People have gotten on me for my comments about McCoy, but we’re about to hit game 6, and he has 2 passing TDs and 1 INT and a measly 6.2 yard per pass average. I don’t really care if he can run for 213 yards over 5 games. 40 yards per game rushing is not worth having a guy with only 2TDs and who can’t really extend the field.
That said, I think Nevada is bad enough that it will work again.

Kalen DeBoer is now 1-4 against Boise, Hawai’i, and Vandy, with the one win coming against Boise. Poor guy.
He reminds me of McM, a guy we both liked 5 years ago. He seems good to me especially in the 2 min drill.
MyCoy hasn’t been helped by our receivers. Lots of drops or should have been caught passes. The best receivers out there caught 50/50 balls or adjust to the ball for the catch. Our receivers seem to like the ball thrown only on the numbers with the correct speed as to not break a fingernail.
With that said McCoy still has some anxiety as the QB which cloud his timing. This is why we run the damn ball so much.
Yes. The reason McCoy looks jittery at times and throws a lot of 50/50 balls is because that’s all there is available to him. Beavs desperately need downfield targets that can get open.
We’re actually pretty average as a team when it comes to drops. Almost all of them are Walker, but he also gets targeted a disproportionate amount.
Our receivers are just not great. Hopefully Clemons starts to progress with more game time under his belt.

The transfer portal’s gutting of our team is becoming move evident as the year goes on. No depth, not very many explosive players. Team is shaky at best. I feel like if we can become bowl eligible and maybe win a crappy bowl then it will be a successful year. Bray and his staff need a couple of full recruiting cycles to try and develop a deeper team of players who can grow into dynamic players. Until then, we’ll be hard pressed to win games against decent opponents.

In the current NIL environment how do you keep players if you don’t have big NIL donors. Not sure how Boise state was able to stay with Oregon. How can you build a team if you develop someone and they get bought away from you? Why don’t they get signed contracts that would have to be bought out of? We were a top 10 team last year, but for Smith. Was it the demise of the league or going G5 or money that gutted the Beavs. That said, I was proud of the way they dug deep to win.
BSU has Jeanty and a solid, not spectacular defense. That’s it. If Jeanty goes down they become merely above average.
Also gotta believe that Jeanty either gets drafted next year or goes somewhere else for NIL money. Can’t see him actually being at Boise State again next season.

What do I know. CBS Sports just had a 2025 NFL mock draft and had Jeanty going 7th overall to the Titans.

From what little high lights I saw, it looked like they were aggressive on defense mixing in various blitz packages. Having a Heisman worthy running back also helped.
It seems like Ducks offense really started to click when they played us. I think their defense is under rated. The game against tge Buckeyes in Eugene Saturday night should be a good one!
I blame Sappington. He got them especially motivated vs. the Beavs by being a former Beav and relaying how much they hate the Ducks, etc. At least that was relayed in a UO interview. On top of that they had played “poorly” vs. Idaho and Boise, all the more motivation.

Nevada played SMU close at home opening week and got shut out on the road by Minnesota. They’ve been better at home than on the road. QB is former 4-star and Colorado transfer Brendon Lewis, who is a competent dual-threat. They are solid across the board, with no real standout units. Tackling is poor and their run defense has been poor when tested against quality opponents.

I think we match up well with Nevada’s weaknesses. Nothing really stands out on their offense. Their obvious weaknesses are tackling and run defense, which we should be able to exploit. Beavs are down 2 of the top 7 o-line, 3 of the top d-line, 3 potential starters in the secondary, playing freshmen at linebacker, no Jam Griffin, Terry is your only TE catching passes(yikes), Walker is getting 50% of wr targets (!), zero threat at punt or kickoff return, Hayes has made 50%or his fg attempts so far.
I’d say McCoy is the team MVP by a long shot so far and the staff is working miracles to get to 4-1. The NIL transfer took Bolden and Martinez which is a much bigger deal than Chiles/Veiling/Miller to MSU. Defense had at least 3 starters transfer also. It is a tough ask for a first year staff to replace essentially 8 upperclassmen starters but this staff is doing a pretty good job at playing the hand they were dealt.
Get a win at Nevada, take your shot with UNLV in Reser and get to 6 wins. If the team regroup and get a few guys healthy for the stretch run, it may not be out of the question to get to 10 wins.
Cal may be crumbling by the time we play them,
San Jose will be tough to slow down,
Air Force is winnable,
WSU tends to fade at the end of the year,
Boise St will be a loss and the Beavs may be the reason Jeanty wins the Heisman if he runs over the Beavs for the entire game…
Maybe 7-5 is the best to expect with all of the challenges, but I think SJSU, CAL, WSU are at least toss-up winnable.

It isn’t easy or cheap to come back from the dead figuratively in NCAA sports. Beavs were cast off by everyone but the Cougs and this was the best they could do. At least they didn’t lose the top tier of key players like every other sport did. Canham likely will roll into Omaha next June if Dorman can figure out his staff. The lineup will bomb away on the pitching they will see in that schedule. I expect Turley will break Bazanna’s season record for homeruns this year.

I don’t think so. I was hoping they would have put him end of the first quarter when the offense was struggling. We REALLY need some kind of vertical downfield passing game. Not the short outs but throwing the ball 20-30 yards down field. Once we click on a few if those it will make a good ground game, great.

Seems like unless we are already somewhat comfortable he won’t be playing any more.

I am interested to hear how the frosh WRs, Gutridge, and Hatcher are doing. I’ve heard the frosh linemen are doing good work. We’ll get to see plenty of Allah (fingers crossed) on Saturday. And it looked like Foster played better as the game went on.
I think the frosh core could develop into something special. Just looking at their LOI announcements was impressive. And I’m not even talking about their stats. They don’t seem to be a group who will chase a bag.
It’s too bad we didn’t get Kim. Maybe he comes home in the future.
And they can play in games 9-12, when we might need some depth. When that happens, I expect Ayers will score more TDs than anyone.

37-28 Nevada. Too many injuries and playing on road. Nevada will force Beavs to pass and Beavs will struggle to get off the field. MWC officials will not be our friends. Even though Beavs are favored, Nevada is better team especially at home. Hoping for the best but I don’t see a Beavs win in this matchup.
I’m predicting Beavs will be 5-5 heading into last 2 games of the year vs WSU and BSU unless they can get healthy and improve in run D. A bowl game will come down to beating the Cougs.

Cal- adv OSU
SJSU- adv OSU

Cal and WSU are both tossups due to SOS (theirs is much higher than ours).
I think UNLV’s record and game grades are sort of fool’s gold. They beat a terrible Houston team and a 1-win Kansas team with very poor game grades. Then they smashed Utah Tech and a terrible Fresno State team. The close loss to Syracuse looks pretty good, but their game grade was on par with what we did against Purdue and CSU. Their run defense is poor, so we match up pretty well. Big question will be if our defense can stop them.
The part that concerns me about UNLV is their speed on offense. They can run the speed option extremely well.

Does anyone know how OSUs NIL war chest compares nationally? Obviously it’s not up there with the major schools but how about compared to like a Kansas State, Syracuse, South Florida, etc? I feel like there actually is an opportunity for all these types of schools with NIL provided you are at least reasonably competitive with payments and have a good coaching staff. Good recruits have two objectives…..1)Make Money 2)Make it to the NFL. To accomplish both you need playing time. And a quality coaching staff that will develop you. So a 3 star guy and even some 4 stars would be better off starting for an OSU and getting the best NIL offer they could provide as opposed to languishing on the bench for an Ohio State. The Beavs have always made hay in the past by taking mainly 3 star guys and coaching them up. That level guy should still be plenty available if Bray and company can create a reputation for themselves.
There was an article from a year or two ago that compiled total donations to athletic programs from the last 10-15 years. OSU was ranked in the mid-40’s.
I would expect our recruiting next year to pick up significantly with the conference thing being more defined.

So former Disney execs have $5B to toss around and they magnanimously invite 70 schools instead of just 32? I don’t buy it. The release is a set up to stir excitement. The fools at Big12 offices will be rope a doors into signing on before they read it thoroughly. I think the Big12 is so desperate to be one of the big boys that they would fall for this charade. We know the ESPN/Disney syndicate has been trying to reduce college football to big brands. How hard is it to think this is more of the same in updated packaging?
“Private equity” (Disney) would have ownership rights of the league and partnership with the media and schools.

I actually wouldn’t mind the Super League, we’ve essentially been there for years already. The main question will be, is there a competitive avenue for a currently smaller program to play their way in to it? Hence…..wait for it……Promotion/Relegation…..This is really the only way a super league concept could be even remotely fair or interesting. An isolated super league where only the biggest and richest programs have keys to entry would be extremely repetitive and dull.
It is an incredibly stupid idea and will just lead to further consolidation, promotion/relegation ain’t happening.

Creating a new division between FCS and FBS is dumb and I have less than no interest in that.

Agree that the old bowl system was better for schools like OSU because it highlighted the regional element and gave us something tangible we had a chance to actually win every once in a blue moon. You could win your conference in a down year for the traditional powers or go to a big bowl game and if the national power you play there isn’t at their peak you might be able to knock them off too. A national title was never in the cards but there were other ways to be relevant. I agree that the playoff model has destroyed that and was always destined to lead us to where we are today. Unless the sport comes up with something new and innovative though that can re-capture some of that old magic, I don’t see what we’ll ever really be able to play for. Not gonna lie, the MWC/Pac12 2.0 schedule doesn’t do it for me. Highly doubt I’ll stick around long term if this year’s schedule is all we ever get.

Boise State fans have seemed pretty happy for the last 2 decades.
They need a majority of fbs schools to go along with it. It’s the same reason the p4+ND=68.
They can’t make any of these rules or divisions or whatever without that majority. And if they lost the majority, they lose all the rules they have implemented for their own enrichment.
It’s also why they upped the buy-in for FCS-to-FBS from 5k to 5m last year. If we decided to take all that money and simply elevate the Big Sky to FBS, they would no longer have that majority, which is really just a monopoly.
I don’t think anyone should wonder why the NCAA keeps losing antitrust suits, with leadership like this.
Wouldn’t the scheduling plan attract a lawsuit by FCS schools if the whole thing is based on shutting out any future scheduling with FCS schools? Those types of games are how the FCS athletic departments are funded in the first place right? So this group would institue a death penalty for all of the lower division schools that rely on the body bag type games in their non-conference too.
There’s antitrust violations all over all these moves, I think G5 schools have a better case than FCS schools.
lol James Franklin is complaining that the State College airport runway is too short for the size of plane they need to get to LA so they have to bus to Harrisburg and fly out of there.

OSU-CSU game was the highest rated game on The CW this season, surpassing SJSU-WSU from the previous week.
OSU/WSU games also continue to get some of the best ratings for games between unranked teams. Clearly The CW is helping get visibility.
I have no idea how they count the number of viewers but I put the game on every TV I have in the house in the slight hope it adds to numbers. Doing my small bit to help in any media rights negotiations by trying to increase viewership numbers.

Jeanty has elite balance, speed and better acceleration. He is uncanny turning the corner with/through contact and accelerating. I’ve seen multiple plays where he paces the tacklers angle and then accelerates by just enough that he is out of reach once he gets straight. Crazy highlights to watch actually.
He uses his off hand to foil a reach tackler, and runs through arm tackles easily. Leg tackles are the only to bring him down. Watching WSU, Oregon and USU highlights he is never brought down by the “big hit” style of tackling these guys do when they don’t simply wrap up.
Get low, get low. Can’t tackle Jeanty above the waste. If I was Bray, I would be doling out punishment for every attempted tackle above the waste. You can’t run with arms around your legs. It just can’t be done.
And if he tries to stiff arm, grab the arm.

NCAA settlement includes baseball expanding to 34 scholarships. Would this help or hurt us? Maybe it doesn’t matter because the big programs are paying NIL anyway? Seems like it would hurt, though.
My understanding is very few if any get full rides so they’re paying for school. Now 34 guys get full rides with a monthly stipen outside of making the roster and possibly get some NIL money. Seems like it could be good for development by holding some guys that could be good with a year or more in the program. But maybe not.

Here is my rule of thumb for interpreting who benefits from anything done by NCAA or other decisions related to college athletics:
If SEC is proposing it or on board with any decision, then it is bad for OSU.
If any prominent SEC/Big10 schools are complaining about how a decision or proposal hurts them, then the proposal is good for OSU.
This is not really negotiable, and it is fairly full-proof for deciphering what has been happening and what will be happening.
For instance, if LSU thinks it is fine, it will eventually be bad for OSU because they will use NIL to expand how many top flight guys they can stock on their roster rather than going to teams like OSU…

Two deep and a nine man staff is fair. 27 is still a lot, but in the spirit of fully compensating a fully functional roster for every sport, it’s fair.
34 is ridiculous, just like football at 105 is at least 20 more than necessary to field a team.
MLB teams have 40 man rosters, college baseball teams have 45 man rosters. I don’t see why 34 is ridiculous. I don’t really mind 105 for football either. More free school for kids is a positive.
The settlement involves ~$2B per year in revenue sharing across D1 teams, with around 80% concentrated in football. That’s going to destroy all the small men’s sports at schools that play football. tOSU already announced they’re eliminating scholarships for Men’s Gymnastics. When an AD that big is cutting funding, you know it’s going to be bad (and a move that small is more like a trial balloon than a necessary standalone measure).
I’d guess some baseball programs will get cut rather than trying to compete with 3x the scholarships.
Think about the course of college sports over the last 20 years:
-ESPN entered into conference media deals which injected cash to a lot of schools,
-Facilities arms race with huge capitol investments by smaller brands to keep pace
-Playoff formats destroyed the Rose Bowl prestige
-Brand consolidation through realignment multiple times over
-Recruiting sites make high school kids think they are NFL bound
-NIL shakes the foundation
-Transfer portal is opened without penalty or delay for athletes
-Lawsuit leads to massive shutdown of many college programs after the settlement
So what is left after all of that process? While ESPN gets to handpick their brands to continue to infuse massive cashflow, the majority of schools are financially punished, albeit with nice athletics buildings but can no longer field multiple sports.
I wonder if schools on a mass scale reconsider how they are classified and depart from D1 agreements and move out of that sphere. Perhaps a more defined amateur athletics without the old time restrictions on NIL. Imagine if 60 current D1 football programs had the decision to cut a combined 10 sports (men/women) in order to stay afloat financially? How many would reconsider on a broader scale what they are doing and seek alternative options? Would the other sports/athletes ever again trump the “football is king” mentality?
I think we probably feel the same about this stuff, but just for the sake of debate:
-A lot of the money added to programs has actually benefited the players in terms of better sports medicine, better chances for late bloomers to develop at top facilities, etc.
-Conference realignment has been going on forever. The reasons are all that has changed. Chicago U, Ivy League and the service academies used to be big programs.
-By and large, the kids with delusions of grandeur get weeded out in college ball the same way they always have
-Transfer portal and NIL present more opportunities for the players. NIL is a good thing on the whole, the lack of regulation is the issue. Transfer portal just makes it easier to find the right fit and gives the athletes the opportunity to make a real adult decision (which is part of the personal development that college athletics are supposed to facilitate anyway).
-More programs are moving up a division than down a division, which tells you universities see football as a valuable marketing tool in an increasingly difficult higher-ed market. This signals they will continue to invest in football. The smaller sports will be the victims, but there is great competition happening at the non-scholarship level in plenty of sports.
The biggest losses here have been killing off tradition (like the Rose Bowl), and disenfranchising people that spend less money on the sport in favor of catering to corporate ticket-buyers and creepy religious level fans (like the enablers at PSU). This is the natural result of major investment in ANYTHING, though. Investment seeks return and return has to come from somewhere.
I suspect that smart AD’s will figure out how to take advantage of big schools dumping Olympic Sports and capitalize to make it their focal point (e.g. Northern Arizona and Furman have both emerged as strong XC and track players, Stanford has made it a point to be good at all the obscure Olympic sports, UND, Maine and others’ biggest investment priority is hockey, DBU is all in on baseball). The great thing about Olympic Sports is the investment needed is generally smaller than in football.
As a lacrosse guy this saddens me.

He did work hard to assemble what looks like a decent roster. Though, it would be nice not to have to rely on the Clearinghouse for it to be completed.
And he’s at least fielded progressively better teams, despite everyone being poached. The new recruiting strategy is at least a positive, in that he understands he (and OSU in general) is not equipped to play the NIL game with kids in the old recruiting model. Randy Bennett and Mark Few (to a lesser extent) have been doing it for years.
We’ll see. If the length and athleticism is there on D, and that leads to us actually having a transition game, all it would take to see some success is some team unity.
That’ll be a discussion early.
Granted but his teams rarely improve beyond mid-December and the trend has been a disentegration of basic skills by mid-season for any newcomers.
I was sort of joking back when I said international players may have the fundamentals to overcome his deficiencies as a coach. If development is more a matter of conditioning than it is working to improve all skill sets, team cohesiveness will be the most important thing to see mid to late season .500 ball or better.
The Elite 8 run was sort of the same collection of already developed players simply coming together at the right time. The discipline wasn’t there early, because the dynamics of making a team gel is just different with US kids. International players usually have a better sense of team unity.
Again, we’ll see. My expectation to consider this a successful season is to just make the NIT. We’re not getting rid of him after this season, barring some on or off court disaster that makes him being here simply untenable.
And I certainly won’t extend him until he makes the Tourney. A bowl game in football is a silly trigger, when half the teams get into one. But in hoops it makes more sense.
I don’t have high hopes of any of it happening. But if he figures a workaround to success in the new landscape of NCAA hoops, and he makes it work on a shoestring, he deserves some credit for completely changing his methods to do so.
The support will need to be organic, though. They need to surprise their own fans, at this point. If they do, the money will start flowing.
He’s at a prove it or lose it point. And he gets some cushion with our situation. We’ll see how it all works out. We pretty much have to.
Good points. You’re probably a bit more measured than I am when it comes to watching a Tinkle team. I’m pretty exhausted of his whole act. But it is a new approach so maybe he has finally learned from all of the failures. He has gotten to NCAAs twice, which I have to give credit for as well.
NIT will be extra hard to make this year due to the new rules favoring power conference teams. There are less (or none?) spots reserved for mid-majors, which we technically are.
Pretty sure last year we were “just a year away” from making some noise according to Tinkle.

Looking at the NCAA tourney results last year, Pac went 6-4 and WCC was 2-2. Gonzaga has both wins, St Mary was bounced in the 1st round

I did some twitter searching and googling. It appears some reputable sources started indicating a week or so ago that the PAC12 / Memphis conversations never really stopped and that (as of 3-4 days ago) they were suddenly heating up.
In the last 24 hours it seems a handful of twitter users started tweeting it was done and it has snow balled a bit but I can’t find anyone of note who indicates there’s a deal with Memphis.
Media members aren’t going to “officially” know until the institutions want them to. That doesn’t mean there isn’t an agreement.

Well, what would we consider a win for Gould and the PAC12 leadership? If they announce Memphis in all sports, and a multi-lane media deal worth $15 mil/school, is that a win for the next 5 years? Or perhaps they have enough new forward thinkers that they are adding Private Equity to media rights and production value as an off-set to get more like $30 mill per school. I think that would be incredible, which is why I know it isn’t going to be the case.

$15M plus a renegotiated CFP annual distribution to reflect the new additions. And would be nice to some transparency around how much the Pac12 enterprises will bring in.
If the media deal, CFP distribution and Pac12 enterprises can get each school above $25 annually, I think you have to call that a win. Especially for Gonzaga, they’s be on cloud 9, not having to support a football program.
If all the X twitter rumors are true around the Gonzaga addition and private equity, then I think getting the overall per-school disbursement (from both media-buy and PE combined) up to ~$15-20m would easily bring on Memphis (and probably Tulane) and that would be a solid W.
The disaster scenario that all the the “they’re screwed” P12 detractors are putting out there is if they are only able to get $8-10m per-school and have to settle for a TSU, North Texas, NMSU, or SacState addition, and that would be a massive and embarrassing L. I don’t think Gonzaga comes on-board if that’s the likely outcome though.
~$25m+ is a stretch (although not impossible depending on the PE $). If they some how pulled that off then I’d expect all of Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, USF to eventually join, and potentially UNLV and UCONN as well and it’s a grand-slam win. I don’t think USF hoping for the B1G invite is as big of a detractor as is made out to be, because they have an easy out in the new Pac-12 agreement should any schools get invited to the “Power 4”. They’d have to pay their way out, but if your moving up to the B1G you can easily afford it. They’ll jump from the AAC with the others if the money is that good ($25m+).
I’m preparing for the worst-case (luck o’ da Beavs) but optimistic for a solid win.
$15-20m per school with the CW as the primary linear partner along with Turner for BBALL and a big streaming deal with one of the bigger streamers (Apple/Amazon), they add Memphis and one other (Tulane probably) to get to 9 football members and call it good for now.

I think he gives Gunderson 2 years as Bray is not an offensive coach and will be a bit more patient on that side of the ball.
I’d say a lot of the challenge right now is dealing with injuries on both lines. Defense is down at lest 3 key dlinemen, and Oline has lost 2-3 of the top 7 for the year. Also the defense is playing a lot of underclassmen so the expectations need to be realistic. And by the way, they are 4-1 so far…don’t panic just yet.

Beavs have had a lot of “administrative” errors in this game, 3 interceptions, and had a touchdown taken off the board due to a penalty. McCoy has made some nice throws, and some bad reads. Gundy has nearly abandoned the run at times.
Beavs are killing Nevada on the stats lines but have created quite a hole to dig themselves out of.

The ducks just did an interesting onside kick earlier that I’ve actually wondered why it isn’t tried more instead of the soft roll. Their kicker drove the ball as hard as he could right at one of the guys 10 yards away from him, and it went so quickly that the guy couldn’t catch it or get out of the way. Ducks recovered.

The 2 redzone chances for no points in the first half combined with a late pick 6 were the difference. They should have been shortening the game and running the ball instead of McCoy passing so much actually, punting isn’t such a bad strategy.
Yes, but having no defense is the main culprit. We put up over 30 points even with all the offensive issues. Our defense let a 2-4 team put up over 40. The rest of this season looks to be ugly.

Mine has figured out that it’s just best to not say anything after a Beavs loss.
We’ve been trending that way but finally got the full Judas/Tibs kind of Beaver performance.
All the injuries aside, they got out-coached again tonight. KHJ the worst offender, not sure what his philosophy is on D but it looks like “soft” and “lazy” is the intention? Frustrating that they have success causing chaos going cover-0 like they have since Bray took over but then they never go back to it, especially in the few passing situations they had them in. Just Brutal Tibesar stuff.
Gevani has been getting away with staring down throws to the sideline all season, surprised that was his first pick-6. Not his best game by far but he also made some great plays. Where was the option game?
With the roster where it’s at and the rest of the schedule, they’re fighting for 2 more wins (SJSU/Air Force) to get to a bowl game. If they don’t regain some momentum the Portal could be a nightmare.
Something’s rotten with the strength and conditioning program, too.
Gotta wonder. I recall mention of last year’s team having very few injuries. Those S&C coaches trailed along with Smith and there is a major difference.
If McCoy is hurt and no longer has the dual threat capabilities that got him the starting job anyways, Gulbranson needs to be starting going forward

It is nice to finally not deal with horrifically biased PAC12 refs, only to now be dealing with somewhat vindictive MWC refs. Not blaming this one on the refs, however, they did have some shady long discussions before deciding what they ought to call, and generally it was against OSU, by the sound of it.
Bringing up the refs after this debacle is beyond cringeworthy. This team has issues far beyond officiating.
Watching the game, the refs werent a problem. In fact, it felt like they favored OSU a little. Nevada’s defense got called for multiple holds, PI’s that I’ve seen other referee crews ignore. And they helped us when the clock kept running on that last drive by resetting the clock which actually stopped to ket our offense get set.
Maybe Mike Parker saw it differently but he’s a bigger homer than pretty much anybody at OSU, so I wouldn’t say his interpretation isn’t unbiased.
Even with a pourous defense, you can’t throw 4 picks with one going for. TD. They also had 2 fumbles but recovered those.
I don’t know how we and the school can continue in good faith to invest in this garbage year in year out with similar results. Our ceiling is a 10-3 season at this point

We’ve had 3 10 win or better seasons in the last 100+ years of the program sure that’s a great season, but when it’s your ceiling and your ceiling only comes an average of once every 20+ years….

Really with almost 600 yards of offense, the Beavs should have won a high-scoring shoot-out but as is usually the case turnovers decide the outcome. This game had some particularly egregious ones.

Lot of headscrathing coaching decisions this game. I don’t get the Gundy play calls inside the 10. Just awful. I also don’t understand why tonight they decided to throw the ball so much when the run game was working so well and our QB was clearly injured. Looked to be more than just his hand too. Which also begs the question, how bad are BG and Bari in this system if we keep McCoy in the game after throwing 3 pics and is playing injured? They’ve totally went away from giving Bari any playing time and yet this seems like a game that he could’ve thrived in with his legs.
Defensively, i don’t even know where to start. We have so many injuries, it’s insane. Not sure what the strength team is doing or what the hell they do in practice but Holy shit, we legit have 15-20 players that are injured pretty badly. Thomas, J Rob and Singleton have all missed several weeks now and who the hell knows what the D Line situation is. All that aside, even when we were healthy in week 1 and 2, I still don’t know what the defense is. We rarely blitz, create 0 pressure in the backfield and the lines and angles we take to the ball carrier is just really bad. I thought we’d get to 6 wins easily this year but after tonight’s performance, 6 wins almost seems unlikely.
KHJ needs to be feeling some heat at this point. The defense seems either passive or completely out of position. Sounds like a scheme issue more than execution to me.
Agree on McCoy situation too. If he is hurt, try and protect hime by handing it off to other runners creatively. Where was a Card fly sweep? Why not bring in Johnson for a qb keeper or something similar? Ultimately 4 ints cost them the game. Pick 6 was a back-breaker.
Homecoming next week against UNLV may be worse. Unless Bray can hit the free agent market and bring in some additional dlinemen by Wed, it may be ugly. UNLV will be tougher to slow down, and KHJ hasn’t shown the willingness tyo takes risk/reward type chances so far. They are gong to need to adjust the philosophy if they want to get to a bowl game this year and it will mean a much more aggressive approach at the snap.
Yes, the offense play calls were really odd. It’s like we can’t do more than 1 thing a game. Got the TE much more involved this game but didn’t use the option or lean on the run game at all despite having success with it. Maybe they don’t trust Allah to be a true contributer yet. He only had 6 carries at 6.5 a pop. Seems a little silly to not get him more involved. It’s just been so long since the entire team has laid an egg. All the coaches and both sides of the ball were just plain bad this game. Guess the 1 highlight was Hayes making another fg.
Saw this one coming from a mile away. And that was before the injuries. I did not realize we were missing 5 key guys on defense. The bottom line is we don’t have the depth on defense. But I suppose these games are building depth. The bottom line is the defense is way too concerned about giving up big plays so they are giving up big plays. Players are indecisive. Taking bad angles, getting caught in the wash and slow to react. You can blame coaching all you want, but the inexperience on D is showing big time. There are zero leaders on D. People will complain about the offense, but the offense is fine. Some issues with red zone scoring but other than that they are moving and controlling the ball and minus this game protecting it. The defense has got to find a way to play looser. They have to swarm. I highly doubt Bray is pleased with the defense and we know he has the chops to fix it. I just don’t think they have the horses right now. Still a lot of football left. Nevada was far better than their record and it showed. It was the definition of a trap game and it played out exactly as such. Gotta find something on defense.
Well, we’re 4-2 with one of the losses to the #2 team in the country. We have a first-year coaching staff, tons of new and young players, lots of injured starters. FFS, this team is actually overachieving in this situation. It’s frustrating because they show glimpses of a good team, but then the above factors yank the ball away. Anyway, this is football, and no doubt things will change with time, and our Beavs will get it together, just not this year.
Hopefully we get to six wins before the Boise State game, then Bray puts all the freshmen in on defense to let Jeanty go for 600. That’d be a good learning experience.

You have to have some type of downfield threat or teams will just stack the box and shut down your running game. I did not watch the game, so don’t know how bad the throws were that led to picks. If McCoy is struggling or hurt, put in a different QB.
Also had two fumbles that we were fortunate to recover or would have had 6 turnovers.
I had this as a 3 or 4 win team. That is looking pretty solid right now. Though, we’re probably better than UNLV and SJSU (maybe not, I don’t know much about those fellow high school teams).

Back to the relevant point, there’s no standard of winning for the Oregon State football program, and there won’t ever be one (unlike the baseball program). The fundamental mindset of the Oregon State fanbase is to accept mediocrity in terms of marketing, brand, and onfield performance. Until that mindset changes drastically, no amount of money can buy the Beavers a win in prime time. They won’t ever win at a B1G or SEC school that is relevant. They won’t ever win a CFP game.

CSU beat SJSU so through the totally scientific transitive win method, that means we should have a win there, right? Right?
I’m struggling to understand those criticizing the coaching staff. Imagine trying to game plan and make adjustments with the lack of weapons and talent this team has. IMO, Bray and co. have done an incredible job just to stay competitive and come away with 4 wins to date. Every game I see good adjustments that seem to work for short periods of time until the competition counters. We’re just limited in what we can do. If we get that TD they called back for holding (bad call) and that fumble (close call) the play before Nevada TD, Beavs are likely 5-1 with what amounts to a beat up MWC team with new roster and coaching staff.
We are witnessing the ceiling for Beaver football. What has helped OSU in the past is being a member in the old PAC-12. OSU would often times get recruits being their only PAC-12 offer. The current talent level is likely the best we will see due to the carry over of recruits recruited during the old PAC-12 days. If you’re a 17-18 year old where would you rather go? Corvallis? Or would you rather go to a larger population with more things to do such as San Diego, Fresno, Boise, even Ft. Collins? Or go to a school that can drop a larger NIL money bag? The Beavers are at huge disadvantage and will likely be mediocre even in this new PAC-12. OSU also used to be among the best doing more with less and player development. But, when your roster gets poached by the portal and NIL before the development pays off it’s basically nonexistent and meaningless. Which is why OSU has no business or positive upside to playing Oregon in football ever again. It only benefits Oregon so they have a guaranteed win that is a non FCS school to pad their stats and their record. They left us! Move on! Oregon has arguably the most talented roster in college football, whereas OSU has one of the least talented rosters. I will still cheer for my team, but I’m not as invested as I have been in the past. I’m losing interest in the current college football model, not necessarily in the Beavers if that makes sense. I think OSU will be lucky to reach 6 wins. I think UNLV, Cal, Wazzu, and Boise State will beat us, and most likely be blowouts unfortunately.
Yes, imo College Football (and other sports) are dead. It died starting with NIL and an extra nail in the coffin was the PAC12 breakup. Although there has been some hopium in the air as of late with Bray and to some extent the new members… let’s be honest with ourselves… the landscape will only get worse. We are just one of the first schools to have a front row seat.
Will it come back in the future? Maybe. Who knows.

I’ve stated this before and I’ll state it again. You continue become very volatile whenever I post and continue to have this elaborate theory that I am conspiring with friends I have at Oregon State when I haven’t gone there to:
1. Produce a censored-out Oregon State student ID, which I have posted on here before with a paper background on which I wrote my username and the date.
2. Produce a picture of my view from the student section at football games on multiple occasions.
3. Produce a censored-out student section ticket, which I have also posted here.
Now, you think I am faking all of these things, and that, for over 2 years now, on this very niche sports forum, that I have been pretending to have gone to Oregon State for what purpose? To give the Oregon State athletics programs harsh criticisms (which is in the name of the site, and why I signed up in the first place)? And you think that makes me a troll? Mr. Jack, I sincerely challenge you to find and screenshot of a time in which I haven’t been anything but happy for Oregon State in their successes or upset at their failures, albeit with harsh criticisms mixed in between it all. I continually laugh at how upset you get at many of my posts simply because they are made by me, despite the fact that many others agree. I think the problem is that you are unable to be objective, yet I am. I think that’s more than clear in my season record predictions, which, barring some massive turn around by this squad, will have been true or nearly true 2 years in a row now (I predicted 8 wins last year and 6 this year).
So, again, I invite you to produce some evidence to the contrary that would infer that I am not an Oregon State fan besides…. not wanting to pay $600 dollars to go to the Bay for the weekend to possibly get blown out by Cal?

Wow, we had 17 players from defensive two-deep unavailable this past weekend. Is that right? At what point is this the S&C team’s fault? That’s almost the entire two-deep.

Yes 17 players on D (since the start of camp) were not available on the 2 deep. I don’t think I have ever seen a team hit with injuries as bad as this one has.
Like I said, they are overachieving with the adversities they’ve been dealt.
