Arizona Recap/Early Civil War Discussion

423

When you look back on the season, it’s really not that surprising they beat Arizona this badly. The Beavs had been playing hard every week, almost every play, and improving in subtle ways. It seems no matter who gets injured the next guy up gives similar effort. I thought they’d win out UCLA, AZ, and Oregon, but with Nall out last week it put a damper on that. Still think they win the Civil War.

McMaryion was very impressive. Interesting that I wrote a QB can’t be fairly judged until they start six games. Last night was McM’s 6th career start. The week before I was beginning to doubt him and felt he might just be a good backup, but finally he showed what I saw all along. Now can he keep it up? We’ll see. Probably vs Oregon. His best games have been against soft defenses, so it’s still hard to say if he’s the answer, or if GA & crew will even let him be the answer should he prove he is. I sense a mishandling of the situation next year, but that’s for then.

The blueprint for winning the CW was laid out yesterday. Oregon’s QB situation looks improved as well. Both teams QB’s are playing their best ball, which should make for an offensive game. Beavers have a defensive advantage and a lot of pent out aggression to take out on the Ducks. I’m thinking 30-21 Beavs.

I’m stupidly taking the Beavs again.

Some talk about Hodgins committing to OSU today and the talk of Luton, so that’s all fair game, along with the hoops game tonight at 7.

I’m encouraged by the Luton news. Maybe something finally clicked for him.

Topics of interest this week,

Football recruiting:  Big week as we have a home game in which the Beavs are favored, with several visitors planning to make the trip.  One intriguing is Dorian Hall, out of Hollywood, FL.  Started his HS career playing QB, but his athleticism and size make him a really interesting prospect in the secondary.  Would be a neat deal if the Beavs could land him.

Also, 4* WR Isaiah Hodgins announces his decision this Friday.  Beavs/Huskers/Ducks in his top 3.  Couldn’t hand pick 2 better teams to beat out for a recruit, from a Beaver fan perspective.  If the Beavs land him, I think I would have to give the assist to Coach Rueck on this one. (will explain at a later date, if he does indeed end up here)

Basketball:  Hearing not so glowing reviews about the start to the MBB season.  Partially to blame could be STJ’s mystery foot injury.  Several new players also are being added to the mix with McLoughlin, Dew and Stacey joining the squad.  Plenty of time to gel before Pac-12 play.  WBB took care of business in game 1 and play game 2 tonight vs Idaho.

Keep your thoughts with Seth Collins this week, as we’ve heard he is battling health issues and was reportedly hospitalized in Corvallis.
