Pac-12 Results/Discussion

The other thread was getting too long.

Discuss the weekend's results. Who impressed you?

UCLA impressed me most. Beavs are going to have their hand's full. Oregon put up a ton of points and looked good at times, but they also look a little weaker than in past years. Even in victory Stanford didn't impress me. QB is not good. USC played a horrible game, and their OC didn't try to slow the pass rush (screens, draws etc). Watching the Utah game now…no thoughts on it yet.

      • Tough week to be a BYU fan. Imagine coming home from a hard days work and having to listen
to all seven of your wives bitch and moan about the game.

        • Six votes and only three disapprove. Humor only cloaks the bigotry. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (nicknamed Mormons) have not practiced polygamy for over 100 years.

          • Bigotry?

How’s this: Fuck the mormons and all the other brainwashed bible/torah/koran/2000 year old fairy tale believing idiots in the ass with a fresh green zucchini. Anybody who stops to use their brain for 10 seconds and still believes any of that shit is a retard.

          • As soon as they stop knocking on my door uninvited, pasting stickers/signs/posters all over everything and cutting off journalists heads I’ll keep my opinions to myself.

            Until then,game on.

          • Yeah it’s all one and the same. A 2000 year old zombie story should have no bearing on the laws and policies of this or any other country. Hell, the world would be a better place if we burned all of the religious books and replaced them with a copy of Zombieland.

          • Well, you obviously don’t know the LDS faith if you’re thinking Christianity has anything to do with it except for the vast plagiarism of the very incorrectly translated King James version of the bible. It’s a sad story of bad con men plagiarizing from many others and taking money and power.

Then again… that sounds in line with every other religion to some extent.

          • I have friends that grew up LDS and have heard their silly story too. Not sure if it’s as stupid as a zombie story, but I digress.

Hell, from a logical perspective the only “religions” that have a leg to stand on were the native Americans who basically worshipped the earth. At least the Earth is fuckin real, and it actually gives you the shit you need to survive. Weren’t there some others (Egypt maybe?) That worshipped the sun? Once again, there it is in the sky. I can see it. It’s real. No faith/brainwashing/tithing required.

          • The message of the Savior is clear Love, Kindness and Charity are the way to Happiness. The message of the Church of Jesus Christ is to bring people closer to Christ. If you pray with a sincere heart, you will know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. The Father sent His only begotten Son for you. His sacrifice of Love was for You.

  1. UCLA’s QB should make several mistakes next week, which the Beavs will need to capitalize on if they want to keep up. Houston made several mistakes that led to quick points for ucla and good field position.

    • What the hell happened to Houston though? They’ve been a solid “Non-BCS” team for several years. Did players leave or did Sumlin know the cupboard was bare?

      • Some programs have a hard time recovering after losing a record setting quarterback, you could add Hawaii to that list also, and maybe this year Boise St.

  2. The Wisconsin game was fun, but we still don’t know the teams “identity”. I don’t really have a grasp of how good UCLA or AZ is because the opponents are unknown to a certain point. And the Ducks look awesome, but they should in whom they have played. Will certainly be interesting to see how the Beaver D stacks up with UCLA’s offense. And hopefully Mannion gets time next week and lets some of the deep routes materialize before he dumps the ball. When I play my buck on the Lottery I am a potential millionaire at least until they draw the numbers. My buck is for the couple day entertainment of being a potential millionaire. The Beavs are in a position that they could have the PAC 12 championship in Corvallis. . . at least until next Saturday. So this week will be a lot more fun than any week last year.

    • While we don’t KNOW the teams identity we do have some indicators. The intensity shown on D against Wisc, and the several indicators that Riley is more focused should, at least, hint that this team is much different than the last two seasons. Add in experience for many players and we have a group which is much more fun to follow.

Only the very next game matters (and yes, recruiting too), GO BEAVS !

      • Another note on identity coming out of the win against Badgers. Seeing Dylan Wynn on the sidelines give credit to the DB’s for another Wynn/Creighton fumble recovery is a sign, to me at least, that this D is the real thing. Depth still an issue but I’ll take that in place of a lack of team spirit anytime.

        • Agreed that defense may be the identifier for the team, or maybe at least from the fan’s perspective. Like one of the guys said, the line and the secondary used to never talk to each other, and this year they are. That jelling should create a balance that leads to run stuff=try to pass=covered receivers=smooshed QB by Wynn/Chrichton. (how’s that for a simpleton breakdown?)

        • I loved that too. That kid has fire in his eyes and there’s no doubt that he provides great spark and leadership on the field. He’s a winner.

  3. This just in:

Fink is not a good coach.

UW beat the only Oregon team they’re going to beat this year. The bad news for them is they will need to win all four games after the OSU game just to be bowl eligible. The good news is they might do it (they won’t).

CU at Wazzu will be epic.

Really Kentucky? Arkansas? Auburn? Wasn’t the Sun Belt paid to create football in order to be an SEC punching bag?

    • WKU aka Stanford lite. You gotta love that a mid-major has better players than an SEC school. I’m thinking that the joke is going to be on Joker Phillips in about two months. Chizik should be planning on which FCS school he’s going to end up at in about two years. John L.Smith will be in jail by then, so no need to worry about coaching. Alabama just needs to become a new NFL franchise.

  4. Both USC and Stanford were unimpressive looking. Three picks in three plays and four picks within 8 plays. I’ve never seen anything like it.

  5. Angry, I think Stanford is better than many are giving credit for. I think QB Nunes is an athlete who has/will improve to surprise some people. Don’t sleep on him.
Also, I think their O-line just slowly wore down USC and could do the same to many teams this year. Watch for them to be good closers in the 4th quarter due to this.

    • I think they’re built like Wisconsin. The key to beating them is making them throw the ball. But Nunes is better than O’Brien ever will be… if O’Brien ever plays again.

  6. Both Utah and BYU looked beatable to me. Houston’s defense was a joke…made UCLA’s running game look all world. Stanford’s defense looked stiff. With a few exceptions they did a nice job of neutralizing USC’s playmakers. I think both Arizona teams are going to be tough.

And I hate the Ducks. Not sure if I’ve put that out there recently.

        • Sounds good…you can pick me up in Puyallup, Washington. Sad to say, the project in Sandpoint came to an end…moved over to work out of the corporate office. Got to say, I’m not really a city guy.

My first week here, my wife and It took the kids to downtowm Seattle to see thte waterfront and Pike St. Market and all that. Proceeded to get into a verbal altercation with some Husky douche bag who was literally challenging my right to wear my Beavers shirt in downtown Seattle (it was the day of the SDSU game at CenturyLInk). Coudn’t believe this guy.

          • I’ve lived in Seattle for 23 years. I got a million stories like yours, buddy. Needless to say, during their recent football program swoon I was grinding it in. Big time.

          • My Dad’s last 8 or so years in the USFS he was in Olympia. He’s told me strories about the UW imbeciles that I wouldn’t have believed if someone else had told me them.

Living up there was torture for the old man,he’s the most hard-headed died in the wool OSU fan of all time. Wants “UofZero” and “The Condoms” to lose 12 games a year and have every player on the team break his leg on every play. He went to OSU in the 60s and was at the Giant Killers game in ’67. We used to go up on the the top of mountains outside of Oakridge when I was a kid so we could get AM radio reception and listen to OSU football games. The streak damn near killed him.

      • The Siuslaw is loaded this fall. There are so many chinook in the water, you can’t miss. And a lot of them are jack. Next year is going to be bonkers. Kept an 11 pound chinook and a 19 pound king. Threw back all the blue backs and perch.

        • Hmmm, any bank fishing in the Florence-Mapleton area that you know of? I mean, what’s a secret fishing spot between forum posters huh Jack?

I guess I could use my old Columbia river jetty technique of casting a heavy spoon from that Siuslaw south jetty out into the current and see if I could catch the attention of a salmon.

          • We were anchored on the downriver end of Duncan. The best shore fishing is between Brickerville and Swiss Home. And if you go up Old Stagecoach Rd. you’ll find a bunch of spots for some great trout fishing… and maybe pull in a nice salmon. You can also get there from Eugene just after Linslaw… just past the Whittaker Creek cut-off. In fact, the north side of the Whittaker Creek cut-off goes to Old Stagecoach. Follow that into the hills and there’s some really good fishing this time of year. I usually drop a couple traps with chicken trailings in them and bring home a bunch of crawdads.

          • Pussy. Get in there and catch em with your hands.

Whitaker creek is loaded with crawdads.

I went blueback fishing with my Dad a long time ago. Heard they were protected?

          • Not sure on that. But then I grew up thinking a chinook is only a king if it’s over 15 pounds and any rainbow over 20″ is a steelhead. I’ve never kept blue backs because I’ve always been after another fish when I do catch them.

I do know you don’t mess with bull trout. And there are freshwater populations of cutthroats which are off limits because environmental factors like fire, logging erosion, and ag/water diversion severely limit them.

All I know is if it’s longer than two feet, I’m likely keeping a fish.

          • Another fun thing to do is to hit the jetties and around the rock dock for cod. I don’t know if it’s legal, but we used to do what we call poke-pull on the jetty. You get down in the surf and poke a 1/2″ pvc tube with a line threaded through a couple holes and a hook with bait. You could hook some jetty-bound cod by just pulling a couple up through the rocks.

That was long ago. I’m sure some shore casting in the surf is pulling in good fish right now. I’ve heard casting beyond the buoys is pulling in some nice ones this year as well. The only thing that sucks about Florence is that the easiest access costs $5 on the south side. But the north side has some interesting slack water just as you turn down the hill and out to the jetty. I’d love to know how that area casts.

          • I always wanted to learn how to fish the jetties. Used to work with some guys that knew all about it and was gonna go over and get all lined out. Started having kids and never have gone over there. Good thing is the wife loves to fish so once my 2 year old is a bit bigger we’ll start spending more time on the water.

      • Hooked and lost one. It was slow – only saw a few fish caught.

I’ve been fishing the Puyallup river- it’s combat fishing at its best (worst?). Fishing cloudy water (glacier runoff from Rainer I think). Total flossing show w/9′ leaders. Not really my style, but when in Rome…

      • Three in the box at 31 on the Yaquina Friday. Sunday sucked, to many weekend warriors churning up the water, including two a-holes on jets skis if you can believe that.

Alsea good, big fish, good tides. Twobig bucks yesterday back again Friday.

        Looking like a strong season…

  7. Colorado has got to be the worst BCS team in the country – so glad we added them to the league. But since they are -why can’t we get these guys on the schedule?

    • I might bet the money line. I put a hundred bucks into an online betting site 5 or six years ago. When I tried to pull money out they wanted a copy oft drivers license and my SS card. Needless to say I declined. I think I’ve got about 3 hundred in there now…money I’ll never see so I play around with it all season.

    • Just saw a line of +11.5, I would have thought it would be around 7 or 8. I definitely would take the Beavs.

Oregon is also favored by 23.5 against Arizona. That seems WAY too high.

    • Listening to the previously non existent Bruin shit talkers who have descended on the boards, the spread should be about 50. National title here they come! God I want to beat this team.

    • Remember, it’s not a predictor of the result. It’s to get equal bets. This 11.5pts is an indicator that LA is starting to like the direction of ucla.

      • You are right, a team like UCLA will get a lot of money bet on them by casual fans. Although any line that is too out of wack will get pounded by the professorial bettors. It will be interesting to see how the line moves this week. It will probably drop tomorrow and the next day. By game time it will most likely climb back up to where it is now, as all the square money pours in,

And lots of books don’t mind if they don’t get equal action on a game. They take sides just like the bettors do. Of course they do have a nice 10% vig to play with.

  8. Here’s realistic Bruin fans insight:

“I’m very concerned that our offense may be coming down to earth now that teams have some tape on us. We were unable to get any push up front until KP came in for two garbage time drives – our rushing yards for this game are pretty misleading. A lot of what we have done earlier in the season is changing the point of attack, which can hide some of the flaws on the OL and play to an element of surprise; worried that if Oregon State can blow up our run game, there will be a lot of pressure for Hundley to make throws. (and it wasn’t just the red zone where he was locking on receivers, he missed seeing some wide open receivers, particularly in the middle). And we are not going to win many games giving up 5 turnovers.”

    • Thank goodness this is just a fan view point. Coaches are a little too close to the action to recognize and adjust? I feel that Beavs could win they can avoid the big mistakes.

  9. While I agree the Vegas line is a bit out of whack I still think UCLA is a TD favorite. I hope I am wrong but Wisconsin is looking like a .500 ball club and UCLA is looking like a 9-3 type club… shoot they could even contend for the P12 South. Plus this game is at UCLA a place where Mike Riley and the Beavs have historically struggled. At least we don’t have to worry about home town clock keepers any more though.

  10. YThis is a weird season, so far..

A lot will become clearer when teams get into their conference play.

Is UO actually sloppy and mistake prone? Is Wisconsin really weak or are NIU and USU strong this year?

Is our defense really that good? Can our offense start racking up points like we projected?

Is USC actually weak or is Stanford that strong?

I expect the matchups are one key, as Canzano said. Stanford might be very tough for us, but easy pickins for UO.

But all things considered, I think we have a decent shot at a winning record. Gonna be interesting.

    • Did Canzano really say that? I see Stanford’s D-line giving Oregon’s depleted offensive line a ton of trouble. That bogus penalty on Poyer in last year’s Stanford game really turned the momentum of that game. If that TD stood, OSU would have been in the game until the end.

How much does USU have to do to prove they are a solid team?

      • Yeah, in his 3 words for UO.

I think we are still in the mode that the BCS conferences are always strong, and the rest weaker. But the ability of kids growing up to get good coaching and good training keeps increasing, and the result is, there are more really good athletes to go round. So the top programs are still usually strong, but the lesser programs get stronger and stronger.

But its still hard to accept this. When Appalachian State took out Michigan, it was front page stuff for SI, but now it happens every year.

  11. I haven’t been able to watch the UCLA game yet, but I am loving the P12 network showing 60 minute cutups of the games so I can still see the game if I missed it on Sat.

I see a couple positive things going for the game on Sat,

    1. In general, OSU plays well against freshman QBs or first year starters.
    2. Mora is a pro style coach, another area where the coaching staff matches up well.
    3. The secondary looks very strong. Hitting hard, wrapping up and coverage has been excellent.

The game plan doesn’t seem too disimilar from Wisconsin. Win at the point of attack and shut down the running game. Force Hundley to win it through the air against a pair of strong corners.

    Couple concerns –
    1. UCLA is hot and at home. Beavers have fared poorly on the road esp at UCLA.
    2. Hundley is a mobile QB.

All in all, I think the Beavs can win this one if they are able to stuff the run and establish their own running game. Not sure the D can bring the same game on the road. I expect a dropoff but the offense should also be better.

  12. I think the main questions are pretty basic, driven by line play, red zone production, and special teams performance:

    1) can the OSU d-line maintain it’s intensity for four quarters to allow the LB’s to make plays? They looked to be losing their push in the fourth against Wisconsin and I think UCLA has better athletes;

    2) Can OSU’s o-line provide a REAL running game – not just just 4.1 YPC, but some long runs and some time-eating drives?

    3) Can OSU finish in the redzone and come away with TD’s?

    4) If all the above are achieved, will OSU’s special teams be able to do their job, or will they cost OSU the game by missing field goals and giving away field position with poor punts? I think these kickers may struggle in this environment. They seem to overthink their respective kicks, even at home without an opposing fan base.

  13. hmmm…looks like my predictions were 50% correct:

“USC wins close, Cal loses to tOSU, Wisconsin wins a close one against Utah State, BYU beats down Utah, UofA loses to SCSU, and ASU loses to Missouri, but won’t be ridiculed for it.”

    USC lost (wrong)
    Cal lost (correct)
    Wisconsin won close one (correct)
    BYU lost (wrong)
    UofA won (wrong)
    ASU lost (correct)

    Numbers’ predictions however:

“Im taking USC to steamroll Stanford. Cal to embarrass OhioSt. Wisconsin over Utah state. Byu crushes Utah. UofA vs S.CarolinaSt is a toss up in my book. ASU gets past missouri just fine”

    USC lost (wrong)
    Cal lost (wrong)
    Wisconsin won (correct)
    BYU lost (wrong)
    UofA won (no pick)
    ASU lost (wrong)

looks like you were 1/5 correct for your picks…seems like those 8 people who gave me negatives are eating crow right now.

    • The only thing that surprised me out of those matchups was that Cal actually hung with Ohio State. If their QB didn’t suck shit so bad they could’ve pulled that one out.

      • Poor field goal execution, horrible safety play and “No Guts” Tedford bailing on fouth and one lost the game. Their leading rusher had 3 carries for 151 yards. Why does he only carry 3 times? That is not the fault of the qb. It is in fashion to dump on Maynard. He played well enough to win if you stick to the facts and avoid prejudical hype. Cal will sneak up and beat someone by accident in the PAC 12.

    • The biggest surprise to me was Utah over BYU. I didn’t think Utah had it in them, especially having lost qb Winn. I still say that Cal embarrassed OhioSt… Cal sucks and ohst needed major homerism from big10 refs AND shitty fg attempts by cal to just squeak out the win… Next I was surprised by ASU. I thought they would roll over Missouri, (I didn’t realize it was at mizzou, but still). Kiffin is the weak link at USC, but good pick b4l. Most importantly, I think the thumbs down came from the blah blah blah, not your picks. Good job though, you out picked me. Try again?

  14. Who would have guessed going into week 4 that OSU was still eligible for the National Championship game and USC probably is not? And we have 4 top 25 teams left to prove our point.
    Could happen.
Beavers +11.5 points, take that bet all day long.
This may come down to field goals.

      • What moronic AD would send such a message to our team. Play your asses off and win out the conference play but forget the title game, as I rescheduled your first game tuneup for the same day.

          • Obviously (I hope) if we are in the title game, its NS who gets kicked to the curb.

The problem, as I thought I stated, is the MESSAGE that our AD doesnt think much of our chances to get to that title game. Kids always fantacize about shit like that, and as long as they can, they will play out the fantasy. Dont deprive them of that.

          • I don’t think the players care about the message, they have their goals that they want to accomplish they shouldn’t pay attention to what outsiders are saying, if anything they will use it as bulletin board material.

Could this be a master plan by BDC to motivate the players? hmmmm……

I just don’t like how on the official schedule they have Nicholls St penciled in for that date.

    • James was at the Wisconsin game and was hanging out right in front of us for a while. He looks like he has added even more muscle than when he played for the Beavs. I really hopes he makes it in the league.

  15. What’s with this farse that Beavs always struggle at ucla? We lost in 2010, but we sucked in 2010. I was at the game in 2008. We spanked ucla 34-6. Didn’t seem like a struggle to me.

    • Not so, presley,

The link refers to the incident of August 1, previously reported and discussed. Well before the Beavs kept Ball in check. Interesting read, though, first I’d heard of a gal using her body to cover Ball and stop the attack. …………………..cue beavgopher.

  16. Predictions for this upcoming Pac-12 games this weekend:

OSU @ #19UCLA (If Oregon State can run the ball against UCLA, OSU wins, if they can’t, they lose) OSU wins

CU @ WSU (WSU wins big)

    CAL @ #13 USC ( USC wins)

Utah @ ASU (ASU beats Utah in the desert)

#22 Arizona @ #3 Oregon (Arizona upsets Oregon proving that Oregon is not the “powerhouse” they’ve been the past 4-5 years)

    • Hey, good for you….layin it on the line. I think the pac is really weird right now, and tough to predict. But I expect UO to send a message, and DanthonyT to make enough big plays to get them thru. What we will see is how good their D is. If not up to par, then AZ might pull it off….too bad it aint down there.

      • I think AZ will win really. I don’t see UO “dominating” like they have the first few games. They will struggle and it will bite them in the A$$!!!

        • Well. no one has seen UO against anything but cupcakes, so AZ has a golden opportunity. If UO is going to lose, that seems a prime time for it to happen. Gonna be interesting.

          • I just love that Beavs get AZ right after ducks. AZ would get huge rankings bump by beating duck, just in time for giant killers to show up. I loved that lottery ticket comparison.

          • I don’t see him and Barner getting through a whole season. Very slight of build. James was a tough inside runner, these guys are not.

          • He’s using him as an inactive player. I think he wanted to use him as a PR/KR, but his preseason flubs in that department make him not useful right now. I don’t know if he sees the field this year unless SF trades away a couple of the other four RBs on the roster ahead of him (not counting the two FBs).

          • AZ runs the spread. OSU defences do not stop the spread. We will lose. Sadly, the win against Wisc. is not as great as we origionally thought. I loved how the D played in that game but I am still skeptical that we can score enough to win in league. Banker seems completely unable to put up a game plan to even slow a good spread team. I think we will play really well against teams like BYU, UW and Cal, but will struggle against UCLA, AZ and Ore.

          • Banker can beat the spread, but not with the personnel he has had. Is that his fault for not recruiting properly? Yeah, probably it is mostly his fault. We have beat the ducks(running the spread) when we had good personnel and I believe we have good personnel this year. Arizona is a good team, not great. They have not been up a good defense yet, along with UCLA and the ducks. This week we will start to see how things pan out. Excited to finally see the season start. Raise the curtain, dim the lights, its showtime…

    • As much as I would LOVE to be wrong about this, I think the Ducks will continue to be a dominant team within the conference so long as key players on offense stay healthy. I think they actually leave the first string in the game for more than one quarter and handle Arizona comfortably in Eugene.

      • I think the Ducks’ ability to play the bench early is going to be beneficial later in the season. If they can continue to play the bench for significant periods of time, they’ll really develop their depth and reduce injury risk to their offensive stars.

        • The key injuries that the ducks have suffered already (mostly in weak games) are just the tip of the iceberg. Weak links will substantially damage the integrity of the chain because excessive stress will be put on the remaining links. Dennis Dixon anyone?

          GO AZ!!

          I predict if AZ>UO and OSU>UCLA, then OSU>AZ

      • Everything is cyclical, so what goes up must come down. We will see though, perhaps not this year. You are wrong about being able to get starters out of the game. This is the PAC-12.. not the high school teams the ducks have been playing(with the exception of Colorado… there are some high school teams that could beat them… maybe we could set up an exhibition game… Jack?). If the ducks lose either Black Mamba or Barner… things start to fall apart.

        • I actually don’t think the loss of DAT would kill them, but losing Barner would. My point about keeping the first string in for more than one quarter was that they have been killing (cupcakes, I know) with their bench playing most of the game. Now that the conference play is beginning, you are going to see them actually play the 1’s for most of the game, and I think they’ll be able to handle AZ in Eugene.

I understand they are breaking in a newborn baby jesus QB and they lost LaMike, but my sense is this is one of the deepest Duck teams we have seen so far, and I think they probably absorb the OL and safety loss fairly smoothly. If injuries continue to pile up, obviously that is a problem for them. We’ll have to see where they are at the end of conference play and if they will still be healthy enough to compete for the title, but as of right now, I really doubt they lose to AZ.

      • I keep reading that Thomas couldnt handle getting 15-20 carries a game. If he is so fragile, once PAC 12 play starts he’ll start getting tackled more than every other time he touches the ball. Bodes well for us facing them at the end of the season.

      • I’m just thinking it’s stupid to drink while training at that level, let alone doing it after a game when you should be maximizing your body’s healing capacity. It’s stupid to be able to afford to buy a new car and hire a driver within an hour, yet you get in your car and floor it at 5am. And then it’s stupid to submit to any roadside sobriety tests.

        Stupid is as stupid does.

        • Explain that Jack. If you refuse to submit to roadside sobriety tests, and display objective signs of intoxication or smell of alcohol, you WILL go directly to jail. Do you suppose the officer will just say, “Dang, no tests, guess I got to cut this one loose.”? Later on, when you get your day in court, if you’re so innocent of D.U.I., explain to the jury why you refused the tests. Follow me? If you’re not intoxicated, take the tests, prove it. You stonewall and you have NO defense later on. And by the way, while you flounder about trying to convince that same jury you are innocent, (with nothing to support you) the arresting officer is going to eloquently describe your unlawful driving and objective signs of intoxication to the very same jury. Juries tend to believe police officers over defendants, just the way it is.

The “refusal” defense does not work, has never worked, and is not good advice to be putting out to people.

          • I believe most states have laws that say your license will be revoked for six or twelve months immediately if you do refuse to submit to field sobriety tests. And yes, you go straight to holding until they can obtain a warrant to gain such evidence.

But that defense does work for people with means. You’re correct. The majority of stupid schmucks who drink and drive won’t be able to avoid penalty in this circumstance. But someone who can hire a half decent lawyer will likely skate. I think it’s excellent advice to put out there if the penalties are increased. I have no qualms telling anyone who drinks and drives to roll the dice. And I wish our legal system was as efficient as you seem to think it is with regards to this crime. If my advice sends more losers to the clink, I will advise more losers in such a way.

          • I suppose your right about money talking. We’ve all seen people skate behind dollar bills, (OJ comes to mind) but most of us aren’t rich, and the average Joe is going to go down for a refusal, and rightfully so.

In most states, when you get popped for DUI, your car gets towed, there’s an automatic license suspension and yet get a weekend in jail upon conviction, plus a hefty fine. It’s just not cool or acceptable anymore like it seemed to be back in the day.

Gross injustices are done in our legal system regularly, that’s a fact. It’s a flawed system, but for the most part, it works on the masses. The thin blue line and the fear of jail is what keeps most of us commoners in check. People are inherently bad, deep inside, and would do very bad things to others if they thought they could get away with it.

    • You realize between Jake LaCoste and Tyner, Lakeridge has given up 972 yards on the ground and 13 TDs. Add LaCoste’s 1/1 passing for an 84 yard TD, and that’s 1056 total yards and 14 TDs.

Lakeridge has scored 97 points in its last two games combined, and they’ve lost both… by wide margins.

      THAT is crazy.

      • Defense wins championships… just look at the SEC. Also, they play serious ball in Texas. Players get good coaching early… it makes a huge difference. The rest of the country is catching up, but Texas is a good proving ground(larger schools of course… we are not talking 8 man ball here).

  17. Rumor has it that Tyner is trying to graduate in December and enter college early. Looks like grades will not be a problem for him. Also rumor that he still plans to take an official visit to OSU.
Nothing is certain until LOI day.

      • KBeav, I see that you appointed yourself the “Troll Sheriff”! Thank goodness, I was worried that we may actually have non-Beavers on this board. Make sure that you get them all.
Actually Kenny Beaver is a much better contributor to this board than you.
When was the last time that you had a post with any content?
You must be mad at Kenny Beaver because he has a better moniker than you or he stole your lunch money on the way to school.

        • I would never take anyone’s lunch money. I stole Kbeav’s prom date, his cousin. So he had to go with his Mom. He never has gotten over it. Since then, his mom and him have gotten even closer!

        • I’ve always thought of KBeav as our in-house Columbo. Finding clues where none of the rest of us see anything.

Every time Kenny Beaver posts KBeav responds within minutes. Coincidence??? I wonder??? I have harbored the thought that they are one and the same. Notice the similarity in names. He may be having some sort of tortured inner debate or maybe a true split personality. JB

PS: Let’s, as usual, wait for Jack to weigh in. I’m sure he studied with Freud.

    • I actually think ought to make a concerted effort to secure his LOI based on the following:

      If OSU has a significantly progressive season in terms of wins and losses and can sell that they’re on the upswing;

      UO receives any notable punishments;

      The fact that Tyner could play behind what could be one of OSU’s best offensive lines in a long time (and don’t forget the addition of Keller);

      OSU has a solid QB situation for the next 3 years at least;

      OSU will likely be able to platoon backs more than ever with the likes of Woods and the potential of Brown. Throw Tyner in there and get creative and you could have an offense that’s difficult to defend and reduces his injury risk. The tough part here for OSU coaches is the creativity;

If he’s interested in being a track pioneer at OSU instead of a part of a track legacy at UO; and finally,

He’s a young, impressionable, and at least until early last year appeared to have genuine interest in OSU.

Clearly, the spread suites him and UO’s track legacy is likely very attractive. But, if you want to get better, you have to get better players, so try to turn him from the dark side with your best selling points.

      • FWIW, I saw only 2 Beaver shirts/hats at the Aloha/Lakeridge game last Friday (me being one of them), while I saw literally hundreds if not thousands of yucks gear being worn by absolutely everyone.
This was also the biggest junior high dance I’ve ever been to… at least it seemed that way in the area by the east endzone. Cheap perfume and cologne, acne, training bras, and gangsta wanna-bes as far as the eye could see.

  18. From SoCalBeav at Pure-pigskin (yeah, I still look over there once in a great while):

“Riley’s record after bye weeks –

LAST YEAR – Lost to UCLA 27 to 19 (Still not sure how we lost this game)
    2010 – Beat Louisville 35-28
    2010 – Beat California 37 to 7
2009 – Lost to 4th ranked USC 36 to 42 (on the road)
    2008 – Beat #1 ranked USC
    2007 – Beat Stanford 23 to 6.
    2007 – Beat 18th ranked Oregon 38 to 31 (on the road)
    2006 – Beat Idaho 38 to 0
    2005 – Beat 18th ranked California 23 to 20 on the road.
2004 – Beat Washington 29 to 14 on the road.”

    • 2003. Beat Stanford 43-3
2002. New Orleans Saints beat Carolina Panthers 34-24
2001. San Diego Chargers beat @ Dallas Cowboys 32-21
2000. San Diego Chargers Loss to Oakland Raiders 13-15
1999 week1 bye. San Diego beat Cinci Bengals 34-7
      1998. Oregon State beat u of o 44-41
1997 Beavs loss to #21 Stanford

1996 USC beat Oregon State 56-0 (Riley Offensive Coordinator at USC)
      1995 no bye
      1994 USC beat Baylor 37-27
1993 USC beat Washington State 34-3

      • I don’t read to much into that. Comparing previous years bye weeks. To me it is really impossible to get anything out of. It depends more on your talent and the talent of the other team.

I think the more important thing to look at is Riley’s September record, and having a team ready. We all know that record.

With that said I think OSU is hungry and UCLA is probably cocky at this point so I see a win.

        • What I recall our of it is that given a bye week, Riley does better than most expect. He makes good use of the additional time to get players ready for that next opponent.

We will see. We will certainly know a lot more about our chances this season, after a round of conference play. I like the way things are looking. Keep that D intensity going!

          • I’m not about to do the research, but I do believe there is a correlation between bye weeks and shortened weeks and mike Riley’s win loss record. When less than a week I think Riley gets hammered, and more than a week he surprises. That’s big picture stuff and of course any given game is small picture and who knows. But I believe more in this stat than the “Beavs #2 in national rush defense” this season stat.

  19. Looking at our current, but limited stats, the offense must become much more productive for OSU to get plenty of wins in Pac-12 play. The running game has to play a more significant role for OSU’s offense to click at top form.
