I can't do a write up for this game because I have to prepare for a 6:45am job interview.
I'll be checking in here and there via radio, but mainly relying on you guys to post updates. It will be interesting to see if the Beavs can keep things rolling away from Gill versus a solid Washington State team.
I've got a bad feeling about this one.
Time: 7pm
TV: No stream or tv as far as I can tell.
Radio: KPAM
Is Reggie Moore playing? If not, I think we win.
He’s playing.
wow, tough crowd.
apparently Beavs getting boos as they entered the court
Game is apparently being streamed, but I cannot find a link. Good luck on your job interview!
Thanks. I’m still clinging to my old one, so there’s no pressure (in theory).
That is always a good position for interviewing. One does not have that appearance of desperation!
Damn, the pirateers put those non-con games on channelsurfing.net, but dont put a P-10 game on it????
effing weak there is no TV. FSNW should carry this. Cal vs. Zona? Cal is not FSNW now is it?
Down 17-8, Omari clanking threes, turnovers galore by all. Sounds like Wazzu is getting plenty of open looks. Just what I was concerned about.
Cunningham sounds like the only one who came ready for a tough road game right now.
I had a feeling the Beavs would get creamed on the road. Eek. They need to find energy from within when the Gill crowd isn’t there to provide it. This is a problem with young teams.
Pothead Moore already has two 3s. Figures that Bone would not punish him. He left the Portland State program with NCAA violations.
He did punish Moore. The incident was December11 and the next game he didn’t start. Such a stiff punishment by the disciplinarian Ken Bone.
Guys, hoping the opponents best players are benched isn’t a long term winning strategy. Forget the Moore incident. Worry about the Beavs.
Not my point, Bone left PSU in academic shambles. Just seeing a trend with him.
It is a kid smoking some weed… not a big deal. Although it is a good excuse to get rid of an unproductive scholarship.
I am a PSU grad, know that Bone was pretty hands off academically with his players, left a mess behind when he went to Wazzu. Did not get much press with PSU being a minor program.
I’m turning this one off. Bad feeling. Let me know if it gets close.
Sounds like some pretty awful officiating going on. No surprise the Beavers have notoriously been screwed over the years on the road. It’s early though, the Beavers just need to chip away and bring it to within 4 by halftime and they got a real shot to pull this one out.
Refs are not going to give the Beavs anything tonight. Missed an obvious goal tending according to Mike Parker. Roberto is scoring tonight, but down 11 now. Brandt and Cunningham just missed layups. God, I hate being a Beaver fan.
1 problem of Jared Cunningham that needs to be fixed immediately, When he gets to the rim in th half court offense he gets WAY too excited and doesn’t finish the play. He needs to play more under control in the half court.
How dare you criticize Cunningham!
I’ve said all along that’s his one problem, and it’s a big one.
Down 19, no defense. I can accept bad nights on offense, but just play tough defense.
The Beavers still got a shot in this game, the Cougars have blown some leads this year. The Beavers just need to stop worrying about the score and focus on chipping away. Washington State will let them back in the game if they do that.
Would it be possible for CR to forbid Omari from taking three pointers? Is that a viable option?
Sounds like Lathen Wallace has come in with energy and is getting to the foul line. This is unlike him.
Beavers played much better defense in last 3 minutes and if they keep that up they can come back in this game. Sounds like 1-3-1 is really effective against the Cougs. One thing that will hurt the comeback attempt though is, poor officiating. Sounds like most of the time when Jared goes to the rim he can’t buy a call, not surprising though.
Not bad to be down 12 shooting 10-32. Are the Beavs ever going to be automatic on layups? Sounds like CR was working over the refs at the end, I hope it pays off.
Lathan finally hit a three! Beavs are getting a lot of calls, looks like CR got through to the refs. Only down 8!
Lathen Wallace playing the best for the Beavers?! I’m struggling to fully understand this.
Daniel Deane and McShane on the floor at the same time… ugh.
Lol.
Is it the 2nd half yet?
Yes it’s 55-46 WSU. Beavers have been as close as 6 in 2nd half.
I just turned it on to hear Cunningham miss a layup hah
Also Angry, Lathen has played really well I’m sure you love that.
One thing I want changed about college hoops, You shouldn’t be allowed to take timeouts after you make a basket. It slows down the game and makes no sense to me.
Eventually WSU is going to start missing some three’s…right?
10/20 from 3. That’s just unreal. It won’t last rest of game.
One would hope, Wazzu is just casting up threes left and right. I wish the game was televised, so I could see how open the looks are.
Burton could cut it to five, but he has been so bad from the line. Got to like the comeback so far.
Man, I wish Roberto had hit that open three that would have got it done to three. It would have good for his confidence. He has gone stone cold from the outside lately.
Joe Shaq Burton at the line…
Freshman for the Beavers tonight have struggled tonight. Just 7 points tonight. First really tough road game and seems to be too much for them right now.Mostly just been the Sophomores and Lathen tonight doing the work.
Burton has to make the front end of this 1&1. Dude is atrocious at the line. How is it that I, a couch potato, am a better free throw shooter than a DI college player?
Dammit…..these little turnarounds are so crucial. CR sent Burton to the bench.
It’s unbelievable this game is even this close. Considering how well WSU has shot from the field and from 3.
Burton needs to start making free throws. Those were big free throws had a chance to cut it to 4 and now it’s a 9 point deficit.
WSU is missing their 3s now, but the Beavers are doing everything they can to not take advantage.
WSU is finally coming back to earth on their threes.
Beavers may have this game tied if they started making free throws. They need to get better at the line. Can’t blame Coach Rob for that he does what he can.
All of these opportunities are not going to last forever. Now the Seniors are not making plays.
Calvin for the love of god, make your free throws.
Double bonus should help
Have the Beavs missed 15 layups tonight? If this team could ever shoot the basketball, they would be such a force.
Beavs need a sports psychologist so badly.
This must be how the Wildcat fans felt last week. All these missed opportunities.
If the Beavers had played the Cougars even the first 15 minutes they’d be up double digits. That’s exactly why you can’t fall behind big.
Goodnight.
Beavers lost focus and has panicked and fallen down double digits.
Wow, what a nasty sequence and Omari is in the middle of it missing shots. Has he ever made a crucial shot in his career?
Jared has not played well in the 2nd half. Constantly losing the ball and missing lay-ups.
If this team could shoot they seriously would be up 20.
And if Riley could recruit the Beavs would be in the title game, and if I were Sergey Brin I’d own Google, etc.
I’m talking about lay-ups. This team just needs to focus on finishing lay-ups. If they can do that they will be so much better. It’s a tough loss but the team will be fine. If they have better starts this season on the road they will win some road games.
Of course they would be better if they made layups. I doubt they’re trying to miss them.
Good god, the way Parker describes it all of these shots are two footers in the lane that are being missed. If Burton and Omari calmly make their foul shots, it might have finished differently.
Coach Rob has to be frustrated. He does all he can and the team just misses lay-ups over and over.
Sounds like defense was the problem tonight. WSU had to have this game. I felt like it was one the Beavs needed to steal on the road. I dont see how they beat the Huskies on Saturday. Disappointing, kind of expected.
Yeah that sums it up.
This had disaster written on it.
I wonder how badly the Huskies will take it to us. I’m thinking in the 90-60 range.
Definitely. It’s their toughest road game of the season so it would have been tough to come out on top. They’ll probably head back to Corvallis at 2-2. Next 3 would be at home so it really isn’t too big of a deal to get swept by the Washington schools.
23 for 68..33.8% and they gave up 51% to Wazzu…not gonna win many with that difference. They also had 17 more shots and still lose by 14…ouch.
Bad shooting tonight for sure but I doubt there will be many games where the Beavers shoot that terribly.
I’m tired of being swept by the Washington Schools…maybe we can beat them in Baseball…
The Beavers can sweep them when they come to Gil. It’s all part of the growing pains of a young team, especially when on the road. Just need to be patient.
It seems like the guards (young and old) are always trying to do too much. We only had 12 assisted buckets to WSU’s 18, that is not good. I suspect Cunningham let his AZ success get to his head, he is young, he will learn from it. Not sure about this game but in the past when we have shot a low clip it has been related to a lack of motion on offense and a lot of 1-on-1 play. Need to get back to more of a system on offense (not necessarily Princeton), maybe more screens, pick and rolls, off-ball screens, etc.
I don’t get how Joe can’t make a FT… his shot looks okay, it is like he is regressing in that area. Maybe get Joe off the floor during the 1-and-1 time period? Hopefully Gomis is the real deal or one of our project centers come along quickly because I don’t know that Brandt is any better than Burton.
I think we’ll put up a good fight verse UW.
Burton doesn’t use his legs at all when shooting from the line. No legs equals no touch. If you play golf or baseball, this is like not turning your hips when you swing. In football it’s like throwing off your back foot.
Last I saw, Gomis was averaging about 7 to 8 points per game, about 8 rebounds per game and about 4 blocks per game. I don’t think he starts, but he plays quite a bit from the bench during quality minutes against quality competition. He’s still a project at this point, but he will enter college ball with a lot more upside than other Senegalese prospects (like N’Diaye up at UW). Gomis will be good because he’s a gazelle. If he develops an offensive game, he will dominate the league. So I wouldn’t expect too much from him next year except for spot duty which develops into decent time (think Burton’s frosh year). His soph year will be the key. He will need to compete against Brandt and Burton (seniors at that time) while finding his place in the game.
The guy I miss is Moreland. He was showing signs of some pretty good play. His hustle and toughness are what I always thought Omari could do. But Omari just doesn’t have an edge. Moreland does have that something which can make him great with time. But I’ve heard that he’s feeling homesick. So I don’t know where he goes from here.
But I can see a future with a line-up of Gomis, Moreland and Collier (and Brown?) on the front court. Depending on who we get as guards in this and next year’s signings, our team make-up and development will be similar to that of Baylor’s team a couple years ago.
Coach Rob has an eye for the bigs, and I like the way he develops them as well. The problem we had when he got here is our bigs thought they were point centers. There’s a reason taller players are recruited to play basketball, and it’s not to sit on the arc all game. It takes a couple years for all but the very best recruits to develop their games at the college level.
Good stuff… it is nice having a big that can pass though. Really opens up the high-low post game and the extra height allow them to make some passes the smaller guys might to be able to see or have the right angle on.
