Thats what I just said. He had a receiving TD and INT last year. Would’ve been a TD, the lead, and huge momentum. This is a problem with Nolan a lot. A real killer.
I laughed when I read the quote about “this defense is good and we think it could be great,” but they look pretty good right now. Williams is helping out by looking like a GA QB.
I missed the first series or two, but it feels like a deep shot is coming. Play calling so far has been all high percentage stuff and SC is moving closer and closer in the box.
Here’s where the mental part comes in that many in here brought up: How does USC and its free agents respond if things don’t go their way?
I expect Lincoln Riley to respond well. Bray and the Beaver run game needs to respond. Time to pump up the Oline even more. Jam is running hard, more carries for him.
I still think those USC DBs, desperate for another INT, would bite on a double move and pump fake.
Very even game so far. The Trojans missed FG was sort of like a turnover. Nolan can’t make another poor decision. Beavers could really show things have changed if they can march down and get some points to start the second half.
I feel like our offense isn’t feeling urgency since our d is getting stops. They should be up like 17-3. Can’t count on our d holding them to another 3 the 2nd half.
I had Velling as 1 of only 2 four-star recruits. I forgot how good he is.
Jack Velling – Potential game-changing TE. Fluid runner with soft hands. Yale offer suggests high intelligence, so he should move up the depth chart fast.
It’s not over yet. Beavs still have a great shot at this. JS has basically called it like an old school NFL game. 4th may open it up a bit.
Looking for a big play from somebody soon.
Man It sucks when the line misses assignments. Then your QB compounds it by not throwing the ball away. Terrible decision but our line didn’t help at all there.
Time for the defense to step up as they’ve done all game! We are ahead, good teams overcome mistakes and step up when needed.
Crucial Penalties, 2 turnovers, near miss fumble recovery, missed field goal, numerous missed sacks but a defensive stand and a score still gets a win.
Ranking don’t matter; what the team and coaches learned tonight is what is important. Bray’s D has gotta feel like there is no O they can’t handle, now let’s see how the O (players and coaches) responds.
Over/under of 70.5……..haha
They only matter from a perception point. If you said any other team in the nation was 3-1, and lost by 3 to the #7 team in the nation, they’d likely be ranked. Unfortunately, this will become “We knew the beavers weren’t real at 3-0.” When it was the Trojans that were exposed.
Beavers defense was phenomenal but once again, Nolan is who everyone thought he was. He gave this one away. His inconsistencies make it basically impossible to win big with him unless the running game is just bashing opponents game game. I’ve seen more than enough of him. This should have been a win but bad QB play waster a great defensive performance
Dude I don’t let that happen especially when they’re bailing after this. I would kick them in the nutz and not feel bad. That’s like dragging ur balls on my carpet just to make me feel bad.
Some kid jumped out of the stands and charged them got tackled for his trouble and carted off by bcso…fans started chanting free number 1 …dude was wearing a #1 jersey
Nolan was 7/9 4o start the game. Ends at 17/29 with 4 picks. 0 td’s. Brutal game. Beavs should’ve won and after that heartbreaker, has to face Utah. What’s he gonna do in Utah vs a much better defense?
The elusive magical season continues. Now it’s all consolation prizes.
I think the move to win that game was to try Gulbranson or maybe Gebbia if he’s healthy. Nolan was throwing ugly balls, off his back foot, and really was not in control of that game on offense. It was obvious. Try someone else after the 2nd INT. You can’t have a QB playing like that when the rest of your team is clicking. It’s not fair to them for one…
I strongly disagree… wouldn’t have been close if we did that. No way either of those guys get in rhythm… what hurt us the most was bad decisions and not having a kicker. The kicker is probably the biggest factor.
Yes, but forward progress is where they would spot the ball if it eventually was blown dead. They give some time for the ball carrier to spin and break loose, etc.
Three of the four interceptions were just awful decisions. Someone has to be open on a check-down if the receiver you’re throwing to is triple teamed! Hell, on that last drive, I would have tried to spring Jam on a run. There was plenty of time.
Hayes is a lost cause also. Maybe he’s injured, but he has the leg distance, just a head case with accuracy. Such a bitter day, with the Quacks and their huge comeback.
Been a long time since we had a decent kicker. Lost quite a few games do to bad fg accuracy. 4 years of choukar…had a lifetime avg below 50%. Now Hayes. These have been issues for 5 years with Smith that havent been addressed. Wish we would use a scholly on a kicker. We’re seeing what taking walk-ons for kickers leads to.
Hmm, perhaps from a specific range. Maybe it was anything over 30yds? Can’t remember exactly, and perhaps I’m just wrong but we’re talking semantics here. 27/46 is worse than “not great”, it’s awful. Lol. Bigger issue is what I presented, we’ve had terrible kickers for at least the last 7+ years. It hasn’t been a priority to fix and has bitten us in the ass on multiple occasions.
On the final drive he was itching to throw a pick. Tipped pass looked like a potential pick if it wasn’t tipped, next pass he over threw an easy short throw and the last throw had zero shot. There isn’t much a coaching staff can do with a QB who is inaccurate and making terrible decisions other than bench him. Reminded me of the UW game last year where the coaching staff was hoping to win despite him and they almost did it
Not trying to be petty but not a single complimentary comment from Lincoln Riley about his opponent says a lot. I was a fan of his before but feel like Karma will not be good to him.
Bray schooled Riley and he should be humble enough to know it, but he’s probably not. Beaver D had a good shot at a couple of picks and the fumble was just dumb luck for USC. It’s really a statistical fluke that they have zero turnovers through four games. Their day will come.
Riley and Dye both gave our crowd and defense a lot of praise in the post game presser. Not sure where this is coming from. Riley is an elite coach but not a pompous one at all. He definitely respected us as an opponent.
Nolan is not going to improve beyond what he is. Too bad because he is surrounded by a team that could get to New Years Day Bowl with gd to great consistency at qb position.
He just doesn’t ever look comfortable even with time to survey. Too sad for the whole team.
Bray has proven himself in 7 games as the best DC at OSU since DE era.
Hence replace him. I’ve been a moderate fan of Nolan’s but with a short leash. That was some of the worst QB play I’ve ever seen from a Beaver. Might be worse than Seth and Garretson.
“Might be worse than Seth and Garretson.” You’re still not immune to hyperbole. You said Seth would “get somebody killed.” Empirically, record wise, Nolan is better than them.
Omg everyone gets so emotional. He was decent. U really think someone gives this team that could be special givea us a better chance than nolan? U know better than 2 former ex QBs. And that know what they know what they want? Nolan had a shit game but has played great mostly. I wasn’t sold last year but I think he’s our best option this year.
He’s played great vs lower tier teams mostly. Outside of a few games like USC and Utah last year, he’s been pretty bad. UW and WSU was like a combined 15 completions and 3 picks. Against P12 competition he’s been avg at best. Shines in non-conferece stuff though.
He is our best option. Ben will have the same problem of forcing the ball into coverage, and Gebbia doesn’t have the arm to push the ball down the field.
I do blame Nolan for not tucking the ball and running on several occasions as well as forcing throws, but the passing attack felt a bit predictable and too slow developing.
It’s not all about the arm, it’s the decision-making that did Nolan in tonight. Maybe you can give him a pass on the long ball interception, but the other three were just terrible. He either didn’t see the coverage or was just hoping for something.
“USC – L (not in coaching disarray this season, loaded with talented free agents who’ve had 3 games to warm up, and a coach who can apparently lead. Beavs lose a close one. Damn.)”
I hope this doesn’t come true:
@Utah – L (tough crowd environment, physical, Utah coming home after a relaxing beat down of Sun Devils in Tempe, and Beavers may have hangover from “coulda won” the week before);
If the Beavers can recognize their significant potential, and keep their confidence, the COULD win in Utah. Will be tough after tonight.
Mostly agree, but Bray won’t let it be tough on the D; it’ll take more disappointment than this game for the D to have so much doubt in the O that they slack off.
It’s not like Gebbia was a bad QB, he beat out Nolan originally for some reason and beat the Ducks in 2020. I wouldn’t mind seeing him since he’s won games before unless he’s still injured. They can’t afford another game like this from Nolan.
Nolan was exposed tonight by the best secondary we will face all year and tried to be the hero too many times. Didn’t like the play calling either though.
However, the blatant fucking holding that wasn’t called was absolute bullshit. The second to last pick that was thrown the SC DB was ripping on our guys jersey and the flag should have been thrown there too.
Impressed by the D. Love the blitzes and not backing down to their offense. Could have snuck out with a win had we had a lucky play go our way like that pick that bounced off of two dudes.
I was happy that the SC whining for PI didn’t really get to the refs but holy fuck they were still shit not calling obvious penalties right in front of them.
Confident going into Utah after that and the rest of the year as long as we make Hayes the new water boy and chain Atticus to Serna for a week to help him prepare mentally to be the starter. Don’t play a kid who’s nursing an injury like wtf.
However, the blatant fucking holding that wasn’t called was absolute bullshit. The second to last pick that was thrown the SC DB was ripping on our guys jersey and the flag should have been thrown there too.”
Totally agree. There was another time when Harrison was going to break free deep and the USC DB knew it and grabbed his jersey and it was so obvious on replay.
If the defense keeps showing up, we’d be good with just about every other school’s qb. Just not Squints though. He needs to show up consistently vs decent competition.
7-3 at halftime. I knew we were losing this game once we didn’t reach 14 or more points by halftime. Been that way since start of 2021. Also, the no call defensive holding by USC on Lindsey was obviously part of the fix for USC.
Also spotting the ball a full yard short where the booth overturned. Next week is a loss as well with the fix being in because we’re on the Pac-12 Network versus a ranked team. Still have to over come and play beyond the refs, but sucks we play against the opponent and the refs all in the same game.
Hypothetically, but serious question: if a running back gets hit at the 50 yard line but he goes flying and forward progress doesn’t stop until two more yards down field when his elbow touches, is he down at the 50 or the 48?
The spots were terrible all night, both for the O & D. The non-calls on play clock violations were BS. Really felt like the Beavs had two opponents tonight. I think the game was played quick to keep scheduled programming…
For real. The holding was what stood out but when the play clock hits zero and Caleb is still calling for the snap that is delay of fucking game. Unless the play clock on the field isn’t totally in sync with the play clock on the broadcast but I’ve never seen it. We had one soon after that was whistled right as it hit zero.
This would never happen but it would be nice for a coach to be able to contest a no call once or twice a game. Similar to a challenge. Just have a dude upstairs like we probably already do monitoring the game for any penalties that aren’t called and allow it to be contested. If successful it gets called and if you lose then you lose a timeout or loss of down or something. There’s times (not tonight) where the ref legitimately has his vision blocked and missed a face mask or something so it’d be useful then too.
Are the chains supposed to be set before the ball is snapped too? There was at least one SC hurry-up where they snapped the ball before the chains were set.
Depends upon. The whistle at the stoppage of play. Is is before he flies forward, during or after? If before or during, usually they spot at stopped progress. After they should spot where ball is on in relation to downed by contact.
They acted like Stone Cold came by practice to teach the oline some wrestling moves. One replay was a straight up tackle in full view of the ref. I don’t think the refs are paid off like that NBA ref who was caught but I do think the brand/influence/perceived prestige of the other team subconsciously plays a part in the bias of the officials.
Perhaps we can get a rematch with USC for the conference championship, beat Utah, UW, WSU, UO feels like a tall order but I don’t think the Beavs are overmatched by any of those teams.
Agreed. They are the most talented and well coached team that we will play all year and we still almost beat them. If we beat Utah and don’t get cocky we could win out barring another appearance by the riverboat gambler or some additional special teams fuckery.
Next week Utah will get the USC treatment. Why do you think these games are on the Pac-12 Network? Because ESPN. and FOX know we have a legit top 10 team, but want USC and others to do well for realignment purposes. This game solidified that sentiment for me.
Well, everyone played well enough to win except Nolan. Defense was pretty damn good. Best game they have played in 10 years probably. They just about shut down a gaggle of 5 star players. Not that that means a whole lot. But the talent gap is there and they played to it. I didn’t think they would win (I figured 7 point lose hence my pick) they out played my expectations
Yeah, that’s exactly what I came away with. The Beavers were right there talent-wise. Turnovers decided the game like they usually do with two closely matched teams.
Everyone played well except Nolan and Harrison costed us 10 pts. Dropped a pass that would have put us in the red zone with 1st and 10 and ended up with 0 on that drive. Had the holding call that we didn’t need that would have put us inside the 5 with 1st and goal.
We let this one slip which is most dissapointing. Beavs should have won 24-10 ish. Hopefully we can steal a dub in Utah which will put us where we should as everyone would be happy splitting usc/Utah.
Fisher-Morris had the chance to put down the O in the interview with Callan (when he was asked if he was proud of the D); instead he said he is proud of everyone on the team. That’s a winning attitude.
I’m always bothered by the post-game win bias, where the winner of the game has all the positives highlighted when in reality it was just a few plays that got them the win. Flip those few plays the other way and we hear about how the other team really dominated.
If you think of Helton’s buyout, Riley’s contract, plus USC’s payment to Oklahoma, AND all of the recruits that came to USC for NIL deals, USC payed a metric shit ton for a 3 point victory.
AND next years’ OSU recruiting class is going to be better, damn sure USC doesn’t want to play OSU anymore.
Just disappointed OSU didn’t win in what might be USC’s last game in corvallis.
At least the house is paying out big time tonight. Congrats to everyone who took the Beavers. Anyway to find out how much the betting parlors lost on that game?
Learned tyree reed will be out again this year. Alway was told oregon football has four convicted rapists on their team. Can anyone confirm? Not sure how they flies but football over anything I guess. Maybe conzano will dig that up.
Was at a party and didnt end up watching any of the game tonight. Is it worth tracking down a replay?
Had a problem with my 70″ ultra HD LED mega panel and both of my Ipads failed me too. Cut cable a few weeks ago and it bit me in the ass. Please lord, deliver a 90″ display with highspeed internet unto me. I’m more than deserving
It’s not just oregon state that usc has affected with turnovers. That’s their defense with their length and really good dbs. Curious how Nolan bounces back next week.
Pretty classless seeing some of their players celebrating by sliding on center field long after the game was over. Maybe the Beavs did that there last year. You’d thought they were the team pulling the upset.
I’m coming out of this more positive than I thought. A 3 point loss to the #7 ranked team (whether they deserve that or not is debatable) is not season ending and it shouldn’t be treated like it is. Nolan was a huge disappointment but it’s also possible this USC defense is just a little better than maybe people give it credit for. They made Tanner McKee and Jake Haener uncomfortable too and forced them into mistakes and those are two QBs I know for a fact are better than Nolan is.
A lot of the conversation is going to be about how USC is overrated. I actually tend to believe that we just saw an amazing college football game between two really good teams. I think it’s going to look that way even more so as the season goes on. USC will keep winning and I think the Beavs will too. Starting in Salt Lake City next week.
Nolan is the best shot we have at QB right now. One game against the best team we’ve played all year and people want to bench him? For who exactly? He did hold us back tonight but we have no reason to bench him. That would cause unnecessary QB drama that our locker room does not need. Legit a distraction and media talking point in the worst way.
Remember bitching for Canfield to play only for us to then bitch for Moevao to play and then repeat that over and over again?
Chance has the most experience and we need him to step up and continue to be the leader that he is. If anything we need Lindgren to do some fucking introspection into what to call on 3rd and medium and how to close out the game. Why are we running the ball on 3rd and 5 or more? Those slow developing PA crossing routes worked against lower tier secondary’s but not tonight. Tonight it seemed like we just kept rolling the dice for a huge play downfield when we just need to move the chains and have manageable 3rd downs.
Grass is always greener until you realize that the other side houses an injury prone perennial clipboard wielder and a redshirt freshman who’s thrown one whole TD pass in garbage time to two defenders that should have picked it. We would be throwing away the season. I trust 9’ers evaluation of who should start at QB.
I will say the reviewers didn’t help him much all night. Little separation from the dbs. Hurts then when you have penalties and a missed field when you had a chance to score a TD. Many to blame.
“Why are we running the ball on 3rd and 5 or more?”
Perhaps because they’re willing to go for it on fourth downs? Not saying I agree with it, but that may be their reasoning, particularly given Colletto’s wildcat success rate on short yardage downs.
The defense played well. – especially the secondary. More than one catch by a tight end would have helped. You have to throw deep to keep the defense honest, but Nolan’s deep throws weren’t well placed – our receivers aren’t going to win a jump ball with an SC DB – also didn’t help how many throws were behnnd the receiver.
I had Hayes marked as a lone weak position in the preseason. I’ve seen enough. Have to make a change there. Give Nolan a quarter – a half if you want to be generous – to reestablish himself. If not make that change, too. He’s not good enough nor has he performed well enough to deserve a longer leash.
For once it appears that the defense is not going to be the reason we don’t take the next step to hit that 8+ win mark. Granted, its early and a lot of games left but also some of the teams that might not have seemed strong (UW and WSU) appear to be good to very good. I think what concerns me the most are things that can’t be fixed. Nolan decision making is pretty bad and has been since day 1. Going into his 3rd year and if it’s still an issue, which it is, not sure there’s progress to be made. At least 4 of his picks have been a result of terrible decisions. Boise state. Triple coverage last night. Just awful.
WR. Harrison is a head scratcher. I think he and Gould are the most electric with the ball, problem is, he has stones for hands and that seems to crop up in big moments. TD drops. 1st down conversions. Pivotal points in a game. He looked great vs Montana State when we were blowing them out. Had the great play vs Fresno but that was an easy screen pass where he did all the work with his legs. Not sure if that can be fixed as they’ve been working on that since week 1. You’d assume as a WR they can catch the ball so it leans towards being a mental issue. Nerves? Can’t handle the big moment? Not sure but clearly there’s a difference when we need the play vs when we have the comfortable lead.
Kicking game has been ignored and not a priority for this program and has costed some games for sure and likely will cost more, not only this year but in years to come if there’s no emphasis to get talent there.
Seriously. Oregon has ignored their kicking game for ages, too. Do stats say kickers don’t matter or something? I don’t understand this. Shortage of kickers nationally?
There are a lot of factors in that loss. Nolan certainly didn’t win it for us, but he didn’t lose it for us either. Penalties in critical situations killed easy opportunities to win that game DESPITE 4 interceptions by Nolan. The defense was incredible and deserve the bulk of the credit for keeping that game winnable the whole time. And the offense went toe to toe against their defense. But isn’t USC’s defense pretty good too?? So should we be giving them their credit rather than saying our QB sucked? Because the same could be said about Caleb Williams last night, but maybe that’s because our defense is pretty good. I doubt Riley is going to bench Williams after one bad performance against a good defense.
I don’t think their defense is good, or at least most everyone I’ve heard says it’s the weak spot. I believe it’s largely the same squad as last year and they definitely weren’t good. The offense got the xfer playmakers. I’d also say that Williams has had great games the vast majority of his career and bad games are the anomaly. Same can’t be said for Nolan. Williams also made plenty of plays with his legs and also made the throws down the stretch when it mattered. I don’t think the comparison really makes sense in this case. Our QB did suck. Lol. 17/29 and 4 picks! 0 TDs! 3 of those interceptions were totally on him. Throwing into triple coverage. Take the sack for fuck’s sake. Consistently makes poor decisions throughout his career. So, yeah, if this was 1 bad game out of 15 good games then chalk it up to an off night or an incredible USC defense but this was another bad game amongst 6 or 7 bad games.
Beaver Believers-You gave us a great game hats off to you But better athletes always find a way as Caleb Willams found Jordan TD then dagger in the heart interception, 17-14 SC ??
Williams, who had been at something like 70-75% completion rate, was 16 of 36, 44%, for 180 yards. He did move well at times and avoid sacks.
USC apparently had nine 3rd downs coming into this game, had 18 last night, and punted four times to the Beavers three.
Time of possession: USC 30:15, OSU 29:45.
That defense was a joy to watch.
Many plays left on the field though and obviously some terrible INTs.
Smith has shown the ability to move on from someone if the continued growth isn’t there (Timmy Tisebar, and not sure Mikalaya Tongue is going to be playing WR in games anytime soon). Will he move on from Nolan to Gulbranson? From Harrison to someone else?
If Gulbranson starts @ Utah (which I think will be unlikely), Smith ought to make it a game time announcement.
Did we forget last year? It’s not like this was the 1st bad game of his career. He’s played really well vs mid to lower tier teams and looked great thru 3 games this year (excluding the Boise State interception) but he’s been bad nearly as often as he’s been good.
Not enough focus on the fact forward progress was stopped and Williams was being pushed back when his o line pushed him forward. This is Not a judgement call and unfortunately not reviewable. We had our chances to win either way but the right call here might have sealed the deal. Luck o da Beavs!
In a game that close, nearly every play seemed meaningful which made it so entertaining to watch. Whether it was Williams’ 4th down run you describe, Harrison’s and Velling’s miscues, INTs…the “highlights” are nearly the whole game film in my opinion because every possession and down seemed meaningful.
There’s something about OSU’s use of its WRs that seems a bit off to me. In terms of size and speed, they appear fairly interchangeable. Maybe so interchangeable there’s no pecking order and consistent “go to” player? The route calls seem lacking at times. I know there are others here who can better articulate it.
And maybe Harrison needs to start sitting until and unless there’s garbage time to improve his hands and/or focus. It could be he’s a great practice player? I like the guy, but the drops are bizarre at this stage of his career.
First bitches!!
Number one in your heart and.number two in your crapper.
I’m taking off here in a bit and will have to dvr and watch the game late tonight. Hold the fort down degenerates.
Go Beavs! Break the Trojans!
Is there a YouTube stream? Can’t get PAC12 network…
Probably. They don’t go up until game time. Make sure to get a 78” tv, too.
Beavs will lose unless you’re watching on a 78” TV
Crap mine’s 82”
How do you walk??
We can only hope… Angry and NB’s in game conspiracy theories become way more believable when streaming the game on a phone.
Streameast.xyz
Ashley Adamson on the media crew… the Jackhammer will be playing inspired
He’s on that!!
I’ll go 34-31 Beavs! Plus 1 in the turnover category.
10th!!!!
Ashley says, “…up close and personal”………she can’t get the Hammer off of her mind.
She’s interested in contact lol
Not calling any illegal touching penalties??
59-38 BEAVS ALL NIGHT! Final matchup and we once again spring a trap
Pre-game energy looks good. Anyone at the game?
Fuck this guy with yogi is a moron! Needs to be fired.
Let’s get a stop off the top!
Well that wasn’t it…
Oh come on… way to take your crowd out of it.
Big play here. Get the momentum!
Fuck ya! That bit them in the ass!
Creating confusion for usc. Nice
Need to drive down and score here.
4 down territory?
Thats as good as a takaway.
84. Musgrave gone coming into play.
Nolan .isses the TD to Colletto
Fuckin wide open and now a punt. Huge blown opportunity.
Can Colletto catch? Was wide open on that earlier play.
Thats what I just said. He had a receiving TD and INT last year. Would’ve been a TD, the lead, and huge momentum. This is a problem with Nolan a lot. A real killer.
But can he catch? I know he had one catch. Maybe that was luck. Anyone know if he has good hands (TWSS?)
There’s your answer
Does that play answer your question?
Of course he can.
Ha!
Haha. Can Colletto get to Mars before Musk?
Down 2 timeouts already tho. Thats good!
This Dye stuff isn’t a neat deal.
There’s our boy #28. So good.
We’re getting pressure which is nice. Just need to stop the 10 yard scrambles.
Fresno got a lot of pressure on Williams with three. Coverage sacks/hurries could be a big difference.
Nice to know the Beavs aren’t the only team with questions at kicker.
YES, Colletto CAN catch!
Haha, glad they tried that again. Now we know.
Scratch ticket I don’t like it………..but I’ll take it
I love Gould. He’s a 5-star talent.
4yds to make, seems like the wrong decision but worked out.
Oregon Live had a good article up on him this week – https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2022/09/oregon-states-anthony-gould-raised-by-an-army-mother-and-toughened-by-wrestling-thrives-at-receiver.html
0-0 after 1. As I predicted, this would be one of those good old fashioned defensive slug fests. Reminds me of Bears-Giants back in the 80s.
Hope so, I bet the under.
They don’t call him the Jack of all trades because he can’t catch
Crowd is electric… 1st qtr 0-0
#LFG
The Jack of all Jack hammers. List of things he does.
1. Rushing
2. Catching
3. Tackling
4. Milfs
5. Interceptions.
6. Kicking?
Getting to Mars before Elon Musk?
Nope. They need to let him kick a field goal at this point. What’s the chances he can’t do it? I’m thinking almost zero.
Blocking should definitely be on your list after that last TD.
Yeah I forgot.
He already said he can’t kick for shit.
I think he said that because if they needed him to kick he would never get off the field.
The beavs are getting really physical. I like it a lot.
USC defenders looked tired at the end of that drive, and its early.
Great block Colletto.
Rolled that guy…
Nice drive and best yet we made the extra point.
Like that Fenwick carried #18 into the end zone…
Jack doing it all…
That drive had everything. Looking good so far
Fuck usc can’t handle a little adversity. Already out of time outs.
Crowd is electric. #LFG
Nice call bray, so close to a sack.
AND the cheerleaders do look better…
That missed sack hurts. Could’ve been huge psychologically. Their out of timeouts already tho.
Beavers are no longer weak-minded enough to let that hang around and keep them down.
USC is feeling pressure already. They’ve enjoyed all of the press clippings.
Beavs need to keep sound and disciplined.
The sideline ref is in the take. Short spotting Beavs and giving USC a first. He was obviously short.
Agreed but nowadays everyone seems to get it when its close and not the goal line.
I noticed he is short spotting on Beavs run too. I am skeptical that is random
That was kind of a weird USC spot, but it is possible Dye got it when he reached out. Definitely warranted a replay review.
Telecasters confirm a spy on Williams. Stover, not Fischer.
It changes. Which it should to confuse him. Depends on personell and formations, play calls.
Bray will mix it up. It won’t always be the same guy from the same position.
This would explain later why they ran several fakes where Williams pretended to carry, but had handed off to 26.
Bray is calling a great game so far! So fun to watch!
We’re getting into Williams head. They haven’t seen any of this on film, credit to bray.
I laughed when I read the quote about “this defense is good and we think it could be great,” but they look pretty good right now. Williams is helping out by looking like a GA QB.
This (Williams going something like 3 of 12) is the kind of thing that breaks “all star” teams.
Nolan forcing dumb throws. He got away with Montana state not gonna happen with usc.
USC has scored on every first drive until now. Three drives, no points.
Terrible spot on the Griffin run
Punch them in the mouth! Fuck I love a punishing rushing offense
That IS our Jam!
I hate the 5 wide unless its an obvious not running down.
Game changing stupid throw.
Nolan, in spite of all his seasoning, still has happy feet .
I think OSU needs a double move with a Nolan pump fake.
RUN THE DAMN BALL!!
Nice job to keep them to three after they went hurry up. 4 or 5 drives now, 3 points.
Beavs can run it. Keep doing it.
Serve up some Jam!
5.5 minutes to the half, here is where Beavs gotta be smart, use the clock and take mo into the half
I missed the first series or two, but it feels like a deep shot is coming. Play calling so far has been all high percentage stuff and SC is moving closer and closer in the box.
Won’t be surprised if Bolden is done after that hit on the kick off.
His looked like it snapped pretty good.
I really hope he wasn’t actually going for it there.
Body language looked like drawing to draw them offside to me
Wish we could actually sack the qb. Jesus
150 points in the first half of there first three games. Tonight. 3.
Well done Bray.
Now, what about second half adjustments…
https://twitter.com/angrybeavs/status/1573869916108759044
This is why we at AngryBeavs wanted Mike Riley out. So we could have a higher ceiling and compete in big games. #GoBeavs
Let’s be honest, Williams helped us by sucking hard. I imagine he’s going to look better in the second half.
If we’re being honest, Bray called a good game and made it difficult for Williams.
True, as well. The secondary is playing great, too.
Yes they are. Best secondary in a long while.
Told y’all jam was the man. Just needed a play call or 2 that wasn’t over before it started. The home run back
Martinez looked good, too. Dunno why we’ve been seeing so much Fenwick.
In my humble opinion Fenwick is not our guy. Griffin and Martinez need to be running the rock in the second half.
“Fenwick is not our Jam.”
I think the depth is great actually, but there’s a time to ride the hot hand. Or legs.
I hope Bray hasn’t shown his entire hand yet. Same with Lindgren. Got to keep pounding.
No way Lindgren has. There are plenty of wrinkles left to throw at them.
Haven’t seen a fly sweep yet for sure.
I’d like to see Bolden on the fly or a reverse.
Pretty sure you and BlackBandits are gonna get your wish.
Or Gould or Lindsey or Irish…
We have so much speed at WR it’s ridiculous.
Bolden may be done after the hit on that kickoff.
Maybe Lindsey?
Very even game so far. The Trojans missed FG was sort of like a turnover. Nolan can’t make another poor decision. Beavers could really show things have changed if they can march down and get some points to start the second half.
How we feelin’ about the zebras so far?
Penalties: SC 2 for 10 yds, Beavs 4 for 20
Seem good so far.
All stupid false starts for us. Not the refs fault.
My only issue is the poor spots
Ya that would be my only complaint.
Aliotti has crazy eyes
And about to die on camera.
I feel like our offense isn’t feeling urgency since our d is getting stops. They should be up like 17-3. Can’t count on our d holding them to another 3 the 2nd half.
Need to finish tackles. Nolan needs to br smart with the ball. 2 INTs this year have been head scratching
Missed PI. Need to sell it some.
Well so much for the good refs. PI all day
Fuck nice pivot lindsay
Ma boy, Lindsey!
Harrison has bricks for hands
They’re always big drops too. TDs, 1st down conversions. He seems fine when we’re leading by 30.
Fucking awesome play on 4th
Can’t do it any better.
Dude I’ve been saying it forever more pouch punts. Thats the idea right there.
Dumb play call on 3rd. They were thinking about going for it on 4th and assuming we would get 3-4 yards on 3rd.
Great coverage by Lindsey
Terrible call on 3rd and 6 but nice punt.
Its gonna get loud….
Shoulda been a flag… an olineman moved?
Shit missed a huge opportunity
Fuck fuck fuck.
Not hold? Go fuck yourself!
Checks went through at half time
Damn Williams can move and keep composure.
These players need to go for the QB’s legs. So many high tackles.
Call a timeout. Slow them down.
That was on the refs we should’ve been able to sub freely there. They just didn’t want to admit and let the play stand
Nice coverage.
I still say call a TO right before a snap.
Fuck why can’t we tackle qbs
R they just not calling holding?
OMG tackle his LEGS not his HEAD!
It helps when they’re being held onto by the lineman. Its been blatant threats 3 plays or so. Just what I feared. Refs taking over.
FINALLY.
Finally! Of course it’s #28
#28 with a high tackle, I’ll take it.
Fuckin PAC12 REFs!
FUCK YES.
NOw what? Penalty on Beavers?
when was 7-3 so exciting?
Kick ass Beaver secondary, great calls by Bray.
Now tackle Williams LEGS.
Jam at FB, quick hitter up the middle?
Or Nolan run?
[cristopher walken voice] “Velling. I need you to do something.”
I had Velling as 1 of only 2 four-star recruits. I forgot how good he is.
Jack Velling – Potential game-changing TE. Fluid runner with soft hands. Yale offer suggests high intelligence, so he should move up the depth chart fast.
Aside from his two untimley false starts.
Martinez missed that block
Nolan. So bad vs decent to good competition. Oof
I thought the defense needed to show up to win, and they did. Didn’t count on the offense (nolan) to not play smart.
Not necessarily.
OSU D may have a takeaway in them yet.
Really need to hold to fg or turnover here
Not so fast. This ain’t Ailey coached team
Have Nolan on a designed run.
Double move/pump fake. Ya Boy Lindsey…
You’re one of the worst chix lils.
Running ability? Lol
If you would have said 7-3 after three quarters I would take it. Let’s see how it plays out.
Anyone think Nolan looks like he can lead a comeback?
We need some creativity on offense.
Hope so
No. Any type of rush and he’s wilted back there. 2 picks leads to 10 pts.
Did it against Fresno and other games so IDK what ur talking about.
Looking good so far.
Seriously?!
Now we will find out what this team really is. Its easy to play with a lead, not so easy playing from behind.
Easy to play with a lead, but it’s not easy to step on the throat when you have the lead, that takes experience.
That would feed USC confidence…increased pressure….
Good thing is JS’s teams always play hard to
the end
Ya unfortunately half the fans give up when were up halfway in the 3rd.
Colletto made a mistake?!?
Offense has left our defense on the field too long in the second half. If our offense doesn’t step up here it is probably over.
See the jersey grab on #0?!?
Fuck, ride the Jam.
Lousy spot on the catch, should be first down.
Bad spot.
Another bad spot!
Wtf spot?
So much for the refs sticking it to USC for leaving the Conference.
The ball landed on the line to gain. Goodness that needs to be a 1st down.
That’s 2 bad spots in this game. SC gifted a 1st down and that play being spotted a yard short.
Colletto ever take snaps from under center? JackHammer sneak?
Fuck
Yur Boy Harrison!
Why
No leeway for the Beavs on play clock
Gut check time right here for the whole
Team
They need to figure out this kicking situation.
Let’s go Beavers!
This is why you play the game! time for a takeaway!
Crucial Penalties, 2 turnovers, near miss fumble recovery, missed field goal, numerous missed sacks but a defensive stand and a score still gets a win.
Go Beavs!!
Holy Christ dummies in front of us standing and screaming when we’re on third down
Wow.
Friendly fire.
Time to beat up Dye…
Big stop
16th 3rd down tonight!
Well done Beavers!!!
Play like its the opening drive. It seems like they’re tight. This offense should score easily. No reason to be scared.
This team plays well down and in hurry up.
This D playing like one of the tops in the country.
I love defense.
Caleb Williams has never been so flustered and frustrated.
How can you expect the D to respond to that 3rd pick? Got to suck it up.
“PI!?”
They did.
Major suck up!…….game ball to Bray for motivation.
They will.
Little grab there…. Little grab there! Luck of the Beavs
Need a safty
Is a safty worth 4 points?
6.5
Nolan. SMH. Just awful
Nolan earned the right to stay on the field
Beat USC in LA last year, first time in 60 years.
Undefeated at home last year.
He’s been good vs so-so teams but not so great vs better squads.
Wow what a stand by the d.
Can we just run wildcat with colletto and call it good?
That was something to watch.
Jam!
You just got Jammed!
Someone needs to make a Spaceballs meme with Lincoln Riley saying “we’ve been jammed”
This is an incredible game.
Best low scoring game in decades?
THAT is our JAM!
Gotta love scoring with a few good runs like that. That’s Beaver football.
Let’s go!! D needs stay playing with their hair on fire
No worries, they will.
Who said Jam looked like one of the best back?
Oh goddamn.
This is my Jam.
Addison with his 2nd catch….19 yards.
28!!!
Fuck. He was stopped before he was pushed.
Gut check of the decade right here.
Due for a turnover!
Bray for President
Fucking former Duck Dye has been the playmaker…
Felt that coming. I mean who didn’t know once the O finally did something the D wouldn’t be able to?
The offense will thrive now and score
Nolan will thrive!
Cmon squints. My god
Is 4 INTs good?
Better than 5
Gulbranson was the move after the 2nd INT. Can’t have a 2INT to 0TD ratio in a game like this.
No.
Nolan beat USC IN USC, ending a 60 year losing streak there. OSU was undefeated at home last year.
Just as McMaryion deserved to be #1 after winning the CW, Nolan should have played after INT #2.
Never once noticed a double move on a team that was looking for INTs.
Wow. High and far behind.
This loss is not on our defense
Nolan cost us this game plain and simple. We’ve seen this a lot but half couldve been blamed on d. This year not the case.
4 Ints, lose by 3. Amazing.
Helluva of game by the D. Amazing.
Plus a missed FG
Need to make a QB change before Utah. Maybe give Nolan 1 quarter in that game.
This isn’t happening.
Season is not over. This should be a confidence builder.
Beavers SHOULD be ranked after this. Won’t. Any other 3-1 team that held USC to this point total would be ranked.
Ranking don’t matter; what the team and coaches learned tonight is what is important. Bray’s D has gotta feel like there is no O they can’t handle, now let’s see how the O (players and coaches) responds.
Over/under of 70.5……..haha
No way Tibs did that.
They only matter from a perception point. If you said any other team in the nation was 3-1, and lost by 3 to the #7 team in the nation, they’d likely be ranked. Unfortunately, this will become “We knew the beavers weren’t real at 3-0.” When it was the Trojans that were exposed.
…knew the beavers weren’t real crowd can also point to Boise now.
I like Chance but tonight he took to many Chances.
Coaching staff takes a chance every time they run him out at QB
Stupid comment. 0 QB runs this game.
Missed opportunity. Loosen up the D, make them wary of it.
I don’t get why they don’t run Nolan more?
18, 19 and 91 talking smack then some sc players do snow angels at midfield after the game…You’d think they just won the championship
Yup…the context is changing. They know they escaped.
Does Utah have Mutombo playing mike?
Think Bam has earned more playing time. Nolan….. just lost tonight. Bray has proven himself and the D is going to get even better.
No Gebbia. Balls batted down.
One loss against a #7 team isn’t a season killer.
Say Smiley Mike. Shit
I strongly disagree… wouldn’t have been close if we did that. No way either of those guys get in rhythm… what hurt us the most was bad decisions and not having a kicker. The kicker is probably the biggest factor.
Terrible call.
It hurts when the better team loses because of boneheaded decisions. USC didn’t force all of these turnovers, especially that last one.
And the PAC announcers act like the Trojan D was the reason for the final result.
No shit, right? The big difference was obviously the Beaver D.
I hope our coaches will see that Griffin is our best running back after this game.
He sure looked like it tonight. He needs more carries.
Didn’t someone keep saying that? But Martinez is spool great.
Wasn’t Caleb Williams’ forward progress stopped before the push?
Yes, but forward progress is where they would spot the ball if it eventually was blown dead. They give some time for the ball carrier to spin and break loose, etc.
Commentators: “Lincoln Riley and the trojans escape. it wasn’t pretty.”
17-14, NOBODY saw that. Damn good game Beavers D!
Don’t let this carryover to Utah!
Hayes is a big problem that needs resolution now. Fix it before Utah. He can’t be out there…open try outs if necessary.
Choukair was 27/46 in his career(not great), but certainly not below 50%. Where’d you get the under 50% from?
Reminded me of the UW game last year where the coaching staff was hoping to win despite him and they almost did it
Just throw it away. That’s what used to make Russel Wilson so efficient in college and his prime in the seahawks.
A “0” play is better than a negative play.
Called us a great opponent in the pregame interview, too.
This is really the least of our problems from last night and shows where rev’s head is at. All about TVs and disses with this guy.
You’ve been saying he’s improved simply because of increase repetitions, and you’re not surprised.
Your terrible with stats. “It was LIKE”.
Unfortunate if he is our best option. Defense appears to be solid and not the scapegoat. 6 wins might be the ceiling with Nolan.
It’s not all about the arm, it’s the decision-making that did Nolan in tonight. Maybe you can give him a pass on the long ball interception, but the other three were just terrible. He either didn’t see the coverage or was just hoping for something.
And he squints too.
Here’s what I predicted for this game:
“USC – L (not in coaching disarray this season, loaded with talented free agents who’ve had 3 games to warm up, and a coach who can apparently lead. Beavs lose a close one. Damn.)”
I hope this doesn’t come true:
@Utah – L (tough crowd environment, physical, Utah coming home after a relaxing beat down of Sun Devils in Tempe, and Beavers may have hangover from “coulda won” the week before);
If the Beavers can recognize their significant potential, and keep their confidence, the COULD win in Utah. Will be tough after tonight.
Mostly agree, but Bray won’t let it be tough on the D; it’ll take more disappointment than this game for the D to have so much doubt in the O that they slack off.
Nolan Couged It to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory. JS we ent pretty conservative and Nolan just needed to be a game manager and not chuck ints.
4 INT, missed FG in a 17-14 game…
It’s not like Gebbia was a bad QB, he beat out Nolan originally for some reason and beat the Ducks in 2020. I wouldn’t mind seeing him since he’s won games before unless he’s still injured. They can’t afford another game like this from Nolan.
Yeah, give Nolan 1 quarter to re-prove himself. If he plays like this yank him.
Either win, or lose by 2+ scores. Don’t freaking blue ball us.
That was one of the best games I’ve seen in a long time.
Williams was contained most of the time, but his mobility, composure, it kept them alive at times. He’s NEVER been challenged like that.
3 points. Those USC fuckers KNOW they are lucky to have one.
I’m amazed to say it, but I never lost faith in the D.
I’m proud of OSU’s effort tonight against a very difficult offense to play against. Couldn’t have asked for anything more from that unit
That and the notion that USC is the “flag bearer” for the PAC in the playoffs…
“Didn’t like the play calling either though.
Speaking of karma, how good would we be with Penix at QB?
If the defense keeps showing up, we’d be good with just about every other school’s qb. Just not Squints though. He needs to show up consistently vs decent competition.
Where has #8 been all year? Far and away the best rb on the team.
Zero, three, then nine carries in the first 3 games. I think he’ll get the most carries from here on out.
Also when usuck was backed up in their endzone there was a lineman holding in the endzone should have been called a safety
Anyone else notice Trojans Oline was holding all night as well and didn’t get one call against them?
They acted like Stone Cold came by practice to teach the oline some wrestling moves. One replay was a straight up tackle in full view of the ref. I don’t think the refs are paid off like that NBA ref who was caught but I do think the brand/influence/perceived prestige of the other team subconsciously plays a part in the bias of the officials.
Why would you not think that? With all the betting on this game, the fix was in.
Perhaps we can get a rematch with USC for the conference championship, beat Utah, UW, WSU, UO feels like a tall order but I don’t think the Beavs are overmatched by any of those teams.
11-1 could still be magical season …
Agreed. They are the most talented and well coached team that we will play all year and we still almost beat them. If we beat Utah and don’t get cocky we could win out barring another appearance by the riverboat gambler or some additional special teams fuckery.
Of all of those, I think UW is the biggest remaining challenge.
Next week Utah will get the USC treatment. Why do you think these games are on the Pac-12 Network? Because ESPN. and FOX know we have a legit top 10 team, but want USC and others to do well for realignment purposes. This game solidified that sentiment for me.
That was tough. All I am going to say. Tough, tough loss. We will find out a lot about this team next week at Utah.
How the D will handle it will be important. If they can keep their heads up, there’s great possibilities remaining.
” But the talent gap is there…”
Other than not tackling Williams’ legs, I didn’t see much of a gap.
A couple of big fast DTs would have been nice, but I was impressed with OSU’s D’s ability to make impacts in the absence of such players.
Yeah, that’s exactly what I came away with. The Beavers were right there talent-wise. Turnovers decided the game like they usually do with two closely matched teams.
4 unforced turnovers and a missed fg…lost by 3…I’d say we flat out whooped they ass and they were lucky to escape still undefeated
Do we have anyone that can kick a field goal?
Colletto should be QB.
At least the house is paying out big time tonight. Congrats to everyone who took the Beavers. Anyway to find out how much the betting parlors lost on that game?
Wonder too how that over/under 70.5 worked out for the house.
I cashed in but I would give up that money for a beaver win. Legitimately.
We just need to win the Pac 12 North correct to go to the Pac 12 championship? Usc and Utah only matter for tie breaker if division tie?
There are no divisions this year. Top two play in the championship.
No divisions, best two teams (conference record) play for championship, I believe.
Yes.
70”? No wonder we lost.
No shade but a party at ur age with kids? What’s that like?
Worst game of Nolan’s career, a real stinker that cost em the game and the whole locker room knows it. Tough to navigate.
But imagine being a Nebraska fan and watching Adrian Martinez take down Oklahoma with KState. TPB.
Imagine if jt daniels transferred to oregon state.
Now if we can hold on to Bray.
Kicking game has been ignored
“We ain’t done yet.” That was the mantra last season. But they were done. I’ve seen this movie before.
Hope I’m wrong.
“We ain’t done yet.” I seem to recall that was last season’s mantra. But of course they were done.
Another “special” season for the Beavs?
Beaver Believers-You gave us a great game hats off to you But better athletes always find a way as Caleb Willams found Jordan TD then dagger in the heart interception, 17-14 SC ??
Man what a game.
I don’t see the reason to move on from Nolan now. USC’s secondary and LBs were a bad matchup for our receivers.
I recall Matt Moore throwing 6 INT’s vs Arizona and Luton throwing for 88 yards against UDub; look how they turned out.
“I recall Matt Moore throwing 6 INT’s vs Arizona…” man that was awful. I wonder if that’s an OSU record?
Yeah that’s the record. Incredibly we had a chance to win that game in the end.

Actually, I think there might have been a 7 INT game back when Kragthorpe had the team throwing 50 times a game…
Erik Wilhelm was pretty smart with the ball, I don’t think he threw 7 picks in a game, and btw that loss in ’05 to a bad Arizona team was brutal also.
Wasn’t that Nick Foles’ first start? I remember that game too. So disappointing.

According to Daschel this morning…Utah is an 11 1/2-point favorite over Oregon State.
Early Vegas line gives Beavs from 9.5 to 12.5 pts in the game this week vs Utah.
Easy money? Range about 3-4 pts high?

Sorry, was typing when OJ posted
Depends on Which Nolan shows up. Chance or Chase (the guy chasing throws that aren’t there) If it’s Chase they’ll beat us badly
Wow, what a game. Hard loss, but winnable.
Praise due to ppl who surmised they wanted to see SC under “adversity.” The team accomplished exactly that. And SC was obviously unused to that.
I have a more positive spin overall. While the errors proved costly, the key ones are coachable corrections, I feel.
-This is a team that does make you believe in it-
If nothing else, that game should get us a top QB commit or transfer. Nolan is a smart player, but his arm isn’t as good as his head.
Chiles?
Postgame video, gotta love Kipper:

Stansbury may be out of a job.
Sit him, get him time with a sports psychologist, extra practice with a tennis ball?
Something!
It would be nice to have a Hodgins on the roster again.
What’s the deal with Mikayla Tongue? He’s the only big receiver, is he just not ready for primetime?
Heard he has a bad back
