      • He just missed a wide open TD with zero pressure on him, all because he got knocked down earlier. He’s typical in that he can’t shake off early pressure. Even thought it’s common, it’s annoying.

          • Well what I saw is a guy who got sacked and rattled early, so then on a play with zero pressure he misses an easy TD because he can’t shake off the past.

I hope to regret these comments later on tonight, trust me.

    • Lol not sure that’s a fair assessment. Our offensive line has been dismantled on just about every play so far. It’s impressive he hasn’t taken more sacks than he has.

  1. Woods needs to take some pointers from Cooks on when it’s appropriate to hesitate on a run play. Cooks seems to pause at the perfect time to let the defenders over pursue. Woods just hit the breaks every time he touches the ball.

  2. So, ideally, take the chip-shot FG to go up 6-0, then punt on the other 4th down and pin Stanford. That would most likely result in a 6-3 halftime lead instead of a 7-3 deficit.

    • It’s a weird time for Riley to go all “Chip Kelly” on us. The announcers were correct in comparing this to an NFL game, of all people Riley should be picking up on that and taking the threes. Stanford is not an offensive juggernaut this season.

  3. That feels like that’ll seal the deal.. The momentum swing is huge and we are playing and coaching really really tight. Lots of chances to separate and we didn’t take advantage.

  4. I don’t think Riley is capable of getting the team fired up the way it would have to be in order to have a chance in the 2nd half.

  5. OSU: when expectations are high we play like our namesake.

This game has been defined. No adjustments at the half. I have a feeling that Stanford is going to start grinding away at us with the running game.

  6. FOX is showing Mannion as being 17/23 for,,,, cough, cough 87 yards. That’s a whopping 5 yards per pass, which is understandable considering how much pressure Stanford was putting on him.

    • Totally understandable. If they even think of taking Mannion out of the Heisman race, I will lose it. I will write the Heisman voters myself if I have to!

  7. Defense has played great, but man if you wrap up the tackle on the TD run it creates some pressure and time challenges and the game may be 3-3. Luck o’ the Beavs.

  8. Boy I don’t know. I’m really afraid of their O making adjustments to our D. But I felt like we really put more offensive pressure that half. We had a lucky forced fumble, but they got away with some 4th down stops. That first half was a very tight game, I think somebody really breaks it apart now.

    • I was watching an NFL show and they were talking about Larry Fitzgerald. Gwachum is basically Fitzgerald but faster and with a much higher vertical leap and better hands. Why won’t Langsdorf just keep him in?

  9. Our TOP is currently 2x theirs (30/15mins).
Without that turnover to start the 2nd half and those awful 4th downs, this could be much more in our favor.

  10. It’s tough to judge Mannion negatively in this game since he has to anticipate being killed on each play. I’ve got to think that’s made him a little hesitant to look deep though.

    • I wish the damn line would do their jobs. Not other peoples jobs or not getting worried about future jobs. Just focus on the God damn job! Mannion is easily the best qb in the country!

  11. At end of forst half and in fourth quarter, Banker rushed 3 on pass downs and it hurt the Beavers. Hogan is not that good under pressure. But he can perform when you do not rush anyone. Actually, at end of first half they rushed two witn noseguard playing spy. the lost opportunities in the first half was a killer.

    • I thought it was one of the keys to the game. Why did Banker randomly dial up a three man rush on 3rd and 14 with a QB who had been extrememly ineffective in the passing game? Why give him that extra time? Put some pressure on him to throw quickly and short. If he beats you with his legs than you have to live with it. I thought it was an odd call at a crucial juncture.

  12. I disagree. Did u even watch this game? Stanford has 6 of 7 starting front on defense as seniors. All would therefore be Harbaughs recruits. Beavs got their asses kicked up front.

      • I still think Mannion had his Heisman moment in this game. If nobody talks much about the loss I think Mannion is definitely NY bound. Just saw where he is everyone’s consensus pick, and most voters will lobby for him to win the Heisman by a landslide.

        • He didn’t gain or lose any ground. Both he and Mariota did nothing special this weekend. But one thing that became clear was that Mannion is essential to his team’s success, and Mariota’s team just needs him to be a game manager.

  13. Beavs painfully wasted away several great opportunities to take this game. Amazing that Mannion survived. He was hit so many times. Now a short week for USC.

    • Yeah right you son of a bitch! Everyone knows Mannion is the better player and will win this trophy. Why dont you actually read what the experts like Lindsay Schnell say before you try talking shit! She works with people and knows these things. You’re just an IDIOT!!!

      • Mannion is the better player. But that has little to do with Heismanology these days. There is now a lot of grumbling about Mariota doing diddly on an East Coast prime time game while Nikegon still rolls along like a machine. Apparently system players who do nothing special are seen as below average. A lot of people out east saw Mariota the game manager and figured that’s all the Ducks are about. Dixon was more important to the team back then more than any QB is now given the overall talent and system in place.

Besides, it looks like it’s Winston’s to lose.

    • Don’t you have to take your chances with Cooks returning kick offs moving forward? He returns punts, so the injury risk is already in play. With the tough back end schedule I think you have to give those extra touches.

Bolden is awful…misses lanes…goes down on initial contact…ball in the wrong arm. He’s not ready yet.

  14. So, the last few moments of the first half and the first of the second half make the difference. D showed up tonight, even though Stanford’s O really has some holes. As everyone knew, the ability or lack thereof to keep Mannion upright was the difference.

And, why in the world can’t Riley call two plays in one huddle and play with urgency when time is a factor???

Still 2 wins left on the sched?

  15. Shit … Shit -shit – shit

But give a hand to the SU defense. Did what needed to be done.

Still, we were competitive with them. With some luck, its ours. Given the way the season started, not bad.

Will we see another defense that good? We can still make a good season out of it….

But I am …. depressed! Damn

    • That has to be the best defense, I hope they stuff the Ducks, but I was not impressed with Hogan. I think the Beavs might have two or three more wins on the schedule if the D can play that well again.

      • Jim Wilson goes farther, just said if the D plays this way for every game then every game is a possible W.
Hard to argue with two or three more W’s, not so sure about runnin’ the table!

        • The 3 and outs really had me excited. I couldn’t figure out what the heck was wrong with the offense. Now in hindsight I see the difference our good tight ends make. But that qb sneak was weak sauce, should’ve gone straight ahead with Tyler Anderson, maybe even rearrange the linemen for that play. I’m surprised that isn’t prearranged and automatic.

          • I’m thinking Riley must think that the Anderson play is too predictable now because he never uses it anymore, but it would have been better than watching Mannion flail around. In his defense, the line was completely collapsed also.

          • I’m puzzled at the lack of carries for Tyler, didn’t seem that way earlier in the year. Sure, he was a receiver a few times tonight, but where were those inside carries which resulted in TD’s and 1st Downs earlier.

A prearranged and automatic play???? From Riley???

          • I think the Andersen short yardage play worked better last year when the Beavs could actually run the ball a little. The defense had to respect the possiblity of Storm getting the ball on third of fourth and short, so the quick hitter to Anderson caught them off just enought to get a yard or two.

          • You couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the offense? Jesus I could see it on the TV at the bar from 150 miles away. Stanford’s 3 and 4 man rushes were consistently beating our 5 on the o-line. Simple math says when you can do that, you can drop back more guys in coverage (that means no open receivers). Occasionally Stanford would load up on one side and blitz a pair of linebackers. Why is it when the beavs could see it coming there was no adjustment and change the play to something quick like a slant or some other quick route? Oh, that’s right because we have Riley and there are no in game adjustments.

        • Wilson is an idiot. Hogan managed the game. His passing sucked ass. Gaffney had 125 yards on 15 carries in the 4th. Run d is a joke and the dicks will expose that and win easily. We will not beat ASU either. Riley and staff continue to hold this team and program back from getting to a bcs bowl game

  16. Turns out it was smoke and mirrors due to a weak schedule. Lastly, dear mike cavanuagh,

Fuck You! You haven’t done shit to earn your paycheck in almost 4 years. Our offensive line and run game has sucked since Jaquizz Rodgers junior year. When Stanford rushes only 3 and sacks your qb, it’s time to re-evaluate. Asshole

    • Yeah what a dickhead Cavanaugh is. Hello? It’s not working! Change it to something that is! It’s so easy to understand and I’m on the internet. I’m getting sick of watching these damn walk ons and 2 star kids getting blown off the damn ball every play. We have the number 1 pick in next year’s draft, ans the god damn golden girls protecting him. I can’t believe more people don’t fight him in the parking lots after games.

  17. I am sick of watching Philipp disappear for entire games. How is he the left tackle. He was a sieve tonight. Just improved tonight by him could be the difference let alone the other numerous coaching errors. Sucks to hand a win to a presumptive top 5 team.

  18. Wow….Defense shows up, Offense take the night off — coupled with Riley being too aggressive. What’s wrong with taking the field-goal points early in the game…? This is where having a running game can win you some games….Riley should have known he was going on 4th down before it happened — OSU offense looked slow on the 4th down plays. Not sure why you would pass on 3rd and short — if you already knew you were going for it on 4th down, then you have 3rd and 4th down to run the fuckin’ ball and get the short yards!!!!

    • When was the last time we’ve been able to complain about Riley being too aggressive?

      Anyone? …Anyone?

Not being able to keep trees out of endzone w/time expiring at end of first half, plus Bolden fumble = 14 tree points right there. Aaaargh

      • But it was an inappropriate aggression. Like he had no feel for the game or no confidence in the defense. You could sense after one quarter that this was not going to be a 35-31 game. Yet he’s going for it with reckless abandon.

And then he reverted to his former self and punted with four minutes left when most coaches in the country would have gone for it and the defense comes up big on the third and short.

    • The pass on 3rd and short when you know you are going to go on 4th makes no sense, never has. Is it possible that Riley doesn’t have any idea of going for it on 4th until the third down play fails? That might explain the slow/confused look of the entire O when setting up for 4th down.

Will we ever see the longest tenured coach in the PAC12 call two run plays on 3rd and short so as to go no huddle if the 3rd down play fails?

  19. Story of the game was sloppy, poor play from tight ends and receivers not named Cooks. Just got back from the game and I think I saw more drops on one game then the entire season up to the point. That and Bolden’s horrendous momentum -killing fumble cost us the game.

Contrary to popular belief I think Mannion played very well under heavy pressure. Don’t know what’s up with Woods but he looks terrible . Great game for Ward. New starter?

I actually think you can chalk this L up to execution. Drops and fumbles were pathetic and embarrassing. Defense stepped up on a big way and most of the offense went to sleep.

  20. I rewatched some of the game, there was more space in the run game then I expected on the few plays that were called. You have to give it a chance when a defensive line is just teeing off. Apparently, draws, shovels and quick slants aren’t in the playbook? No huddle? Didn’t the one fly sweep work ok? It almost seems like Riley has become impatient in his old age …pass every down, go for it on 4th whether it makes sense or not.

    • Goes for it on fourth when it makes no sense but essentially uses the same plays over and over without adjusting. Both sides of the ball. When Stanford got stuffed repeatedly, they brought in extra linemen and ran sweeps with number 98 in motion for leverage on the end. They knew that OSU does not flex or move lbs and would only have to deal with an extra db. OSU had some holes for running. But would they ever consider an extra o lineman, even if their top two tight ends were out? OSU cannot adjust and figure out how to deploy the assets and resources that they have available.

    • Lots of questionable calls. I think they need to be running 15-25 fly sweeps per game. Doesn’t Riley remember that the play has worked against everyone. I actually hear duck fans say constantly that they think we have a more complete running game than they do and wish the ducks ran more fly sweeps. Most D*ick fans are gonna be so angry when we beat them in Autzen stadium.

  21. I got harassed by duck in the parking lot after the upset of Nebraska. Woman comes up to me and says, “I don’t want to be a douche, but go ducks” and flashes the vagaina sign in my face. To her credit, she was a hottie and I was too exuberant to have a sarcastic, smart ass reply.

    • I was watching the Duck/Bruin game (rarely watch the Ducks) and was struck that some of assholes in Autzen don’t even pretend to know or appreciate football. When the game was still on the line that LB Barr made a great play on Mariota and caused a fumble and you could hear boos.

I’m thinking was the eff are these numbnuts booing for? There’s no penalty and the opponent made a great play. You’re precious Heisman candidate got beat by an outstanding effort, now shut up and live with it. God, I hope Stanford beats them again.

  22. Things are right on schedule to secure a bid in the highly coveted AdvoCare 100 Bowl!!

Yea…. losses to SC, ASU and the Ducks and we’re a lock. Start checking airlines now. Shreveport is an easy drive from Dallas. JB

  23. Reasons OSU Loses Big Games:

    1) Inflexible AD. Feel strong that OSU wins this game by 10 in the orange unis. This game mattered. USC next week is now mostly just playing for scraps. The fact that the AD can’t adjust to whatb was the appropriate game to be wearing orange…the biggest and most important games..for a extra boost for the teamm, tells me is just cares about the minimum, safe and boring route and not raising a program to a higher level.

    2) Writers like Schnell who continue to insist that Storm Woods is the man. Some fans have been mentioning for the last several weeks that Ward is as good and actually looks better. Schnell’s status quo also means we are sticking with a runner who needs to show more and attack holes harder rather than Ward or Brown who both have shown more ability to fight for extra yards and keep their legs churning. Ward should start and Woods should be a receiver and backup RB for the screen game. Brown needs to get a few reps so he can contribute all next season with more confidence, not be slowly worked until next year’s halfway mark.

    3) Riley appears to have a mental block when it comes to big games. We all know he will win plenty of games so long as they don’t have that much meaning. If anything related to the BCS or next year’s playoff is on the line though he is batting something like 0 for 12. Not good at all for a supposed top level coach. Being a top level coach means you win closer to half of the big time games, not none at all. He is decent because he will win a bunch of average level games but if you can’t win the big ones when they matter then you are not much above average and can’t get the program to a higher respected national level.

*We have to be rid of BDC by 2016. He is holding OSU back. Another wasted big opportunity and the orange unis have lost most of their meaning for Friday’s game. Boneheaded to not wear them for Stanford. That game would have put us in the driver’s seat for a Rose Bowl with a win and we instead choose to show our bigtime game look against an unranked USC team as we fight for the Holiday Bowl now. Just inexcusable BDC. Please move on.

    • If uniforms won games, we would still be speaking with a British accent and bowing to the queen. Alabama has not changed their costumes in 30 years.

    • you lost all credibility with your second sentence in reason 1. The orange uni’s weren’t going to help the offensive line pass block any better. Ridiculous statement.

    • 1) IMO, if we don’t 86 that SOB BDC ASAP, then we might be SOL. Orange uniforms were obvious but he said no? Why not just cancel the game if you’re not going to give us a chance to wear orange. The time is now to make a change. No AD has been directly responsible for more losses than BDC.

      2) Dude, Schnell makes the personnel decisions because she knows way more about football than you so you seem crazy to question her takes. Storm is from Texas, just like the Rodgers bros. Plus Storm follows Rileys system of unusual named running backs.

      3) Couldn’t have said it better. Riley continuously face plants in every game that matters and even the ones that don’t like Sac St or EWU. It’s hard to imagine why though because most people see him as a Pete Carroll/Nick Saban type. If Riley was in LA he would have 10 championships by now.

  24. Last night’s game was fun to watch. Two teams looked very even and it showed in the stats. I had no problem with Rileys choice to go for it. Driving we talked about not settling for 3, so at the time of thegame it seemed right. Looking back iit’s so easy to take the points. We just failed to take advantage of our opportunities. Not getting points on Scott Crightons fumble and return really hurt us. If we go up 10-0 that games complexion would have been very different. The kickoff return fumble to start the second half was a total loaded bear that we had to drag uphill the whole second half.

Stanford is the better team, their players were big and athletic made our OL look very pedestrian. I didn’t see Isaac or Harlow or Phillip play particularly well, but give them credit they are beasts up front. I liked how Mannion competed. 41 completions against that defense was great. Not only was there defenders in his face all night there were not very many open receivers, it seemed Stanford was very well coached on our schemes, you could tell they spent a lot of time in the film room. Very few times were our guys able to get open, and it hurt to lose Caleb as we lost that athletic big target. Clute just isn’t as good as Hamlett or Smith.

I have said this before I don’t know why they didn’t redshirt Bolden? He doesn’t look that fast too me and he has poor vision. If he is the best we got for returns it shows you how desperate we are for more talented skill players. We keep taking fliers on guys like Corey Lawrence who can’t qualify instead of going out and getting a depends me guy. Bolden has shown he is NOT ready for this level.

Good performance by the defense, set the tone for the whole game. With the exception of another Hogan scramble they controlled their offense. Disappointed that was a game we had every right to win.

    • I’ve never understood why a guy would bother to field a kickoff that lands within a few yards of the emdzone? It going to bounce into the endzone 99% of the time and you get the ball on the 25 yard line. You’re very rarely going to turn that into a better return than 25. Gotta play the percentages in those situations and quit trying to be a hero when we don’t need a hero.

      • Well put.

Anybody watching on tv, how close was Mannion on his sneak on 4th down? I had a poor angle and the replay they showed was from the stinking endzone. I thought it was worth a challenge on the spot?

          • What about the previous 3rd down play, with the Cummings reception? At the game, that looked like a clear 1st down and a terrible spot.

          • I had a bad angle from the stadium, but everyone around me thought the spot was bad by half a yard, and the part of the crowd with the best angle was booing loudly. But Mannion wasn’t close on the 4th down because Stanford seemed to know exactly what was coming
