As we all know, Molesi is out. He's going to a C.C. in Arizona.
Fred Thompson and DJ Welch are also out.
Needless to say, Thompson is a huge loss. Molesi and Thompson were our prized DTs of the class. How come it's never the Connor Hamletts of the world who fail to qualify? It's always a key guy at a key position. Riley should be taking risks at positions of depth, like QB, not at DT.
There's chatter that these guys will be here in January. My experience following recruiting says pipe dream.
They’re probably going to have to move Glover inside next year. Tuivailala and Castro Masaniai are the other options. Pretty scary stuff. In Riley we trust!
It appears once Paea showed up on campus the coaches figured DT wasn’t a position they needed to do a good job of recruiting. I did a little research and with these guys now off the board and Happy Iona never having a chance, the aforementioned Tuivailala and Qwayshawn Buckley are the only DT recruits since Paea came in 2008. I couldn’t find much on Buckley except that ESPN has him as a Beaver and Rivals has him going to Wazzu. ESPN and Rivals also has discrepancies for Tuivailala who comes in as a 6’3″ 230 lb DE according to ESPN, whereas Rivals has him at a more robust 6’4″ 288 lb DT. What to make of all this? All I can say is thank goodness Paea stayed for his senior year and that maybe, just maybe, we can sell a JUCO DT or HS prospect on immediate playing time for next year.
Jesse Williams is the Juco DT to land, but historically the Beavers don’t do well with players who have prestigious offers (Alabama, LSU, etc).
Buckley is definitely a Cougar.
Sorry for the lack of insight, in-depth thought provoking analysis…but we’re fucked.
kind of a bummer. It is funny though that you rip the Beavers for taking too many chances on the big name DT’s. If we had not shot for the stars then you would be complaining about all the 1 and 2 star DT’s. Oh well I guess that is what this blog is all about… finding something to complain about. It would be nice to find a JC guy to fill in at DT. I think this Masaniai guy is legit but I don’t know who else. I think it is always tough to find a guy that can play immediately as a DT. I wonder if it would be worth it to switch some of the young O-lineman now so they can work on the defensive skills.
Also the reason the Conner Hamlets of the world never fail to qualify is because there are dozens of Conner Hamlet’s to offer therefore you offer the one you know will make it into school.
I suppose.
It’s so not much about stars as it is quality. Everyone was excited about Paea and he was a zero star.
Fred Thompson is only a 3-star. Don’t act like he was an all-world recruit.
For OSU standards he was pretty “All-World”, but I see your point.
