How about the players exiting the new VFC tunnel onto the field through giant tusks mounted on each side? This would literally be feet from where the bones were found and would be a visual exclamation to the new terrace gathering area at the upgraded VFC. Everyone who notices the terrace will also see the giant tusks which become the new emblem for Andersen’s growing program.

The stream from KKNX (Eugene) wasn’t working for the last game and isn’t working again tonight. Game time is the only time I go to their stream so I’m not sure what’s going on but it appears they’re not streaming at all.

Anyone know what’s going on with KKNX?

Beavers are really getting hosed with the officiating tonight. Stanford player just pulled GR down to the floor when he was trying to get the rebound and nothing was called. STJ has been getting fouled on a lot of his shot attempts and only one was called. Of course Stanford got a very weak call to cut the lead to 4 at halftime though.

Hate to say it, but Payton is kind of having another one of his “unfocused” road games. I know he’s been a little beat up in the first half, but some lazy passes and some clock unawareness. Not sure what it is on the road with him? He needs to be razor sharp in the 2nd half, their not going to keep up the 3 pt shooting.

Cal was very good but Oregon also played their worst defense of the season. Oregon State has really been playing some fantastic defense lately and Cal is due for some serious regression on their pointers as of late. If the Beavers get Duvivier to play like he did tonight and STJ plays well, they’ll have a shot. A win isn’t likely but the Beavers will play Cal better than Oregon did tonight. Getting the monkey off their back tonight is gonna be huge for their confidence

Oregon State has put themselves in good position with this win tonight. Beat Cal, Oregon or USC on the road and beat UW and WSU at home and they’re getting in the big dance cause they’ll have an RPI in the 20’s with a lot of quality wins. 9-9 in conference play with their quality home wins and a big road win probably gets them a 10 seed in the big dance.

The last 2 games we’ve seen a return to the 2014-15 defense. Guys are flying and running guys off the three point line, crashing the glass, getting a lot of deflections and forcing turnovers. Need to play that way the rest of the season.

Allen blowing past Olaf for a jam was classic Olaf defense. Not sure he even knows how to get into a defensive stance. This was one of Drew’s best defensive games of the season and he bailed out his teammates, so guys like Olaf didn’t look as bad. Olaf was even unsure about diving for the loose ball late cause he knew contact was coming. He just doesn’t have an aggressive mindset, so he’ll never be an okay rebounder cause he wants to be on the perimeter and not mixing it up with physical big guys in the paint. I don’t blame him for it, it’s just not who he is. Tinkle doesn’t need to play him much though.

Even Reid had 2 rebounds and 1 steal in only SIX minutes off the bench tonight. Some here may despise him just as much but he’s a better option than Olaf. And I agree I’d like to see more minutes for Rakocevic

Olaf has good nights once in a while and is a better offensive threat than the rest…that’s the only excuse to play him, but I’d argue it’s not worth it. At the least, see if he has his shot going early on, and if he doesn’t bench him for D. Only way it makes sense to have him out there is if he’s draining shots early and often. Too much of a liability otherwise. I did like his effort on that loose ball …he seems like a decent guy/good teammate. He’s also a pretty good passer, if we’re being fair.

Rakocevic showed a pretty nice jump hook in the post. He’s starting to show some really nice signs offensively. His defense is improving too. On a play where he hard hedged on the pick and roll, instead of just automatically running back to his man, he knocked a ball loose from Stanford’s guard and torpedoed that possession for Tree. Haven’t seen a single Beaver big man do that this season until tonight. That was impressive. He deserves more minutes. I’d rather go small at the 4 with more Tinkle and Reid and let them take guys off the dribble than have a guy like Olaf who just floats and doesn’t really do anything

I think the best lineup is MD, Payton, Thompson, Tinkle, Reid. When that lineup is out there I feel pretty good. Agree at least Reid does some things. Unfortunately he has that health issue so he can’t play a ton of minutes.

I used to feel good about Eubanks, but now I think I prefer Big G.
Bruce has been really disappointing. He seems sloppy handling the ball and into razzle-dazzle plays. It’s going to take a lot of coaching to make him a Pac-12 player.

I noticed Big G gets open inside, but either the guards don’t trust him yet or feeding the post is not part of their offense. With his size and position, I’d like to see him get 4 or 5 plays a game and see if he can convert some of them.

Ya know Angry, I actually thought about this with D Bruce. Duvivier will be a senior next year. With Jaquori Mclaughlin coming in and Bruce’s lack of PT this season it would not surprise me to see him transfer. Not saying it will happen but……

I’d be curious to know what specific examples Parker had in mind with the Olaf observation. I saw other slow white dudes blow by Olaf on the baseline and I counted three times he was out of position in the zone. He also rushed one wide open three and the shot looked awkward.

I wouldn’t be in the least surprised if Bruce ends up transferring. He just doesn’t fit in at all. He showed potential early on as a press breaker and he can shoot and pass, but he gets beat off the dribble a ton, he pushes the ball to a fault and makes poor decisions within the offense regularly, resulting in bad shots (live ball turnovers). He just can’t get out of his own way. Most guys wouldn’t leave just because of PT, it seems bigger than that.

I just don’t know what to make of any lineup. None of our bigs are outstanding and consistent. Eubanks had a good game tonight, but hasn’t regularly produced against Pac-12 level competition. But he has a ton of potential. Rakocevic has improved and I like his approach. N’Diaye is valuable for foul reasons and he can play a bit. Reid is just poop game in motion. Schaftenaar gets beat on PnR.

Don’t see Bruce transferring, He’ll get his opportunity to run the offense next year.

Eubanks played one of his best games in conference. He played good D and made the most of his opportunities on offense. Most importantly, he didn’t look lost.

Rakocevic – it comes down to the mental game. Physically he’s there, he’s got a nice touch and positions himself well. But commits some dumb fouls.

I can’t figure out why there’d be any negative comments about Eubanks. Although he does seem to make one dumb foul in the first 3 minutes and then will also get called for some chi-chi ticky tack foul which puts him on the bench too long. He and Reid on D together seems to work pretty well.

When Eubanks is left in for long stretches, his inexperience shows. He tends to get lost in the shuffle in the offense on set plays. His best offense is in transition. Then on defense he can lose focus. It shows when he’s out muscled for a rebound or grossly out of position. He did show a bit of growth last night by going up strong for rebounds and being a little more patient on his shot blocking.

He’s good for about a 8 minutes at a time. By the time he’s a senior, he’ll be good for 30-35 min a game. If he can show off that jump shot every once in a while, combined with a sky hook, he’ll be averaging around 15 and 10 a game.

What shouldn’t be lost is I think Wayne changes the defensive of schemes on a game-by-game to matchup with who they are playing. It looked like last night they implemented a 2-3 matchup zone trap. The players at times looked a little lost on their rotations, however their effort and energy was there. It was a good adjustment on the first time they met Stanford. I think Wayne probably plays the guys who picked up the scheme the best during practice. Other schemes might require the skills of the other players from game to game. We probably will see something different for Cal game. Two things that need improvement, free throws (11th in conference) and turnovers.

I think what he means by the turnovers, is that they are more self inflicted than the other team causing them.

There were a few very lazy passes that were picked off by Stanford.

Your right turnovers are not HUGE deal last night, in fact the first half of half number one they had very few, but then they got a bunch all in a row, with just sloppy unforced errors. They actually do a pretty good of handling pressure on the ball. But rifling passes in the lane or pushing the outlet pass when its not there were some things I saw. They just need to be a little bit smarter in the situation. For example, at the end of the game up 7 or 9 pts, they received an offensive rebound and Tinks went back up with it on a off-hand reverse from under the basket and missed badly. If he kicks it out and they restart the weave offense it takes down another :20 seconds off the clock. another one was I think Stevie got a turn over and they broke into the front court passed it LMW who tried a contested layup and missed. I like the aggressiveness, however if its not uncontested I would rather have seen pull up and work the offense and burn more clock. He also had the option of passing on the break to an open Beav (although a Stanford defender was trailing not to far behind). Those types of turnovers or misses kept Stanford in “hang-around” mode until they sealed it much later.

Fell asleep with two minutes left. Just watched the end of the game. They finished it nicely by attacking the pressure and taking the ball to the basket. Lavin summed up Tinkle’s intangible skills nicely. He usually does the right thing on the court. Big G looks like he can be a productive player going forward. Does Olaf know that it is legal to jump for a rebound, or is he still playing wooden shoe rules?

Women’s hoops is rolling right now. I expect them to cream Utah and USC, but UCLA is the next “big” game they have. It’s a team they have to avenge their loss to. Then Stanford on the road right after that is another “big” game. I think Cal is a good opportunity for a win, but they have to take care of business overall if they want to be serious about a push towards the Final Four. This last two weeks of the season is super important, and they have set themselves up well.

I do wonder if they go into the P-12 Tourney and lose the 1st rounder, they get denied at 18-12? I wish they had found a couple of other decent non-conference games. 17-8 looks a lot better right now.
