From Wisconsin's rivals network:
Oak Ridge (N.C.) Military wide receiver Kenzel Doe is committed to Oregon State but he could end up at Wisconsin according to sources so keep an eye on that.
He also took a trip to Wisconsin without informing anyone.
He's a favorite of many fans on this site, so I thought this was big news.
Some more big news is that Tyrequek Zimmerman is being swayed by his good friend Jabral Johnson to decommit from Oregon State and commit to Arizona. While I don't believe this rumor–mainly because Arizona doesn't have a known offer to Zimmerman–they are known to be a package deal. Eggers is a good source, and he said both to OSU, so feel moderately confident in that for now. If Arizona officially offers, all bets are off. Actually, if that happens, look for Zimmerman to bolt.
You have to wonder how much of this is due to on the field performance. There are two schools' of thought on this: those who say a recruit will see that OSU needs help (i.e. immediate playing time), and those who believe a recruit with many options will go to the most prestigious, winning program. I fall into the latter camp. I think a lot of recruits are souring because of the team's performance. Do you think Johnson isn't in Zimmerman's ear talking about how embarrassing OSU looked on national TV? Meanwhile, Arizona is on the rise and quickly becoming a destination. Remember the days delusional Beaver fans called him Mike Stoopid? Yeah.
Angry,
I would fall into the former group because I would rather play for a team who needs help on the field with my speed. If I can play right away and start due to my speed and ability.
I’m sure he’s also looking at the recruits we’ve picked up and noticed that we haven’t gotten any decent Lineman and not really getting any defensive guys. so perhaps he sees that and thinks this is who they want for their defense.
are we going to land any big names this year? Is that kid from Hillsboro considering us? Seems like the status quo. I think we need a ton of JC help to shore up the defense. As I recall the last couple of years we recruited some decent O-linemen so hopefully we will get stronger in that area as those guys develop.
They’re in the mix with a few 4-star guys (Moala, Moreland, Peat, Hobbi), but those guys all have (more) prestigious offers. The big names that actually visited didn’t commit or have great things to say. So, no, I don’t think we land any name brand preps this year. JCs, maybe.
I think it all depends all depends on the recruit and what they want. If they want to play right away, OSU is their school, if they want to play against top teams or participate in top 25 teams, then OSU is not their team. not sure what they are thinking or where they will decide to go.
Is OSU really the school you go to if you want to play right away. Sure Quizz and James played right away. But how many times have we seen an Austin Hall get burned when we know there is a better athlete on the bench. If I want to play right away I go to a school like BSU that puts their most talented players on the field. Not a school like OSU that rewards a guy for bringing the lunch pail every day. Not that I don’t think that rewarding guys for their work is a bad thing.
Yeah, that’s pretty true now that I think about it. Guys recruiting against OSU could use Riley’s fascination with walk-ons against him.
i don’t know, it seems like when a player is truly talented, he sees the field as a freshman (Phillipp, Poyer, Rodgers Bros., Doctor (to an extent now), Wheaton (although he was severely limited thanks to him playing the same position as James, although he did see the field some).
So, if you’re good enough to play (and there isn’t an All-Pac 10 player in front of you, you WILL play
The Pac-12 will be a great conference and probably will be the next in line behind the SEC for now. Doe is like a James Rodgers from what I hear. The Beavs just have to start winning and get a couple road wins. Defense needs help but we may want a new D-coordinator. I don’t understand how we can be within a stone’s throw of the Rose Bowl the last two years and have a poor defense. I just feel like someone else would get more form their players. Looking at some gametape of the Fiesta Beavs the guys in that defense played very aggressively and prided themselves on wreaking havoc. They did.
Winning just hasn’t really helped us recruit. Playing for the Rose Bowl 2 years straight, and what kind of recruiting classes has that given us? One four-star recruit. The only reason a top prospect like DA chose us was because we were local, and even those guys are going out-of-state now.
I feel that recruiting for Riley and Co. has not only become the “Diamond in the rough”, but it also has become, well why go after top recruits and waste time and energy when we can try and find guys who we know we can get to come here. They also say it’s about who they feel would fit their system and their program….well, from where I’m sitting…there’s something broken with OSU and it’s called the defense….ergo…fix it!!! How does one fix it? first look inward to outward in recruiting.
Ask yourself, is there anyone in this state who wishes to stay local? yes, I don’t know, and I don’t cares are the ones we need to go after in the NW.
Move on to the next category: Speed. Does the player run faster than our current players? Recruit those players. (who cares about potential, as a coach, I’d take speed over potential any day.)
Next question: Are there any players that aren’t being recruited by as big or bigger schools than we currently are that fit these criteria. Yes, ok go after those guys.
All these coaches need is an Algorithm of who they need(age), what they need(speed), and where they need them(position).
Danny Granillo (MLB) at Willamette is the same as Michael Bibbee… and the same could be said of Matthew Devereux (DE/DT) at Marist and Michael Balfour (MLB) at Sherwood. They are all violent train wrecks on every play.
Hayden Plinke (DE/TE) at Glencoe has good size and superb speed for a DE… or even an H-back.
Keaton Hedman (CB) at West Linn is a burner with good ball skills.
Ellis Henderson (CB) up in Vancouver is another fast ballhawk.
Andre Lee (OG) at Lake O is a two time all stater on the O-line.
Miles Weatheroy (DB) at Jesuit is a physical ball hawk.
Out of state I like a kid in Hawai’i named KT Tu’umalo. He’s currently a LB at 6’2″, 215#. But he clocked a sub-50 second 400m at the Hawai’i state meet last year. That’s some guts.
And my personal favorite is a kid from Tacoma named Rahmel Dockery (WR/CB). He is a game changer, and I would love to see him as a Beav. As good as he is, I have to wonder what the hell the rest of the NCAA is thinking not wanting him on their rosters. I’m not going to bother showing you one YouTube vid of this kid. I’ll show you a whole Google search page full of his vids. And not all of them are him being outstanding on just the field.
I’ve heard a rumor that he and a teammate might be visiting for Homecoming, but I think he wants to be a WR, and most schools want him as a CB. As much as I like Doe, I really like Dockery that much more.
http://www.google.com/search?q=rahmel+Dockery&btnGNS=Search+youtube.com&oi=navquery_searchbox&sa=X&as_sitesearch=youtube.com&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us%3AIE-SearchBox
I’m sold! I saw 3 kick offs returned for TD and it looked like he was jogging!!! Angry, send this link to BDC and Co. PRONTO!!!
2:30 mark of this video, he runs a version of the fly sweep!!! He already knows a play!!! lol
He also has break away speed it appears.
He can’t reverse his direction and stop on a dime like james and Quizz, but it seems that he’s taller or more of a markus wheaton type. I think if we play him both WR and DB/CB then he’ll be recruited.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCuUtsu1DMo
He’s a long strider, legs are moving fast but he’s blowing by everyone. Strong, cuts on a dime…you let him play wherever he wants.
I think better than all this is that he seems to be one of those rare kids who is able to sense the right angles to make it to space. He doesn’t run hard downhill or laterally. He runs hard to open field then makes good decisions at full speed to find his next direction.
Because he has the speed he does, he makes it look effortless. I love tape where would be tacklers are left flailing for a guy’s legs as he runs by. It makes him look like he’s surfing a wave of bodies.
Agreed. He’s just as happy running straight down he field, only cutting when necessary, as if he’s hiding or hording the ankle breaking cuts for later when they are absolutely necessary.
Oh… and he’s doing it all again this season. His stat lines are ridiculous.

Hey! He’s a 7′ high jumper, and he punts too! I smell a ‘nice story’ for Riley to jump on.
Now your making him sound like he’s out of our league!? Maybe he’d like to stay close to home, and play for a less sucky team like WSU, UW…let’s hope the Ducks don’t sniff him out.
He reminds me of Poyer–looks very natural running and making plays. I still like Doe more, and consider him a big loss.
In the spirit of honoring the First Bowl team, and in the spirit of the player entrance video, the team should watch highlights of the first bowl before the game.
Also agree that a talented recruit DOESN’T choose OSU if they want to play early, the precedence isn’t really there. They’d play sooner at UA than OSU. And not to sound too shallow, the girls in Arizona are amazing and if you’re 18…
Defense does need work, but the main thing for the Beavers overall is too play INSPIRED football and go out there and WANT it more than the other team. Beaver Nation is very ready to support our guys like crazy but we want and need the players to JUST WANT IT and make us proud and inspire us through their play. We need to harness some good contagion that will ultimately make for more leaders on the field and the players giving their all for one another and to make Oregon State fans proud! I think we have been a little lethargic and we must play like each event is a special opportunity to showcase the program and continue to earn respect. Every Beav touchdown and defensive stop causes Reser to go wild and it is up to the players and coaches to go out there and make the program come alive so that we hear those sheers as often as posible. Pac-10 wins are alot of fun and Beaver Nation always wants to experience conference winning. Banker and some of the D should not be anywhere near satisfied with the performance so far. We need our D to hold and get off the field and then the offense needs to just worry most about first downs and staying on the field and maintaining possession so that the other team has less chances. GO BEAVS!!
Honestly, unless players are on the defensive side of the ball, I really don’t consider their de-commit a big deal. At this point I hope that we take any lost scholarships and offer them to any 2+ star player that plays O-line, D-line, and LB player…at least then we have a group of guys that we can develop…
I know that losing Zimmerman and Doe and are awesome, but we don’t need them as much as we need lineman and linebackers.

Q & A with Hardin on O-live
Don’t know much about this Hawaiian Na’Alli Robins…Who will be the Third DE OSU will have for a verbal Commit. Here’s to hoping!

If we lose Kenzel Doe, I’m going to slam my head through some dry-wall.
This kid is going to be a star, and it very much sounds like he has already chosen Wisconsin but is waiting to tell Riley and Co.
He’s one of those highly underrated players thats 5-star calibur disguised as a 2-star.
If Zimmerman goes too, then Riley should just stop recruiting and take names of OSU students who are interested in playing football, put their names in a raffle bin, and the first 22 names he pulls out will be given a scholarship…
He could have a pass/punt/kick competition in the Quad like Pettibone did.
Thanks for the update. Sigh, I wonder if we’ll lose Lampkins too.
I doubt it. OSU is his only offer.
Don’t like to admit it, as I might get jeered (don’t tell our fair minded Duck fan that visits occasionally here), but I often find myself rooting for the damn Ducks.
However, as my wife and I were driving to work (I live in Omaha, NE), wearing out Beaver gear, a vehicle with that dang green O pulled in front of us. It’s not uncommon to see either schools advertised here, but I’d say more common for the Ducks. I instantly shuttered and hoped that Stanford wins this weekend. Otherwise, I’m usually, and secretly a bit torn. Actually, if the flamboyance (read: arrogance?) of the Green and Yellow was a bit more subdued, I’d probably find it easier for our fellow Oregonian D-1 ers to carry the torch and march on toward a National Championship. But it’s hard.
Why are you torn? I was born and grew up in Oregon, and thus want to see both in-state schools do well in football. I root for both.
And though I agree that the garishness of the UO program can be annoying, I think it has also helped them establish a brand over the last 15 years. This has then helped to lure blue chip recruits in to gray, sleepy Eugene- in my opinion.
Well, maybe it would be easier too if the Beavs could pull off an upset soon, and shock the world and beat the Ducks this year, and GO to the Rosebowl. I think of how K-State must always feel with KU kicking ass every year, then finally, K-State has out together some good hoops teams of late. Maybe one school can help feed the success of the other, and both winning helps boost one or both higher? I guess it must feel better than the UW-WSU rivarly lately…the battle for the bottom (like the O schools in hoops a couple years ago!).
Sorry Angry, this comment is off topic, but I read a quote from Paea that was unnerving.
When Buker asked Paea about whether it is frustrating getting double-teamed, his response was:
“It’s a compliment pretty much, a sign of respect,’’ he said. “But at the same time, I’ve got to step my game up. Double teams shouldn’t be an issue for me. I should go through those double-teams because I go through them every day here (in practice).’’
Doesn’t that speak to poor play on both of OSU’s lines? Not a shocker, I know, but rather unsettling coming from him. Paea cannot get through other teams’ doubles, but he does get through every day against the OSU offensive line.

I don’t mind if you post off-topic comments, but the forums might be a better place for that. That’s why the forum exists–so you can discuss whatever and create your own topics.
And yes, I read that article and thought the same exact thing.
I am still not sure why Phillips doesn’t get worked in a OG. McAndrews is decent enough at LT and Phillips would be a step up from either OG. During the BSU game the announcers said BSU puts its best 5 guys on the O-line. Why can’t OSU do the same thing?
Philipp at OT is fine. Drop the Mc from McAndrews, and you’ll have a point for who should be at guard. I know he’s being groomed to be a C. But he can play guard and get game experience while he waits to take Linnenkohl’s position.
Yes.
We need this crop of walk-ons to graduate. The talent behind them (and the LBs) is greater. I’m more excited about next year’s inexperienced squad than this year’s with all the returning players.
I agree, many fans seem to have the attitude that we are going to get worse after this year. I mean Paea, James, and possibly Quizz will be missed but I think this team will get better for a couple of years.
My dream divisions (a good zipper):
West: UW, OSU, Stanford, UCLA, ASU, Utah
East: WSU, UO, Cal, USC, UA, Colorado
This is a true West/East zipper split as my map shows clearly that Stanford (Palo Alto) is well west of Berkeley. It also better balances the powers otherwise UO, Stanford and USC might all be in same division which would be poorly balanced.
I think it is best to ignore pods and more WSU games and stay within current NCAA bylaws. This will also mean more games against CA teams. You play everyone in your division and your rival and rotate the 3 of 5 remaining from out-of-division. (Or you could maybe not play some teams from your division every year to try to get more games against your out-of-division foes including some CA teams). I think the balance is very good and this setup also assures that we don’t have to watch UO-USC play in the CCG 85% of the time and a Civil War for the Roses is still possible. The Pac12Cooler idea is pretty good but Scott doesn’t want to name divisions 1/2 or A/B so they have been looking at a west/east zipper. One AD is saying N/S divisions are a “nonstarter”, especially the current lean so I still am hopeful we will go zipper and west/east which has proven to cause less problems and infighting and be more equitable. I just think west/east will be best for the overall health, strength and unity of the Pac-12.
Yes, but Cal and UCLA will need to be in the same division to keep that rivalry. There is a slight tie-in with them both being in the UC system. UCLA didn’t recognize Cal for anything more than a doormat for years on end, but Berkeley sure thought there was a rivalry between them.
If we do hopefully go zipper, than the CA schools will almost for sure get their guranteed games together through “pod” scheduling. Than it won’t matter if Cal and UCLA are separated. I really think Stanford and Utah with OSU and the Huskies is a perfect balance against Oregon, USC, Arizona and Cal. We shall see. I hope we get a zipper and a west/east one will almsot for sure beat out the Pac12cooler just because they want to name the divisions something like East/West. The Cooler proposal is good and also has balance but names would have to be A and B or 1 and 2 and I doubt Scott goes for that.
Appreciate some of the “closet” love for my boys. Don’t blame you for bottleing it up – reputations are at stake.
I am a little worried about both of our team’s games this weekend. I like home fields, but Stanford and ASU are tough physical teams. I don’t mean any disrespect, but ASU owned us and I am worried for you all. I think ASU is going to become Oregon’s secret hit man the rest of the season and take out some good teams for us along the way. I am just glad we are done with them and got out of town with our tails between our legs and a “semi-lucky” win. That linebacking core they have in place is gnarly.
Not sure what to expect from our game this weekend. We are pretty solid at home, but Stanford seems poised this year. I guess 25 more hours will tell us a lot about our two programs this year.
Kenzel Doe to Wisconsin. It’s official.
So it looks like the Beavers are going to land the worst player (Lampkins) from the NC trio.
Well, the only upside is we can offer a Defensive Lineman or Linebacker…
Yes, I desperately search for silver lining…
Is there any video of this Lampkins kid?
Did Riley only offer this kid in the hopes of luring his two other friends to Corvallis, but is now stuck with the “tag-along”?
Now that I need to replace some dry-wall, can Terron Ward grow into a James Rodgers role?
Where else is Riley going to find a 5’8″ 180 lb slot man with 4.4 speed? Is there anyone else similar to Doe on Riley’s prospect list that is attainable?
Oregon State looks like it’s going to be stuck in a recruiting pit of hell for the foreseeable future… meanwhile, U of O is putting together a roster of players than can compete with the Jamaican national track team.
Keep in mind two more teams enter the conference next year. Utah recruits the same guys as us (and usually wins those battles). Colorado, not so much, but they’ll probably start.
The biggest error was not hiring a recruiter when Burton left for Portland State. Robin Pflugrad was out there. Aggressive coaches scare Riley; he probably fears a guy like that could steal his job.
Na’Alii Robins commits. Not sure if this is good or bad–film is pretty meh, and he has zero stars and no offers.
Whoa, you guys are rough on the NC boys, lampkins especially. Lampkins is def the least known and has the least football experience since he played soccer before his jr year. Riley saw enough to offer him first but obviously things have changed since then. Lampkins diesnt have anymore offers because his word means more than anything and he has chosen not to entertain anyone but OS. Unfortunately it looks like the kid with the most character, heart, and unlimited ability may get the shaft from Riley since I hear he stopped all contact since Doe decommitted. Lampkins will be a player.
