6pm tonight.
Should be a great series. Gut says Boyd wins, Wetlzer loses, and Moore is a wildcard, but not a strong feeling on any of that. So, I am thinking 2-1 best case, but who knows, Beavs have confidence and are playing well. They've also been hearing about their weak schedule, so that could motivate them further.
Stream available at:
pac-12.com/live/arizonawildcats.aspx or http://pac-12.com/live/arizonawildcats2.aspx
Regarding television availability: Oregon State and Arizona got word from the Pac-12 earlier this week that Sunday's game will no longer be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks. The three-game series, however, is slated to be streamed for free via Pac-12.com.
Yay for the Pac-12 Network?
I have to say, the baseball streams are nice and high quality. Love that Mike Parker isn't doing the games (had to throw that in there).
Stoked for this series. Gotta get 2 at least.
Unrelated: Lyle Moevao will be a grad assistant next year, helping out with running backs, which seems odd.
Yeah saw that. Been saying he’d be a great recruiter at some point and maybe this is the first step…
He needs to get his foot in the coaching door some how. It’s also good if he does have coaching aspirations to broaden his football knowledge and learn other positions.
I think Lyle fits well with Bray and the other newer guys. Has to help further with the mental attitude and aggressiveness of the team.
Arizona’s three starters this weekend, Konner Wade, James Farris and Cody Moffett all have good ERA’s, but are all guys the Beavers can hit. Arizona has the type of ballpark the Beavers hitters should thrive in. They have a lot of line drive, gap to gap hitters and this ballpark has enormous gaps in the outfield. I think the Beavers are going to score their fair share of runs this weekend. I think both offenses will hit well, the bullpens may decide who wins this series and both are good. I think the series is a toss up with it being Tucson, but I think the Beavers find a way to squeak out two wins this weekend.
Three run homer from Conforto in the first. Pretty good start. 3-0 Beavers
stream working for anyone?
Mine isn’t.
It is for me
yeah i’m getting a livestream is off air message.
Not working here

3-0 Beavers after a 1/2 inning
Is there a large contingency of OSU alumni in Arizona? Sounds like there is a lot of us at the game…
3-0 Beavers after an inning
Don’t like the safety squeeze play there, let Gordon swing away, him hitting into a DP isn’t likely, don’t let Arizona be able to escape the inning
And it backfires as expected. Chance to go up 4-5 runs and the safety squeeze basically put an end to that. 3-0 Beavers after 1 1/2 innings
Seems like they’ve had alot of runners thrown out at the plate already this year.
Comcast sucks
Water is wet
Not when it freezes.
Strange play, Arizona runner steals and neither Smith or Peterson cover the base. Got to communicate better.
Then a Smith error. Could be a big inning for Arizona
bad error their, by Smith.
Those tend to happen. He had to charge in and got a bad hop, happens sometimes on these infields.
Arizona bunts and gives the Beavers a free out and it doesn’t get the runner across. I’ll take it.
Beavers gift wrap a run to Arizona as the pitch gets by Rodriguez.
there we go Boyd, huge K there.
That hop off the infield on Conforto’s infield single was enormous.
Back-to-back singles by the Beavers to start the inning. Konner Wade isn’t gonna be around much longer.
Runners on 2nd and third and 1 out for Keyes. A single here would be huge
Any other links?
http://pac-12.com/live/arizonawildcats2.aspx
this one is working for me
Thanks. That did the trick.
I tried the link angry posted and it didn’t work, what worked for me was just going to pac-12.com and searching for the game that way and it is working fine.
same
RBI single by Keyes, 4-1 Beavers
Nice to see Keyes pull a ball with some authority. Slowly starting to see Keyes be the guy we all saw 2 years ago. He’s had good at-bats all season, now starting to hit the ball hard and I like his approach at the plate.
RBI groundout by Jake Rodriguez and it’s 5-1
5-1 Beavers after 2 1/2 innings
Boyd walks a man and allows an RBI double 5-2 now. Boyd is starting to fall behind guys way too much and paying for it.
They have some really annoying sounds in that park.
Nice
5-2 Beavers after 3 innings
1 out single for Tyler Smith for Michael Conforto. I like OSU’s chances to score again this inning
Awful at-bat from Dylan Davis as he strikes out
Blown opportunity to extend the lead. 5-2 Beavers after 3 1/2 innings
Luck O the Beavs
crappy camera angle.
The box with the score, outs, etc is nice.
5-2 Beavers after 4 innings. Got to add on to this lead though.
Keyes crushes a ball into the gap for a leadoff double.
Get some!
Infield single by Jansen makes it 6-2, looked like he was out though.
Agree
6-2 Beavers after 4 1/2 innings
Nice hitting
Nice to get into the AZ pen, surprised Wade was’t pulled earlier.
Arizona’s coach Andy Lopez has a tendency to stick with his starters way too long
Like MR and QB’s
another blown opportunity to tack on some more runs.
Wow I’m loving the Pac 12 network site’s stream. Very nice quality feed.
As Beavgopher said, the little scoreboard is nice too. However, it would be nice to see some replays as are shown on the Beavs feeds.
Idea for the logo. Create a badge in the shape of a shield. Make the background tartan. Put a Beaver on it. Use the badge small, medium and large in different combos for all sports and blow it up for tee shirts. Cut back on the assorted stripes, two tone facemasks and other gimmicks. I
7 innings and 1 earned run allowed on 2 hits by Boyd. Another really good outing from him. 6-2 Beavers after 7 innings
Conforto almost gets another ball out and Tyler Smith with very bad baserunning gets doubled off first
I really thought it was gone.
Hi Corbett is a monster ball park, pretty remarkable that Conforto got a ball out to left center field, won’t see many home runs in this park.
13 hits to 2 is rather substantial.
Who is pitching?
Brandon Jackson
Not a fan of the pitchout in that situation.
6-2 Beavers after 8 innings
Beavers win 6-2 and are now 17-1 this season
I’ll take it! Nearly a complete game, pitching and hitting really came through tonight. Defense and base running provided some “teachable moments”.
GO BEAVS………….6-2 alright!
UNC loses their first, 4-1 to Miami at home. Florida State loses to Maryland, 5-3. UCLA and dawgs suspended due to fog.
Good V! Tomorrow I agree with Angry is a toss up as Wetzler is pitching, hopefully we pull that out and clinch the series.
Wetzler’s slow starts are a real concern, coupled with the “pitch count” thing; its a good thing Casey didn’t need to use much bullpen tonight.
BTW, seems like the pitch count for Wetzler should be in the 70’s or so now that he has a couple starts behind him.
Nice to see the bats coming alive tonight, it could take 6 or more to win tomorrow.
Nice win.
OT:
New OSU Basketball Court:
http://beaverbyte.com
Tartan baselines or save that for the football field endzones?
I like that design. I wish we had a team playing on the court that was worth watching though.
I also like the idea of the tartan print in the endzones of the football field. That would be a cool and unique look as I can’t think of anybody else off the top of my head that uses that on their field.
I don’t like it. The black key with the orange semi-circle looks like a giant penis ready to give the Beaver a money shot. Did Nike design this?
If the end of your dick is bright orange Blazer, may I suggest you seek immediate medical attention.
The ladies don’t mind because it’s more lollipop like that way.
Beaverbyte, maybe you should finish the court mock-up by putting a pearl necklace around the Beaver’s neck? Just an idea.
Cheetos and porn, Broseph.
I hope Casey is smart with the lineup tonight and keeps Keyes at third and Casper on the bench!
Told you guys Casper stinks.
NOOOO!!!
Casper needs to get his weekly hit.
espn. chicago article has CR as someone Northwestern should look at. If there is a god in heaven, please make this happen
http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/colleges/post/_/id/9053/potential-northwestern-coaching-candidates
Not sure the article is actually saying CR is someone they SHOULD look at.
BTW, did you see the qualifications of some of the others on the list? Amaker and Drew, in particular, seem head and shoulders above CR.
uhhh yeah. Almost all on that list are an upgrade over CR
True, I was only focusing on head coaches with a significant record.
I read it as a little bit of a slam on CR as in maybe a couple of years ago he would have received a look. Otherwise, the author was just filling space with names. Isn’t there something with Northwestern and not making it to The Dance in the last 50 years (or maybe it’s never)?
IIRC they have never made it to the ncaa tournament
Faith is seeing truth and denying it because you don’t like the truth.
I agree Jack, but I may take that statement a step further; Faith is avoiding looking for the truth or accepting it if presented because you’re afraid of what you might find.
I know this is digressing from the original statement of CR and NW but you’re statement caught my eye.
It does digress. But I only made the statement in the face of the digression itself.
There is no god, and there is no heaven. I have only questioned the thoughts of the poster from there.
Bad throw by Jake, Arizona is a base hit away from taking the lead now
nope. Moore got out of it. 0-0 after 1
Moore gets out of it though. Scoreless after an inning
Wow, JRod with a bouncing throw to second fails to cut down the stealing runner. 2 out runner at second.
Ground out then ends the 1st, 0-0
on a pitch out none the less
Farris breezing through the first 2 innings. Scoreless after 1 1/2
Already two mistakes by the Beavers defense tonight. Not a good start.
Ball gets past Jake and Arizona has a runner on third with 1 out.
A “Cole Brocker like” curve is too much for JRod to handle, WP and runner at 3b with one out.
Big issue the last year+ with Jake is he doesn’t get low enough when blocking pitches. Thus pitches go right between his legs a little too often. Something he’ll have to improve.
he is still light years ahead of Espisito behind the plate.
Aside from Andy Peterson’s fly ball to left, the Beavers aren’t getting good swings on Farris just yet. Scoreless after 2 1/2 innings
Another pitch gets by Jake and Arizona again has a runner on third with 1 out. That one looked like it was on Moore
I thought it was on Moore also, but just announced by Jay R. that it is scored PB.
Sac fly, 1-0 Arizona
Final out in b3, a TWO handed catch by Peterson. 1-0 Cats.
Infield single by Gordon to leadoff the 4th. Got to get him in.
And….the stream goes bad just as Gordon gets an infield single. Same for everyone??
A hit and run here would be ideal
Tyler Smith rarely chases bad pitches and he swung at a pitch way out of the zone. Not like him. 1 down and a runner on for Conforto
This stream blows!
Yup, and to top it off there don’t seem to be any replays to let ya see what you may have missed the first time around.
A lot of Beavers have had some really bad at-bats tonight. Farris is pitching extremely well.
Johnny Field robs Dylan Davis of a double and likely an RBI. 1-0 Arizona after 3 1/2 innings
I ain’t even mad. That was an amazing catch.
DP to end the 4th, hopefully that changes momentum.
Cats pitcher throwing very well, lots of pick off attempts though. Wishful thinking that he tires.
Hayes leadoff single, lets see some mo
Keyes a single, runners at 1 and 3, mo
A fly ball will do here from Jake. Anything but a strikeout or pop out
He does just that with a sac fly. Tied at 1
sac fly, tie
Zona sure is preoccupied with our runners.
Keyes, not really a big threat to steal, takes second. Looked like an accurate throw would have gotten him.
Joey follows with a walk, so runners at 1 and 2 with one out for Peterson.
2nd time through the lineup the Beavers are starting to hit Farris harder and getting good swings on him consistently
Keyes swipes a bag, a good throw and he’s out.
That is the problem with so many moves over to first. Runner knows exactly what it looks like when he is coming over.
Walk by Jansen and a couple runners on with 1 out for Peterson. Big at-bat, if Peterson can get this in the gap, could end up being a really big inning
Beavers ground out and runners move up to 2nd and third with 2 outs. Beavers got fortunate there, could have been a DP if 2nd baseman comes up with it cleanly. Big 2 out at-bat from Gordon here
Worst part about the camera angle is it’s hard to tell if the home plate ump misses calls on some pitches, but that last pitch appeared it may have been high.
Either way he has to protect there and at least make an attempt at anything close.
Max Gordon doesn’t belong in this lineup.
4th best on base percentage among the regulars. Don’t have too much of an issue with him in the lineup
Yeah his OBP is like .430
He should probably bat 9th tho since his BA stinks.
Ok maybe I was a little harsh. He is not an offensive threat, he is trying to draw walks and can get on with the occasional slap into the hole.
Gordon makes it easy on Farris, two fouls and looks at a too close strike for the K, so much for the mo. But, I do believe, Farris is beginning to tire……missed a few high and puffing a bit as he headed for the dugout.
doesn’t seem like Gordon is very good offensively
Andrew Moore takes an infield single and allows the runner to get to 2nd thanks to a bad throw to first.
All the defensive mistakes are catching up to the Beavers. 2-1 Arizona and have a runner on third with 1 out
3-1 Arizona. Not looking good for the Beavers
Beavs have had some pretty good 6th innings this year, time for another. Lets see if Farris begins to show fatigue.
Leadoff single by Tyler Smith and Conforto is up. Time to rally.
Two pitches, two singles. Runners at 1 and 3 for Dylan
looking better. 1st and 3rd, no outs
Dylan Davis doubles and just like that we’re tied @ 3. Still no outs
Davis is really solid this year. Nice protection for Conforto.
there we go!
Two run double by Dylan Davis and it’s tied at 3. Things turned out fast.
Around fast*
Davis on second pitch clears the bases with a double. 3-3 tie, no outs.
PB, Davis to third, mo swingin back beavs way
Dylan Davis gets aggressive on the bases and forces the catcher to make a perfect throw to get him and he can’t. On third with no outs
Runners on the corners here for Jake Rodriguez. Wouldn’t surprise me to see them send Keyes to keep from hitting into a DP here
Shallow fly ball to centerfield scores Davis and heads up baserunning by Keyes to get to 2nd. 4-3 Beavers
As said, Keyes always seems to keep focused on the game.
Another SacFly for JRod. Not too deep but it did the job with Davis coming in to make it 4-3
extremely shallow-stupid cut by the 1B
Conforto has been spectacular again this season and Dylan Davis has been great as has Tyler Smith, but Kavin Keyes’ performance this year might be my favorite. Swinging it well, has a great approach at the plate, not chasing pitches, he might be running the bases better than anyone, playing great defense. He’s such a smart player and it really shows this season. Nice to see him bounce back this year and play to what he’s capable of.
Lopez extends his streak, waits too long to pull the starter. Now Beavs need to jump on Crawford and bring Keyes in.
Andrew Moore getting through 6 would be ideal. Then you can bring in Schultz, Bryant and Engelbrekt and close this one out.
Tricky camera work, I thought that fly ball was in the gap the way they were following the right fielder.
Yesterday the camera guy was fooled two or three times just like that.
Not sure how much longer OSU can stick with Moore. Doesn’t have a lot left
Looked like the lefties had him timed. Was that a change up that he struck out the first batter on? That was a nice pitch.
Engelbrekt with a huge strikeout. 4-3 Beavers after 6 innings
Those breaking balls were wicked.
Max kills lefties, often will see lefties take awful swings on him, his breaking pitches are incredible.
Max E. had ’em fooled, a 4 pitch K. Capped off by a half-hearted swing.
On to the 7th
I admit, I don’t watch a ton of baseball, so maybe this is normal and I just don’t realize it, but why the hell was there an official standing in the infield while the Beavs were just pitching? Seems like he’s asking to have his head taken off, or at the very least, interfere with the game.
Standard position for the 2nd base umpire. Rarely see them get hit but it’s where they have to stand.
I guess it’s just the camera angle, I don’t know why I’ve never noticed that before.
Peterson was robbed!
Max gets hit a ton but gets on base!
Any truth to the rumor that he went to several Horton camps to learn?
Actually, this year that was just the second HBP for Max.
Smith looks at strike three, looked outside to me!
2 down, Conforto up with Gordon on first.
way outside
Defense still a work in progress
Cole Brocker in this spot? Interesting.
Interesting, Scary, and Successful…..this time.
On to the 8th gonna be hard to make a one run lead hold
Hayes a one out walk, we’d all breath easier if he could be brought home.
I’m betting we see two more pitchers for the Beavs, no need to hold back with no mid-week game coming up.
Grinding,grinding, a quite confidence.
Infield single by Keyes and runners are now on first and second with 1 out. Need to get at least one run in this spot
Keyes almost got that one past the ss, still made an infield single. One out, runners at 1 and 2, really would be big to bring in at least one.
With all the throws over to first by the AZ pitchers (both tonight and yesterday) they really haven’t shown anything better than average moves, certainly not what one would call outstanding. Hope I haven’t put the hex on!!
Really bad at-bat from Jake Rodriguez. Last thing OSU needed was a strikeout, got to get that runner in and he didn’t get the job done
Gotta give AZ pitcher some credit there. Then Hendrix in a tough spot for a walk-on with so few AB’s.
Pitcher used Jake’s overaggressive against him. Got Jake to chase pitches up out of the zone.
Overaggressiveness.
Huge blown opportunity, could come back to haunt the Beavers
Tony Bryant is in. 4 outs to go, got to close out this win.
1 down
Brandon Jackson coming in for Tony Bryant with one out in the 9th
shultz
corrected below. My bad
Yeskie’s pitching decisions tonight have been a bit odd. Brocker comes in, then Bryant for 2 batters and now Schultz. I don’t see much reason to take out Bryant in this spot, throwing well and he hasn’t thrown many pitches.
What just happened with the pitching change?
I’d like an explanation as well. Schultz with a K, 2 down
OK. I just looked it up and it is a rule change this year. “…When a pitcher starts an inning he shall pitch to the first batter until such batter is put out or reaches base unless a pinch hitter is used or the batter or pitcher injures himself.”
Since that was the first batter of the inning Bryant had to finish the at bat.
thanks. Did not realize this was a new rule
correction. Scott Schultz not Brandon Jackson. They attempted to bring in Jackson with a 2-0 count to the first hitter but the umpires would not let them. Not sure why.
BIG K for Schultz!! One out to go.
HUGE K for Schultz, game over!
Beavers win 4-3 to take the series and go for the sweep tomorrow. Now 18-1 on the season
Yeah baby! A series win AT Arizona is big ANY year! Nice work by the Pen to close this one out!
OT – Some of my tribe made it to the Corvallis Boys/Girls event held by OSU FB today. All players encountered were excellent ambassadors for the Beavs.
nother K! Beavs win 4-3. 18-1 and 2-0. Let’s get the sweep tomorrow!
Beavs win. #Great night to be a rodent.
If anyone hears Casey comment on the umps decision to not let Schultz come in with two balls on the first batter in the ninth please share the quote/link here. We’d all like an explanation of the ruling.
Thanks.
GO BEAVS, bring the brooms!
it is a rule change this year. “…When a pitcher starts an inning he shall pitch to the first batter until such batter is put out or reaches base unless a pinch hitter is used or the batter or pitcher injures himself.”
Since that was the first batter of the inning Bryant had to finish the at bat.
Thanks, I assumed since Casey didn’t seem to object that something made it a legitimate decision.
Ucks beat the mighty condoms, helped by 6 errors and just one HBP.
Go Beavs!
Probable Starters: OSU LHP Ben Wetzler (0-0, 2.70) vs. ARIZ LHP Cody Moffett (2-0, 2.00)
12pm start.
Don’t like this matchup for Wetzler fwiw.
Well, the first inning didn’t turn out so bad
Are you kidding me, Peterson leading off and Casper at third. Where is Keyes?
RBI triple for Casper. I think Pat made an okay call there to start Casper.
Tyler Smith killed a chance at a big inning by hitting into a DP. With the leadoff man on for Tyler Smith, doesn’t seem like he’s particularly good in those spots. May want to start bunting to put a runner in scoring position for Conforto.
I don’t disagree with you but if you leave first open with Conforto up most teams will pitch around him.
They will, but then you got runners on first and second and 1 out for Dylan Davis who has performed extremely well this season. Opens the door for a very big inning if teams decide to pitch around Conforto.
Conforto did hit that home run, was a bit confusing for a second, 1-0 Beavers, had a chance to be an even bigger inning though.
Was that his weekly hit?
Does anyone know why there’s no telecasters for this series?
How it normally is for UA broadcasts
2-0 Beavers after an inning and a half. Had a man on third with 1 out and probably should have gotten a 2nd run in the 2nd inning. Can’t blow chances like that. Surprised Casey didn’t try to squeeze Casper home.
Wetzler in a world of trouble.
Bags full 0 out.
Wetzler needs a double play badly
Joey Matthews doesn’t execute with a man on third and one out in the top of the inning, then throws a ball to third with runners tagging which allows the runner from first to move up to 2nd. Bad baseball.
was that an intentional walk to make the force?
No, wouldn’t do it with 2 outs, that’s just Wetzler not able to throw a strike
not looking good then
Classic Ben Wetzler. Easy inning followed up by an inning where he can’t throw a strike.
well done beavs, you dodged a bullet
Wetzler gets in and out of a jam mostly created by the Beavs (walks and poor decisions) with only giving up one run.
Another bad AB by Smith.
Unintentional intentional walk to Conforto. Time for Dylan Davis to make them pay.
Dylan Davis for whatever reason always seems to swing at the first pitch with runners on base.
Davis chokes…non productive out.
rough inning, they have to get one run there…
I know Davis is having a great year and Casey probably doesn’t want to hit lefties b2b, but I would probably prefer Hayes hitting 4th and Davis 5th. Although Hayes flied out there, I just like his approach with men on base more. Dylan is way too aggressive with men on base. He starts swinging at everything and gets himself out. Came through last night but just not sure his approach is best to hit right behind Conforto when Michael gets walked. Hayes has pop, so it’s not like you’re missing the pop if Hayes moves into the cleanup spot
that guy took a good bean there, that will not feel good
It’s apparent Pat Casey was not happy with Esposito as he took him out and put Jake in as catcher
this is the new tactic of getting behind in the pitch count…
Wetzler is getting squeezed by the ump
Wetzler is asking for a big inning from Arizona. 3 walks already today
2-1 Beavers after 3 innings. I hope they have Painton getting warmed up. If Wetzler struggles again in the 4th, I’d pull him and put in Painton.
Barnes is on to start the 4th, got to get him in.
Jake Rodriguez with a huge RBI double with 2 outs. 3-1 Beavers
I’m glad it was JR in the box rather than Esposito.
That’s what she said.
I’m getting you this shirt for your birthday or Christmas or both…
http://www.2bhip.com/product/TS757/The-Office-TV-Thats-What-She-Said-Michael-T-Shirt-Tee.html?meta=GAW&metacpg=TS757&gclid=CInT24DMhLYCFQxxQgodxGYA-Q
I have never watched one minute of that. Picked up from a high school buddy many moons ago.
that’s what she said.
Score?
Beavs 3-6-0 Cats 1-2-0
I blinked and the inning was over. Wetzler heating up?
Maybe. You never really know what you will get from him the following inning. One inning he looks like he’s in a good groove, next inning he walks 3 guys
cats go in order for the first time and Wetzler gets his first K of the game against 3 BB and 1 HBP
2nd time, did it in the first inning as well
You’re right it seemed like forever though.
Look like Childs in there
Wetzler falls an out short of being in line for the win cause he walked the man. Dan Child is in.
looks like Childs in there
Wetzler steps aside for Childs having pitched around 80 pitches. Being pulled as much for pitch count as for the game situation. IMHO.
If not for the pitch count, he would have been allowed to finish the inning
Leadoff double from Danny Hayes, got to bring him home and pad the lead
Sixth inning, a charm for the Beavs this season, no outs runners at 1 and 2.
Lopez making a pitching change.
They should pinch hit Keyes here to sac or move up the runnners
Perfect bunt by Gordon
Max Gordon lays down the bunt and Arizona throws it away. 4-1 Beavers and runners on 2nd and third and no outs.
Luck o the Beavs, AZ third baseman double clutches and throws away the attempted sac by Gordon. Runners at 2 and 3, Keyes coming up aa PH.
What happens when you execute. Teams eventually will make a mistake and the Beavers capitalized and could hang a big number this inning.
HUGE ab here for Jake. Time to blow the game open
And he delivers again! Three run double and it’s 7-1 and still no outs
Great base running by Keyes. He read that perfectly off the bat.
I think Keyes is the best baserunner on the team. Not real fast but very smart, rarely see him ever make a blunder on the basepaths.
A day to forget for Smith.
Man, Tyler Smith has been bad today. Extremely poor execution with runners on base.
WYF that 2-0 pitch was right down the center
Something that has to drive Yeskie and Casey nuts is Child has a 6 run lead and walks the leadoff man on 4 pitches
JRod just keeps on playing the game. Cuts down the runner with a throw which was not entirely on target. One out none on now for AZ.
Conforto fails to pick up the ball 2 different times, if he picks it up cleanly and the runner tries to go to third he’s probably out.
That may be the first triple given up by the Beavs this year. Conforto had trouble picking up the ball, otherwise it would have been very close at third.
EDIT: turns out that was the third triple given up this season.
Arizona had a triple last night.
7-2 Beavers, Arizona now has runners first and third with 1 out
Big DP by Jackson to keep the score 7-2. 9 outs away from a sweep
USC beats Oregon 5-3. If scores hold in Cal-Utah, UW-UCLA and OSU-UA, OSU, UCLA and Cal will all be tied atop first
Arizona goes deep and it’s now 7-3
Brandon Jackson starting to get hit hard, this might be his last batter
Or not. Max Engelbrekt is in
Looked Max was getting squeezed, forced him into a 3-1 count and had to throw one over the plate and it’s an RBI single. 7-4
Beavers finally get that elusive third out in the 7th. 7-4 Beavers after 7 innings
Gordon at 3rd with 1 out, need a fly ball from JRod to get an important run to up the lead to 4.
Easy as that! JRod another RBI, 8-4 Beavs
Max E. not controlling the LHB’s like he did last night, time for a change.
Really the first time all year the bullpen has struggled with their command like they have today. Probably got to get Schultz in there to put this game away.
Schultz is in with 2 outs and runners on the corners for Arizona in the 8th.
Rlley Moore is really due, but after several foul balls finally flies out, 2 down with runners on 1 and 3, need to get out of this inning with at least a 3 run lead.
Allright, Schultz gets a 5-3 third out, on to the ninth.
3 outs to go and (for now) a 4 run lead, I like the Beavs chances.
Not exactly been Tyler Smith’s day
Stream skipped here right at the 3rd strike, again, no replays.
pitch was inside
No surprise, thanks.
Michael Conforto 1 out single
Davis and Smith combined, 0-10 and 4 SO.
Schultz a K for that all important first out.
Beavers win 8-4 and sweep the series! Beavers now 19-1 on the season
I am so glad it is baseball season.
No kidding. In fact, I’m glad it’s baseball season in 2013 and not in 2002… where we would all be whining about how shitty a coach Casey is and how piss poor Barnhart must be as an AD to allow such a pathetic coaching performance.
Amazing. I wonder if they can jump to #1.
Haven’t checked what NC Vandy or LSU have done this weekend.
UNC and Vandy won their series with Vandy sweeping. The Beavers should stay #3 in Baseball America’s rankings. I think they’ll be #1 at some point this season though.
Really? Seems they should jump to #2 in that case. In BA, Vandy should jump to #1. Beavs should jump NC since NC lost a game and Beavs swept a ranked team on the road. I’m thinking Vandy, Beavs, NC.
Not sure how USA Today will play out. They should jump at least 1 spot, but those SEC schools get leeway.
And is not just SEC, #5 Florida State hardly plays outside of Florida, seems to lose some every time they do.
FSU and the Gators rarely play nonconference games outside of the state of Florida. They pad wins early in the season and do alright in conference play. Allows them to be able play regionals and super regionals at home. ACC and SEC have been doing that for years and have no reason to really change that.
remember we dropped a game to USF mid week. I think we stay at No. 3 as well.
Vanderbilt sweeps Auburn. LSU goes 2-1 against #13 Mississippi St.
Kendall Rogers coming to Corvallis for the ASU series per twitter:
Absolutely can’t wait to see #OSU next weekend up in Corvallis. That club is playing an excellent brand of baseball right now. #Pac12
And:

Now that is loud. RT @d1baseball: No. 4 Oregon State defeats No. 21 Arizona 8-4, sweeps series
Great game by Jake. The bullpen showed they are human, giving up a few runs. The defense is still a slight concern, but they do make their share of plays some don’t make. The pitching is very deep, what a luxury to decide between Engelberkt, Brocker, and Bryant. What I like the most is a quiet confidence and business like approach the team has. Very focused. Can’t wait for next weekend!
Some swear that if you look up “very focused” you’ll see Pat Casey’s pic!

Gill gets a cameo in the ESPN 30 for 30 about ’83 NC State and Jimmy V.
Great show. Golden age for college hoops.
Golden age for OSU that NCAAs came here! (wiping tears)
Yes that to. The time of three and four year college players who are now in the NBA hall of fame.
Quality of the play was much better.
I actually did cry watching that last night at the part where Valvano gave his last public appearance at NC St at the 10th anniversary of the title team. Glad to see that the Jimmy V Foundation has been so successful!!
Moved up to 2 in CBN. A
Moved up to 2 in CBN. RPI is in top 6. #1 in the warren nolan index.
I don’t care about rankings right now. It’s standings season.
3-0 with a sweep of the national champs at their house is a decent start.
A bird in the tree is worth soup in the pot… on Tuesday.

The excitement continues to build here at Casa de Bonehead. Will we make it into the CBI??? Being on the bubble is too much to take! The phone is ringing off the hook with old friends asking me to use my connection to score them the easy to get tickets.
Just think of how good it would be for the program to play in the post-season; extra practice time, enhanced reputation for recruiting and maybe even a shiny CBI Championship trophy! Just imagine where we would be in five years!
OH wait….we bought up all that crap back in 2009 and look what happened. Never mind. Batter up. JB
Damn… no CBI! We got screwed. Maybe we can host our own tournament. I’m getting out of Dodge until basketball season is over. So disappointed. JB
I think we keep #2 in the CBN and move up to #3 in the Coaches’ poll with LSU’s loss. We go from 1/1 in the RPI/NPI indeces to 5/1 this week while Vandy goes from 8/8 to 1/4.
Totally worthless fantasy extrapolation:
If we continue to win 15 then drop one, then we lose the first game in the Utah series, the last game against Stanford, and the second game in the final series of the CWS… for a national title and a 61-4 record. It all depends on if and when the UP game is rescheduled. We might lose to them on April 10 then the Saturday game against Stanford and the first in the CWS finals for a 62-4 record.
I think I’d take the second fantasy first.
Oh… and if you’re asking who we beat in the CWS finals for this fantasy hypothetical, who else would we play?
North Carolina will love seeing our shiny faces for a best of three to end the season.
Portland game has been rescheduled for April 17th
Baseball America poll unchanged for the top 12 spots. Ucks move up from 16 to 13 on the strength of a couple wins over the mighty condoms. Aided, I’d add, by 6 condom errors in ONE game.

Oh yeah, Mike Parker returns to the broadcast booth Friday (had to throw that in there, for Angry!).
I think Parker is losing it. Listening to some of the BB casts, sounded like he was expecting us to blow it in the second half of games. Yes, we usually do, but he should try to be positive …. at least try.
Then there is Jay Reese, did you hear him getting upset over the slow pace of the AZ pitcher? Thought he might have a stroke!
I still contend Jay does an OK job, working solo and still able to share a few insights. Misspeaks some game facts occasionally but eventually gets it right.
One thing I believe we all agree, Jim Wilson makes listening to either Parker or Jay a lot easier!
Jay is much improved but it still bugs me when, “the pitch to Smith… inside…. strike one!” Is it too much to add “corner”?

Eggers out with a piece on plans/goals for FB spring. Mentions that Peter Ashton “has left the program”. On the academic front, says the only guys who may not qualify are Mattison, and possibly Hungala.
Riley mentioning some no huddle and hurry-up………sign of the End Times??
Riley’s version of the no huddle and hurry up aren’t the same as everyone elses. Hurry up to him means normal game speed. Just like when he tried to have Katz run the option it looked off.
Riley no huddle features players hustling to the line of scrimmage, only to stand there until there are 5 or less seconds left on the shot clock. Might as well spend that time in the huddle rather than standing there giving the D time to read your formation. Its no huddle but not hurry up.
Riley’s lack of attention to detail probably means lots of errors in a no-huddle or hurry up, and him abandoning it nearly as quickly as him running the option.
Players leaving is not a neat deal. Wants to play QB?
At least Riley’s identifying more specific goals than he used to – more faith in the current talent base and depth?
Still waiting on the coaches’ poll, but we remain at #2 in the CBN with the same 494 points. Only UNC changes points from last week in the top five, losing one to drop them to 496. Only MissSt and ASU are dropping while remaining in the top 25.
http://warrennolan.com/baseball/2013/polls/week/6
Does Conforto pull in honors for Pac POW? He was 8 for 19 with 5 runs, 4 RBI and 2 HR. Rodriguez at Cal was 5 for 19 with 3 runs, 9 RBI, and 2 HR. And Wazzu vs. ASU put up some large numbers, though they seemed to be spread out over several players for the week.
Hmmm… Vandy jumps LSU, but not us. Still #4.

Did I read that right? The Nike team won two of three against SC and they go from #14 to #12?
Gotta love pollsters.
had not seen this posted yet. We can dream right?

They had a coach who couldn’t get them to the NCAA’s. Why would they want another one.
Carmody was not a bad coach.
well, they’ve never had a coach that’s been able to get them to the NCAA tournament
I’m not sure getting to the NCAA’s is that important to them, they gave Carmody 13 freakin’ years…..I hope DeCarolis isn’t listening!
No CR mentions at sippinonpurple.com
Maybe the source is the same one that had Riley interviewing with Wisconsin. Let’s start tracking any jets from Chicago to Corvallis.
LOL … I think CR gets another year. But when the Oregonian is calling him on the carpet there must be rumblings. Maybe Obama will find him a cabinet post. Sec of defense, lol.
I’m sure there’s definite rumblings. There has to be when my basketball adverse wife asks “is he going to get fired?”. Me: “He’ll be around next year, but they’ll have to make the tourney, or he’s gone”. Her: “then maybe he should hire some new assistants”. It has to be at full saturation if my wife is saying this.
Ok, Jack etal ….. whats the prognosis for the Pac teams in the NCAA tourney??
None seeded higher than 5 or 6 I think. No respect, but conf seems weak this year. Any likely to fare well? Or just do a quick farewell?
I see only one team from the Pac-12 getting out of the first round
Nikegon kinda got screwed. They match up decently against oSu, but only on the frontcourt. Artis and Loyd are going to have their hands full with Smart. And none of it matters because St. Louis will smoosh whichever team wins. StL is just really talented and on a “win one for the Gipper” kind of tear. And they are big and fast and tough as nails.
UCLA can go to the Final Four or lose their first game. My guess is that Billy Donovan puts Howland out of his misery… yet again… and for the final time as the Bruins’ coach.
Cal has the talent to go to the Sweet 16 against faltering UNLV and Cuse. And they could be world beaters by knocking off Indy. But it’s Monty in the post-season. UNLV rolls unless Monty has a couple seven foot twins hiding under his bench.
Zona could also go far if they could play as a team. But they’re sucking big enough to lose to Belmont. Again, it doesn’t matter. UNM will kill either team in the round of 32 then roll them for loose change.
CU is the intriguing one. They match up well with everyone in their sub-bracket… even Miami. I personally don’t think they make it past the first weekend. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see them playing in the regional final either.
I’m gonna say everyone but Cal wins their first game, then maybe UCLA or CU go to 16, with CU being a Cinderella in that scenario.
Well this just stinks. I think our guys should defer awards to give the rest of the Pac some participation ribbons or something.

P12 network adds 8 Beaver baseball games:
Beaver Baseball ?@Beaver_Baseball 27m The following games are scheduled: Sun vs. ASU, April 9 vs. Oregon, May 4 vs. Cal, May 18 vs. Oregon, May 19 vs. Oregon and May 24-26 vs WSU
Terrible news because I have Directv, but I might just go to a few of these games anyways.
All are still available via live stream. I think they added the games because they see how many people are watching the live streams. A nice way to gauge the market and then adjust.
This P12 network has been great for me. Sucks to be satellite subscriber.
No, they are not. All games on the Pac-12 Network are only available online for people whose cable provider has Pac-12 Network, for the rest of us no video.
There’s a hypothesis about town which states that the Pac 12 sucked in NCAA seeding because everyone on the selection committee had DirecTv.
Apparently this is still a “thing”

Jacks, care to share your bracket selections with us?
Jack…
I’m wild this year. I’ll give you my 16.
I have Loiisville/StL and MichSt/Duke, Zags/KSU and UNM/tOSU, Ku/VCU and GU/UF, and IU/Cuse and Davidson/Miami.
That last sub-bracket is the hardest for me because Miami could win it all, but any of those teams could beat any of those teams. That’s why Davidson is my Cinderella for this year.
Beyond those picks, I would choose Cuse to beat IU, tOSU to beat UNM, KU to beat VCU, G’town to beat UF (maybe), and the other three are toss-ups with the winner of the Tourney coming from one of those match-ups.
Sorry… I wasn’t clear.
The first three on my list are toss-ups Then I pick tOSU, KU, GU, SU and Miami.
Just noticed, ASU appears to be in a dogfight with Texas Tech. T9 and just broke out of a tie, now ASU ahead 7-6. Note: ASU has committed 3 errors in 8 innings.
Looking forward to an exciting weekend at Goss.
@aaronfitt 39s
Arizona State closer Ryan Burr walks four and hits a batter; walk-off walk gives Texas Tech an 8-7 win. Seesaw ballgame.
ouch, that is going to sting.
I’m of two minds on this result. An ASU win would, in a small way, bolster the image of the PAC12, OTOH, this kind of a loss is likely to impact the mental state and team chemistry of ASU.
Right now anything that works in the Beavs favor is fine with me and if they can keep things going the stature of the PAC12 won’t be much of a factor late in the season.
GO BEAVS!….one at a time!
2-3 in their last 5 but one of those wins was against New Mexico and ASU was very lucky to win. If the Beavers jump on them early in game 1 on Friday night, things could turn bad for ASU fast in the series. Facing a confident Beavers team when ASU is struggling with their confidence is a recipe for disaster. I wouldn’t expect this Beavers team to lose any focus, they seem pretty determined and focused and have been that way all season.
Joe Lopez transfers to PSU. Thoughts? He was on the two-deep last year, and I would think we would want all the depth we can get at DT, JC guys notwithstanding.
I think this is more of an indication that the JC guys will qualify and be here. 5 DTs on the roster with 2 JCs coming in for spring. Plus one more in the fall puts DTs at 8 guys. More than enough.
Lopez didn’t do much so his loss won’t be anything really.
Besides, it’s a numbers game as well. Kirkpatrick listed 70 players on scholarship. I’m not sure if Lopez was a scholarship guy, I don’t remember him being one. With 4 guys already enrolled (Harlow, Nelson, Delva and Hautau). They have room for 15 more. Signed 25 minus the 4 already in, leaves 19 guys for 15 spots.
Curious to see who else will leave or hopefully, some guys will just greyshirt. Mattison is a good candidate for that and I think Hungala is a question mark too.
Question for the more knowledgable: do grey shirts still get things like school and living expenses paid for in order to keep them on campus? Mattison does seem like a likely grey shirt candidate but given his personal life story it sounds like he wants to get to Corvallis as soon as he can.
Once they enroll full time, they become full scholarship players. I believe that if they come early, they have to pay their own way and cannot take more than 12 credits. Otherwise their athletic clocks start and he’ll have basically wasted a year.
