Some of you may have noticed the site was down today. I've been working on some improvements.
1. Permalinks are now better. Instead of weird links like ?>?4521 each post now has the category and post id in the URL.
2. I installed a chat for live events: http://angrybeavs.com/chat
It's a pre-written WordPress plugin, but I had to customize some code to make it mesh with this site. The chat is only available to registered users. After logging in you'll sync with the SQL database, which should allow you to move seamlessly between the blog and chat area). Test it out. Get back to me if you find any issues.
Browser issues:
Firefox: none
Google Chrome: none
Safari: none
Internet Explore: Large gap between text box and users.
I recommend switching to Firefox or Chrome. IE is as terrible a browser as Grew Newhouse is a recruiter. You really shouldn’t be using it.
Do people use IE anymore?
Unfortunately!
Yes indeed, our corporate mandates IE…
Welcome to the 90’s.
Hey guys:
Tried chrome and it was kind of difficult to navigate for me – no tool bars etc. Suggestions? Firefox?
sincerely,
one of the idiots still using explorer
The highly touted “Two Biggest and Most Anticipated Recruiting Weekends” in program history have netted exactly….wait for it….ZERO recruits. Get rid of BDC, tell Riley he wins 9 games next year or is out and bring big changes to OSU Athletics. The “same old” isn’t working and isn’t sexy.
Not true! We got Clute and his stars are…. ah… never mind.
What is the deal with all you assholes piling on Kellen Clute…Kellen’s going to be a good player for us…if you’re going to constantly pile on a recruit, I really don’t think this is the one…
There, I said. Kellen Clute is going to make you pussies eat crow.
GWH
I appreciate the effort.
I hope you are right. And I guess you are right, I should be dumping on Riley for only having no star recruits signed. Sorry Clute, good for you buddy.
Oh, I don’t mind you ragging on recruits…for whatever reason, Kellen passes the “eye test’ for me…just replace “Clute” with “Harrah” and I’m totally on board!
On top of it all, how can anyone go against the name Clute? It sounds like a name Louis Lamour should be writing about.
Hey Angry:
Are you going to make a “chat” link next to your “forum” “register” “contact”… at the top of the main page?
Probably not. I’d like to use it only during live events, so it will be linked in those posts. Last night was a test session.
There are benefits to the slow, boring comment section. For example, documentation of who said what, and the ability to go back and read comments, expound upon someone’s opinion, etc. The chat is instant gratification, and it’s fun, but it doesn’t allow me to address anyone’s opinions or points and visa versa.
I think they both have a purpose. Chat is perfect for keeping things uncluttered on gamedays. Once the game ends, I will close the session and move to the comment area. I think that’s a good plan.
Google Analytics is amazing. It actually breaks down users by browser type. 31% use Internet Explorer–that’s actually the highest %. Firefox is at 27%. Someone uses Firefox on a Linux machine, making up the smallest percentage at 1.36%.
Actually, Chrome on a Unix machine @ .06%.
lol
I prefer Linux to Unix by quite a bit, but the machine I have with Ubuntu on it isn’t hooked up to the web. It has a wireless card in it, but I’m too lazy to design a driver for it.
Oh well, it’s a superior OS, but maybe it stays that way because it’s so clean. If I ever need patches for it, I just download them here and plug them in over there.
A lot of the world outside the US uses Linux based browsers. I hear FF is stellar on those machines. Maybe I’ll try it one day.
That’s the problem with Linux–finding drivers. I tested Ubuntu and Fedora…they seemed promising, but I couldn’t run basic hardware.
Yeah, but it’s soooo nice for any publishing needs you may have. I kinda like being disconnected when I’m doing anything like that anyway.
I think it’s true power and usability lies in using it as a server versus a client. I can see why companies want to use something like Redhat over microsoft. Good documentation, drivers, 99% reliability, low overhead, etc. I figured I should learn Linux for that reason, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I have to say I love Windows XP…it’s my favorite OS of all time. I’d be on board with Apple if they’d give me a right mouse click.
The funny part about the Linux machine i have is that it used to be a Windows XP machine that was so gummed up that it would take up to 10 minutes just to fire up the desktop. I downloaded Ubuntu 9.10, and I installed it 100% on that machine just to see what would happen.
That sucker hums now… and it’s so pretty.
Now Ubuntu has 11.04 out, and I need to work on getting it.
Yep, Linux has low processing overhead. People don’t realize what a clean install of Windows or switching to Linux can do for a machine that is seemingly “too old”. My laptop is from May 2007, which is “old” by most standards, but it flies. I put in a new CPU, 7200rpm hard drive, and 2GB of RAM a few months ago. It cost about $200, but it’s faster than any 2011 machine would run out of the box.
It’s funny you brought up ICQ last night. They released ICQ 7.4 Build 4561/26 yesterday. I’m skeptical of it though. Digital Sky Technologies bought it last year, and they’ve customized it for several of their other holdings (FB being one of them). The problem with DST is that they are power players in Russian politicking and American banking.
Even if there is no malicious intent present within the structure and delivery of ICQ to it’s users, I don’t like the appearance of power brokers owning messaging services.
That’s a bummer. I would have liked to try it for nostalgia, but no way I’d go near that. I use pidgin (open source). Please don’t tell me a bank recently bought them.
