Hoops Discussion

315

It’s a slow day so far, so how about a hoops discussion since we’re one week away from the season beginning (exhibition game).

Twitter blew up last night with Thompson’s 28 point performance.

Here‘s an entire recap.

Apparently I missed that Tres Tinkle is out of the boot and fully healed, but he dropped 15 points last night.

The big picture last night was that the young guys performed as advertised.

AnĀ  interesting debate today would be the starting lineup and depth. I’m thinking Payton, Duvivier, Thompson, Tinkle, Eubanks. Beavs will have to go small since all their bigs are hurt. That would put Bruce, Walker, and Olaf as backups until they get full strength. Once at full strength, the depth is pretty good (Reid is nice off the bench). I haven’t seen Rankocevic mentioned at all. Is he on the team? They could use him. It will be interesting to see if Noah continues with football, etc, as well.

Discuss.

  1. Another lineup could be:
Payton, Bruce, Thompson, Tinkle, Eubanks. The more I think about it, this is probably better than starting Duvivier since it puts a true point guard out there. Then Duvivier could sub for Bruce or Payton since he has a mix of those skills. That is actually probably best.

  2. Part of the starting line-up will depend on who’s willing to put out the defensive effort. It’s nice to see guys be able to get the ball in the hoop, though.

  3. Sorta OT: Just saw in the feed that Pivec committed to the Lady Beavs. Second 5 * for Rueck in as many years and he pulled her from WA over a solid UW program and Stanford. Would be a monster class if Ionescu, not holding my breath, comes on board as well. If she doesn’t, I just don’t want to see her got to Hole.

      • Katharine Tudor, a 4* out of CA, same HS as Ali Gibson. From everything I’ve read, she’s one of the best shooters in this class.

Janessa Thropay, a 3/4*, depending upon the site, F. Not as much press about her but ESPN says she boards and can step out and shoot it some. Sounds like a replacement for Devan Hunter.

      • angry, remember the Twins photoshop you did with Tinkle and DeCarolis?
Think you could make one of those with Rueck in place of Bob?

Thinking it would make a good profile pic for the twitter feed as basketball season kicks off

  4. The bigs will have to rotate often until Gomis gets back. I don’t think they’ll be able to play effectively for more than 5-8 min at a time.

Thompson while showing good things in the scrimmage will eventually have to adjust when defenders become physical with him. He’s pretty light. Beav’s were the worst in 3 pt shooting last year. Thompson should improve that greatly.

Payton and Thompson should lead the way on scoring. Essentially replacing Robbins scoring from last year plus a little more.

The keys to this year is maintaining the defensive efforts from last year and improving on rebounding at both ends. Scoring should improve naturally with the freshman.

      • I think Tinkle will take longer to get adjusted. Thompson looks like he’ll be able to step in and significantly contribute.

Mostly I think this because of all the competition that Thompson faced in southern california. Quality of competition day in day out is much better. I’m predicting Tinkle will be good in spurts but Thompson will be more consistent.

This is only for this year.

  5. Football Update:
Via Mizell: Oregon State starting QB Seth Collins did not practice today. Had a “setback” (undisclosed injury) during stretches, Gary Andersen said.

        • Careful, you’re gonna get called out by LK for misogynistic death threats now! Treat sprained vulvas with the seriousness they deserve!

          • Why does a vulva have anything to do with anything unless you’re trying to be misogynistic?

Seriously. What does it even mean except as a slam against women, if it is meant as any kind of slam?

Is the penis not good enough a target?

          • How is it hyper? It’s just a question.

Is being a woman an inferior thing?

That’s what the comment means to me as I read it. If it not intended that way, then I’m just wrong. Then it means that being a woman is a superior thing. Then it means the comment was meant to praise SC, and I just read it wrong.

What does it mean to you, in a non-hyperserious way? What do those words mean as they are written? Do you have a light-hearted answer to those questions?

          • Oh brother. What’s it all mean to me? It means I was making a flippant reference to the earlier comment comparing saying someone’s an asshole to death threats.

As for Dwill’s comment, yes, he’s questioning Collins’ manhood. In a football context, that is generally in insult because we all know players don’t exactly try getting hyped up on estrogen and “feminine” feelings before a game. That does not mean those things do not have their value, but it is not in a football context. A sort of “you throw like a girl” which while isn’t the kind of insult I’d personally lob, isn’t something I’d read terribly into and get worked up over, unlike you. And I’m not a girl, so easy for me to say, I imagine you retorting – but even when similar things are said about demographics I am a member of, I don’t raise a stink either. Because being able to talk shit once in a while is better than all the PC being injected freaking everywhere in society.

I can barely believe I’m wasting my time explaining this to you, because the battle lines were probably drawn before anything was posted given your SJW tendencies. You basically like to perceive slights and injustices so you can use them as ammunition to attack others and bolster your own sense of moral superiority.

See? Now I’m also being too serious about this crap, and you can see how much fun it makes the the thread.

          • It’s not my topic. And I fail to see what PC has to do with it also.

But I see that you do admit it is an insult to women. So that does answer my question, and I did not read it incorrectly.

          • … that is generally in insult…

            I interpret this as:
            that is generally an insult

Did you also intend for those words to mean something other than what they do? Am I also needing this “joke” to be explained to me?

          • Why does everything have to be so PC? I don’t consider myself to be a misogynist in any shape or form – I love and respect women and all of their wonderful parts – but can’t we just laugh at something kinda funny without preaching about this and that? There are limits but I thought angrybeavs was a place we could write some shit without constant reprimands. If we want that go to Blitz.

          • Jack is the only one that gets his tit in a wringer about stupid bullshit around here. I do it on purpose sometimes when I’m bored. Especially when someone is being a pussy or a bitch.

          • Your women are fine when you’re not there… hating them.

Let’s go with this idea that you think blacks talk like morons. How long have you felt that way?

          • Sorry everyone, it’s my fault. I forgot to put a trigger warning before the word “misogynistic” even though I knew it’d set Jack off.

          • Wrong heterocage. I’m talking about the white male oppression of females. And how all white men are rapists, even if the female consents to sex. Which includes marriage. “Heterocage” is a feminist buzz word. A few others include cis-gendered, White Privilege, Hate Speech, Trigger Warning, Rape Culture, Patriarchy and a few others. Basically it’s nonsense…..or more of an excuse why ugly chick’s can’t get laid.

          • Interesting. I’ve never heard the word used in that context. I’ve also never heard of trigger warning. I don’t understand the push back against hate speech or patriarchy. They’re just words that define certain things. Policies that seek to hedge them are a separate issue and should be discussed individually. But there’s nothing nonsensical in two definitions.

Rape culture I understand and disagree as a term. It’s too broad a term. If talking about a lazy or misogynistic law enforcement, administrative or coaching group, just use those words instead. That way you don’t envelop whole swaths of people in some vagary meant to be precise.

I’m not sure why you think white privilege is nonsense. It’s how me and my friends would steal Playboys as kids. The one black kid in our circle would go in the store, and clerks would follow him around, paying us no mind. We had that shit figured out at age 12. Why is it difficult for you?

          • WFO made me spit out my 17th Diet Coke! That was funny Man, or if you’d like I can refer to you as the other gender if you’d prefer. I don’t want to be insensitive,

          • Why is it even PC?

Words have meanings. Do they not? I’m asking a question, and all I’m getting is some bullshit deflection about PC? I really want to know what a vulva has to do with this. Why write something if there is no meaning to it? I don’t see any humor in it, because it makes zero sense to me. You could put the word “tree” in there, and I would ask, “What does that have to do with anything?”

Would you get all hot and shitty with your PC pukology if the word was tree, and I wanted to know what was wrong with trees?

Why don’t you tell me what those words mean? Or is it “PC” to even read them?

          • Jack defends women but not Collins being called an asshole. Jack confirmed feminist. Come back when you don’t forget your balls at the doorstep.

P.S. you strike me as the friend-zoned type and someone who writes death threats to players

          • What are you talking about? You compare apples and purples then babble about weird stuff.

Did that made sense when you submitted it? Are you going to blame the internet for changing your original post and making you look like a twerp?

          • You mean LLM, right? Left Labia Minora – which can also mean the left leg of a disgruntled frosh QB.

Odds StCH transfers now are greater than 40% and that Jack’s an overreacting feminist 85+%.

          • There is only one labia minora, and it is certainly not a part of a leg. Where did you study anatomy?

Besides, I think Tlingit is referring to the labia majora. I don’t know whose left he’s talking about, the woman’s or his.

          • What box? Does everyone else get a box? Am I box-less? I’m not worried about it since I’m more minimalistic than you propose. But I feel like

I need an actual MD (or anatomy major) to tell me if there is only one labia majora. I honestly don’t know. Does it stop at the perineum and another starts? Does it end there, like a horseshoe, then wrap around the pubis? Is there only one labia majora. It looks to me like there are two.

        • How many hits have you taken from D1 talent? Some 235# dude running a 4.6 40 blowing you up on the run? Zero? Shit hurts homie, don’t be a dickhead.

          • Nice… now we get to talk about what dickhead means.

            What does it mean?

I always thought that when a man thought with his penis (which can’t happen) he was chasing the object(s) of his desire. But this usage does not imply that really dumb idea.

  6. Y’all already read what I said in the last thread. That’s a good point about the defense though; it starts at that end and then offense is created within the flow of a general set. That’s what makes this so tough is that we are going to be watching a small lineup go against teams that go 6’1-6’3-6’6-6’9-6’11 so we give up a LOT of size at the conventional 3 and 4 spots. Thompson is serviceable on defense but he’s in there for his offense. I need a better look at the defense against a foreign opponent to really gauge where they are. Iona on November 17th is the real first look.

Also, we finally got a proper pronunciation of Rakocevic’s name: Raw-korch-a-vich. PA guy gonna have a field day.

Rueck with the nice pick up of Pivec. Real deal. Chances seem low on Ionescu though, since her brother just walked on at hole.

    • FWIW Re the front line: I’m not as concerned about the height of the healthy players as I am about their ages and experience.

I’m also wondering if Tinkle can get the team to play D the way they did last year.

Looking forward to how it all unfolds for both the men’s and women’s teams.

  7. OT-

The Clash. Did you have to be there?

I’ve been streaming punk rock from some random app on the Xbox while I’m working. Pretty decent overall, some obscure shit here and there. Every time a song comes on that I think “what the fuck is this terrible shit?” I go read it and it’s the Clash.

      • I’m not at all familiar with their stuff other than the obvious London Calling and Rock the Casbah (Fuck the chow hall). So I don’t know what it is they’re playing but it’s God Fucking awful. To be fair they’re playing obscure shit by bands I do know and if I wasn’t familiar with their other stuff I might think those bands sucked too.

  8. OT, more great work by OSU!

I’m so grateful to Oregon State and for every coach there who was able to touch him,” she says. “There are so many kids with talent who don’t get the opportunity. Oregon State got him ready for this. He has a maturity about him, and he got it from Oregon State

Michael Conforto’s mom, as quoted by Eggers.

  9. If sparky or the huskies had half of a functioning offense, they’d smoke the quacks. ASU without an offensive TD last week. Tied up with oregon at 17 just after the half.

Nice scheduling break for the duckies

  10. Seth Collins sprained his vulva while changing tampons.

And maybe i hate women, maybe I don’t. Or maybe I hate a few and like a few. Or maybe I love them all. Have fun with that one, PC police.

Maybe Seth should become a cheerleader. He’s pretty.

  11. Why do these ESPN slob knockers act like Adams is the second fucking coming of Marcus Mariota? Win or lose this game, the Ducks are irrelevant this season, but ESPN doesn’t want to accept it.

ASU should have won, but they may somehow find a way to lose it.

  12. Mitchell needs to take notes on how the ASU QB runs the read option. We don’t need him to go out and break big TD runs. Just need him to take the 5-6 yards when the defense continues to give it to him on the keep.

  13. Btw, for those who dont care to talk about vulvi (plural vulva? I’m too lazy to look it up) there was a new baseball commit tonight

    • Except for the continued use of the phrase, “Austin’s potential future NBA career,” he probably has a good case. Nikegon really fucked up in every direction with that incident.

  14. Holy fuck. I would’ve said strained penis but vulva is a much funnier word. It was a flippant joke I typed in 3 seconds before running off to a meeting. My bad

To all the lady BEAVS out there: I in no way, shape or form meant to imply you were/are the weaker sex with my crass joke. In fact I feel the contrary, I’ve been front and center watching my wife push an 8 lb bowling ball out of her, while I find myself sometimes complaining about gas. I’m in awe on a daily basis how she’s able to run a successful business, while caring for my son, and keeping tabs on everything else going on around us while I find myself to caught up in my own job. I love my mother, sister, wife. I already have love for my daughters that are on the way. I’m personally ready for a female president, just not Hilary.

    • Women are a weaker and fairer sex. It’s always been that way, and we love and protect them for it. That’s nature and what’s wrong with truth? You didn’t have to explain yourself to Jack, the rest of us got that you were joking.

      • Weaker in what way? I think you’re referring to physicality, not mentality. So that would be true on average. I don’t know why love mitigates that difference, if indeed it even needs to be mitigated. Women simply have different strengths than men. But they share more strengths than there are differences, by far. So concentrating on one is disingenuous when it’s really a symbiotic relationship.

And this doesn’t speak to any truth. If it does, and I am to take your words in defense literally, we are calling someone mentally weak and compare that mental weakness to womanhood with more than imprecise language… thinking it is funny in some way.

        Is that love?

    • Ugh!

Not wanting Hillary (and not listening to Obama’s campaign) is why we have another Wall Street tool in office. People fooled themselves into thinking Obama was only saying a couple catch phrases instead of hearing that he was just as far to the right of center as HRC is.

The idea that a woman’s body part is funny, and that supplants reason is what I’m getting at. I honestly don’t know what a “strained” penis would have to do with anything either. But at least he has one.

Why not go straight at the matter? Nobody has yet said he just has an inflated ego not worthy of his reality. Instead, it becomes about a really poor so-called joke. And it really does deserve to be about that, since it immediately distracts from the original topic with irrational and weird language. I hope none of you are calling for English to become the official language in this country, because this is a major fail… and you would be a hypocrite… on top of having dim wit.

      • Jack you are literally a walking anti-joke. When you enter the room people immediately turn down the music and go silent. Plants begin to die and animals hide in their nooks and cranny’s in fear of the ultra-serious Gestapo Jack.

  15. We are up an at em here in Sack Lake, everyone is putting the final touches on everything in anticipation of the lop sided beat down about to unfold.

I heard a stat that most of your alumni refer to themselves as painters on tax records than any other school in the database. Confirm/deny? For a study of sorts.

  16. So before the vulva injury thread closes, I’d like to share a little story:

I was in 7th grade health class, and we were in the sex-ed/gendered anatomy unit. My teacher tells us that one year a female student came up to her after class.

Student: Um, Miss [name], which are better to use? The plastic tampons, or the cardboard ones?

Teacher: I don’t understand. What do you mean?

Student: Well, I mean, the cardboard ones are harder for me to get in, but it’s uncomfortable to sit down with the plastic ones.

Teacher: Dear, that’s just the applicator. You’re supposed to take that out.

    Student: O___O

Yeah, my seventh grade self and now all of us are better for that story, you’re welcome

  17. I just finished watching the post-Colorado edition of “The Dive.” There is a scene with Baldwin in the post game locker room slumping against of post. Looks tired and defeated. Sort of like Jeb Bush campaigning. I can see why GA brought in Crowton, although at almost 60, does he have much energy left/

I can’t believe this type of television exposure is good for anything. They should consider backing out for the remainder of the season, as the losses mount.

Watching the show it’s apparant that GA is staring to run out of motivational tools. Most coaches, myself included, have a bag of tricks to help the team through the rough spots. GA has run through his material and is starting to repeat himself. Most coaches don’t have enough motivational gimmicks to get through much more than seven or eight defeats before the kids tune out and start thinking of self-preservation. JB

    • “…with Baldwin in the post game locker room slumping against of post. Looks tired and defeated…”

As well he should and that’s not taking into consideration his “habit”.

Speaking of his “habit”: if he’s not chugging diet cokes during the game and goes without for 3 or 4 hours that too would contribute to looking/being tired.

Imo anyone with a habit like that definitely has a few screws loose. and again IMO is questionable as being a leader of young men.

    • I’m pretty sure it’s a legally binding contract, so they couldn’t back out even if they want to. Andersen knew what he was probably getting into anyway.

Also, this still can be good television exposure so long as he shows his leadership abilities well on camera.

      • Quitting would be a worse look anyway. “We’re so bad we don’t want to be televised” wouldn’t fly.

Besides, The Drive covered Cal’s 1-11 year, and they’re doing okay.

  18. I think Garcia is a Beav. Look at the fonts — those are all the fonts the Beavs use, and the Beavs have been using posters and comics, so i wouldn’t be surprised if they came up with this puzzle idea.

    • That’s what I was thinking. He was impressed with the puzzle pages when he arrived.

How did he attain the puzzle for what he’s doing now?

      • My guess is he committed and then the marketing department came up with that idea. They have stepped up their game. The comics were really nice…recruits seeing themselves in the gear acting like superheros. Pretty effective stuff on both the conscious and subliminal levels.

If he winds up going to Utah this will be embarrassing.

        • I think you’re probably right except for the marketing department part. Alot of the graphic artwork is done in-house by the coaches. Specifically, I think Coach Bigelow does alot of the creative, but i’m not 100% sure there aren’t others helping.

Pretty clever idea if true. Gives the recruit a big spotlight for his commitment

          • I don’t even feel like watching the game, even though I will.

It’s supposed to be a monsoon here tomorrow, and I’m looking for excuses to get out and do yard work or something instead of watching it.

  19. Here’s film on the latest commit Murray:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSanpqrKDUI

I am not too impressed. Look how thick, short, and somewhat bow-legged his legs are…I’m not making fun of the guy for it. It’s out of his control. But, I don’t see how that translates to Pac 12 play. I feel this is the first Riley-esque recruit who is quite a reach.

    • Agree, doesn’t look fast enough to play LB at the college level, appears to dominate because of his size and strength and those advantages disappear at the next level. I watch his Jr tape someone posted earlier and he is getting beat down field on kickoff coverage and chased down from behind on a long run. Does appear to have a good feel for the game vs being just the most talented kid on the field that is using his athleticism to make plays.

      • I fail to see how he’s Riley-esque though. He’s already 40 pounds bigger and three inches taller than any Riley project. If he’s what fills in for depth, then we’re already doing better. Put a bunch like him on the field, and tell them to just go blow up stuff.

      • I wonder if they needed to offer him to create a pipeline/land another recruit (i.e. Garcia)…

With limited scholarships this cycle it wouldn’t make sense otherwise.

I see a ST/scout team player here, but the services have him at 3-stars, so maybe I’m missing something. His lower body looks awkward (stout, bow legged, etc), and that is a lot to overcome in many aspects, including injury. Maybe he has some intangibles that will help the team.

        • If he’s going to be a hole plugging MLB then having good instincts and a stout base is a good place to start. Should be able to add the 20 lbs of upper body muscle without losing much speed, get out there and crack some skulls.

          • I agree. His 40 time has sources of 4.56 and 4.84 that I saw. I thought he looked like a wrecking ball with a stout base. I also thought he looked quick with a solid start when running. I definitely think he lacks the top end speed and won’t be catching many from behind on long runs. His skill set is what you would expect for the most part for an inside linebacker, which is what he said the coaches wanted him for. I think his shear strength will still translate well in college. We haven’t had very many 250# inside linebackers recently and he could easily be one as he is already listed 6 foot 3 inch and 240# by scout and 225# by rivals. I can see how his body type is kind of awkward, but it actually may be benefit is some ways.

  20. Speaking of Fonts, Garcia’s puzzel looks more like Washington State Cougs font than anything. Noticed more than a few Coug’s tweeting at him lately, like they’re still in it.

Maybe he’s going to pull a big surprise. Who knows.

      • It’s Nike. They do things on the cheap and call it cutting edge. If you have any doubts, Wazzu’s fonts all have the strange pointy part on the top left, not the top right. Take a look at the 2.

        • Watson Creative out of Portland does all their media now. Nike doesn’t have much to with that side of operations anymore. Although the founder of Watson is an old Nike designer so that might explain the similarities.

          • We’re talking about the fonts. Each is different, but only with little tweaks. I’m assuming Watson is using fonts associated with whatever client they serve.

      • Actually… just the number matches. But you’re right. The other fonts have been on previous materials.

Notice O-live edited the photo… or got an original from the source?

        • We gave Nemec the original.

Adding the fonts was a way to dissuade mamma machado from lifting material. She likes to steal, then claim how hard she works for her subscribers.

          • If I get people to pay me $10 per month, I could go babble incessantly over there. This makes me wonder about my current business model. Why am I babbling incessantly for free?

          • How about this, Jack: Supply and demand says if you withhold the supply of your babble, you can charge more for it. Let’s get that babble price up to a million dollars per rant. Sound good?

          • Yes… but trickle down? People will aspire to be me, therefore they will act irrationally and just give me money in the expectation that I will actually do something for them.

People are just so so very stupid sometimes. I could go advertise that I have a subscription site and actually get people to give me money on PayPal within the hour. If I invoke some deity, I could do it tax free. It doesn’t even matter what topic is chosen. People are that stupid.

          • Apparently she actually did use the watermarked version in her lodge today, then later removed it after realizing it came from this site. Curious if any blitzer on here can tell me if still using this one from nemec’s story? Because again, that would mean she used it without permission.

You’d think she would just simply ask, probably say yes. Instead she just takes. What’s the saying? “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness later than it is to get permission now”

          • Then she turns around and accuses everyone of stealing her “inside info”, which she steals from sources we now know, takes the profit, and without any kickback to them. But oh what she does for her readers! The fools who pay for that…

          • Now now, the Machado heart is a fickle thing. You know how it is, first she gets taken in and infatuated with the flash and earrings of Seth. They meet up, have some nice interviews together… She believes with all her heart he’s the one. But then time goes on, she matures, and realizes she wants a man in her life with a little more QB substance. Sure she didn’t give Nick a second glance back in week 5 when she was young and foolish. But now she is thinking about settling on a man to lead the offense for the future.

Classic, really, nothing wrong with that :)

          • Then again, the mundane are often the most accessible, if not most colorful. Rich fucks think they are edgy because they prop bet with others’ lives. Poor people live that bet.

            Get it?

            Bet?

          • Copyright law is weird stuff. As I understand it, once you send someone something via email it becomes their property. So you editing Garcia’s pic is fine. Nemec editing yours is fine. But a copy off the web requires, at the very least, sourcing and credit.

I don’t really care in this instance other than the profit-taking aspect.

  21. Garcia looks like the real deal, and he was a USC commit. I’m surprised he’s not a 4-star. Wonder if he gets a bump at some point. He’s a 5.7, which is the highest rated 3 star possible.

  22. OT: Surprise..(really)…..Lindsay tweets link to Brenda Tracy’s own account in SI of the rape under Riley’s watch. Must expect readers to focus only on Tracy’s classy last two paragraphs and not on the entire story of the crime and “consequences”.

I was surprised she (Brenda) gave Riley, along with Pres. Ray, equal credit for, “healing between me and Oregon State”. This after outlining MR’s original response. She is a strong lady and has gone a long way toward putting that crime behind her.

Tracy highlights the need for action at next weeks meeting between school presidents and the Commissioner. Will Dr. Ray bring this up? Will MR weigh in from afar?

      • I’m hoping Riley loses to Purdue, but I do want to hear the ensuing press conference.

“Well, uh, gotta give credit to Purdue… They’re a heckuva football team. I think we just, uh, needed to make…ya know, make more plays. Huh? No, I’m not planning on making any, um, staff changes…*chew chew*”

  23. Call me capital obvious but the difference in recruiting between the old gang and the new staff is light years apart in a good way. This is how you build a successful program. I would not be shocked if we get a couple of more Chandler kids before signing day. I’m not giving up on Henry yet this staff has shown they can close on big time talent even with not having a airport and all the rain.

    • From 247 sports rankings

      2016 14 commits, 84.34 average ranking

      2015 21, 82.81

      2014 30, 81.37

      2013 25, 83.81

      2012 23, 83.4

      2011 25, 82.60

      2010 19, 83.57

      2009 25, 82.26

      2008 19, 81.66

Highest average in at least 8 years. If we could actually take 25 guys, I think we’d end up with a top 30 class or so.

  24. Quick Update:
From Danny Moran of the Oregonian:
Oregon State QB Seth Collins did not travel with the team to Utah, per a team spokesman. The decision was injury-related (knee).

  25. Expecting we hear news from Whitson eather tonight or tomorrow. Would cap off a pretty productive recruiting week on the defensive side of the ball

    • I think he caught the coaches off guard a little with that commitment coming tonight. I think they expected him to take one more official visit to another school first, but he decided not to. I’m guessing from the lack of coach tweets going out after this one, that we can consider this commit “unofficial” at this moment, but it will probably stand.

  26. Is anyone besides me not buying some of these injuries and maybe some of the players are being disciplined internally instead? For whatever reason?

    • Agreed. I don’t know if they have ever come out and said someone was left behind for disciplinary reasons. I feel like a lot of “injuries” are happening to players with bad attitudes or the ones who can’t/won’t give 100%.

    • it’s a cover story; just like Grimble and Storm. It’s pretty clear Seth didn’t take the demotion (which it was effectively) well and I’m guessing he faked the injury thinking in his juvenile way “that’ll show em.” Here’s the thing though: since Collins not only did not progress but regressed, and made the offense all too predictable, with him on the pine (or in Corvallis, same diff) we get BOTH a better run game and passing game. The first, because Mitchell will hand off to Nall or Storm or whomever on the read option rather than hogging the ball, and when he passes, he’s 10-15% more likely to connect with a receiver. It seems clear now in retrospect that the staff thought Collins would both show better judgment on the read option and pass game with enough game experience, but neither happened. We can question why it took so long for someone other than Seth to get some serious playing time, but better late than never as the saying goes.

  27. Oregon State is probably my No. 1 right now, seeing as how I could maybe come in and start immediately. That, to me, is amazing.”

One of the biggest selling points, for Unutoa-Whitson, was the the coaching staff sold him on substance, not flash.

“The coaches are telling me that if I want to come for the materialistic things, don’t come,” he said. “I’m buying in to this ‘starting young and making a new team’ thing. They are graduating a lot of seniors and it’s a young team. I want to make an impact real quick, get the opportunity to display my talent.”

Despite his low rating as a prospect, Unutoa-Whitson has been highly productive on the field, registering 12 sacks as a junior.

Oregon State now has 15 known commitments in the class of 2016, but with four defenders added to the mix this week, it’s clear that number could rise at any time

    http://www.oregonlive.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2015/10/oregon_state_beavers_add_2nd_c.html#incart_river_home

Sounds to me like the coaches are selling early PT and an opportunity to start. OSU IS NOT graduating a lot of seniors. But some of the non seniors aren’t Pac-12 caliber talent. My two worthless pesos

  28. Nebby/Purdon’t at 9am on ESPNU in the battle for the basement in the B1G west division tomorrow. Don’t miss this epic showdown of ineptness! If Simple Jack can lose to an FCS team twice, he’s got it in him to fuck this one up against a team as bad as Purdon’t (they’re averaging 14 pts per game in B1G play)

    Then there’s this gem………………..

    Mitch Sherman ESPN Staff Writer

Junior Ryker Fyfe will start at quarterback for Nebraska on Saturday at Purdue as Tommy Armstrong Jr. continues to recover from an ankle injury. Armstrong has started 22 consecutive games.
