The comeback from a lackluster defeat is gonna tell a lot. Will Shep’s “reset for 6 seconds on every play” set the stage for a legit run to the PAC championship game?  Vegas says Beavs by 5.5, down from 8.5.

7:30 start, rain likely, KRCW TV over the air at 32.1 as well as Comcast, Zipley, and others.

GO BEAVS!!

“Short Little Jesse” gonna continue setting an example of grit for, among others, Rueck’s little crew?  ‘Too short’ just words?

  1. Just out of curiousity i checked todays national scoreboard jist now. I see #7 Texas is down vs #18 Missouri.

How is any 2 loss team considered #7.(with losses to 2 unranked teams at that)
The circle jerk of NCAA football rankings never changes.

      1

But they’ve been keeping a Missouri team ranked for just this occasion, even if they lose again, it was to another SEC titan, so a good loss of course

  2. Did anyone ever do the math on the flex weekend? I could be wrong (napkins), but I see no way for there to actually be a flex schedule without the Pac breaking its own rules on not sending a team to a road game it has already played this season. Every team also has to get 4 home games even though the flex game is considered non conference and doesnt count in the standings….

OSU road possibilities at WSU or at USU

Boise at USU only (this eliminates OSU from even going to Logan despite playing them at home the previous week)

Boise will have played at Fresno, CSU and WSU. So there are no other possibilities. This locks in the other matchups.

The 4 designated home teams are….USU, CSU, Fresno and WSU.

Texas St has 3 possible road opponents in WSU, CSU and Fresno. Since Boise can’t go anywhere but USU that eliminates them. At that point OSU must travel to WSU so that eliminates that possibility. CSU is all that remains as the only possible opponent.

The Pac painted the flex weekend into a corner by their own rules and we didnt even know it????

Am i on Crack here? Someone else check my math please.

    • You are on the right track. When the OAC12 sold it as a flex game, it gave fans the idea that it would be a flexible schedule among the 8 schools but it is the opposite. It should be called a prescheduled, unannounced game.

      • I don’t know if it was just to fill the slot, but a couple of preseason magazines I read had Wazzu listed as the flex game back in July.

      • It’s almost like Flex week is a shitty idea, almost.

But yes, if the PAC were a serious conference OSU would go to Fresno again that week.

    • There could be flex games but the way things played out this year, no.

Say WSU and OSU were the top 2 teams in the conference. The PAC12 would change the game so that there wouldn’t meet a second time in the reg season and then play again in the conf title game.

The rule about not going on the road to the same place twice is not a hard rule. Just a strong preference.

The conference does need two more teams to stop the flex game and get to 9 conf games. But for now, this is what it is

  3. UCLA and Utah won…Ohio State leading UO 14-3 in QTR2. AND Ohio state gives up 30 yards on a 4th and 9…UO was in their own 31.

  4. Today’s game is all about the defense. That was a really poor performance in Fresno. Not sure if there is enough talent to bounce back.

  5. Texas State best writer:

“Yum: “Texas State will attempt to lean on the run after two straight pass-heavy games. It’s in the Bobcats’ best interest to keep Beavers quarterback Braden Atkinson and wide receiver Jesse Legree off the field for as long as possible. The OSU offense will put up numbers, but Texas State wins in a close, high-scoring game, 42-39.”

  6. Looks like Smith even with playing today and Legree yet to play is in 2nd place by 140ish yards. Nice if #12 can go off and put up big number in tonight’s track meet, rain be damned

    • Yup, Smith didn’t look happy even with being targeted 10 times and credited for 133 receiving yds.
He did, however, show hands on the same level as Jesse. Those two are head and shoulders above the crowd.

  7. It is funny how the narrative is the parity of the SEC to explain all of the conference losses for their preferred brands.

Since the SEC now has a 9 game conference schedule, they can’t hide in November. Every team has flaws and we are supposed to believe the age old propaganda for how talented the SeC is this year. The qb play is subpar for every contender.

It’s too bad that the same narratives were never applied to the old PAC12. There are so many former PAC12 qbs in the NFL but it was never acknowledged in those years how difficult it was to win the conference.

    Oh well.
    Go Beavs.
Looking for a nice bounce back win but I am nervous about how good Texas St offense has been.
    Hoping in the Beavs. 45-35

  8. Fresno looking nothing like they did last weekend. They still have to visit San Marcos, but would be nice for USU to pin a 3rd conference loss on them tonight.

    • Don’t stress it, the Beavs are flat again and have given up a touchdown on a 15 play drive and then go 3 & out on offense. Not a good start, and you are better off missing it.

  9. Well it was a fun start to the year. It is pretty obvious they are needing more line talent to actually be a dominant team in this new era. Oh well. I’ll lower all expectations and just be pleasantly surprised if they make a decent showing instead of being upset when they play like garbage.

It is too bad that Legree got his NIL deal done 2 weeks ago and then Atkinson got his figured out this week. so we are being sibjecte dot a couple of guys who are distracted and not able to focus.

    • This is Anderpants-era defense right now. That 3rd-and-9 was atrocious. Who had the RB? Atkinson had a receiver wide open in the flat and forced that stutter and go into double coverage.

  10. Now that Texas St is uup by 14, we hope for them to relax and not be quite as sharp, right?

The Beavs don’t look remotely like they did for the first 7 games. Kind of sad actually.

  11. That looked better, but just very little hope of the defense getting stops. Maybe hope for Jackson to make more poor decisions.

  12. Looks like Crandall came to play. Even though he gave up a first down there it was the kind of open field tackle often missed.

UPDATE: then Crandall blocks the FG attempt.

  13. Good Lord, that coverage wasn’t even remotely competitive, and there was zero pressure on the QB on a slow-developing play. Sheppard better focus on upgrading the secondary next year.

This does not even look like the same team. I mean these guys were competitive against Houston and Texas Tech. This 100% looks like Gary Anderson football.

    • It is injuries and not having depth? Houston and Texas Tech are Top 25-caliber teams, and the Beavs were competitive on both sides of the ball. I don’t like this regression.

  15. I thought TS might have a hangover patters narrow, late loss to BSU, back to Texas, then to Corvallis, but they’re getting drunk on that Beaver Juice, which lacks Vitamin D….

  16. How the eff are receivers not getting open against one of the worst pass defenses in the country? The staff seems to be getting outcoached again.

  17. 1

Remember that coach Shep said before the season started that there would be some adversity this season and it appears to be here.

    • Fuck adversity; those were the first two competitive losses against Power 4 teams. Regression with this schedule is not acceptable!

      • Lack of tape on Beavs offense. See above response. Play those games again later in the season and the Beavs probably get destroyed

  18. What a shitty third down playcall. Low percentage to the endzone instead of just picking up the first down. And now they turn it over on downs of course, FUCK!

  19. Looked like there was a spy on that last qb run and still couldn’t stop them. Im thinking its the latter on my last post

  20. Dropping by BEFORE the loss this week to mix things up a little – Looks like it’s gonna be a scrap against Utah State for bowl eligibility… is what I was gonna say, but I think it’s more likely Beavs upset Boise State next game for their final win of the season to tank the Pac-12’s playoff and payoff chances, because that just seems right somehow. I miss when I thought the team was good ? On the plus side, more players stick around, maybe can build for Next Year (TM)

  21. Why after 50 years have I still allowed myself to get excited and brimming with hope only to be crushed in disappointment yet again, what is wrong with me!

It’s the new version of Lucy yoinking the football from Charlie Brown! Riley is watching somewhere and smiling that the tradition continues :)
I miss the Riley days (some of them, don’t hit me)

  22. To add insult to current injury (mood) Utah St currently holding the vaunted Fresno offense the Beavs couldn’t stop a week ago to 3 points. USU 17-3 with 4 minutes left

    • Utah St won 17-10. Now I’m starting to wonder where the sixth win is coming from. Even Wazzu outplayed the Beavs in the second half.

  23. They showed a shot of Shepard; he looked very frustrated. I wonder if it was the play calling or the execution. Texas St. is not missing any tackles. Note to Dahlen: stop with that stupid screen; it’s not working for whatever reason(s). I hope I’m wrong, but his game feels over.

  24. From the penthouse to the outhouse in 7 days. Went from the most fun offense in CFB to just another run of the mill G6 team.

    Luck O da Beavs

  25. I just don’t understand. This is one of the worst pass defenses in the country, and it’s like they know the play before it happens. The Beaver receivers are getting zero separation.

  26. This is just ugly. We surprised some teams early in the season and happen to get lucky that those early teams were horrible defensive teams. This game is over in the 3rd quarter down 21. Boise State on the road won’t be much of a game either. I see 1 maybe 2 wins left on the schedule if we play WSU in the flex week. But that will also be a road game. Not that we are lights out at home right now. I guess before the season stated, 6 wins weird have sounded really good. Trying to remember and tell myself this is only year one of the Shephard era after what might have been the worst year ever last year. Hard though as this just isn’t good football right now.

    • Beavs can still beat USU and WSU. I am confident of that.

Boise? Gonna be a bloodbath. Won’t matter who is at QB. Boise can just hand the ball off every time amd they’d win going away

  27. Wow. Nice pass Murphy. 2 weeks in a row very little has gone right.

Despite the fact these players need to look in the mirror? This coaching staff also does.

Im only still watching because this is more the norm for many of us.

  28. 1. I hate the fact I drank so much Kool-Aid
    2. Dahlen has been exposed.
    3. McIntyre and our smaller defense sucks. Badly.
    4. Silver lining? I can make as many plans I want for the rest of the season and not worry about caring.
    5. Our basketball team looks competent so far, so that could get a pleasant diversion.

  29. How in God’s name is this the same team driving in the 4th Quarter to take the lead against Texas Tech? They almost looked like Power 4 athletes in that game. Have they lost that many players to injury?

    • Nobody had much if any game film on OSU to figure how to scheme them. 9 games into the season,v there is plenty of film on them.

    • Litany of reasons. But ultimately they smelled their own farts, thought they didn’t stink. Then took a proverbial, massive dump disgusting everyone in the near vicinity of the bathroom.

And if you thought the farts smelled like roses?

      Jokes on you.

      Guilty.

Its year 1 and this team still has serious flaws.

Let’s not forget that Shep predicted there would be adversity this season and he was right. Here we are but I still think the beavers get 6 wins in the regular season and that’s about 4 more W’s than I thought

  31. Dahlen’s inability to adjust at all is baffling. He needs to learn how to counter what the defense is doing. He calls the game far too pass heavy when it’s not working well. They have to incorporate the run game into the offense early enough before it becomes a blowout and all they can do is pass.

Atkinson seems to also be at fault for not adjusting well. He took off and ran a lil which was nice to see. But he was inaccurate at times and missed reads to some wide open receivers.

What happened to our WR blocking on screens? They just seem to be getting blown up. Texas state was able to do them successfully tho.

Consider this….TXST had 7 returning starters on offense from their 2025 roster and only 4 starters returning on defense from 2025 so no wonder they have such an explosive offense against a relatively undermanned beaver team. There’s no substitute for talent, experience and size.

Remember that it took traitor Smith 4 years to get the program competitive and that was before the NIL exploded. It is much tougher today than it was in 2018 or so.

      • 3
        2

Offensively they are a juggernaut but not so much defensively with only 4 returning starters. What many games are failing to recognize is that when the season started, there was no film on OSU offensively or defensively, and going into tonight’s game there was 8 game films to study and analyze. It’s very obvious the last two games that FAU and TX State did their homework and had the personnel to execute their schemes to stop OSU. OSU is still under manned, under sized and limited in quality talent across the board in many respects and that is starting to expose the beavers weaknesses. Coach Shep said there would be adversity before the season started bc he knew what he had and didn’t have to work with. That said, they still have 3 more wins than most people thought they’d have at this point and will likely end up 6-6 on the season with a low tier bowl game and that would be a successful first year given where the beavers have been since the pac12 died after 2023.

  33. Rough night for the Beavs but there are some silver linings:
    Roster poaching is less likely
    Staff poaching is less likely
    Sell recruits/transfers on playing time
Beavs had a lot of national attention for a few weeks.

I guess we all got over our skis on Heisman and CFP talk but it was a fun 7 weeks to begin the year.

I’m not going to be too hard on the staff at this point. Coach McIntyre is the most experienced and I’d guess he is getting as much as he can out of the defensive side.
The rest of the staff is facing a fairly steep learning curve and roster challenges in year 1.
Sadly these types of letdowns happen almost yearly as a Beavs fan. When it happened with Riley in the later years of Riley 2.0 it was maddening, but this is more hopeful and part of the growing pins for a new era. I’m hopeful and not crestfallen over it.
Sports can help us dream big and that is what Shep gave us all for a few weeks. I can appreciate it for why it was. Now it becomes more obvious that there is a lot of work to be done before OSU can really be the big fish in the little pond.

  34. We have come back down to earth. We knew this roster wasn’t the deepest. I think we are seeing the limitations. Still gotta finish strong. 3 more games on the schedule. Win as many as possible.
