According to Eggers, the new hire has NFL experience as a player and coach.
Here's Perry's bio: Click me
Given that Riley was in Indiana last week (we thought for recruiting, but likely to meet with Perry) and loves former Rams, I think this is the best guess. We'll find out Monday.
If Perry is the guy, how do you feel about it? Personally, never liked the Colts secondary. Played very soft zone and a bend/don't break style for as long as I can remember. So, I'm not even convinced he's a great coach, never mind recruiter. It's just my initial reaction. But, to be fair, I don't know much about the guy, and it sounds as if he only played a bit part in the Colt's D schemes.
PS. For those who missed the recruiting note: Brice is now a LaTech commit.
Shelton retaking the SAT this late in the game screams NQ.
Makes Wallace a huge priority. Things look 60/40 in favor of the Beavs with him…
Perhaps he is retaking it to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship?
NMSQT is the PSAT.
I know. Joke.
I thought Wallace just said he was a “solid beav commit” 2 nights ago? What leads you to think it’s still 60/40?
Probably just healthy Beav fan skepticism. When something is critical, Riley fucks it up.
Wallace said Thurs. night that he has chosen OSU over Wash. and Boise..He will be a Beav.
Well, 60/40 implies he’ll be a Beav. But, he’s always had an ear open, and loves Heyward, so I still don’t think it’s 100% solid. He’s waffled enough and said enough good things about Wa/BSU that I’m sure they’re still in the picture a little bit (20%) each.
NO, he will be a Beav…Thurs. night via ESPN insider “I’ve eliminated both Washington and Boise St. as choices next year after visiting both campuses. It was very close between OSU and Wash., but I’m sticking with the Oregon State”.
So… 61/39?
As long as he doesn’t get any crazy ideas like teaching the players to look for ball, I’m sure he’ll be great!
I don’t know much about the guy, but to have a career in the NFL, you have to know a little about your job. Especially if you maintain that job for multiple years. Gotta wonder how many years the guy wants to be a college coach though and would he really be down with traveling on recruiting trips during the off season?
That’s a fair point…then again, Mike Riley had time in the NFL and he is wildly mediocre, doesn’t understand the subtle art of using time outs, challenge flags, or proper time management. Personally I feel any coach Riley brings on is simply another Yes Man who won’t shake things up.
Perry was the DB coach when Riley was in San Diego.
Oh crap! We are screwed. Novel idea…………..hire from a team that actually plays good D.
And how did that work out?
Haha
Unless something drastic changes, I gotta believe Wallace is w/ us. Otherwise, I mean really……what would be his point in announcing he’ll sign w/ the Beavs a few days ago if he wasn’t planning to?
Maybe he wants to build up our hope, before crushing our dreams.
Well usually guys wait until they play against us to that lol
As a coach, Perry should do just fine. If he couldn’t coach, he wouldn’t have been able to stick around the NFL for 20+ years.
Recruiting wise, that will probably his short coming. But maybe he can really sell the NFL aspect to the upper echelon recruits.
He is 58 years old. This will be a major liability on the recruiting trail both from an energy to do it standpoint and connecting with 17 year olds. I was hoping we would hire a hungry up and comer, but I forgot who our head coach was. The crown prince of disappointment.
My biggest problem with Perry: he’s another “Riley guy”…he’d be too comfortable a hire.
And fire.
“It’s neat to be able to work together again. We hope to recreate our success we shared in SD.”
“I would also like to introduce our new GA…………………Ryan Leaf.”
Angry, could you add a button or link that takes you to the last post(bottom of the page)? It would be awesome for us smart phone users.
Not sure if this is easy to do or not…
I keep bringing this up and hear no response from you Angry. I know others agree and would like to see this.
Thanks Man.
I’m not sure how to do that. I’ll look into it.
It’s easy to set the most recent comment to be at the top, but I think that would annoy most users.

Thanks for taking a look.
When I saw the name “Perry”, I was hoping it was the Fridge. At least that would generate some interest.
Considering he is dead………………….yes that would have been an attention grabber.
Since when?
Yeah, he’s not dead. He almost died a couple years back, but he recovered.
Bring out your dead!

I like this Perry!!

My bad. Thought he croaked.
Goph, you flunk the “dead or not dead” test. Now if I had suggested Perry Como as the next DB coach, you would have had me!
This guy:

at least he turned for the ball. Fortunately he missed.
Couldn’t (and SHOULDN’T) it be THIS “Perry?”

I can only hope
As a Packer fan I would nix that one.
What about this Perry?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Fewell
I like.
What about the Secondary coach that got recently fired from Philadelphia? Johnnie Lynn?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Lynn
One reason it could be Darren Perry.
The announcement is supposed to be Monday. Darren Perry, and the rest of the Green Bay coaching staff, is in Hawaii for the pro-bowl, which is tomorrow. Perfect reason to delay the announcement until Monday. If it were ROD Perry, who is currently unemployed, there’s no reason to delay the announcement.
Then again, I don’t see how this is a step forward for Darren Perry, so it’s probably Rod or somebody else entirely.
A business jet arrived at Corvallis airport Thursday evening from Racine, Wisconsin.
Nevermind…looked on a map where Racine is in relation to Green Bay and it’s probably nothing to do with it.
There is a semi-pro team in Racine. Hope its not one of these guys:
http://www.racineraiders.com/coaches.php
They probably delivered something from Johnson Wax Co.
It makes sense assuming that the contract stipulates that a younger guy with current experience in the NFL is a Defensive Coordinator in waiting, or Head Coach in waiting…but I’d hope for a much higher profile guy if that was the case.
People seem mad about Perry. Well, it’s not like I know that’s the hire. Just speculating based on Riley visiting Indiana and Egger’s article.
This guy fits the description, too.
http://www.chargers.com/team/coaches/cris-dishman/03c60519-1ccd-410f-9484-c0af2b796ae4
This one makes sense if you want a guy with California ties. At this point I’d prefer a young guy with NFL experience (currently employed) that wants to become a Coordinator or HC at the college level vs. An old washout Riley ass kisser.
Perry has CA ties, too.
I completely agree, though. I’d rather have Dishman…younger and less nepotism.
That’s what I was saying, I thought…?
Oh, I read completely disagree…Nm. I need more sleep.
Is it true women’s hoops beat Oregon tonight? I’ll take any win over the Ducks at this point…
True, 67-60

Steve Gress of Gadget Times tweets, “Final score 67-60, Back to back wins for OSU first time in conference play under Rueck.”
That new coach has really done a great job. Wasn’t it only a couple years ago when they hardly won any games and had almost the entire team quit? At 14-7 they have still have a shot at getting invited to a postseason tournament.
yep, funny how probably the two best head coaching hires the athletic department has made in a very long time have both been guys from george fox university of all places. i heard they’re starting a football team in a year or so, maybe we’ll get that guy to replace riley.
Ugh! Love the coaches from there. Love Newberg.
Can’t stand the kids at George Fox.
Most of them will never grow up.
Hey, watch your mouth Jack, my sister in-law is a GF graduate. Nevermind, on second thought….you might be right!
Quackers don’t do as well at football as they do at the more “peaceful” sports, so don’t get your hopes up!
Been going through that NEI website, and my socks were blown off:

HOLY CRAP!
That kid is fast!
Who is he and what year?
Tatum Taylor Bishop O’Dea high school in Seattle Class of 2013 According to rivals he’s been offered by Wyoming and Purdue.

Trent Sewell, class of 2012 is his second cousin (6′ 2″ 205 lbs 4.43 40). According to scout Sewell has committed to Wyoming.

Dang!
Forget Lawler. Offer Sewell.
It’s class of 2013, and don’t judge a book by it’s cover.. seeing as you don’t even know the kid (Lawler).
I’m getting tired just watching his film!
Just received a text from friend/neighbor/Duck fan. “Wife (name) not up for the game today, want to go? Leaving at 1:00” So…. I’ll be at Uncle Phil’s shiny new playpen this afternoon. Should be fun unless we get blown out. So far they haven’t done well on the road.
His seats are a few rows behind the visitor’s bench. I’ve spotted him a few times on tv. Maybe I could slip CR some tips… any advice? JB
If Starks starts taking low percentage shots sit his rear end at the far end of the bench.
According to Oregonlive this is the starting lineup: Ahmad Starks, Jared Cunningham, Devon Collier, Eric Moreland, Angus Brandt
Bad news Re: Chris Young. Committed to Arizona
http://arizonastate.scout.com/2/1153273.html
*Arizona State
Meh… it happens. I love his game, but now he gets to play for a dream coach.
An example of the recency effect though? Oregon State did not have any players visit this weekend, the last chance to have visitors prior to signing day. At the same time, many of our rivals are having visitors, some of which are players previously committed to OSU like Chris Young. Arizona State got one last chance to blow the guy’s socks off while we just sit back and let it happen. I know we have some coaches on the road this weekend, but wouldn’t it make sense to have a few guys on campus too, in order to keep OSU fresh in their minds?
This sucks. We really needed this kid to upgrade speed at LB. NCAA is right on this.
I have a bad feeling we have a number of last minute decoms and signing day surprises.
I know I’m jaded. Have we ever had any good surprises on signing day? Someone give me hope.
“…Have we ever had any good surprises on signing day? Someone give me hope….”
Simi Kuli?
Hey dummies. Look at Rod Perry’s bio before you spew all of this hatred. He didn’t just work for Riley in San Diego and then flounder his way from bad team to bad team. He played in 2 pro bowls with the Rams, and a super bowl–was part of an outstanding defense. He coached at Columbia, Fresno city college and Fresno STate (southern Cal ties). He coached a number of pro-bowl DB’s, and coached Panther and Colt teams that led or were close to the top in interceptions, fewest passing yards allowed, etc. For those complaining that Beaver CB’s “don’t look back at the ball”…Perry’s DB’s get a lot of INTs so you should be happy. How about educate yourselves before whining about the guy.
