It just occurred to me that I didn’t check the lines on any of our conference losses… then complain about something.
The line for tonight is OSU -8.5 with an o/u of 151. That translates to about an 80-71 win. I can’t say they’re off by much on what could happen. But USC is so bad this year they need to slow the game down like Wazzu did. 8.5 has to be the best spread we’ve had in a conference game in a while. But it is pretty big. I’d definitely take the under though.
at home. and that’s their only conference win. They took Stanford to OT at home before losing. The rest they’ve been blown out by 19 pts or more. Beavs win tonight
Are these jokers going to lose this game……no P-12 network, so i just checked gametracker (I miss the little jumpy stick men icons) and they’re down 58-53 with about 9 minutes left.
I sometimes accept the lack of money argument when it comes to being a BCS contending team in football, 85 players, coaching salaries getting insane, etc….but I will never be convinced that OSU can’t succeed in basketball if it wanted to.
It takes 1-2 great recruits. It can be done. Need a new coach and vision badly.
Luck of the Beavs fall their way tonight. Beavs 76-75 in OT. In the final seconds SC player drives to the hoop and is fouled, the rebound is put back and would’ve tied the game as the clock expires. Instead it’s 76-74 with two FTs and after making the first one to go 7-7 in the game the second FT is off the back rim. FTs were the story of the game SC 19-21 and the Beavs 20-35.
So let’s just say, for shits and giggles, that OSU goes .500 through the rest of conference play. Looking at their schedule and their recent games, it’s possible.
They would finish 17-13 and could also end up around 5th in the conference. Does that get them into either of the post season tournaments? (Not counting the CIB)
How many teams does the Pac normally send to the NCAA’s and how many wins gets a team in typically? I’m guessing 17 isn’t enough and they’d have to make it through to at least the Pac-12 tourney finals to be considered even.
Those early season non-con losses really will hurt. Makes you wonder what could have been if Moreland and Collier had stayed off the green stuff during the off season.
Curious to hear thoughts on the Ducks since they have invested 100’s of millions of dollars in their basketball program, have a coach everyone here thinks is great, and yet are below OSU so far in Pac-12 play.
Does it make sense to people here that it’s not easy to succeed in sports even when the deck is stacked in your favor?
Of course this sounds apologist, but I do think that this site tend to simplify things into “all we have to do is fire x and we’ll be great!” which I feel is completely wrong. Teams can do poorly even with a coach that is thought to be good, lots of money in infrastructure, and good recruits. Expecting a lot of down-thumbs for this though. :-X
Well, last year was their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2008 and first with Altman. I’m not ignoring it. It isn’t looking like they’ll be making it this year at this point either. All I’m saying is that even with all the pieces it’s hard to do what people think we’ll accomplish just by hiring new coaches (in any sport).
Nikegon has nowhere near all the pieces right now. Where are you getting that lie?
And if you think this site is anywhere near definitive simplification, you’re going to have to source your “I think” material. That sure sounds like you’re setting up a straw man to me.
What was up with Brandt not shooting open looks? Turnovers and free throws nearly killed us. Tired of watching them dribble into traffic and off their leg. You win by 1 in OT with fifteen missed free throws. Oh boy.
that’s my point they have ALOT of flat games. UW was a “flat” game. Cal was a “flat” second half. It just gets old. You play 2 games a week, you should have your team ready for those games every week. I can excuse a “flat” game in every ten games or so, not every other game which seems like it is.
UW was not a flat game. They were flat for a short span in the second half, but UW was allowed LeBron walkability during the crucial part of that half.
Cal was a flat second half. But it wasn’t that bad. Cal made adjustments at the half which allowed them to eke one out. I know it seem like an eke, but Monty knows better than just about anyone ow to manage those situations.
Last night was flat from the start. It could have been that way for many reasons–a hangover from UW, looking ahead to UCLA, etc. But I never got the feeling that the game was out of control for us or that we wouldn’t win. That’s the kind of flat I can handle.
I’ll spin it. If the refs called this game reasonably, and Beavs shoot their FT’s at the normal percentage, they win by 8 to 10, and the game is digested as a “solid win, but too many turnovers”.
The refs were wildly inconsistent last night. The USC guards were carrying the ball like crazy and then they decide to call a carry on Cooke on a hesitation play where he faked out the ref as well as the defender.
Experience and coaching. I thought coming in to OSU, punting was secondary for him, quarterbacking primary.
Riley, in his wisdom, thought it better to teach him how to punt and have his QB experience as a fake-play threat rather than teach Ryan Allen how to throw a 10 – 20 yard pass 4 – 6 times in his career….
IMHO, Hekker’s passing ability never became a serious fake play threat. I don’t think 2 attempts per season caused opponents to spend a lot of time prepping for a Hekker pass. I remember in 2010 and 11 calling for more Hekker passes in situations where they’d be unexpected; I thought just a couple more passes per season would have made a difference.
First of all, the refs were all over the place…nothing called early, then a slew of calls. The “T” was deserved only by SC as a team chirping at the refs. I watch games played at Gill and wonder how refs swallow the whistle for the home team. If this was at pOUr, SC would had three guys foul out in the first half.
Half empty: Beavs couldn’t make cripples, turned the ball over way too many times, foul shooting should have cost them the game. didn’t like the Roberto ISO at end of reg.
Half Full: Won the game despite the above, played hard and created TO’s, seem like a team united.
Gambling note: no action on the game, but decades of gambling experience had me laughing at the end. If you played the over…after regulation, the total is 144, all you needed was 7 points in OT. well, you hit the over with ONE second left…crazy.
Once again the refs were calling everything traveling against us. A couple were not travels also. But they missed about four or five really obvious calls against USC until they called the one at the end. And I just don’t like that refs eat the whistle on contact in the end. They say they don’t want to affect the outcome of the game, but that’s precisely what they’re doing.
I also liked that Cooke, LMW and Duvivier were getting chirped at hard by Howard and Wesley, and they didn’t let them in their heads. In fact, they shut those two down at the end of the game.
The refs are not good, but they are consistently not good. I didn’t see anything that was not going one way or the other. We got some calls and they got some calls. We shot 35 free throws they shot 20. Refs are not going to reward players who look like their are out of control or have shown they don’t have good enough ball skills to give them a benefit of the doubt on a close play.
Watch the game again and see the disparity on travel calls. USC had about four non-calls that were worse than te one that was finally called, and we had two that were not travels at all.
The argument for or against tis disparity goes to coaching. They talk to the refs before and during the game, and they tell them what they think they want to see from the refs. So there is some blame to be handed to the coach in this context. But the disparity between what they called for USC in the end and what they ignored earlier should be disconcerting, let alone the disparity of calls for or against both teams.
The refs were completely incompetent last night, they were awful for both teams. Wildly inconsistent and overreacting after the technical foul. If you watch the possessions immediately after the tech they were blowing the whistle prior to any contact anticipating a foul. It was just plain awful officiating.
Where did we get the info that Lealao was visiting us this weekend? That “source” was very very poor, bordering on lying. He’s in Nashville tis weekend.
I didn’t post that but scout has him visiting us this weekend (still does http://oregonstate.scout.com/a.z?s=182&p=8&c=1&nid=6557878) . He must have either changed his mind, or I’ve seen them posting a lot of the big recruits are doing mid-week visits. Potentially he’ll still be in Corvallis Saturday?
And I am not sold at all on Delp, especially as an Olineman. He’s just terrible there. At least as a DT he looks like he has a purpose. But his technique is just terrible. His pad level is extremely high, and he uses his legs about … umm… never.
This speaks more than anything to buying “access” “provided” by pay sites.
We started the month arguing whether or not these sites were genuine in selling our chances with players we knew we would never get. We knew that, but suckers bought in. Apparently we were sold the Laelao lie as late as this week, and I’m betting some suckers bought in.
If you’re paying for recruiting news, you’re a sucker. I don’t know why thos isn’t obvious eo even the most dense person out there.
Why don’t you put together a site that does what Blitz and Scout do? Feed Twitter and Eggers on it. Put some ads and make some $. Whatever. But stop bitching every post about something no one but you and AB care about.
Why would I provide a service anyone with half a brain can do on their own if they’re so inclined? I would feel dirty stealing money from poor schmucks too lazy to use the google machine.
What, precisely, am I supposed to let go? It might not be fair to lump Scout, 247 and ESPN in with Blitz. But Blitz has a history with this site. And it’s an ugly one. They go well beyond trolling, or have in the past. And they need to be suppressed at the earliest point of their malevolent infections here. If that isn’t done, then you too could have Jeff Perry stalk you and pretend to be you here, spewing pedo ideas from his foul mind while pretending to be you.
So maybe I’m a little biased against those ne’er-do-well grifters. Maybe they deserve all the bad pub they get from me for a reason. They’ve proven to be scum for years, and giving money to them is as abhorrent an idea as I can muster.
Eggers has a nice write-up about Roberto Nelson. All of which makes me believe CR should be a counselor, or an academic adviser, or run a group home – but not coach basketball.
Gundy, Brennan and Brasfield in Austin to visit Guyton. Hopefully it’s enough to fend off the scavengers. One of the best 3-4 HS commits in the class. Possibly the best.
I saw Stevie Ray, the Fab T-birds and the Who on Labor Day weekend in 1989. Joe Ely, Jerry Jeff Walker and the O’Jays were outside before the doors opened. I got to meet Stevie and Jimmie before some live shots outside… the usual, “I love your stuff man,” kind of fan meet. Andre the Giant and the Ultimate Warrior “wrestled” in the Arena, and Miller Lite was free all afternoon and evening.
I was 20, and it was hot as hell outside. Besides, my beer palate at that time depended on my wallet. Schaefer Lite and Shiner Bock were the norm. Miller Lite was a step up.
Hopefully the Beavs can steal two back to back and kick UCLA’s ass. If they get the sweep, then we should sign head coach Craig Robinson to a “lifetime” auto-renewing contract so long as the team finishes with more than 4 conference wins in any 365 day span.

Jack, try setting a limit, and sticking to it. I don’t know, make it easy to start, say no more than 25 comments on the next post? Secondly, make it a point to get out and get some fresh air every now and then. Try to spend at least 25 minutes per day doing something else. Go clean out a few of your litter boxes or something. Take a break. No one will miss you.
If we don’t handle them, all is lost.
Winnable
I am fully expecting a win this evening
It just occurred to me that I didn’t check the lines on any of our conference losses… then complain about something.

The key with this team might be to play the first half line of -5….
Just checked the lines at my book–team totals 79.5 and 71…total 150.5
First Half OSU-4 with o/u of 71
I like the Beavs winning but not covering.
This team beat Cal, Beavs lose for sure.
at home. and that’s their only conference win. They took Stanford to OT at home before losing. The rest they’ve been blown out by 19 pts or more. Beavs win tonight

The pac12 refs are an embarrassment to basketball.
Hard to watch
CR had that same look on his face.
Then again maybe he was just thinking about what he’s going to do with that next big check.
or maybe watching all of this bad basketball gave him indigestion and he shit himself
I sometimes accept the lack of money argument when it comes to being a BCS contending team in football, 85 players, coaching salaries getting insane, etc….but I will never be convinced that OSU can’t succeed in basketball if it wanted to.

Walks are TOs. That’s what I’m focusing on from here on out. If refs don’t start being consistent in their calls, then I will complain.
The refs were wildly inconsistent last night. The USC guards were carrying the ball like crazy and then they decide to call a carry on Cooke on a hesitation play where he faked out the ref as well as the defender.
OT – Portland-Tribune on everyone’s favorite Beaver punter:
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/209245-66843-nfl-punter-johnny-hekker-pro-bowl-huge-honor-incredible-experience-
I wish someone would ask Hekker why the bad punts in college and not in the pros?
Technique? Coaching? Maturity?
It became real for whatever reason.
Experience and coaching. I thought coming in to OSU, punting was secondary for him, quarterbacking primary.

I’ve been watching news on Lealao all week, and OSU has not been mentioned except for an occasional “final four” tweet here and there. This is what I get.

settle down, the kid changed his mind. I don’t think corporate america is to blame here.
Did he?
And I assume you’re using the term “america” loosely.

There is a point to this by the way.
When one buys in on these sites for news that we all have before, during and minutes after them, one is throwing good money after bad.
I feel like the next time I see Kerry Eggers I need to give him a sawbuck. He’s the best source for football by far. All my answers are answered as well as a few I haven’t asked.

always so much drama on this site.
EVERYONE KNOWS EGGERS IS THE BEST SOURCE. LET. IT. GO.
I didn’t realize this was a shouting match.
What, precisely, am I supposed to let go? It might not be fair to lump Scout, 247 and ESPN in with Blitz. But Blitz has a history with this site. And it’s an ugly one. Are they stationing 1 coach at each entrance to his house to keep other teams from visiting?
That’s too bad. Whatever will they do on a Friday night in Austin?
Here’s where I’d be in Austin tonight:
Fri Jan 31 – Mercer Street Dancehall
presents an Evening with Jimmie Vaughan
I saw Stevie Ray, the Fab T-birds and the Who on Labor Day weekend in 1989. Joe Ely, Jerry Jeff Walker and the O’Jays were outside before the doors opened. I got to meet Stevie and Jimmie before some live shots outside… the usual, “I love your stuff man,” kind of fan meet. Andre the Giant and the Ultimate Warrior “wrestled” in the Arena, and Miller Lite was free all afternoon and evening.
Free Miller Lite? C’mon Jack, you’re better than that.
I was 20, and it was hot as hell outside. Besides, my beer palate at that time depended on my wallet. Schaefer Lite and Shiner Bock were the norm. Miller Lite was a step up.
Understood. Gotta admit, I went through a Coors phase myself.
What a fun town. I was glad I didn’t do my undergrad there, because I figured out that I never would’ve gone to class.
http://www.bizjournals.com/portland/news/2014/01/31/oregon-state-fundraising-1-billion.html?page=all
that’s awesome!
I told Dr Ed that as soon as target is met, I would make my matching 1billion dollar gift. The check is in the mail.
Any of the locals know of any PWO’s who will be joining the Beav’s?
Public works officers?
Preferred walk ons.
Fadgers lose at home. Great start to the day.
3 home losses in a row. That’s crazy.
Crazy good!
Hopefully the Beavs can steal two back to back and kick UCLA’s ass. If they get the sweep, then we should sign head coach Craig Robinson to a “lifetime” auto-renewing contract so long as the team finishes with more than 4 conference wins in any 365 day span.
And Jack is a dickface. Jack really should be kept to a limit of comments per post. His pathetic self serving ramblings don’t need to be heard 60x about each topic.
Dude, you need to drop the shit with Jack. He gives quality input in here, and I can’t say the same about your posts.
Arizona goes down in Berkeley 60-58
Will there be an ucla thread? Starts in 30
