Duck Tipster & Other Rumors

147

Well, I never intended to cover the Ducks, but I keep getting information that's too good to ignore, so here we go.

What I am hearing is there's a medical marijuana dealer in Oregon exchanging marijuana for players' memorabilia. These are high profile players, folks. And some of the memorabilia is from the National Championship Game. I'd say this source is %99.9999~ reliable and is in possession of a (figurative) smoking gun. To avoid any legal issues I'll leave a little room for "doubt", if you catch my drift.

A second tipster added his own marijuana story to the one above, and also linked me to an eBayer selling game-worn Duck gear. With his approval, I'm sharing a portion of our email exchange:

So the story as I heard it…a buddy of mine has a medical marijuana card. My friend, a big football fan, was here in Portland hanging out at a marijuana dispensary and chatting up the guy that worked behind the counter about football. This is probably early February? Evidently the guy behind the counter installs grow light operations for people who have medical marijuana cards. So he got a call one day to install some new grow lights in some other guy's basement. He goes to the guys house and there's TONS of Oregon memorabilia. Signed jerseys, helmets, shoes, gloves, you name it. Tons of stuff from what I heard – like a museum. And going back just a few years – like Dennis Dixon era on, but nothing older than that. The grow light installer asks how this guy got all this stuff – and without directly stating anything, the other guy indicated he traded marijuana for it. This morning I heard from a 2nd source that is basically the same story as what I had heard originally. I deliberately haven't told anybody about this, so I know I didn't hear it from somebody who heard it from me. I doubt my friend has really told anybody.  He told me because he knows I'm an OS fan but he said he hadn't really spread it around, so I don't think it's coming from the same source. There's a possibility though that it's from the same source.

Now, I heard that this story happened in Portland (making Cliff Harris' recent midnight run pretty interesting to me). Today the other source told me that the house was in Eugene – in fact the same house that Kiko Alonso broke into back in April/May.

In addition, I found this…

[Note: Ebay link removed at user's request]

This person, with a Eugene address, seems to have quite a bit of Ducks memorabilia for sale. Now, i know…you can buy SOME of this kind of stuff at the annual Oregon 'garage sale', but never game worn jerseys or helmets. Never autographed items.

Other rumors that appear true, but I cannot confirm:

  • Jabari Brown's AAU coach accepted payment upon delivery from Phil Knight.
  • The scandal and payments span the entire athletic department and multiple coaching staffs.
  • Several big donors are involved.

Wow. The Ducks must feel like they're on that game show Press Your Luck? "No Whammies, no whammies!"

  1. gosh those dirty sweatpants look pretty appealing (and you can’t beat the price!) but i think i’ll just keep holding out for a duck jock strap.

  2. I’ve been told about Duck players trading game worn jerseys and memorabilia for marijuana or quite some time; My brother had been a student till June and he works with a girl who has been uh, “friendly” with a lot of the football players and I was told she has seen numerous accounts of players trading memorabilia for marijuana and other types of drugs as well. Ducks players have been doing this for years.

I’ve heard similar things about PK paying for Jabari Brown. Also heard he has been directly involved in getting many football players to sign with the Ducks with payments in many differnt forms. The entire athletic department is shady and have covered up so many things and have been cheating for quite some time, what happened today is only the beginning and things are going to get so ugly for the program.

  3. Ok, so can OSU athletics work with Addidas or UnderArmour if all of this turns out to be true? I can’t see staying with Nike if these other rumors come to light and are true.

  4. I don’t know how anything can be proven to be a direct payment to the AAU coach for Brown when Drew Gooden could have easily laundered the money under the guise of shoe endorsement money. Unless they didn’t go through Drew, then we’re looking at stupidity personified.

  5. I apologize if I already posted this, but now I can’t find the post! The Lyles story made front page of the print edition of the Oregonian this morning. I guess better late than never. Canzano also has a pretty scathing editorial in the sports section…sounds like in previous conversations Kelly pretty much lied to him about having had any contact with Lyles (or even knowing him). Both are probably on the Oregon Live website by now.

  6. “Think of how stupid the average Yuck is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”
This is beyond belief, dumbfounding. At least a 10 on the Ducked meter.

  7. Who is getting DUCKED???
Stanford a legit, play by the rules, must attend classes, good footbal team has already lost one NC shot and may lose another if the Cheating Ducks aren’t stopped!!!

  8. You guys may have caught this already, but the “Lyles Scandal” made front page of the Oregonian this morning. Better late, than never I guess. Canzano is fairly scatching towards Kelly in his editorial piece in the sports section. Apparently, Kelly lied to Canzano a few months back when asked directly if he knew Willie Lyles.

  9. This is going to go downhill fast. With all the actual evidence of other violations out there, this one would just be the flowers on the icing on the cake. It’s past pathetic and entering the realm of “has beens”.

I’ve read all the interviews with Lyles and tried to read between the lines on all the material he sent to Nikegon in their mad scramble to cover this up. I’m starting to doubt that the additional spreadsheets released on the 21st were sent by Lyles at all.

Time for a break from all the insanity. Let’s have some fun from another Santa Barbara boy…
    http://www.youtube.com/user/BEAVERSwoBORDERS#p/a/u/0/4ubIe34ZgD0

I’m really looking forward to next year’s hoops team.

    • I’m glad someone else is paying attention to Beavers without Borders. However, I hope Berto Nelson’s injuries are superficial – I am somewhat concerned about tendons, etc. Also, he could have sustained serious eye injuries. aaarrgh

  10. I wonder how long until a player cracks? UO must be working hard on keeping them quiet. Check out sports by brooks and Sestrunk interview at NC game, the kid doesn’t sound like he picked UO. If the media gets to him or james…

    • Lache, LaMichael or Cliff will say something, just a matter of when. Those three are some of the dumbest players on the team, well, at least that’s what their adviser basically told them lol

      • If Will Lyles files a lawsuit PK or somebody maybe the OR AD will gladly pay him $250,000 to go away and keep Seastrunk and James off the witness stand.

This is what happened at SUC. After stalling for years they came up with the money pronto when a lawsuit was filed.

        • Old UO Pres was previously an OR Attorney General and is no stranger to corruption. He will likely illicit his friends in the AG office to use state money to fix another UO problem.

  11. Dumb is a word floating around the sports web sites right now describing the Duck football higher ups. It sounds like Kelly and staff actually sent “thank you” e-mails to Lyles for his service before he every provided any scouting reports. Is that ignorance or arrogance? But I guess this is not surprising, this is the same athletic department that let Mike Belotti work without a signed contract.

One article gave the Auburn program a backhanded compliment because there was no paper trail with Cam Newton, so no proof. Kind of a sad state of affairs.

    • Goes beyond e-mails man. Check out the yahoo article, they have a photo of a hand written letter signed by Chip. If the signature is verified (which is very easy to do with the volume of autographed memorabilia available), then Chip has essentially admitted the whole thing.

  12. Will Lyles needs to file a lawsuit fast so it is scheduled before the NCAA hammer comes down on OR else he loses leverage.
Please contact Will if you can and ask him to file now.

  13. I read Sports by Brooks earlier today and noticed that Yahoo! Sports first tapped into the UO fouled Duck nest. Do any of you know how that happened and who smelled it first?

    • Hey, my name is Mike Smith, I am the guy on ebay, I do not and have never sold anything of an Oregon Duck who still had eligibility at UO. I am getting threatening messages through ebay, they better stop. A person who saw this story here told me about it so I came here and read it, its bullshit. I have nothing to do with any medical marijuana. Any of you cowards that want to talk to me about anything then call me and I will talk or meet you anywhere anytime. This isn’t about Ducks or Beavs, youve come at me personally and now we will see!

      • Per your request, I’ll remove the link to your page.

But, instead of getting defensive, you could just explain where you got game-worn gear…

        • He’s probably a trainer stealing from Nikegon.

Somewhat joking… Nikegon sells off game worn crap to losers who like to sniff sweat. Also, his claim that he doesn’t sell garbage from players with eligibility is direct. I tend to believe him.

Now, Mr. Smith, you have said you will talk any time. If you’re bright enough, you can find my email and send me a note about how much of a coward I am… that is if you’re upset enough about me calling your side business a sham preying on the stupidest of the stupid.

And this comes from a comic book and sports card collector.

Bring it on little man. I’m already standing behind you.

Ok… did that last line sound creepy? I didn’t really intend for it to sound creepy. It was meant to scare, but it just sounds creepy to me. Oh well.

At least my name isn’t Smith…

          …or Palin….

          …now that would be creepy.

          • If you look at his past auctions, he’s sold stuff from players who had eligibility at the time. I see a L. James autograph from Feb 2010, Maehl from Dec 2010, etc.

Just to be clear, this isn’t the guy mentioned in the first paragraph in my post. That story is accurate, and I am positive.

The point of the quoted email is to highlight a marijuana problem more than say “ahah! we caught this eBayer!”…probably should have been more clear, but oh well. Ruffled some feathers, but so be it.

          • When a player is done playing and his eligibilty is up he can give away or sell his stuff. Oregon St players do it also, Lyle Moevao’s Orange game worn jersey from the USC win just sold on ebay for $400. Theres gear from teams all over the country there for sale. Of coarse I’m getting defensive, you clowns are accusing me of being involved in a trade for medical marijuana, its not true. Maybe somebody does that but its not. At least I use my real name and give you my phone#. I understand that some of you are angry because we have been kicking your ass on the field lately, but instead of lying about gear for weed scandals why don’t you show up to games and support your team, maybe they will play better.

          • Ps, autographs can be obtained at FanDay every year 2 weeks before the first game of the season. I have never sold any players game worn gear before the were done.

          • Nobody accused you of anything. Someone sent me an email saying the items you had for sale were suspicious. You gave your explanation. Move on.

You are not the person I’m talking about in the first paragraph, and it’s my fault if I wasn’t clear about that and blended the two stories into one. Those are two separate incidents.

And yeah, you have kicked our ass on the field, but the past three Civil Wars will likely be vacated, which is more embarrassing than losing.

          • We as in “Ducks” I know you’re smart enough to figure that out. No, I am not part of the staff or team. Hey AngryBeav, why are you deleting my post? You can run your mouth about me but when I respond you delete it? Coward

          • Your posts weren’t deleted. I can’t even take you serious. You’ve clearly shown an inability to read and you can’t even spell “course”. Typical duck fan.

    • To answer helmsley’s question, Yardbarker followed up on Shaggy Bevo’s leads to start putting cracks in the whole [legitimate Seastrunk recruiting] narration two years ago. There were other UT blogs involved as well, but nothing very cohesive in thought. They all kept at it a while, but left it to stew. Yahoo! picked it up and ran with it, and they’re still running.

        • Man, you’re still on that DH stuff? The idea that only half of the big leagues play real baseball because they don’t use the DH is just ridiculous.

          • I like baseball the way it is…people who like the DH can follow the NL, and people who don’t can follow the AL. I tend to be a purist who favors the NL, but the AL has some exciting offenses, and it’s fun to see the top pitchers in that league try to shut them down. Managerial strategy makes the NL interesting…say Cliff Lee is due to bat and he’s tossing a 1-0 shutout but has thrown 100 pitches…do you pinch hit? In the AL, the double switch is a lost art, too.

Both have their strengths and weakness. It’s great we get to watch both.

  14. I’m hoping a vigorous investigation will go back to how/why Moos was pushed out and Killkenny (OMG they killed kenny!) was inserted–a man without any qualifications to run an athletic department. That has always struck me as slimy and could link to NIKE itself. Then, there is the management of the athletic department under a booster (belotti pushed out in favor of kelly, no contract for belotti, etc). There has to be all kinds of bodies hidden there.

Also remember out PAC12 commissioner flew around the U.S. in Killkenny’s jet.

    • It seems like all of that “petered out” pretty quickly. I don’t even remember, did they reduce Belotti’s outrageous buy out amount? Oregon attorney general gave a half-assed attempt to get to the bottom of it anyway. No way they are going to piss off Uncle Phil.

  15. Angry, I appreciated your philosophy post the other day but didn’t get around to mentioning it until now. I remember when OSU lost the 2009 CW after UO put Blount in. The Beavs would have lost whether or not Blount was in, but I remember thinking that I was proud to support the program that plays classy. I want OSU to do better, but I would still be happier supporting a classy 8-4 team than a 12-1 team that cheats in recruiting and doesn’t punish players for their misbehavior.

On another note, Jacoby Ellsbury is going to be a reserve OF for the All-Star Game.

  16. A little too much “mysticism” with Duck recruiting. May be a “miracle” that their program ever sees a BCS game again after all of this is said and done.

  17. The strange thing about all of this is, why isn’t this being reported? It sounds like it’s common knowledge around Eugene.

    Dated June 14th, 2011 – post by angler1fly on Oregonlive.com

…Cliff is going to need to autograph and sell a bunch more game-worn apparel to his medical marijuana growing friend.

Oops… that one isn’t out there yet. Is it? That… um… rumor… yeah, rumor… has nothing to do with the person who hosted the party that wrecked Kiko Alonso for a night… the person whose house Cliff Harris is seen at quite a bit down here in Eugene… oh, you get the idea.

The house in question isn’t any “insider” info. It’s well known in this neighborhood, and Alonso and Harris aren’t the only players who frequent it. I won’t add any others because they haven’t been the complete morons the first two have been, and i like to think what they burn and inhale doesn’t give them any athletic advantage. While it’s been years since I’ve partaken in any myself, I remain a libertarian in regards to its use.

I do know the grower, and he seems nice enough. But he really shouldn’t be vocally proud of his Duck shrine containing autographed, game-worn apparel… especially when he goes out on the town and has a few cocktails in a crowded bar. And there’s even more to the story which I don’t need to go into here.

If the NCAA doesn’t conclude their fact-finding phase with these issues also coming to light, then we will also know that they don’t bother hiring investigators who can see snow while in Antarctica. Many of us already suspect as much anyway.

Like I said, it’s not “insider” info.

The only thing I can think of is that there’s somebody bigger than the NCAA investigating this scandal.

The FBI recently indicted the drug dealer who was dealing with half the Ohio State team and we didn’t hear about that in the papers until long after it was likely known by a lot of the general public.

Similar? Hard to say. But if it is as widespread as some think, this could absolutely be the BIG story we’ve been hearing about.

    http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2011/06/oregons_cliff_harris_stopped_f/2557/comments-10.html

  18. Really? This is what you are now writing about? If you have proof you should post it and allow it to speak for itself. Or, better yet, send whatever proof you have to the NCAA and let the authorities deal with the matter. But posting rumors and innuendos is just fishing for attention. The bottom line in all of this is 1) the NCAA will do what it does and come down on the Ducks based on what has transpired thus far between Lyles and UofO, which, at this point, is suspicious but without a “smoking gun” and 2) the pent up anger, jealousy and envy from fans from other teams is manifesting in rather ugly, pathetic ways.
Being a UofO grad and die hard Duck fan I am open to intelligently, and rationally discussing the current issues facing the football program but to begin to attempt to “pile on” with internet based rumors is really quite pathetic. As above if you have a “source” that is nearly beyond reproach you should have no compunction in offering up you evidence and let the legal issues fall where they may. To do otherwise only demeans you, your site and those who buy into your hate filled wishful thinking.

    • You may want to check out the football forum and look at a post from Angry titled “how long before Oregon sanctions” dated I believe December 23rd 2010. What would constitute a “smoking gun” by your definition? A televised confession from the Chipster? I would say there are all kinds of “firearms” in the form of previous denials and then letters, e-mails and phone calls.

If you want to believe that a man who has the intelligence to design one of the most innovative college football offenses in decades, would turn around and pay 25k for a half assed recruiting report from a bottom feeder scouting service then you know the Florida swamp cliche. And how is it jealousy and envy to be pissed off at cheating anyway?

  19. Interesting. A few of the writers from beaverblitz were talking about this story on twitter and claiming some farmerfram guy originally brought it up two weeks ago.

  20. A “smoking gun” would be a clear lineage of rules violation. I don’t believe anything as I am not privy to all the information regarding this matter. I think that it is possible that UofO will get sanctions and I could very easily see where they will not. The 25k could be for similar information paid for and received by LSU and Cal., or it could include other misc. information. The issue at hand concerning Lyles and possible NCAA violations is to what extent Lyles influenced recruits, and what the UofO has offered the NCAA. Thus far there has been no solid evidence that he openly steered recruits to any school let alone UofO, and Lyles still maintains he did not. As I have written I would not be surprised if there were sanctions or not but thus far no incontrovertible evidence has arisen to fully implicate the program or its head coach. In the end what will matter is the evidence and means by which it is supplied to the NCAA and what it then decides to do.
What my post is simply illuminating is the degree by which sites such as this have gone to further tarnish the UofO. I have no problem accepting the fact that persons regardless of affiliation, make mistakes and break laws and rules. What bothers me is the mob mentality displayed by this post and the subsequent reactions. Once again what I’d like is to have one and all have the integrity to post his/her real name and site any/all sources if they are truly credible. There is nothing here regarding the Ducks (on this specific post) that I would feel proud of if I were a Beaver fan, and that is disappointing to me.
None of us who are fans of big time college sports should be surprised illicit behavior, cheating, and lying occur as the pressure to perform and succeed are enormous. To delight and celebrate the potential sanctions and downfall of a fellow program, even an in state rival, is not palatable to me. Ultimately if any program receives sanctions for abrogating rules is negatively effects all of college football. I dislike the huskies absolutely but if they were to receive sanctions for violations I would not like them less nor UofO more and, indeed, would feel even more jaded about college football. Eugene is only 60 miles south of OSU but what is currently occurring at UofO undoubtedly is much, much closer than you’d like to admit.

    • You should probably create a blog like this one, dedicated to making Oregon’s athletics better. Then you could write about all their issues, and expend your energy on fixing them rather than arguing with me.

    • Have you read Angry’s previous post “The Problem of Conduct”? I believe that virtue will ultimately “win the day”. You can probably guess which head coach has conducted himself in a virtuous manner through out his career and which head coach is off to a suspect start.

      • I don’t think Casey has ever read the site.
One point of that post was to talk about how I used to praise (and openly envy) the Ducks. Things change. I care a lot more about the Beavers improving than the Ducks imploding. I received some interesting information. I made a post. It was a civic duty, nothing more.

        • You smelled a rat several months ago and offered some interesting thoughts on the subject. I think that is what a good blog is all about. It’s not like you are an investigative reporting for the NY Times (though sometimes I think you could be), you are trying to start conversation amongst your readership, if you can be a little provocative, all the better.

    • I don’t think you should be upset at this website for “tarnishing” UO’s reputation. They have done much on their own to begin to tarnish it. I could talk ad nauseum about the issues but that is beside the point. This is simply an allegation against the university that may or may not be true. If we cannot make allegations in this forum, where would you like us to make it?

Also, why shouldn’t we be highly interested in sanctions against any program? Cheating has always existed in sport, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t actively try to find the corruption. Journalists (and now bloggers) have an absolute obligation to root out the corruption in sport in an attempt to make the sport better. Sanctions may negatively affect a program in the short run but they only make the sport better in the long run.

Finally, I am surprised at your laissez-faire attitude with regard to your program. I would be beyond upset if this was OSU. I would call for the heads of both the head coach and the AD, at this point there is more than sufficient evidence. Sanctions or not, what happened at UO was wrong and in violation of the spirit of the rule. Celebration or no, this is absolutely worth discussion. While it may seem that we are piling on, this is what happens when the spotlight is turned on your program. UO fan will have to simply sit and wait out the storm.

  21. I’m not certain I would categorize this as an argument, I am simply expressing my disappointment in the fact you referenced a source with no name while implicating a program and its players. I responded because I am a Duck fan and thus feel compelled to take issue with you posting rumors and innuendos. I have argued with you in the past and felt you had interesting perspectives and opinions. I had thought your apparent cynicism would preclude you from posting based on “unnamed” sources, especially when it is so inflammatory and sensational. I was wrong and that led to my response. What is further disturbing is the obvious glee and delight many have taken regarding the possibility of eventual sanctions and that made me reflect on the broader issue of the pressures implicit in big time college sports. I guess I always assumed that being a rival had limits and that the limits included celebration when it allegedly cheated to the point of onerous sanctions. I did not delight in the penalties imposed on usc as I saw that as further evidence of the corrosive nature of huge money in sports. I thought that might be shared on this site regarding any other program. I was wrong.
I don’t believe any blog has any influence on any program for good or ill so I would not take the time to create one. I do however, enjoy reading about those things for which I have passion and do, on occasion offer up my opinions.

    • Anonymity is not rare. And I don’t make up stories.

If I’m wrong come back and tell me. My track record with this kind of thing is good, so I wish you the best in your skepticism. There are people in this comment area (and on other sites) saying this is all common knowledge on campus.

  22. First off I have read this site and as I wrote above I have argued with you before. I don’t really care where your alliance lies nor if you love, hate or are indifferent to UofO. I cannot believe that you wrote that it was your civic duty to attempt to sully anyone on your site with no hard evidence but, as I wrote that is my failing in giving you more credit than I had given you in the past.
I am not attempting to come across as sanctimonious but to perhaps broaden the discussion beyond your current purview. You can joke and laugh all you want but in the end, if UofO is found guilty of violations it benefits OSU not a wit. I further contend that is will hurt your program both directly and indirectly. Directly because many outside of the Pac 12 do not know the difference between the two schools and indirectly because it taints college football as a whole. If you find that funny and wish for more, I’m sure there are frat brothers with big, fat, wooden paddles to make you absolutely giddy.
So laugh it up and revel as you will but I will not be surprised if in the future, your program too is implicated in wrong doing and cheating. It comes with success, and when it does I for one will not be celebrating.

    • You’re upset about your team, and therefore being manipulative (i.e. “you’re above this, Angry”) and trying to turn this around and make it about me.

I received interesting information and shared it. I don’t really care about the Ducks unless they’re doing something interesting, which they are doing right now.

If the Beavers had more going on, I’d probably be talking about that.

    • It’s too bad you feel shame about the wrong doings of the team you follow. If your team is that related to your ego, you need some serious introspection. Remember allegations must start somewhere, in this case they started here. Live with it.

    • So we are supposed to hope and pray the UofO program escapes violations so it does not “hurt” the OSU program? Give me a break. If they are found guilty then they should be punished, let the chips fall where they may for the Beavers.

You obviously don’t get this site, we spend plenty of time debating, arguing and criticizing the Beav program. In the past, we haven’t spent much time of the Ducks except to praise them on their progress, now it appears that progress may have come with some disclaimers.

Again think about the Duck head coach and then the Beavers head coach and who does their job in “the light of day”. That is ultimately where you will find the truth.

    • You suggest that being implicated for cheating “comes with success.” Laughable. Being implicated for cheating comes with cheating, not success.

  23. Holy cow. To further beat this dead, dead horse: I’m not turning anything around, I am simply expressing my disappointment that you’d be willing to post rumors without siting hard evidence nor sources. The post is inflammatory and sensational and accusatory and the reactions were celebratory in nature. None of that is turning anything around, that is what is. You may be right, maybe the entire team engages in heroin BBQs with crack soda served cold by Chip Kelly personally. Maybe A.D. Mullens kills hookers and serves the cold crack in their severed heads while dancing the mamba to satanic tunes. After all I have a secret source that told me and he’s really, really reliable.
College sports has been and will always be corrupt and filled with money. The notion of “If you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t tryin’.” Certainly applies. I frankly am not ashamed of angry even if UofO paid Lyles to influence the recruits. I see very little difference between paying your in house recruiter to get close to young teens and someone who has already done the job for you. I think the whole notion of “street agents” needs to be fleshed out and dealt with in both football and basketball, not because I have an moral issue with the overall practice but that I feel keeping it hidden further enslaves the kids and keeps the power with the skanky adults who run the affairs.
My point is, that NO PROGRAM (Say it ain’t so) EVEN THE BEAVS, is without sin nor malfeasance. Best to allow that which is already aired be dealt with and only perform your “civic duty” when you actually have evidence to supply and have the integrity to file it under your real name.
Now, if you feel that’s turning things around then I believe that’s your guilt barometer speaking to you.

      • So, you’re admitting that what you have done is immature (ala not what a mature parent figure like “dad” would be for).

    • You seem to rationalize some things very well but I agree there are probably programs at OSU that cheat. OSU Football, I highly doubt that they cheat, they don’t do anything well enough to actually have cheated.

Regarding sources, so do you believe that all sources should be disclosed? I think there is quite a bit of validity in keeping sources anonymous. You would be insane to disagree.

    • I know, I know, and the rumprs about some character named ‘Willy’ were ‘accusatory, sensational and speculativel to you too, right? Hell, some Duck fans still refuse to accept the latest news about him as well.

Denial, ain’t gonna make it so, bro.

    • Mounting your high horse must be quite a chore. Saying that Beaver fans are fascinated by the Willie Lyles story because they are jealous of the Ducks is a tired, and frankly lame, argument. From Chip Kelly stating on air that he didn’t know Willie Lyles to the outdated recruiting spreadsheet, this has become a great story from everyone’s perspective but the Ducks

Truthfully, from a fan’s perspective, most of the back and forth between schools is made in good fun. The internet trolls which populate O-live message boards and sanctimoniousness fans such as your self, ruin the rivalry by taking everything too seriously. Why do you honestly care if some “rumor” is posted on a blog, a blog which you believe has “no influence on any program for good or ill”? Even if the story turns out to be false, it is still an interesting/funny story, a story which is ripe for internet speculation. In fact, the whole Willie Lyles fiasco started as an internet “rumor”, if I’m not mistaken.

BTW the smoking gun is the $25,000 check, made out to Willie (now a self admitted street agent) Lyles, from the UNIVERSITY OF OREGON ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT.

  24. That’s all right son, I just thought I’d raised you better than that. Once again the failings of the son edify the father.

    • Casey,

I too have a degree from UO (and OSU). I hate the way the corporate takeover of the UO has devalued my diploma. The colors are green and yellow NOT what NIKE has dictated as part of THEIR brand (human highlighter pens at the BCS for instance). If OSU was run exclusively by Monsanto, people would think that was horrendous. Somehow having a similar insidious corporation calling the shots at a university is no worries there (Jock Box, really? What an embarrassment!). What had been a sleepy left wing liberal arts school (UO) has turned into a win at any cost SEC school. I read a comment on one of the Oregonian stories about confidence in Kelly that said they were proud of how he could navigate the “grey area” of ethics. Really? Is that what the UO has become? Proud about what they think of as “kind of” cheating and getting away with it because of the bowl games. Is that really what you want UO to represent? Cheat on wife, taxes, etc. and if I get away with it that is okay?

Nothing occurring on this blog is celebrating the poor management at UO. It is following the trail to what most of us suspected all along. All UO fans seem to have taken a course in deflection. Any criticism of UO is countered by “all elite schools do this” or worse, a recent civil war score.

I could go on, but lastly, I rooted for USC when they played Texas. I like the Huskies. I identify with WSU. I would root for ANY PAC 10/12 in a bowl game or especially a national championship with the exception of UO. Duck fans have the well deserved reputation of being so arrogant that NOBODY likes them (this is supported by research). This includes their conference mates. Basically, UO has fewer supporters in its own conference than USC. Tragic. That’s all attitude. No humility.

Believe me, I could go on….

I wish you the best of luck but I am afraid our school is headed for a long period of sanctions and Kelly will be coaching in the SEC. Rich Brooks was the apex of UO accomplishments and ethics.

      FatDog

  25. Wow….I only read this blog today, but had seen angrybeav’s comments on OregonLive for a long time.

He and other folks are really digging into this UO thing. Good work, guys! This is what investigative journalism is all about. And there is nothing wrong with informed speculation, despite the moaning and denial of the UO uberfans.

What I see is this. Considering the copious texts and phone calls and the direct involvement of the UO head coach, there is no question in my mind that NCAA rules have been violated. Lyles manipulated both James and Seastrunk and was paid $25k for no other reason that has come forth. He drove UO coaches around when they went recruiting in Texas. I got this from a lengthier quote on OregonLive:

“It is not permissible for a recruiting/scouting service or employees of such service to act as an intermediary between a prospect and an NCAA institution (e.g., assits in arranging recruiting contacts, relaying information other than personal information).”

I dont know about the handwritten notes shown by Lyles, as he could have forged them. But if so, UO should sue him out of existence. They instead hired a “cleaner” to mitigate damages.

As I understand it, the USC and tOSU sanctions were for things out of the coaches’ hands, and still resulted in sanctions and both coaches leaving. At UO, the head coach was directly involved. Surely the sanctions should be more serious with that the case.

This is a sad revelation for state of Oregon sports. After the Belotti scandal, the new UO President promised to clean up the athletic department. It looks like he either didn’t follow through, or was forestalled.

    Keep digging, folks!

  26. To those of you who decided to really lower the bar on this blog by going personal, you are the cream of the crop and go a long way in proving that many who gather with the same view go a long way in coarsing our dialogue.
There are rules and then there are ethics and sometimes they align and sometimes they do not. I for one really don’t care if a player decides to sell his gear for tattoos and think the fact that the NCAA says he can’t is rather silly. In fact, I’d argue that it is unethical to keep him from doing so as, if it is his gear he should be able to do with it that he wants. What crossed the line for me was Tressel knowing it and then lying about it. That was, for me, where the unethical aligned with the rules violations.
So lament the corporatization of the UofO as it is a blatant example of money in sports, but it is not the only example. Big money has been a part of big sports for as long as there has been money. Nike simply places a face (logo) on its product (UofO). The Ducks, for better or worse are the Las Vegas of college football. “See everyone, what you get when you allow unfettered money to snuggle up to big, athletic bodies in ever changing uniforms?” ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, Bleacher Report, Fox Sports Net…One could go on and on listing the corporations that influence the college sports we watch and love. Ever hear of NBC and Notre Dame? There is nothing new under the sun guys, just a bit brighter perhaps and closer to our home.
As I wrote I’m not trying to be sanctimonious just trying to point out that one should not cast stones, blah, blah, blah. You don’t denigrate UofO without, in some way implicating your school and all like it. There is an alphabet soup and OSU is swimming right along with UofO and tOSU and USC etc., etc. Gleeful, delighted celebration on others bad deeds and possible sanctions only comes around the Karmic wheel, is my point.
Lastly, “Angry” is NOT a journalist of any kind, investigative or human interest. A true journalist uses at least two independent sources for verification and a byline. See the difference? One is accountable and willing to print what he knows as fact and then backs that up by going to court if need be to solidify his position of truth.
I do not think a blog has influence on a program but I do think it has influence on those looking for influence and who can be manipulated. See religion, cults, and time shares. If you all like the taste of cool aide then you all are more subject to drinking it if it comes from what you all deem a reputable dealer. I was under the impression that there was enough skepticism on this site that the cool aide wouldn’t flow so freely or be consumed with such wanton abandon. I was wrong and was subsequently disappointed. That’s all. Evidently bringing that up has pecked a few wounds open and made some of you get all personal.
In the end we well all see what happens with the NCAA and UofO. I was hoping that the bottom feeders were not going gather and do their thing. I guess the draw of sensationalistic, dramatic stories is too strong and they gather regardless of best interests.

    • Based on your comments, and others like you, the team mascot in Eugene should be the Ostriches, not the Ducks.

No one here is drinking any Kool-aid, people here just happen to have the innate ability to read, comprehend and form reasonable conclusions. If you are looking for Kool-aid, you need look no further than your own refrigerator.

“What crossed the line for me was Tressel knowing it and then lying about it. That was, for me, where the unethical aligned with the rules violations” Yet the Chipster’s actions, and lies, seem to be fine with you. Hypocrisy goes well with Kool-aid I guess.

    • Casey, I suggest you get down off of your high horse and stop beating this dead one. Try to get past your disappointment, the weather is great outside and today we have especially good reason to reflect upon our country’s history. Happy Independence Day!

    • Casey

You were the one who really went personal — see your original post. If I ran a blog, anyone who went off like you did would be banned. But then I dont like to see any name calling, including Yucks, and the various plays on Kelley’s name.

Grab the bull by the tail and face the situation (from W C Fields). UO has shot themselves in the foot and got the NCAA on their case. You cant be that blatant about it and have no one notice. And once the NCAA gets on yer case, stuff like this thread is going to come to the surface. So this is a valid discussion.

As to what journalism is all about these days, you havent been watching the media much, have you? Scumsucking and muck raking is what it is all about nowdays. But stating that something is from a rumor, is in fact valid invesigative journalism. In lots of invesigations, rumors are what you start with. Murder trials often start with nothing, but can end with a death penalty. A blog like this is taking what you heard and speculating on it in public.

Best interests? Is it really in UO’s best interest to run an illegal, out of control football program? Did you not want to know about it, as long as they were winning? The denial seems to say that, yes, you dont want to know.

I would rather see UO honest and an also-ran, than as NC and cheating.

  27. The bottom line is that nobody did this to Nikegon but themselves. To play the victim card is as arrogant as playing the undeserved victor card. If you cheat, I am happy when you are caught. And it does NCAA football and especially your conference and your immediate rivals a great deal of good in that it clears the air and levels the playing field. When you kick, bite, scratch and whine your way to the top, why would you expect anyone to catch you on the way down? When you crow about doing the the “right way”, but you’re nowhere near clean, why do you propose an alliance formed from sympathy.

Not everyone cheats. Everyone probably breaks NCAA bylaws here and there, but they don’t often do it intentionally. And they report it quickly and quietly to the NCAA in order to show they were acting honestly, if not by the book.

What Nikegon has done is bad in two ways. They acted knowingly against the rules. Anyone who thinks no violations have been shown conclusively to be broken has not taken the time to even simply understand NCAA bylaws. Hell, those who deny any wrongdoing don’t even allow themselves a historical understanding of NCAA sports and recruiting. Maybe all you see is jaywalking, and that would be fine. But to deny even that took place makes the issue exponentially worse. If it were just jaywalking, this issue would have been reported and gone in the wind years ago.

But these guys have been adding shallow graves to their front yard for years, and everyone thinks it’s funny to deny that they’re graves because they lack headstones. What’s worse is that the first grave was uncovered, and it turned out to be a bunch of stolen goods and cash from a bunch of recent robberies and bank heists.

“Whew,” says their fans. “We told you there were no bodies in those 20 or so shallow non-graves. Nothing to see here. Let’s all just go home now and be glad that we don’t have a serial killer in our neighborhood, because, wow, THAT would be bad for the neighborhood.”

    Ummm… yeah.

There’s no way I’m buying the “removing the serial killer from your neighborhood is bad for you and your neighbors too” argument. Why do they even try?

So if you want to hide behind the same cliche arguments like “the NCAA is a bunch of morons” (I’m sure they personally love that one) or “that guy has no credibility because he did lots of illegal things… but not with our knowledge… even though we were with him doing the same things… except we weren’t” or “unnamed sources have no validity” or “everyone hates us… WHAAAAA”… well, fine. Just don’t expect anyone to listen to that crap and think you have any common sense.

The whole of the athletic department is in deep, deep doo doo. And what’s funny is that it’s their own shit, and they don’t think it stinks. And there are some who will back them until the bitter end and beyond.

    Media apologists are jumping ship:
“Be very concerned Duck Nation. Oregon is in line for major penalties, the kind that burn a program to the ground. USC-like. Kelly’s job could be in jeopardy. This is not USC looking the other way while Reggie Bush took money, this is a willful attempt to gain a recruiting and competitive advantage.”
    http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6270202/30370011?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

If it took this long for a “reporter” to see the simple truth of the matter, why would we expect the blindly faithful to even begin to understand what’s going on?

    • the NCAA is a bunch of morons (I’m sure they personally love that one)

Especially given their president is an ex-Husky…haha.

  28. I love how many duck fans seemed to be shocked that rivals are poking fun at their favorite (i’m sure many have never attended) schools. If the tables were reversed and it was Oregon State facing this scenario, this and many other sites would be over run with duck posters. I also doubt very much, that they would be full of sympathy and compassion for their bitter RIVAL.

To also act surprised that a website dedicated to one school, would not talk about an in state rival is even more hilarious. Again, if the tables were reversed, how many duck sites would be discussing the beaver’s woes? It’s the off season, and Oregon States poor season has already been discussed at length. This is much more entertaining.

Also, angry has already stated he’s a blogger not a journalist. Please step off you high horse.

    • “If the tables were reversed and it was Oregon State facing this scenario, this and many other sites would be over run with duck posters. I also doubt very much, that they would be full of sympathy and compassion for their bitter RIVAL.”

If this was OSU’s problem, Duck fans would have a hard time adding anything constructive, bitter or otherwise to the torrential shit storm I would have been writing for the last four months. I would be absolutely livid at our school and athletic department as a whole for hiring someone like Kilkenny to be AD.

So I would pretty much scream bloody murder for days and months on end until everyone involved performed a very public seppuku… twice.

      • Yep, if this were reversed I’d be going after the AD and then the coach. I’d also petition the university stop accepting Phil Knight’s money, but that would/will never happen. That’s where his particular problem starts…

      • I agree that most here would be calling for the entire AD, HC and who ever else is responsible heads. I might not he screaming as loud (public speaking is a skill I lack), but I would be right there, pitchfork in hand.

The ducks with all their butt hurt denial….. I wont lie, I smile when ever I think about it! It wouldn’t be a rivalry if we jumped to the defense of the ducks, instead of jumping on them.

    • bornbeaver. You’re right. I don’t think many are surprised that Beavers are excited by this. I’m not. Just be honest about the reasons. Beaver fans should stop pretending like there is any reason, moral or otherwise, that they spend more than 5 minutes on this story, other than a rivalry over a game. I can list 30+ issues in the world involving morality that have far more substantial implications than whether or not Lyles represented the UO while being paid. If this was about morality for Beavers, this would be the last issue they would be frothing over.

Also, I have yet to see “angry” respond to the central complaint casey has made. That starting unsubstantiated rumors about people is unethical. When news outlets use anon

      • You think this garbage is unsubstantiated?

You probably think the NCAA doesn’t know about it either.

You’re just so cute, with all your blind fandom and everything sitting out in the open waiting to be shattered into a million little pieces.

Now go away. I don’t like cheaters, and you bother me.

        • Clearly, these are not substantiated claims. Until someone goes on record or provides evidence, they remain unsubstantiated rumors.

It’s sad that, for some people, rooting for sanctions is what football is for them.

          • NCAA compliance has the smoking gun.

You can say anything is sad. I can say it’s sad you’re rooting for cheaters to get off, or sad you rooted for cheaters the past 3 years, etc etc. This is once again a cheap insult and deflection from the issue.

  29. Casey,

It is kind of bizarre that you have picked this blog to fight your battle. If anything, there is a very high level of thoughtfulness here from almost everyone who chooses to comment. I am sure there are numerous Beaver fans on OregonLive as we speak who are firing juvenile salvos at the Oregon program and you could fire back with some justification to your arguments. I sense you do battle here because you know the commentary is well reasoned and hits the bullseye more often than not..

    • I think he’s here because he takes offense to the “rumors” I posted…and he takes offense to the “rumors” because he fears they’re true. He’s being highly manipulative and trying to make me feel like a “bad journalist” (i.e. “I’m so disappointed in you, Angry”) or some other inadequacy. This is likely because he is scared bigger outlets will investigate and/or he wants me to feel as bad as he does. The thing is I feel great about what I wrote, and I think if it’s investigated it will be proven true. Nothing Casey writes will change that, so he is better off picking another battle, but here we are, debating in circles.

      • I read this blog quite often and the many comments just to catch a bit of what “the enemy” is saying. I appreciate your honest, critical few of OSU football especially. However, this post in particular seems to take the typical OSU fan viewpoint of Oregon football which is usually weak and flimsy at best. I’m concerned a great deal about what is going on with the Oregon program, but to me your opinions are pretty baseless and unsubstantiated. The link has since been pulled from ebay. But after looking at a lot of the items up for sale and some that I had noticed had been recently sold, I can tell you that the socks and gloves that were being pawned off as “game issued” I could have gotten at the annual spring Oregon surplus sale for about a buck apiece. The same goes for the cleats as well because those were about 50 bucks or so. I also bought a game issued jersey there two years ago from a lesser known player. People can also collect autographs from preseason events as well. Another thing, if Kiko Alonso had been arrested in a Pot house, even if a legal grow, I think police would have snooped around a little bit more and it would have been publicized a lot more. Don’t you?

  30. When the intent is obvious and understood is it still “manipulation”? I don’t mind running in circles, god knows I need the exercise! Angry, I would take his doggedness as a bit of a compliment, I think your reputation for accuracy has him very concerned and he is using every tactic he can to “nip this in the bud” (marijuana pun intended)!

  31. The funny thing is that this story is nothing compared to the Lyles story in that it won’t affect the program beyond a couple individual players… so long as Nikegon self-reports it. This is the tOSU story without the coaching staff’s knowledge or any attempt to cover it up… or a written affidavit that neither of those conditions exist when they do.

Alone, you’re looking at this story suspending some players for a handful of games. But on top of the Lyles situation, the cars, and the basketball investigation, this and all the minor violations reported by the baseball team all add up to an extreme lack of control.

  32. The Cliff Harris incident is something I would like opinion on. He drives 118 in a rental car he had no right to drive, with a suspended license, and it turns out he had, surely, done this sort of speeding many times before, because he had been caught doing several previous times. He had never acknowledged doing it, as he had never paid a fine or even appeared in court. Does the athletic department not know of such things? It seems they only reacted when it hit the news. Did they really not know any of this, before?

    • I don’t know what obligation Harris would have to report previous traffic tickets to his coaches, but if he was not able to drive because of a suspended license, one would think it would be common knowledge in the “clubhouse”. With a suspended license, he had to have previously been to court and received some form of “punishment”, right? My thought is how stupid could he be to talk someone into renting a car for him and then blatantly violate traffic laws? I also thought (and I could be wrong) that going that far over the speed limit becomes reckless driving and carries stiffer penalties i.e. fines in the thousands, not hundreds of dollars. Who’s going to pay for that? Oh well, he is suspended for one game, so that seems to have satisfied the Oregonian.

      • I am sure you are right about 118 being possible to ticket as “reckless driving”, but I suspect the officer either knew or was informed of the stature of the player on the UO team, and chose the lesser offense. The license could, and probably was, suspended after Harris was a no-show on prior citations. According to the O report, he never paid any of the fines and doubtless will not pay this one.

As to the stupidity, there was nothing said about them being drunk or high, but one might suspect they were. It has been said that the officer could have impounded a rental car with no legal driver. The stupidity was the UO employee renting a car for him, as that could be a NCAA violation.

  33. O.K., I promise, this will be my last contribution on this matter and then I’ll let you all hash out as you will. It is a beautiful day out and having just come in form watching my son and his friend playing in the pool has got me less enthused to continually defend my position.
I did not nor do not care how anyone “feels” about what he or she writes. My point was and is that there is a responsible means by which to make allegations and an irresponsible way. in my opinion writing a post with rumors and innuendos under a pseudonym is irresponsible regardless of the subject and especially when they are inflammatory and sensationalistic. In high school we used to foment and pass rumors around too with no thought as to the overall effect on those we talked about and ultimately on ourselves for continuing the practice. As I have grown older (middle age in all honesty) I have learned that such rumors are destructive to the overall discussion and often to real live humans as well. My comments were on the initial post and the subsequent delight and celebration that ensued with nary one voice of question or dissent. In that I was disappointed and I then wrote about that. Now, many have seen fit to attack me personally and subject my posts to conjecture. I am not opposed to sharing opinions but I am opposed to sharing “facts” that are currently not established and then others jumping on board for the sheer joy of watching the potential carnage.
I have absolutely no problem with the NCAA doing what it does and will do. If sanctions occur and heads roll so be it. I happen to feel however, that there is often a difference between what I feel is an abrogation of a moral/ethic and a violation of a rule. Take Cliff Harris as an example. He is an adult and should be treated as so in our society and criminal justice system, but that is different than that of his role on the Ducks. In that arena he ultimately will be charged, convicted and sentenced by the university and his coach as that is the appropriate role of that institution. You may then disagree with his punishment based on your own ethical code, and if so, I’d hope you’d be able to express that in rational, logical means. There are some who believe that playing for a team is a privilege and should then be treated more harshly than the law would, and others that would argue that being on a team gives him a better more constructive means to rehabilitate himself and mature more fully and more quickly than if he were kicked off. I count my opinion as being superfluous as I do not know the young man, nor can I accurately judge his potential.
I am not hiding my head regarding the Ducks nor their current issues with recruiting. What I’d like to see from just one of you is a full, complete documentation of what it is in the NCAA rules, regulations and guidelines they have violated. It’s not that I am certain they did not, it is precisely that I DON’T know that I write this. You all seem to think it’s a done deal but I have read nothing here that details such from an NCAA perspective. As I have written before, the NCAA will do as it does and it may come down to harsh sanctions or it may not. I really can see it going either way. I just think a deeper discussion on street agents, 7 on 7 camps, mentors and “relationships” developed in recruiting could be had that would further the discussion positively as opposed to lazily, and in an ugly fashion.
So go out and enjoy your 4th and love the summer weather we’ve all missed here in Oregon. In the end, if wishing bad things happen to your rival gives you delight and glee then so be it. It does. But don’t expect everyone to share in your happiness. And no I would not be happy if OSU or any other “rival” were to be caught “cheating” or such. Not because I love the school itself but because I love the game, and catching cheaters indicates a much, much deeper problem. You see, if your goal is to win, and make no mistake it is for any/all programs then “cheating” will and does happen. The salient issue for me is sussing out the cheating from the immoral and unethical. The young man from OSU who was caugh nude, t in the house of the woman who called 911 and then went into the 3 point stance was not funny to me. The video of Mike Parker eating a napkin was not funny to me. They were not funny to me because they harken to a deeper problem in both of them which does not tickle my funny bone. It’s not funny to me because even though they are my “rivals” their problems do not make “my” team stronger and do nothing to uplift the game.

    • LOL Casey, everyone on a blog is using a pseudonym. I dont expect or care if Casey Cutler is your real name or not. If someone wants to believe it is, that is their right.

All of us on here are expressing our opinions. Its the American way. Maybe you would be happier in a totalitarian country where folks dont get to express themselves.

Its an interesting issue. I understand that you, as a UO fan, are disturbed by the recent developments. You should be. Lyles has damned the UO football program and the UO has not replied in any real way to refute what he says.

As to what specific rules have been broken, the story is still developing and the NCAA is investigating. Meanwhile, chew on this:

“It is not permissible for a recruiting/scouting service or employees of such service to act as an intermediary between a prospect and an NCAA institution (e.g., assits in arranging recruiting contacts, relaying information other than personal information).”

Lyles manipluated both James and Seastrunk, and was in personal contact with UO coaches while he did so. He drove UO recruiters around when they were in Texas. It dont look good.

What does Mike Parker, the OSU radio announcer, being an alcoholic have to do with anything? You really got low class there. The player caught nude in someone elses house was kicked off the team….’nuff said. Was Cliff Harris kicked off the team?

      • Yes, everyone is using a pseudonym. Why? What’s to hide? I have no problems with opinions, I have a problem with presenting rumors as facts and then having others agree with no critical thinking displayed. I don’t think suggesting I, or anyone live in a totalitarian country adds any intelligence to the conversation and further proves my point.
The quoted portion is from what source and when was it written? If this is true and from the NCAA then Oregon is not the only program implicated by Lyles as he has stated he helped Auburn, Cal., Tex. Tech, and even Oregon State with recruiting players. If you believe him he has assisted many Texas high school players to programs all over the country. By your quoted definition the net would cover many, many schools.
My point regarding the player and Mike Parker is that seeing a problem that has a deeper cause and hints at a serious disease is not funny to me and shouldn’t be seen as being a problem of the individual. They are us in effect and by laughing at them we simply demean ourselves. To use an analogy, if my neighbor I dislike has moles in his yard it’s funny, but really that fence only seems like a barrier and those little buggers don’t respect it as such, so his moles are my moles and we should really work together to eradicate them to help us both even if we don’t like each other much.
The recruiting issues are not limited to UofO or the SEC, or any one entity people. It is a disease that is EVERYWHERE. Including your school. The symptoms that seem so funny to you bespeak a deeper issue and one that should be taken seriously for the overall health of the sport we all love.

        • Ahhhh…

The ubiquity of ambiguity is so beautiful when it blossoms into a hasty generalization.

Unfortunately, it only blooms once before someone with half a brain steps on it.

  34. I guess it is appropriate that you are setting off “verbal smokescreens” on the 4th of July. For some reason, I have read you latest post twice and find very little that applies to this BLOG. Again, I find it very curious that you chose this place as your battlefield. I sense that Nostra-Angry is on the right path! And what I like best is that if Angry is off base he is always the first to admit it.

  35. The Beavers may have been in two Rose Bowls without Oregon’s cheating for all we know. We have waited almost 50 years and Oregon’s actions had a major impact on half the state. It very much looks like it took Duck cheating to prevent OSU from a parade and visit to Pasadena on New Year’s.

    • Not at all sure I go along with the premise. It’s a little like saying a close game would have been won if only the referee hadn’t made a bad call. I would prefer that because of recruiting and coaching and facilities the Beavs had won never mind Oregon’s rotten core.

    • I’m not sure that I would go that far. So far, Oregon is merely accused of paying $25 grand for Lache Seastrunk—a player who has not even played a down yet for Oregon. As far as LaMichael James goes, he had offers from Minnesota, Mississippi State, and a few others. It wasn’t much of a choice. Deciding on Oregon would not have taken any persuasion from Will Lyles. All he did supposedly was help get LaMichael his diploma and into school.

        • Go back and look and see how good those teams were the season before he committed. Nebraska was a joke because Bill Callahan made it so. TCU had just started their run of success. And Arkansas was a middle of the road SEC team at best. Meanwhile, Oregon had risen to #2 in the nation in the 07’ season. I had always heard that for whatever reason LaMichael’s final three choices were Oregon, Minnesota, and TCU. On 1080am the fan a few days ago, Will Lyles said the same thing and LaMichael ended up deciding on/picking Oregon because of the system the Ducks were running.

  36. Casey, your writing smells of that of a lawyer. Stand back and gain some perspective before you start writing. You are on a blog that starts with the name ANGRY. I should stop here because that should be enough for you to realize that we are not reponsible for anything but to express our feelings and share our thoughts on sports. Why are you interested in a Beav forum anyways? Go back to your forum and see if you can find some interesting information like you do here. We criticize our team, we pass jugdement here, we want the truth here. Take off the yellow and green glasses or is white, black, carbon fiber, grey and smell the duck shit. Something stinks in the
program. Instead of coming here and judging us, you should be doing something to find the truth and hold the team you admire responsible.

  37. So who is sending this information to an actual journalist so it can be investigated and brought to light with facts? I believe it’s happening – no question in my mind. But just discussing in the comments section of a blog isn’t enough. I want this story to be in headlines in national newspapers. The lack of integrity at UofO is disgusting and they need to pay for their transgressions.
