yet
DAMMIT!!!! Make him respond right now!!!!
And other convincing words that make a teen listen to an old person with some wisdom.
Come to Corvallis son. You will be both a hero and a person. I promise.
Q. Has Stanford faced more 3 or 4 man D lines; any significant difference (so far) in the results vs the two? How are they likely to respond if the Beavs switch up their front from 3 to 4 and back again?
BTW, some good quotes from Sitake which echo Andersen and go further in discussing the D, and no excuses for taking over on D deep in a hole:
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2015/09/oregon_state_beavers_practice_54.html
It’s as if our DC sees what we see and comment on.
What the hell is going on out there?
One thing for sure, he doesn’t make excuses and his decisions back up his words re: playing the guys who are best prepared mentally and physically, and letting the rest sit. Guess that’s two things.
Heh heh… Counting 404 is an upper level course.
You’re correct. Actions speak louder than words. I still haven’t watched te game a second time. But the D changed appreciably after that first drive. And there was something funky with the D line on that first drive. And it all changed quickly after that.
And then he responds to the obvious about the quick change on turnovers?
I like this Sitake guy.
I tried looking up Counting 404 on the OSU website, but 404 was Not Found
Made me laugh
you win this time dammit
Would this fall under Riley blaming players?
On the first play of overtime, Riley said that Tommy Armstrong didn’t make it through all his progressions on the play. The play is designed to make the linebacker choose to take the tight end or the running back on the back side of the play. “The back could have run for 15 yards,” Riley said. “Maybe he got flushed and then rolled away from the play.”
Riley said he is pleased with Armstrong’s progression. He said he noticed six drops in the game from Nebraska’s pass catchers.
?
Sure implies it, right? Typical Riley.
The head coach was asked if he has intervened on any play calls this year, “Only the good ones you’ve seen,” he quipped.
Everything is a big joke to Riley. Wait until those fans realize the joke is on them.
Ooooh! Only the good ones…. typical.
If he didn’t own it, then it’s him blaming his players for something he asked them to do. It’s as simple as that. It’s the same shit we saw and heard for years here. I will never forget Banker saying he thought he just asked his D to do too much after a loss to Sacramento State. Let that sink in. Sacramento State. Too much.
Players? Meet the front of the bus. Your host for this event will be rich mother-fucking idiots who have not faced real criticism for years on end.
Has Riley ever faced a voracious, critical media? Canada, Corvallis, San Diego…about as soft as it gets, media wise.
That’s probably why he looks like a deer in headlights during these interviews.
Or… the only real criticism has come from what you think is some cutesy blog that is just a joy to read because it can’t be real.
I have nothing against NU or their fans. What Riley and Banker have said (in real words and quotes) makes me hate everything they do. The natural precipitant for this hate is the players at NU. Again, I do not hate those kids. But it’s really hard for me to root for their success given their current coach will just bash them for their own inefficiencies at every turn.
I absolutely despise the fact that Bellotti is the fifth highest paid person in my state’s government. And that’s because of his pension, not his blabber on ESPN or any buy-out. That was scandal in itself. I can only imagine that my tax dollars will go to Riley and Banker for years on end for the same reason.
Lord love a duck.
I bet it’s hard not to blame players. GA has even insinuated it was players fault at time (e.g. when he said Bolden dropped a pass, and nobody felt worse about that than Bolden). But he quickly recovered and said any errors the players make are on him.
The truth is sometimes the errors are on the players (e.g. Bolden). But as a coach, you can’t blame them since you’re ultimately responsible for them. It’s a fine line. As fans we can call out the players. At least I think so. People have gotten on my case for it, but I have no problem saying a player is good or bad.
Also, does Riley ever deflect success onto this players? I notice he quipped that he only called the successful plays. I never paid much attention to whether he gives the players credit for wins or uses them as an opportunity to talk up his staff.
We all know it’s the players. That’s about as DUH! as you can get. But who teaches the players to be here or there?
Jimmies and Joes is about as obscene as you can get. And yes, I’m talking right at you, you fucking ass hole, Mark Banker. If you can’t teach, your players play like you can’t teach.
The NFL drafts your players regardless. They don’t care about you or your failed ideas. They want athletes despite your failed ideas.
Makes me wonder why Remmers is still playing football instead of making sub-standard housing like his father does. Maybe it doesn’t. I’ll have to wonder if I wonder.
Another thing with Andersen, his mantra is “players make plays and players win games”, but doesn’t that also subtlety imply that [when] “players don’t make plays, players lose games”. GA, you sly fox.
Except that every interview, when there’s an issue of coming up short in some facet of the game, he says that the coaches need to step up.
I believe he’s saying ‘coaches put players in a position to win games. If they aren’t in a position to win games, it’s on the coaching staff.’
that’s a negatory…. don’t recall Bikey calling out coaches ever… or never… or even ever.
Maybe you think Nicey Bikey doesn’t shit on his players?
Yay for you… you little neato dealo kind of guy or gal you.
I’m done. someone else needs to take over the Riley faux-troll shit. You all wanted it. It’s coming.
Wait… are you saying GA holds his coaches accountable for each failure?
Is that a bad thing? I’m starting to question the whole “me so bad” line of thought. Maybe life has something more than grunt and a movie?
Yeah… you knew I couldn’t subscribe to that.
… I so want for you to know what “that” is.
I would make so much more sense if that were true.
Alas
I wasn’t talking about Mike.
Actually kinda fits for once.
That’s funny.
You didn’t edit that… I reacted to something I misread.
It was still a good rant. But sorry for that.
THAT is the point. It is subtle. But it is also understood.
Okay?
Anyone have a link to the Riley or Andersen press conference? I only see a 2:34 clip of Andersen on youtube.
Surely the press conference wasn’t that short?
http://www.kezi.com/sports/beavers/Web_Extra_Gary_Andersen_Previews_OSU_vs_Stanford.html
Hey thanks. That site has a lot of nasty tracking on it, though. 21 pieces of adware and Flash cookies, too. I guess I will have to wait for it to appear on youtube.
Found the audio for those who don’t want a million trackers.

Probably a dumb question but that hasn’t stopped me from asking in the past so here goes –
Basketball and Football Recruiting Question: When a kid visits are they just shown the sights or do they have to go through some sort of evaluation process (speed, strength, etc.)?
What are the differences between an official visit and an unofficial visit? I realize on an official visit the school foots the bill for travel, food, etc. and it might depend on how bad they want a particular kid but it seems like I might learn something if I ask.
TIA
There’s no evaluation done, in fact it’s forbidden. See the sights, meet the coaching staff, talk with your position coach and coordinator, hang out with your host, watch the game, eat some food, see more sights, check out the academic side, hit a party, etc.
Official and unofficial visits, the routine was basically the same.
the routine was basically the same.
Were you a player or host?
What the hell is that?
I thought I was some obscure moron.
Yay you?
Turns out I am some obscure moron.
Yay me.
OT (sorry), given OSU’s poor marketing, what do you guys think of this:

Questions for Tree:
What are expectations for the program under Shaw? Does anyone REALLY care down there? … No, I mean really really. For real.
OT: Does anybody have a use for a 10 ton Hydraulic Log Splitter?
I have a brand new Central Machinery one.
I might. Although 10 ton seems kind of small
nevermind. that’s a manual jobber
Yup its manual.
heh heh
that deserves an extra heh heh
it’s annoying that you can’t watch an NFL game without the announcers talking about fantasy football. This is a somewhat new (~4 years) development, and very annoying and unprofessional. Highlights America’s obsession with gambling. We can’t just watch a game; we have to have some vicarious involvement, something on the line, etc. Sad
Golly, I agree! Fans should enjoy the purity of the game without all these fantasy gizmos and tweeters. I imagine there’s nothing like relaxing on a Saturday, chewing some Doublemint, and watching my players’ behinds get kicked by unranked teams. Our games are on network tv, which is still free, so it’s a neat deal
Whatever, Scotty, you gambling addict.
We are pretty much based in Pismo Beach. Drove down there in the afternoon stopped in Solvang on the way. He played until about 9:45 so were back to the hotel by 11:30. JB
Spoilsport :( Don’t make me whip out the proxies and spammy addresses!
buying
Colin Cowherd states that Fox SPorts owns 10% share in Draft Kings. So get used to it.
Who does what now?
agreed
made me stop watching for three years
made me stp playing FF for the same time
football is actually a very boring sport if not for FF
Make it all about really really stupid people gambling on fucking stupid bets.
Should I not say those words?
I absolutely despise gambling on football
the spread is disgusting
go fuck the spread
Damn right, fuck the spread!
Wait, we’re talking about gambling? *derpface*
umm… yeah?
I don’t hear the announcers because it was clear about 20 years ago that the announcers were full of shit, unemployed jocks.
Therefore, I turned the noise off and have since played music.
Well… that was my neat story for the day.
Damn!
I sound like a fogey.
That decision was made years ago, but I now sound like a fogey.
Oh well.
According to Shurod Thompson, Jordan Parker isnt looking at the pac12. But it sounds pretty encouraging with Thompson and OSU being a good match. Would be a huge addition to the 2016 class
Well that would suggest JP is looking at Oklahoma, where they both visit in October. Do they still want to play together??
I thought Thompson took OU out of his top list and wasn’t visiting them? Not sure if he changed his mind on them again but that was the story a month or so ago.
Positions?
Thompson is DB… I know that. Parker? DB also?
Need a stud DB. Need a wardaddy. Bring them in GA!
Sounds like Parker isnt interested. Wallace hasn’t commented since his visit, but he did retweet a couple tweets about his OSU comic tonight. I’d take Wallace over Parker any day
Wait… is Parker out?
We didn’t want him anyway.
Heh heh… I always wanted to act like a Duck.
He didn’t want to do the work necessary to be a Duck. He wasn’t really a piece we wanted. We couldn’t pay his handler enough to keep him here. We didn’t know about the rape until after we set the set the post-season rosters, and then we couldn’t change them in that three-week span… but not because of bonuses and the school getting a payout for the tourney.
No… not because of that.
Wow…. that took a life of its own. I guess truth bleeds.

Sorry…supposed to be Knopfler’s “Local Hero”….encore from last night. New Iphone learning curve is driving me crazy. JB
Wild theme?
Love that riff.
Great movie.
I wouldnt expect NU fans and alums etc to put up with Riley as we saw him for very long. They EXPECT winning, and will have small patience for what they have already seen. If he wants any time at NU he better jog it up a notch or two. That said, I dont think he will. He has cruised to very good money, and will see it thru and retire on that good ol buy, good guy rep and take his shit eating grin to the bank, thank you very much!
You cover about everything without being acerbic due to the fucker not being loyal for the second time.
Good for you. That’s a neat deal.
Stanford questions:
1. Will Hogan start?
2. Will we play the team that played NW or USC?
3. Who is the fattest guy on the team? What does he bench?
4. If David Shaw was a fast food chain, which would he be?
5. Describe the play of the Stanford defense so far
6. What style of offense is David Shaw trying to run?
7. Are Stanford fans bitter watching Harbaugh coach Michigan?
8. How is Stanford doing in recruiting?
9. Who is the fastest guy on the team?
10. What is the one matchup Stanford must win to get the W?
11. Tell us about the quarterbacks behind Hogan?
12. Who can’t the Cardinal afford to lose?
13. Do Stanford fans know who Gary Andersen is?
14. What were your thoughts about Mike Riley?
15. Who wins? Score prediction?
Sly… in a neato deal kind of way.
1. Has Hogan ever started?
2. No… but let’s keep the we to we
3. Paul Lucas. Dude has an awesome name. In fact, he has two names. Can you guess what they are? Oh… he can sit on the bench.
4. Hopefully ban mi. I want some ban mi.
5. In terms of football or in terms of fucking destroying the economy? Because you fucks are just stupid con men who have really fucking destroyed this world. And if you want links I can provide links to how you fucking idiots have destroyed this world. But at least you have a very low acceptance rate and a pretty campus. Yay!
6. One that scores points?
7. You can stop after the fourth word. And… yes.
8. Who cares?
9. See #3.
10. O-line
11. There aren’t any QBs behind Hogan. There will be a TB and occasionally a two back formation. But a QB? You silly.
12. HUH? Read that one for yourself.
13. Well… maybe. Am I a mind-reader?
14. Ahhhhh… What’s with the “were” crap? Riley and Banker have shat all over their former players just to pump up their current players. Take from that what you will.
15. Ouch… 27-13 either way.
Normally I don’t care about downvotes because they are stupid useless and cowardly… and stupid and useless. But I gotta say… if you got better you can pipe up. There is a keyboard in front of you. If you’re a kid, I’ll not be nice. If you’re a Jesus freak, I don’t care unless you spew that garbage at me (to be fair… that garbage is spewed at me in heaves on other sites, and I can carry the fight over here without thought… or with thought but without a break).
Maybe that shouldn’t have been parenthetical?
Are these words as droopy as they look?

Hogan’s status in doubt for Friday, or just gamesmanship.
@StanfordFball QB Hogan has sprained ankle; status for Oregon State game in doubt http://t.co/e7zbPhg38B via @SFGate
He was actually hurt against SCum. And it wasn’t because Max Tuerk played on D and was the cheap shot artist he is. He got rolled up on a tackle. It looked like it hurt. I’m surprised the joints on his leg don’t resemble grapefruit. Maybe they do.
Don’t care. Their RB and O-line are who we need to beat. Hogan can schmoke my hogan for all I care.
Seen it four times now.
Gotta love Rex Ryan taking it personally. He will get there with New York’s only team.
Meanwhile, one of Pennsylvania’s (blah, blah blah) teams ain’t playing big boy football and is paying the price.
Who fucking figured that would happen?
Fyi, Marquell Fraser arrives Friday. His visit wasn’t last weekend. This is good because he’ll be there with Kone and Kone has said he wants to help recruit guys to our team
Further confirms that Nemec and Machado both took the list of visitors I put together last week and didn’t bother confirming anything themselves.
Thought so.Saw nothing on Fraser over the weekend.
Thinking he comes in on Thursday, not Friday.
You’re right. He said he comes in Thursday
That kid would be a big time steal.
He looks the part of a leader. He plays the part of a leader. His efficiency numbers are bonkers.
How is he not talking to Cal and K every other night? What am I missing on this kid? Is he Prop 48 material? That seems unlikely given Canada far outshines us in education… because those who got one got their “I got mine” attitude with their diplomas.
steady… don’t rant against the obvious….
Now that it is past time for submitting questions, here is a piece on MR and penalties, more like this is on the horizon. TPB!!
http://www.ketv.com/sports/huskers-extended-coverage/red-review-putting-nebraskas-penalty-situation-in-context/35380398
hey we tried to tell em. All we got was, butthurt, sour grapes, jealousy. Now the excuse is no depth or trying to install a different system with Pelini’s players. I gotta ask, did Pelini run some type of a spread offense? Because if he didn’t, they have no fucking excuse. I understand GA is trying to install a spread offense with players recruited for a pro style offense. Which can be equally just as difficult. The problem OSU has is trying to flush the Riley out of the players. Softness, lack of discipline, just happy to be here and compete attitude,
That question is probably best answered by our resident B1G man, Beavergopher. Well, what kind of offense did Pelini run at Nebby???
oh wait a minute, they already have a built in excuse. Riley’s complex playbook. Forgot about that. Sorry, my bad
Nobody expected the Riley Playbook!
I haven’t said a word on any of their sites, and I’ve been correct at every turn. If they want me to talk about their new coach and his tendencies, I submit a whole blog full of comments spanning six years. If you need to go back, there’s also this:
https://angrybeavers.wordpress.com/
This is not a joke… whatever Husker fan calls himself or herself. You bought our pain. Neither of us will fully realize it because you won’t put up with it for more than two years. And we are apparently careful for that which we asked… as we have been told for years on end… forever and ever… amen.
So maybe it is a joke. Maybe it’s a race to stupidity that can be led by our rivals. Maybe it’s not about sports at all.
Nahhhhh! That’s silly talk. Never mind.
cool story Jack. I see your multiple personalities are showing up and you continually replying to your own posts again. Get back on the meds!
Ambien is a scary drug (ask Urban Meyer).
They ran a spread offense. Tim Beck was the OC. Urban Meyer hired him at tOSU after his OC took the Houston job. He became a piñata for the Husker fans the last couple years, but Meyer has a good eye for coaching talent so that hire raised some eyebrows in Lincoln. The rumor became that Pelini put some handcuffs on him as far as play calling goes.
Thanks for posting, great stuff, but did any of the Oregon papers ever do this kind of analysis in all of the years Ranker was here? To difficult for Schnell to do an in depth story on penalties per game and the coaching staffs inability to correct? Oh wait, I think she ate her research intern.
OT:
Check out this asshole:
http://ringoffireradio.com/2015/09/pharmaceutical-ceo-says-he-is-glad-he-raised-price-on-13-aids-medicine-to-750-will-do-it-again/
saw that earlier. My only thought was I hope that someone near and dear to that asshole gets the aids or some other type of debilitation disease and can’t afford the meds. What a fucking prick. This person is all that is wrong with society anymore
Somebody dying from aids needs to beat him to death with a pipe wrench. Set a precedent, give other greedy fucks like him something to think about.
I’ll give an amen to that!
Kevin Hogan’s status uncertain for Friday night’s game. He will not practice this week and will test his ankle on Thursday. Beavs -17? I’d bet the farm on OSU. They may not win, but they would certainly cover. The other two Stanford QB’s have each thrown one pass in their collegiate careers.
Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan suffered a “significant” ankle sprain in Saturday’s 41-31 win over USC and is in jeopardy of missing the Cardinal’s game at Oregon State on Friday, coach David Shaw said Monday.
With Hogan’s status in doubt, redshirt sophomore Ryan Burns and redshirt freshman Keller Chryst will share reps throughout the week, and “some combination” of the two would play if needed, Shaw said. He would not provide any specifics in regards to how the reps would be split up and said he’s willing to wait until game time before deciding on a starter.
Hogan will not practice Tuesday or Wednesday, and Shaw said the plan is for him to test the ankle Thursday.
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/13714642/quarterback-kevin-hogan-stanford-cardinal-doubt-oregon-state-game-ankle-sprain
Does it really matter? They are going to hand off the ball and beat us into submission.
I’ll take that bet
You think we are going to win?
He thinks we will cover the spread.
I would certainly expect the beavs to cover a 17 point spread at home whether it’s a gimpy Hogan or a backup that has never started a game. Maybe even be in position to win. I expect a low scoring, physical game. The beavs aren’t traveling across three time zones to play this one and it is not an early start
That’s your B1G transitive mind at work. If in fact the Cardinal (as in the color) becomes one dimensional, our D will be able to stop them from marching up the field, Provided that our offense is able to produce more than 3&outs and fumbles.
I think having a gimpy Hogan might lessen the ability to scramble and keeping him in pocket might be easier, and thus easier to blitz. We don’t seem to have the same luck with new QB’s, but then again they might not be as accurate.
I was surprised Hogan played that well against SC. He has one of the strangest throwing motions I’ve ever seen.
OT: One of the things I like about this blog is that on almost 200 comments, there is only one instance of “ell-oh-ell”.
What the ell is “ell-oh-ell”?
lulz
LOL?
That’s probably it. Thanks. Now it’s in the thread twice. :-)
Sure glad I don’t have a problem with asking dumb questions.
No dumb questions, just dumb people
:-) Good one.

Re Andersen’s comment which was something to the effect that there were some players that the coaches put into the San Jose State game who it turned out were not ready for that level of football and once the coaches realized that they took them out.
Any guesses who it was he was referring to? Was Aydon one of them?
I don’t know for sure, but I think it might have been some on the LB corp. Bright would come to mind as to somebody who I think was subbed out.
Aydon did not participate.
I’m guessing that Andersen is framing this Friday night’s game against Stanford as an opportunity for redemption, to erase the memory of the second half at Michigan, and show that the Beavs are ready to hold their own against a physical football team.
It seems likely that Stanford is going to try to replicate what Michigan did in the second half, and simply steamroll the Beavs with the power running game. This is usually Stanford’s preferred game plan, but probably more so this Friday, given the injury to Kevin Hogan (who won’t be 100%, if he plays at all). Stanford’s backup QBs are inexperienced, and the short week further limits Stanford’s opportunity to prep for OSU. So Shaw (who is naturally conservative) will likely try to keep it simple, and just run the ball down OSU’s throat to the extent he can.
I suspect that won’t work for Stanford as well as it worked for Michigan. The Beavs learned a lot against Michigan (and against San Jose State), and they will be better prepared for the kind of power run game that Stanford will deploy. The home crowd will help motivate the OSU defense to stand toe-to-toe with Stanford in the trenches. Sitake has done well against Stanford in the past, and he’ll be ready this week with effective schemes and appropriate personnel (and with blitzes and shifts and packages that are likely to confuse Stanford’s inexperienced QBs). If OSU can stifle the Stanford power running game, and if Hogan can’t play (or can’t play effectively) due to injury, I think Stanford will have trouble moving the ball (as Stanford did, for different reasons, against Northwestern).
The Beavers are likely to be the more motivated team this Friday night. It’s a national TV game (Fox Sports 1), which is still a big deal for many of the young Beaver players (unlike the experienced players at Stanford, who have played on national TV a lot). For the Beavers, it’s a chance to prove themselves, at home as well as on national TV, against a ranked team, and make a statement. For Stanford, it’s an away game on short rest following an important and emotional win at USC. Stanford is heavily favored on Friday, and it would be natural for Stanford to suffer a letdown against OSU. The Beavers, in contrast, have lots of reasons to be “up”.
If the Beavers take care of the ball, I suspect the Beavs have a good shot this Friday night. Go Beavs!
I was enjoying reading your comments until you mentioned that the Beavs would be playing before a national TV audience. At that point I felt a dark cloud come over me which seemed to weigh me down.
A National TV audience……… ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Go Beavs.
I though I had read Michigan set an NCAA record for number of power run plays run in a single game against OSU a couple weeks back (Maybe that was just a writer trying to be funny? Not sure if they even keep such a stat)
I would expect more of the same from Stanford. I’m thinking back to the last time they beat Oregon, and they just line up and rammed it down their throat the entire game. I don’t know why they would go away from that vs OSU, after watching Michigan’s success with it. Our D-line has already been thinned a little by injury, but hopefully Grimble is feeling close to 100% again.
I suspect our offense will have similar difficulties moving the ball as we did vs Michigan as well. Stanford is bigger and faster on D. I’m not optimistic about this weekend’s game, even with Hogan gimping around or a backup taking his place.
Was Grimble’s injury something recent or an aggravation of the USC cheap shot? Banker did call out Sarkasian on that after the game, but I don’t recall if he addressed it during the game. How would a coach do that, by the way?
Aggrevation I heard, sounds like they are trying to manage it
OT: He is as good as we thought.

That is like Viagra for OS Beav.
that looks horrible, is that a flannel shirt wrapped around the post?
It looks like Payne Stewart’s pants.
Aye, if it’s not Scottish, it’s CRAP!
If it’s Haggis, it’s both.
What does cool “tartans” look like? haha

Haha, nice D&D reference.

We may use our orange helmets this Friday!
Saw this picture floating around the interwebz:
http://imgur.com/DiFnmcL
Orange “lids,” black shirts, orange pants is my guess. Or, same w/white pants.
Are fans “encouraged” to wear orange?
Fugly uni’s.
True, but they paid for them…new combos seem to be in, so I’m guessing…
I like the orange lids, not sure that imgur pic with the squirrel though is legit and certainly not an improvement.
We’re just trolling Nike now.
Why not?
Gina posted orange helmet today as well.
https://twitter.com/ginamizell
JoeBeav particularly painful today but it is apparent the players are aware of being one of few (only?) TV games Friday. Good? Bad?…….it is what it is.
Good thing.
Can’t wait for those new tartan unis and hardhat helmets.
I like it. Best to have the logo on all helmets for brand recognition. Like any NFL team besides lowly Cleveland you stick your logo on the helmet. It is what you want and expect for cheering your team on at home or watching on TV. If we did that then the other helmets can also make studio appearances besides just the white as even the Pac-12 offices don’t think a blank black helmet tells casual fans it is for the Oregon State Beavers.
San Jose State was 1-13 on 3rd downs, Weber was 0-13, plus Michigan. Anyone know our national ranking on 3rd down at this juncture?
Second nationally.
http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/701
7/39 third down conversions is pretty damn impressive for the D. I would imaging most of those came in the 2nd half against Mich
Thanks for the link.
Early in the year, small sample size and hard to tell from the quality of opponents but I like the D.
OSU
#17 in passing yards allowed
#40 in rushing yards allowed
Who was complaining that Sitake was a waste of money? As of today I would say he’s a bargain compared to what our pal Banks makes.
Interesting factoid:
Penalties
OSU is tied at #66 with a total of 19
Any guesses about Nebraska? # 126 (out of 127 schools listed) with 31 penalties against. Because it’s all about the accountability
Once they find their identity it won’t matter.
they already have
Someone call LifeLock, they stole our identity! No wait, they can have it. I like this new one.
We’re not #122! We’re not #122! We’re not #122!
Again.
So Stanford ranks #33, #34, and #50 in Total Defense, Scoring Defense, and Rush Defense. Good but not great. I see they gave up some yards and points to USC, but have heard via radio that they shut them down in the 4th.
How good is Stanford’s D and can we move the ball on them?
Thanks Dubious, very interesting. #1 nationally was Northwestern which Stanford lost to. #2 was us. #14 is Michigan, which killed us because of our offensive 3 & outs. Stanford comes in at #97 at stopping third down. If Stanford can’t get our offense off the field quickly, then we start looking much stronger.
Beat writer Moran just tweeted this.
https://twitter.com/DannyJMoran/status/646438854459658240
Oregon State lists players out Friday: RB Chris Brown, DL Jalen Grimble, LB David Henry, DL Ali’i Robins and OL Will Hopkins.
So either things changed in the last 2 days with Grimble, or this report isn’t accurate. Has Will Hopkins ever played a down?
I heard K Vakamelailo was in a boot earlier in the week. Is he good to go now????
Both him and Smith are “questionable”
Gina’s tweet has more info
https://twitter.com/ginamizell/status/646438726722162689
If Vakameilalo and Ali’i Robins are out, I guess Noke is the third string nose tackle? Is Noke only semi-healthy? Who’s after Noke?
Elu Aydon burn redshirt?
I think I’m next on the depth chart after Noke, but at 180lbs, not sure how effective I’ll be
Use your quickness…such as it might be..
I’m a slow 255 lb guy
Sumner Houston? drink your protein shakes this week
265 here, but I’m out of college eligibility :-(
Currently 200, was 240 in May, was 185 in July. So I could adjust as needed. Only I’m out of eligibility too :(.
But at least we can be undrafted NFL free agents this season.
I think I’ve seen him on special teams – once or twice.Another big guy who has foot problems but I don’t know the nature of this injury.
Hopkins, that is.
What happened to Brown? Do we see more Sands of Haskins?
You guys think Utah beats the quacks?
I think there’s a pretty good chance. As long as they have a qb.
Not likely. If the game wasn’t in Eugene I think they might.
Connor’s replacement up with a piece on the D-line, his best work yet. Makes me even more interested in the Stanford Blogger’s response to questions about the front seven this week.
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2015/09/oregon_state_beavers_remain_un.html#incart_river
I thought the detail in the write-up was terrific. Now I know why I was having so much trouble following the game. The players weren’t doing the same thing over and over and over and . . . You can adjust during the game? Who knew?
Will we finally see the tight ends .. Nall and Lucas mixed in to the offense now that Pac 12 play is here?? Biggest thing I’m hoping to see
I’m not so sure about the tight ends getting the ball. I would like to see them, but sounds like they made adjustments to involve more tight end blocking for protection. I do hope to see new use of these talented players though. Need to find ways to use talent on hand.
Togiai was missed on the TE release into the seam. SC drilled it when he should have put some air under it. It was a catchable ball for someone like Tony Gonzales in his prime.
Then he did hit Togiai again on a pretty out route.
Clute has been doing most of the brute work, and he’s doing it well.

Updated Power Ratings sheet: scroll all the way to the right to see point predictions: W4 column has this week’s games.
EDITOR’S NOTE:
And yes, before you ask I am fully aware that Georgia Tech is ahead of Notre Dame and USC is ahead of Stanford despite losing to them. The ratings are asked to measure the strength of each team, their performance vs their schedule and who would be favored on a neutral field in the current system.
I’m unclear as to exactly why Georgia Tech didn’t drop, but I’m not akin to changing the formula based on who-beat-who. My hypothesis is the formula is looking at the entire season and not just what transpired the previous weekend. Of course, none of the other teams really put up a good showing around them either. But of course, we do only have three weeks of data to go on as well. If nothing else, it stirs up a good discussion while we wait for the weekend.
“Only three weeks of data”. After this week, the games played will start to become connected enough to start to use some actual logic. Almost there.
Notice how Louisville at 0-3, is 33 spots ahead of the Beavs. At some point results have got to matter right?
No. You are terrible.
As is your D.
Get that NATTY son!
terrible beer
Still butthurt over the sparty game huh?
I would point out that Louisville’s schedule to this point is light years ahead of Oregon State’s. Weber State/Michigan/San Jose State vs Auburn/Houston/Clemson. Not even a contest.
It’s not a good conversation. It’s just wrong. Notre Dame destroyed GaTech and has a tougher schedule thus far. If you note discrepancies that egregious, you have to change your algorithm to make it work. That’s what trial and error are all about.
I would suggest removing any and all subjective values. But that’s me.
I was trying to nicely point out the lack of logic. But yes, just wrong.
This happens frequently during the first month of the season. The computer actually expected Notre Dame to beat Georgia Tech, based on the home field. I do not need to change this algorithm, as it’s been over 85 percent accurate for ten years. What the computer is saying is based on performance of each team at this point in time, is that Georgia Tech would beat Notre Dame more times than Notre Dame would beat Georgia Tech on a neutral field. It isn’t concerned nearly as much with results as performance. Which is why you’ve seen teams like Oregon, Arkansas and Auburn drop like a rock over the last three weeks. There are no subjective values either. It looks at the number crunch and none of the hype.
I don’t think GaTech beats Notre Dame once on any field this year. Notre Dame matches up perfectly with their strengths and beats then soundly where they’re weak. And they know now that O’Leary will never let up against them, so they should never gift that favor again like they did this last weekend.
And if you’re happy with a 15 point differential, so be it.
Sitting here and it occurred to me that I put O’Leary down when I meant Johnson. I don’t know why I did that.

SCOUTING STANFORD: Stanford bounced back from a season- opening road loss at Northwestern with a 31-7 home win last week over UCF. The Cardinal is guided by ninth-year head coach David Shaw, whose uncle (Nate) was an All-American cornerback and assistant coach at USC. Senior QB Kevin Hogan (37-of-64, 57.8%, 496 yds, 3 TD, 1 int in 2015) starts for his fourth season and ranks among the school’s career leaders in touchdown passes (fourth with 51), total offense (fifth with 7,930) and passing yards (fifth with 7,014). His top targets are sophomore RB Christian McCaffrey (32 tcb, 124 yds, 3.9 avg in 2015, plus 9 rec, 82 yds, 9.1 avg, 1 TD and 5 KOR, 107 yds, 21.4 avg and 3 PR, 24 yds, 8.0 avg), the team leader in rushing, receiving, punt returns and kick returns (he is 13th nationally in all-purpose running at 168.5, first in the Pac-12), as well as senior WR Devon Cajuste (6 rec, 63 yds, 10.5 avg in 2015) and junior TE Austin Hooper (6 rec, 56 yds, 9.3 avg in 2015). Senior LB Blake Martinez (22 tac, 1.5 for loss, 1 int, 4 dfl in 2015), senior LB Kevin Anderson (15 tac, 2.5 for loss in 2015) and junior LB Peter Kalambayi (15 tac, 2 for loss, 1 sack, 1 FF in 2015) lead Stanford’s defense, which is 11th nationally in pass efficiency defense (80.0, second in Pac-12), 15th in pass defense (128.0, first in Pac-12) and 18th in both total defense (255.5, first in Pac-12) and scoring defense (11.5, fifth in Pac-12).
6ft11in 189 lb
Not optimal size for a WR.
You Beav fans are so laughable it is hilarious. OSU is a dumpster fire of a football program, and now you have to resort to making comments about a former coach. He already has more big time recruits in 1 year than close to his whole time at OSU. Face it, Corvallis sucks, and he went to a much better situation where football actually means something. I won’t be surprised to see NU good again soon, and it will be a challenge for the Ducks when they head to Lincoln.
The lack of “lol’s” here was mentioned earlier, thanks for providing the opportunity to change that.
Oooooh a new troll : 3 Gotta feed it once I guess.
I could argue with you about Corvallis/OSU/Nebraska, but it’d be a waste of time. Instead I’ll just set you straight on us resorting to making comments about a former coach: We do it for a number of reasons, but it’s not because we “have” to. It’s because said coach is too damn funny and we want to.
Your program is nothing without Chip the Cheater and Uncle Sweatshop. I’ll take our program over your gaudy “college” (lol) program and its arrogant bandwagon fanbase any day.
This is someone who thinks Eugene doesn’t suck, presumably. He’s already a disadvantaged mind. How do you argue with someone who has such a flawed view of reality?
*heh heh… setting myself up?
I mean… if the program is a dumpster fire (it’s not), then who would be directly responsible for that? Might it be the fault of the man who headed it for 12 straight years? We’ve seen a game to game improvement in some of the numbers that were commonly poor indicators of that man’s teams for the better while his new team makes those mistakes in droves. We have injuries and inexperience on the D line, yet we’re still playing players who were recruited for it instead of former walk-on O-linemen and WRs. LB is a different story, but it’s better suited to that change and has been done more smartly than the previous staff would do. And we are seeing the best players on the field instead of rewarding tenure. Who knew that reps beget experience better than years of practice?
And then there’s the fact we have a much better academic situation than can be imagined down here at the sports marketing factory. That alone should embarrass our new friend.
Hey Marcdog! I’ve appreciated your comments and commentary so far, but you better not be bringing all of those olive tools with you!
Duck Douche Nozzel: rule here is if you’re going to troll at least be funny. Otherwise scram nerd
Thanks, but I don’t believe I have that kind of influence. If I did I’d play my pipes and have them follow me over to a tOSU blog (they probably couldn’t tell… they would only see the letters and colors don’t seem to matter much to them). I’m sure they would get better treatment over there.
Nah… they would feel them out and play with them for a while, then they would blow them out of the water in the second half of the conversation.
Yeah, at least nutbutter and Craig R. had a shtick
Way to get that morning self esteem boost out of the way son. Now…. go get dressed put on the Maury show and make it a great day!
Maury still has a show?
Goe is that you? Upset you still haven’t received that sand paper fisting from Helf? Sorry but he’s been a little busy trying to stroke VA back to healthy. Speaking of dumpster fires, ducks defense. That is all
Sorry fellas, I seem to have stepped in something in the yard before I wandered in this morning.
Smells like a few-days-old Geoduck. You do know what a Geoduck looks like, right? If not here is some info and a picture:

are you a greener, Marcodg?
Admittedly, I had to look up “greener” because I had no idea what that meant (as a noun). At 54+ I usually don’t know what you young folk have done to the definition of some words; enough to make me wary of that kind of question. As to your meaning, I have no idea and plead ignorance.
I don’t know what this adjective means when used as a noun either. I’m pretty sure if I googled it I would just see definitions of the adjective.
I’m afraid to google it, I’m afraid being named greener, it may be the UO version of lemon party.
google will only bring up trusted sites. It’s not going to Rickroll you.
I think he’s asking if you went to Evergreen up in Olympia, but I could be wrong
If that’s the case, then no. OSU, Electrical and Computer Engineering, class of ’83.
What? Couldn’t get into the school of University Studies?
Oh… geoducks… I get it. Didn’t Kevin Smith make a funny movie about them in New Zealand?
Love Mussel.
So do I, especially with some butter and just a hint of hot paprika.
Love Muscle?

Ah… now it all comes together. Took me long enough. I was only making fun of our new troller’s nom-de-plume.
OT… this is pretty cool stuff for a school with a service mandate.

The thing I worry about with Stanford isn’t that they’ll plow us. They’ll do that because Michigan showed it can be done with TOP being a factor. USC tried to play uptempo and got plowed in the second half because of this. So I would hope that we take a cue from that and slow it down on O in order to save legs for what we know Stanford will try.
What worries me most is how they find space in the middle of the D. Their RBs and TEs are their strength. To combat that, we’ll need to hurry Hogan (or whoever plays) into making poor decisions. And that means sending extra players from different directions. I don’t expect our D-line to do much more than try to hold their ground. Sending extra people means a LB corps who hasn’t shown much in coverage will be asked to cover greater zones where these RBs and TEs specialize in finding holes. So do we try man and hope extra people means less time for coverage?
We have a positive success rate on 3rd downs, even against Michigan. But that can be exposed if we don’t make it work early on Friday and keep our D off the field in the second half, where Michigan made up ground in that aspect.
Eggers has a new pre Stanford story up. Pretty similar to what others have said already, but says a “source” tells him Hogan likely wont play.
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/274054-149934-kerry-says-beavers-victory-probably-not-in-the-cards
Source is probably correct. And this is a fair assessment. Martinez would have looked better in orange and black. Can you imagine our 3-4 with him and Mageo roaming the middle?
Ahhh… what could have been and will never be.
One thing about Martinez is that he’s not as good as Skov was at containing the edge. But their CBs are good at redirecting WRs back into him. Need to put a dedicated hat on that kid.
Eggers’ source is probably dead on. A lot of books are taking the game off their boards.
good thing I took the 16′ on Sunday night when the line came up originally.
How much you put down?
My site had it off from the jump.. I was hoping to get in at +17.5
The two backup QBs for Stanford are Keller Chryst (RS Fr) and Ryan Burns (RS So). These guys are each 6’5″ pocket passers, with strong arms, little game experience, and limited footspeed (a bit like early Mannion….) If we can get Stanford into third down situations where they need at least four yards to move the chains, expect Sitake to dial-up a bewildering variety of blitzes, stunts, and formations to confuse and pressure these young QBs into incomplete passes, sacks, and turnovers. I think that pressure strategy is likely to be successful against these young, relatively immobile QBs, especially in a hostile Reser stadium on national TV. If the Beavers can grab a lead and force the young QBs to pass more often while playing from behind, all the better.
Not saying it will be easy, but one can see a credible path to victory here. Go Beavs!
The Beavs defense is young too. But you’d expect 8 in the box on run downs and lots of blitzing on 3rd down.
Chryst is a big kid too so don’t expect him to go down easy. He’s not slow, he just prefers to stand in the pocket. Similar to Luck, can run but chooses not too. Mannion can’t run, wont’ run.
If the Beavs finish +2 in the turnover game, I think they pull out a close win.
I don’t expect Stanford to score more than 24 points without Hogan.
It’s going to matter more what our O-line will be able to do against their front seven. They’re going to try to force everything inside where their strength lies. SC taking the edge at the right times will be key. And bubble screens? We haven’t seen many of those yet this year.
What’s nice is that SC seems to have found the deep seam. That means SU can’t put 8 in the box and count on Baldwin not taking advantage.
And it’s quite obvious that SC is installing large chunks of new concepts from week to week. He’s still struggling with his efficiency. But he looks more and more like a D1 QB every week. I don’t know how that translates to SU and the experience they have on the D side. But the scheme changes from week to week if only because new stuff is added.
It’s good that SC is still showing an upside.
If he could get his completion rate up into the 60’s, no one would be able to stack the box.
Hey ProgressiveBeav, how was the wedding/Italy trip? Looks like you’re back. Congrats btw
Flo is off the market?
I was at a bar last weekend watching the OSU game and some coug fans got bent out of shape that the bar would not put on the coug game. One guy proceeded to talk smack about the beavs. This was, of course histerical coming from a coug which had just lost to Portland St. Since I may encounter these guys again, I have prepared some more stats for them.
OSU has beaten the cougs in 6 of the last 8 meetings. The average margin of victory for the beavs was 30.6 points. 2007 and 2008 were particulary one sided meetings with scores of 52-17 and 66-13, respectively.
Dear coug fans, KISS MY ASS!!!
The Coug fan should be happy it wasn’t on. Even if they have the lead at halftime, they start to get depressed and start talking about how they’ll blow it.
Haha.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=coug+it
I disagree, I’m often in strange corners of the world and rarely get denied at least a distant corner tv so long as the bar carries the proper channel. I would more blame the coug for couging it on his advanced planning. Call the bar ahead of time and confirm they will have your game.
*hysterical* dang it
Also, since 2007 the cougs have averaged 3.25 win per year. Incredible!
OT… Horowitz on hoops.
Oh Gary… *1990

Saw a tweet about the student section being already filled and that no students will be turned away because they will provide overflow for anyone wanting to attend. Anyone else see this or know about it?
I’m guessing valley view is overflow.
I thought they continued around the endzones, but I could be mistaken. I heard they’re close to breaking the student ticket record (8,800ish)
Wow. But I guess since there are more students since the new side opened up and the same number of student tickets, that would happen.
Hopefully they do give more to the students. They are much louder than regular fans.
I believe the associate athletic director stated they will continue to give out student tickets until there is no more demand. They will not turn any students away.
If you look at the Beavs ticket site they show the south end zone as student seating as well as the east sideline.
I believe all this info is to mean that those seats are filled already. There were probably a couple students turned away when they were booked, and the AD realized that a Friday night game will leave certain sections open… and that the team plays football for the enjoyment of the students anyway.
What do you think about switching the team player sidelines? Put the opponents in the sun for day games, and right next to the students and the loud crowd when the opposing team has the ball. Put
The Beavs offense would be next to the septuagenarians when the OSU D is on the field so the offense can easily communicate for the next series.
Putting opposing teams in the shade and right below the fans that won’t even stand up doesn’t seem particularly daunting.
PHIL STEELE REPORT:
OVERVIEW:
This series has been all Stanford of late, as they’ve won 5 in a row. The Cardinal
enter off a highly emotional road win after pulling off the upset over USC last week.
Unfortunately for them however, is st’g QB Hogan injured his ankle. While he was
able to play through the injury LW, his status for this gm is up in the air. Oregon St
had just 138 ttl yds two wks ago against Michigan and Stanford has a similar type of
defense that will likely give the Beavers problems. HC Shaw no doubt will use a
similar type of game plan as his mentor Harbaugh used. The schedule edge does
favor Oregon St as they are off a home gm vs SJSt and have a bye on deck while
this is Stanford’s 2nd straight road game and they return home to face a tough
Arizona team next week. My computer is calling for the Cardinal to win by 19, but
I’ll go just a tad lower and call for them to win by 17.

Coaching: Stanford +2? Bullshit, it’s David Shaw not Jim Harbaugh
More importantly, it’s NOT Riley, Banker, Langsdorf, and Read….
New coaching staff implementing new systems with new players and no experience vs a coaching staff that has regularly competed for the Pac-12 Title. The coaching ratings value a lot on experience, tenure, and time system is in place as well as success on the field. It’s not just rating Andersen but the entire staff comparison, and right now, the track records speak for themselves. There simply is not enough data on this staff yet.
Sure there is. You’re saying above that there’s not enough info regarding their being together and leading this team. That’s different than having information on them.
You could argue that both coaches have coached the same amount of games at Reser, and that woul dmake this value completely subjective as well.
I’m telling you what I assume are the data points he is using. Pretty much you have a Stanford coaching staff and a head coach who’s been in place for about half a decade and won its fair share of championships in this league vs a new staff that’s coached three games together. It honestly will not surprise me if there’s never a coaching edge for Oregon State this year, as the staff was rated #12 out of #12 in the magazine going into the season. Game reps matter not just for players, but coaches as well. It’s not uncommon to see this sort of rating when there is a coaching change for the first year.
*perceived coaching edge
Your assumptions are likely his assumptions. But they’re still assumptions. If you go back to his past assumptions, I’m guessing Riley was in the positive for many of his analyses as well. We could probably go back to each of those and find those assumptions were incorrect in about 60-70% of those games. That pattern did not change his assumptions that Riley was a positive. So I’m buying your take.
Myles jack out for season….knee. Ucla just got easier.
That is a shame. He is a great player.
Sucks
Oh Damn. I like watching that kid play. Hope it’s repairable.
My UCLA friends down here are literally depressed.
Anyone got a link for the drive?
“”Oregon State is my top school right now,” he said. “They are number one right now.” ”
For some reason I get a bit uneasy when a kid phrases “right now” like he did.
Sounds like he’s waiting for the offer he really wants, eh?
I would rather be ahead now then behind. So we still have some work to do with him, that is what in-home visits with the parents will be for.
the very last scene in “The Drive” in the locker room after the Michigan loss was revealing; Andersen telling the guys that because of immaturity some guys won’t be playing next week. let’s see, that was GRimble and Smith, right?
Just watched it and was going to comment but you’re way ahead of me. All I can say is I for one am damn glad we finally have a football coach that won’t put up with shit. I don’t care if he tells the media the player is sick instead of suspended. If they are keeping that shit in house, fine with me.
“grow up, buy in or please go away.”–GA
Found myself nodding in appreciation. THIS is what accountability is all about.
That’s what I was thinking when he was saying that. Caleb Smith for sure… I like that GA doesn’t tolerate that stuff. #gobeavs
bot sure about Grimble because I don’t think he’s going to play this weekend either. Smith I would agree
Yeah, Grimble is on the list of players who will not play vs Stanford. As for Smith, Gina reports,
I lean toward believing that Smith is being disciplined and that Grimble is truly not physically ready to play. But, that may be wishful thinking on my part.
Haven’t seen The Drive yet, but this quote from Sitake after last weeks game is the kind of thing most here have wanted,
Ugh. All orange Friday night:
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2015/09/oregon_state_beavers_to_wear_a.html#incart_river
Play better than you’ll look Beavs!
It looks good in person. Not on tv though
Looks less worse in person. They look like orange crayolas.
A bit off topic, but at Reser Stadium today, Gary Andersen came out and talked to the freshmen and encouraged them to appreciate their college days. Good job by him.
Then, they made all the freshmen go through the various football cheers. Interesting part is, it seems like they’ve made some changes to the cheers from last year.
I note that the ESPN bowl game gurus are projecting Nebraska for the Quick Lane bowl in Detroit. Now that’s a return to glory!
Sounds more like a night watching a PBA event.
Quick lane to unemployment…Riley first in line with a pack of Big Red in his hand, Banker next doing his hand jive: “Sir, could you please stop dancing. Sir!” Cav cursing and making Riley wince….
Sorry if a repost. Stanford may be without their best defensive player on Friday

Stanford 45 – Beavs – 14. Tough sledding for the Beavs and their apparent new savior this year.
Who gave you permission to stop sucking my dick? Get back to work!
Multi-tasking?
Or are you thinking he’s an average Duck and has to mouth the words as he types.
Utah 42- Big Sister 27
They’re younger… so little sister. And only sister because they’re our sister school. We would be big sister.
Jack, we’ve been through this, it’s a response to “little brother”……..
Responding to stupid doesn’t make the conversation intelligent. Only correcting stupid does that.
Who cares if it’s “intelligent”? I just like getting those little bitches panties twisted up. Fucking loser Go Fucks, seems like she’s on her period.
Watched The Drive. See that scene with the Utah coaches in that room talking about low offensive production? We might have the youngest players in the Pac, but I bet they have the oldest coaching staff! Maybe I can find action on Utah -14 years. With Erickson in their lineup it’s a slam dunk.
(jk Scotty isn’t a gambling man, remember)
Oregon leads 62–46–10 Enough said on the Little Sister Big Brother Argument. Scoreboard.
Isn’t it amazing what about a billion dollars will buy.
What argument? Nikegon is our younger sister school. The sky is blue because of refraction. Water is wet. Mountains are taller than hills.
What argument?
You mad bro?
