Mike Leach Fired by Texas Tech

And Angry’s mind wanders…

With a tarnished reputation, they could probably get him on the cheap right now, too. Any chance we fire Langsdorf and hire Leach as OC? That would catapult the program and be a wise move…not sure what Danny’s contract status is and knowing how OSU handles money I doubt it’s an option.

  1. Ummm… I’m going to ask you a half serious question.

    Are you high?

Leach is known outside of Lubbock as a bombastic flake… and apparently at least half his team thinks this way also. I have never heard so much hatred oozing out of a locker room in my life. Bobby Knight, Woody Hayes, even Mark Mangino were only despised by one or some players. There’s a reason that a school who loved him would risk the ire of a fan base who absolutely loves him in order to drop kick him with emphasis.

That aside, he’s only ever been destined to be a mid-major coach. He just happens to have had the coincidence of playing in the weakest BCS conference in his time at TTech. The problem he faces now is sitting across from any mother and telling her that he’s going to care for her child.

    • Jack, it’s the off-season and a time to let the mind wander. Not high, no. I’d love to have this guy. Sorry if that offends you.

    • Wanting someone like him doesn’t offend me. The man himself offends all aspects of dignity, respect and love for this game.

If he were to be hired here before this incident, then I would have just rolled my eyes and watched as the Beavs reverted to the Pettibone days.

If he was to be hired here now then I would immediately become a Ducks fan.

      • That’s who I’m talking about. Riley finishes 3rd/4th yearly. To get into the top we have to have a jerk in charge like they do at the top.

      • Check that, I read it wrong.

I thought you were talking about Leach’s inability to ever place higher than third.

I don’t see Leach winning in the Pac 10 any more than did Koetter. Add to that years of terrible defenses, and Leach brings a Swiss cheese resume at best.

  2. I have not yet read the new NCAA rules governing concussions, but I have to imagine that Leach’s obvious and immediate disdain for this rule compounds the school’s need to move with haste.

  3. OK…

After watching a couple news reports from Lubbock I’ve come to two conclusions:

    1. Mike Leach is a moron.
    2. Mike Leach’s lawyer needs to shut up and fire himself before Mike Leach can’t get a job coaching Pop Warner.

  4. Angry, sorry but you are dead wrong on this and although you often bring up good points, you start to hurt credibility with a “win at all costs” mentality. This is a college sports program. If you want pro head somewhere else and bleed that color. This is about student athletes, getting them as “kids” and helping them mature into young men. Sorry, that may be naive, but that is why I live right near Corvallis and support the university in aspects that are both athletic and academic. I would take Mike Riley, his approach, his heart, and his 8-9 wins, over a guy like Leach EVERY SINGLE day. And I say that not from just the recent issue with Leach, but the overall approach I see from him versus Riley. You are actually mentioning replacing (firing) a guy who has led us within a game of the Rose Bowl in back to back years for someone else. Not very ethical on your part. Yeah, we struggle in the early season, yeah we lose a game we should not every year, yeah we really blew the Vegas Bowl, but this is a program all of us can easily support 100% because of the way it is run and the success we have had to this point. I really believe you are way off base here.

    • He’s musing about the idea of a Leach type coach rather than Leach himself. At least that’s what I get. He’s not confusing Leach’s being a moronic prick with the ‘mean streak’ or ‘edge’ that we seem to lack due to our conservative style. A Leach mentality would be to fling it if you got it. So a 31-7 halftime lead turns into a demoralizing 52-13 win rather than a ‘more dominating than the score appears’ 38-28 win.

    • Eh, I think that point is overrated. But yeah, stability is good and bad. Good for the program, but bad if your coach becomes complacent. Everyone performs better in contract years, from coaches to people like you and I.

  5. Btw… I’ve not heard a peep out of TTech regarding any improprieties during Leach’s tenure. Yeah, he’s been a little… well… a lot eccentric. But how did he get to this point so quickly? Usually behavior like this builds up over time. So why do all his ex-players and coaches love the hell out of him while his current team wants to douse him with gasoline and light a match?

  6. I would like to know if Leach was addicted to Ambien. Considering Tiger Woods and Urban Meyer’s love of this wonder drug, I’m starting to think it is the root of all bizarre behavior.

  7. TTech fans are going nuts over this situation. At this point it’s the fans against the team. I’ve never seen anything like this before.

Who in their right mind would want to play for such a stupid fan base?
