nike having trouble attracting students (boo hoo!), Beavs share little news on finding a new AD, baseball RPI can’t seem to reflect all the intangibles which make for a championship team. So the world goes.
Meanwhile, what’s it gonna take for Miiiitch’s gang to get to Omaha…AGAIN.
What are people thinking on Dorman? I seem to remember quite a few people on here pretty sour on him the last couple of years but the staff has been great this year. People coming around on him at all?
Bad timing on asking this lol
Uh huh.
Super regional is the ceiling this year. If the pitching is this bad they may not even win a regional at home
(Never been a fan of Dorman)
Dorman is one of the pitching coaches and recruiters in all of college baseball. Look at the stats and numbers if you need proof. Our great pitchers are here and successful because of him.
Ummm. What?
Beavs in a dogfight with the flyboys. Those guys can freaking hit the ball.
Beav pitching perhaps?
35 of their 49 games have been against Q3 and Q4 teams.
They are 0-14 vs Q1 and Q2 and only one of those games was a Q1 opponent
Any loss this weekend would probably kill hosting a home regional
Tugboat drivers are flyboys?
lol… I thought we were playing Portland. That’s how down I’ve been since Dax was injured.
I guess the Beavs decided to flush the host opportunity tonight rather than leave it in the committee’s hands for another week.
Too bad, but at least they can begin to mentally prepare for a road regional.
There goes the regional host. Two weeks ago in great spot to host supers and now won’t even host regionals. That’s too bad bc this team has the talent but played down to inferior talent the last two weeks.
I guess this loss will eliminate any controversy about hosting a regional.
I would not be shocked if this team goes 0-2 in whatever regional they get sent to. Oh well……
9-6 AF top of 9, Beavs are likely going to drop the game and their RPI.
Perhaps they are who we thought they were since Surprise. Top heavy pitching staff, suspect middle relievers, inconsistent bats, great defense with some unexplainable glitches. All of it came out tonight.
They didn’t really try to manufacture runs as in other games, maybe it wasn’t really an option due to some of the game situations. Talt has gone silent, and it has a pretty big effect on the rest of the line-up.
Beavs still #17 RPI.
18 now. Ducks just passed us to take 17 spot.
Unfortunately the Beavs are the only team with 5 Q4 losses in the top 35, not a good look if RPI is emphasized.
Teams with the fewest Q1 wins in the top 40- 1 win: USC, Mercer; 2 wins: Oregon St. Several teams with 4 but everyone else has many more than OSU.
Ackrite is probably on target on all of it. Beavs have been propped up by a weak schedule but unfortunately coughed up at least 4 home games, and 5 Q4 games they couldn’t afford to lose. Of those combination of losses, they needed maybe 2-3 wins out of the 8-9 and they are in great shape for a top 8 seed. I’d say they may be able to play loose on the road after having so much pressure to try and get the host seed to end the year.
Bounce back and finish with a win and see what happens I guess.
Is it true that with a win tomorrow the Beavs will be the only team in the country to have won every weekend series this year?
UCLA also. Coastal was one of 3 but they lost a weekend series last week for the 1st time.
A Husky win tomorrow would change that. FWIW
I just saw that but only dropping 1 spot could still be an outside shot if they win tomorrow.
RPI……here’s a comparison for ya:
Record vs Q1 and Q2………USC 9-10 RPI 7
BEAVS 12-6 RPI 18
Wow those losses vs Q3/4 are killing the Beavs!
An Eggers piece says weekend results are more important than mid-week…..that approach favors the Beavs.
https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/2026/beavers-look-for-a-sweep-and-the-chance-for-a-deep-run
I think the Beavs are good, but not great, with a somewhat circumspect schedule. They also had some opportunities to beat P-4 teams early in the year. Without Dax, I’m not even sure they’re tournament-worthy. Wherever they are sent, they will have their chance, just like the other 63 teams; that’s enough for me as a fan.
Some Pac12 conference revenue distribution numbers have come out in a WSU BOR briefing.
Sounds like full members will be receiving around $13.2m per year.
Better than many were expecting. Still not near P5 territory, but much higher than current Mountain West money, which is exactly why so many of those teams jumped to the Pac.
https://x.com/i/status/2055671239713386621
Random stuff after the 8-1 win:
-UCLA wins today making them and the Beavs the only teams to win all of their weekend series.
-Galloway up to .298, getting back in the groove?
-Offensive production coming from the last half of the lineup, again.
-FWIW, RPI just moved to 16, nike 18-but leading SC in the 6th
Dux and condoms locked in a 5-5 game T14th
Wow, b14 two outs and runner on 3rd, Oregon lays down a squeeze to win it 5-4 and that’s not good for the beavers.
Post game RPI: nike 16, Beavs 17, is that where the day started?
So Fitt said a spot in the top 20 RPI would mean the Beavs host. Can it be?? Will it change before selection??
I think the Beavs were 18 and the ducks were 17 before today. I still think the Beavs have a shot at hosting a regional bc of their pedigree and national respect, but I guess we will see.
I also thought this team was built for Omaha too before Dax got injured, but baseball is so unpredictable and the team that gets hot at the right time is the key.
I do think the Beavs end up hosting, I think the ACC gets three, big10 gets 3, SEC gets 8, Southern Miss and Oregon State.
Things to root for,
Early big10 tourney exits (Nebraska, Oregon, USC),
Wake Forest and Arkansas losing in first round of conference tournaments
Someone other than Kansas or WV win B12 tournaments.
Mercer wins conference tournament and gets into top 25 RPI, that gives us 3 more q1 wins.
The problem for OSU is 37 of the 55 games have been against quad 3 and 4 teams. 6 of the 12 losses were to those teams.
To me that screams weak schedule and frauds.
I think that gets us squeezed out unless the numbers get better in the Beavs favor via conference tournaments.
I don’t think you can count on the conference tournaments to help at this point. Sounds like they will be treated more as mid week games by the committee and a win is a bonus but a loss has less weight. I heard Fitt mention that on a podcast. We actually might get penalized for not playing in a conference tournament as an independent. You never know though I guess.
Of Ackrite’s list, I’m most interested in Mercer using their conf tourney to move from RPI 26 to 25; making the Beavs series sweep against them quad 1.
Wake losing would be nice, too.
One last thing while we wait for memorial day…..
Im unconvinced the rebuilt Pac will do OSU any favors in baseball.
There’s only gonna be 7 teams. Fresno is trash. WSU is average at best. Gonzaga, Texas St and Dallas Baptist have been fairly solid. SDSU has rebounded this year but mostly been below average.
How will they navigate only 6 conference schedule weekends? Do you play 4 game series to get 24 games? Play some conference opponents home and home?
Too many questions and not any answers at the moment.
They’ll do the same thing as these past two years. Schedule hard to start the year, then find some RPI gaining mid week games. Some conferences have an odd number of teams so Beavs will be able to fill those slots again. If the other teams follow the same philosophy, then it could be a three bid league.
OK fair point.point. But you gotta win those games.
OSU didn’t do that this year
Would agree, the losses to Southern Miss, Alabama hurt more than a weekend loss later in the year. Win those and they are flirting with a top 8 seed.
I think they can keep creating a schedule that is RPI friendly next year, with new league play added in.
Downside of this kind of scheduling, they have to win nearly 80% of the games to be a top 8 seed.
Holding steady with D1 ranking of #7. RPI at #17 and ELO ranking at #15. Let the Chaos start with the conference tournaments as we need some serious help but like mentioned above, they really dont have much weight. One loss early in a tournament is like a mid-week loss and not like a series loss. We’ll see what happens. Need at least a 13 seed to have a chance for CWS looking at the projected brackets.
BA agrees with that #7 ranking.
FWIW…
Beavs have the 4th best record in the country and one of only two teams in the country that have not lost a weekend series. Ucla is the only other team not having lost a weekend series.
Current polls for Beavs:
#6 NCBWA
#7 BA, USA Today, D1
#9 Perfect Game
Well I hope this changes as D1 has the Beavs as a 2 seed (17th overall) in Eugene with Oregon at the the 16 seed. Gonzaga is also in that as the 3 seed. Very tough bracket and your reward for advancing is more than likely UCLA. Absolute awful scenario. But at least travel would be minimal.
I don’t think they put the Beavs and the ducks on the same regional but we shall see.
Well they are called regionals for a reason. If we were still in the same conference, I would agree with you. But without that it actually makes sense. Hope not though.
Schools get sent outside their geographic region all of the time, but we shall see soon enough.
Having listened to the podcast yet, but curious reasoning and if they talk about canceling midweek for RPI benefit
Baseball america has the ducks and beavs hosting as 15 and 16 seeds.
Its close right now
I’d be surprised if the Beavs do not host. It has been a a few years since a top 10 ranked team before the tournament has not hosted a regional.
UConn in 2023 was ranked #10 by D1, did not host. But RPI was 29 pre tournament.
Oklahoma in 2022 was ranked #9 by D1, did not host. RPI was #19 pre tournament. They ended up making a run to the title series but lost.
Only real reason that they could say the Beavs would not host, is the Dax factor. They do take injuries into account in basketball but those have a much bigger impact than in baseball, even if Dax is the best pitcher in the nation.
I just read an article on ESPN that the MW and P12 have paused their legal issue to reach an out of court settlement on pouching and exit fees. The article suggested an agreement will be reached very soon.
When all this ends up as a merger I’m gonna laugh so hard.
That’s funny bc I was thinking the same thing.
Perhaps some chaos in the conference tourneys will break the Beavs way.
Just saw that two different sites are projecting the Beavs and ducks will be regional host sites.
For the dreamers amongst us, USA Today has the Beavs as the #8 host, nike sent to Florida.
In the Corvallis regional are: Tenn, NC State, and Rider.
Go Beavs!!
This is what should have happened to Michigan. A harsh punishment stops cheating.

Women’s flag football growing in NCAA…could have championship by 2028-
“For a sport to graduate from the Emerging Sports for Women program to championship status, 40 schools must sponsor it at a varsity level and meet the sport’s minimum competition and participant requirements. Since it was added to the Emerging Sports for Women program, flag football has grown leaps and bounds at the collegiate level. Nearly 20 Division I programs — including one at the Power 4 level, Nebraska — have announced their intentions to launch teams at the varsity level by 2028.
…More at the Division II and III levels — from the Atlantic East to Conference Carolinas — played full varsity seasons this year, complete with conference championship games. In 2027, the Division II CIAA and Division I Big South plan to play full varsity seasons, and the Big 12 plans to have six teams playing women’s flag football at the varsity level by 2028. ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said last week that his conference is having “some conversations” about women’s flag football.
In short, women’s flag football will easily clear the minimum NCAA sponsorship of 40 schools. Baker said that more than 60 schools across all three divisions sponsored it at the varsity level this past spring.”
Will the Lady Beavs take the field in Reser?!?
It’s only a matter of time, I know in Tennessee it’s been official TSSAA sport for the last two year with a state championship tournament.
As of this morning Mercer has moved to 25th in rpi. Improves the Beavs quad 1 numbers but no boost in rpi
I’m still very hopeful the Beavs get a regional host selection bc of their overall record, 4th best in the nation, and 1 of only 2 teams to win every weekend series. Finally, their Blueblood status on a national level doesn’t hurt them either.

Got Beavs listed as #6.
I could t find in the link where beavers are projected as #6?
WSU doesn’t want to host Beavers in Pullman Nov. 29, after thanksgiving…May try to move the game to Seattle. Beavers might win 2 games, can’t see the holiday weekend matchup drawing many into Seahawks stadium?
They would draw a pretty decent crowd in Seattle. The majority of WSU alums live in the Seattle area and the school is on break during that time so students are gone. WSU is not going to draw many fans to Pullman vs the Beavs unless both teams are really good on a holiday weekend. Add in crappy weather and it’s a recipe to move the game.
Plus for Beav fans since they wouldn’t have to travel to Pullman. Could get a decent road crowd turnout on a few hours drive north.
Hope no one shows, playing WSU twice is so dumb and should result in an empty stadium. But Seattle will draw better than Pullman.
Per Brett McMurphy, the Poinsettia Bowl is aligning its bowl with the New Pac12 champ to play against one of the former Pac12 teams that left.
If the Pac12 champ is playoffs bound, then they’d take the runner up
Considering they all think they are better than the teams in the current iteration of the Pac that’s surprising. Not to mention they are in three separate conferences at this point, with other bowl tie ins
I like the idea though
Interesting.
My take is fuck playing any of those schools. I’d be more upset if I actually cared about bowls anymore but I don’t. They’re a waste of time.
We don’t even get the Holiday Bowl? Or is that the junior partner in San Diego bowls these days? I saw that the Pac-12 is still affiliated with the Holiday. Which is now sponsored by “Trust and Will” a digital probate, and estate planning website. That bowl used to be big. SeaWorld! Pacific Life! Thrifty Car Rentals.
The Beavs have never played in a San Diego bowl game. We’re overdue.
Apparently, the beavers and Michigan are competing for the same QB,but the article was behind a paywall and the short headline provided zero details. I think Nemec was the author of the article.
I have to think the new AD is announced before graduation, right? For such a big hire, it really hasn’t received a lot of buzz.
Such an um, “interesting” year for Beaver athletics. With just a few athletes still competing in track and field and crew – and baseball of course, what do we give the athletic year in a range of 1-10? A 2? Don’t know if any team met expectations, as limited as they were. You fire and hire coaches in your two major sports, football and hoops. The hires are promising. There does seem to be stability with the new conference. But the travails of the athletic department, financial and self-owns, really doesn’t leave a lot to celebrate. A trip to Omaha could raise it to a 4, I guess.
I think Blaylock’s still in town, I kid, I kid, sort of
Nightmare for the dreamers amongst us, D1 has projected Beavs to the nike regional!
While this projection was dated yesterday, many will prefer the USA Today version posted here three days ago.
Oh yeah………FWIW !!
Same Projection as Monday, nothing changed for us. I don’t think the B12 get two teams, but WV or Kansas to losing ASAP would be a good thing. Ole Miss losing to Mizzu means they won’t jump into a hosting site, watch out for Arkansas. The top 4 Big10 teams play today losses by Nebraska, Oregon, USC would be good as well. Non RPI computers don’t like the B10. so always hope the committee relies on them more than RPI.
Coastal, S Miss, and Texas all lose today in their conference tourneys.
S miss came back and won 7-6
Crap. I thought it was a final.
Beavs now #16
Beavs back up to 16th and Oregon dropped to 17 in rpi.
Mercer also lost again and might be out of their conference tournament. Im not gonna pretend im following all of these conference tournaments.
Things are fluid and can change daily. We’ll know for sure of there’s a regional in Corvallis or not Sunday evening
Things can change daily………now Beavs are 18, nike 16.
as of 0700 pacific Saturday 5-23-26 lol
Here’s what I do know…..
Weather has impacted the B1G tournament. Oregon game vs UW got pushed out to tomorrow morning. If they beat UW tomorrow morning, theyll have to play again in a semifinal game vs Nebraska later on Saturday
The delay helps UW bc their pitching was stretched having played two games. More pressure on the ducks than Washington and as we all witnessed earlier this season, UW can’t spank whitey.
A girl at NCAA.com on there baseball area showed Beavs at #6. Other sites didn’t have them as a top 16 which I think they have a great opportunity to spank all those teams at least in first round.
Beavs back at #18 today.
Beavs are getting the Mid-Major treatment from the RPI tech goons. Kind of like keeping the any Big12 football team just outside of the top 5 for an entire season no matter the results.
The RPI is a mathematical equation and should be beyond manipulating, but is it really possible in math to see OSU just hold at 17-18 for weeks on end with so many variables and inputs from other venues around the country? I’ll suggest there are some tech guys always at the keyboards deciding the results of any RPI readout. Almost like a manual over-ride on the calculations to maintain a desired order/result.
Tin Foil Hat day for me. I’ll never be convinced there isn’t funny business with and around the SEC/ESPN connections for all 3 major men’s sports, and WBB.
Beavs now #17 and dicks at #16. USC leading ucla 1-0 B2. If USC wins, that could help OSU RPI spot.
Ducks bur I suppose they could be dicks too.
3-0 SC T3 but UCLA is 8-4 this year when trailing after 7 innings.
Rueck on what he wants in an AD:
“There’s a narrative that we want to be the premier program in the new Pac-12 and I push back on that, because that’s obvious,” Rueck said. “How can we continue to be a national athletic department and compete nationally in all sports — not just the ones that were able to go independent — all sports.
“Yeah, I want to beat Gonzaga. But I still want to be UConn. I still want to beat South Carolina. I still want to compete against them for recruits. Maybe I’m crazy, but I believe that we can. I believe the product is still here. It’s still viable. I want to partner with someone who has that same vision.”
football ticket question – I want to buys tickets for a couple games this fall. It looks like I can get tickets now through seatgeek, but then read that they don’t actually have tickets now but will get them later. Is this a good way to get tickets or is better to wait until they go on sale through the university? thanks
Heh, heh, the drama (for some) continues:
D1 now has the Beavs a 2 seed in the Fayetteville regional, nike 2 seed in Starkville.
https://d1baseball.com/stories/2026-ncaa-field-of-64-projections-may-23/
UCLA in another dramatic come from behind win trailing 5-4 with 2 outs, two on and the guy jacks a 3-run shot for the win 7-5. Wow, their 27th come from behind win this season. Now Nebby vs ducks to face UCLA so gotta root for Nebby.
Noticed UCLA walk off vs Purdue Friday involved 2 ninth inning errors by Purdue. String gonna be up for UCLA at some point.
Well, there’s historically a jinx for the hr #1 seed in the NCAA tournament as as think the last #1 seed to win the title was Miami in 1999 if I correctly remember. Eventually, the law of averages catches up to you.
I’m pretty sure when Tennessee won it a couple years back they were the #1 National Seed. But yes, National #1s don’t win it that often. The Beavs know that all too well.
You’re right as TN was only the 2nd #1 seed to win the title since 1999 and the other was Miami in 1999.
I read there are bleachers going up in left field at Goss so hosting?
Watch the hotel reservations as well. Salem will begin filling up with teams that already need to make plans for 30-40 people traveling into town if they are in the know in the athletic department, it would make sense that the facilities guys would be preparing as soon as possible with added seating.
Good catch Krol. I like the way you think on that one.
if you go to campus webcams and click on Goss Stadium you can see the playoffs only bleachers out by the bullpens. Note how they have put a digital block on the camera so that you can’t see any action on the field of play
https://webcam.oregonstate.edu/baseball#
Fitt may be put to the test, RPI now 19.
7. Oregon State
Wilner PAC football assessment:
BSU
WSU
Fresno
SDSU
Texas State
Utah State
OSU
CSU
#7 Oregon State
Last year: 2-10
Comment: No program needs a restart more than Oregon State after two seasons in the wilderness, but the opening weeks are daunting with Houston (road) and Texas Tech (home). Rookie coach JaMarcus Shephard has the energy required to revive the program, but funding will be critical to support a multiyear turnaround. Although the Beavers caught a break with the return of quarterback Maalik Murphy, the presumptive starter, their talent deficit is substantial relative to the contenders. Check back in November 2027 for an accurate progress report on the Shephard era. (Previous: 7)
https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/wsu-cougar-football/where-washington-state-cougars-sit-in-pac-12-football-projections/
“…the Beavers caught a break with the return of quarterback Maalik Murphy…”
Really?
Yeah, that’s what I thought…or the WB room is so awful he’s a “good break”
FWIW
Current D1 projections from 1-hour ago has Oregon hosting OSU #2, Tarleton #3 and Milwaukee #4.
Baseball America has Oregon hosting OSU, WSU and UTSA.
On3 has OSU going to West VA along with VA Tech and N Illinois
USA Today only projects top 16 and Oregon and OSU aren’t in the T16.
Btw, I hope they are all wrong and I think they are as OSU will host a regional.
Well, if Miiiiitch doesn’t host then he may have an early opportunity to knock nike out!
Without Dax, that will be difficult bc the ducks seem to be playing their best baseball right now.
Nah. The ducks are just playing a bunch of no name Big10 teams that don’t care about baseball. Nike only cares about baseball because they want to be one up the Beavs.
Ducks will flame out in the real postseason like they always do.
Ucla starting CF and leading HR hitter, tossed out of game for malicious contact in a rundown between home and third and hits the third baseman in the head with an elbow. He is also unavailable for their first game of their regional.
B4, 1-0 UCLA.
Check the live Goss webcam. Extra bleachers went up in the last day or so
https://webcam.oregonstate.edu/baseball#
wannabeav beat ya to it, last night.
Ducks btob HRs T6 lead UCLA 2-1.
Ducks lose 3-2 in 11 innings as UCLA loaded the bases b11 with 0 outs, Oregon gets consecutive strikeouts and then the very next hitter on the first pitch HBP for the game winner. What a horrible way to lose the game.
If the Beavs aren’t a host, going down to Duckland to kick ass is the next best option.
Would OSU be putting up extra bleachers if they didn’t know something? Did they lock it in before the bad losses? That’s probably $10k that could have been used on NIL if not.
Beavs not hosting, from the western states only UCLA and…..Oregon.
SEC=7, ACC=3, B10=3, B12=2, SunBelt=1
Six teams with less than 40 wins will host.
Fitt was mistaken, Beavs final RPI inside of 20 (barely).
https://d1baseball.com/stories/2026-ncaa-baseball-tournament-regional-hosts/
In a year where the Beavs are on the bubble for hosting, they can’t overcome powerhouses like Kansas, Nebraska or West Virginia to get a 16 seed?
OSU is in big trouble if there is no respect for the baseball team as a top 10 team getting bumped by those schools for host site. Handwriting is on the wall that it will be driven by the power 4 schools only. In no real world does Big 10 deserve 3 host sites or Big 12 deserve 2 host sites.
Maybe because OSU athletics has no leader in the AD seat to make the calls to badger these committee jokers.
Beavs have been great on the road all year but I expect they will be sent to the deep south as another jab at OSU, in spite of “travel” concerns.
Another rotten day to be a Beav, and we have had too many since the traitors destroyed the PAC.
Those midweek losses were killers late on the season.. Oh well, gotta go on the road now wherever that is ….one thing is for certain, you don’t have a shot of you don’t get into the tourney.
So do the beavers go to Eugene or back east. Hopefully, the beavers go to Eugene although as I previously commented, the ducks are playing solid baseball right now.
I honestly wouldn’t have high confidence in the Beavs’ chances of winning a regional against the Ducks, sad to say.
I dont have high confidence in this teams chances of winning any regional. Home or away.
That all went out the window when Dax was hurt.
Especially if they have to come out of the losers bracket to do it. Most of the pitching staff isnt consistently reliable.
It is what it is and they are who we thought they were. Pretty likely the season is over in a week.
Especially without Dax. Still, 43-12 with all of the key players they lost from 2025 and after starting 5-4 trying to figure out their. starting lineup they 38-8.
Use the fact they weren’t selected as a host as motivation to prove the committee wrong.
I have a feeling that nike/phil was waving around money and threats to get the regional to ugene (“You have some nice uniforms there, I’d hate to see anything happen to them”).
Just sayin’
It’s a bit interesting that they put up the temporary bleachers in left field when they aren’t hosting.
Here is the best theory for that, Beavs knew they were going to be the top 2 seed and have a great chance to match up and win the regional as well as knowing that the bracket they would match up with might also be upset in regionals since none are juggernauts besides UCLA and maybe Georgia.
Or someone from D1 Baseball has been leaking bad info to burn OSU again.
I figure they get sent to region 15 or 16 as the #2 seed.
Either Oregon, Kansas
We can technically still host a super regional if we win our regional and one of the top 8 seeds get upset.
Got to watch Kwan and Bazanna play yesterday in Philly. I think they both went 3-4 and Baz hit a homer too. Was hoping to get close enough to throw them a Go Beavs but didn’t get the chance.
Eugene it is.
Oregon vs Yale
Beavs vs WSU
So Beavs to Eugene….
Duck fans barely care about baseball it seems. Would be great to takeover the stadium with Orange and Black.
This will be a stressful one. They’ve had our number the last few seasons for some reason. Winning this regional would feel amazing, but on the other hand losing this would be hard to get over. Baseball is all we have at this point. The gloating from hole fans would be painful. Would feel a lot better if we still had Dax…
What, you are not smart enough to come up with your own name so you have to try to pass yourself off by using my name. What a puss move.
So RPI rules… allegedly.
Beavs, a Top 10 team but 17 rpi in the final NCAA official rpi. Do not get to be a regional host or top 16 seed due to low RPI. Meanwhile Kansas (RPI 18) gets a top 16 seed. Ok, I guess.
But Mercer, final RPI 28 doesn’t get in at all and a bunch of SeC/BIG12/ACC team with lower RPIs than Mercer get in. Why? Cause now it’s not RPI that matters?!?
It’s a scam.
Ah, you beat me to it.
Was Meggs on the committee?
A 44-win, 28 RPI Mercer team doesn’t make it in, while at least 8 by my count, P4 teams with lower RPI do? So RPI mattering is selective?
https://www.ncaa.com/brackets/baseball/d1/2026
Yeah and the committee laughing while they look over their updated bank accounts.
It is a complete sham from the start in every sport with SEC and now Big10 getting every opportunity to continue the narrative.
I said it a few weeks ago that the RPI is manipulated, and the justification for seeding is based on a faulty premise and circular reasoning regarding SOS, RPI and no respect for teams that SEC refuses to schedule.
As long as the fraud of RPI is set up to prop up a sub .500, 10th place SEC team into a top 25 RPI it is all cooked.
Rinse and Repeat each sport each year.
Committee is saying what are they going to do about it, just give 2 Big12 teams unwarranted host sites and leave out a few mid majors, who cares about them.
So I’d guess this is also a way to keep Yornak happy
Haven’t looked at details of the 16 locations but wonder how many sec, big 10 and acc teams can be beat. Hopefully most of them get beat. Whats espn gonna do losing most of their watchers. I hope they lose a fortune!
“The Ducks erupted during the team’s watch party at PK Park Monday morning when the Beavers were announced as the last team headed to Eugene.
Who doesn’t love that game?” Oregon third baseman Drew Smith said. “I’ve been here for four years and every time it’s a good game and chirpy and their fans are awesome, our fans are awesome. An environment like that with a lot on the line, you can’t ask for much more than that.”
Betting markets mixed, FanDuel has Beavs +4500, nike +5500 to be national champs; Bovada nike +5500, Beavs =9000; Ilani Beavs +5000, nike +5500.
Path to Omaha could have been worse, some had Beavs to UCLA, Alabama, or Miss St.
Even though it isn’t a true road game, Beavs have been 15-2 on the road and have a W in Eugene without Dax.
Overall there are reasons to see a “glass half full”
Go Beavs!
I wonder if the team will stay in their own homes or if they will get a hotel? I know for football, even for home games, the team stays in a hotel in Lebanon the night before. Does anyone know how it works for baseball? Technically not a home regional either but so close….
You scammed my name you butthole.
Bummer to not be hosting but a 16 seed and eventual date with UCLA would have been worse than what we have with playing in the 13th seed regional. Win the regional and if Texas is upset they will be hosting a super.
Sorry meant 11th seed
Yup, glass half full.
Be aware that someone has decided to use my NewPac12 so I guess that person must really admire my comments. What a Putz.
add an image so we know it is you!
Sadly I don’t see us making it out of Eugene without Dax…
Nemec has an article with the headline OSU NIL football roster value at $14.47M. It’s behind a paywall so I didn’t read it but if the $14M is accurate, that’s ~1/3rd of the NIL for the ducks roster. No wonder the beavers are struggling to keep up.
FUCK this isn’t looking good.
According to Nemec, beavers football has several silent commits that have not been officially announced. Maybe that $24M donation that was announced about one month ago is already starting to pay off.
Friday’s game against WSU is on ESPN+.
Anyone learn more about the injury to Cooper Vance last Friday? As reported by Crepa in the zero.
Word is he’s out for a long long time….
oob, I would ignore the comment about CV being out a long, long time bc I think the guy that made it is a duck fans just stirring the pot.
The information that was posted a few days ago said a leg injury but did not specify length of time he would be out.
The football rivalry between Oregon and Oregon State is resuming in September 2028.
“The Ducks and Beavers, who are not playing this fall for the first time since 1944 and are not meeting in 2027, have scheduled four games in 2028, 2029, 2031 and 2032.
OSU will host UO on September 16, 2028. Oregon will host the next two meetings on September 15, 2029 and August 30, 2031. The series will return to Reser Stadium on September 11, 2032.”
Well, in 2028 the beavers will probably be 35-40 point underdogs….I don’t think there’s a QB or linemen in the pipeline is there?
I just read the Nemec has said the beavers FB team has several silent commits that not even the beaver fans know about so that sounds like some positive news.
9.16.28 might be the first sellout in how long? Could be lots of green/yellow/white in the stands?
You all are ridiculous. The Civil War is great of the program and the state and all football fans. If we were decent you would all be singing a different tune. Maybe we will be in 2028, 2029, 2031 and 2032. Be a fan or don’t and call it a day with stupid posts.
Nope, Oregon State football could be winning national titles at a rate that would make Alabama blush and I’d still say no to playing the Ducks.
You may have missed the past several years where OSU lost most of their revenue while oregon’s grew even more than before, and now we’re playing this game for a voluntary pay day to get our asses handed to us.
Not to mention, any hopes of a G6 team making the playoffs gets dashed with each loss, so count us out in those years because OSU ain’t winning those games.
Just like all of those silent fans we had sitting in the stadium last year. I swear they were there but Beaver fans didn’t know about them.
I hope we jack those ticket prices way up and capitalize on duck fans willingness to pay. Beaver fans wouldnt bother going anyway if it were affordable.
I actually appreciate OSU giving me yet another reason to not care.
So I assume this is your last post? You will be missed….
I find it amusing how many people come to a website named “angrybeavs” and get mad that some posters on said site are actually angry.
Interviews up with Miiiitch, Segura, Hayes, Morris and others.
Some talk of Hayes at 2b if needed.
https://osubeavers.com/news/2026/5/26/baseball-meets-the-media-may-26-2026
Just read an article where MC clearly stated the Cooper Vance is day to day as opposed to, “word is he’s out for a long long time.”.
Of course he’ll say that.
ESPN has an amusing article inadvertently revealing the myopic perspective of the SEC as they are now voicing widespread consideration to fully depart from all other conferences in all sports and go out on there own and set their own rules so that the awful NIL chaos can be dealt with, in order to create an even playing field for all concerned.
Kirby Smart thinks they should do it right away, there are others who think it should happen within 5 years. All on the idea that SEC has such large national following that they would be even more popular without all of the NCAA entanglements that make it difficult
To function as an elite conference that they are.
I hope the Big10 keeps pushing for the 24 or 28 team playoff and triggers the SEC to completely overreact and try to go it alone.
Another pro league….do it! The product will continue to degrade….
Is an OSU victory over WSU assumed?
I would say no and neither is a duck win against yale a for sure outcome. On paper, they look like a sure thing but on the field is another story. Beavers and ducks better bring the “A” games or they’ll be sitting at home.
No by me. WSU has already beat OSU this year albeit it a midweek game and I think our 5th game in 5 days on the road. They can hit! Also Yale is no easy out for anyone as they have some great pitching top to bottom. Obviously the Ducks are great also especially the way they are playing the last few weeks. It is a REALLY tough regional. We have a chance of course but it would be just as tough if we were in Corvallis also. Our bats are going to need to show up in a big way for 3 or 4 days to advance which hasn’t been a given this year.
Joe Beaver podcast today – brought up the last time Yale was in Oregon -2017 – The then Yale coach had eloquently praised Luke Heimlich. ‘He could pitch in a big league game tomorrow.’ Alas, he couldn’t. A painful saga.
Kudos to Mike Parker for talking about it.
Beavs early losses and some bad mid week losses proved to be fatal to hosting. With no conf tourney, teams were able to pass them in the RPI.
Precedent has been set before for teams with resumes like the Beavs who end up not getting a host bid. They’ll need to toughen up their non conf next year in order to get a more solid RPI.
But not all is lost. There should be a significant Beaver fan presence at the games to help. I think the beavs have a pretty decent shot at advancing with their pitching and defense. Regionals are when the microcosms of the season tend to present themselves. Beavs have less warts than the rest.
Talt needs to find a good slump buster
I know a girl
https://www.mlb.com/angels/video/wade-meckler-homers-1-on-a-fly-ball-to-right-center-field-mike-trout-scor
Madrigal was called up yesterday by the Angels to join Meckler.
Lots of Beavs in the MLB right now.
FWIW
According to Nemec, the Beavs have four new incoming commitments for football.
Okay cowards, who keeps giving me thumbs down?
Pretty disappointed that the regional games are on ESPN+ but it’s better than nothing.
USA Today calls for OSU to win the Eugene regional, says:
Honestly? Shoutout to the committee for a truly hilarious regional. Oregon is probably over-seeded as a No. 11, but it is rewarded with an Oregon State team with a compelling No. 1 seed argument itself. Even without Dax Whitney, Oregon State can get out of the Pac-12 (and Yale) redux region.
Meanwhile D1 goes 10:1 for nike.
I certainly hope they are right but the ducks are playing good baseball and so is WSU.
Here’s my pick for today’s games. OSU 7 WSU 4, Oregon 12-4.
Espn is listing Beavs/WSU as airing on ESPNU
Won’t know until the other game finishes. Top of 12 right now.
It’s on ESPNNEWS right now
Let’s go Beavs! Pretty damn nervous.
Ethan looks to be settling in after a little shaky in the first inning. First game jitters I guess.
WSU has no hits but keeps getting 2 guys on. Nasty timing to be making errors after giving up two free passes. 1-1 Beavs B4
By the time I hit enter on this comment, we went 1, 2, 3 in B4 on 6 pitches. Still nervous. C’mon boys!
b7 tied at 2, Krieg gonna get another opportunity to break a tie today (unless Galloway breaks it first).
Beaver baseball fans are embarrassing and bush league heckling almost every single call. Not a good look for a national audience.
Stupid comment
Haven’t sat around home plate at home games have you? They are pretty brutal around there
We definitely have a jackass fan close to the microphone, unfortunately.
Every team has a few fans that think they have a closer view of balls and strikes than the umpire.
Lights too bright for the boys.
Not for Roblez
You’re right. He came to play. So many clutch moments all season!
I think a giant glowing toilet lid in the middle of the outfield is an abomination to any baseball field.
NikeU is so full of hubris it is nauseating.
Well, they proved the committee right.
I wasted PTO to watch that bullshit!
To think of how much education my poor students lost because we watched this game today during class. Now they will never learn how to conjugate binomials!
But can they learn how to hit a baseball?
Well, if it’s any consolation, St Marys leading 3-2 against UCLA T9 as I just turned it on and watched UCLA top reliever taken deep for a solo shot.
A couple of upsets today so that’s the thing about baseball…
As disappointing about the loss to WSU today, the pitcher was very good
Rough spot, need to win three and already worked Roblez and Queen….sure, they will pitch if needed, but effectively? Won’t matter if top of the order can’t get their bats going.
So, when does WBB start?
We’re done…without Dax it was going to be an uphill battle anyway…
Ucla goes down at home 3-2 to St Mary’s.
Man was the WSU pitcher good all day. Watched him pitch earlier this year and was very impressed then also. He’s probably the ace of this entire regional. Our rare error was very untimely and brutal and was probably the difference in this game. Clean it up and feast on weaker pitching this weekend and advance. Go Yale tonight! Want nothing more than to knock out the ducks tomorrow afternoon.
Neither one is happening
Perhaps the boys broke curfew to pursue an adult beverage and the comfort of a lady.
Ducks up big 12-2…..
Congrats duck fan.
Crazy day in college baseball.
12 upsets so far and counting.
USC losing 5-4 B9, one on one out.
USC goes down 5-4 to future pac12 member.
https://www.fantasypros.com/mlb/news/588676/nick-madrigal-collects-two-hits-season-debut-friday.php
I was not aware Madrigal was still even in the MLB. He has had such an injury filled career but maybe he will catch a break. He was truly a one of the Beav greats.
Yeah, he was back in AAA ball with Salt Lake and got called up. I think he was out a full season with injuries last year.
Is it correct that Beavs had 15-16 strikeouts ystrday. Cougs pitcher had 1?
Yes, that’s accurate. The Wazzu pitcher didn’t strike out anyone until late in the game.
Beavs up 3-0 but just left yep on base with a DP.
Left two on base hitting into DP.
Galloway has caught two attempted steals in 3 innings.
Beavs 7 hits in 3, lead 3-0.
Small ball reigns so far.
Top of the order much better today and not just because of arm being faced.
5 bunts for hits today out of 11 total hits. Mitch said before the season started to expect more small ball. Then they really didn’t. Until their backs were against the wall.
Where has this been all year? With this strengths of this team this is what they should’ve been doing all year.
Get em on, get em over and get em in.
Beavs leave 2 RISP in the t6, 7 LOB for the day so far.
Still 3-0
UCLA in a dogfight; Az State, Santa Barbara and USC winning big.
6 run 8th makes it 9-1 good guys after 8-1/2
Maybe a dumb thought….
I understand things have changed with NIL and the transfer portal. That said,
Why not send your good players to summer ball in the southeast? Learn how to play/hit in those humid conditions.
So they know what to expect in the likely event you have to play down there in the postseason?
Talk me off the ledge here
Because you’ll assure they all get poached by fall ball.
Not a good idea.
Fair. I said talk me off the ledge…..
We need transfer portal and NIL reform soon
Ucla btob solo shots in B9 to tie VA Tech 5-5. Wow
Nick Madrigal is cursed…. Hit in the hand then face by a pitch today. Left Game.
Meckler getting some help from Drew to stick in the show. Hits a 3 run shot of Rasmussen.
Beaver baseball instagram account said it was a grand slam.
even better
Nice clean game and the bats woke up and feasted off of weaker pitching. Great game. 3 more wins. Go Cougars tonight! .
U just knew it couldn’t be. I listened to the game on the Coug radio network. Pregame introduces each player in the starting line-up w the usual info and then a brief radio call of a previous game good play/hit.
“But that was the reality for No. 25 Tennessee after its 5-4 loss to fourth-seeded VCU (38-24) at Boshamer Stadium on May 30, which sent the No. 2 seeded Vols (38-22) home at the earliest possible junction after going 0-2 in the Chapel Hill Regional. It was the first time in program history Tennessee went winless in a regional.”
Looks like a rematch with WSU tomorrow as Oregon just broke it open with a 3-run shot in the T9. We might be WSU but no way we beat the ducks twice.
Why not?
I’ll agree they have the odds and are at home, but they aren’t that good. And they just have a history of finding a way to lose regionals at home.
As much as I can’t stand the ducks, I have to admit they are playing their best baseball of the year. Their pitching is solid, they play good defense, and their hitting is very good. Right now they have a lot of mojo going at the right time.
The beavers pitching is great even without Dax and the defense is outstanding too, but their hitting is just too inconsistent right now.
I’m still not quite clear when a guy like Lewis handcuffed them for a majority of the game, why they didn’t try to get him out of his rhythm by playing some small ball bc the beavers definitely know how to bunt and have some good overall team speed.
If the the beavers can get their bats going again, I suppose anything is possible, but I don’t think the odds are in their favor. I guess I’m hoping for the best, but realistically I’m expecting the worst outcome and that’s losing to the stupid ducks
It’s also interesting to see how duck fans are all in on baseball now, bur when the Beavs won the title in 2018, baseball was irrelevant to them.
Go beavers and I hope I’m wrong and they take the regional.
There’s something to be said for winning consistently and getting in a groove. But their conference has been exposed as soft. The two LA schools may still pull it out, simply because they are deep enough with talent to play extended weekends and are at home. But winning one-off games against them isn’t a hard thing to do, as has been evidenced.
Cougs go down, 4-0. Only one hit through 8, finished with 2.
nike 3 runs in the t9.
Ducks come up big, looking like a scary team.
Yes, we know that ur a duck homer so you might want to quack your way over to a duck blog.
Betting line favors both UC Santa Barbara and the Beavs by 3.5….so, still hope/possibility for Beavs to host a Super!
“College football’s new transfer portal rules could be set to see their first major challenge.
On Thursday, UCLA quarterback Karson Gordon entered the transfer portal. Though players are only permitted to enter the transfer portal during the lone January window and not after spring practice, it seems Gordon aims to take advantage of a potential loophole.
Gordon, who also runs track, is entering the portal as a track athlete per On3’s Pete Nakos. However, he still intends to play football next season at his new school.
It remains a bit unclear whether Gordon will be permitted to play football at his new school this fall, though On3’s Alex Byington reported that NCAA rules allow players to sign as two-sport athletes as long as they enter the transfer portal during an official window.
The track and field window began on Thursday and will remain open for a month”
Morris 26 pitches in the b1, look for that to improve in next innings.
Krieg now over (just) .200
Well, that didn’t age well, 29 pitches in the b2
But,3-0 good guys
Now that’s more like it, 12 pitches in the b3
Good guys up 7-0, can you spell Momentum?
We just need Beaver pitchers to work fast. No dicking around on the mound. Throw strikes. Don’t get cute.
Work fast, throw strikes for sure; but gonna need some cute-ness vs nike.
If this 8-0 lead holds for OSU, who throws against Oregon tonight?
Mendez?
Now that Morris sets isn’t it a good time to get some rest for Galloway?
Great game by Morris.
We are expecting Mendez to start tonight?
If the Beavs win, who would be starting tomorrow?
Maybe Queen? I bet he starts either tonight or tomorrow if necessary. Have to throw everyone who can tonight to get the chance to play one more
Beaver football lands commitments from Brown and White today. Could be more to come
Rumor is Pink and Yellow may be next…
blonde is out
UCLA gone.
Come from behind mojo has its limits, string wasn’t gonna last forever.
Fucla goes down…wow
Wyatt Queen starting…
The leader on the hook better be short. No margin for error
Play small ball please!!!!
Krieg in the lineup again, been making some solid contact lately. Be a good day for a dinger.
But yes, Play Small Ball Please!
Can’t count on it but nike due for some defensive errors.
It really would have sucked if this game didn’t happen. Didn’t want to jinx it earlier in the thread when the Beavs were up 5-0 on the Cougs.
Should have been safe at home according to blocking the plate rule.
I pay for effing YouTube TV and ESPN+, and ESPN wants more money for me to watch the game on their app because this stupid-ass Kansas/Arkansas game is going on forever.
Game.is NOW airing on espn2
Wyatt Queen! A queen! No light be too bright for him! A night on the town and a Broadway show! Diamonds and pearls with leggings and a dress! It matters not! He is a Queen!
Why pull Queen so early when he still has command and control?
Because we may need him tomorrow? Yeager finished off the inning.
Sall good
Two times through the nike lineup.
Doubt we see him tomorrow, 63 pitches today which is the most he’s thrown, or close to it.
Sall good.
And he threw over 40 pitches on Friday.
I hear the fat lady singing. Pathetic by the Beavs.
3 NC’s. Case closed. You won’t get one this year either. Guaranteed.
this will never sink in.
off-season NCs are their existence.
This is tough to watch. The slow murder of a once proud program by their hated rival
9 outs left and a new duck arm coming on.
This is going to be a tough way to lose. Pitching staff is imploding with walks. Make the Quacks earn something! 3-1 Quacks, 7th inning not over. Four walks in a row.
Was Roblez given enough warm up time by Rich?
Pitcher changes were stupid.Errrrrrrr
Ironic to watch the 2 best bullpen arms unable to throw strikes in the biggest moments of the season.
Maybe the ducks relax now that they have a nice lead.
Beavs bats need to come alive anytime now…
Along with replacing all the arms they’re losing, the Beavs NEED to focus heavily on offensive firepower. This team just doesn’t have the bats to overcome anything but near perfect pitching against good teams.
Sounds a lot like the pre-season analysis.
Pretty much.
Just can’t get one big hit
What a rock is Galloway; 18 innings today and throws out an attempted steal to close out the t9.
Damn…Beavs lose by a hair. Post season cut short.
Game was closer than the score indicates. Lots of strong pitching from both sides (except for the t7).
Ugh. Hook ’em Horns.
The standard for this program is always Omaha, so obviously a disappointing year. Need to get better. The best Beavs teams always played a little pissed off. This team never seemed that pissed off.
Miiiiiitch don’t get pissed off.
Even if the Beavs would have won today, I’m pretty certain Oregon would have won tomorrow. The ducks just got hot at the right time and the Beavs fell flat after Dax’s injury. Beavs still finished 45-14:but I sure would have liked to see how they finished with Dax instead of without him.
The ducks have a solid club and play all aspects of the game well.. They do rely on the long ball with 104 HRs on the season and Omaha isn’t really known for being a hitter friendly park, but first thing first and that’s Texas in the road. The ducks played about 7-8 more games or more at home and they weren’t as good on the road but that was then and this is now.
I can’t root for the backstabbers no way or no how so go Texas. OSU loses a lot from this s team but they have some high caliber guys coming in and you know they will hit the portal hard.
Good season but disappointing ending as in no happy ending for this GI.
Pretty much exactly what they looked like on opening weekend afterall.
Dax wasn’t going to score runs…and the bullpen let him down several times this year, so his presence didn’t actually guarantee anything beyond an excellent 7 innings which is what we saw for the weekend out of the starters. The top of the order was fairly quiet, as it was early in the year and for many midweek games. Harbingers of things that were coming for postseason disappointment.
Perhaps Mitch figures out how to embrace small ball and moves away from old habits and home-runs. Perhaps Dorman can figure out how to build a staff of guys who don’t give up free passes in key situations.
It does feel like losing to the ducks is a gut punch set up by the committee to make it more difficult on the Beavs. I am pleased with the season overall, but there were glaring flaws all year that it seemed like the staff never really could admit it and it caught up to them.
Tough game but was kind of the entire season in one night. Excellent starting pitching and just couldn’t string a couple big hits together at the right time. Oregon looks decent and a fairly complete team. Thankfully I think they’ll have a really tough time in Texas. Never thought I’d root for Texas in any sport but I’m doing it.
Also very happy to see UCLA be out and not even make the regional final.
I hope our prized recruits sign and don’t opt for the draft.
Disappointed the had teams playing 3 games one day after losing their first game.??? If the Beavs won Sunday night they would have had to play on Monday – correct? Or would they had to play game 4 in one day. Pretty dumb scheduling for the rebounding teams to play 3 games in one day.
Pretty standard procedure for double elim.
Most Beavs would have played was: 1 Friday, 1 Sat, 2 Sunday, 1 Monday.
Been that way a long time, that’s why it’s important to stay out of the losers bracket; keep winning and it’s only 3 games in 3 days.
Quite literally how it’s always been scheduled, it’s the earned advantage you get by winning game 1 and 2. Completely fair.
*earned
lol
How is it not an “earned” advantage?
Well, it sucks, But objectively, the Beavers baseball team has 3 NCs. The Ducks none.
On to private equity!
“Utah needed money, Otro Capital offered a mirage of an oasis to a parched program, and the next thing you know, the university is $500 million to the good — and still firing employees.
…half a billion seems like enough cash to keep everyone employed.
In an email sent to athletic department employees and obtained by the Salt Lake Tribune, Utah athletic director Mark Harlan described the firings as — are you ready for this? — “impacted employees” of an “unsettling process” during their “transition.”
Then came the official response from an athletic department spokesperson, and it wasn’t much better.
“In preparation for the growth of Crimson Brand Partners, the university has begun the process of transitioning select units of some university operations to the new company. The first step of that process requires the discontinuation of the individual positions in those units through a reduction in force (RIF), to be followed by CBP’s hiring process.”
…
The university will retain a majority ownership of CBP (estimated at 66%) commercial operations, including but not limited to ticketing, licensing, NIL sales and sponsorships. Otro gets an estimated 33%.
The only way this thing works is if — and it’s big IF — Utah makes a boatload of cash in a college sports environment currently drowning in the deep end of inflation. A college landscape, mind you, that changes by the month and is wildly unstable.”
Did folks even watch the game? Or just tune in late? I see a comment about small ball and how Mitch “hasn’t” embraced it. They led off the game with a freaking drag bunt.
In reality, that out at home plate early was a bigger deal than it seemed as the pitching duel that followed allowed for not many runs in the game. The beavs easily could have kept that inning going and the pressure was going to get tougher.
This team is well coached and it showed. Literally had one bad inning and still only gave up three in that inning.
The Beavs will be back, just how it goes in baseball sometimes.
Reading comments from beav fans that were at the ballpark last night to watch the Beavs and ducks and several commented how rude and obnoxious some fuck game were behaving. That’s to be expected when you have a bunch of pot smoking, toothless hillbilly fans that are just bandwagon fans when it comes to real baseball fans.
GO TEXAS!
……duck fans were behaving….
QUACK!! QUACK QUACK!!!!
Poor little Beavis, at least you still have… NOTHING!!!
Haha, now you don’t even have baseball. Just fold the athletics program little brother.
The Ducks also have nothing.
Weird troll.
Well, you’ve always got those NASCAR type championships aka track. Lol. Meanwhile, the Beavs have 3 national titles in a real team sport. Go Texas!
You talk a lot for a fan of a program that has won…wait for it… Zero national championships in baseball. I say again… Zero…
Is Dax gonna rehab next year with the team? Pitching probably out of the question in 2027? Anyone seen an article trying to answer the questions?
Also wonder how the NiL works? Does he get money next year while rehabbing? I assume he was making good money this year. Also I am not super tuned into the MLB does he need to come back senior year to prove it or is he a top 10 pick next year without another inning pitched?
Coming back for his senior year will hurt his draft leverage. The way the MLB draft works makes it better to be drafted as a Junior even if it’s later.
Seniors get drafted all the time. If they are great, MLB teams like the extra experience and extra year of maturity. They often get fast tracked through the farm system because of age, experience, maturity and development. But Dax won’t be back to play for OSU when his year rehab is complete. He would have likely been the #1 pick next year. Will still be a likely top 10 pick and a much lower slot value.
Where did I claim seniors don’t get drafted?
I’m talking about the thing you just conceded, slot value.
He’s gonna be seen as someone a team can lowball if he stays through his Senior year. Thanks for confirming exactly what I said!
Relax. Perhaps he was also answering the prior question in his own way, rather than arguing with you.
Settle down Francis. I was talking to the other poster. Dax lost a lot of leverage with the TJ injury. He will get drafted high but they will still lowball more than likely because of the unknown now and everyone comes back different. Some times with harder stuff and sometimes with less control and scared to throw hard. He will have a much lower slot because every team will know he hasn’t pitched in a over a year, is coming off a major injury and probably wants to get into the professional ranks ASAP.
Rick Alleman passed:
“Adelman led the Trail Blazers, who featured star players like Clyde Drexler and Terry Porter, to two NBA Finals appearances, in 1990 and 1992.”
Only 9 of 16 regional hosts advance. Who doesn’t love seeing the likes of Troy, Cal Poly, St John’s etc advance. Gotta love college baseball when anything can happen on a weekend. Makes what we did by not losing a weekend series all season more impressive. Wish it would have stayed active for a couple more weeks.
Also all 8 teams from last years CWS Omaha group are already sitting at home.
That kind of competitive opportunity needs to be facilitated in college football, basketball (men and women). Would be so much more interesting….
From the Salem paper in a positive close of the season piece:
At the conclusion of the Beavers’ season, OSU’s combined pitching staff recorded the best earned-run average of any team in the nation. Oregon State’s 3.22 ERA through 534 innings is atop the leaderboard and the unit’s 216 total runs allowed is the third lowest.
Oregon State’s throwers also allowed the least hits per nine innings (6.94), the second-best strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.55) and third-highest strikeouts per nine innings (11.8).
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/articles/oregon-state-baseball-wraps-incredible-175548792.html
Dorman did a really good job this year. I’m still going to complain about the walks and hbp.
Essentially will lose every impact pitcher except for Morris. Will need remaining guys to really step up and the coaches will need to find a lot of help in the transfer portal.
“Im still going to complain about the walks and hbp”
Think i speak for most of us when I say that is the main gripe.
That’s the thing. Many complain but we were still top 15 in walks per nine innings. I don’t get what Dorman has to do to get respect from ya’ll. Literally the best pitching staff in the country and he happens to be the pitching coach of that staff.
Best ERA in the country, leads the nation in strikeouts, top 15 in walks. They are the premier pitching program in the entire country lol.
Unfortunately, on the flip side, I just read that this was the worst-hitting team of the past 25 years. No player topped 10 home runs, and only one regular (Galloway) hit over .300.
Freshman LHP from Lakeridge HS in the portal.
https://x.com/CalvinGregory30/status/2061615963460776233?s=20
I was just about to post a comment about who might hit the portal for OSU. I’m guessing we will see a few bit hopefully no high impact players.
I’m a little surprised he’d transfer with so many JR/SR pitchers graduating/going to get drafted. He’d have ample opportunity to get a lot of innings next season. Being an in-state kid, I can’t help but wonder if he saw the atmosphere in Eugene this weekend and is planning to join the Ducks? I hope not.
Eugene had a good atmosphere? Won’t during regular season, particularly compared to Goss.
I didn’t watch any Oregon games outside of playing OSU during the regular season, so I can’t say what PK Park was like then, but admittedly, the UO fans were “into it” and packed the stands during the regional final.
The Beavs are getting a great player, Teagan Scott, Gatorade POTY in Oregon and a great catcher too. His offensive are solid too.
Teagan Scott becomes the first-ever player from Salem to win the Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year award! Scott hit .568 / .694 / 1.203 with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 11 HR, 35 RBI, 46 R, 30 BB, 7 SO, and 22 SB while catching 167 innings, throwing out 32% of base stealers, and backpicking six more.
PRESS RELEASE:
In its 41st year celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Teagan Scott of South Salem High School is the 2025-26 Gatorade Oregon Baseball Player of the Year. Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high school sports, celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes for their excellence in sport, academics and community. The award recognizes Scott as Oregon’s best high school baseball player and he joins an elite legacy that spans professional athletes and coaches to CEOs, such as Clayton Kershaw (200506, Highland Park, TX), MacKenzie Gore (2016-17, Whiteville High School, NC) and Seth Hernandez (2024-25, Corona High School, CA).
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound senior catcher led the Saxons to a 19-9 record and a berth in the 6A state tournament this past season. Ranked as the nation’s No. 214 prospect in his class by Perfect Game, he also participated in USA Baseball’s 2024 16U/17U National Team Development Program and played for the 2023 USA Baseball U15 National Team.
An avid game hunter, Scott has volunteered locally with South Salem’s Unified Program, which pairs youth athletes with intellectually challenged peers in celebration of sport. He has also donated his time as a youth baseball instructor. “Scott is among the top-five baseball players I’ve seen or coached against in 25 years in the dugout,” said Luke Buchheit, head coach of Sprague High School. “He’s the best hitter on the field, he’s the fastest player on the field and he’s the most knowledgeable on the field. His baseball IQ is incredible. He’s basically a coach on the field and has been for four years. If I were starting a team, he would be the first guy I would draft.”
Scott has maintained a 3.91 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a written letter of athletic aid to play baseball at Oregon State University this fall.
Another Left handed pitcher entering transfer portal. Southpaw Max Fraser, who did not pitch for the Beavers this season, announced he was entering the transfer portal on Monday. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Oregon State men’s golf has its first freshman All-American in program history: Nguyen Anh Minh was one of the five freshman All-Americans named by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Former Oregon State offensive lineman Andy Levitre is on his first ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. He is among 80 players from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 99 players from the divisional and NAIA ranks on this year’s ballot,
…2008 AFCA first team All-American and second team selection by the AP, three-time all-Pac-12 honoree. The Beavers made three bowl appearances and had three top 25 finishes during his career.
He warned that without a federal law, college football could be heading toward becoming a mini-NFL where only a few high-spending schools can compete. That’s the AD for Notre Dame speaking at the Senate Commerce Committee hearing on the Protect College Sports Act. Teresa Gould apparently spoke as well.
Surprise, surprise, B1G and SEC “do not support the act as drafted”
The Act would allow the NCAA to limit transfers and eligibility, enforce a spending cap, give conferences the option to pool their television rights and prevent coaches from leaving their teams before the end of the season. It also includes language to prevent a possible breakaway “super league” by the Big Ten and SEC.
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/articles/nick-saban-lends-support-senate-163107531.html
It will be an interesting turn of event if the Big10 and SEC actually decide to split out the football programs and become their own miniNFL league. I honestly think it would create a great resetting of the landscape with a lot of teams rejoicing that the arms race has halted to some degree.
It is pretty foolish to think that every team represented within those conferences would actually be asked to join such an endeavor. How many of the current 32 universities would be part of such a move? I don’t think they would let more than the top 20 brands join. SO which schools would be kicked to the curb?
We would see the schools from the ACC, Big12, Pac12, MWC, American etc all gather and wait to see the fallout.
Just based on football brand alone, it is easy to start picking off the teams that won’t be asked to join:
Purdue
Iowa
Northwestern
Illinois
Maryland
Rutgers
Minnesota
UCLA
Washington
Indiana
Vanderbilt
Miss St
South Carolina
Missouri
Arkansas
Kentucky
That is 15 schools that are no closer to a title than OSU, and have very little to contribute if they are trying to make some new national appeal league. I’d guess they think that lumping the 16-20 biggest brands will be good enough to justify the gamble. And the rest will be sent packing into the lesser world of the rest of college sports.
So they will gamble that a “super league” of these teams ( probably 3-4 are interchangeable with the group above as in or out) will be as good as NFL games/viewership:
Ohio St
Michigan
Penn St
Nebraska
USC
Oregon
Wisconsin
Alabama
Auburn
LSU
FLorida
Tennessee
Georgia
Oklahoma
Texas
Texas A&M
Wild cards- Notre Dame, Miami, Florida St, Clemson and maybe Texas Tech
How good would it be for everyone else if these teams just left the rest alone and let there be actual conferences with genuine competition, normal scheduling, regional rivalries, and a true appeal to legitimate competitiveness instead of everything being somewhat rigged by ESPN. It would be nice if the outcome of any legislation meant that ESPN could no longer hold exclusive rights to every collegiate post season tournament.
If SEC and BIG10 purposely gutted themselves of their biggest brands to chase more money, it would be the best thing for all other schools left behind. I think those programs might find themselves becoming less and less popular after destroying what is left of collegiate competition and sportsmanship.
Why is Wisconsin in and UW out? I would think UW might make it for footprint, viewing market…probably have Miami or FSU for similar reasons? Nebraska sucks, and isn’t a legitimate contender….just propped up annually by pundits.
I hope it happens as you suggest, and a reasonable PAC is reformed.
Maybe even academics will matter….
UW would be in if it were 20
I’d argue that 20 is too many though.
I’d do Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Texas.
Play 14 games (everyone twice) plus a national title game (maybe top 4 playoff) for a total of 15-16 games.
A network would pay so much for this. Most other schools just reduce the per school value.
Probably need 12, two “conferences,” top 4 playoff? The SE is football crazy, maybe add:
Florida or FSU or Miami
Tennessee
Oklahoma
Texas A&M
Sure, it is like decisions who is the last bubble team into the NCAA tournament. Everyone knows the bubble teams are just there to get pummeled. Same with UW, Wisconsin, Auburn, Nebraska and several more. They are all the unwitting bottom dwellers that would be just myopic enough to think they belong to such a group.
Many of those schools have feasted on the bottom dwellers for decades and don’t realize that someone needs to be the bottom dwellers in this scenario too.
Good point. Don’t want TOO much competition.
Tell me if you had this on your bingo card,
Meckler batting third, protecting Mike Trout.
Meckler has been making it look pretty easy so far. Insane stats and he has made himself a fixture in the middle of the line-up. Crazy to see so many Beavs all of a sudden in MLB and all doing pretty good.
Hopefully recruits are noticing….
New Athletic Director and Vice President announced! Kevin Griffin from Ohio State. Looks great on paper as he sounds all for the teams and players. Also sounds like a speciality is generating revenue. Time will tell but has to be a step up. I’m just happy Murthy didn’t hire a recycled old AD who’s been sitting on his couch for a few years or some FCS AD. Sounds like a bit of an outside the box hire who might look at things differently. We need newness and an innovative thinker. Only concern is he came from Ohio State and that is also his Alma Mater. Hopefully the Ohio State AD doesn’t leave in a year or two and he moves back.
Ie Don’t be a Stansbury Part Deux
This is another encouraging hire to me in that it is not recycling past Beavers….much of it LOOKS promising on the surface (Shepard, MBB coach, Rueck, Canham making post seasons….) if they can bring in resources they can eventually compete.
Hope Rueck liked this hire, he’s expressed high standards for the position.
Rueck and all the major coaches were on the hiring committee so hopefully they all signed off on Griffin. We will probably never know though as I’m sure they will all say its the perfect hire if asked publicly. If Scott or Mitch leave this off-season or next, then we will know.
Well, at least the AD, MBB coach, football coach will all be on the same page at O(Old) S(Steppingstone) U(University).
I’d guess that any of the 3 leave before Rueck or Canham for greener pastures. Hopefully after successful runs, but one could expect they are only here to build a resume.
Not to state the obvious but can’t skip hiring quality people for fear that they will leave.
In case you care, Oram’s piece on the new AD is on Yahoo without a paywall:
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/articles/oregon-state-ad-big-mess-211821008.html
Oram sounds like some of the posters here! I do think it says something about Oregon State that it seems to be viewed more positively farther away than it does here in Oregon. Maybe it’s just the impact of the downturn and the de-conferencing, but unless it comes out in the next few weeks or months that some of the recent hires were being pushed out of their recent positions (like the hire for President a few years back), I think people should be optimistic. It isn’t just the resumes they bring with them, but the networks of people they’ve worked with over the years that should pay dividends.
I really thought Glassco would be a big piece for next year’s team.
https://x.com/Bryson_Glassco/status/2062661683613769848?s=20
C Ryan VandenBrink in the portal as well.
https://x.com/VandenbrinkRyan/status/2062666024827371796?s=20
Most of these decisions have been made well before the end of the season. Have to imagine the coaching staff have contacted guys in the portal already.
Vandenbrink leaving means there are no returning catchers.
Assuming a few more transfers, looking at replacing 11 seniors, 3 jrs to the draft, 4 transfers announced and Bellerose. Total of about 20-22 new guys coming in next year.
12 incoming freshman which list 4 guys as catchers. So expect 8-10 transfers in. Likely to be mostly pitchers.
On paper, the recent hires have been pretty good. If they do well, yes they will leave and that’s fine.
