Wasn't a Vaz doubter (actually have liked him forever), but if you were being realistic this is a game the Beavs traditionally lose. It's officially time to separate this season, and the anomaly that it is, from prior seasons.
Vaz actually throws a nicer ball than Mannion. More accurate and better touch. But those batted balls were frustrating. If we could only combine the two we'd have an ideal QB. Anyone think there's a controversy? Anyone think Vaz takes over? I liked the red zone offense better today. Some of it was luck (Prince catch), but they just seemed to hit more plays down there with Vaz. Thoughts?
Nice to see Richie Harrington get some game reps! Highlight of the day for me.
Defense looked pretty decent. Kept getting gashed by that shovel pass and the mobile QB, and they over pursue, but I like the aggressive, disruptive style. Much better to watch than the past few years. The DTs are the surprise of that group. Another surprise I haven't mentioned all year is Colin Kelly. He was horrible the past few years, but he's good now. Yeah, he got called on back to back plays today, but overall a big improvement that deserves acknowledgment.
Kostol is a monster.
Nice to see Romaine in a role he can handle.
That game was cardiac most of the way. Felt the Beavs were dominating the lines and should have been up more than they were (this is a frustrating trend).
Oneoldbeav, do you remember the last time OSU was 5-0?
In-N-Out burger time. Oh, wait, the lady Beav just barked "French onion soup tonight!". Damn. *Insert Beaverjuice for dessert joke*
I don’t think Mannion has done anything this season that should cost him losing his spot. If Vaz continues to play great and Mannion returns and plays poorly, then we may have a controversy. But boy did Vaz play great, the one thing is that we were pretty bad on 3-down.
Not even I thought this team would be 5-0 (even if the Nichols St game happened). These guys are playing at a high level.
Careful, you might get the Pollyanna tag put on you.
A thing to consider about Vaz is that prior to this game there was no game tape on him. He was an unknown quantity to BYU. He played great but it will be interesting to see what happens when a team has some tape on him and is able to gameplan for his specific abilities. Having said that I am still confident with either him or Mannion under center. What Mannion does very well is convert 3rd downs, today we were a little shaky on 3rd down.
One thing for sure, other teams will have their hands up if it looks like he is going to pass.
Pump fakes should have been implemented to try and prevent the blocked passes, but they weren’t.
Red zone offense wasn’t much different than usual. Only time they struggled to score in the red zone with Mannion was when he had a knee injury. Also, I felt like the play calling was much better in the red zone. Amazing how much better you look when the head coach stops trying to outsmart himself. The reverse and double reverses were awesome play calls. Riley just seemed to have a better feel for things today than he has all season. Put Cody on the move and not as many screen plays. Brilliantly called game, especially in the 2nd half.
Sean Martin flat out needs to ride the bench. Gave up plays on third down repeatedly. He seriously can’t be better than some of the other reserve DB’s. He just so bad. Teams are gonna go after him repeatedly and it will be successful. That maybe more than anything kept BYU as close as they were.
Linebacker play needs to get better. They were far too often out of position. Needs to be cleaned up.
Spot on about Kostol and the O-Line. Kostol has been very good. You need punters like him. Completely changes field position. The O-Line was damn impressive. BYU can get after the QB and the O-Line gave him a clean pocket and I did not see them blow a blocking assignment the entire game. One of the best performances by an OSU O-Line that I’ve seen in a while.
Beavers got some luck, but it’s about damn time the Beavers caught some breaks. Beavers have been a huge surprise, time to keep it going
Why the dig at Mike Riley’s play calling. They tried the double reverse against WSU i believe and it failed. I think Riley took some shit on here about that. It worked yeaterday and suddenly he’s a genious. I do not believe Mike Riley calls better or worse plays from one week to the next. He likely always calls good plays, they just dont always work.
I’m in the camp that says it’s Mannion’s job to lose and when he’s healthy he starts but if Sean has a bad half it’s back to Vaz. Other than the Kelley b2b penalties the O-line played much better than I expected and you can’t say enough about Vaz’s game. It helps when you have Cooks/ Wheaton to throw to. D has to improve a lot if we’re going to beat the ducks. It looks like Woods needs to hit the weight room a little harder, I’m not confident that he’ll last the season.
Anyone have an idea where to find all of the old season records? Wikipedia is really spotty. I’d like to figure out when the last time we were 6-0 was. In 1939, we lost to USC in the 6th game of the system, so we might well be heading into completely uncharted territory.
Uncharted territory
Try this: http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/pac10/oregon_state/index.php
You’ll have to do some work but all the data’s there.
1913 they went 6-0-2
1914, rather.
We had ties in the middle of that season, can’t call em wins. We were undefeated, 6-0, in 1907. Not much of a schedule though:
Astoria AC (OR)
Whitman (WA)
Pacific (OR)
Oregon
Loyola Marymount (CA)
Willamette (OR)
A civil war win!
If you type “historical college football scores” you will find a nice website usually. I think it’s done by a guy named Howell.
Offensive line won this game for us. Vaz had all day to throw today. The only real sacks he took were coverage sacks. Even getting over 100 yds on the ground is a win against BYU’s D. Only reason they don’t get an A+ is due to those two foolish penalties by Kelly (that luckily didn’t end up hurting us) and Vaz did take a few hard hits after releasing the ball.
I think that, too. Rookie QB needs not to be pressured much. Even on sacks, seemed like it was a bit of poot decision making….lots of time, but not infinite. That will surely get better.
On not having video of Vaz helping, I dont know. The batted down passes seemed to say they had in mind that he is shorter than Mannion. Its not like he was a running qb vs a pocket qb.
Vaz is hardly a rookie, been in the system for three years. Staff didn’t need to whittle down the playbook for him and he has been viable contender for starter. It’s mannion’s job to lose but feel very comfortable with Vaz behind center.
Hope Woods is healthy soon. the offense needs his steady yards to call passing plays around.
He tweeted that his knee is good
Nelson thought his back was good earlier in the season too
I was watching the game on delay until some time in the third quarter do I caught up on comments later…geez some of you guys are practically epileptic in your highs and lows on any given play. Breathe…haha.
The game threads are a dangerous place.
Would it be as much fun though?
With the WVU loss and one of South Carolina or LSU losing, where do we end up on the BCS? thouht i heard victory margin doesnt factor into it thos year. The early game might help with the coach’s portion.
Im guessing it will look something like:
1.Alabama
2.south Carolina(with a win of course)
3.Notre Dame (but didnt look like it today)
4.Oregon
5.Florida(if they can hang on vs Vandy)
6.KSU
7.OSU
8.Oklahoma
9.USC
10. Texas A&M? (#10 is the toughest pick of all)
If LSU wins a close one to USC, I could see both ending up ahead of OSU.
I usually dont care about ranking much, but this is the BCS and we normally dont have to care about rankings this early in the year.
You should care about rankings…the prestige really helps with recruiting.
Why so low for oregon? Don’t most of the mock BCS polls have them at #2?
No game this week and weak schedule. if margin of victory doesnt factor in, their wins are not high quality. Every opponent is .500 or below.
LSU is doing their best to keep them and South Carolina ahead of us. really hope they lose this
So it looks like only WVU lost (good. that defense has been terrible). Indiana just took the lead vs Ohio State (most overrated team?).
If South Carolina loses how far do they drop?
I guess a best case scenario is jumping WVU, tOSU, and either LSU or South Carolina. Early game and the style points late might sway some human voters.
tOSU wont matter anyway with their bowl ban.
No QB controversy. Vas was flat out amazing in his first start since high school, but he did not look like he was reading the defense as well as Manion does to me (which is expected). Once Mannion is ready I’m sure he’ll get the start but it gives me a ton of confidence that we have a back up for the rest of this year and for next year who is completely capable of winning big games.
*Vaz
**Mannion
Autocorrect…
Agree, Vaz has been in here 4 years and wouldn’t be as good as Mannion is if they were in the same year together. However, Vaz with game experience would most definitely start for a lot of D1 programs.. he played a hell of a game for the circumstances and overall.
Completely disagree. Vaz ran through his progressions quickly, and checked down frequently. He also threw no interceptions, whereas Mannion had a rough game vs WSU. And like Angry said, Vaz throws a much nicer ball than Mannion, even if Mannion throws significantly harder.
Both are very good, but I think Vaz is better in that area.
Vaz didn’t check it down much. There were many times where he held onto the ball too long. Mannion had a rough game but having a partially torn meniscus likely played a big role.
“@J_Rodgers18: @Qui22Rodgers you need to tell Storm something about that hoop earring…he ain’t MJ haha” ( I was thinking the same lol
I lol’d
Holy Moly. You’ve really got to be proud to be a Beaver this season. As each Saturday has come and gone, I’ve tried to keep my highs and lows as steady as possible, but after the bad news about Mannion, I really had my doubts about how many points the offense could muster up and wondered if the defense would be on the field too long. Nice job on both sides. Last time they were 5-0, I was three and no…I don’t remember it. Gotta love it!!!
I was -54 years old
I doubt it. That’d make you 127 today.
Um try that math again howie! This time note the negative sign… :)
No QB controversy. Vaz played an great game, better than anyone hoped for as a replacement who had thrown only 17 college passes, but he’s no Mannion. As someone above mentioned, he wasn’t reading the defense as well as Mannion does. Unless Vaz improves by about 50% at least, its still Mannion’s job when he gets healthy.
That said, its nice that we don’t have sit in agony every game waiting for Mannion to get healthy. Vaz is capable. And if Mannion did suffer a season ending injury, its nice to know that Vaz could still probably get us to a nice bowl game.
Utah should be a win. Best case scenario is that Mannion is back the week after that for Washington (and so far, we’ve gotten the best case scenario regarding this injury and his recovery). After Utah, we have four difficult games coming up. Washington I don’t think will be an easy game. Stanford will be tough on the road, Nunes plays far better at home than on the road. ASU is better than expected and should be tough, good news is that its in Reser. Obviously the Civil War will be tough too.
Oh, and how come I haven’t heard any jokes about the Beavers “Lucky Balls”. With the tipped TD pass to Price, and Poyer’s ricochet-off-the-forearm-on-the-ground interception, no one can deny the Beavers balls are lucky.
Beaver Juice and Lucky Balls. This needs to be a thing.
This is so different from last year. Riley enthusiastic and animated (for him anyway).
This team WANTS to win. SOOO COOL.
I loved the pass protection.
On the shovel passes that kind of almost killed us…..they saw that weakness and exploited it….good BYU coaching. Nelson did good, very good, but we were better.
I agree that Mannion is still the better QB, but it is really good to have a proven quality backup.
Anyone have stats on no of big plays? Seemed like that was really missing last year.
YEEEEEHAAAAAW!
One thing that’s not so different, I haven’t seen a single game recap of OSU/BYU on ESPN, but every other top 10 team gets significant coverage.
Same goes for Fox Sports. All they can talk about is how the schedule sets up nicely for USC to get back into the national title picture. Really? nicely? they play Oregon and Notre Dame and ASU still, not to mention @ UCLA and @Arizona. It’s only favorable if they win every single game on their schedule.
Really networks, would it kill you to recap a top 10 team in the country with a big road win? SMH…
It was kind of freaking me out, I swore I was watching the second coming of Jonathan Smith. It all has to do with light feet in the pocket and a quick release which Vaz apparently has. Smith got his share of balls batted down, but you lived with it because one play later he would find an alley and zip a perfect deep out for the first down.
I think in a game and under pressure Vaz is the better of the two quarterbacks. He played cool, took lots of hits and kept on going. Other than the few low passes, he was accurate and I just liked the way he threw the ball. I believe he will take it to the house with Washington.
Defense has to improve as does Banker. Once we put pressure against Riley things went to our favor. Sometimes I only saw a one man rush, what a joke. I think the altitude affected the D even with the oxygen.
Once we gained a run/pass balance in the 4th quarter, we seemed to be able to control our drive down field. Defense put a lot of our points on the board today, kodos to them.
The white uniforms sucked. I hope next week against Utah we wear all black for the black out. I would love to see some upgraded helmets, but I guess not this year.
I apologize for my excitement during the game, but we were all in the moment and it was a lot of fun. You guys were super.
I went to dinner at a duck hangout after the game. Lots of yellow and green (and a lot of yellow and our black). Very quiet when my family walked in, dirty looks, no congrats at all. Screw the ducks.
Please not the all blacks…terrible look.
Lot better than “Bozo the clown all white. Black and orange combo is the best.
So…..the team looks like Bozo the Clown, eh? Not a nice thing to say, … you arent a Duck fan, by any chance.?.. You seem to search for something snide to say, even in a great win like this one…
Lots of teams wear all white on the road. Never heard anyone call them Bozo the Clown.
I think we are going all Blacks next week. It’s a scheduled black out, it would be a pretty lame black out if our team wore orange for the game.
And yes, screw the ducks. Man how id love to knock them out of the NC game.
I really don’t give a flip about uniforms and helmets right now.
Where did you go?
You guys see this? Thought it was pretty cool..
http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/46923/video-life-of-mike-riley
Vaz threw some amazing passes, right on the money. I think the OL has to do a better job of creating a passing lane for Vaz, or else he will get passes batted down all day. He had a stretch where he was in accurate for 6 passes in a row, but then came back with some key completions. Give Cooky and Wheaton some credit they were able to get free of their defenders time and time again.
I think we could have ran the ball more, the OL was doing a good job with the run blocking, also must note the TE’s were blocking much better today. The RB’s have been trained so well to block as well, big time picking up blitzers.
I thought Byu changed their scheme up and it confused Vaz, but they were able to solve it. Kostol came up huge again, great job. But again the KR didn’t get past the 25, not sure what we are doing there.
The Depth is still a concern for me, I think the LB’s are a little dinged up right now. Where is Wynn? I saw him make one or two plays but that was it, am I just missing him? I wonder if his added weight is effecting his speed? I thought Kell had a great game, along with Castro. Crighton is a stud. But I still thought Nelson at times had too much time to throw.
Have been wondering the same thing myself this season about Wynn…
FYI according to NCAA stats Wynn had 4 solo tackles. You must be blinking at the wrong time. He was leading tackler on time last week.
Quite the difference a year makes

I wish Riley would ride a Harley to practice instead of a tricycle. Real cool.
Any In N Out news?
I had my celebratory california in n out double double after the game. It was yummy.
n-n-out? Why Not? #WellDeserved #GoBeavs http://instagr.am/p/Qvi1taiNFN/
@OSUBeaversFB
14 hip-hip-hoorays for Cody filling in and stepping up BIG time today! http://instagr.am/p/Qvp9_dkFrN/
cody vaz stepped in and threw some great passes. perhaps most importantly, he didn’t make any major mistakes which is what i was most concerned about. byu did a great job of mixing up their plays and keeping the OSU D off balance for a big part of the game. byu was a few dropped balls from making the game even more interesting. some very frustrating beavs defensive play resulted in three 4th down conversions and a byu TD on one drive alone. the tipped pass TD was what it was – lucky. but like someone else said, it is about time the beavs were on the lucky side of the coin, usually its the other way around. the batted balls at the line of scrimmage is of some concern but is to be expected from a 6′ QB. the beaver D especially against teams that spread out the field and mix it up ie ducks, zona is still a huge problem that needs most of the attention. getting out of provo with a W without mannion and an injured woods was a major victory, loving what i see so far……
Went to a In and Out (Arroyo Grande, Ca) with my Oregon St. Football Shirt on and got plenty of high fives! HIP HIP HOORAY….
BeavGoph you’ll love this, my wife had to run over and get her hat signed by Wheaton after the game. That’s right, a 43 year old woman getting all giddy over a college football player, then she asks, “where’s Poyer?”. Great, I’ve lost her. Oh well, as long as we get to the RB.
haha. Good trip!
Vaz is only 4 inches shorter then Mannion. That can’t be that much on a problem can it?
I think the fact that all of BYU’s D-line is 6’1″ to 6’7′, and the 6’7″ guy bated down couple of them, had as much to do with the bat downs as much as anything.
Utah’s line is 5’10” to 6’5″ and on average a little couple inches shorter then BYU. I think the BYU team had the best bat down height this year against the Beavs. So maybe we see less of that next game.
Is it next Saturday yet?
I know!
Bad thing is I will miss the next 2 games (elk hunting) but my excitement for the osu program has never been higher.
I’d forgotten how consumed one can become by having a good team, constantly thinking about the last game, the next game, and the rankings.. While there have been some solid years since the amazing 2000 season, this type of season don’t come along too often so I am trying to enjoy the ride while it lasts.
Any projections on BCS rankings?
I think something like 8 or 9 in AP and 8 in BCS. The only team that we likely climb over is WVU. I doubt that South Carolina will drop below us. My big concern is that Oklahoma or USC will leap us.
I agree, #9 in the AP. I have a feeling the BCS will like us more than that. Possibly as high as 5, but more probable 7 or 8.
latest projection has us #8, behind lsu and s carolina. The coaches poll is dragging us down – we are #11 behind FIVE one loss teams?
there just numbers, a lot of games left. Starting with the Utes – revenge game!
The problem with being behind the one loss teams is it’s difficult to catch back up. They should be the ones trying to catch up to the undefeated teams at this point in the season.
True, only if they win though. LSU still has to play Alabama that could be another loss, and if it isn’t then the SEC championship game. South Carolina still has to play Florida. Notre Dame still has USC among others. Florida State still has Florida. So there still are many games left, just enjoy the ride.
The band and hundreds of fans greet the team at Reser tonight. Huge game next Saturday, another sellout night game, blackout, crowd will be pumped up!
they’re already back in corvallis?
Not really into this kind of thing, but I just voted for Vaz as the impact player of the week.
http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/index?page=caponecup
Lou Holtz awards Cody Vaz a helmet sticker on ESPN College Football Final
Well deserved! That was a clutch performance.
I’ve never seen it before. But can you have 2 players with the same jersey number as long as they are on different sides of the ball? Vaz and Poyer both had #14.
Yes, I believe in college you can but not in the pros.
Just about every team has that scenario.
A check of the roster shows several duplicate numbers on our team, Mannion/Welch being a prime example. Also: Zimmerman/Mulanney and I.Seumalo/Fernando among others.
As to whether or not I remember the last 5-0 start, can’t say as I do but I’ll remember this one for sure!
Yeah, ESPN’s boxscore actually credited Zimmerman with a catch today, but I believe it was Mulanney.
Flash mob at UO store

Classic troll.
One thing Oregon and Oregon State fans have in common. Neither knows the words for the Oregon fight song.
Actually, they nailed it in this video. I actually sang this song plenty of times.
I don’t know a single word of the OSU fight song – can only hum the tune – but I really liked the performance. Great voices, good harmony. OSU students – multi-talented.
Funny story, was just watching the video on my phone here at work. I plugged my head phones in and was almost done when a co-worker pointed out that I didn’t have my head phones plugged all the way in. So everyone in my area (mostly duck fans) got to listen to the fight song with me.
We make Pac-8-10-12 history, first team to come back from a 3-9 season or worse and go bowling.
Actually not sure if I buy this, just something I read
People talking about USC in the title game are on crack. They should not be #11. They should be in the 20s. Soo overrated. Barkley is Sanchez part 2; just praying the Jets don’t draft him.
I dont even know if he’s that good, Sanchez at least won them a Rose Bowl.
I need to stop posting.. but thought you might like this

You have USC and Ohio State way too high, but otherwise not bad. Kansas State should be above tOSU. Not sure where the Beavs should be…probably 6 or so, but it’s hard to rank a team when you’re biased.
Hip Hip Hooray!
About two minutes in, it gets pretty intense ;)
http://video.pac-12.com/video/9oNnkzNjp6K5INI4xVHAPq7KCw3EvULe
Vaz had a great game, given the circumstances, but I still prefer Mannion. He’s more accurate and throws harder, both of which are absolutely key with the screens and short passes over the middle that we live on.
That said, I am not at all worried about Vaz starting now.
Also, what ever happened to Handford? He has to be better than Sean Martin. Hoffman had Martin’s number all day.
Sagarin moves the Beavs up to #8 from #11 last week.
For the recruiting gurus, any impending verbals? Need some more speed at LB and some DT’s.
Hopefully the staff can use Beaverjuice to seal some deals.
Everything I’m reading makes it sound like JUCO LB Samson Faifili (who supposedly runs a 4.5) is close to committing.
Wilsonville’s Johnny Ragin (athletic LB) and Tanner Shipley (WR) are taking officials to Corvallis in a few weeks. Both would be nice additions, but Ragin fits your criteria.
Anyone know if the team hit in and out? I saw a lot of KFC boxes coming in and out of the locker room.
Pac-12 Network had a great piece on the Beavs which included In and Out being brought to the buses in the In and Out parking lot in Provo last night. Vaz and Wheaten had the money shot holding double doubles.
The Beavers are sure giving In and Out Burgers some great free publicity. I hope the chain gets on the band wagon and does something about it, like a Beaver commercial or something. Great PR for them if they did that. It would be great to have an In and Out fan party somewhere or fly the stuff in. I would love to tailgate next Saturday with In and Out food.
It sure wouldn’t be much of a gamble for In-N-Out to fly burgers in for the team for next weeks game. High probability that the Beavs win and not really a huge investment for the burger chain. Make it a “We Deliver” theme.
Good marketing idea but what’s the deal with Mike Parker radio and the mcDonald’s sponsorship? I listened to the postgame and it seemed a bit awkward. Parker carefully avoided saying In N Out and said he was going to McDonald’s.
I noticed that as well, just shows that money talks!
No doubt Parker has gotten the word from his sponsor. Until McD’s drops out or In-N-Out steps up as a paying sponsor (not likely), we’ll hear little about the burgers from down south, at least on any segments sponsored by McD.
Kinda silly, it is a big and fun story and not many of Parker’s listeners are in a position to choose between the two burger chains.
#8 in AP
LSu leapfrogged the Beavs, but Ohio State doesnt count, meaning Beavs should be 7
From Ted Miller…
“What do the coaches have against Oregon State?
Unbeaten Oregon State moved up to eighth in the AP poll on Sunday, but it’s ranked 11th in the coaches poll, behind five teams with a loss.
And, of course, the coaches poll is the one that will count when the BCS standings are released Sunday evening.”
Good question Ted.
I agree. If coaches think Mike Riley is such a nice guy why don’t they support him with some respect. Probably jealousy.
And Oregon stays at the top by beating cup cakes and staying at home.
More ridiculous yet, look at Florida State, one quality win (against Clemson), just one.
Vote here for Cody Vaz :
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/feature/index?page=caponecup
After 3600 votes, Vaz leads with 59%. keep voting for him. Good to get some recognition
Next weeks game is starting to look like it could be the blowout win we’ve been looking for. Utah is changing QB’s.
http://m.sltrib.com/sltrib/mobile2/55076778-218/wilson-game-whittingham-utah.html.csp
It will be interesting to see if the Beavs make their offense look better than their average production, and if White has a good game.
Reser should be close to sold out, and the young QB should be dealing with quite a bit of noise.
Close to sold out isnt good enough. if an undefeated top I team cant sell out for a nationally televised game, then the fan base really needs to get off their asses. this is uncharted territory for OSU
Just realized its a 7:30 start….should be sold out, great atmosphere.
There were only a couple hundred seats left for the Utah game in the middle of last week. It’ll be a sell out for sure.
Somehow wins against Murray St, Savannah State, Wake Forest and BC, AND a loss to NC State rank a team higher than the Beavs?
Coaches poll is pure bullshit.
Look at the PAC-12 individual stats. For all the (well deserved) hype for DAT @ Oregon, Cooks and Wheaton are right up there in the upper echelon of producers.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/stats/2012/divia/conference/pac12/individual/index.html
Also, on the team stats, OSU leading in rushing D yardage and turnover margin.
Here is an early “projection” of the BCS rankings that come out at 5pm.
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rankings/bcs
The coaches poll is the main impediment to being ranked higher.
Idiots.
Harris Poll is no better.
http://www.harrisinteractive.com/vault/BCS_Oct_14_2012.pdf
They’ve got the beavs behind LSU, S. Carolina, Florida, and Oklahoma. In their defense, after watching the LSU/SC game last night, does anyone here think we could beat either of those teams?
Harris has the Beavs behind Oklahoma and FSU, laughable.
Not too bad. We are a dominant #8 in these BCS projections and very close to #7.
The BCS and AP get the most hype and publication so everyone will be thinking Oregon State atleast at #8 all week long. We need to have atleast 46,400 at the Utah game. majorly rock Reser for the ESPN national audience, show a commanding performance and we will be looking good. :)
C’mon on BYU beat the domers!
GREAT NEWS! It’s official!! The OSU Beaver Bandwagon is BACK! Yes folks… the long-lost and seldom used Bandwagon is back in business. Recently discovered in a corn field outside Monroe, the Bandwagon was abandoned in late 2009 after leaving Eugene. After almost three years of neglect it has been fully refurbished, fumigated and is now ready for re-boarding.
First priority for re-admittance will be given to: 1.) Those who relinquished their season tickets after 2011. 2.) Those who cancelled or didn’t fulfill their BASF pledge. 3.) Those who wrote a disparaging letter to the sports editor of a local newspaper. (documentation required) 4.) All contributing members of the AngryBeavs community. (Except maybe BeaverFever on general principals)
It is important to remember there is no need to push or shove. The Beaver Bandwagon has an infinite capacity to absorb all newcomers. As the team wins the Bandwagon expands exponentially.
Especially valued is the highly sought “Springfield contingent”. They can be easily identified by; bad tattoos adorning spindly arms, protruding from a tank top type tee-shirt and an ever-present case of warm Bud-Lite. The “Springfield contingent” is known to appear in any college stadium with a top 20 rating.
ALL ABOARD!! JB
I almost crashed into that wagon on the way home from the 2009 civil war.
Any truth to the rumor that the Monroe Dragons girls basketball team used the wagon for hayrides?
Yer in midseason form for sure, PB….. LOL….
Last year ESPN had a piece on the coaches poll voting. Rarely does any coach actually do the voting, they just hand it off to an underling. They don’t have the time and frankly the desire to review that many games in between their own game and the deadline for the votes.
They should just change the name of the poll since coaches have so little to do with it.
Don’t care about the polls except for the fact it is the polls that get you airtime, and it is airtime that gets you recruits. The Cinderella effect for OSU should boost recruiting. And if we boost our recruiting on top of this team, wow, we could really be a force to be dealt with in the next couple to four seasons.
That’s exactly right, and exactly why the polls DO matter.
Not to rain on your parade, but we lose two starting DTs, starting CB, and starting MLB from the defense. Wheaton graduates, and there’s nobody as explosive to replace him and compliment Cooks, either.
There are MLB options on the current roster, but no PAC quality DTs or CBs, so unless Riley hits the JC ranks hard next years defense won’t be as good. I mean, we are talking Martin at CB and Lopez at DT. I’m trying not to worry about it and enjoy this season, but it’s an issue. That bandwagon Bonehead is talking about will unload faster than it loaded.
What you say is true, but…
Looking ahead I didn’t see Reynolds playing at such a high level this year, maybe someone else makes that jump next year. DT is thin, but many here openly were worried before the season about the position, another pleasant surprise.
Keep winning and recruiting will be easier.
Keep wining and everything will be easier and better. It’s the pot at the end of the rainbow for teams that win. Losing teams get the shi…………!
I really liked Reynolds from the start.
Dislike Martin, Cummings, and Handford…really hope they can land a good JC CB or a prep who can start right away. Might be able to lure in a big name.
(C. Wallace and D. Shelton defections killed us).
OSU is thin everywhere on D…still a ton of work to do on the recruiting front.
handford is a senior this year isn’t he?
I think there’s future talent at DT (Collins and Bennett-Jackson), and CB (Scott and Hasty), but if they step up and get a fair shot that’s another story.
Also, I haven’t seen Rosa play much after the first 2 games. Does anyone know if he’s injured or just benched? I hope he can contribute next year at DT.
I forgot about Hasty. He’s a good looking prospect. Suddenly I feel better about Poyer leaving…thanks.
Watching Hasty’s film, I saw a little bit of Poyer in him. Plus I have heard he has been playing well in practice.
I assume Malik Gilmore will be in the mix at WR
It seems that young CB’s get plenty of playing time early and take their lumps, but when they hit their upperclass years they tend to become pretty shut down (Lewis, Clark, Hughes, Dockery, Lawson, etc) there have only been a few Weathersby where they are good from start to finish. Maybe Perry can work some magic and get the young kids performing. I have not been as down on Martin as others, he has been a victim of some plays, but that is what that position is about, and he keeps on battling. So hopefully we see him mature into one of those DB’s.
I agree, we are thin at LB, and I would also say Safety too. The DL seems to go without saying. Would love to see us get deeper on the D.

Thanks for posting. For some reason I can’t get it to play.
Gotta click the pause button then hit play again, should load
I tried, keep getting statement “lost connection, try again later”. Must be something to do with my computer. I have had no problems with other video’s posted or on youtube. I’d like to have watched it. I do appreciate your help.
It’s embedded over at my site in the main article. Try that if you are having no luck.
So it seems that through the BCS machinations of polls and computers we are a top ten team which is very exciting to say the least (take my word for it, I am excited). However, I am wondering if we are truly a top ten team. Are there only a few more teams in the country that are better than us? I think our resume is top ten, but hypothetically when we play other teams on a neutral team I feel like I can find 15 teams that would beat us. Where would you put the beavers if you voted anonymously? I would say they are the 14th team in the nation.
That’s all fair and I see where your reasoning is behind that, BUT could you also say that the Beavers could beat those same 15 teams on neutral field? I think it would be 50-50% on most of those teams.
Yeah, I think I just may have the beaver underdog, set-the bar-a-little lower culture in my own self. Its weird, I don’t like this top ten stuff- my defense mechanisms are up. It makes my heart rate go up every game we win. BUT, it sure is fun.
It’s not too hard. Just watch other ranked teams play and try to picture how the Beavs would hold up against them.
Riley has to be able to sell at least one junior college DT on something to the effect of, “You will be a starting DT on a top-15 team if you come to OSU.” Not only that, we play USC for the next four years which can be a selling point to SoCal kids.
LJ Moore 4star CB from Fresno is scheduled to visit this weekend. Close the deal!
A warm mug of Beaverjuice should do it.
Because of how early kids commit in the recruiting cycle these days I doubt we’ll see too many big time commits coming our way even with the excitement of this season. If we can finish in or around the top 10 this season I’m sure we are going to get a pretty nice pre-season ranking next year with all of the players that are coming back. That could set us up to compete for a pretty nice 2014 recruiting class. Just need to keep winning this year and good things will come.
speaking of how early kids commit in the recruiting cycle – check this out!
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/10/15/121015fa_fact_mcgrath
It refers to the USC commit, David Sills V, at age 13 – apparently that sort of thing is trending.
Song Girls probably did it.
Check out the Goe video segment. At about 54 seconds a guy behind him on the golf cart runs into one of the team benches behind him…. LOL

AHAHAHAHAHAHA, thank you for that.
LMAO
No caffeine?
What a dildo. Haha
bahahaha!
They are lining up outside of Reser.
For In and Out burgers?
So BDC… strike while the iron is hot! Great way to raise some wasy revenue. Give the students all the free popcorn they can eat, Then, in about an hour, circle back with drinks for sale. Genius!! JB
wasy is even easier than easy.
Thought maybe you were going the elmer fudd route with wasy wevenue

Beavs in the Wall St Journal?

I didn’t know Riley went on private jet with Chip Kelley from media day. Good motivation though seeing what wining can do. I hope Riley offered chip some Beaverjuice.
Winning and a Billion dollar donor.
This will piss of UO fans. Probably no NIKE advertizing in the Wall Street Journal for awhile.
We can thank former O-live reporter Rachel Bachman for the WSJ attention lately. she didnt forget her roots
i hate that little brother shit. osu is older than uo what a joke
I love the write-up but how do prospective recruits feel about Mayberry and Rube Goldberg et al.? I’m sure it makes their grandparents smile and nod but it may sound very unexciting to potential players (except for the winning part).
A golden opportunity for BDC to capitalize on In N Out Burger media frenzy and Beaverjuice. Some neet things could happen like win In N Out T-shirts, Bring In N Out to OSU…….would be great to build on present excitement…….but I doubt if BDC can be that creative or do something real cool. You never know………….?
I’m all for bringing an In-n-Out to Corvallis, but it would be extremely difficult because it isn’t a franchise, it’s a family owned resturant
What I was thinking of is a van or portable vehicle In N Out might have for remote location promotions.
I emailed In-N-Out a few weeks ago regarding their cookout trailer and received the following reply, ”
In response to your inquiry, our Cookout Trailer is unable to service your area at this time. We apologize for any disappointment, and are truly flattered by the invitation.” Who knows though, if we keep winning, maybe they’ll reconsider.
Thanks aicandme……here is the phone number for In N Out corporate office in California. Why don’t we all call and try to get something happening. Ask for Marketing or Public Relations departments. Couldn’t hurt.
In N Out corporate office phone number: (949) 509-6200
All ready done…..
*Already
I heard that In N Out won’t go too far away, where they can get “their” fresh beef to within 12 hours. That’s why you don’t see them expand anywhere to far from So Cal. It’s part of their business model, and not wanting to freeze their beef. That’s what I heard, but I don’t know how accurate that is, has anybody else heard anything like that?
Don’t be surprised if they show up…… ;-)
Imagine two of these set ups waiting the football players……
I reached out to CEO and four persons from the Marketing Department.
We shall see…..

That would be awesome calilumber. Thanks for contacting them. They are getting a lot of free publicity off the Beavers. I hope they do something, it would be to their benefit. A little back from our AD wouldn’t hurt, but I doubt he can think about real cool things to do. Just free dumb popcorn.
no complaints here about free popcorn.
Not sure of the NCAA regulations involved here. I am pretty sure giving athletes free meals in exchange for publicity would be a violation. If it were sponsorship… it might be a different story. I am not as well versed in this area of NCAA regulations.
True, but I doubt there is anything wrong with MR purchasing the food for the team. And with those large units, why not provide food, T-shirts and hats for fans.
And in.the poll that matters, the BCS, says Beavs #8
above Oklahoma and USC at 9 and 10
I will take it! That is so awesome. I am enjoying this ride. Let’s see how far we can climb. We owe some revenge on Utah, let’s get after it!
LOL Oregon #3 behind FLA and Bama
Florida jumps Oregon. OSU gets 8 in BCS
Again with the ESPN bullshit. out of all top 10 teams listed on theor BCS special, they never mention Oregon State. Theyre more concerned with the 1 loss teams. oh well, i guess flying under the radar will help keep the target off our backs.
sounds like ESPN staff need to drink some Beaverjuice.
Who’s got 2 thumbs and will be wearing a black #Beaverjuice t-shirt to the Utah game???
This guy!!!
The first half hour of BCS Countdown on ESPN did not get too in-depth on OSU. Completely different for the 2nd half hour of BCS Countdown on ESPNU. They were talking about Oregon State more than any other team just about. I checked in to see if just a replay, but it wasn’t and they were definitely drinkin’ the #BeaverJuice. :)
Detailed BCS Standings:

I thought I was dreaming. Major love for the Beavs from the two SEC guys.
They finally did some research, so it’s not Wheaton and that other guy.
Utah vs. UCLA game from yesterday on Pac-12 network now if you want to see them in play before our game Saturday.
Utah opening line, -10.5 OSU. Only second time this season Beavs aren’t vegas UDs.
Lindsay posting good news on the injury front after Riley’s phone call today. OTOH, Cliff is trying to stir a little controversy, saying that Vaz’s pep talk before the 4th qtr was, “…something Mannion wouldn’t do. So it stood out.”
Didn’t Mannion get fired up in the huddle before the final drive against Arizona? Players confirmed that. Cliff is so bad. He wants to work for ESPN in the worst way and saying dumb things usually helps with that. He’s a joke these days.
He just has to find a way to get people to actually read his material now. For some reason, the people who run his blog think that they are the New York Times. When I run out of clicks for the month, I won’t even pay the Times to read an article, who are they fooling?
I won’t even look at all now. I pay enough in side ads. Lost me as a reader for sure, and I used to read his every article.
It’s a joke that the Gazette would try to charge. For being right there, I personally find that Cliff doesn’t get any better information than anyone else.. Portland Tribune seems to have the best Beaver articles with the Eggers/Riley connection.
Was it Hamlett that said Mannion had “the look” before that final drive?
Storm said it
I am so pleased with this win. It is the best win of the season from what i can tell. Our quarterback was injured and we won with a young man who is really almost if equally as good as as Mannion. This is the sign of a true program that can sustain itself and prosper. There are fans all over the world watching now and as a filipina who roots for my guys almost 10,000 miles away. I can truly say, I am so proud. Keep the fight and the focus boys. We are so proud of you and wish you success. You can do it!!!!! Goooo Beaver…
Always wondered, how did you become a fan all the way over there?
Kevin Palma committed to Stanford.
So much for riding the momentum of a top 10 ranking, and getting recruits.
Oh well. Really hoped to get Palma just didn’t work out. Samson Faifili is another linebacker I like and I think he’s definitely going to commit to the Beavers. No other visits planned and he loved his visit. He’s not as highly rated as Palma but I think he’s going to be really good. He’s quick, hard hitter and tackles well. With him being a JC guy, he’s a guy who can come in and make an impact early which is what the Beavers need next season.
No offense to our constantly improving OSU academics, but unless you’re a lock to play NFL ball you take that free ride to Stanford.
No Rosie Palma. That sucks.
Poyer leads the nation in interceptions per game.
Crichton leads the nation in sacks per game.
Cooks #2 in the nation in receiving yards per game.
Wheaton #6 in the nation in receptions per game.
Romaine leads in shanks per game. Give the man his due.
This may come as a surprise, but romaine is second in the conference in field goal percentage also. I still feel the less he kicked the better.
Someone in here also wanted Kostol to get bounced at week one or two.
he wasn’t very good in the wisconsin game to be fair. Definitely a monster though. It’s the consistency more than anything.
How about PAT %?
Hypothetically speaking, what if the ncaa finally ruled on UO during the season and found them guilty of violations leading to a bowl ban? Would that be effective immediately? Or start the next season. has something similar happenwd before to anybody’s knowledge? (getting a bowl ban midseason)
I know Ohio state got to play in a bowl a couple years ago when Tressel got fired for the tatoo gate deal.
I bet that it would be effective next season. Even if it wasn’t, UO could immediately appeal and that would bump the ban for at least a year.
On the AngryBeavs Yahoo Game Picker:
OneOldBeav improving on his dartboard theory from las week, has passed my wife to leave her in last place of active participants. She reminds me that I tied her at 10 this week. In first place is Sad Beaver! Followed by Homefry, and a tie for 3rd with MichaelM and JasonTheBeaver. JD in 5th. I’m in 9th place overall and still hurting from a bad week 6… Don’t let my wife beat cha!
Gotta get my picks in before Beavers4life…
This week no surprises from me. ASU, Stan, USC, OSU, UofA. Elsewhere in top 25 I’m taking 3 upsets… South Carolina, TexAM, BYU. And hoping(not predicting) for Miss St and WV to win and clear some undefeateds.
It’s funny how being in the top10 makes me care so much less about rankings 35-20.
I would pick KState to win out and potentially bump us from a BCS game, if not for the road trip to wv this week. I think this first trip to Morgantown continues to throw off big12 teams this year and next.
K-State might put up 90 on WVU…
I’m not buying K-State going undefeated. I wasn’t that impressed with them on Saturday vs Iowa State. Their QB Klein is solid, and isn’t afraid to run it (he would shred OSU’s D) He leads his team in rushing touchdowns, which is why I think they’ll eventually have problems. If he gets hurt, their season is over, and he puts himself in harms way far too often. Their schedule isn’t easy the rest of the season either. No powerhouse teams, but all games will present challenges. WVU is even favored next week (by a small margin) and they probably feel like they have something to prove.
They can have something to prove all they what but their defense is still atrocious. Collin Klein may get hurt but he ran more last season and didn’t get hurt. He rarely takes a big hit. I think he’ll be fine. K-State will limit WVU and they just don’t turn the ball over. I think they’ll handle WVU. I actually think K-State will go 12-0. They don’t face a great team the rest of the way. To beat K-State you need a really good offense and defense and you can’t turn the ball over. Texas Tech is the closest to that but it’s in Manhattan and K-State is the better team. Baylor, Texas, WVU, and Ok State can’t play defense. I like Kansas State a lot, think they’ll be playing for a national title.
Go Beavs!
Saturday forecast is 40% chance of rain. I would like to see the Beavs put up 500 yards this week with 200 on the ground. This game really comes down to Banker having the D in position to shut down White and the Utes running game.
Vas>>>>Mannion
Lmao you’re insane
NO INTS!!!
In one game!!! Mannion didn’t have any in his first game of the year either. And he only had 1 after 3 games. What does that prove?
I was very impressed with Cody in his first game. I like his skill set. I still think Mannion is the better QB but it is very nice to have little drop off when you get to the 2nd string.
Nice picture of Poyer on the front page of ESPN.
Just logged on to post that, haha.
I’m not paying to read a story by an SEC company that’s funded with Nike ad dollars. That’s just me.
Is there a link to cover photo?

Any ESPN insiders here who want to share this story with us?
http://insider.espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8507029/oregon-state-aerial-attack-stout-run-defense-lead-pac-12-north-title-ncf
At some level, it would be understandable if the rise of the Oregon State Beavers to No. 8 in the BCS standings and the most recent AP Top 25 poll is viewed with a bit of skepticism. After all, the Beavers have ranked this high in the top 10 in only three weeks since the 1969 season, and are 3-0 in conference play for the first time since 1968, so there is a long history of less-than-elite on-field performances for this program.
In addition, Oregon State resides in the Pac-12 North, a division that includes the Oregon Ducks, who are No. 3 in the BCS standings and No. 2 in the AP poll, and the Stanford Cardinal, whose two losses belie the fact this squad has top-10 caliber talent.
The combination of those factors might make it seem as if Oregon State simply should be happy with having made it this far. But a closer look at the situation indicates the Beavers very well may have a strong chance of earning a berth in the Pac-12 championship game.
A review of the team’s statistical highlights based on the tape further supports the Beavers’ positive outlook.
Oregon State ranks second in the Pac-12 in passing yards per attempt (YPA), according to cfbstats.com. What may be more surprising is that the Beavers’ 8.4 YPA is eight-tenths of a yard higher than USC’s YPA, so their aerial game is actually more efficient than what could be considered the most talented passing attack in college football.
Teams with high-powered offenses often offset that advantage with poor defenses that cannot keep up with the fast pace opponents adopt in an effort to stay close on the scoreboard. But the Oregon State defense is an exception to that rule, ranking second in the Pac-12 in fewest points per game allowed (18.4).
One reason for that superb showing is a powerful run defense that ranks fourth in the nation (and first in the Pac-12) in rush yards per game allowed (70.0), as well as tied for eighth in the FBS in the category of rushes of 10 or more yards allowed (17).
Throw in the best turnover margin in the conference (a plus-1.2 turnovers per game average, tied for 13th nationally), and it completes the picture of a team that excels on both sides of the football.
Those great team numbers are highlighted by a number of individual achievements.
That category has to start with Markus Wheaton. He is second in the Pac-12 in receiving touchdowns (six); third in receiving yards per game (112.8); tied for fourth with receptions of 10 or more yards (24); and tied for third in receptions of 20 or more yards (nine).
What makes Wheaton’s case for potential first-team All-Pac-12 status even stronger is his showing in the route-depth metric categories (see chart).
Deep Impact
Markus Wheaton’s performance all over the field has been impressive.
Route Depth Comp Att Yds TD Int Pen Pen Yds YPA
Short (1-10 yards) 23 28 190 0 0 0 0 6.8
Medium (11-19 yards) 9 17 123 2 0 0 0 7.2
Deep (20-29 yards) 7 10 158 3 0 0 0 15.8
Bomb (30+ yards) 2 5 93 1 0 1 15 18.0
Total 41 60 564 6 0 1 15 9.5
Vertical (11+ yards) 18 32 374 6 0 1 15 11.8
Stretch Vertical (20+ yards) 9 15 251 4 0 1 15 16.6
To get an idea of just how good these figures are, consider that they compare well versus the types of numbers posted by the top 10 wide receiver prospects in the 2012 NFL draft. As long as he keeps up this performance level, Wheaton’s 2013 NFL draft stock value should continue to rise.
Wheaton is not the only downfield threat the Beavers have at their disposal. Sophomore wideout Brandin Cooks’ 19.4 yards per reception average is the second-highest mark in that category among wideouts with at least 30 receptions this year.
Oregon State also has a solid rushing attack led by Storm Woods, whose 81 rushing yards per game average ranks seventh in the Pac-12.
The leader on defense is cornerback Jordan Poyer, whose five interceptions leads the Pac-12 and ranks second nationally. His terrific early season start is so strong that it has earned him a spot on Mel Kiper’s list of the top-five senior cornerback NFL prospects.
The Beavers’ special-teams group also features some individual high points: Keith Kostol ranks third in the conference in punting (43.5 yard average) and kicker Trevor Romaine ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage (75.0 percent).
Up until a couple of weeks ago, quarterback Sean Mannion might have been touted as the best player on this team, as his 8.0 YPA ranks second only to Arizona State’s Taylor Kelly in the conference.
The issue for Mannion is that he recently underwent knee surgery that will keep him out for at least a couple of weeks.
The loss of a player of that caliber might set back most teams a step or two, but Oregon State’s offense did not miss a beat last weekend, when backup junior quarterback Cody Vaz, who hadn’t started a game since high school, was asked to replace Mannion against Brigham Young.
Vaz proved more than capable for the task, as he went 12-for-16 for 271 yards and two touchdowns on vertical passes (those thrown 11 or more yards downfield) — and that doesn’t include the 30 yards on pass interference penalties the Beavers gained on two other vertical throws. Put them together and he averaged 16.7 yards per vertical pass attempt, which is an incredibly high total and illustrates how this offense can succeed with either Vaz or Mannion under center.
Oregon State should certainly be considered a strong favorite over their next two foes, the Utah Utes (who rank last in the Pac-12 in offensive yards per play and yards per game) and Washington Huskies (whose QB, Keith Price, ranks last in passing YPA and whose defense ranks last in the conference in rush yards per game allowed). But after that, the schedule gets tougher with matchups against Arizona State, Stanford, California and Oregon.
The Beavers might be able to go 4-2 in those six games (especially considering that the Arizona State and California matchups occur at Reser Stadium), which would leave them with a 7-2 conference mark.
In many seasons, a 7-2 record probably would not be enough to reach the Pac-12 title game, but this season could be an exception because Stanford, which already has one conference loss, still has California, Oregon State, Oregon and UCLA on the docket (with three of those games on the road).
Oregon has zero losses on its ledger, but still has road games at Arizona State, USC, California and Oregon State to go along with a home contest against Stanford, so it is within the realm of possibility that the Ducks also could lose two conference games.
Put another way, with each passing week it starts to look more and more as if the Pac-12 North title could boil down to whichever team wins this year’s civil war battle between the Beavers and Ducks.
thanks ESPN! Nice article. Let’s hope things continue as they have been. If the Ducks lose to ASU Saturday, the Pac 12 North race will be very fun to watch this season.
I was checking the official stats on the NCAA website and the Beavers are all over the place, very impressive. The one real negative was penalties. Clean those up and they might win some of the tougher games coming up.
I think they should win the games leading up to the Civil War. Their toughest games are all at home and they play a Stanford team who cannot throw on the road but Stanford isn’t a tough place to play. Only other road game is at UW and they have a horrible offensive line and Price is struggling and teams run all over them. Schedule sets up nicely down the stretch with the exception of the tough game against the Ducks.
As far as the penalties go, I saw a much more disciplined team for most of the game. Only saw 1 holding penalty, 1 PI and 1 false start. Didn’t see any defensive holding or roughing the passer or clippings that kill offensive drives. Poyer had a PI but it was a smart play. Most of the penalties came from just being aggressive or weren’t bad plays like the one on Poyer. Agnew’s on the punt was an odd play. Didn’t see the dumb penalties like we have been seeing this year to kill offensive drives or extend an opposing team’s drive. I think the team is just starting to play smarter(Especially the offensive line) and that’s going to really pay off against the better teams.
Amazing quarterback play by Beaver quarterbacks.
Mannion is the prototypical NFL QB. He has the size, strength, and accuracy to dominate. He’s the starter when he comes back. No matter what Vaz does.
Vaz was amazing. He threw very accurately and he showed a very strong arm. One pass was on a rope forty yards. He’s slow and I think they need to move the pocket for him to avoid the batted passes. Could have led to some picks.
I have been watching Katz as well at San Diego State. He’s been tearing it up in the Mountain West. I think he’ll get drafted and would have pushed Mannion for the starting job. Riley has been doing a great job getting QB talent into OSU.
Vaz certainly isn’t fast, but at least he’s more mobile than Mannion.
Katz sucks. He’s playing Mountain West teams like Hawaii and Colorado State. Dude couldn’t beat Sac State enough said.
I don’t think Katz sucks at all. He’s doing what he’s supposed to do against lesser competition. Rocky Long is taking advantage of his ability to run also. SDSU’s defense seems to be down this year. I hope Katz has a good game against Boise St.
More positive coverage for Riley, Beavs:

I think Wheaton and Cooks deserve more attention…
Called it.
Cody Vaz is the Pac-12 Offensive POTW.
Backup Vaz 1. Barkley + Barner + DeAnthony Thomas = Zero.
Hehe.
To be fair, Barne and Thomas had a bye week. VAS was better than Barkley though!
They’ve also played 6 games and Vaz has played 1.

The editing is nice. Really like the hit at 1:45
Cheerleaders/dance team? They work hard and train, they should be (respectfully) included…
And they should get out of my way when I’m trying to watch a game. I didn’t pay to see them.
The Oregon State “wear black” PSA has been released. Is this really necessary?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=23mQXXEJ0pE
What a ridiculous waste of time. “Hey, this might be construed as racist, so lets get all uber-sensitive about it and tell people who had no clue it could even remotely be an issue that they’re possibly being racist.” Bunch of nancy PC bullshit.
“Whatever brings down one of us, brings down all of us.”
I have to say I disagree. There are certain people who will find a way to be offended by anything. The only way to stop them from throwing a fit every time is to stop giving them attention like this. The university seriously just need to let this whole thing go.
This one cuts both ways.
I know they’re not talking to me, so I’m not going to respond to them getting their undies in a bunch by getting my undies in a bunch and whining about them getting their undies in a bunch.
This is rediculous.
*radicchio?
Woops must have been mixing retarded with ridiculous
Is there somewhere I can bet on Wisconsin making the Rose Bowl? With their win against Purdue this weekend, they basically guaranteed themselves a spot in the B10 title game with tOSU and Penn St. both ineligible. They will have to play Michigan or NWern but hey they have at least a 50/50 shot.
So the Beavers have already beaten a likely BCS bowl team.
I’ve never stopped believing that wisconsin would make rose bowl. Seems like a good bet to me.
Kerry Eggers just on the radio saying Mannion hasn’t been ruled out yet for this week’s game. Says he doesn’t expect him to play, but it’s looking pretty positive for him to return before UW.
What in the HELL!?! lol I have no idea what happened here.

You really think Oregon will lose? Coming off a bye week, waiting to make a statement about their BCS ranking? I’d love to see them get beaten, but don’t think it will happen. Maybe if Barner gets injured they lose, but I’d hate to be ASU this week.
Maybe. But we really don’t how good Oregon is. They have not played a good team on the road or a true road game this season. Arizona imploded and the other opponents were Arkansas State, Fresno State, Tennessee Tech, Wazzu(Neutral field) and Washington. ASU’s offense has been looking pretty good in recent weeks. I think Oregon will be tested.
I can’t say exactly how good Oregon is, but I think they are pretty good, and I think they are good enough to beat up ASU. As always with my Oregon predictions, I hope I am wrong, but I see them handling ASU.
Uo seems to be as explosive as usual. That is, a high number of big plays and on to a big score total. Seems to me for an opponent of theirs to be successful, they need to be able to disrupt their offense…..not allow the big plays. USC did it last year. Or just have a lot of breaks not go their way.
ASU on the road for them might be interesting.. I think we might give them a challenge this year. Riley really seems to be motivated.
ASU is by far their best opponent yet. I think it’ll be close (at least for a while)…
I hope so. I want to see Mariota in a true pressure situation. He’s receiving a lot of hype for beating a lot of crappy teams. If they destroy the Sun Devils on the road, then I’m a believer.
Numbers predicted the same wins as I did, and I just now noticed it. lol I’ve been wrong only 2 games a week…So I’m hoping I’m wrong about Oregon losing so we can work towards both teams being undefeated for the Civil War and the other I’m probably wrong on is the either the CAL game or the Washington game. those are pick’em games to me.
Kelly’s the better coach, there’s speed everywhere, and some size now with Lyera(sp?). UO is more familiar with the pressure and attention. I think the smart pick is on UO.
“Storm hasn’t been overwhelmed by these games as a lot of freshmen are,” Riley said. “And Malcolm on that one run — he just ran over the linebacker. I loved seeing that. Right now, they’re a great 1-2 punch for us.”
Great to see more than one back get some touches. The depth at that position is probably better than it’s ever been from 1st string to 3rd; though the top end isn’t as good as previous greats.
Was watching some Chip Kelly interviews… man is he a cocky, arrogant little prick.
Was he wearing a push-up bra?
Again with the veiled “man boobs” reference? I love it.
If Oregon State beats Utah this Saturday it will equal the all time greatest start in OSU history. The 1907 team went undefeated at 6-0 one hundred and five years ago. To match a mark over 100 years old would already make this year a special season to remember. I agree with Cooks that they are just getting going and before all is said and done they may own this distinction all by themselves. To potentially set the record alone it is great that this team would have to beat a Washington team on the road which even the Fiesta Bowl Beavs were unable to quite pull off. This team deserves an attendance record this Saturday to go along with what hopefully should be a tie of the all time OSU record! :)
FirstSnap: Oregon State vs Utah
http://beaverbyte.com
Will the Beavers be adding Multnomah Athletic Club or Whitman to their schedule in honor of the 1907 season? They may be better competition than Nicholls State.
Of course that Washington team was actually good.

These two knew something awhile ago.

Well, it will come from the state of Oregon… OREGON STATE
I don’t hate Chip Kelly at all. He’s seems like a good guy//coach to me
I can’t stand the ass. Ever since his handling of Blount, I’ve totally dispised him. And ever since that time his actions have done nothing but increase my disgust in him. But who knows, maybe I will learn to forgive his assyness if we win the state’s first nc title this year?
Dude can coach.
the guy is an arrogant masshole. i can’t wait till the NCAA throws down some sort of probation to a coach and program that just reeks of corruption.
I note for the record the passive-aggressive mumble Coach Kelly made about “hot tubs”…evidently he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to state that such training room staples are for pussies, not the University of Oregon.
So, yeah…he can’t help but be a dick. It’s part of his DNA. Not to take anything away from his considerable coaching skills, but the guy is a tool.
Thats actually not whats happening here. Oregon was in the paper that week because they were being accused of adding a hot tub in the coach’s office of their new multi million dollar football facility. the news report was imcorrect though and Kelly was cracking a joke about how you cant mention hot tubs around UofO. i actually thought he was being pretty likable in this interview.
Unfortunately I agree. He’s sort of likable in the interview, which sucks to say cause I love to hate him.
Okay. I was bereft of needed context.
I wish to amend my enmity for Coach Kelly because he cheats while recruiting.
Carry on…
That was a fun interview, thanks.

Does missing out on the first game with Nicholls St hurt the Beavs in regards to the BCS? No matter how long we stay undefeated, we’ll always have one less win than the other undefeated teams. Its hard to argue body of work when your body of work is smaller than the other guys. We’ll eventually get that game (or better yet, the pac 12 championship game) but having it come so late could actually be a bad thing as far as trying to rise in the rankings for bowl positioning.
Not playing them has helped the Beavers in the BCS Rankings. One less bad team to play and makes the resume and SOS look a lot better. OSU doesn’t plan on playing Nicholls State anyway, Pac-12 Championship at Reser, November 30th
It helps us. It’s like the RPI in baseball when you play Hartford. The humans will not give us any credit, but the stronger SOS gives us a push in the computers.
I see Oregon State’s game against UW will be a 7:15 kickoff on the Pac-12 Network. Not really a fan of the late starts. Hate waiting all day for the game to start.
God damn I hate watching our games on the pac-12 network. Horrible announcers make it almost unbearable to watch the games with the sound on. Reminds me of the days when we had some games televised on versus.
I miss Petros Pappadakis. He was a Trojan, but the guy made me laugh.
I call him Paco Pacadakalous. Can’t believe he got a broadcasting gig with his voice, but I have also come like him.. You knew it was a PAC-10 game when you heard that raspy voice.
Petros has a pretty good radio gig in LA too. He’s pretty crazy on the Petros and Money show. Compare that to the Tv football broadcasts and you’ll see how much the tv networks make him dial it back. His voice is probably raspy because of all the screaming he does on the radio.

He also guest hosts for Jim Rome from time to time when Rome is away on vacation.
Love it because of tailgating!! lol
We need to focus on beating Utah. Last year we were Utahs first ever pac12 conference win. A horrible distinction to have. This year, Utah again has not won a conference game yet. Last year we lost 27-8. We cannot under-estimate Utah. I hope our excitement and BCS run does not interfere the job ahead this week. Beat Utah. I think I’ll paint my face black with a little orange this week.
Utah plays hard and Whittingham is a good coach. They’ve run out of talent on the offensive side of the ball for the short term, but I’m not sure it will be a blow out.
Don’t forget your black fro wig Numbers.
Just announced, if you are going to the game be sure to wear your black face paint and afro wigs.
Hey, … I suggest a black ski mask.
Yes, that might offend all convienence store robbers, but fuck em. And, if you dont have a ticket, the ski mask might get you in free.
I cant see us taking Utah lightly. Its pay back time.
The last four words…
Do we think Banker forgot that Whittingham called him out last year?
This could be one ugly game.
Whittingham correctly called out the OSU coaches last year – he is a good coach. I trust the Beavs don’t think of this as a gimmee. The best revenge is doing well.
Some people just live in denial. I guess it’s easy when reality deprivation is your reality. But damn, the Beavs just beat the BYU defense to a pulp. BYU did nothing different against the best receiving corps they’re going to face all year.
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765611875/BYU-football-Cougar-secondary-hurt-and-hungry-after-loss-to-Oregon-State.html
In football, you can’t just admit that the other team had stronger, better and faster players, it’s always the scheme or mental mistakes. Clearly, Cooks and Wheaton were two of the better players on the field and BYU had no answer.
If it gets em pissed and they beat ND……………..all good.
Read through the comments on that article. The BYU fans aren’t buying that BS either. They are calling their team out for not taking accountability.
Wow, BYU fans suck. More than one commented that they won’t watch this weekend. I personally thought they have a good chance this weekend. Notre Dame is not as good as OSU, and we taught them a lot about themselves and playing assignment football. Seems like they could learn a little from last week and put up the fight this week. At least we don’t give up on a the team after some losses. Sure some of us demand change. But I still watched all the games last year.
And Adam Gorney gives a follow-up on that SoCal Beavs plane and the buzz it’s creating.

Loved this quote: “Man, USC isn’t sending me a plane.”
They are probably buying them for their recruits.

OSU Facebook page has a section where you can vote on which 3rd quarter song/video they should play. Choices are AC/DC-TNT or Psy- Gangnam Style
http://www.facebook.com/OregonStateBeavers?v=app_153839431317646&rest=1
Anybody who was at the game last week probably was caught off guard with the new Gangnam Style song being played. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always liked AC/DC, but it’s getting stale to play TNT to pump up the crowd. Gangnam Style is nothing more than a gimmicky song that won’t be around for long, but it did a good job in getting the crowd energy up. I actually hope it wins, but right now it trails TNT.
I voted for Gangnam Style, for the exact reasons you just said. I also suggested significantly better song choices for the team (Going Down and Street Fighter War).
It’d be nice to move out of 1975 and into the 21st century, but the old farmers and hicks won’t allow it. AC/DC forever!
Looks like Boise State is a step ahead on both helmets and blackouts. The black helmet, with players number on one side follows some of the ideas that have been discussed here. Not sure from the pic if the black is a carbon/graphite/dull finish.
Could an Angry Beav be made to look as fierce as that bronco?
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/boise-state-wins-award-best-black-helmet-photos-162103743–ncaaf.html
Those look sweet!
I previously posted that I wanted to see numbers on one side and State on the other in matte black.
Looks like some arena league pro team to me, not impressed.
Was listening to 1080 and they mentioned that there is a rumor that Tyner is de-committing. Doubt there is any validity to the rumor but it sure would be awesome to see him in black and orange next year. Kind of a punk but you have to like his playmaking abilities.
Hey BeaverFever… We missed you!! It’s been a couple of weeks. Did you lock yourself in the bathroom again or were you off on some gambits? Welcome back…big relief!! JB
I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is for more Beaver
Always impressed with your quick replies. Clearly a job isn’t inhibiting your ability to constantly monitor a fan blog.
Squiggy from “Laverne and Shirley” had something to do with the Portland Beaver baseball team many years ago (maybe a part owner?) and in a pre-game ceremony for a game I was at he actually yelled on microphone “Beaver Fever, Snatch It” in front of man, woman and child. I always thought it was kind of funny, but I don’t think they allowed him on microphone the rest of the season.
Why is he a punk? Just because he went to the dark side, ditched his kids, killed his mentor, lopped off his son’s hand when he got the chance… all while committing genocide and destroying a couple planets in the process?
Wait… are we talking about the same dude?
I had a really bad cold so I doubled down on some Nyquel cold medicine. Put me in a 7 day coma, but when I woke up the Beavs were still undefeated! Wow I thought I was dreaming, ( I smell roses)
Hekker no longer has to feel bad

Beavers make the front page of Yahoo! News. http://m.yahoo.com/w/ygo-frontpage/lp/story/us/2728528/coke.bp%3B_ylt=AgMmlc5VRAYhxuk2Gk4EtzGx.tw4%3B_ylu=X3oDMTF1cW4waHA4BGNwb3MDMTgEY3NlYwNtb2JpbGUtdGQEaW50bAN1cwRwa2cDaWQtMjcyODUyOARwb3MDMTgEc2xrA2ltYWdl?ref_w=frontdoors&view=today&.intl=US&.lang=en&.tsrc=yahoo
For the airplane things again. But a neat deal to get it out even more.
Then inside the article they link to the Ducks website. Awesome.
Hey, the article gets Beavers some attention. And realize the link to the Ducks probably pisses them off, too.
Watched the 2001 Fiesta game that @uncanny linked (missed it live as I didn’t have TV/bar away from the dorms my first year of college).
Wow. I attended games live that season, but re-watching is nice. OSU was tough! Defense was super fast!! They didn’t even always do what they should have, but the aggressiveness was amazing and benefited them greatly! Siegler, Allen, & Barnett were always on top of the QB and the hand-offs to the RB seemed to end up almost as negative yardage more often than not (17 yards rushing for ND total). Passing game showed positives in the secondary (Weathersby & Heyward), though they weren’t tested as much as most in the PAC-12 these days. Offense did well. Long, sustained drives. They seemed even slower than our current team (2012), even though we rank #1 in the nation in time of possession thus far. Maybe that’s just the change of the game over a decade? Cesca even proved his worth in the first half when the Beavs had issues converting in the red zone.
Johnathan Smith took awhile to settle down, but finished strong (16-24; 305 yrds; 3TD; sat out 4th). Both Mannion and Vaz seem equal or even more crisp currently than he did. Don’t get me wrong, I love Smith, but Vaz especially looks like the second coming with the zip on the ball that they both share. C.Johnson dropped a couple he should have held (including a 74 yard TD 1/2 yard from the goal line that wasn’t reviewed). T.J.H. was lights out multiple times and did a great job on returns. Simonton (18-85;1TD) just kept chugging along to benefit the TE & WR corp! More than anything though, the Beavs’ sense of power/desire/confidence/aggressiveness sealed the dominating win/season for them.
I feel that we seem much more refined at this stage in the season then the Fiesta Beavs did (at the bowl game point). I’m not sure how many penalty yard they accrued, but it seemed like close to 200+. (Just checked. 18 penalties for 174 yards) Yikes!!!
Still, the game has changed over the last 10+ years. I’m excited with the team that we have now. Not only because we’re undefeated, but because I love the progressions I’ve seen. I’m not sure where we’ll end up, but I feel spectacular after watching that game! These guys have a lot going for them. Now more than ever before, I think that the mentality they bring into each week will dictate the overall product we see on the field.
The sky’s the limit and I’m hopeful for a strong finish! Go Beavs!!
I have a copy of that game and watch it once in a while. A real boost. The whole “you cant recruit for Corvallis” polyanna crap is blown away by that season and Fiesta Bowl. I recall that one of the NC game coaches saying he was glad he didnt have to play the Beavs.or something like that.
Seeing that same quality this year….
Steve I have been thinking a little about the whole “you can’t recruit to Corvallis” deal, and I have come to this conclusion. You don’t have to bring in top 20 recruiting classes to be a top 20 team. This years team and the fiesta bowl team aren’t/weren’t full of blue chip recruits. Oregon State since Riley took over in 97 through the Erickson years to the present has been very good at recruiting “the right players”and coaching them up into players who can compete with the blue chippers. I can’t remember a time where on signing day we finished in the top half of conference rankings, but we constantly finishing in the upper half at the end of the season.
In conclusion I do think it is difficult to recruit the 5* blue chip players to Corvallis, but you certainly can recruit to Corvallis, you just might notice it on signing day.
i don’t buy the whole can’t recruit to corvallis thing. think about how many bigtime schools are out in the middle of nowhere that recruit great – and how many are in major metro areas that recruit poorly. the whole concept is overrated and simply not true. i think college towns are actually at an advantage in the recruiting game – many big city athletes enjoy the change of atmosphere.
Agree. I’ve never understood the concept that you can’t recruit to Corvallis. It’s tough getting in n out of Corvallis – waiting at 4 a.m., on campus (lights are on in some of the labs and there are runners about) for the airport shuttle and the train/bus connections to Corvallis don’t fit either.
Not sure why OSU doesn’t seem to recruit from the middle of the country. I think Corvallis is better than anyplace at all in Kansas, for example.
that beavs team was the best in the nation by the end of the season IMO. i watch the game often and am in awe of the swarming speed on D.
Tyner decommits from the Ducks
http://oregon.247sports.com/Article/Thomas-Tyner-decommits-from-Oregon-to-take-other-visits-96275
Interested in the Beavs perhaps?
Saw that… hmmm… Fink? Notre Dame? The Great Saban?
I kinda knew (thought I knew) in fall camp when he was showing up with Kearsley to watch scrimmages that he was unsettled there.
I’m hoping Kearsley comes here big time. He’s just a nasty nasty trench digger.
Interesting since Kearsley is a BYU commit and we just beat up BYU. Would be great if he sees the chance to play alongside Seumalo as an opportunity to stay close to home and still get national exposure. Oregon hasnt offered him but osu has. the idea that you could start as a freshman has to look appealing.
Kearsley would still have a hard time cracking the first team with four of this year’s line returning. But he would likely crack the 2d, and he would be in a good spot as a soph to be the fifth hoss among Weinreich, Andrews, Keller, Addie, Bays, Mitchell, Eldredge, Phillips, Sapolu and Seumalo.
Mitchell and Andrews are the only other frosh playing this year that I know of.
Tyner committed, what, a year ago?
This is just like a high school kid breaking up with his hot girlfriend because he doesn’t want to feel tied down. He’ll bounce around a bit, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up back with the Ducks.
As usual the Ducks are handling it with such class.
Ducks’ fans*
Honeslty, I don’t want him at Oregon State.. he seems like a diva and think he would be a ‘Kobe’ for our team. Plus, I love Storm Woods, he is a blue collar kid and he’ll be damn good too (already is).
He’s a great talent, would be nice to have someone like that, but wouldn’t care if he stayed a Duck o went somewhere else. The Beavers are in good shape at RB and always recruit well at the running back position. Not a position I’m ever really concerned with. Storm Woods is good and will truly be a beast in another year.
That’s if Woods manages to keep his primary role once the redshirt comes off Brown.
good leadership can change that. i think he’s worth the risk.
Maybe. Storm and Tyner would be a big combo.
I wouldn’t mind having Tyner at all. The guy is a killer talent, also he would help the rebuilding of our track program.
Whatever. I want him here, but I would rather have him as solely a T&F guy. He has a natural gift in his speed, and I think it’s wasted in football glory for a couple years of pay… if he ever makes it there. He’s better than Bailey was at his age.
And he had a couple concussions and lingering hammy issues last year as well. He does have the option to go to school and beyond in another sport… one without all the pain involved.
Speaking of natural talents and injuries, Tatum Taylor was hurt this last weekend and might be out for the season? His ankle? I haven’t heard much on that. Anyone know?
That is a tough call Jack. Because ultimately you have to become one of the ten very best sprinters in the world, if not better, before you really start making any money. With football however, you get your big signing bonus up front. There is more money in football, even for a short career, and you never HAVE to be the greatest, just good for your time.
I think he has world class talent if he concentrates on just running. I don’t know if he reaches the top, but he should certainly be running in the final heat of major meets for years to come as a pro. And he has the musculature to be a top shelf 200m runner as well.
However, I don’t see him coming close to that level if he continues with football. Forget potential injury. The weight, strength and cumulative and continuous injury/rehab required for that sport takes more than half the year off your required work load to reach those heights. Running is like any other sport. To be a pro, you have to focus and train year round.
This might be a dumb question…does OSU still have an offer out to him?
Almost forgot we had Chris Brown….. hes gonna be a stud too.
Maybe Tyner knows something we don’t, sanctions… Jack maybe right, maybe the concussions have taken a toll and he is looking for track and education combined. Yes, we have a new team and a great school but I think he probably wants a place known for both already. One of my neighbors plays footbal with him, I will ask the kid as see what he says.
ESPN says he’s being wooed by UCLA.
Would you rather go to college there or Eugene?
I don’t really care so long as he doesn’t wear an orange polo when he announces his decision.
How’s this for one grade A douche of a fucking tool?
http://www.csnnw.com/pages/landingdwight?Will-somebody-make-Thomas-Tyner-an-offer=1&blockID=789931&feedID=8351
To paraphrase:
“I’m not saying Tyner is dirty. What I’m saying is that’s the most likely explanation.”
I feel a little slimy after reading that.
And rationalizes the thought by saying that he would encourage his son to “look”. More of a self indictment piece than anything else. I’m less intelligent for having read it.
