Over concussion protocol.
What would OSU fans do in this situation?
“Bob D is the best we can do”, if they even noticed the botched protocol. Then, if someone did notice the error (like we here at ABs) and started a petition, they would shit all over it and say you can’t enact change from a blog.
Beaver fans deserve what they get.
The whole Michigan thing is more about fans being pissed their team has declined over the past decade, when they used to be a perennial contender. Their decline has been with AD Dave Brandon at the helm, making some crappy coaching hires.
Current Beaver fans have never really tasted success over a sustained period of time, so they do think this is the best they can do. (i guess they forget about Mitch Barnhadt, prior to Bobby D)
Either way, if the kid playing for Michigan had played and Michigan were undefeated this year, nobody would give 2 shits. It’s because they’ve been having another crappy year that their fans are using this as a springboard for change.
We need Riley to play Isaac Seumalo with his scooter this week if we want to see something change. Nice guys don’t make mistakes like that though.
They need to change the saying to “nice guys finish 4th or 5th”.
Riley rarely finishes last.
Or maybe he isn’t that nice.
It’s hard to get riled about something in which I’ve lost interest.
sounds like a buncha libtard bullshit. “We’re gonna protest!!!!”
You want change? How about you just stop going and supporting Meechicken athletics?
That hurts more than some lame ass protest
Occupy Meechicken
You forgot to put the “no sailors on the lawn” sign out, you old stodger, you.

What a perfect set up for a post. Thanks Angry.
Using the George Castanza theory of doing the opposite of what you think, we headed out to the Big House for the battle for The Little Brown Jug. You are right on the money about this being an excuse to change their coach and AD. While I admire their expectations, the Michigan alums are smug beyond belief. It was a dream come true to hear them boo their team at halftime and watch them start streaming out of their stadium in the third quarter as it became obvious they had no chance to beat their long time patsy. They were manhandled on both sides of the line.
So you were really more like Jerry last Saturday. Everything comes out even Steven, one rodent wins and the other loses.
OT: a pretty good AL wildcard game going on tonight. A’s and Royals duking it out in extra innings
Pretty good? This is classic.
No kidding. Kansas Shitty just refuses to die. I don’t have a dog in this fight. But, if Oakland and SF win the wildcard games, 4 of the 8 LDS teams hail from California. Go Dodgers!!!!!
Incredible game. I look forward to watching the Royals speed vs the Angels power.
yup. KC refused to lose. 9-8 in 12 innings.
KC play well as a group and seem to like one another. A’s have been choking down the stretch. I think the Royals make for a good underdog to root for but also are playing better ball right now.
I couldn’t understand one word S. Perez just spoke…
A’s have been garbage since they traded Cespedes for Mel Lester. I wouldn’t have made that trade.
I wouldn’t have done that trade either. Lester has been good, but Oakland needed the bat more.
Lester = overrated
I might be harsh, but they got Lester to do one thing and he failed on the big stage. The A’s weren’t hitting before they traded Cespedes and his stats are pretty average, but I think it screwed with the team chemistry. They are not a hired gun type of team. Beane is going to have a hard time living this one down.
he let them down probably because he didn’t have a foreign substance in his glove. As stated, Lester = overrated
The trade was dumb. Their offense was bad with him, but he was a legit HR threat. This Oakland fan is disappointed.
no one in the Angels starting rotation scares anyone
Yer right, Angry. OSU fans have an inferiority complex, I guess from the 28 yr streak. Only real failure like CR did gets you canned. Middling results are held to be … wonderful! Boneheaded stuff like allowing that hail mary is just an excusable anomaly.
If Riley had any class, he would be embarassed by such stuff and quit. But he enjoys the free ride. I wonder if privately he laughs at it all… the weenie attitude of the fans and the AD.
I figured the A’s would be done once they went to Hammel. Classic is right hecka game good drama, great crowd. Hard to see anybody lose, but how do you not root for the Royals?
It’s nice to see some teams that have been also rans for awhile get back into the playoffs these last couple years. Royals, Pirates, Orioles to name the ones off the top of my head.
I didn’t realize Grimble is out 3 weeks, so with the time it usally takes Beavers to heal that means he’s done for the season. Isaac mgiht as well red-shirt and I’m sure Bolden is still three weeks away. It seems like Beaver injuries take longer than any other team in the P-12.
I’m not sure where to place my protest here:
http://www.livescience.com/48070-male-fetus-climate-change.html
On the one hand, I can see the man wanting to be the only man and pursue this climate change for his own perceived benefit.
On the other hand… CLIMATE CHANGE IS MURDERING BABIES!!!!!
Hoops begins practice today.
Here we go people! Let’s get this done!
For me, hoops starts about 1 year from today
Then you will miss out on the joy of infancy.
Remember these days… *sniff… corny sigh*…. There will come a day when they grow up and get attitudes and don’t want anything to do with us. Then we’ll be wishing we never wasted any of these days when we had them all to ourselves.
That will be the reality. This will be a painful year, but hopefully the foundation will be set to get us back to contention for the NCAA’s.
The foundation is already set. This is just the time we wait for the rain to stop so we can start tilting walls.
Oh… I still and have always had high expectations for our hoops program. We were once a storied program who were in the national discussion every year. This means I want our team to be mathematically relevant in the conference chase with two weeks or less left in the season, odds on top three for the Pac Tourney and a better than 8-seed in the dance every year.
Those expectations reset with every coaching change… accordingly. I know they won’t be met for a couple years… maybe. I know we need continuity and maturity rather than instant NBA talent taking us somewhere. But the foundation has been set for my expectations to be met by the greener side of the coaching fence. We have replaced a coach who just played a .500 season and went .444 in conference play and ended up in a low-tier postseason event.
Obviously we don’t tolerate that kind of performance. We have standards dammit.
And I think it’s a good thing. I think my expectations will be met sooner rather than later.
And the best part is that those expectations can end up with a real chance at winning it all since it’s not the corrupt “business” model that football follows.
Does Riley have dementia, or just an intrepid sense of denial?
From Eggers at the P-T:
iley’s view on the Trojans’ 48-yard “Hail Mary” pass from Cody Kessler to Darreus Rogers to end the first half:
“We were misaligned. We had a couple of new guys in because of injuries (to regulars). We ended up being screened out on the back line, and our front-line guys were not in great position. That play gave (the Trojans) momentum and had a lot to do with what happened the rest of the game.”
The Trojans, facing fourth-and-15 at the OSU 48, let the clock run down from 37 seconds to one second before calling timeout prior to the Hail Mary play. Riley didn’t call timeout to preserve the clock “because you run the risk of giving them more plays if they get a first down. They weren’t that far from field-goal range, for one thing. Better give them one shot than give them a chance for three or four more plays.”
When its 4th and 14? How do they get 3 or 4 more plays? You mean you expect your D to give up a 14-yard play in that situation, and for USC to use the remaining time to get 3 more plays?
“Riley recalled a comment by the coach during his playing days at Alabama, Bear Bryant.
“Coach Bryant used to say the most important parts of a game were right at the end of the first half and right at the start of the second half,” Riley said. “That was the case Saturday. ”
If you agree with Coach Bryant, then why wouldn’t you be strategically prepared to manage the clock? Did not a similar strategic failure occur before the half in the Alamo bowl?
Riley puts these failures on the players, instead of himself; if he or his staff make anti-strategic decisions, the players are expected to compensate.
Then there’s this transcript from a Pac-12 conference call in OLive:
Pac-12 football coaches call on Tuesday.
Kyle Goon, Salt Lake Tribune: How do you guys regroup and have you seen Sean (Mannion) take a leading role in getting this ship righted here?
Riley: Yeah, I think the No. 1 thing is to just to get back to coaching, teaching, trying to get the details ironed out. We’ve got to kind of balance our offense up a little bit and run the ball and throw the ball, obviously, better than we did in the last game. ”
How many times can Riley – who manages the imbalance – call for balance, and expect anyone who’s paying attention, including his players, to believe him?
I used to think he was just a slow processor, but now I question Riley’s mental health.
Hey! I don’t know why you’re bothering with this. It’s a rehash, and it will be one at least a couple more times this year… or all year.
On the flip side, our volleyball team actually won a conference match last week.
Yeah baby!
That breaks a 23 match conference skid.
Agree it’s rehash, and considered not posting it…but the refrain is becoming a form of dishonesty or at the least a lack of truthfulness; Riley is saying things that, in the context of his job, are absurd and absent of genuine meaning.
Every once in a while it galls me and I can’t believe BDC, fans, and the press, stand for it.
In the big context, does this mean much? No, and that’s probably why some writers at OLive think people like those on AB are overreacting. But Riley’s likely the highest paid employee at OSU, and again, in the context of his job responsibilities, his decisions and his words are absurd.
I don’t think you’re overreacting.
What I think is that the time to even reasonably react is past. It’s time to just ride the coaster and know the ride will end with the chains rattling and you thinking you can get out 15 seconds before they remove the lock bars. Then you can get back in line for another… or go on and do something else.
It also calls into specific relief the irony of Mike Riley’s “open-to-the-press” policy, for which the press loves him; he’ll talk to them, but he says so many things lacking in truthfulness, that the program openness has little value.
That’s kinda fair.
But I don’t think it’s lying. I just think it’s opaque dumbitudes. Nothing is being addressed. Nothing ever has been addressed. Nothing ever will be addressed.
And at Pure Orange, they call into question time management, here in the context of signalling in plays, getting to the line of scrimmage, time spent at line of scrimmage:
http://www.pure-orange.net/cgi/anyboard.cgi/bscpigskin2?cmd=get&cG=1343137353&zu=3134313735&v=2&gV=0&p=
I wish someone would press Riley and ask “How does your time management give your team a strategic advantage over your opponents?”
You’d think this would be secretly driving Garret crazy. Remember Garret allegedly had the offense working on moving more quickly, and varying its pace, in the off-season. None of which has been utilized yet this season in any meaningful way.
Nobody will ask anything pertinent.
So here’s what I propose:
Nobody ask anything at all.
That way the presser lasts 15 seconds, and we don’t have to get frustrated by gobbledygook.
Oh… and you media types can get to the free snack table faster.
*wink*
I’m not sure if you’re being serious, but this is exactly right. Reporters do not have the balls to ask real questions. But really, it doesn’t matter, because it is pointless to ask. Thinking you will get anything meaningful from a coach in a press conference is ridiculous. Judge a coach’s (and player’s) abilities by their in-game performance(s), not the stupid bullshit lipservice they give to the press afterwards.
And questioning one’s mental health (not you, but someone above) from a press conference call? Equally asinine.
I am kinda serious. I really have to wonder… what’s the point?
To be on topic for a bit, I think Hoke and Brandon screwed up big time when they tried to pass the buck over this last weekend. What was obvious to all was not obvious to the people who can’t pass the buck. But they did so anyway. What Hoke should have said in his presser was:
“Yes. I screwed up. There is a process and a system in place for which I am responsible. It doesn’t matter that communication broke down within that system. That is on me. I need to make sure this program is on board with everything I say it needs to be.”
But he didn’t. He went all bunker mentality, and his AD allowed him to do so.
Take the flip side.
Chris Petersen went to his presser and threw himself on the sword. He took full responsibility for the dumb fake punt call that cost him the game. He was quick and complete in his culpability. He will learn from it and be better for it in the future.
That is a man I would follow into the breach.
Hopefully all this passing crap isn’t just Riley’s secret mission to have one of his QB’s set the conference passing record. If it is it’s futile as Goff will be the new record holder within 2 years.
Of course it is. How else do you defend the decision to leave your starting QB and WR (Cooks) in late during a blowout victory over Cal? Why do you leave your starting QB in up 31 at Hawaii? And not just leaving them in, but continuing to throw the ball when clearly your backup QB needs experience and your OLine need to develop runblocking abilities.
There are other examples out there, the Cal one most egregious.
Mannion and his records are Riley’s last chance at a legacy. Some day, some half-assed analyst or color commentator will reference those numbers and hopefully mention Riley and his “great offensive mind.” His mind is just offensive anymore…
Ebola in Dallas, Tx. Be safe, Beavs. This could get crazy
Ahh… you saw that did you?
http://www.livescience.com/48087-ebola-first-case-diagnosed-us.html
Major news sources are just now reporting it. But they seem to be concentrating on the “scandal” of it rather than informing the public about what is really going on.
Big business needs to step aside at times like this and allow news to actually be news.
But I guess one side will say that this is Obama’s fault. And the other side will spend their time defending Obama instead of doing anything about it.
Here’s where those against health-care-for-all are just stupid btw.
If you’re in it for you and nobody else, then does the health of your neighbor matter? Does your neighbor who refuses to buy health insurance through his job come over to your house for a BBQ on gameday? Do you know where he’s been? Do you know where the friends and family he’s been in contact with have been for the last week?
Health care for all has nothing to do with someone getting Ebola… or any other health issue. It has to do with what happens after the health issue — do you get treatment or not.
A Marburg virus hit the US years ago, but didnt jump from the monkeys who had it, to the humans nearby.
Wait… pandemics have nothing to do with health care? They only have to do with treatment… which isn’t health care?
Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows….
Break it down to the common cold or the flu if you have to. Hell… break it down to the food choices the idiots in this country make every day and how I’m paying hidden taxes in food subsidies, imbalanced property taxes so their big box retailers can use my roads to ship their crappy food to their cattle pen of a store, and higher health care premiums and direct care costs because those who buy the crappy food at these cattle pens find the time to stop at the drive-thru and pick up a rubber biscuit on paste with a side of grease sticks and a bucket of bubbly sugar to wash it down.
Health care is more than just getting vaccines or medicines. It’s just seeing a doctor who can advise one on health and wellness and diet as well. When my neighbor is smarter about his health and stays away from higher risk situations, that gives me a buffer of one more person against that which is out there. And so I have a vested interest in my neighbor being buffered in such a way also since every degree of separation becomes more complex.
1 out of every 10 female students at UofO has been raped while attending the school? 10%!! That’s nuts. Those 2 basketball players must have been busy last year.
