This is clearly an attempt to milk one more year off the contract. Beavs will be HORRIBLE next year based on roster alone. Combine that with a fanbase of one (JackBeav claims he’s the last standing), a coach who (for the tenth time) doesn’t seem to want to be in Corvallis, and an AD who only wants the coach for political and financial reason (the latter of his own doing).

Next year there might be 100 fans per game by mid-season. You might know every single one by name. Now that is family atmosphere!

It feels strange to be the lead Oregon State  op-ed writer. Especially without pay. But I can handle it.

Craig Robinson lives another day. He and Bob D met yesterday and no news means good news (for him). Next year should be very interesting with Scott Rueck dominating, Gill at sub 1k, and a starting roster full of sixth men. The silver lining is it will cement Bob D’s incompetence.

And then there’s the scathing piece Eggers wrote, which mildly implies he’s not afraid of ruining any future relationship with CR. While driving through Corvallis mid-week, I heard a lot of talk radio with the same sentiment. The host was saying he had to go because the fans weren’t engaged. That there is nothing worse than a fan base that’s too apathetic to even hate the coach. Obviously I agree, having written about the apathetic football fan base for years.

The buyout is 4 mil. It might be worth paying — attendance will be sub 1k per game next year, donors are bailing, and a new coach would likely boost both. So the 4 mil “loss” might be greater by keeping him around.
