  1. Visited Truax on Saturday for the 50 yd line sale. Tables and tables of excess jerseys, pants, warmups, posters, etc and a bunch of T-shirts. 100’s of fans rummaging thru the piles trying to find a size or jersey number…..GOT A REAL LAUGH to see stacks of CRAIG ROBINSON BASKETBALL CAMP T-shirts UNTOUCHED. And i mean untouched. Even if someone needed a nice T for $5, NOBODY was going to touch one of the shirts. As i left, had to go by the table one more time and see the stacks (there was at least 4 stacks) still sitting there.

In the checkout line, had 20 minutes to share our CR misery with everyone there.

  2. One more to go! Let a new AD pick the next coach. OSU is a Pac-12 job and there aren’t that many openings so talent should be able to be attracted. Too many good things happening in this conference.

  3. Obviously BDC just wanted to wait until the Princeton AD position was filled just to screw CR out of a fallback option. What a mastermind!

I think we should organize a letter writing campaign to BDC protesting CRs firing citing the “accomplishments” BDC listed when he affirmed CR wouldn’t be fired back in March. You just fired the winningest coach we’ve had in 50 years. Shame on you, BDC!

Seriously though, this is the right call. CR has had more than enough time and not enough results. Too bad this is such a costly decision to make though.

Now, how about people start listing some coaches that “would just love the amazing Pac-12 coaching experience” offered by accepting a job at this dumpster fire so we can be disappointed when we hire a coach from a community college rec league.

  4. Dear Bob, better start taking different routes to work every day and wearing a hat on the chrome dome. It is a perfect aiming point for a drone launched Hellfire. Hope your accountant has been on the straight and narrow. I’m feeling a letter from the IRS in the near future. Good luck with that.

  5. Interesting list of candidates out there, got to think BDC had to have some preliminary discussion with some of potentials before doing this?

Roberto tweeted that he heard David Grace (Ucla Asst) was in the running. Others thrown out there are Damon Stoudamire, Rick Adelman, and Gary Close (WIsconsin Asst)

    • “got to think BDC had to have some preliminary discussion with some of potentials before doing this?” what in his past leadership has shown that he thinks anything through?

OSU needs a new AD more than it needed a new hoops coach.

      • I ran into DeCarolis at the coffee shop across from Gill when I was down there for the Ducks baseball series. I introduced myself as a donor and introduced my buddy, who is actually writing pretty big checks. He couldn’t have been less interested in talking to us.

        • No college AD should regard himself as too busy and important to spend a few minutes chatting with alumni donors at a campus coffee shop. Unless there was some sort of emergency requiring BDC’s immediate attention (which seems unlikely), that was simply a jerk move on BDC’s part. Just one more datapoint, but a revealing one, in my opinion.

        • Same thing happened to my buddy and I a number of years ago. We paid to be in his suite as part of the recruiting dinner auction prize. Come game day, he strolled in there shaking everyone’s hand. He literally went to everyone but when he got to us, gave us an arrogant look and walked away. We still laugh mightily over that snub.

  6. If we were hiring when coaches are fired by competent AD’s, the guy from NDSU and now at Ohio, Saul Philips would have been an interesting hire.

      • Is AC Green still a virgin?

All interesting picks. Wish DS and ACG had more experience…Grace is probably the best of that group because he has some experience. Jack will show up with a great list of guys we aren’t thinking of. Right now I’d take Howland of all the names being thrown around.

  7. i’d like to see them hire Tommy Lloyd – Asst coach and recruiting Guru at Gonzaga. Would take some serious money to get him out of SpoCompton. I don’t see Few leaving anytime soon, so it would make sense for Tommy to step into a Pac12 HC position for a few years. He’s definitely ready.

  8. “Source tells me Oregon State has already circled in on its leading candidate to replace Craig Robinson.”

Could it be David Grace from UCLA?

Seems like an OSU thing to do to hire an assistant that left from CR’s staff. He was the one who recruited Roberto Nelson, Joe Burton, Eric Moreland, Victor Robbins, Langston Morris-Walker, and Jarmal Reid so at least he can recruit players that are decently rated. I don’t know how excited people would be for a replacement to be someone that was on CR’s staff at one point…

  9. Most of the time fans say “we need a Home run hire”, but I think this program needs to get a Single, we just need a hit to get some runners on base. #Slumpbuster

This is a complete gut job, would an assistant with no HC experience be the right person for that job? I think maybe a re-tread however unappealing that might be, it maybe the way to go just to have somebody who knows how a program should run?

    • Robinson was a “single” hire. A coach with only 2 years as a HC.

No to any assistant coach with no HC experience.

I’d like to see an experienced HC since this is not a complete rebuild. So I’m saying like a double that maybe could turn into an inside the park home run.

I’m curious to hear why they were able to buyout the contract now. A new coach is going to cost quite a bit.

      • I see the Obaminson hire as a long fly ball to deep center. It made a lot of noise, gave it a good ride, but in the end it was nothing but an “out”

        • I think he was good at all but the actual basketball of it. He did help us get a new practice facility and helped repair relations with Gary Payton. And, on paper at least, this team should have more talent than the one that was there when he took over. But yeah, overall not a “win.”

  10. Someone should call Eugene 911. Jack must be on be on a tall bridge or building ledge for this to come out and not have a post longer than a Russian novel. Maybe Jack is really CR?

    • Interesting. It would explain why CR seemingly never had time for x’s & o’s and/or player development of any kind. He was too busy kissing everyones ass and making excuses on angrybeavs 24/7.

    • BDC should utilize the Villa 7 networking organization to get some names. He won’t, but he should.
The Scott R model would also be good. Try to nab a HC at a lower level that is a proven winner.
Don’t sell it short. This is a PAC 12 job and they are desirable.

  11. “Change and hope.” We changed and now have some hope. Angry, did your source say anything about what changed BDC’s mind that lead him to finally can Robinson?

    • No but I’d guess the transfers + fans balking. Maybe he did some math, too, and realized the buyout (4mil) can be recouped with better attendance. Next years attendance should go up a lot just for the excitement of a new guy.

      • Agree. The program was in a death spiral. This should have happened a month ago.
        Danny, CR………who is next?

    • They tried to do the union thing like Northwestern and Uncle Phil threatened to send them to one of his Asian sweatshops?

  12. “Recent transfers cemented my decision”- Bob D on why he changed his mind on keeping/firing CR.

Hallice Cooke and Barton’s biggest contribution to OSU were leaving OSU.

    • BDC said he wants to have somebody hired in 2 weeks, that is pretty fast, got to think some of this there is a guy in line or at least somebody that has expressed interest.

      • He should hire a replacement as fast as he can. No search committee this time. Don’t leave the players in limbo.

Ben Howland is always a name mentioned for any opening. Connor mentioned a few names, Marvin Menzies, Russell Turner, and Lester Conner. No idea how interested they would be. Menzies would be interesting. 4 tournament appearances and is fairly cheap.

    • He would be the best hire, but I can’t see him living in Corvallis. I realize he was born in Oregon but he strikes me as CA.

  13. Woo hoo!

    Who hates Mondays now?

What a great weekend. I guess Bobby D made enough money on the dunk tank to buy out Coach Rob?

Quick thoughts on who we can get:
    1. Howland – always a mention
    2. Musselman – I like this choice
    3. Russell Turner – good pedigree and a pretty good recruiter
    Then it gets wacky…
    4. Damon Stoudamire – people are smoking some funny stuff for this one
    5. Lester Conner – whomever mentions him knows nothing about hoops and isn’t even trying
    6. Marvin Menzies – yeah… one of the people CR could regularly out-coach
    7. Adelman – sure
    8. Maco Hamilton – actually not as wacky as 4-7, but really really green
    9. David Grace – really people?

So let’s start our own rumors.
Jay Wright and Tom Izzo – just because.
Greg McDermott – because his recruiting and coaching abilities won’t diminish now that his son has graduated… will they?
Altman – if people thought OSU was in a death spiral, what must they think of Nikegon right now?

Bobby D was right about a couple things today. The program is in a much better place than it was six years ago. But it was stuck on a plateua and going nowhere so long as CR was coach. We just needed a change to get us over the hump. Getting someone without head coaching experience is not going to do that.

It will be interesting to see what actual names are floated in the next week. I think Howland and Musselman are the strongest candidates, but you never know who else might show up.

  14. After the duck news today, between OSU and OU we “might” be able to field a team next week–think there’s 10 eligible players currently.

  15. Wasn’t some dork just saying AB never breaks news? Doh.

Not that it’s the point of this site, but that was a dumb thing to say. I break as I get, so that’s up to readers.

  16. In the are of odd timing, Mississippi State announced they have a two-year deal (read: home and home) with OSU men’s hoops.
