Spent a lot of time hanging out with Pete Carroll this past year on how to become a better coach and rebound from failure. If it is Hoke I think, on balance, it’s an upgrade over Riley. Certainly far preferable than Tedford

Hoke was the hot name when Michigan hired him. A LOT of programs wanted Hoke. He turned around two awful programs and then went to Michigan. It didn’t work and some of that was never having a decent QB. However, what would be worrying about him was he got talent but did not develop a lot of the talent.
The AD at MInn tried to hire him and thank god he blew us off. He got the Mich gig because he coached there and was seen by their admin as getting the culture there. A Michigan Man

descending win total each year at Michigan looks a lot recent Rile E. I think his attractiveness to Michigan lay in the fact that he was a protégé of Lloyd Carr. His resume as an assistant is at par with Wilcox, for example; or even Frost. The fact that he coached at OSU before is also probably seen as a plus. Not being an advocate, just trying to deconstruct the proposition: why brady?

Not bad. Want Frost, Wells or Wilcox so I am down with any of them being hired. Wilcox probably also brings Peter Sirmon and Keith Heyward. Any of these 3 head coaches is capable on both the field and in recruiting which is huge. No doubt Wilcox would bring some good recruiters with him.

Football is the revenue sport, basketball and baseball break even. The other sports we just try to hire good people. And Boosters do apply pressure as to who gets hired, but not the twenty people on this blog site – people with actual income.

Are you pulling the 28 year crap? I still have a piece of astro-turf I yanked off the field in 1974 when we fans were asked to come help take up the field after the last home game. I remember what it was like before the west side went up. I remember touring the west side while it was being constructed and thinking it was nice… comparatively.
I remember one coach finally breaking the 28 year slump, not with some rolling ball, but with a group who got ditched within a couple weeks of signing day. Can’t blame the ditch digger, but I also can’t rehire someone who does that kind of thing. You gotta have standards in business, or people will just walk all over you. And Riley and his cult of personality are showing their true colors right about now. They don’t care about my alma mater. They care about their little cult.
Well… the real foundation that was set was done by DE. He got Truax and Phase One done through his own efforts. And while he was here he got the AD to commit to a timeline for Phases Two and Three. Never mind that Riley strolled into that situation and our AD coincidentally forgot to honor that pledge… and then excuse after excuse ensued.
I’ve listened to Riley for years. I thought five years ago that he finally reached the hump and just might get over it with the loss of a few assistants. But he chose to insulate them and make excuses instead. That’s a darn nice thing to do, but it is such a losing thing to do in any business. But I should have known five years ago that he was making the same excuses then he was making last year and this.
That he ditches OSU is no surprise. It’s what he did and was going to do to us again. There was a piece before the CW about Jimmy coming to practice and Riley talking about how he wanted to be that way, coming to practices when he was retired. That was instantly flagged as complete bullshit. Jimmy is OSU and Corvallis through and through. Riley got Shawn Eichorst to introduce him as someone whose “adopted hometown” was Corvallis.
But enough about Riley. We shouldn’t care anymore. He went out for smokes and isn’t coming back. He doesn’t leave any lasting legacy here, and this program is left in quite a sizable hole for the next coach to climb out of. Riley may have more wins than any other OSU coach ever. But he also coached in the best of circumstances for OSU ever. He coached when a second place team in the conference could go to a bowl game. He coached when there were 12 (or 13) games in a season, with three patsies on the schedule… well… patsies for anyone else but Riley.

Many of us think it is strange because we’ve watched almost every damn game Riley has coached. I guess I was caught off guard by how the “Rley does so much more with less” train of thought is out there on a national level, not just the local numbnuts who want easy access to an affable head coach. The national media remembers the 2 upsets of USC, but is clueless about the 2 losses to FCS teams or the dinosaur slow offense or the regression of the defense.
They don’t realize OSU football has passed the eyeball test the past 16 years with two different head coaches (Erickson’s 4 years seems to have been forgotten) it’s what the coaching staff does with that talent that should be judged.

Maybe hire Frost and have him run his triple option from his NU days. Watching G Tech last night, the offense was entertaining, and a novelty in this day and age. If they could play a lick of D they would have beaten the 2nd most talented team in the country.
The triple option seems to work pretty well even if you don’t have a ton of speed and athletes (thus the military schools run it). And as the media has constantly informed us, Corvallis is only fit for trolls and lepers with a mild case of ebola, no one else would think to set foot in it. Could be a good fit at OSU, and something different for the Pac to deal with.
Regarding Hoke..can I get “un PC” for a minute?……I don’t like fat, sloppy head coaches…..I’m no svelte, fitness buff myself, but I like in shape major college head coaches….Fulmer, Dubois, Mangino, Weiss ….they didn’t look good. I don’t care about assistants, hit the buffet at will.

If Riley had taken Frost as his OC, I could see a plan from NU.

I slept on it and I would be ok with Tedford. He’s an upgrade over Riley in every aspect minus the fact that Riley somehow found a way to beat him regularly.
I think Tedfor would be the safe hire to get us back to Pre regression riles. 9-10 wins as the ceiling occasional pac 12 champ contender
I agree. If OSU goes retread, which I think they will, Tedford is my choice. I have family in the Bay Area and they said that he didn’t get the support from the Cal administration for football. He also fought to get improved facilities, turned around a bad program (Cal hadn’t had a winning season since 1993), and developed strong QBs (Aaron Rodgers). He’s the last coach in the conference to beat Oregon 3 straight seasons and also did two things Riley never did here: win a conference title and get 2 10 win seasons.
Yeah the graduation rate sucked at Cal because he had early defectors to the NFL that didn’t come back to finish their degrees. OSU already is very successful at getting their players to graduate and have good support staff directing that part of the program. Tedford had to fight to get someone on board for that, but he didn’t shut his eyes to it. Even duck fans say he’d do well here.
If they hire Brady Hoke, I will be out, but would stick around for Tedford.

After some thought I think I have a theory on what started the whole Mike Riley move.
1. December 2013 – BDC and/or Ed Ray confront Riley. They tell him Langs has to go.
2. Riley protests but eventually concedes. Views it as pure politics. Gets Langs a gig with the NY Giants. Lands Garrett.
3. Beaver O struggles in 2014. Riley believes Garrett was a step back (maybe a significant one). In his mind, he betrays a good friend AND his performance suffers. Becomes bitter over the course of the season.
4. December 2014- BDC and/or Ed Ray confront Riley. They tell him Banker has to go.
5. Riley: I’m out. Not doing this again.

One X-factor that might help explain Riley’s reluctance to change coordinators: what sort of budget does he have to find new guys? If he’s being limited to 200K-250K or so (Garrett’s salary I believe?) there’s no way he can make a competitive PAC-12 hire. You can take a flier on someone obviously, but there’s downside there compared to the known quantity in “your guy.”

Despite the public persona, Riley obviously thought his shit didn’t stink and he was doing OSU a favor by committing long term. He was probably underpaid year to year, but with the ridiculous extensions in place it was a decent deal. It looks like BDC thought otherwise and made that known to him, he didn’t like it. He’ll last three years in the five year NU deal and retire comfortably. Scott Frost should be ready by then for the Nebraska job.
I’ve heard from a solid source that this is exactly what happened.
Add a significant amount of Riley whining about ‘Facilities are bad, I can’t recruit!’ and Bob pointing out that our facilities are better than Sacramento State and Eastern Washington, and you’ve pretty much got the entire story.

There’s no way a team pays a first time coach that much. Not even close.
I think Oregon State could offer Frost a 1.75 to 2 million deal at the high end to show it is serious about competing in the Pac-12. For a first year head coach that is pretty generous. Most likely it would have a small escalator and different incentive packages.
Perhaps something like a 1.7 million base salary to start on a 6 year deal. Each year the base goes up 400K.

Year 2. 1.74 million
Year 3. 1.78 million
Year 4. 1.82 million
Year 5. 1.86 million
Year 6. 1.9 million
Also 9+ wins earns a 400K bonus and winning the Civil War a 300K bonus. Any year Frost wins the Civil War he would be guaranteed 2+ million. The 400K bonus for 9+ wins is halved to 200K should we get 8 wins. That’s it. Simple with rewards for success.
Max payout in final year would be 2.6 million with 9+ wins and a win over the Ducks. He also could get 10% of the gate for incentive to pack the house. That is a competitive package and I think it could get Frost onboard.

Guys I like are Mendenhall (low risk/moderate-high reward), Matt Wells (high risk/high reward), Frost (high risk/high reward), Harsin (moderate risk/high reward). In theory I like Wells the best, but then when I imagine him coaching against the guys in this conference with experience he might get his ass handed to him.
We’re hearing a lot of retreads pop up lately, which makes me think we’ll get either Hoke or Tedford…both would be more refreshing than Riley, which is not me advocating them but just speaks to how stale Riley got.
Tedford would be a good safe hire. Without the academic restrictions Cal has I imagine he could recruit his ass off to Corvallis. by selling our NFL talent now in the league along with his own guys.. Suddenly you’re able to pitch Desean Jackson Aaron Rodgers Brandin Cooks and Markus Wheaton Cam Jordan ..Stephen Paea etc.. all at the same time.
He runs an uptempo version of the pro-style yet still likes to get players in space…which I think is still where we should be in order to recruit differently and present preparation challenges for the rest of the conference..
Would be a solid hire as always ESPECIALLY with the right assistants…

I think there is real value in being perceived by our own fanbase and around the country as fresh and on the rise after going through what turned into a number of stale years under Riley. We were that dinosaur program and don’t want to go there again. That’s why I think Frost, Wells or Wilcox are Oregon State’s best direction. You get that initial nice buzz for a couple years and they and the program probably would be constructively on the rise. Then in everyone’s minds we continue to move forward with a strong chance of more to look forward to as the middle years of the contract approach. Think it is wise to strike a new path and embrace it in our culture.
You want to be that program that looks like it has a bright future and is forming new trends. Go with a retread and maybe 40-50% still aren’t feeling it and it too easily seems like it can even be a slow decline from there. Better to be ahead of the curve by a year and well positioned as current and relevant for several years to come within a quick moving conference. The timing with Riley and lucking out how we did is a rare and fortunate golden opportunity to start fresh on the earlier and rising end of the program lifecycle and build into something other programs are envious of.
I like your thinking. I wish Bob D., Ed R. and hopefully Mark M. are into FRESH instead of mothballs. Hey, I’m not sold on either Rick N. or Jeff T. but I think especially Rick could bring some pizzazz on style to our system and marketing and probably help bring some frickin funding our way too.

I can’t see Harsin jumping from his alma mater after one year and he got them to the Fiesta Bowl. Absolutely, I’d take him though. Just think it’s a long shot. Not sure what his buyout is either. If there is truth to the 650K buyout for Wells, I think he is a very realistic option and BDC should be pursuing him.

I emailed Ed Ray, BDC and Massari saying I thought Frost would be a home run hire. Literally used that term because it matched my beliefs. I said I liked Wells as a close alternative option and a ‘possible triple.’ I am looking at things like the upside potential in the full dynamic of the Oregon State football program. I don’t think the retread route is what is best or healthiest for OSU after the fanbase going through extensive time with Riley. I think it is best if the program and its fans were all united in looking forward. Think we deserve and need that full rebirth.

Tedford seems almost like a Ben Howland type hire so I actually think he might be one of the front runners for BDC. Veteran that has shown he can get it done at our level.

Lots of stuff I didn’t know, also shows a cat willing to change his spots (unlike MR), a good coach (I think his problems were more people related) and wants a shot at coaching again (would likely come ‘cheap’_BDC sez hooray!)

Another thing I really like about a Scott Frost hire is I feel there is an excellent chance we would get frequent reminders that we made a much more intelligent decision for a new era of Oregon State Football then Nebraska did. They haven’t even had Riley for a week and you are seeing many in their fanbase develop the symptoms we had before and recognize issues of concern. I sense already a fair amount of buyer’s remorse.
Frost feels like he would bring alot of things Oregon State needs to get its program churning and very interesting. I would like having the Nebraska connection of knowing we unloaded Riles at the right time and to top it off got the guy most of their fanbase truly wanted. I see that playing out as their Riley symptoms getting worse and our decision to hire Frost looking better and better as time moves on.

You know, the more I look into these guys the less confident I feel about any. I haven’t watched most of these coaches enough to say who is best. I’m basing opinion on biographies and youtube videos. I mean has anyone actually watched utah state? I haven’t. Wells looks good on paper and in that video going around. But that’s not how to hire a coach. Without interviewing these guys I really have no clue.
I just know we got 500k for riley, which is amazing. And anyone should be better, in theory.
I watch them and Wells has kept the momentum going from Andersen, but when you look at who they beat in the Mountain West, it’s cringe worthy for the most part. True, they are no longer losing to San Jose St and UNLV, but long term it’s a big leap in competition. People hype the close games against Auburn and Wisconsin, but that was Andersen. Wells took his team back to Tennesse with Keeton and it wasn’t close this year.
I’m not down on Wells at all, but it’s really a big unknown. Guys like Tedford actually know the drill.
I watched Utah State’s last 4 games. Liked Wells demeanor on the sideline and thought offense and defense on the whole was pretty good. Winning 9 games with a 4th string QB who would have equalled Mannion’s wins this year at Oregon St if not maybe gotten a 6th shows he puts trust in his players and they trust him. He’s the kind of hire we have the ability to make (this year) and be seen as a program on the rise for more than a few years to come. That is good in my book. I think you could build a nice program around him. Harsin at Boise handled Utah State pretty easily but that is a very tough environment and Harsin is a very good coach who also is plenty worthy of consideration except that he seems happy at Boise and is not yet prepared for a change.
I believe though that Oregon State would get a superior offense from Frost. I also have confidence that Frost would hire a good DC and be perhaps even a better leader than Wells. Wells brings DC Todd Orlando who is a good defensive mind and also thought of as being on the rise in the coaching ranks. If we got Frost or Wells I believe OSU’s program would be headed to a healthy place and I would be excited for the future of what was in store for Oregon State. With Frost I would raise that to very excited.
Bohl has been very successful as a head coach at the lower level. They recruited a bunch of player from MN that were borderline D1 prospects and did a very good job of player development. His teams play smart, power running ball. He was Frank Solich’s DC at Nebraska and got run out of town after the 2002 season to be replaced by none other than Bo Pelini. Skill set much better suited to HC. Should have been a logical candidate at Neb., but the fan base could not forget the unbelievable beat down by Colorado to end the 2001 season. If he get the Cowboys turned upwards in the next couple years he will end up with a big job in a power 5 conference.

I loved the intensity Erickson teams had. Dumb penalties sucked but never felt like his teams just went through the motions. Now he would be a disaster. If he was 15 years younger it would be a home run.
I liked what DE was able to do here. It was an inspired hire given where he and OSU were at the time. He definitely demonstrated what can be done here is a short period of time. The nice half of the stadium is the house that DE built.
However, I hated the unsportsmanlike penalties. Some of it was cheap. I also feared getting us into trouble with the NCAA.

I hear from a source in Eugene that Frost is intrigued by the Colorado State job. He can win early and often there and unlike Corvallis, where the cupboard (on defense certainly) is bare, McElwain was a good recruiter and the team is well stocked.
Frost could be saying that to gain leverage. I wouldn’t take anything seriously yet.
Frost followed me on twitter first thing this morning. I viewed that as a good sign that he has some interest in Oregon State. I think he wants to take that step to head coach right now and I hope we are the program that capitalizes. If we give proper commitment and embrace striving for success in a bold new direction I think we have alot to offer. The Pac-12 is alot better place to be than the MWC. Frost will be able to find success against enough teams to keep getting better.

I think they are losing their QB and star RB, so a good time for their coach to jump ship.. Goph’s play them in the second game next year so there has been a lot of talk about them. I’m happy they lost their coach as they looked to be a much tougher opponent than when the series was scheduled.
Rumor out there that Braxton Miller will transfer and be eligible immediately for Oregon next season.
I like Frost. The game of football has really been revolutionized in terms of practice pace, scientific based training methods and an extra emphasis on nutrition. Chip Kelly has really been a real part of this revolution and established it as a culture at UofO. OSU needs to establish a forward thinking identity. This idea that OSU shouldn’t look to one of the best programs in the nation for ideas because they are our rivals is idiotic. If we bring in Frost we will probably have close to twice as many practice reps. That will mean less procedural penalties, more instinctive play and back ups that are more ready to contribute.
He has also played for two HOF coaches. Walsh and Osborne. Played D in the NFL and is a smart guy. Seems like a no brainer. Like it or not, ducks are a hot brand so why not take a risk and diminish them at the same time.
He might even fool some of the dumber recruits into thinking they are committing to UofO.

Hoke would not be a horrible hire. He’s a better coach to me than he showed in Michigan but I really stand him and wouldn’t want him to be the head coach cause he’s an awful person and only a decent coach.
I always liked watching Schiano’s Rutgers teams on TV. He kind of reminded me of an east coast Kyle Whittingham. His teams played hard and look where he took Rutgers football, I would think he was a big factor in getting them to the Big 10. I would not mind seeing him in Corvallis at all.
That’s what I’ve been saying. All Schiano’s assistants are now the coaching staff at EMU under PJ Fleck… who was the recruiting coordinator and WR coach at Rutgers.

I think the contrast with Pelini will play well for awhile, but Husker fans still think their program should compete for NC’s. one of the bonuses from Riley leaving is that in an odd way it give us (me, at least) a second team to “follow.” I thought the most pertinent line was that the Big 10 West is a lot easier to navigate than the Pac North. In the abstract that may be true, but consider this: if we concede for the sake of argument that Riley circa 2011-2014 was the same coach as 2001-2009 (which I don’t believe is the case) every other school in the Pac made an upgrade in coaching since his hey-day in the middle of the last decade. Looking ahead, I don’t see him as likely to routinely outcoach Anderson, Kill, Ferentz and Fitzgerald.
He better be able to do that or his ass is gone in less than three years. However delusional it may be Husker Nation expects Riley to be able to compete with Meyer and Dantonio with their National Championship mentality.

FWIW I was at a high school game Saturday and over heard a conversation with a high level current OSU player. He said while some of the players were sad St. Riley was leaving it may actually be for the best as a large segment of players had given up and tuned out our St. Riley.
Seems change might have been needed.
And No the player wasn’t Coach Cav’s son. It will be hard to see all of those false starts and line mistakes leave to Nebraska.
I can’t find the exact quotes, but there were a couple of “odd” comments from Riley through out the season that implied this was not his most coachable group of players. As common, I’m sure it’s equal parts coaches and players who share in the responsibility.

I think that game was more about what ASU didn’t do then what OSU did. If you recall ASU had rebounded from being doen 14-3 to leading 24-14 at halftime. I think by that point they figured the beavers were going to roll over and die

I’m not following real close on the sect references as I come from an evangelical background. For sure I believe in Yeshua (Jesus) as real! Birth and death and resurrection. And, that there were many prophetic references hundreds of years before his birth about the Savior (Jesus/Yeshua), if that’s what you mean. I’m award that even Muhammad made reference to Jesus in the Kuran but I believe Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life.”

I thought he was very articulate and projects well. You knew what his points were and how much he cares about developing young men. It was night and day listening to compared to Riley’s vagueness and struggles to put together coherent sentences. Liked his soldier analogy and belief in hard work and preparation. You can tell he takes great care of his body and values sound nutrition for athletes to perform their best. I believe he would represent Oregon State very well and has the most obvious upside. I know I will start my season tickets back up without hesitation if he is hired.

There are a handful of businessmen from Portland, at least 1 from Eugene that I know of, who have the ability to write a fairly large check for the right coach. The one I actually know has basically been waiting Riley out, he really, really doesn’t like the guy.

Weirdly, I’ve heard it was more Read that caused the issue. Banker, for sure to a certain extent…but the point was made loudly and repeatedly about obvious deficiencies in Read’s recruiting and coaching. (At least Banker could lure in a kid from Hawaii or whatever, Read couldn’t recruit for shit. Say what you will about Banker, he could stuff the shit out of a pro-style offense like USC.) So these donors go to Bob and ask for changes and Riley won’t even admit that Read should be replaced…the donors say…well, fuck Riley, he’ll never change.
That’s what I’ve heard. And it started in 2006. Riley was a loss away from getting fired at that point, after the WSU game. Lots of excuses, lots of finger pointing. I think Bob was still in Riley’s corner at that time (hence the ‘lifetime contract that would come later) but Bob has come around since.
I’ve always said that Bob is not as bad as some here think.
So what’s the deal with Read that MR felt he couldn’t be replaced?
He shit canned Ungerer after telling him to his face that once he was in the inner circle he was ‘part of the family.’ That lasted, what, 2 years? Then ol’ Dave was unceremoniously dumped and the Ungerers were shunned by the remaining coaching staff for the remainder of the time they spent in Corvallis.
It’s more than 2 years. There was serious grumbling early in 2006, more after the loss to BYU in 2009. The last 2 years have been really bad though, just (from what I’ve heard) the additive nature of finally seeing Mike’s bullshit for what it is.

Well, Bryan Harsin is one. I know I’ve seen his name on plenty of lists, but It’ll take much more than people think to get him here, but I believe his name is on the table. He makes 1.2 million now, I bet it takes over double that to even get him to answer the phone.
It does make sense that donors have been holding back serious donations and waiting for the right moment to use their money wisely instead of donating to eliminate a coach, but to hire one instead. This is the opportune moment to hire someone who is interested, but wants the donors behind them which Riley clearly had for awhile, but at some point, the donations either slowed or stalled and Riley kept asking for more help $$ wise but wasn’t getting it…therefore, he decided to take a job that had constant backing by donors no matter what.
I think this is solid analysis.
regrettably, I think we’re in a situation where the best we can hope for is to lure away a mid-major guy like Wells or a top coordinator like Wilcox. otherwise the recourse is tempt fate with a lower division guy like Baldwin or a re-tread.

Fisher? I doubt that. He’s done decent with the Rams this year with a QB no one has ever heard of. They are 6-7 after today and mathematically still alive for the playoffs but it looks bleak they’ll get in.

I don’t think it was bad. Just apathy had set in with a lot of people. We knew Riley was never going to get us to the Rose Bowl. His best year was an Alamo bowl loss to a mediocre Texas team that OSU had beaten for 3 quarters until Riley decided to go pass pass pass again and the DE for Texas sacked Vaz about 20 times.

One angle from the rumored meeting might be a situation where they have their guy (really feels like Frost) but maybe that guy is interested but has some conditions (budget, stadium expansion, branding, etc..)and this meeting tomorrow is about how OSU will meet those conditions.

Well, I think you can lump Del Rio, Jeff Fisher, and really any NFL personnel that has a household name into the NFW category.
We’re more likely to succeed with a hungrier lower division coach with something to prove and wants to stay and build, than say a career retread looking to cash a few checks before springboarding the job and bailing at the first opportunity.

I don’t think it sounds good in theory. OSU is a college. Hire a college coach…recruiting, the politics, donors, etc. NFL guy won’t get it. Jack Del Rio would be a terrible hire who’d likely take 3 mil to get and then start his son (not that I think LDR is bad…don’t know yet, but we want open competition).

I have and he did admirable in Jacksonville at 68-71. Jacksonville wasn’t/isn’t known for being a big spending team. Or having much fan support. Thus the rumors every year that they are the most likely team to relocate. They went 12-4 in 2005 and 11-5 in 2007 were his best years. His defense in Denver this season statistically has been pretty damn good. Much better than last years. I’m a broncos fan and watch them every Sunday. 3-1 last year as interim head coach while John Fox had heart surgery. Also has a SB ring from the Ravens as an assistant.

His best years as a HC were 7 and 9 years ago. That’s a long time in football. He has never recruited, he has never dealt with donors, fundraisers, etc. I hope you are wrong, I really do not want him.

Jim Mora Jr has worked out well for UCLA. He had no college coaching experience. I see nothing wrong with bringing in an NFL guy as long as he’s a good coach and understands he’s going to have to surround himself with assistants that know the ins and outs of recruiting. But let me ask you, if you’re bound for college wouldn’t an ex-NFL lifer and future hall of famer sitting in your living room making a pitch to come play for him move your meter? Even a little?

So far no media outlet has been able to confirm any rumors. Since there has been so much silence, I am kind of expecting the hire to be out of left field. Of all the candidates that have been mentioned, I don’t see any as a home run hire. Most seem to be decent but nothing that would immediately change how others see OSU.
It’s easier listing the people I would say are bad hires so here goes,
Matt Wells – A do more with less guy. Don’t want to see another Mike Riley type hire.
Baldwin – It would take him a bit to make the transition and other programs will pass him by while he does.
Neuheisal – Tends to leave programs in ruins.
Hoke, Long – No need to bring back guys who were here when OSU stunk.
Frost – Oregon is a machine, not sure how he’d fare outside it.
Del Rio – the only reason this would be a bad hire is because of his son.
These could be less bad hires depending on who they hire on their staff. I expect some urgency soon. BDC needs to get this person hired in the next week so they can get recruiting back and up again.

I used to be a season ticket holder. A guy like this getting hired would instantly bring me back on board as a season ticket holder.
It’s all entertainment spending to me. A retread pac 12 coach that I’ve seen fail before is a script I’ve already seen play out. (Hoke, Tedford, Neuheisal) Somebody who can bring a fresh take on things into Corvallis is what I want to see. I want to be excited to show up at Reser to see how things unfold, rather than dread the drive down there because I already know how the game will look before I get there. I want somebody who is hungry, not somebody who is looking for a job. Frost and Wells are 2 guys I could get behind. A jaded NFL failure is not somebody I want coming in. I want somebody who aspires to be an NFL coach some day, not somebody who is retreating back to college ball.
