Great day to be a Beaver! Bob D grows a sack and does what needed doing. See, who says we aren’t positive?
Now on to the hard part. Hiring the right replacement.
Names being thrown around. In order I find desirable and plausible.
Ben Howland
Randy Bennett
Saul Phillips
Seth Greenberg
Russel Turner
AC Green
Damon Stoudamire
Leon Rice
My instincts say it will be Ben Howland. Reason being Bob D would only fire CR if he knew he could make it up in attendance figures, and of all the names being thrown around Howland (and maybe Randy Bennet) is the only one who would fill the seats. CR and cash for Howland would be a good trade on paper, so I’m all for it if that’s where this is headed. OSU needs a legit coach…a Dennis Erickson type who can turn the program around fast. Howland feels like that guy. Right place, time, and fit, so I think that’s the hire. Well see within a week or so.
Thanks for the practice facility, CR, and good luck scamming Joe Sixpack out of his 401k at your next job.
Jack mentioned Adelman in the last post. Is he even interested in coaching still? I know he retired early to move back home and be with his wife who has medical problems, but it seems like the shortened college schedule and proximity to home might make that a situation that could work out. I would love to have him at OSU, but also know he’s a little older and might not be up to a multi year coaching job.
After Adelman, I’d be happy with Howland for sure. Great recruiter and a better X’s and O’s guy than CR. Doesn’t have the endorsement of Bill Walton, but I’ve never really valued Walton’s opinion for some time.
AC Green- Sorry, don’t think he’d want to be the guy to replace CR. Plus, his lifestyle doesn’t mesh with today’s player.
Damon Stoudamire- Not sure if he’s still popular in these areas to pull off a job here.
I don’t know enough about the others to comment
Adelman was mentioned out in twitter land. I just thought it was funny anyone would have wasted their time even typing it.
$4 million to get rid of that worthless piece of crap! YIKES!!!
Let’s all hope bobby doesn’t give the new HC an iron clad 10 year contract right out of the gate.
If Dr. Ray gave a rat’s ass about OSU athletics he’d fire bobby in a heartbeat.
I’m not picking on you here M&S. Your comments are extremely tame and have nothing to do with what I’m about to comment on. But they are related in just that way.
On political forums and sports blogs there are a gawd-awful shitload of racist and misogynistic comments from “conservatives” out there regarding this firing. Some of them actually shock me. Some of them are from contributors I’ve known for years and would have never suspected as being as vile as they are. It’s like this is a free-for-all of piranhas in blood-tainted water. Wtf man? It’s so bad that some of these previously well mannered people are pouring it on with pics of gorillas and tearing down womanhood. I think some of them got carried away and realized it later. Because I’m seeing a lot of comments starting to be removed “by the user.”
I knew things were strained out there, and I suspected race had something to do with some of it. But I could never have predicted this free outpouring of overt filth. It’s a jubilee of sickness out there. I’ll refer to the original SI report since it’s probably the most tame out there:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-basketball/news/20140505/oregon-state-craig-robinson-fired/
So I just retreated to the tinfoil hat sites where I would have expected some of this. They aren’t nearly as bad. They’re still holding to just the silly talking points like BDC “will be sent to Benghazi” or “OSU will be audited by the IRS.”
I don’t think the IRS wants to get in a bean-counting war with BDC. That would be funny to watch.
Also funny…
pages and pages of scores of google sourced links about CR’s firing:
“Craig Robinson Fired/Out/Gone as Oregon State Head Basketball Coach”
FauxNews:
“Brother of Michelle Obama fired as basketball coach at Oregon State”
Classic!
C’mon, Jack, don’t you think the story will attract more eyes if the connection to the White House is mentioned? There is a whole country out there that has trouble telling the difference between a Beaver and an uck, a story about Oregon State, it seems clear, is more attractive with the BIL angle mentioned.
A quick check shows the headline or first sentence mentions the BIL thing in stories by: ABC, Yahoo, and even O-live. It’s not just Fox.
Yes, but the headline is completely different on one site and one site only. Truth is truth, and TMZ truth is just as truthy as the real truth. I’d be willing to bet they repeat this particular truth at least three more times within the story as well as in the headline… while real news organizations mention this truth once and assume the people reading can actually do so.
Is Randy Bennett still on NCAA probation for violations?
I can’t see AC Green as coach.
We already asked him to dance and he said, ‘No.’ Time to ask the next chick to dance.
Agreed…
He ran when it was tough sledding. He doesn’t get to play on the hill now.
Bennett, Green, Mighty Mouse and Rice are just lazy rumors. Damon might make a run at the job, but do we want to go from a two-year HC to a no-year HC? Besides, I remember when Damon was booed by 10K fans in Gill for choosing Zony instead of OSU… booed constantly and loudly all game long.
Greenberg is an interesting mention. But I don’t want to play a non-con schedule so bad that we never make it the dance unless we win the Pac Tourney. And he wasn’t a particularly great recruiter in the ACC.
Phillips away from Ohio? I guess it’s possible. If you’re looking for a more proven NCC coach, then Scott Nagy is by far the better choice. He has been nothing but successful on all levels, and his teams don’t do any worse on the D1 level than they did prior to moving up.
Turner will apply. He has applied for every opening over the last couple months and not been in the running. But he has shown promise and development.
Howland is a big name and has a lot of baggage, deserved or not.
Musselman is the only other name out there right now. He was mentioned six years ago. Now he will be mentioned again. He has NBA ties and recruiting chops. We just don’t know how much he’ll be into a head coaching job on the college level.
Bennett won’t happen as he’s on probation at St. Mary’s and potential suitors will not want to deal with that possibly happening in their program. I do like Howland to OSU. Guy was born nearby Lebanon, good recruiter, got a bad deal at UCLA (face it, who hasn’t since Wooden retired) and did a great job at Northern Arizona and Pitt.
I would throw Wayne Tinkle in there too. I think he’s done a nice job at Montana. And he could always retain Brown as an assistant, giving the players a little bit of consistency from one regime to the next.
Like Howland for the Final Four resume but concede Stoudamire would also sell tickets and make OSU more cool to in state and other recruits. I know with Stoudamire you will be able to see he is trying unlike with Robinson. Howland, Stoudamire or whoever should not have to work for BDC though. Don’t have any interest in ex-OSU assistant David Grace. He won’t move the needle.
I went to high school with Stoudamire at Wilson in the 90s. He is a pretty good guy although I’d be a little concerned he would be a little loose on the recruiting. Wouldn’t want any infractions on an already precious position here at OSU.
http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2014/05/damyean_dotson_suspension_foll.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Ducks forceable rape charges, yikes.
Wow.
Thought I read the DA wasnt going to pursue charges? After reading the police report, these dirtbags deserve punishmemt. The report is linked in this article.
http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2014/05/damyean_dotson_suspension_foll.html#comments
read it. fail to understand how there is a “lack of evidence”
maybe a lack of DNA evidence since it sounds like they wrapped up?
Either way, I like how the UofO reports the story as the players aren’t taking part in any “team activities” any longer. Is that what they consider a “team activity” at UofO?
I know its cliche to say something like “I know somebody who works at the Eugene police department….” but, I know somebody that works at the Eugene police department and any Duck players that are charged with anything are apparently treated very differently than the rest of us; separate processes and treatment for them. Not surprising, but it remains disappointing.
not overly surprising. I was astounded over the audio from the state police when Darren Thomas and Cliff “Illiterate” Harris and company got pulled over for going 118 mph on I5 and then let go.
Which is quite the opposite of CPD and BCSO concerning OSU athletes. Being pulled over for DWB is quite the norm.
Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein
Sources: Ben Howland tops Oregon State’s list of three to replace Craig Robinson. Here’s more @CBSSports http://cbsprt.co/1htjO4X
Sounds like it is Howland’s job if he wants it.
Best resume available and I think in 3-4 years at most OSU would make the Tourney w/ Howland.
I have the upmost confidence that BDC will find a way to fuck this up
He already did. The firing is 4-5 weeks too late.
Howland, Rice or Greenberg would be my top 3 of those choices. I have no Idea who Saul Phillips or Russel Turner are. Have to look them up. Absolutely NO to David Grace or Stoudamire.
Man, I have to say I’m surprised by the move. As far as I’m concerned, BDC comes out looking like the fool here, and by extension, OSU.
How do do give a coach a vote of confidence at the end of the season and a vote of no confidence two weeks later? And if BDC doesn’t already have someone lined up, or at least under consideration, he’s going to look even more foolish. You don’t can someone unless you have someone else better in the queue.
All I can think is some important boosters forced BDC to make the call, or he’s even more inept that I thought originally.
Man, this site was in great form all through that previous thread …lol!
But I agree with OJ, what’s with the smoke and mirrors about BDC’s previous public support for CR, totally indicating his job was secure, and now, suddenly, CR is ifred?? What the hell is the deal there? Was BDC just playing games, and actually told CR that he would be fired, but not immediately, so BDC could talk to potential candidates? This looks a bit incompetant.
Someone please explain —
Read what is available on Oregon Live via Canzano. It was stated that the noise failed to subside on this issue from supporters. People were not going to be coming to the games and I think that became more clear as the weeks passed. Coupled with the players leaving.
Was hoping for Howland but this may have tipped the scales in Tinkles favor…
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24443295/wayne-tinkle-atop-college-hoops-sexiest-coaches-list
It would surprise me if Tinkle left this year. His son, Tres, a basketball star will be a senior in high school, 2014-2015.
Howland does make the most sense. But would he really want the job? And he’d have to address the player issues when he left UCLA to appease me.
Greenberg would be a decent choice.
The rest would be reaches.
Greenberg was turned down by OSU when they hired either McKay or John. Look how those hires turned out.
I think Greenberg wanted it but OSU went with Jay John instead. I will still kick him in the nuts if I ever see him
I do agree with Jack that the wackos have been out dancing on the grave. Lot’s of amnesia and revisionist history. The deed is done and may CR find success in his future ventures. He was and is a decent guy. I would be slightly concerned about Musselman. He left behind some unhappy folks at GS and Sac. By the way, Sac State Football Coach was forced to leave in a hurry.
It’s not the dancing on the grave part that surprised me. It’s the depths to which some people I thought were reasonable went to in order to dance. I always knew the schedenfreude would be irrational because the whining about CR was mostly (comparatively) irrational for the length of his tenure. But I expected it more from the anarcho-liberals like the Tea Party contributors. For the most part, they just stuck with their tired lines about nothingness. It was the “mainstream” contributors on some of the sites I play around on that really surprised me. They were suddenly finding license to mimic this as if it were truth:
http://www.dailystormer.com/did-oregon-state-hire-failure-head-coach-at-the-request-of-barack-obama/
I was truly shocked. I thought I had seen it all. But now I know that I can’t even trust years of correspondence to formulate a sense of a person online.
Terry Porter
There is plenty of disgruntlement in Beaver Nation with De Carolis, whose contract runs through July 2016. A group of alums and donors have a meeting planned with him over the next two weeks to discuss their concerns.
So I guess it’s not just most of us. But we’re the bad fans who are dragging OSU down. The assholes. The black sheep. First thing DeCareless needs to fucking understand is that you don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Stop being such an abrasive prick!
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/219541-80327-eggers-taking-a-deep-look-at-oregon-state-basketball-post-craig-robinson
Eggers says:
“When De Carolis made the decision to retain Robinson, “I was looking at it through orange-colored glasses,” he said during a Monday press conference. “After I re-evaluated all those thoughts, I was coming to a different place. I was more objective this time around. I simply now believe we need a fresh start.”
What changed in six weeks? Moreland declared for the NBA, Cooke announced he was transferring and De Carolis was bombarded with calls and emails from alums and donors, questioning the wisdom of his decision to keep the president’s brother-in-law.
It might be that De Carolis was ticked off that Robinson, in a Corvallis Gazette-Times interview following the announcement he would be back, declined to reveal the plan for success he had pitched to the De Carolis. Maybe De Carolis realized how ridiculous Robinson sounded in declaring that, if Moreland were to return, Oregon State would be ranked in the preseason top 25 next season.
Perhaps contributions arrived to pay off Robinson (though De Carolis said Monday donors won’t help pay off the contract). Maybe the school will dip into its $1.2 billion fundraising campaign to unload the athletic department of a problem and get the basketball program a start in a new direction.
After De Carolis’ announcement that he would retain Robinson, players still in the program may have approached the AD with complaints about the coach, or threats about leaving. If that’s the case, the question would be, why didn’t De Carolis seek out their opinion before reaching his decision?
I wrote six weeks ago that, though Oregon State couldn’t afford to fire Robinson, it couldn’t afford not to.
Another year of sinking fortunes — it’s not secret the cupboard is close to bare — would have dropped the program even lower, putting the Beavers another year behind in the resurrection movement.”
Sometimes you have to cut your losses, however painful it is in the pocketbook in the short term.”
BDC not looking good in some of his deliberations, for sure.
Didnt realize Cooke is still technically a Beav. wonder if he stays with a new coach. I’m not a fan of quitters, but i also appreciate what his quitting on the Beavs accomplished for the rest of us. got to give him credit for forcing bobby d’s hand.
I hope it is not Howland. The flameout at UCLA as chronicled by SI did not paint a pretty picture.
We need a young guy that is still hungry. The timing of this is classic BDC.
I think Howland would do fine without the prima donna AAU egomaniac players he had at FUCLA. He isn’t gonna get those types of players to Corvallis
[i]After the past football season, De Carolis chose not to pay bonuses to assistant coaches for playing in the Hawaii Bowl that were written into their contracts. Granted, money is tight at OSU, but it still created some friction within the program.[\i]
I must have missed that…anyone have details or a link on what happened there? How do you “choose” not to pay a contractual bonus?
That is amazing. Really a great thing for morale among your employees.
well, it’s kinda his own fucking fault. He’s the idiot who decided to reward the football coaching staff for mediocrity.
“Rewarding mediocrity” is an apt description of Riley’s contract, right?
if getting another year for going 7-6 and a crappy bowl game isn’t rewarding mediocrity, then please tell me what is.
Employees or spoiled brats from the generation of me me me? Entitlement anyone? If a guy with a million dollar contract can not share his unearned booty, what does that say about the head guy and his family values?
Did I read in here or somewhere else that Riley paid out the bonuses?
Maybe you’re thinking of this? When Riley was flirting with Wisconsin, he used his leverage to get raises for his assistants a couple years ago.
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/125681-beavers-notes–oregon-state-staff-getting-raises?tmpl=component&page=
This was the first I had heard of Bobby D pulling the bonuses though.
You ctually make it appear really easy alon wityh your presentation buut I find this topic to be really something which I think I’d by no means understand.

This is interesting because I have to think BDC has someone locked up who is known and has a winning resume or else why bother unless there were other things going on behind the scenes with CR?
That’s why it seems like Howland has already said yes (but with BDC who the hell truly knows?).
I guess this means CR won’t be going to China with the P-12 all-stars!
“with bdc, who the hell really knows,” Precisely. IMO, an AD should be outgoing, a good listener, and have a genuine feel for what he’s doing. Yesterday, BDC behaved as though the press conference was a bother. His curt, superior style doesn’t endear him to anyone, much less the fans.
BDC would be stupid not to take Howland at this point as he’s a proven winner, good recruiter, and I think a guy that got caught up in a bad situation at UCLA (believe me, they will run Steve Alford out within time…unless he leaves on his own). It would be a win-win for both Howland and OSU as the school needs to get a winning basketball program and the fans and players are hungry to win and Howland, I think, would enjoy Corvallis IMO.
LOL about the Pac-12 All Stars. I think that they may send Ernie Kent as the coach or Romar. Kent would be good as he has already coached in a foreign country and has a great personality.
For those of you clamoring no to Ben Howland, consider this. Where has that style of play worked? Well, it worked for the Bennett’s on the Palouse. It’s worked in Madison. We aren’t going to get the 4 and 5 star caliber athletes capable of being able to run with the UCLA’s, Arizona’s, Kentucky’s, etc. Where and why did Howland flame out? Obviously trying to cater to the prima donna 5 star athletes at UCLA. But he didn’t get those types of players at Pitt or NAU. So why wouldn’t it work here? It would and it can. And it’s the way to go given the said reasons above. Anyone else remember CR’s first year? When OSU ACTUALLY played defense and ran the slow down modified Princeton offense? Maybe CR would have gotten some different results had he stuck to that formula. It’s the one formula that can and will work in Corvallis. If Wisconsin can do it, and beat Arizona to get to the final four, why can’t it work here?
I don’t think anyone’s clamoring against Howland. And the points you bring up here are good ones. Howland’s style is a lunch pail style. And he lost his team only after he started giving them the freedom he promised them when he himself recruited them. That would be the prima donna factor you speak of.
I think there are reservations about Howland because he did so drastically change his own values in order to yield to his players. In essence, he didn’t lose his team. He let them go. That’s just a weird thing for a coach to do.
I do think the talent assembled is right up his alley… except for Olaf. And even Olaf can benefit from a little role playing and D toughness. He did show some block skills this past season. He can show more due to his size and athleticism.
But players like Gomis, N’diaye, Reid, Manderson and especially Oliver could thrive in his style.
What?!?!? Jack mostly agreeing with me?!?!? Holy shit the world must be coming to an end!
I will agree Howland made some mistakes while at FUCLA. But like I stated he isn’t going to get those types of players to come to Corvallis. The only reservations I would have is if he is showing up to practice late and leaving early or being a complete dick to staff and players since he was allegedly “not known as a players coach”. But I’d also be more than willing to bet that he’s had a chance to look back and reflect at what went wrong and where he could improve. The guy hasn’t forgotten how to coach in the 2 years he’s been out. of the game. And I think that is exactly what is needed here. Someone to instill some discipline in the players and teach them to play defense. If the knock on him is he isn’t known as being an offense guru, then he has to be smart enough to surround himself with assistants that will be.
Reeves Nelson was a guy that should never have been recruited period and he was one of the big catalysts for Howland’s demise. I only know what happened from what was in Dohrmann’s SI article, but I heard he had MAJOR problems in HS and was a ticking timebomb. Robinson hasn’t exactly left the program bare and Howland would have talent to work with unlike when CR took over for Jay “Jackass” John.
So you’re saying he’d be a perfect fit in Eugene????
How about a guy with Oregon and Pac 12 ties?
Lionel Hollins.
Heh heh…
Then we could get his son to transfer to OSU? I thought he got a raw deal at Memphis last year.
It does make for an interesting pool if we open it up to NBA coaches who may just be looking for a place away from the NBA grind. What if D’antoni were to go to the college game? He’s supposedly a superior developer of talent, and his offense has yet to be figured out on the college level. In fact, his offense would be like Chip Kelly’s offense is to college football. It won’t work on the pro level once everyone and their grand’ma figures out how to stop it with a fairly static pool of talent. But on a level where the talent is constantly turning over (and his own talent would be hand-picked by him instead of dealt to him) his offense could make all others look silly for a long while.
There are quite a few bodies of former NBA coaches strewn about the landscape. Musselman is one. Does someone else do what Mike Dunlap did last month with LMU and go back to the college ranks?
Hollins would be an interesting choice. I have heard the reason he got canned was that he was a pain in the butt to his bosses. His son Austin was a total class act here at Minnesota and a very good college player. Sorry Jack. He has already graduated and has no eligibility left.
Given the travails of BB this past few years-I still watched the games as it fun to watch talented players, as opposed to the teams we had 4-5 years ago. That said…
1) We have an opportunity-hopefully this will create change we can believe in.
2) For one day at least, we have the high moral ground on the state of Ducks Basketball. I’m glad we are discussing regime change instead of forcible rape (allegedly) not being pursued by the local DA’s office.
Brutal police report–and interesting comment reading:
http://www.addictedtoquack.com/2014/5/5/5685610/dotson-artis-austin-suspended-following-forcible-rape-investigation
Win the day, indeed.
Win the lay? Doesn’t the fact that Artis and Austin had been accused of sexual assault while at Providence merit more investigation of that alleged assault? Sounds like a pattern of behavior from those two ass clowns.
Howland was also interested in the Rutgers job last year after the Mike Rice Jr. firing, so he is interested in taking over bad programs and Rutgers is worse than Oregon State.
Welp… Manderson is out.
Wouldn’t it make sense for him to make a decision after the new coaching staff is announced?
Connor Letourneau (@ConnOregonian) tweeted at 11:29 AM on Tue, May 06, 2014:
Isaiah Manderson has asked for his release papers from OSU. Said he’s still interested in looking at the Beavers, though.
He also said Manderson texted him amd said he’s basically opening his recruitment all over again. Smart move on his part.

Yes… Grace would bring the team back together. We’ve already lost Cooke, Faust and now Manderson. Cooke is unlikely to come back, especially if Howland is in. But Manderson could be persuaded to stick it out if the conditions are good.
Grace is just a non-starter, as is Mighty Mouse. Bobby D wants a head coach to be the next head coach. He’s tired of rolling the dice on assistants and having it blow up in his face.
Exactly. Grace and Stoudamire have zero head coaching experience. Do not want. I don’t give a rats ass what the players want.
What make you think we lost Faust?
Reaching out to recruits. Worth noting: Nick Faust said last week that a possible Robinson firing wouldn’t affect his commitment to OSU.

grapevine says Faust isn’t coming.

After a day of thinking about it, Howland would be a fine choice. He’ll be able to bridge the gap until bdc retires. Then if Howland leaves for another job, the new AD can hire his own coach.
One thing bdc can do if he hires Howland is to insist on hiring asst coaches who are almost ready to take over as hc.
Re grace – absolute no. Unproven as a coach and a big reach. Less likely to crater under Howland.
Anybody ready for some BASEBALL? 6pm, PAC12 network.
Pat Bailey confirmed on JoeRadio that Dylan Davis will get the start against the ucks tonight. I don’t care if it is non-conference, smack Phil’s pretty (mouthy) boys!!
I’d also like to see the BP get some quality time but that assumes a big lead and decent performance from the pen. A lot to hope for, it seems, but the pen really does need to get sorted out very soon.
Surprised Thompson not getting the start. The frosh need to get some real experience or next year could be dicey with our two great lefties gone.
Davis gift wrapped that run. 3 walks and a wild pitch. Tied @ 1 after 2 innings
Stupid. Davis should have been held up at third.
saw that too. and I agree
t4 Beavs go up 3-2 on Hendrix 2RBI double. Should have another run but for Clark’s baserunnig inattention. Some sloppy efforts tonight.
Gabe Clark is horrible. How can Mike Parker say Jared Casper is our best defensive first baseman. I would take Keyes any day. Hope he is back soon.
They are playing like crap.
True. Max E may still have a good night.
Take some slight solace from the fact that AJ “mouth” Balta isn’t doing much!
I think I heard end of May for Keyes.
Yeah, I think any hopes for making the SC series beginning 5/23 is pretty slim. Wonder if his injury would allow some PH by then? Seems like a thumb injury wouldn’t allow that but the MD’s are doing more and more good stuff now.
OK, BG, here comes Thompson
Conforto bloop 2B to start the t7. Jump on ’em now……damnit!!!
Oh fuck
This game has come to a grind.
It will never end.
Yeah, it’s got a bad feel to it. Conforto’s throw from left preserves a chance to keep it even into the 9th if Beavs can get one more out.
Comforto, Ice, Hendrix all staying focused, others as well. If’s and but’s, but what if Keyes was available….certainly no Clark, coulda been the difference. Still time to get this one. GO BEAVS!
On to the 9th, still 3-3. Conforto to lead off.
Would ya feel fine with just 1 more run?
Bases loaded and one out. Rulli GIDP. Argh
Schultz 1-2-3 11th. About 34 pitches. How long does he go?
Sacks juiced for Hendrix. One down. 12th
Hendrix with the sac fly. Peterson grounds into FC.
Schultz walks the leadoff batter.
Nice to see Dan James, in his first action, handle the throw/tag on the final out. Beavs win 4-3!
Not a good throw by Morrison but Schultz with the win. Strands a duck at 3b. 4-3 Beavs
Re: OSU basketball. All I care about is results. So you guys speculate all you want about the new coach. We haven’t had results since I’ve been a student there. Talk is cheap.
reported attendance at pud kisser park tonight was 1798 according to the box score. I’m guessing 1500 were disguised as empty seats
A little surprised that Scott threw so many pitches. But it was Civil War baseball. I hope he doesn’t have to work that hard this weekend.
Did you all see that Horton has voted the Beavs number 1 in the USA Today poll? One positive for reinstating uck baseball, that and we’ve owned them.
Agree on Scott. Surprised Eden did not get some work.
Fugly win. Both teams looked awful. Even when the beavs are playing bad, they still are in the game. I never felt like uo was ever going to break the game open.
I did like the color guy, kevin stocker. His insight was much better than eric byrnes. The small things he pointed out was the difference.
Cooks draft profile.
http://grantland.com/features/brandin-cooks-nfl-draft-oregon-state-wide-receiver/
Some insight as to why he chose OSU.
Wayne Tinkle apparently wants a shot at the Beavs job.
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/05/montanas_wayne_tinkle_hopes_to.html
Again with the names that just don’t belong with the Beavers. i can see the headlines now…..

Anybody here a Blitz reader? Machado is teasing she has new info regarding new Beav’s coach. Probably nothing more than a tease though.

Has #OregonState found their next men’s basketball coach? New information posted in The Lodge NOW https://oregonstate.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=1248&tid=172655504&mid=172655504&sid=1051&style=2 …
So by appearances, more than one coach is currently interested in the MBB job, what was the cow always spouting about no one wants to coach in Corvallis?
I thought she always talked about a good coach not just using OSU as a stepping stone. And that was about football where we have a decent coach who is invested in building a legacy here.
At this point most people are treating Howland’s interest in OSU as him looking for a way to resurrect his career. I doubt he wants to stay here long term. Though in this case we have nothing to lose. If he succeeds enough to get taken from us that probably means that OSU is now an even more desirable place for another coach, and it can’t really get much worse than it has been.
No… she rarely, if ever, conceded any coach who was good enough to use any job as a stepping stone would even consider Corvallis. Hell, she didn’t even qualify the condition that we were extreme cheapskates half the time. She only used that gem when comparing any hypothetical new coach to MR… as in, “can’t get anyone as good or better than for the same money.”
So in summation, she never argued that MR was a good coach. She just said he was better than what he was paid (which makes him a schmuck), and since we’re cheap we could never get anyone good for what we pay anyway.
Ben Howland coaches a terrible brand of basketball that is a pain to watch. I know I won’t be attending nearly as many games with him on the sideline. I sincerely hope they go and get Stoudamire; good recruiter, will work hard, will hire good assistants for X’s and O’s. Image problems be darned.
Um you just said what was said about Robinson when he was hired….
Except Howland has had success at Northern Arizona, Pitt, and UCLA.
CR had only coached Brown two years with a record of 30-28…
Sorry I was referring to the comment about Stoudemire.
yeah. Get Stoudamire. Cause the last UA assistant we got that had ZERO head coaching experience worked out so well for us.
I doubt you have seen as much Howland ball as I have being here in so cal. When Howland had Love, Westrbrook , Farmar, Collison etc. His teams were fun to watch. They got out in transition and played lights out D.
What’s cool for me is Howland actually went to my High School and we played for the same high school hoops coach. For many reasons not just the personal ties I think he would be a great get.
Howdy! This is my 1st comment here so I just wanted to givve a quick shout out andd tell you I really njoy reading yur articles.
Can you recommend anny other blogs/websites/forums that go over the same
