Today in my inbox I found a note from my Santa Barbara connection who told me three things:
1. Malcolm Agnew has given a silent verbal to the Beavs.
2. Dylan Wynn and Blake Renaud are split on whether or not to be Beavers together. The story goes like this: Wynn is willing to commit, but Renaud preferred Boise State, a team that did not offer Wynn. Unlike originally thought, these two might wind up going different ways. Expect Wynn to be a soft Beaver verbal (an easy Duck poach if they'd like him) and Renaud to commit to Boise State.
3. Point guard Jahii Carson is reconsidering Oregon State. He'll be visiting a second time in October or early November, this time for an official visit. Recall that he took an unofficial visit back in March and decommitted shortly after. Apparently he loves coach Rob, but doesn't like the practice facilities.
That's it for now. Time to hit the gym…er, I mean gin. I'm ghost.

I was worried about Renaud visiting BSU last. Prospects tend to have their latest discussion stuck in their heads when they talk recruiting.
None is more obvious than Jahii Carson. It’s hard to deny his talent and consistency on the floor, but even Arizona fans are now whining about his lack of consistency on the recruiting trail. His parents are the connection to Coach Rob… that and he played AAU ball with Coach Rob’s son last year or the year before. I think the staff is all in on Carson, and that’s why we hear very little about other PG prospects. Note that your timetable has him visiting just before the early signing period. He’s on record stating that he would like to make a decision in December and sign late. But an official might push him over the top… one way or another. Collier had the same timetable last year, but he fell in love with fall in Corvallis.
It’s hard to lure top recruits to Corvallis without good practice facilities.
…and now rivals is reporting Agnew has “unofficially” committed. Looks like they ripped off my story.
Wow, the Beavs lost Reynolds to Texas Tech.
Renaud committed to Boise. Anyone know why Reynolds had a change of heart?
My guess is academics since he didn’t even visit Cal and Texas Tech has a reputation for getting guys in. Texas Tech came in late in the process. Reynolds is playing up the “playing time” and “college town” angle; he also claims a 3.2 GPA.
His de-commitment is a big hit.
Any word on Fred Thompson. Is he going to be in fall camp or did they give his scholarship away today?
It’s 50/50…looking more and more like he will greyshirt.
I just noticed the other day that WR Reggie Dunn is on the Utes. Might be old news, I don’t know. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogs/utahsports/50062298-59/whittingham-cullen-defense-dunn.html.csp
What the hell? When/why did that happen?? That’s ridiculous. The Beavers put so many resources into recruiting that guy, and he falls into Utah’s laps? I have a feeling we’re going to hate the Utes in the coming years.
Justin Rogers is a CB to watch now that Reynolds has decommitted. He is a C.C. guy who is high on Texas Tech, but now that they grabbed a corner he may sour. This might wind up being a “trade” between the Beavs and Texas Tech. Or Texas Tech could wind up stealing two of our stronger CB recruits (probably the more likely scenario, actually).
Adding the Utes hurts the Beavs more than any other team, imho. I think that we go head to head for a lot of recruits, especially the polynesians that have helped our team so much. Imagine in the future not having someone like Paea because he plays for the Utes.
Exactly right, OS.
We went head to head with them before their absorption by the Pac-12. That will only increase.
Notice what happened to our poly/Hawaiian pipeline last year when Washington decided to recruit that demographic. Now add Utah…
It’s why the Beavs are looking to North Carolina and Texas. Not sure if those are realistic long-term pipelines or not. My prediction is they look more and more to Canada (and Alaska).
Dylan Wynn commits.
Scout gives him a 4-star rating. That’s liberal. But, pretty good get.
Agnew also committed.
Warren, see #1 above.
My bad. Also heard that Renaud is visiting Corvallis during the season, so maybe Anderson and Ward can sway him along with Wynn. You never know.
I think how the Beavs perform during the OOC games will have an affect on whether some of the on the fence guys commit or not
I find it a bit disturbing that practice facilities would be the reason you do or do not go to a school. Also, I don’t know this to be the case or not but I thought practices were held at Gill and that Coach Rob has been pushing for a separate practice facility since he got here.
You are right. We are going to be building a separate practice facility near the sports performance complex. I am not sure about the funding and if the project is official but I think it should be finished in the next couple of years.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Ducks to offer Wynn soon.
Gio Bernard to miss the entire season. I swear I predicted that at some point.
Jahii Carson would be a good get for Coach Rob and Oregon State. We are going to have our basketball practice facility ready in under 2 years. Riley looks like he will make a Rose Bowl in the next few years and hopefully this year. Corvallis and OSU have one of the nicest campuses you could ask for. GO BEAVS!!
