There are few teams as inept, offensively, as the Beavers, but luckily for them the Huskies are one of them, actually averaging fewer runs per game (5.53 vs 5.64) than the Beavs. With the Beavers pitching staff yielding 1.25 fewer runs per game than the Huskies you have to like this match up.
Additionally, Washington comes in having lost 3 straight. The one caveat is that they are a better road (15-9) team than home team (10-13).
With an RPI of 31, the Beavers will have a legitimate bubble argument if they can sweep the Huskies, near .500, and then split the rest of the way. After all, the Pac-10 is virtually deadlocked with the SEC as the toughest conference in the nation.
The Beavs new-found confidence should propel them through the weekend. Expect a minimum of two wins with the sweep on the table come Sunday. Some are talking about signs of life on offense after a few good games by Jared Norris. Forget that talk. These hitters are what we think they are. If the series is to be won it will be done from the mound.
Prediction: Beavs take all three.
Peavy tosses another painfully average game. Pitching staff as a whole failed last night, but Washington’s starting pitching is so bad that the Beavers can win a game in this manner.
Pretty awesome Washington has a pitcher named “Guidos”.
Just a down appearance for Boyd or the start of a slide? Waldron looked decent in getting the last two strikeouts.
Boyd’s line is 2 innings and 0 runs.
Did I miss something? I thought he got some big outs.
Oh, I gotcha, loading the bases in the 9th. That was bad, but he’s been pretty darn good overall. He got some huge outs in the Oregon series and did pitch well in the 7th and 8th tonight.
Good job of coaching again, Pat Casey. First by putting Craig Sitton in a tied game and then by leaving him in once he loaded the bases with his erratic rag arm.
Yet last week he wouldn’t take Sam G out of a game where he gave up 7 runs in an inning.
Stranger than fiction.
No sweep for You!
Nice one. That’s like the soup nazi yeah?
“Expect a minimum of two wins with the sweep on the table come Sunday.”
Not exactly a bad prediction.
Is if fair to begin criticizing the hell out of Casey? I thought the guy was a genius heading into the year, but I didn’t scrutinize him as much since I wasn’t writing this blog. Now that I’m paying attention…wow. A lot of head-scratchers.
You were damn good on this one, but nasty loss yesterday. They cannot lose to Seattle. They need to pad the win total to get over 30 quickly.
Agreed, they need to take these two from Seattle because with only one off day they’re going to be exhausted after the trip to Tempe–that is sure a sweep waiting to happen.
They’ll have to win the remaining 4 pac-10 games to finish the season to have a chance. Basically, finish 6-3 with the 3 loses to ASU and I think they’re in.
Nice to see the Beavs manhandling Seattle.
