  1. These mid-week games are tough. You don’t want to throw one of your regulars and the team you’re playing will so they have an opportunity to beat a top 25 team.

  2. Is this a reschedule of the rained out game from last week? Or is that game still going to be played in Portland?

    • This was an already scheduled game, more than likely the game from last week will not be made up. They usually aren’t.

    • Hey NCAA_ You asked about Costa Rica… just back. Our first time there and we really enjoyed the trip. We were in Tamarindo on the Pacific side. We will probably go back next year. JB

PS: I couldn’t tell from your Cabo comments whether you would recommend??

      • Costa Rica sounds nice. One of my buddies just got back after spending 3 months there. He loved it.

I highly recommend Cabo. It’s got something for everybody. Go during the December-April whale season for some close encounters with some gigantic sea creatures. Also, if you’re into snorkeling, scuba or other water activities, you can’t go wrong. Supposed to be some of the best scuba around there. Underwater sandfalls, whale sharks, sea lion colonies, tropical fish.

If the Cabo nightlife isn’t your things, just stay in nearby Todos Santos, San Jose Del Cabo or La Paz. You really can’t go wrong. The Cabo nightlife is pretty fun though, so I recommend having a few Margarita’s at a nice restaurant and check it out once you’re feeling a little silly. There’s also off roading in baja, rock climing and other outdoor activities. Don’t be afraid to leave the hotel grounds and explore a little. It’s pretty safe there and the locals were really friendly. And if you’re not into the active lifestyle, just hang out on the beach or spend some hours by the pool with a good book.

  3. Riley Wilkerson is starting tonight. He hasn’t been too impressive so far this season. Joey Matthews in CF and leading off tonight and Keyes is playing 3B and Gorton is the DH. Haven’t seen this lineup yet this season.

  4. Schultz’s inconsistency shows there. He makes good pitches and is working ahead and then doesn’t execute and gives up an RBI single.

  5. Beavers got something going here. Runners on first and second and no outs for their best hitter. Hope they don’t have Tyler bunt

  6. Is Parker’s voice inaudible on the stream for anyone else? Kind of nice just listening to the crowd, the ball hitting the mitt…..feels like I’m actually at the game.

  7. This HP ump making some interesting ball and strike calls. 3-1 pitch looked like a ball and 3-2 pitch looked like a strike. Resulted in a Beavers run though.

  8. Rodriguez inconsistency burns the Beavs. I really like his attitude and moxie, he has made a number of nice throws to catch runners, but this inconsistency thing can be a killer.

    • It really hurts the pitchers. It puts pressure on them to execute and pitchers are hesitant to bury pitches in the dirt to get batters to chase because they fear he won’t block it. This leads to breaking balls hanging a little bit and being more hittable. He needs to be better. He’s good at throwing runners out but not good at blocking pitches by any stretch.

    • Yes, multiple times. Conforto is a monster and teams are not going to want to face him with a base open. If Davis can get hot again he will see some as well. Dunn will take advantage.

      • Agree, especially on the Dunn angle. My original comment was meant to mean seeing them get IBB’s consecutively, requires special circumstances.

        • Yeah, I understood what you meant. I think it will happen at least twice. Won’t happen a whole lot but I think it will happen late in games at least twice. That’s really the only time I see it happening in Pac-12 play

  9. Keyes stays with it and makes the tag to end the Pilots seventh. Keyes, Dunn, Rodriguez all have been inconsistent but you gotta admire their focus and effort. They always seem to keep their heads in the game.

  10. Just checked the box score and I’m loving what I see! I know it’s not time yet, but it’s almost to the point where I can say “I told you” about Gorton. Guy just needed some consistent chances.

  11. I’d like to see Gorton as the mid-week starter. Having said that, I think Casey would rather keep him as a long reliever for the weekend games. His stuff looks nasty.

  12. Keyes leads the team with 3 hits, been awhile since we could say that. As steveEbeaver said above, this weekend would be a great time for him to really hit his stride.

    • It is funny that he is listed at 6′ in his highlight video, but 5’9″ on rivals.

Some kids have a tendency to “Shrink” throughout their career a la Trent Richardson, who ended up at 5’9″.

      • I’m one who thinks whenever the ball crosses the goal-line that it doesn’t matter how tall the ball carrier is.

        Maybe that’s just me.

Maybe we take it to a ST specialist at home who we are certain to ignore.

Maybe we ignore home-grown talent so home-grown talent ignores us. Certainly, Nebraska has more talent in-state thanwe do. No?

Draw those kids in and make our team a homegrown affair. Make the decision us or the Evil Empire. That’s what rivalry is all about.

        No?

  13. Based off the description provided by the OSU insider who described the next Reser stadium plans as he saw them, with an OS in the middle and similar endzones I have done the mockup of something very similar to what we will likely see this fall. I would rather we go to a checkered endzone look for 2012. You could still have words within the checker design if needed and it would be better than repeating our current bland look.

Oregon State’s notorious nice guy changes his tune

Meet the new sheriff, same as the old sheriff … sort of. On Day 1 of spring practice at Oregon State Tuesday at the indoor center, here was notorious “nice guy” head coach Mike Riley chewing gum furiously, jaw clenched, actually yelling at players. “Hey, Michael Doctor, what is THAT?” Riley barked at his starting weakside linebacker. And later, “Don’t (mess) this up!” Riley told his wide receivers. No question, there is a certain intensity to spring ball here after back-to-back losing seasons. “We’ve been so disappointed the last two years,” said Riley. “This is step-by-step, detail-by-detail, one inch by one inch.” Riley said. “These are good kids, they’re good players.” Good enough to get Oregon State back to a bowl game?

    • Yeah, that’s a quote from Buker’s column and until we see/hear more I think it could be Buker’s effort to build up MR. I put more stock in what Silverstream reports here than what we get from Paul Buker.
I’ve said before that by watching Riley’s demeanor from now till the UCLA game one will know if he is any more focused than we’ve seen recently. Still not getting too excited by this report alone. GO BEAVS !

      • i tend to agree, the whole article was kind of predictable. almost like buker decided that he’d just say that riley’s acting tougher now because he couldn’t decide what to write about.

    • Uh negative ghostrider……the pattern is full.

Ok to changing the center logo. The checkered endzone looks bad. The names are just fine. How many endzone designs does anyone remember? Or really care?

        • Makes it look like the Purina Bowl down in Fresno. Nothing I want more than to be associated with Fresno and Knoxville.

The look in Ames is one of the best there is. It works because IOWA is short enough to include the stenciled hawkeye on that end. If we went with all black endzones with orange block lettering spelling out OSU (with secondary logo) on one end and BEAVERS on the other, it works just fine. Then we would have to argue about the secondary logo. Some people like the angry muskrat, which looks nothing like a beaver so we have to write “Beavers” underneath it in a nonuniform and jagged 70’s script. I personally like Benny with the cap… the icon easily associated with OSU since it was designed by a successful marketing company and used for 50 years before we decided to go all high school with the muskrat. But we wouldn’t want to use that since Cal Tech uses him as well. Right? We wouldn’t want to be associated with Cal Tech in any way. Right?

I mean, if you want to get all cool and everything, you can do something like MIT did with their beaver and show him swimming with demon eyes. But then we would have to be asociated with MIT instead of CIT. Out of the frying pan….

It really sucks that Beaverton High has a better helmet and logo than we do.

          • I haven’t read much into the Nike redesign that’s currently underway. Are we going to finally be replacing the angry muskrat logo? Or are the new Nike designs going to be in addition to the angry logo? Just seems like we keep adding more and more logos, but we never completely retire any of the old ones. Its time to put the angry muskrat to sleep.

I agree that Benny with the hat needs to be more prominent. Our little mascot character needs to resemble that look more too, rather than the beefed up Benny the Beaver we see at games. Put a hat on that game and give him a smile. We’re not trying to scare the kids.

          • One other option you could do in the endzones is put a secondary logo towards one side. That way you coud spice it up a little but still keep it mostly clean. For instance you could keep the Reser logos where they are since indications are they will be installed on the 2012 turf and the one turned around. But you could get then put some beaver secondary logo or crest on one side of both endzones and it would give a little flavor. The Baltimore Ravens do something a bit like that I think.

Right now the slight issue I have with ‘Oregon State’ on one side and ‘Beavers’ on the other is the size difference it would require. For that reason it would be tempting to do ‘Oregon St.’ and ‘Beavers’ if you like descriptive endzones because the size difference would be close enough to not be distracting. I don’t love the script below the Angrybeaver but it allows the possibilty of matching ‘Oregon State”s if desired and then it provides the Beavers. Tinker seems to want to redesign a beaver as well as the OSU so I think we might get a better looking one.

I think Tinker’s beaver tail waffle design he is thinking of for the endzones that expands past a traditional checkerboard is meant to provide some of that ‘Beaver’ element.

  15. I added 3 more options and you can vote on all 4 because orange and black checkers seem to be more popular overall. I also like the orange and black look a lot. I think it is a slightly safer look with a little less risk/reward for our national recognition and brand but one that would perhaps have the best pageantry on gameday for OSU fans.

  16. RE: The stadium projection. I don’t see the new expanded ‘lost and found” area that BDC promised as an enhancement to the game day experience… don’t tell me it’s been left on the drawing board! Every time I go to Reser I lose my wallet. I was so hoping that there was some help on the way! Oh well… JB

PS: All the old boys at the Sunny Acres retirement home err… season ticket holders, will like the checkerboard theme, it makes them feel right at home.

  17. LOL….. spring football practice has started, and absolutely NO interest here..

Man, last year this blog was all over it…..

    ….what fools we were.

  18. Just read that Joe Avezanno died. I will miss his posts on this blog. Hopefully Pettibonehead is taking his vitamins because he’s next on the block after Kragthorpe. According to the trend, you’ve got about 8 years left buddy, make ’em count!

    Dee Andros (October 17, 1924 – October 22, 2003)
    Craig Fertig (May 7, 1942 – October 4, 2008)
    Joe Avezzano (born 17 November 1943 – 5 April 2012)
Dave Kragthorpe (born May 1, 1933-2016?
Jerry Pettibone (born July 11, 1939-2020?

  19. Rough start for #Stanford RHP Mark Appel. Walked two, allowed two runs in first vs. #Washington. Appel struggled last week, too.

  20. @Beaver_Baseball Today’s lineup: Gordon-CF, Smith-SS, Conforto-LF, Davis-RF, Dunn-3B, Keyes-DH, Barnes-1B, Rodriguez-C, Tommasini-2B, Child-RHP.
