Giving Utah a shorter field is more stupid. Would you trust this offense to pick up two yards? They couldn’t convert on 4th and less than a yard last week and a worse opponent
So stupid that team keeps running it out of the endzone. Have to make 3 guys miss just to get to the 12 or 13 yardline. SO FRICKING STUPID!! GA needs to stop this. Run it when outside the endzone only!!!
Our defense continues the trend of looking atrocious. I mean, Sitake literally was on their sideline for years, you think he’d have a little better gameplan.
I’m so done with Bolden as well. He can’t follow his blockers on that 2nd and 1 and go up field, and he insists on taking the ball out of the endzone on kickoffs which always leads to a short field. He got lucky there and got us one or two more yards than we would have had on a touchback.
Mitchell looks like a more complete QB. Not as much of an athlete as Collins. But we don’t need that. Leave that up to our RB/WR while making the correct zone read.
running the wildcat and abandoning the scheme that got you down the field is the kind of counter-intuitive thing the old crew would have done. go with the momentum.
I though the 2nd wildcat with Storm was pushing it. Wasted play. I’d rather they lineup and run Nall there. Storm goes down too easy so if he gets yardage the first time don’t push it.
The offense flows better with Mitchell. I don’t care what any stats or 40 times say. Playbook is more open with better flow and execution. With Collins it was one step forward, two back, and every play was street ball/busted where he ran around and nothing happened. This looks more like an offense no matter what happens the rest of the way. Mitchell can run enough to be effective. Not sure on his passing yet…looks hit and miss so far but overall a lot better than Collins’ passing.
I think it makes sense to develop Mitchell’s passing; it definitely has more potential than Collins. If Collins attitude is that bad, I hope he’s gone, otherwise he should be some hybrid/athlete and not our QB.
So NM drives them down the field then they go wildcat twice? Seems like the passing threat is needed in those 1st and goal plays to keep the defense from crowding the line
Looked like the CB got a bit handsy on that play, but not sure if the WR ran to the wrong spot, or Mitchell just didn’t hit the spot. Still our best drive in a while.
pretty good drive. Utes helped out the cause with a few penalties. Didn’t like the 2nd consecutive wildcat call. Especially inside the 10. Defense able to get some rest after being on the field most of the game so far.
I need to see him with 5 or 6 games and a viable QB to answer that. The play calling has mostly been okay, but the execution awful. When they execute the offense looks good. All his past offenses were explosive. So yeah, I still am bullish on him I guess. Definitely some questionable calls, tho
Look at the bigs up front. Didn’t think our defensive line would be our best defensive unit at the start of the season, but…everyone else is setting a low bar.
agreed and they did. I think that was the plan all along and just trying to kill clock. Take the 3, try and hold for the last 1:20 or so on D and go into the half down 14-6. Beavs get the ball to start the 2nd half.
Inside the 10 yard line, use Collins at QB, Nall at RB. Use Mitchell everywhere else. Might work nicely since passing inside the 10 becomes much more difficult and Collins can just run it in.
It would also allow Collins to get the glory he craves, since he’d be scoring a lot of TDs. I think it’s good solution to this for the rest of the year.
He’s probably crying and filling out his transfer papers, in between changing tampons. Let’s just say he isn’t home due to injury, but rather an altercation with GA, according to reputable people around the program.
GA is probably giving him one last shot to get his act together.
According to ESPN Mitchell is leading with the number of rushes 7. I have to question Baldwin calling NM’s number that many times, especially when OSU only has 2 QBs at the game.
Can’t help but wonder if DB is even taking that into consideration. Drinking 18 cokes a day could/would do that to you.
I’m tired of those screens to the outside that take forever to develop. They catch it 2 to 3 yards behind the line and nothing ever comes from that. We have to have NM throw quick west coast style routes. I also don’t understand the designed qb draws that the Utah dline just eats up all day…and play Nall cuz stormie looks lost.
Baldwin had a shitacular season his first year as OC at CSU, but was great other than that at CSU and at USU. I say give him next year and if he’s still garbage we need to make a change (maybe just promoting McGiven).
You need to give them time to get players that fit their spread system. Pro Style to Spread is a huge change.
Still, there’s a big difference in being a coordinator at the Pac-12 level compared to the Mountain West. Baldwin and McGiven might be out matched, but I’m giving them more time to prove it.
yup. The one time they complete one down the field it’s called back on a penalty. The Bolden fly sweep on 2nd and 15 that picks up 12 is a first down without the penalty on the previous play.
I still like Ricky, how long has he played d1 lb? He did need to breakdown though. I still can’t believe Wilson makes as many plays as he does, that’s the most awkward looking dude running the ball.
Someone on Blitz reporting that Collins and Andersen got into a “disagreement” which lead to him leaving practice, not playing today. The source said, however, that Collins IS hurt, but that wasn’t the complete reason why he isn’t with the team today.
Another commenter saying that they have inside knowledge regarding Collins and it’s not good, but doesn’t feel comfortable sharing because it’s nothing anyone needs to know the specifics of, but it could come out eventually. He just doesn’t want to be the one to spill it.
These guys don’t how to present a story. One guy says he’s heard “rumors” from reliable people. WTF!? I wouldn’t be surprised at the validity but c’mon.
That game has turned ugly for the offense. D has played well.
Nall with 0 carries. Awful. Despite NM playing poised and managing the game, the bottom line is he is throwing for 4.4 yards per completion and put up 0 points. They constantly seem one [made] play away from doing things, but they don’t make the play, then drives fail.
I hope you’re right but wtf down at the goal line? Every time they get close they run that misdirection play. Run your 240 lb back off tackle or up the gut!
I think so too b/c the pac 12 is pretty horrible this year. utah is very overrated. ucla stinks. cal stinks.
any of them can put up 50 on a given day, but overall they’re all mediocre and bad by historical standards
I don’t know what to make of Baldwin. His past teams put up huge numbers.
BUT, like 5 play calls tonight made zero sense. Inexcusable at much lower levels of the game, so how is he doing it here? I think he tries to get too finesse and cute as well.
UCLA’s defense isn’t nearly as good as Utah, and they also have a freshman quarterback under center (although he’s better than any of ours). Add that to being at home, and I think I’ll be storming the field Saturday.
I believe Scott and Decoud will be back next week, not sayin’ they can’t be torched but less likely than the kids out there tonight. Hopefully DB reconsiders and uses Nall vs UCLA.
Mitchell is a backup, too. Probably could be a pretty good one. Didn’t do anything tonight to lose the job the rest of this year, but he’s a backup at this level.
No clue what MM is yet, but Collins and Mitchell are backups.
Absolutely disagree. Is he Andrew Luck? No. But he’s a redshirt freshman playing his 2nd game.
Everyone is so quick to judge nowadays. YOU AREN’T SUPPOSED TO EVEN PLAY THIS EARLY! And he’s out here competing against a great defense. He missed some throws. So what? He has 4 years to grow.
People need to chill out. The team has shown a lot of growth in the last few games.
Don’t understand your willingness to give Cokey a pass, and actually defend him and his lack of use of Nall, but ready to proclaim NM is a never will be capable, after 1.5 games.
I don’t understand it either, but that’s what I see, and I’d be surprised if Baldwin’s offense doesn’t put up big numbers next year, and I’d be surprised if Mitchell becomes a viable starter. I do think Mitchell would make a very nice backup. I also think GA needs to recruit a big time QB talent, and he isn’t, so I don’t get that…
Not buying that. He kept running Wilson, doesn’t happen unless Kyle is concerned about the outcome. Until very late he really didn’t have much chance to ease up on his buddy.
I’m encouraged by the effort on the road against the #13 ranked team. I had them losing 44-10. They didn’t quit and kept fighting. Take away those first two drives and overall the defense played fairly solid and they were only outscored 13-12. I AM questioning why Ryan Nall did not get a single carry but I am not as down on Baldwin as some are. The two plays I question most were the 2nd wildcat run by Woods from the 5 yard line and the Bolden wildcat on the 2 pt conversion. I really don’t like the wildcat offense period. Unless the guy taking the snap has the ability to throw it, I don’t like those calls against an aggressive front 7 like Utah. The good, zero turnovers. Slowly I think this team is starting to grow up and I do believe they will get someone before the season is over. Colorado played FUCLA close today. I don’t see them as world beaters. UW either. Their offense is just as anemic. I think those are they best two chances. Mitchell needs to be the starter moving forward
NM got happy feet – which is understandable due to a lack of experience BUT the pocket was there for most of the night. That pass to Villy down the middle he just needed to settle down but he throws behind. No one within 10 yards of Jordan and a lot of field in front of him…
I was only able to watch the some of the 4th (at my son’s football game). I haven’t had time to look at this entire thread. I was checking stats on my phone. Was Nall injured early on?
For those who don’t have radio:
Jim Wilson thinks Baldwin called a good game given the injuries. Says Nall wasn’t used because running into the middle is going against the strength of a very strong D.
It is unusual for me to differ from Big Jim, but I still think a few carries would have been worthwhile. May not have gone for more than 2 to 4 yds, but would give Ute’s D something to consider.
There is no law saying Nall can’t hit off tackle a couple of times.. He’s a load to tackle no matter how “acclaimed” the opponents defense is. You can’t go from rushing for 120 yards one week to getting ZERO carries by design the next week. That’s idiotic and although I’m sure Nall is a team guy, he is probably thinking WTF.
If NM is the starter going forward then the play calling needs to be catered towards him. No more designed qb runs. The only time NM should be running is off the read option. I also can’t stand the screens on the outside that take long to develop, we need to get rid of those asap. I also think that Bolden should only be involved on returns and maybe a few runs off sweeps to the outside. No reason for NM to throw to him if he’s gonna keep up with his drops.
I really like the effort overall though. Our defense played great besides a few whiffs. Also, when was the last time our special team coverage in particular has looked so good? I think if it wasn’t for the shifty playcalling which was mostly the third down calls we could have put ourselves in a better position to win. I’m still not sold on Baldwin…
Bolden had an OK game but messed up a couple times. Needed his production. Problem was never running Nall. Especially in the 4th with Utah tired there were times it could have been effective thrown in to help keep the chains moving. Best fight from the team this year but more so on the defensive side of the ball where tackling and effort were much improved. Felt like they were playing for all 60 minutes like you have to do every game.
QB B-: 19-35 200 yards 1 TD no INTs. Had a few blown throws late(fades, one slant, one deep throw into loose double coverage) but also stuck several nice ones and ran the ball very well. Showed good quickness. Really hope they fix his long throwing motion in the offseason.
RB D-: Storm had 9 carries for 21 yards. Utah’s defense is great, but that’s still really bad. And several times he just ran into linemen and dropped like old Storm. Lots of people asked why Nall got no carries. It’s odd to give him none, but we clearly weren’t interested in running vs Utah’s front 7, either.
WRs C: Villamin made some nice plays, including that 70 yarder toward the end. Guyton Was much better. Bolden was decent running and godawful receiving. Jarmon was targeted I think once, and dropped that 30+ yarder right off his hands. Disappointing day overall.
OLine C: Protected Mitchell reasonably well, but opened no running lanes(as expected). Illegal lineman downfield killed a great pass though.
DLine B: The entire defense stunk for the first quarter. After that, the line got pressure and tackled Booker pretty well. Peko once again stood out. He isn’t getting sacks, but he is being disruptive.
LBs D: Willis had a few nice plays, and Mageo almost decapitated a WR, but overall they were invisible yet again.
Secondary D+: The corners were Fs; they blew coverages all night and missed lots of tackles. Strong had a good game, looking like he did last year.
Special Teams C: Good kicks, made 2 FGs, and no blown catches. Didn’t make any plays in the return game, but didn’t give any up, either.
Coaching C+: A few sketchy offensive play calls aside(Stupid WildBeaver) Baldwin’s playcalling was much better, and I think the strategy of avoiding running straight at Utah’s defense was correct. It also gave Mitchell lots of meaningful reps. Defensively, Sitake called some good pressures, but I think his playcalling is hindered right now by the complete lack of talent at CB, so he has to play more conservatively than he wants.
This was, overall, the best-coached and best-played game by the Beavers this year(our wins vs scrub teams don’t count). The offense scored some points vs a great defense, and the defense clamped down on a great RB and highly-ranked team. Lots of development the last few weeks, so we seem to be turning things around. I wouldn’t expect more than 1-2 more wins this season, but we all new it was a throwaway year anyway; play the young guys, let them develop, get a talented class or two in, and then we’ll be competitive.
Horowitz gave the LB’s a B; your evaluation matches mine. Only reason I can think of is that Horowitz is saying a “B” for guys with their lack of experience, still not sure I buy it.
That was the type of game even in defeat all of us were clamouring for. Team played hard and competed. A couple of big plays go our way and we are right there.. Well done mostly across the board
You just got run to the wire by the JV, then you show up and brag? You should be embarrassed, but since your just a duck troll, that comes with bandwagon hopping. By the way you never responded about getting out recruited in your own state, if you really are a ute fan?
speaking of JV, lose the sophomoric shtick you cousin fucking duck troll. What will it be this next week? Bruins ruin Beavs? You’re as predictable as most of the bandwagon duck crowd
Gina quotes Andersen regarding StHC: “It wasn’t best for him to be able to make the trip and, quite frankly, stand on the sidelines.”
Postgame, Andersen pretty satisfied with NM’s poise and management of the O. Specifically mentioned NM moving guys around when they weren’t correctly lined up.
I don’t think those are reasons enough to go away from Nall. Needed to go to plays with Nall. At a minimum honesty runs to Nall. Makes me really question the mental facility of coke zero. But, I am glad it is being addressed post game, and I hope they learn from that boneheaded coaching.
I mean seriously, they are saying to the team, well… The other team is really good, so umm, let’s not even try.
Gobeavs
Go Beavs!
I like how all the telecasters are uber bearish on the Beavs. Usually that’s a sign the opposite will happen. Same with stock markets.
Not saying the Beavs will win, but the odds these guys are all right are low.
Reminds of the USC games we won!
Except our teams that beat USC those times were way better than this
So far it looks like those guys were right to be overly bearish. I mean that was one of the most bearish pregames I have ever seen. But, I guess it was justified and they are that bad.
Going to watch until it’s ugly. So around 10-15 minutes.
This should be interesting and painful
That Seth Collins promo…
That was funny and he didn’t make the trip. Something tells me Collins isn’t hurt! I’m with Angry on this one. GA, didn’t elaborate.
The only angle I think is interesting:
We poached a bunch of coaches from Utah. Any chance inside schematic knowledge gives us an edge? Think Sark beating USC with a far inferior Washington team after they hired him away from the OC job there.
Premade package focused on OSU players not even playing this week. Good stuff P12 network.
Please tell me that wasn’t Nolan Lewis with another whiffed sack
Finally good uniform combo, no beaver on helmet.
noland lewis misses every time
Why even blitz? We always run in high and out of control and get made to look silly. Do the coaches not drill proper blitzing mechanics ( stay low and run through the qb) or do we just not execute EVERY single time
The Pac-12 Network is so terrible. The broadcasts feel so lifeless.
Wilson is the fastest 6’7 QB I’ve seen. Mitchell better be able to run a bit. Our D is always out of position.
Again, 3-4 has 4 linebackers and yet none of them make tackles. WTF is the point?
Is your point that the 3-4 is a bad defense..? Because that’s wrong and frankly just completely ignorant.
My point is why do WE run it if we have 4 useless LBs. Why don’t you cool your jets.
Familiarity and building for the future. It IS going to be the base defense going forward and has been since day 1. Don’t have the personnel to just run it very well right now
Booker is good.
Also, this just in, water is wet. ;^)
Saw him play at jc vs CCSF. Beavers preferred Bobby Keenan.
Another wasted scholly… Has that guy ever played?
Victor “stutter step” Bolden
What is with this shitty, low camera angle?
Nice throw on the hook route for the first.
Mitchell’s already exceeds Seth with two completions
And another nice throw on the rollout.
Hate that. Call on 2nd and 1
trying to have Bolden run costs them this possession. So, Bolden -1 already.
That’s on the Baldwin et al.. No need to get that cute on 2 and 1. Fly sweep or read option there and get the first down
Nice punt coverage… For a change
Punting on 4th and 2 is stupid.
That was a nice throw to Nall on 3rd down, he just couldn’t hang on.
Giving Utah a shorter field is more stupid. Would you trust this offense to pick up two yards? They couldn’t convert on 4th and less than a yard last week and a worse opponent
They’re going to score anyway. And they were picking up yardage just fine until 1. Direct snap to Bolden, and 2. Throw to Nall.
Utah D line just overpowering Beavs O line so far. Nice special teams tackling there on the punt return though
Seemed like a long punt. How many yards?
Hill… Ugh
So stupid that team keeps running it out of the endzone. Have to make 3 guys miss just to get to the 12 or 13 yardline. SO FRICKING STUPID!! GA needs to stop this. Run it when outside the endzone only!!!
Oh man… This is bad.. We aren’t anywhere near the ball
And strong worse… Ugh
Our defense continues the trend of looking atrocious. I mean, Sitake literally was on their sideline for years, you think he’d have a little better gameplan.
Yep, this is going to be another blowout.
They really shouldn’t have raised ticket prices at Reser, because this team currently isn’t worth it.
Tough question, but which is worse:
1. Defense
2. QB play
?
Defense, not close.
QB play giving a run for the money. Are you seeing the same throws I am?
D
I’m so done with Bolden as well. He can’t follow his blockers on that 2nd and 1 and go up field, and he insists on taking the ball out of the endzone on kickoffs which always leads to a short field. He got lucky there and got us one or two more yards than we would have had on a touchback.
That’s a good run by Nick
“Collins is the answer for this program”
I’m not so sure about that.
That was hysterical!
And another nice rollout throw.
Love how Mitchell held that throw for just a second longer to not throw the pick on teh slant.
Are you a friend or family of Mitchell?
Lol
Mitchell runs pretty well.
He’s not a statue, that’s for sure.
He runs well enough to move the chains, he doesn’t have to hurdle defenders to be effective.
Mitchell has to tuck the ball better on the run.
Swing and a miss
Really think we should play Strong at LB. He’s the only ballhawk on the field sometimes.
And another flail arm tackle on a little bitty guy
Whiffed open-field tackle, extra 12 yards for the first down. Classic.
You can always count on Noland Lewis to miss 1 on 1 tackles.
flailbacker
This isn’t very interesting. Key to the appeal of sports is the uncertainty in the outcome.
Get that whiffer out of the ball game! Man he sucks.
Good D by James there.
hey the defense forced a punt! Now we’re rolling lol
3 and out bitches… Here comes the, um, offensive offense.
Almost an int, but a stop none the less. We’re on a roll now
Mitchell is not slow!
Nope NM can’t run. Well he’s no collins at running
I told you guys Mitchell could run a little!
These types of runs are totally fine.
concur. Mitchell can run a lot better than Mannion and he can pass better than Collins
That’s how/when a qb should run
Good screen/slant. Throw more to Ill-amin!
It seems like the play calling on this drive is better, maybe, maybe it’s because we are moving the ball.
Didn’t like that play on 1st down, but other than that I think it has been pretty good.
Jarmon!!! Gotta catch that.
WR need to catch the ball, duh!
That should have been caught and been a TD
Dam Jarmon has to catch that
A wobbly duck and a bit high but Jarmon’s gotta catch that.
Mitchell looks like a more complete QB. Not as much of an athlete as Collins. But we don’t need that. Leave that up to our RB/WR while making the correct zone read.
+100
GJ Mitchell! Drawing them offside. Don’t like that play call though.
It’s looking like the play calling is reverting back to the mean. In other words …………………
Baldwin is fucking up yet again.
Im not sure if it’s the play calling or NM is making better decisions.
Wild Beaver!!! Nice run beforehand by Mitchell. Again.
It seems like they assume he’s harmless or something accept for the 8 yards a carry he’s ripping off
Why run the same play twice?? Gah that killed this drive
Baldwind is reverting to the mean. In other words back to bad calls.
Pretty bad. If you’re going to go Wild Beaver a second time, he has to throw there. Too easy to just have 11 guys staring at the RB.
Because storm told them too..
running the wildcat and abandoning the scheme that got you down the field is the kind of counter-intuitive thing the old crew would have done. go with the momentum.
Drinking 18 diet cokes a day can’t help with clear thinking.
Same formation slant to villamin up top
NIck Mitchell is making me eat my words and turning me into a believer. Right now, he looks like he should be the starter moving forward
We need NallBall
I though the 2nd wildcat with Storm was pushing it. Wasted play. I’d rather they lineup and run Nall there. Storm goes down too easy so if he gets yardage the first time don’t push it.

if they call the fade here I’m gonna puke
Hope you had a bucket
So NM drives them down the field then they go wildcat twice? Seems like the passing threat is needed in those 1st and goal plays to keep the defense from crowding the line
NallBall is the answer inside the 5
how times do we have to fail on a fade route before Baldwin learns this team can’t execute it. Another Rileyism
Nice drive, disappointing end. But, rest for the D……as if it will make a big difference.
You were saying????
Baldwin needs to stop with the repeat plays in the same series. Lol
Why do they keep onside kicking? This is on coaching again.
Maybe he’s trying that sabremetrics thing
Special teams this year has been ridiculously awful, and GA is the special teams coach, right? WTF.
Angry, I know you aren’t too down on Diet Coke but even with our lack of talent I haven’t been to impressed. You still think he’s our OC answer?
I need to see him with 5 or 6 games and a viable QB to answer that. The play calling has mostly been okay, but the execution awful. When they execute the offense looks good. All his past offenses were explosive. So yeah, I still am bullish on him I guess. Definitely some questionable calls, tho
…too impressed.
Makes sense. The execution has been bad but some of the play calling has been odd.
D-fence
Stuffed!!!
Look at the bigs up front. Didn’t think our defensive line would be our best defensive unit at the start of the season, but…everyone else is setting a low bar.
At least the defense is finally standing up. Mitchell definitely looks better than Collins, too.
I can’t stand this camera work.
Fu StHC
Holy moly, that Mitchell spin move.
Exactly right, your qb doesn’t have to hurdle or run every down to be effective running. NM has a good feel for what to do and when
Mitchell! Nice spin move for the 1st down!
Think Utah fans are upset their team is letting the backup QB run all over them? ;)
Doubt it. They don’t see us as a serious threat and figure the players don’t, either
“Lightning quick Bolden” needs to stop slowing down.
Baldwin’s latest plan….. Get Mitchell injured, that way his boy is back in again.
Baldwin really just needs points, or else he could be gone fast. Probably more concerned with that.
Really wish Bolden would run less side to side.
Yet another great call by the coke head.
Woods doesn’t look like his knee’s bothering him too much… Nice to see a little of Grimble.
See, Lucas shoots the gap and runs with authority.
#16 Lucas kid runs Full Speed straight ahead he can run thru any crack and with a good block its to the house baby!!! Just sayn Speed Kills
Lots of dinking and dunking and run plays. Working to get down the field (slowly) but hard to score in the redzone with that.
They should kick the FG. Make it 1 possession. I mean why is this so hard?
agreed and they did. I think that was the plan all along and just trying to kill clock. Take the 3, try and hold for the last 1:20 or so on D and go into the half down 14-6. Beavs get the ball to start the 2nd half.
Trying to kill clock AND hoping to draw Utes offside; might have worked if snapper would have bobbed his head with a change in cadence.
Mitchell looking good
low scoring first half like 2013 there and already a better performance than 2011 when Whittingham’s staff laughed Riley’s crew out of town
It is hard to count the ways in which GA’s coaching is markedly better than what we saw from MR.
One example: the use of TO’s.
I’m okay with kicking the field goal, but I wish Andersen didn’t use the timeout there. Might need it in case we get the ball back before the half.
I agree with Big Jim; snapper could have done a better job drawing Utes offside.
If we hold them here, you have to be happy with the first half, right? We’ve looked better than them this quarter and aren’t out of it.
How about this for some creativity:
Inside the 10 yard line, use Collins at QB, Nall at RB. Use Mitchell everywhere else. Might work nicely since passing inside the 10 becomes much more difficult and Collins can just run it in.
That’s what I would do.
Indeed. Just treat him like a Wildcat back. Who can throw slightly better than the average RB.
It would also allow Collins to get the glory he craves, since he’d be scoring a lot of TDs. I think it’s good solution to this for the rest of the year.
Of he’s acting like a punk do you still want him on the team?
Mageo with the nice tackle
That’s a hospital pass
Whoa, Mageo with the big hit! Hope Ute player is ok
Shoulda gone for it!
Mageo lit that guy up!
Weird timeout for Utah.
He(17) makes one tackle and acts like he’s Richard Sherman.
“Tackle” AKA dove at his legs and this time they actually fell over.
Ah, so yeah, just like Sherman.
55 yards passing but 9-12 completions. And that throw to Jarmon could have been a TD(Imagine if that was Illamin back there).
Mitchell at QB for the next 4 years. How do you think Collins is reacting back in his dorm?
Not so sure about 4 years, but I was wondering the same about StHC’s reaction.
Play of the game:
Seth Collins spraining his vulva Thursday and staying home *throws grenade at board and ducks*
Awwww no one bit :(
He is probably polishing his earrings.
He’s probably crying and filling out his transfer papers, in between changing tampons. Let’s just say he isn’t home due to injury, but rather an altercation with GA, according to reputable people around the program.
GA is probably giving him one last shot to get his act together.
Pregame dorks backtracking their blowout prediction now.
Decent 1st half. Ryan Gold Rush Nall needs to get the ball more in the 2nd half.
YES ^^
I saw your post in the Husker chat. Thanks for sending our gratitude :)
Storm has been good. They can split some carries, but I think Storm’s speed getting away from that front 4 of Utah is important.
Re: the Husker chat, it was the least I could do….can’t afford an airplane banner!
Again according to ESPN: Nall has zero carries.
How many rushes for Woods, Nall and the receivers on fly sweeps?
http://espn.go.com/college-football/boxscore?gameId=400757065
He’s our leading rusher in terms of yards and ypa. Without that the offense would be struggling even more
.
No, they should be using the RBs more and the QB less. Only 2 QBs suited up and putting him in harms way that much is, imo, stupidl
Course, when you’re downing 18 diet cokes a day clear thinking is a bit too much.
Is Vanderveen playing? It would be nice to see a pass to a TE.
Conforto goes deep!
Love these rollout plays.
Nooooo!!!! That was a great play.
Penalty wipes out 30 yard pass, and then bad play call buries the drive.
I’m sorry I doubted you Mitchell!
That’s the problem with playing young true freshman. They line make simple mistakes like that that negate plays.
Thanks Will…
Run Nall. I’m done with Woods.
Storm ran straight into the line. Looked like there was lots of space outside.
Wilson called him out on it on radio too
He’s always just run into the back of the OL. Nice kid mediocre player.
Nice special team play.
Incredibly conservative 3rd and 10 play to call a WR inside screen. Not a fan.
Baldwin loves those screens…
Bad call. Screen short of the sticks against this D is effing DUMB!
Special teams on fire
I’m tired of those screens to the outside that take forever to develop. They catch it 2 to 3 yards behind the line and nothing ever comes from that. We have to have NM throw quick west coast style routes. I also don’t understand the designed qb draws that the Utah dline just eats up all day…and play Nall cuz stormie looks lost.
Designed QB draws………. Great way to get your QB injured.
Good blitz, just couldn’t get there in time.
Willis making some plays. Looks like a solid part of the youth movement.
Trying to make up for last week, good kid.
Peko in the backfield again, nice job.
Beaver D is bringing it tonight. Too bad Baldloss isn’t
Sitake with nice game tonight, Cokey not so much
Baldwin had a shitacular season his first year as OC at CSU, but was great other than that at CSU and at USU.
STRONG TACKLE!
Woot, nicely timed blitz
Another nice blitz. Defense is starting to step it up!
Can’t blame Sitake or the defense for the past two games (well, so far in this game). The offense needs to be able to score touchdowns.
“This is the Sitake D we were advertised.”
this team has NO margin for error. every penalty is a killer. They have to learn that
yup. The one time they complete one down the field it’s called back on a penalty. The Bolden fly sweep on 2nd and 15 that picks up 12 is a first down without the penalty on the previous play.
I do like how they keep battling though… I’ve seen too many Beavs teams punk out. This team at least has GA fight
A 3rd down pass play that is short of the sticks. Who does that sound like?
We’re giving away too many good opportunities here. Utah could have one good drive and put this away.
it’s not like he was the ONLY option on the field as a receiver.
Minny up by 2 on harbag
Baldwin calls are atrocious. Run a fly sweep, a bootleg, a slant… Come on man.
Nall could get 3 yards. C’mon, what the eff are they thinking up in the box? The bomb on 2nd and then throw short of the sticks.
Offense is feeling a little stagnant in the second half… lots of easy/repeat plays. Hopefully they come up with something new to get us some yardage.
That video was pretty bad for Mageo lol
Open field tackling is atrocious
God dammit, blown 1v1 tackle again. Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That Ortiz whiff on Wilson for the long 3rd down conversion was atrocious.
I still like Ricky, how long has he played d1 lb? He did need to breakdown though. I still can’t believe Wilson makes as many plays as he does, that’s the most awkward looking dude running the ball.
Nice whiff there by Ortiz. Channeled his inner Pankey
I’d forgotten that name. Thanks a lot. NOT!!!
Channeled Nolan Lewis but Pankey works as well.
Pritchard and Willis are playing well. Peko and Grimble too.
Strong has made a couple decent plays as well, disappointed in both Ortiz and Mageo…tip ‘o the cap to angry.
That was an option? I thought they were just centering for the FG…
The offense plays better with NM and the defense is playing better. A correlation perhaps?
Probably both removing the cancer (collins) and that they aren’t out there the entire game.
Thing is, the offense is flowing better, but they aren’t scoring points…
I’m impressed with how well NM is playing considering this is his first whole game.
Yep.
Then they don’t know anything, because nobody anonymous knows shit like that and doesn’t share it.
These guys don’t how to present a story. One guy says he’s heard “rumors” from reliable people. WTF!? I wouldn’t be surprised at the validity but c’mon.
No special teams catastrophes in the last 2-3 games, right? Maybe we sorted that out. Notice Bolden and Guyton as the return men.
Ryan Nall – 0 carries.
It’s like he and Storm are rotating.
I mean, might as well give him a few touches. Not like Storm has been effective. To be fair, Utah’s defense is really, really good.
Hey Cokey, Nall has power for inside runs
I was just going to say that.
That is inexcusable
How can you expect to get any kind of rhythm when you do that?
Can’t, which is why it’s so mish mash
Ryan Nall – 0 carries – – – Baldwin – 18 cokes.
Six points… Zero brain cells
Great slant throw and a good catch! Not behind and below today.
…I spoke to soon. Still been a good game from Mitchell.
Also, the ref crew has been very good. No blown calls or egregious misses.
It’s his first complete game so, fwiw, I’m very happy with how he’s playing.
Until the throw to Guyton… He could have caught it though. It seems like we have athletic talent at receiver but upstairs I’m not so sure…
Didn’t Guyton get called for that, twice, last week?
Guyton’s was more egregious, but yes, that was a PI they blew. Leads straight to a TD.
2 nd HR for the C man
Conforto 2 HR’s…….wow!
Frustrating game. I thought we’d get blown out but we could have won. It’s over.
Good job D.
That’s probably the end of the game right there.
Can’t decide if this or the Colorado game is the most frustrating game of the season so far.
Colorado because we had 2 game winning drives and choked both.
This game, we played hard and showed a lot of progress. Just not good enough to beat a top20 team yet.
Conforto 2hrs
Baldwin is not a great OC.
It’s funny how badly you guys will be eating your words when they get a QB and system players. A year from now everyone will love Baldwin. Book it.
I hope you’re right but wtf down at the goal line? Every time they get close they run that misdirection play. Run your 240 lb back off tackle or up the gut!
Agreed
Sure hope so. I don’t see it.
Imagine that a catch and run
SO CLOSE!!!!
Illamin down to the 1. So close! 74 yard pass.
Yep, Bolden.
BOLDEN!!!!! how do you drop that
Fuck you Vick, again
Redeemed next pay
Fucking play calling………..
Jesus h boldon
Why this finesse crap? Hand it to Nall
Everyone watching the game is thinking the same thing. I’m not high on Cokehead.
Cokey better give it to Nall!
FUCKING BOLDEN!!!
Straight out of his fucking hands. GOD DAMMIT BOLDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just run Nall up the middle. Why get cute down there.
Bolden with another lay up miss.
Just run Nall into the end zone, dangit.
Also, please stop giving Bolden opportunities to mess things up.
I don’t understand what happened to Bolden. He was always mediocre, but never this awful.
He redeems himself, but man, so many drops from him
I heard Riley’s running into problems with Bolievers… Maybe Bolden’s a Riliever
Fuck you Vick, I still hate you
Dat spiral. You’re welcome, shitty shitty Bolden.
Fuck this wildcat shit
Bolden is basically what Riley would be as a player.
No see, Bolden had two chances and actually cashed the second one in
HAVE ANOTHER COKE DB…….
Could be worse. He could be drinking 18 shots of Patron tequila per day. How’d that work out Sark?
That 2pt. made no sense. That is such a terribly designed play.
I have to agree
Really bad idea
And then the awful 2 point conversion play. Bolden in the Wildcat? What’s wrong with Nall up the middle?
According to ESPN NALL is still without a carry.
WTF?????? Is he hurt?
Cokey Baldwin Disease
No carries, but I know he had at least a catch.
I still contend this team is going to break thru and upset someone in these last few games.
I think so too b/c the pac 12 is pretty horrible this year. utah is very overrated. ucla stinks. cal stinks.
any of them can put up 50 on a given day, but overall they’re all mediocre and bad by historical standards
Actually I feel like the conference is regressing to the mean. USC being good, plus one or two others being pretty good. The others mediocre to bad.
Ok, WTF WAS THAT “COVERAGE” Williams? Just stared at his chest and wrapped him up. Wow.
Williams is like a 7th string CB
Kendall Hill getting burned again. He’s the Bolden of the DB’s.
Vick Hill jr
Nall’s gotta be hurt. I don’t need to see Woods anymore – sorry.
3 starting OL out. Did anyone even notice?
Peko with the miracle grab/trip. He’s been a stud for 2 games now.
This team feels so close to a major turn for the better.
Mitchell’s gotta complete some balls downfield here.
Throw was JUST a tiny bit off, but a nice scramble on 2nd down to save the drive. maybe.
Good thing it was knocked down. Would’ve been a loss.
Have you noticed all those jump passes get batted down. Mitchell throws the ball downward.
In Vill’s hands, and just doesn’t catch it. bleh.
Constantly throwing short of the sticks reminds me of Opie. Saved by a PI.
Nice rollout and throw to the open receiver.
I know there’s only 1:44 left, but I wish the offense would run at least once.
LOVE that they’re showing Conforto’s awesome stats. Best ad for OSU sports all night.
Baldwin seems over his head
I think it’s more about execution. Not saying Baldwin is an offensive genius but I think he’s competent.
I don’t know what to make of Baldwin. His past teams put up huge numbers.
BUT, like 5 play calls tonight made zero sense. Inexcusable at much lower levels of the game, so how is he doing it here? I think he tries to get too finesse and cute as well.
Do you really think Jiim Maclwain was not calling plays?
Baldwin said he would continue to call plays at the bowl game.
Sounds like he called plays last year.
http://www.denverpost.com/colleges/ci_27066388/jim-mcelwain-verge-being-named-florida-head-coach
Impossible for me to understand not using Nall, many situations where it seemed he could have helped move the sticks.
Yes, too cutesy. GA wants to run power football, let’s see it
Beavs logo behind conforto with no outline, maybe the media gets it too
Not having a QB sucks :(
No chance for the receivers…
Despite the bad night, I feel good about OSU’s chances of upsetting UCLA next week.
Not gonna happen unless NM improves 1000%. The kid isn’t a Pac 12 QB. Better chance than StCH but just don’t see it.
Out of your mind. RS Freshman playing his 2nd game. Come on.
UCLA’s defense isn’t nearly as good as Utah, and they also have a freshman quarterback under center (although he’s better than any of ours). Add that to being at home, and I think I’ll be storming the field Saturday.
Too much Wacky Tobacky guys. Rosen is a freshman but will torch our secondary. The play calling hasn’t helped but our offense is turabal…
I believe Scott and Decoud will be back next week, not sayin’ they can’t be torched but less likely than the kids out there tonight. Hopefully DB reconsiders and uses Nall vs UCLA.
You’d much rather underthrow the 6’5″ and give him a chance to come back to it. Those last two drives were a great sign though.
Mitchell is a backup, too. Probably could be a pretty good one. Didn’t do anything tonight to lose the job the rest of this year, but he’s a backup at this level.
No clue what MM is yet, but Collins and Mitchell are backups.
Absolutely agree. Back ups at best. Need GA to get a QB. Not sure about Moran.
He’s a tweener, which makes him a good backup, not so good a starter.
If he’s a tweener, StHC is a no way ever – er
I covered that in December. He should be 3rd string on this team and a WR next year, if he’s still on the team.
I also think GA needs to recruit a big time QB talent, and he isn’t, so I don’t get that…
Nice effort by NM but let’s be real. He and StCH aren’t the answers for the next 3-4 years. He’s maybe a Katz lite. And Ryan could at least sling it.
It looked like villimin gave up on his route. Or am I seeing things?
He might have. No excuses but the receivers look frustrated by their body language. Brennen preaches that but has got work to do.
another fade on that 4th down play. gack,
ZERO carries for Nall, unfucking believable
Agree, someone has got to get an answer to why no Nall carries. The question is obvious.
Hurt?
He played the whole game though, but never was in the backfield.
decoy
Psst, Cokey, give Nall the Freakin ball, forget Vicky exists
Considering many here thought Beavs would be crushed I’d say the loss sucks but they actually looked competent and competitive at times
Agree…almost feels like Whittingham went easy on us his buddy
Not buying that. He kept running Wilson, doesn’t happen unless Kyle is concerned about the outcome. Until very late he really didn’t have much chance to ease up on his buddy.
Oh, and fuck the Royals
What happened to Familia?
Worth repeating….no turnovers.
And, NM sacked only once!
We all are asking that question
Cokey forgot Nall was on the roster but he was awesome at csu so no worries
Wow, so zero carries. Yeah, hopefully the answer comes out at the presser.
So true.
I’m glad some other people here are looking at this game more positively. I feel the same way, lots of steps forward tonight.
Harbaugh about to explode on espn
And the gophers lost it on the last play, great effort thou.
Conforto at bat
Once again, positional reviews for the game:
Wow. Minnesota goes for the win on the final play from the 1/2 yard line and the qb sneak fails. Mich wins 29-26. Tough loss beavergopher
That was the type of game even in defeat all of us were clamouring for. Team played hard and competed. A couple of big plays go our way and we are right there.. Well done mostly across the board
I expected a total blowout.
Very respectable loss on the road to a ranked team. They were in it the whole game (except 1st quarter).
Back to the drawing board for you guys. Nice game JV!
You just got run to the wire by the JV, then you show up and brag? You should be embarrassed, but since your just a duck troll, that comes with bandwagon hopping. By the way you never responded about getting out recruited in your own state, if you really are a ute fan?
What happened to sack lake city? I thought they were supposed to sack us all night long?
it’s what they’re all licking tonight in victory celebrations. It is Utah afterall
They don’t bob for apples in utah. Just greasy, sweaty nuts.
speaking of JV, lose the sophomoric shtick you cousin fucking duck troll. What will it be this next week? Bruins ruin Beavs? You’re as predictable as most of the bandwagon duck crowd
62-40, see you guys in soon
Gina quotes Andersen regarding StHC: “It wasn’t best for him to be able to make the trip and, quite frankly, stand on the sidelines.”
Postgame, Andersen pretty satisfied with NM’s poise and management of the O. Specifically mentioned NM moving guys around when they weren’t correctly lined up.
I’d be totally happy with a power running team with a game manager at qb.
like Wisconsin last year; Michigan this year
Gina on why no nall
tweeted at 8:11 PM on Sat, Oct 31, 2015:
Gary Andersen on why Ryan Nall did not get a carry tonight. https://t.co/SLdlU5LgIP

Anybody see the end of the duke-Miami game? On espn website can’t figure out how to link it.
yep. Duke got the screwgie. Inept replay and officiating at it’s finest
Yup just saw the replay on tv, that dude was down. Major fuck up by the replay booth.
At angry@angry, looks like we were BOTH wrong and Mitchell can run.
Time to move pass the Woods and Collins love fest ….
Ya woods just runs scared
Wzzzu giving tree all they can handle
Wazzu got robbed
